Kurt Russell Cast in Cannibal Western Thriller BONE TOMAHAWK

Kurt Russell, Peter Sarsgaard (Green Lantern), Richard Jenkins (The Cabin in the Woods) and Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter) are all set to star in a new cannibalistic western thriller called Bone Tomahawk!

According to Variety the movie will be brutally violent and character-driven. The story "follows a sheriff (Russell), a gunslinger, a befuddled oldster (Jenkins) and a cowboy (Sarsgaard) as they attempt to rescue a group of captives (including Carpenter) from a band of cannibalistic troglodytes."

Screenwriter S. Craig Zahler (The Brigands of Rattleborge) will direct the horror-western for Caliber Media from a script that he also wrote. This will be the first time Zahler has directed a movie, and it sounds like a great and fun project! I love the concept, and I can't wait to see how it turns out. It definitely has a great cast. What do you think about the story?

You Won't Find A Better Star Trek Commercial Than This

I know I'm late to the game as this video is over a year old, but I can't stop laughing now that I've seen it. This is probably the best parody use of a local commercial I've ever seen, and the subtle Star Trek references really set it off. Who wouldn't buy a mattress from this guy...well other than Star Wars diehards.

The movie arrives in theaters on December 25th! I'll see you there! Will you be seeing this movie on Christmas Day?

Here's the synopsis:

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, "Django Unchained" stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...

Benedict Cumberbatch Teams With Sherlock Director for Beatles Manager Biopic

$

Somebody tell Benedict Cumberbatch that all he needs is love.

According to THR, the Sherlock star and up-and-coming actor is set to play Beatles manager Brian Epstein in a biopic about his life. Todd Graff wrote the script, which THR describes as follows:

Sometimes called the 'fifth Beatle,' Epstein signed the band in 1961 -- before Beatlemania hit -- and died in 1967 from an accidental drug overdose. He was a closet homosexual and suffered from gambling and drug addictions -- and was many times the glue that held the band together. The producers describe the project as the story of “the man who threw the biggest party of the 1960s but ultimately forgot to invite himself.

Tom Hanks is getting back in the music game after writing, starring in, and directing That Thing You Do! by producing this film, which is currently untitled, and the project will reunite Cumberbatch with his Sherlock director Paul McGuigan (who also helmed the underrated Lucky Number Slevin), as McGuigan will be seated in the director's chair here.

But as is true of most projects in Hollywood, another rival project dealing with the same subject matter is in development elsewhere. That project, reportedly called The Fifth Beatle, has secured rights to The Beatles' library of songs, something this untitled film does not have access to...yet. But perhaps they won't need that music, as the project is supposed to center around Epstein and not the Fab Four anyway. With McGuigan and Cumberbatch on board here, this one is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Here's a piece of promo art for the horror-thriller Woman in Black: Angel of DeathTom Harper (The Borrowers) is directing the sequel to the Daniel Radcliffe Hammer horror film The Woman in Black.

The story takes place four decades after the events of the first film, and is set during World War II with the arrival of a group of evacuee children at Eel Marsh House. Here's the synopsis that was released:

Vince Vaughn to Star in Action Thriller TRIPLE TIME

$

Vince Vaughn is teaming up with director Peter Billingsley (A Christmas Story, Couples Retreat) to make a new action thriller called Triple Time. Billingsley co-wrote the script with Michael J. Wilson.

According to Variety the story follows "a broke U.S. Marshall (Vaughn) who's tasked with escorting a prisoner accused of an environmental disaster to Washington D.C. When their transport plane explodes, the unlikely pair must work together to figure out who is behind the conspiracy, which might include one of them."

Apparently, the reason Vaughn took the role is because he's looking to start doing movies outside of comedy, which he's best known for. His dramatic roles in the past have always kind of fell flat. The last movie we saw Vaughn in was The Watch, and he also stars in a couple other upcoming films -- The Internship and The Delivery Man.

I think it's great that Vaughn is trying something new, hopefully it turns out better than some of his past non-comedic work. Do you think this will be a good project for him to take on?

