Will HBO's WESTWORLD Characters Visit Roman World or Medieval World?

0
0

If you've seen Michael Crichton's 1973 film Westworld, on which the new HBO series is loosely based, then you know the scope of the theme parks is a little larger than what we saw in the pilot of the TV adaptation. Aside from the old west-themed Westworld, there's a Roman World and a Medieval World, and in the 1976 sequel Futureworld (which Crichton had nothing to do with), the Delos Corporation — the ones responsible for building the park — opened new areas called Spaworld and Futureworld for guests to visit. But will we see any of those in the show?

Inverse spoke with production designer Zack Grobler, who revealed that

“For the first season, we only explore the West World. There’s talk about in the future seasons, if there’s more, that there will be a different world. But we’re not sure what it will be yet.”

We know the network has big plans for the show, giving producers Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, and J.J. Abrams enough time to come up with a storyline that will play out over five seasons if the audience responds well enough to keep the show on the air. If the positive response to the pilot is any indication, people seem to be really digging the show so far, and I'm hopeful that they'll be able to explore all of this stuff in more detail in upcoming episodes and seasons. That'll be sort of weird, though, if the characters leave Westworld behind and move into Futureworld, for example, but the show is still called Westworld.

HBO has released the full pilot online, which I've embedded below, and you can read my review of the pilot right here.

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 Gets a Brief but Exciting Trailer Tease

"Mr. Wick, do enjoy your party."

The first footage from John Wick: Chapter 2 has just been released in the form of a short trailer tease. This is basically one of those trailers for a trailer thing, which I'm not a big fan of, but you know what? This is John freakin' Wick! So, hell yeah I'm excited to share it with you! The full trailer is set to premiere at NYCC on Saturday, and it will also be released online. This little tease should tide you over until then, so enjoy!

John Wick: Chapter 2 stars Keanu Reeves, Common, Ian McShane, Ruby Rose, John Leguizamo, and Laurence FishburneChad Stahelski has also returned to direct it. The film opens in theaters on February 10th, 2017.

3 Actresses Up for the Lead Female Role in Lucasfilm's HAN SOLO Film

Lucasfilm and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been meeting with actresses to take on the lead female role in the upcoming Han Solo film. According to Variety, Tessa Thompson (Selma, Creed), Naomi Scott (Power Rangers), and Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men) are on the top of the list and they recently tested for the role in London.

They are also looking at actors to take on the role of Lando Calrissian. It was previously rumored that Donald Glover was their top choice for that role, but apparently no deal has been made yet. According to the report, Disney and Lucasfilm wanted to do a second round of tests to be certain that they make the right decision.

According to inside sources, it will be a couple more weeks before a decision is made on this casting. Whoever ends up being cast, they will join Alden Ehrenreich, who will be taking on the role of Solo. He has big shoes to fill, but I think he'll be able to pull it off. From what I've seen, the guy is very talented.

As for the lead female role, Thompson and Kravitz are both solid actors. I'm not really familiar with Scott, so it's hard to tell. Whoever they end up casting in the role, I'm confident that Lucasfilm and the directors will make the best choice because they know what they want!

The Classic HE-MAN Intro Gets a Sweded Live-Action Remake

"By the power of Greyskull! I have the POWER!"

The intro to the classic 1980s cartoon series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has gotten a hilarious sweded live-action remake. It comes from CineFix, and it's pretty damn fantastic! I also included a side-by-side comparison with the original intro. If you grew up watching He-Man when you were a kid, this is sure to give you a laugh!

GEARS OF WAR Movie Is in Development at Universal Pictures

Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to Microsoft's hit video game Gears of War, and they are will be adapting it into a feature film. I'm a huge fan of the Gears of War franchise, and I'm eagerly awaiting the fourth installment, set to be released next week!

I've always thought a film based on the property would be insanely badass if it was done right. The Studio has brought on producers Scott Stuber (Ted, The Kingdom) and Dylan Clark (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) to head the film's development.

