After Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman decided to end their long-running Mythbusters series, the Science Channel decided they wanted to keep the series going but without any of the original talent that made it so good. The network opted to develop a reality series to find a new team of talent to host the show.

The series will be called Mythbusters: The Search, and they have hired Nerdist's Kyle Hill to be the host of the series that will find new hosts. The series will follow a group of contestants who all have backgrounds in science and building skills, and each week they will be challenged with busting certain myths.

Marc Etkind, General Manager of Science Channel, had this to say in a statement:

“MythBusters is the most iconic science series in the history of television, and Kyle is an enormous talent and the ultimateMythBusters super fan. With his encyclopedic knowledge of every MythBusters episode and stunt ever attempted, he is the ideal host to introduce our all-new myths and potential future mythbusters.”

Sounds like they should have just hired the guy to actually host the new Mythbusters show that they are trying to find hosts for! If you're not familiar with Hill, we've posted a few episodes from his Behind Science web-series on the site in the past. He's actually a pretty solid choice to host a Mythbusters show like this.

You can check some of those Behind Science episodes that he did if you click on any of the following links. The Science Behind Why Tony Stark’s Iron Man Suit Doesn’t Kill HimThe Science of How Daredevil Can See Without SightThe Science Behind DOCTOR WHO's Sonic Screwdriver, and The Science Behind Captain America's Super-Soldier Serum

An artist who goes by the name of Disse86 has created a series of character art that transforms several lovable cartoon characters into hideously nightmarish monsters. They include hellish creations of Pikachu, Mike, Winnie the Pooh characters, Shrek, Totoro, and more. It looks like they belong in the demented Hellraiser universe!

Shawn Levy Discusses the Expectations and Pressure of STRANGER THINGS Season 2

Season two of Stranger Things is scheduled to start shooting next month. We don't know much about where the story is going to take our favorite characters, but since the first season ended we've gotten a few teases and hints that you can read about here. While we all excitedly wait to see what happen in season two, producer and director Shawn Levy talked to Southern California Public Radio about the high expectations and the pressure of continuing the story that has become a huge hit and an instant classic:

"Yes, the pressure is on. It would be so blatantly disingenuous of me to say differently. It’s scary to have people love something this much. It becomes impossible to banish all thoughts of not wanting to disappoint. This has been the challenge of it: on the one hand as we’ve see in the movie world, to do a follow-up that feels like the same thing is disappointing to an audience; to abandon things or change things [from the original], that disappoints the audience. A lot of Season 2 is next-level, some crazy stuff, but we must service these characters who are now beloved, who are known to the audience."

The Duffer Brothers have previously explained that season two will be treated like a sequel. They look at James Cameron as an example, explaining that "one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original. So I think we kinda looked to him and what he does and tried to capture a little bit of the magic of his work.”

As you've seen online and on TV, the young actors of Stranger Things are getting older. Levy went on to talk about that aging and explained that they are going to embrace it as they continue the series:

"We had dinner with the kids. We could see it right in front of us. They are not the same. They are still, thank God, charming and authentic, but it is a different form of those things. I think we’re going to stay honest with these kids by growing with them."

There have been multiple seasons planned for Stranger Things, and it's going to be a lot of fun to see where the story ultimately takes these characters.

THE TICK Gets a Full Season Order From Amazon!

The pilot episode for latest TV adaptation of The Tick premiered on Amazon last month and I thought it was great! I had a blast watching the series, and I really enjoyed Peter Serafinowicz's version of the character. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, and I hoped that it would get picked up for a full season.

Amazon Studios announced that The Tick has officially received a full season order along with a couple of other series that include I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson. I'm mostly excited for The Tick, though. I thought it was the best one out of the three.

I'm excited to see how the story for this latest version of The Tick plays out. There are a lot of talented people involved with developing this series including Barry Sonnenfeld (MIB) and The Tick creator Ben Edlund, who has been very excited about this new series, the direction it's going, and the darker tone that it has.

The series also stars Griffin Newman (Vinyl), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Valorie Curry (House of Lies), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin), and Brendan Hines (Scorpion).

The story is set "in a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an underdog accountant with no superpowers at all (Griffin) realizes his city is owned by a global supervillain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover the conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero: the Tick (Serafinowicz)."

Are you excited to hear that this new series will continue? What did you think of the pilot episode?

Ash Vs. Evil Dead season two is set to premiere this Sunday, and in an amusing promo video released on Funny or Die, Bruce Campbell explains the dangers of having a chainsaw for a hand. The video shows us some of Campbell's day-to-day activities with his chainsaw hand and how, most of the time, having a chainsaw hand isn't as awesome as it may seem. But, it sure does make for some hilariously awkward and bloody situations! Check it out!

