Antoine Fuqua Will Return to Direct Denzel Washington in THE EQUALIZER 2

0
0

It's been confirmed that Antoine Fuqua will come back to direct The Equalizer 2. I don't know if you saw the first film or not, but if you haven't, you should check it out. It's actually a really great flick! Denzel Washington is also set to reprise his badass role in the film and what makes that interesting is this will be the first sequel that the actor has ever done. The news comes from producer Todd Black and in an interview with Collider he said:

"The script is done. We start shooting right after Labor Day, maybe right before Labor Day depending on Denzel’s schedule. So Equalizer 2 will start shooting in September of next year, maybe earlier depending on another movie that we’re shooting with Denzel before that. We’re going to do a little bit more work and we’re going to go into casting right after that for his nemesis."

There are no plot details available, but you can bet that Washington is going to be kicking some more ass. When talking about why Washington wanted to take on a franchise film series like this, Black said:

"He’s always wanted to do a franchise, and he liked the Bourne movies, the earlier ones. I’ve had a friendship with him for 27 years and we’ve talked about him doing a franchise character, so when my partners and I got the rights to Equalizer, we were like, 'Let’s get Denzel to finally do one. This could be the one.' It was never made as a movie and a lot of people didn’t know it was a TV show … but you’ve probably heard the title. He liked the title and I said to him, 'Let us write it for you and if you like the script, great; if you don’t, we’ll go get another actor.' So he signed up for that and it worked."

Washington was great in the first film, and I thought his version of the character was perfect. Black went on to reveal that they are looking to possibly shoot the film in IMAX, which could be fun.

"We talked a lot about the IMAX format for [The Magnificent Seven]. It’s expensive. Antoine wasn’t quite comfortable with that, nor were the studios. We did talk about it a lot. We continue to talk about it for Equalizer 2. He has a whole thing that he’s planning on Equalizer 2 with this new effect that he’s doing, which I can’t talk about, but it’s frickin’ so cool you won’t believe it. "

I'm a huge supporter of IMAX, so any movie shot in that format is a great thing. I'll be looking forward to seeing the next chapter in this cool action thriller franchise.

ABC Is Developing a MAGNUM P.I. Sequel Series Centering on Magnum’s Daughter

ABC is bringing Magnum P.I. back to TV in a sequel series that will revolve around Thomas Magnum's daughter. I haven't watched the original series that starred Tom Selleck in years, but I sure did enjoy it when I was growing up.

Variety describes the upcoming series as "a rebirth of the 'fun, high-action' of Magnum P.I, as Magnum’s daughter, Lily 'Tommy' Magnum returns to Hawaii to take up the mantle of her father’s PI firm." They go on to explains that "She and her tribe of friends mix tropical beaches with the seedy underbelly of international crime and modern espionage, even as she tries to unravel the mystery of the blown spy operation that ended her career in Navy Intelligence."

I don't really remember much of the plot from the original series, but Lily was introduced in it as a young child. The report says that sequel series will stay true to her original backstory, which involved her reuniting with Thomas after her mom and stepdad were killed.

I'm completely on board with this concept and think it could prove to be a fun show. Who knows, maybe Selleck will come back to reprise his role and make an appearance! The big question is... did she inherit his car?

This has got to be the most epic Doctor Strange cosplay that I've seen, and it was crafted by Philip Odango, a.k.a. Canvas Cosplay. He must have used some form of magical powers to conjure this thing up! The photo work is also spectacular, and they were done by Kirby Hartline Photography.

If you want to learn the process of creating your own version of this costume, Odango released a tutorial here

Captivating Trailer for Studio Ghibli's New Animated Film THE RED TURTLE

0
0

I've heard nothing but amazing things about Studio Ghibli's upcoming animated film The Red Turtle. This is actually their first international co-production in which they worked with Dutch animator Michaël Dudok De Wit to bring the story to life. As you'd expect, the animation is stunningly beautiful, and one of the things that make this movie so unique is that there's no dialogue. It looks like such an immersive and moving movie experience. This is a movie I won't be missing out on.

Shipwrecked on a deserted island, a lone man struggles to find his place in this new world. The basics for survival are abundant yet frustratingly out of reach, and danger lurks in the smallest of crevices; every isolated grotto is also a potential grave. The man cleverly uses the forest’s resources to support his raft-making efforts, but his every escape attempt is thwarted by an enormous sea turtle who seems intent on having him stay. Enraged, he attacks the turtle, intent on killing it. What happens next is the beginning of a new chapter in the man’s life, one that will instruct him in the ways of companionship and lead him to understand that nature must take its course.

The Red Turtle has been praised by audiences who have seen it at Cannes and TIFF, and it's set to be released in U.S. theaters on January 20th, 2017.

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA Gets a Beautiful Fan-Made Studio Ghibli-Style Movie Trailer

If The Legend of Zelda ever gets a big screen adaptation, it needs to be an anime film created by Studio Ghibli. This fan-made trailer proves that it could be one of the greatest video game film adaptations made. Of course, it will probably never happen, and that's unfortunate.