Mark Hamill's Thoughts on the STAR WARS Disney News

$
0
0

Are you wondering what Mark Hamill thinks about all this Star Wars and Disney craziness? Well, he was just as shocked as the rest of us! But he already knew about the new trilogy. Here's what he had to say in a recent interview with EW,

Oh my gosh, what a shock that was! I had no idea that George was going to sell to Disney until I read it online like everybody else. He did tell us last summer about wanting to go on and do [EpisodesVII, VIII, and IX, and that [newly appointed Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy would be doing them. He seems to be in a really good place. He’s really happy. And that’s nice because I know that when we were making the movies, he was not a jolly guy on set. [Laughs] I always felt badly for him because he agonizes over details, and I’m sure after imagining it in his head for so many years, to see it realized — he’d look up and just hang his head and groan. Harrison [Ford], Carrie [Fisher], and I were always trying to cheer him up and joke him out of his doom and gloom. I missed his call yesterday, but I spoke to him maybe three weeks ago. But until we know more, it’s hard to make any comment other than congratulations to George.

When asked about meeting with Lucas last summer when he learned of the new trilogy, he talked about what he knew, and doesn't think he'll have any involvement with it saying,

Yeah, last August, he asked Carrie and I to have lunch with him and we did. I thought he was going to talk about either his retirement or the Star Wars TV series that I’ve heard about — which I don’t think we were going to be involved in anyway, because that takes place between the prequels and the ones we were in and, if Luke were in them, he’d be anywhere from a toddler to a teenager so they’d get an age-appropriate actor — or the 3-D releases. So when he said, 'We decided we’re going to do Episodes VIIVIII, and IX,' I was just gobsmacked. 'What? Are you nuts?!' [Laughs] I can see both sides of it. Because in a way, there was a beginning, a middle, and an end and we all lived happily ever after and that’s the way it should be — and it’s great that people have fond memories, if they do have fond memories. But on the other hand, there’s this ravenous desire on the part of the true believers to have more and more and more material. It’s one of those things: people either just don’t care for it or are passionate about it. I guess that defines what cult movies are all about. We’ll see. I’m anxious to know what’s going on, but the main story [yesterday] was the sale to Disney. I have mixed feelings about that, but they haven’t done badly by Marvel and the Muppets and Pixar. It’s one of those big decisions that at first seems unusual but then the more you look at it, the more it makes sense.

He doesn't really know any other details beyond that, just that Lucas was looking for writers, and that he would not be directing them. Hamill said he wanted them to know before anyone else.

I've noticed a lot of people still aren't on board with the merger, which is surprising to me. As you know, from the very beginning, I thought it was amazing. Now that you've had a little time to let it sink in, how are you feeling about Disney making new Star Wars movies?

EVIL DEAD's Necronomicon Revealed - He'll Suck Your Soul Dry

"Necronomicon Ex Mortis: Don't Say It. Don't Write It. Don't Hear It. Don't Share It."

Let's face it though, if any of us found a book like this we'd all say it, write it, hear it or share it! That's just the kind of world we live in now. A warning like that comes off more as a dare than anything. The Facebook fan page for the film also says, "He will rise from hell and feast on your flesh." To that I'd say... "Oh yeah? Well lets see it!"

I was really happy to see everyone's reaction to the red-band trailer that was released. A lot of people weren't expecting that kind of madness, but for the most part there was more positive than negative feedback which is cool. I was hoping that would be the case.

The movie was directed by Fede Alverez and produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, both of which have nothing but good things to say about the insane looking horror film. It stars Jane LevyShiloh FernandezLou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore.

In the remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Evil Dead hits theaters on April 12th! What would you do if you came across a book like this?

Christoph Waltz to Star in THE MUPPETS Sequel

Christoph Waltz is currently in talks to join the cast of Disney's sequel to The Muppets. If he ends up being cast he will play an Interpol agent.

The movie is being written by James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller, who worked on the first movie with Jason Segel who is not coming back for the sequel. Bobin will be back to direct it though as well.

The studio is looking to release the film sometime next year. I liked the first movie, and hopefully they can make an equally as entertaining sequel.