Rod Fergusson, the head of game development and The Coalition game studios, talked to Variety about teaming up with Universal to making this happen, saying:

“As a way to support the franchise the next logical step was to make the movie. We’d done comics and novels in the past but the opportunity to work with Universal to bring the movie to life was perfect.”

In case you're wondering if the film will be a direct adaptation of the game, the answer is yes and no. Fergusson understands that video games and movies are two different mediums, and they will make a movie that feels genuine to the game. He explains:

“I think you have to let the movies be the movies. They’re two different mediums, and two different audiences in some cases, and I think some video game movies in the past have failed because they tried to make a movie for gamers. If you have this great IP with a deep backstory and lots of lore that you can make interesting stories out of it’s great, but if you just go after the gaming audience then it isn’t going to be a successful movie.
“That’s one of the great things about working with Universal. We’re finding that line where we can say it has enough lore and canon that it feels genuine to the game while at the same time going beyond that and asking ‘OK what makes a great movie?'”

I'm excited to see how this film project develops and who will ultimately write, direct, and star in it. Those answers will eventually come, but in the meantime, what do you think about Universal taking on this project, and who would you like to see star in and direct it? I can't help but think that Dwayne Johnson is already on the top of their list to star.

One other thing... this movie better be rated R! Otherwise, what the hell is the point? The game is known for its insanely bloody and violent deaths!

PLANET UNKNOWN Is a Charming Sci-Fi Short Following Space Rovers on a Space Exploration

I've got a fantastically charming sci-fi animated short film called "Planet Unknown" that you've got to check out. The film was directed by Shawn Wang, and it's set at the end of the 21st century. Mankind is "facing global resource depletion," and two space rovers are "sent out to find potential inhabitable planets." This short tells the story of these robots as they explore the terrain of these planets and conduct experiments. In this short their mission takes an unexpected turn.

Wang goes to the Communication University of China, and this is his graduation film. He spent 11 months completing it and had this to say about what inspired him to make it:

"The idea started back in 2014 when Interstellar was released. I was deeply impressed by the movie and was inspired by the two robots TARS and CASE. The idea of intellectual robots exploring space developed from there.
"Other inspirations include Pixar movies like WALL-E and Toy Story, as well as CHAPPiE, NASA documentaries about Mars Rover Curiosity, and short films by individuals like Alex Roman’s The Third & The Seventh, Richard Mans’ Abiogenesis, Erik Wernquist’s Wanderers, Alf Lovvold’s Dawn of the Stuff, and so many more."

It's very well-made film, and I hope you enjoy it!

I don't know about you, but I'm excited for Underworld: Blood Wars. This has been a fun franchise to follow, and the upcoming fifth installment looks like it's going to be a blast! Screen Gems has released four character posters for the film that feature Selene (Kate Beckinsale), Thomas (Charles Dance), David (Theo James), and Marius (Tobias Menzies).

The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (James) and his father Thomas (Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.

The film was directed by Anna Foerster (Criminal Minds, Outlander), who is also known for her cinematography work on films such as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and White House Down

Underworld: Blood Wars is set to be released in theaters on January 6th, 2017. Make sure to watch the trailer for the film here

First Promo Teaser For WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES — "War Has Begun"

0
0

The first promo teaser for War For The Planet of the Apes comes in the form of a digital billboard that is currently on display in Times Square in anticipation of NYCC this coming weekend. The teaser features the formation of Andy Serkis' Caesar in snow as we hear a voiceover that includes dialogue from the previous film as he urges Jason Clarke's Malcolm to leave before the war begins.

A full trailer for the film is expected to debut at NYCC, and if that's the case, I'm sure that trailer will be released online shortly after, so make sure to stay tuned for that!

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

War For The Planet of The Apes is being directed by Matt Reeves, and it stars Woody Harrelson playing the Colonel who will be going to war with Caesar, as well as Steve Zahn, Terry Notary, and Karin Konoval. It will hit theaters on July 14, 2017.