John Cena Is Being Eyed for Superhero Film SUPERIOR

Mark Millar wants WWE superstar John Cena as the lead in his film adaptation of SuperiorCBM says the film, which is currently being written by Brandon and Phillip Murphy, will be based off Millar's series which follows a boy with Multiple Sclerosis who becomes his favorite fictional superhero after getting a wish from a space monkey. Millar took to Twitter to voice his support for the actor...

As of late, it seems as though Cena has been trying to branch out more from the WWE umbrella. Depending on his schedule and what they have planned through next Wrestlemania (Cena is one world title away from beating Ric Flair's record), it's possible he could take some time off to film. I wonder what he thinks of the idea of starring in what will be a darker superhero film than most.

Cena does do a lot of work for the Make A Wish foundation, so it is possible the film's subject matter may pique his interest.

See More of Superman in New Trailer and Clip For SUPERGIRL Season 2

While fans eagerly wait for the premiere of Supergirl Season 2, The CW has released a new trailer and clip featuring more shots of Superman in action. These give us our best look at Tyler Hoechlin in the role as he and Melissa Benoist's Kara race to save a 200-passenger spacecraft from crashing on Earth.

It seems like a lot of people don't really care for the guy that was cast in the role of Clark Kent/Superman. I'm still waiting to see a full episode with him in it before I say anything, but judging from this new trailer and clip, it looks like he might take a little getting used to. I do hope he works, though. I guess he kind of has to at this point.

The first episode of the season is called “The Adventures of Supergirl,” and this is the synopsis:

When a new threat emerges in National City, Kara/Supergirl teams up with her cousin, Clark Kent/Superman (guest star Tyler Hoechlin), to stop it. Kara is thrilled to have family in town but it leaves Alex feeling a bit left out. Meanwhile, Hank and Supergirl are stunned by the pod that came crashing to Earth.

Supergirl Season 2 is set to air on October 10th.

The Voyager Space Probe Returns to a Ravaged Earth in Animated Short VOYAGER

I've got a fantastically-made animated sci-fi short film for you to watch today called Voyager. The film was written and directed by Loïc Magar and Roman Veiga and it wonderfully combines CG animation with stop-motion animation. I really like the tone of the film and the story it tells.

"Sent in 1977, the Voyager Golden Record was intended to introduce Humanity to possible beings in outer space. But centuries later, Voyager is back on Earth..."

The film centers on the space probe from the Voyager space mission as it crashes back on Earth, which has long been destroyed. There is only one person left to see the Golden Record's message.

DAREDEVIL Season 3 Likely Not Happening Until 2018

It's no secret that Marvel has a lot of stuff planned for its Netflix audience. The end of this week will bring us Luke Cage, and next year already promises Iron Fist and The Defenders. So where does that leave Daredevil? Comicbook.com says more likely than not, we won't be seeing a third season of the series until 2018.

The biggest reason for this delay will be due to leading man Charlie Cox playing Daredevil in The Defenders series, which begins filming later this year. This means the earliest season three of Daredevil can start shooting is 2017, which brings us to the 2018 release date.

That's also the estimation at this time for when we will be seeing season two of Jessica Jones, which I feel sucks more because we only got a taste of her universe, and I want more! I also want more Daredevil, but the last two seasons have delivered so much I feel greedy immediately wanting more.

Maybe Marvel and Netflix will surprise us with something fresh, but at this time it looks like this is how it's gonna play out in terms of release.

Video Mashup Makes Tons of Movie Characters Sing in The Rain

You may recognize editor Antonio Maria Da Silva as the person responsible for those awesome Hell's Club videos, the mashups that imagines a cinematic nexus in which dozens of movie characters of all kinds can interact at a single nightclub. (Watch them here and here.) Now he's back with a new video that offers a different kind of mashup. Set to Gene Kelly's classic rendition of "Singin' in the Rain" from the movie of the same title, the video makes it appear as if other characters from different movies are the ones singing the lyrics. The effect admittedly works better at some points than others, but it's still an amusing mashup that I found entertaining and figured some of you would enjoy.

James Franco and Christian Slater Go To Porn War in Insane Trailer For KING COBRA

$

Before anyone gets triggered, let me forewarn you that King Cobra is a true story centered around gay porn. That story seems absolutely insane as it features two porn moguls going to war over one man: Brent Corrigan. Here's the official description:

Based on a stranger-than-fiction true story, King Cobra is a deliciously dark, twisted plunge into the behind-the-scenes world of the pornography industry. It’s 2006, YouTube is in its infancy, and internet porn is still behind a paywall. Taking the stage name Brent Corrigan, a fresh-faced, wannabe adult video performer (Garrett Clayton) is molded into a star by Stephen (Christian Slater), a closeted gay porn mogul who runs the skin flick empire Cobra Video from his seemingly ordinary suburban home. But as Brent’s rise and demands for more money put him at odds with his boss, he also attracts the attention of a rival producer (James Franco) and his unstable lover (Keegan Allen) who will stop at nothing to squash Cobra Video and steal its number one star. Co-starring Alicia Silverstone and Molly Ringwald, King Cobra is part delirious, tabloid-shocker satire, part American tragedy.