Waltz will next be seen in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. He's such a fun actor to watch, and it definitely seems like he'll fit just fine in the Muppet universe.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY Films to Be Directed Francis Lawrence

Looks like Francis Lawrence will go straight from directing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to directing The Hungry Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2. The two films are currently being written by Danny Strong. This news comes from Collider, who notes that Lawrence is willing and ready to move forward with the tight production schedule that seemed to scare Gary Ross away.

This was my least favorite book of the series, so it's hard to be excited about the fact that it's being split into two movies. Are you looking forward to the films?

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, is set to be released November 21st, 2014 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, on November 20th, 2015.

Here's the description of the book that the third and fourth films will be based off of:

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she’s made it out of the bloody arena alive, she’s still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what’s worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss’s family, not her friends, not the people of District 12.

Elijah Wood to Star in Monster Kid Horror Film COOTIES

Elijah Wood is set to star in and produce a new horror film called Cooties that sounds pretty crazy! It comes from Leigh Whannell, the co-creator of Saw and Insidious, and Paranormal Activity Producer Steven Schneider.

Cooties was also co-written by Ian Brennan, writer and co-creator of Fox’s Glee, and it will be directed by Ace Norton. According to STYD "the film begins when a mysterious virus hits an isolated elementary school, transforming the pre-adolescent children into a feral swarm of mindless savages.  An unlikely hero must lead a motley band of teachers in the fight of their lives against the monstrous pupils." Whannell had this to say in a statement,

My friend Ian Brennan and I wanted to write a film about one of life’s most universal experiences – hatred for precocious, adorable children. And so we started work on Cooties, a film about a virus that turns school children into monsters and therefore makes it okay to beat them up with hockey sticks.

Wood is producing the film under his horror film production company, The Woodshed. They recently announced a couple of other film projects as well; Toad Road and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night

The movie will start production in April of 2013. What do you think of the concept behind this movie about a group of monsterous killer kids?

Here's our first new trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation since they moved the released date so they could convert it to 3D and do some reshoots. The trailer contains some cool new action-packed footage that I don't remember seeing before, and it's sparked a little bit of excitement in me again.

The movie is set to be released on March 29th, 2013, and I hope to hell that it's good! This whole delay thing really turned me off and got me worried. Watch the trailer and let us know what you think!

RIDDICK Lands an R-Rating

$

0

Vin Diesel's Riddick officially got an R-rating from the MPAA. This isn't really that surprising as Universal Pictures gave the movie the green light knowing that it would be rated R.

The movie was written and directed by David Twohy, and it got the R-rating for "strong violence, language and some sexual content/nudity."

The movie also stars Karl Urban, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson. But, as of right now, the movie still doesn't have a release date.

The R rating is something that the fans wanted, now that we got it, what do you all think?

Here's the previously released Synopsis:

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof's 1952 is Not STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

$
0
0

Let the speculation begin! There's a theory going around on the internet that the secret movie Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof are working on, 1952, is actually Star Wars: Episode VII. I first saw this theory over at AICN but it was Portland Mercury that gives us a solid breakdown to think about, and here it is...

May, 2011: Bob Iger and George Lucas begin discussing the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney.

June, 2011: Damon Lindelof hired by Disney (for a 7 figure deal) to write a huge sci-fi epic for the studio. The project is named 1952, and nothing else is known about it.

August, 2011: Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are told by George Lucas at a Star Wars convention that the sequel trilogy is coming.

May, 2012: Brad Bird is hired to direct the Lindelof 1952 project, and brings on Jeff Jensen, author of Eisner Award-winning graphic novel Green River Killer to further develop the script, which is intended to become a huge tentpole film, with all the merchandising, toy selling and sequel opportunities such a prospect provides.

June, 2012: Kathleen Kennedy is named co-chair of Lucasfilm, a move that surprised quite a few people in Hollywood as they didn’t know why she’d vacate her position as a prime Hollywood mover/shaker to join a studio that was essentially, shapeless and aimless.

