Watch: Tom Hanks Crashed This Couple's Central Park Wedding Photos

It is physically possible to dislike Tom Hanks? I can't imagine what it would be like to despise the Oscar-winning actor, because for years he's presented himself as one of the nicest human beings on the planet. I understand that he's a great actor and the cynical among you may think he's just putting on a show for people with his public nice guy persona, but he's been so consistent at it that either he's like that fishbowl guy in The Prestige who commits so fully that no one would ever be able to tell, or — the more likely option — Hanks really is just a good dude.

Case in point: it looks like he was jogging in Central Park when he happened across a young couple getting wedding pictures taken. He could have turned around or run right past them, but he knew that stopping and saying hi would make their day, so he took a few pictures, wished them well, and got out of there. It's the little things, you know? Check out the video and some photos below (via LaughingSquid):

Yesterday's wedding was so beautiful! Elisabeth and Ryan you planned one amazing celebration. The icing on the cake was @tomhanks stopping in Central Park to wish them congratulations. #megmillerphotography #newyork #nyc #nyminute #celebrity #brideandgroom #tomhanks #weddingdress #wedding #weddingday #blacktie #centralpark #blackandwhite #huffpostido #stylemepretty #weddinginspiration #selfie #celebritysighting

Hot on the heels of the new photos and character posters from this morning, Marvel Studios has released a brand new look at their upcoming film Doctor Strange. This short trailer concentrates heavily on the distinct visuals we'll see in this movie, references The Avengers, and touches a little on the type of humor we can expect as well. I know it's quick, but this may be my favorite look at this project that we've seen yet. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Doctor Stephen Strange, and you can check out his sick watch collection in the trailer below.

In addition, Disney and Marvel announced that they'll be showing off 15 minutes of the film in select IMAX theaters across the country very soon. You can read all of the details in the full press release below.

Marvel Studios announces Marvel Studios’ Expand Your Mind: An IMAX® 3D Exclusive First Look, featuring approximately 15 minutes of exclusive footage from the highly anticipated, action-packed “Doctor Strange.” The sneak peek will be showcased in over 115 theater locations across North America on October 10, 2016, at 7p.m.
Select IMAX 3D theaters nationwide and 3D & IMAX 3D theaters internationally will offer the special screening of thrilling, never-before-seen 3D footage of the Scott Derrickson-directed movie, which opens in U.S. theaters on November 4, 2016.
Commenting on the exclusive footage, director Scott Derrickson says, “As a movie fan, I am thrilled to take audiences along on the visual journey of ‘Doctor Strange’ and give them an early peek at what we’ve been working on.  The completed film will feature more than an hour of specially formatted IMAX sequences that will provide audiences with a totally immersive—and mind-blowing—film-going experience and I’m excited to share a taste of that with our fans on 10/10.”
Tickets to the October 10th Marvel Studios Expand Your Mind: An IMAX® 3D Exclusive First Look are free and will be distributed for U.S. and Canadian screenings on a first-come, first-serve basis starting today at noon/PDT. For more information and to download tickets, go to: http://www.seeitfirst.net/pin/131383

From Marvel Studios comes “Doctor Strange,” the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place—a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long Strange—armed with newly acquired magical powers—is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.
“Doctor Strange” stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt and Scott Adkins, with Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. Scott Derrickson is directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Charles Newirth and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. Jon Spaihts and Scott Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill wrote the screenplay. Join Strange on his dangerous, mystifying and totally mind-bending journey when Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange” opens in U.S. theaters on November 4, 2016.

Are These The Best Movie Character Departures of All Time?

$

0

For me, Cinefix consistently has some of the best video essays online today. They're often well-written and researched, and the narrator speaks in a clear, normal voice that doesn't have any annoying tics or distracting gimmicks. They really seem to like what they're doing, and they're good at it.