If you thought that description sounded a little odd, wait until you see this trailer! Don't worry, there's isn't anything incredibly NSFW in it, but things look like they're going to go from 0 to 100 real quick!

King Cobra opens in select theaters and VOD on October 21st.

The mashup takes the opening sequence to the show and combines it with Gambino's "Bonfire," which is already a great song. I think this takes it to the next level! (Warning: NSFW language.)

Powerful Teaser Trailer For FENCES, Starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis

Holy crap, this looks great.

Paramount has just released the first teaser trailer for Fences, a new movie starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, and this is one of the best trailers of the year. Fences is a film adaptation of a 1983 play by August Wilson, and Wilson wrote the screenplay for the movie. Washington and Davis played these roles in a revival of the play back in 2010, and both won Tony Awards for their acting. In addition to playing the lead role, Washington is also directing this movie, which is the first in a deal he made with Wilson that involves collaborating to bring more of his plays to life on HBO.

At first, I thought this was just going to be an HBO movie, but I'm glad to see that Paramount is going to put it in theaters. This looks like a super powerful drama with knock-out performances from both leads, and if the rest of the script is nearly as good as the section we hear in this teaser, we're in for a real treat.

Fences hits theaters on December 25, 2016.

How much would it cost to live on the moon? That's a tough question to answer, because there are now a lot of options to make it happen! If we're talking using the exact same method we used to get to the moon the first time, it's gonna be around $24 billion. Wendover Productions says there are much cheaper alternatives, and you can learn about them in the video below.

New DESIERTO Trailer: Gael García Bernal is Hunted By Jeffrey Dean Morgan

$

It's the battle of three-named leading men in Desierto, when a psychotic vigilante hunter played Jeffrey Dean Morgan attempts to kill a group of Mexican immigrants led by Gael Garcia Bernal. This is the second feature film directed by Jonas Cuaron, who co-wrote Gravity with his father Alfonso Cuaron (who's producing this movie).

STX Entertainment has just released a new trailer for the film, which is essentially a truncated version of the longer, more in-depth trailer they put out nearly a year ago. But to be fair, I always complain about trailers spoiling big moments of the movie, and this one doesn't really do as much of that because its length doesn't allow for it; if this is the first you're hearing about this film and this is the only trailer you watch, I'd recommend going to see the movie without watching any more trailers (if that's possible).

Desierto hits theaters on October 14, 2016.

What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they continuously discover there’s nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.

Forget lawn gnomes — how about a lawn Jawa? Now you can add a touch of Tatooine to your yard with this little hooded creature. ThinkGeek is selling a 16" tall, officially licensed Star Wars Jawa lawn ornament for $79.99, and the coolest part is that its eyes light up and there's a solar-powered panel on its back to recharge them.

If you live in California, where this seemingly never-ending drought is still happening, your yard probably looks like Tatooine already, so they'll fit right in!

THE CROWN Trailer: Netflix's New Drama is One of The Most Expensive Shows Ever

$
0
0

Netflix has been pumping out new shows like crazy this year. That's what spending $6 billion (with a "b") on content allows them to do, and a considerable chunk of that money has been earmarked for The Crown, the streaming service's latest drama series that's intended to trace the life of the United Kingdom's Queen Elizabeth II from just before she takes the throne all the way up until the present day. The Crown's first season reportedly cost Netflix a staggering $156 million, which is more than Game of Thrones' $10 million per episode price tag last year and even more than The Get Down's hefty $120 million total cost for its first season. Assuming that cost remains similar throughout this show's planned six season/60 episode run (each season will take place in a different decade), this will end up as one of the most expensive shows of all time.

Peter Morgan, who wrote Frost/Nixon and made The Queen, is the creator/showrunner here, and it stars Claire Foy as Elizabeth, Matt Smith as Prince Philip, John Lithgow as Winston Churchill, and Jared Harris as King George VI.

The Crown's first season of ten one-hour episodes arrives on Netflix on November 4, 2016.

At a time when Britain was recovering from war and her empire was in decline, a young woman took the throne as a matter of duty not desire. Prepare for a world full of intrigue and revelations in The Crown.