October, 2012: Disney and Lucasfilm close the deal, and immediately announce Star Wars, Episode VII for release in 2015, with Lucas as a “creative consultant” and Kennedy as the President of Lucasfilm. Kennedy specifically notes that they’ve been talking to “a couple of writers” and they know where they want to go for the seventh movie.

The timeline certainly seems to match up. After I saw this I contacted someone I know that works at Disney that might know a little bit about this, and he laughed and told me it was not true. So there ya go, rumor debunked.

A Star Wars movie doesn't match the previously reported description of 1952 anyway. The story will be set in the present day, and it centers around aliens making contact with Earth. The report went on to say that "Bird and Lindelof want to recapture the spirit of 1977’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind, right down to centering it around a man in his late forties, à la Richard Dreyfuss’s Roy Neary." You can read more about this 1952 movie here. You should, if you haven't already, because it still sounds pretty cool -- even if it's not Star Wars related.

What do you think about this theory? It would kind of be cool if it did turn out to be true.

Here's the letter sent to AICN:

My theory...

Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird are already set-up as the writer/director team for Star Wars Episode 7.

The reason for this speculation is that there was a spec script project called 1952 that Damon Lindelof sold to Disney recently.

Some specifics from the First Showing article that might point to my theory:

"Brad Bird and fan-favorite film writer Damon Lindelof are teaming up for a new project at Disney. Bird, coming off of his first live-action with Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, is set to direct the mysterious large scale sci-fi project 1952. Whether that's just a codename or an actual year related to the story, we're not yet sure, but the project "has multi-platform aspirations" meaning Disney wants it for theme parks, retail stores and theaters. It'll no doubt be a "big tentpole" movie, and with these two storytellers leading the way, it is definitely something to watch for."

So in addition to the new Star Wars films, we have theme park and retail store aspirations? I don't know about you, but this sounds like it could be the next phase of Star Wars via the Disney model.

"Now we know that Brad Bird is definitely on-board to direct, but other than that, still no plot details. Anyone? It sounds like Disney has something on their hands that could be huge, and they're making sure to build it from the ground up properly, with the right talent top to bottom. I just wish we knew any extra details about what it was actually about."

My theory is that 1952 is a codename for Star Wars episode 7, 8, and 9. Just as Blue Harvest was used as a working title to throw the media off when Return of the Jedi was in production.

So why this mysterious project known as 1952 though? Because the title alone seems to refer to the year 1952, just as titles like Kubrick's landmark of science fiction 2001: A Space Odyssey or Wong-kar Wai's romantic sci-fi piece 2046 refer to specific years in which the films take place. What happened in 1952 then that makes this seem logical? What I think is the obvious event is an incident where supposedly some UFOs “buzzed the tower” Maverick and Goose style if you will, over Washington D.C between the days of July 19–20 and July 26–27.  This incident, known as the Washington flap, is precisedly the type of project that a writer like Damon Lindelof would seem to be interested in (retro, sci-fi, conspiracy theory-laden, and infused with the American mythology of the UFO phenomenon). Disney’s 1952, if it is actually about this supposed UFO fly-over of Washington DC, sounds interesting. Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing this type of 1950’s UFO paranoia done up in big budget Hollywood style via Brad Bird. The thing is, could it be that Disney, Lucas, Lindelof, and Bird needed a really good cover story to mask their involvement with brand spanking new Star Wars? I think this could very well be a ruse not unlike the Blue Harvest concept, which was very thorough in covering up the production of Return of the Jedi.

Another factor is that Mark Hamill was born on September 25th of 1951. I'm guessing that since this story will probably have Luke as the Obi-Wan type of mentor as many around the world are suggesting, that it was a cute little Lindelofian trick to throw people by having the fake title be of a year so close to both Luke Skywalker's birthday and the implication of a possible movie connection to the Washington D.C. UFO fly-over. Lindelof and Disney figured it would be a better ruse to switch the year of this fictitious film from 1951 to 1952, so as to steer speculation towards the UFO fly-by concept.

Oh, and we can’t forget that Qui-Gon, I mean Liam Neeson, was born in 1952. Perhaps a connection, or maybe I’ve watched Aliens too many times and the ping ping ping of the motion tracker has driven me insane?