One of their recent videos counts down their idea of the best movie character departures of all time, but they preface it with some nice context about how movies are often meant to help audiences cope with death, loss, and grief. It's another solid effort from the Cinefix team, and it provides some good discussion fodder: are there any movies they left off the list that you think belong up there with the great character exits ever?

Viola Davis Joins Steve McQueen's Heist Film WIDOWS

$

0

Last year, I wrote about how Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave, Shame) was finally going to direct another movie, and it sounds like a really cool project. It's called Widows, and it's based on McQueen's British TV miniseries. Here's the synopsis:

Dolly Rawlins, Linda Perelli and Shirley Miller have one thing in common - their husbands are all members of the same gang. After a terrible accident when their husbands are killed attempting to hold up a security van, for each of the women it is time to stop, take stock and start life afresh. When Dolly finds the plans for the robbery and with the women facing life alone, suppose they were to finish what their husbands started and carry out the robbery themselves?

That sounds awesome to me, and last year we found out that Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn was co-writing the script with McQueen and that they'd added a fourth widow to the mix. Now we know who will be playing one of the leading ladies. Variety reports that Viola Davis (who just showed up in the trailer for Fences earlier today) will play one of the main roles, and they also mention that Jennifer Lawrence was offered one of the parts but had to pass due to scheduling conflicts. But having someone as talented as Davis leading this movie will be just fine, and hopefully will attract even more great talent for the other three major roles. I also sort of hope they can track down some A-list male talent to play the husbands just for a scene or two before they bite the bullet, similar to what Adam McKay did with Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson in The Other Guys.

Hayley Atwell Is Begging for AGENT CARTER to Continue as a Movie or TV Special

I'm sure that by now some Agent Carter fans have given up on seeing a third season of the series on ABC or any other network. One person who hasn't given up hope is Hayley Atwell, who plays Carter.

Apparently, ABC wasn't ready to let go of the series when it ended. They were very optimistic that things would work out for it. A lot of people think that the reason the show ended was because Atwell took on the lead role in the series Conviction. That's not the case at all, though. According to the actress, ABC had plans to move forward with both series if Conviction got picked up. During an interview with Comic Book Resources, Atwell explained:

"So when this pilot came about, ABC said, 'Well, this is not where we’re cancelling Agent Carter. This is a great new project. We really want you in the center of it. We want to see if it’s going to go.' And then, there were talks of, 'Do we do an Agent Carter special? Does [Conviction] not get picked up, and Agent Carter does? Does the opposite happen? Does neither of them happen? Will I be completely, like, jobless come summer?' All of that was a possibility, and you can only really focus on what’s right in front of you."

But, the show ended up getting cancelled, which is news that Atwell and the show's fans took hard. The actress isn't giving up hope, though. She would love to continue it, and she is still pretty much begging Marvel and ABC to bring it back in some form. She went on to say:

"I think they would have figured something out in terms of making a special, or waiting until we finish this season, and then we do something else with another network, perhaps. All I’m saying with that is, it’s still a much-loved show for the people involved in the making of it, and we know that the fans, it has a special place in their hearts. I would be very happy to go back to her if she became available.
"... I would love it to be. I hound [Marvel Studios co-president Louis] D’Esposito on a regular basis, saying, 'Give me a movie! I think the great thing about Peggy is, we know from Winter Soldier that she lives a long life, so she can come back. I’m banking on, when I’m in my fifties, I’m like, 'This is the time. Let’s see what Peggy’s up to in this decade.'”

It may not happen anytime soon, but one day it could happen, and it could focus on a different point in her life. I'm still holding on to hope. It's a crime that the series was cancelled to begin with.

Hot Toys Reveals Their Badass DAREDEVIL Action Figure

Fans absolutely love what Marvel has done with their Netflix series Daredevil, and I'm sure you're going to like what Hot Toys has done with their action figure of the character. They completely nail the look and that awesome costume that Matt Murdock wears to fight crime in Hell's Kitchen. I wish I could keep up with all these Hot Toys Marvel figures but collecting them is a crazy expensive hobby.