New Set Photo from THE PUNISHER Shows the Return of a Friend

Earlier this week we learned that Marvel has started production on their Netflix series The Punisher, and there were photos of Jon Bernthal sporting a rugged new look. Some new photos from the set have surfaced, and they confirm the return of a friend to Frank Castle. If you don't want to know who it is, then don't read or look below this point.

It looks like Daredevil star Deborah Ann Woll will be reprising her role of Karen Page in The Punisher, and here we see her reunited with Frank. It's not really surprising that Page would show up in the upcoming series, after all, she formed a very tight relationship with Frank in the second season of Daredevil. It looks like Frank is going through some hard times in the photos we've seen, so it makes sense that he would need a friend to talk to.

We have no idea how big her role in the series will be, but I could see it being a decent sized role. As for Daredevil and Foggy Nelson, there's a chance that they could make an appearance as well, but that has yet to be confirmed.

First Look at Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier in LOGAN and He Looks Old and Tired

Yesterday we learned that Wolverine 3 will be called Logan, and we got a first poster for the film, along with some information regarding the plot. Now today, director James Mangold released a photo giving us our first look at Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, and as you can see, he's looking very old and tired. It's both a stunning yet depressing look at this strong character we've come to know, love, and respect since the first X-Men film was released in 2000.

With his old age, there's no doubt that Xavier will be struggling with maintaining his mental faculties throughout the story. We also learned the following details about the film:

Logan takes place in the year 2024...Old Man Logan is in full effect. Logan looks bad, and drinks a lot. For work, he drives a 2024 Chrysler 300 limo that looks modified in the front to look more futuristic. He’s sick, his powers are fading, and he heals much more slowly — and sometimes not at all.

He will be accompanied by the young mutant he is holding hands with in the poster. This mutant is rumored to be X-23, but that has yet to be confirmed. Logan will be released in theaters on March 3rd, 2017. For more information on the film, click here.

All-Female OCEAN'S 8 Set For Summer 2018 Release

The all-female cast Ocean's 8 is slated for a summer 2018 release according to Deadline. The film stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, and Sarah Paulson and will presumably be like the heist films that have preceded it.

I like the lineup for the film, although it will be weird to see Helena Bonham Carter in a heist film. I don't know why that strikes me as weird, but I'm a fan of her acting so I won't complain much more.

I'm rooting for this film! We already know the uphill battle female-led reboots have now post-Ghostbusters, so it won't be easy. My hope is not a lot of people care about Ocean's 11 enough to make a stink about this film happening.

Trailer for the New Japanese DEATH NOTE Movie Looks Intense

0
0

While the Western world is awaiting the Netflix's live-action version of Death Note, the Japanese are onto sequels and spin-off films in the series. The latest film, Death Note: Light Up The World, premieres overseas on October 29th.

The film centers around six owners of Death Notes and how they'll use them on the rest of mankind. Some owners are honorable like L, and are keeping theirs solely to remove the followers of Kira (Light Yagami) who used it to execute people as he saw fit.

Here's the first trailer for the film...

It looks leaps and bounds better than most live-action anime! That's saying a lot considering it has no basis in the source material, and it's a completely original story. Looks like something I might want to check out! What about you?

Mike Colter Reveals How Luke Cage Would Handle The Punisher If He Came to Harlem

0
0

We have yet to see Luke Cage meet The Punisher, but one day they will and they will most likely be kicking ass alongside each other. During a recent Facebook Live Q&A, Luke Cage star Mike Colter was asked how he feels Cage would react to The Punisher if he came to Harlem to kill a bunch of criminals. This was his response:

"No, I’m not gonna stop him. I don’t get blood on my hands but I won’t stop him from taking out dirtbags.