Again, they're already setting up a whole trilogy that kicks off in 2015, which unless Star Wars Episode 7 is a holiday theatrical release ala Bond or The Hobbit, that leaves only about two-and-a-half years for Disney and the new Kathleen Kennedy captained Lucasfilm to get a script finished to a polished state, put into production, posted (in 3D), and released. For all we know, it is likely that the script has been written and polished and Brad Bird is directing while Lindelof is involved in some capacity as a producer at this point. Pre-production could very well be underway if we look at this current time table of about two years from now as a release date. We're at the end of October 2012. Let's say Star Wars episode 7 is going to be released in the middle of summer, say mid-July. That leaves only two more months for 2012 (minus a couple weeks for all the holiday loss of productivity). Then another 28-30 months if they were to release in mid-July 2015. After all, you’ve got to leave time for prints and marketing and director and writer/producer hyping and interviews). Even if Disney throws money at this, it is not something they will take lightly, as getting Episode 7 drastically wrong will be a huge problem for them and future plans to grow Star Wars into an even bigger cash-eating wormhole, er, I mean fiscally sound investment in intellectual property.

So I'd say this also could explain how Disney already has the basics worked out in terms of being able to announce Episodes 7-9 and more Star Wars films after those every two to three years apart. I wager that Lindelof sat down with George Lucas months ago after his Prometheus work ended, and hashed out the basic story structure for this new trilogy, and perhaps even some of the ideas for stuff that comes after. Just like he sat alongside Ridley Scott and rewrote John Spaihts' Alien Engineers* script, which became a film many of us talkbackers love to bitch and moan about, Prometheus.

Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing was met with very positive buzz after it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. I can't wait to see it for myself. Here's a poster for the film that was spotted at American Film Market by Collider who took a picture of it.

The movie was shot in 12 days, while Whedon was working on The Avengers. It's a contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic comedy, and stars Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Nathan Fillion, Fran Kranz, Jillian Morgese, Sean Maher, Clark Gregg and Reed Diamond. The poster itself features Denisof and Acker.

Synopsis:

Much Ado About Nothing, a modern version of Shakespeare’s classic comedy adapted and directed by Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog), is the first feature from Bellwether, a micro-studio created by Whedon and Kai Cole for the production of small, independent narratives for all media, embracing a DIY ethos and newer technologies for, in this particular case, a somewhat older story.

Shot in black and white by Jay Hunter (Paperheart), the film stars Amy Acker (The Cabin in the Woods) and Alexis Denisof (How I Met Your Mother) as Beatrice and Benedick, the world’s least likely lovers headed for their inevitable tumble into love. As Joss Whedon puts it: “The text is to me a deconstruction of the idea of love, which is ironic, since the entire production is a love letter – to the text, to the cast, even to the house it’s shot in.” The supporting cast includes Nathan Fillion Castle) as Dogberry, Clark Gregg (The Avengers) as Leonato, Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods) as Claudio and Reed Diamond (Moneyball) as Don Pedro.

It seems like Sony Pictures and director Marc Webb are moving forward fast with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The studio is currently in talks with Jamie Foxx to play the lead villain in the film!

According to Variety sources close to the production say that Foxx will play Electro in the movie, but the studio would not confirm or deny it. I honestly don't see Foxx in a movie like this, especially after doing something like Django Unchained. It just does't seem to fit his style, which is maybe why he's considering doing it.

Before Electro became Electro his name was Max Dillion. Instead of being killed after being struck by a bolt of lightening he gained the ability to control electricity. The character was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and first appeared in "The Amazing Spider-Man #9" in February 1964.

I imagine this could very well be the shadowing villain that approached Dr. Curt Connors in the prison cell at the end of the movie asking if Peter Parker knows the truth about his father. The scene features lightning, which led many fans to specualte that Electro could be the next villain. Now even though Electro will be in the movie, it doesn't mean that it was him in the cell with Connors.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are set to reprise their roles and Shailene Woodley will be joining the cast as Mary Jane Watson.

What do you all think about Foxx possibly playing Electro?