Marvel's Daredevil, the first of a wave of planned Netflix shows based on Marvel Comics characters, has raised the bar high for superhero adaptations on television.
The dark, gritty drama has been a triumph with audiences and critics alike, thanks in no small part to its more down-to-earth portrayal of its protagonist, Matt Murdock, a blind man who fights crime as a lawyer by day and a masked vigilante by night. Armed with little more than his heightened senses and superb martial arts skills, the Man Without Fear is as vulnerable as he is awesome in his daring endeavors to uphold justice in the notorious Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City.
After two successful seasons, the acclaimed series is hailed as one of the very best on TV today, and fans will surely be filled with excitement now that Hot Toys is creating the 1/6th scale collectible figure for Daredevil!
The screen-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil in Season 2. It features a newly developed head sculpt with 2 interchangeable facial expressions, a meticulously tailored Daredevil suit, the Billy Club in extended and nunchaku modes, and a specially designed figure stand with character backdrop.

Kevin Feige Discusses The Infinity Stones in DOCTOR STRANGE

$
0
0

A lot has been said about the upcoming Doctor Strange movie. Of course, the full range of emotions is currently being displayed on the internet. I read that it is going to be the next Matrix — like that is a bad thing. If I remember correctly, The Matrix was every fanboy's wet dream at the time, so why is this comparison a bad thing? The other side of the coin can’t wait for the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I am on the “I can’t wait!” side of things. I think the world that director Scott Derrickson has created is beautiful and fits right in with the rest of the MCU. With that being said, the question remains, how will this movie fit into the mix with the current direction the MCU is going? Where in the MCU timeline will this movie take place?

We first heard the name Stephen Strange when it was dropped by Jasper Sitwell while he was being interrogated by Captain America and Falcon in The Winter Soldier. Was Strange already in training at that time? The only person that can answer that one is the head honcho over at Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige. Luckily for all of us, Comicbook.com took a trip to the set of Doctor Strange last winter, and they came back with some rather useful nuggets of information.

Here is what Feige had to say about the conversation on the roof regarding Strange:

"He is very well-known as a surgeon. He has got various awards and plaques you're going to see over there; he attends various galas, might be driving at one point in this movie. He has name recognition and a talent and certain Hydra computers identified him as somebody that could cause trouble for their agendas."

So, at the time of The Winter Soldier, Strange wasn’t an immediate threat to Hydra but a person of interest, meaning that their drone strike on Strange would have been a justified one from a bad guy's standpoint, because a mere two years later we will see Doctor Strange become one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe.

Speaking of the MCU, there has been a pretty solid thread weaving through the movies, and that is Thanos and his quest to collect the Infinity Stones. The Stones have popped up in many of the MCU movies in some shape or form. With that being said, are we going to see any hint of them in Doctor Strange? This question was also answered at the interview on the Doctor Strange set with Feige:

"If you're tracking such things, perhaps, but we don't get into it in this movie."

When pressed for more info, he said:

"It's close; you can look at for as long as you want. Again, there's a lot to take in this movie, there's a lot of new concepts, there's a lot of new characters, there's a lot of new mythologies that we didn't want to clutter up by talking about other [mcguffins]."

It sounds like we won’t be seeing them, but you never know, he might be using trickery on us.

I am anxiously awaiting the release of this film in November. Are you?

Exciting Full Trailer for FANTASTIC BEASTS Brings on the Magical Creatures

Warner Bros. has released a new full trailer for director David Yates' Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them. It features a ton of wonderful new footage showing off the wizarding world in the U.S. and even shows off a lot more magical creatures.

I love the Harry Potter franchise, and I'm so excited to see the history of the universe explored in this new trilogy of Fantastic Beasts films. It's exciting, and this movie looks freakin' incredible! I can't wait to finally get to see it!

The story opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

The movie was written by J.K. Rowling and stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Jenn Murray, Jon Voight, Carmen Ejogo, Gemma Chan, and Faith Wood-Blagrove.