"I’d let it be. I don’t know if I have that thing in me that says I have to stop everyone from wiping out crime wherever it is… I wouldn’t care enough to stop someone else from doing it."

So Luke Cage would just let Punisher do his thing and wipe out the bad guys, which seems like something he'd do. The Punisher is said to be making an appearance in The Defenders, which is where Cage and Frank Castle are most likely to cross paths. It's going to be a lot of fun seeing these all characters interacting with each other.

How do you think the first meeting between Cage and Castle will go down when or if it happens?

Kermit Gets Frisky in Hilarious Fan Made FIFTY SHADES OF MUPPETS

I'm on the verge of tears after watching this fan-made Muppets/Fifty Shades Of Grey Mashup! Darth Blender really outdid themselves with this one! The scenes, the lip-synching, it's all perfectly in line, and somehow they managed to find what looked like a convincing sex scene between Miss Piggy and Kermit!

It'd almost be too much if it wasn't so damn hilarious. Check it out below.

BLADE RUNNER Sequel Gets An Official Title and a Behind-The-Scenes Photo

Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment have unveiled the official title for the sequel to Ridley Scott's iconic sci-fi film Blade Runner. The new movie will be called Blade Runner 2049. The studio also released a behind the scenes photo of Scott, director Denis Villeneuve, and stars Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling.

Story details are not being revealed, but the title at least lets us know how much time has passed in the movie's world since the events of the first film. The original Blade Runner came out in 1982 and was set in 2019, so thirty story years have elapsed since we last saw Rick Deckard.

What do you think of the new title? Are you excited about this movie?

Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters exactly one year from today, on October 6, 2017.

Luc Besson's Sci-Fi Film VALERIAN Gets an Epic Poster and Some New Images

0

Luc Besson's career is basically the definition of "hit-or-miss," with huge successes like The Fifth Element and Lucy on one hand, and forgettable fare like The Family and Arthur and the Invisibles on the other (and if we were to delve into his producing credits, we'd be here all day). But I'm cautiously optimistic about Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, his ambitious new sci-fi film starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as special peace operatives who travel through the universe. The visuals we've seen have been intriguing, the footage that played at San Diego Comic-Con won over the Hall H crowd, and it has a supporting cast that includes Clive Owen, Rihanna, John Goodman, Rutger Hauer, and Ethan Hawke. What's not to like?

Ahead of its panel presentation at New York Comic Con this weekend, the film has released its first poster and a few more images from the movie to get fans excited. That's a really epic poster (I love that it avoided the "floating heads" trap that tons of official movie posters fall into these days), and the images continue to make me curious about just how bonkers Besson plans to get with this one. Valerian hits theaters on July 21, 2017.

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.
Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time, uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

Throwback: O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU Soundtrack Performed at 2002 Grammys

I don't think I've ever met someone who didn't like the movie O Brother Where Art Thou. The movie is trending today on Reddit when a video of the 2002 Grammys made its way to r/videos. During the ceremony, all the original artists in the soundtrack took to the stage to perform three songs from the Grammy-winning album.

It must've been awesome to have been there and heard this live! I love the soundtrack to the film almost as much as I love the movie! Check out the performances below.

Bonkers Trailer For John Krasinski's New Adult Swim Show DREAM CORP LLC

0
0

Imagine a mix of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Dreamscape, drop in a dash of A Scanner Darkly, and then run it through the blender of insanity that is Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, and the result will probably be pretty damn close to Dream Corp LLC, a new show that hails from executive producers John Krasinski and Stephen Merchant (Hello Ladies, British version of The Office).

The show is set in a “neglected dream therapy facility” where “a rotating cast of desperate patients have their dreams recorded and analyzed” by a kooky professor played by Jon Gries (Napoleon Dynamite’s Uncle Rico), and as you can probably guess from that premise and the network's history of airing bizarre things, this show is going to be straight up trippy. Check out the first trailer below, and if that does it for you, set your DVRs for the premiere on October 23, 2016.