Warner Bros. Pictures has Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them set for a worldwide release in 3D and IMAX on November 18, 2016.

FX Renews THE STRAIN for Fourth and Final Season

FX has announced that they've renewed Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and Chuck Hogan's The Strain for its fourth and final season. That final season will air in the summer of 2017.

The show is based on the trilogy of books by Del Toro and Hogan, and the plan from the very beginning was for the show to run three seasons. Each season would focus on one of the books. Then there was talk of a possible five season run. Looks like they met in the middle with four, which is perfect.

In regards to the announcement, Cuse had this to say in a statement:

“It is a true joy to work at FX where creative intentions always comes first. Our original plan was for the series to last three years. Once we began telling that story it expanded to be more. After finishing the writing on season three, Guillermo, Chuck and I looked at our remaining story and felt the best version could be told in one more season. We have a fantastic plan for an exciting and climatic season four. We are deeply grateful to FX for supporting our vision and for allowing us to end the show on our own timetable.”

This is a fantastic horror series, and if you're not watching it, you should definitely check it out, especially if you're into vampires. I'm excited to see how the series comes to a close. With the team of talent they've had working on it, I'm sure they'll finish off strong!

First Look at Tom Felton in THE FLASH Season 3 and Details on His Character

Two new photos from The Flash season three have been released, and they offer us our first look at the character that Harry Potter star Tom Felton plays. The photos come from EW, who also reveals that he is playing CSI tech Julian Dorn and gives us some new information about him.

It's explained that Dorn is "a direct result of Flashpoint," and executive producer Todd Helbing says:

"Barry’s had that lab to himself, but now he’s got to share it with this guy, who doesn’t really like him and is kind of prickly."

It's also said that there's going to be a lot of humor made at the expense of the character. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says:

“Tom Felton is portraying a character on our show — he’s not portraying Tom Felton. Cisco will continue to make pop culture references. We’re, generally speaking, not afraid to have a little bit of a meta-moment.”

Fenton even hopes that he will get to make a Harry Potter joke in the new season and tells the outlet:

“I’m so excited for the references. I don’t doubt the talent and creativity of the writers. I’ve got a feeling they’ll come up with some real good ones. I hadn’t thought about me saying it — I assumed it would come at me from Cisco — but maybe I should give it to Cisco. Maybe he should misquote something and I could correct him.”

The Flash season three seems like it's going to be a lot of fun. It's pretty cool that Felton landed this role, and I'm looking forward to seeing how his character affects the series. The show is set to premiere on October 4th.

New Honest Trailer Tears into Duncan Jones' WARCRAFT

I know Warcraft didn't do very well here in the U.S. and that a lot of critics bashed it, but I personally really enjoyed the movie. I honestly don't know how it could've been any better because it was exactly what it needed to be. Most people I've talked to who are hardcore fans of the game thought the movie was great as well, but that's a limited audience to cater to.

Screen Junkies released a new episode of Honest Trailers, and it completely tears into the fantasy adventure film. It's definitely an amusing look at the movie that both haters and fans of the film are sure to enjoy.

Jon Favreau to Direct a Feature Film Reimagining of Disney's THE LION KING

Disney has officially announced that Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau is set to direct a new adaptation of their classic animated film The Lion King. I can't really say this is going to be a live-action adaptation because it's going to be a life-like CG animated film. The director did incredible things with The Jungle book in bringing those characters to life, and now he is being tasked with doing the same thing for The Lion King

I absolutely loved The Jungle Book, and there's no doubt in my mind that Favreau is going to bring fans another incredible Disney film. I'm actually really pumped up about this because I know we're going to see some incredible things come from it.

The film will basically tell the same story from the original movie, and it will also include the original music and songs. Disney had this to say in their press announcement

The Lion King builds on Disney’s success of reimagining its classics for a contemporary audience with films like MaleficentCinderella, and The Jungle Book. The upcoming Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson as Belle, is already one of the most anticipated movies of 2017. Like Beauty and the BeastThe Lion King will include songs from the animated film. Disney and Favreau are also in development on a sequel to The Jungle Book. No release date has been announced for either film.
The Lion King (1994) is one of the biggest animated films of all time with a lifetime global box office gross of $968.8 million, including $422.8 million domestically. It won Academy Awards for the original song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (Elton John, Tim Rice) and original score (Hans Zimmer), plus two Grammy Awards, with the soundtrack selling over 14 million copies. In 1997, the stage production The Lion King made its Broadway debut, winning six Tony Awards; 19 years later, it remains one of Broadway’s biggest hits alongside several other productions running around the world, including London, Hamburg, Tokyo, Madrid, Mexico City, Shanghai, and North America. Translated into eight different languages, its 23 global productions have been seen by more than 85 million people across every continent except Antarctica. The Lion King’s worldwide gross exceeds that of any film, Broadway show or other entertainment title in box office history.

Are you excited about Jon Favreau taking on The Lion King? The filmmaker is also attached to direct The Jungle Book 2.

I don't know if you remember or not, but at the end of John Wick, Keanu Reeves got a new pit bull puppy to replace the dog that was killed at the beginning of the film. The killing of his dog made something in John snap and set him off on a mission of revenge. Well, that puppy is all grown up and featured in a new photo that was released for John Wick 2.

The image features John and his dog taking a stroll on the Brooklyn Bridge. I don't know what will set John off in this second chapter, but let's his new dog survives the ordeal.

John Wick: Chapter 2 will have a special panel at New York Comic Con, which takes place on Saturday, October 8th. Fans attending the hour-long panel will be treated to Q&A with the cast and producers of the film and exclusive, never-before-seen footage. If you aren't able to attend the con, you'll be able to watch the panel live on Twitch.

John Wick: Chapter 2 is being directed by Chad Stahelski and opens in theaters on February 10th, 2017.

All of this stuff ended up on the abouttomholland Twitter feed, which you can check out below. It looks like Holland is having a blast making this movie!

The film is being directed by Jon Watts and also stars Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr, Donald Glover, Bokeem Woodbine, and Zendaya. Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into theaters on July 7th, 2017.

Warner Brothers Developing Live Action JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE Film

Anime fans, hold on to your hats: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is getting a legitimate live-action film! Variety reports that Japanese studio Toho has teamed up with Warner Bros. to make a live-action adaptation of the popular manga and anime series. The film will focus on the "Diamond Is Unbreakable" storyline with an older Jotaro and Josuke.

If you've never seen the series, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is about a family born with the ability to combat evil dating all the way back to the rivalry of Jonathan JoStar and his adopted brother Dio Brando.

To make a long story short, both brothers battle to the death, and Dio finds this weird mask that makes him immortal. Thus begins a long sequence of events that spans several generations across the JoStar family.

The last time I watched the show Jotaro was a teen, and in this film he will be an older man. I can't vouch personally for this half of the series, but I do like the Rock references the show constantly makes and the way the story progresses.

No word as to whether this film will see an American theater release. I would assume no, but we all know what assuming does.

One thing I do know is that the ending credits better have YES.

Video: Here's How Elon Musk Plans to Colonize Mars

There's a consensus in the scientific community that if we as a planet don't come together and enforce some major behavioral changes, Earth will eventually become uninhabitable. I was just talking with a friend the other day about how I wish colonization of other planets was closer to a reality, and along comes Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk with a plan to colonize Mars.

Here's a video showing a brief simulation of how he'd get us to the planet:

And below, you can watch a two hour presentation that goes into much more detail. I really hope that this becomes a reality, and thankfully, with people like Musk trying to push the envelope, it seems more possible than ever before. I realize this is still an early plan, but it's never going to happen unless we try, and with NASA being severely underfunded, I like this as a possible first step forward.