The trailer was created by Matt Vince, and he was inspired by the posters that he created last year, which you can check out here. As you'll see, for a fan-made film, this thing is stunningly gorgeous.

Bill Hader Will Voice Alpha 5 in Upcoming POWER RANGERS Movie

Lionsgate officially announced that SNL alum Bill Hader has joined the cast of Dean Israelite's Power Rangers film. He will provide the voice of Alpha 5, the team's robot who was always annoyingly yelling, "Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi!" Hader is the perfect choice to voice this character.

Alpha 5 isn't the first robot character that Hader will have helped bring to life for a movie. His voice was also used to create the voice for BB-8 in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Hader joins a solid cast that includes Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger, Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, and of course, Bryan Cranston as Zordon.

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

The new Power Rangers hits the big screen March 24th, 2017.

Will Jon Bernthal's Punisher Appear in IRON FIST?

0
0

New York Comic Con recently released an update on Jon Bernthal's appearance schedule, which has been cut short due to "his Netflix production schedule." A lot of fan sites have speculated that the actor could be shooting the upcoming Punisher series, but Punisher hasn't even started shooting yet and is not expected to start until 2017. I doubt the series will even premiere until after The Defenders is released, and that hasn't even started shooting yet.

The only Marvel Netflix series that is currently in production is Iron Fist, which leads me to believe that The Punisher could actually show up in that series, which would be pretty damn cool! The addition of The Punisher in Iron Fist will definitely up the excitement levels of the fans, and maybe that's the reason they might have thrown him into the mix.

I've come to learn that not many people are really that familiar with Iron Fist, so a little dash of Punisher will help ensure that people tune in to watch the upcoming series so they can get to know the character.

At this point, all we can do is connect the dots and speculate, which is what fans love to do. We'll just have to wait and see how this all actually pans out.

Creepy-Ass Pennywise the Clown Jack-in-the-Box Revealed as IT Wraps Production

creepy-ass-pennywise-the-clown-jack-in-the-box-revealed-as-it-wraps-production

Director Andres Muschietti has wrapped production of the the first film for the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's It. To celebrate the film wrapping, the director posted a photo of a creepy-ass Pennywise the Clown jack-in-the-box. I assume this is a prop that was used in the film. It has an aged look like it comes from the 1920s or 30s.

I also included a few other photos from the production that the director has posted on his Instagram page that are worth checking out.

The first film is set in the 1980s and will focus on a group of friends known as the "Losers Club" who band together to battle a terrifying monster who is killing children in Derry, Maine. The second film is set 30 years later in modern times when the monster returns and the Losers Club come back together to try and destroy It once and for all.

The movie stars Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special) as Bill Denbrough, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as Richie Tozier, Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Jack Dylan Grazer(Tales of Halloween) as Stan Uris, Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Eddie Kaspbrak, Chosen Jacobs (Hawaii Five-0) as Mike Hanlon, and Jeremy Ray Taylor (42) as Ben Hanscom. Here's a official synopsis:

Based on the novel by Stephen King, the film’s story recalls a promise made twenty-eight years ago that forces seven adults to reunite in Derry, Maine, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that summer return as they prepare to do battle with the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers once more.

The first film is set to be released on September 8th, 2017. To catch up on all of our previously reported It news, click here.

And yes, it's a wrap on #itthemovie. Thank you amazing cast and crew for this magical journey. And thank you #stephenking for giving us this tale.

Haunting Trailer for the Horror Thriller THE EYES OF MY MOTHER

haunting-trailer-for-the-horror-thriller-the-eyes-of-my-mother

"I remember I was fascinated by how an inside of the body looked. She always hoped I would be a surgeon one day."

I've got an eerie trailer here for an unsettling film called The Eyes of My Mother. This is an indie horror film from director Nicolas Pesce, and it premiered at Sundance earlier this year. I didn't get a chance to see it while I was there, but I wish I had! This movie looks completely jacked up.

I came across the trailer at Firstshowing, and they say the film has been described as "a nightmare that is so unsettling and disturbing that many who've seen it want to forget it but can't." Sounds like my kind of film, and I love the black and white photography! Here's the synopsis:

In their secluded farmhouse, a mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, teaches her daughter, Francisca, to understand anatomy and be unfazed by death. One afternoon, a mysterious visitor horrifyingly shatters the idyll of Francisca’s family life, deeply traumatizing the young girl, but also awakening some unique curiosities. Though she clings to her increasingly reticent father, Francisca’s loneliness and scarred nature converge years later when her longing to connect with the world around her takes on a distinctly dark form.

The movie will get a limited theatrical and VOD release on December 2nd. Check out the trailer and let us know if this is a film you'd be interested in watching.

Hugo Weaving Talks About Playing Red Skull and If He'll Be Back AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

I loved watching Hugo Weaving play the Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger. He was perfect for the part, and it'd be a shame if Marvel never brought the villain back into the MCU. In a recent interview with Yahoo, Weaving talked about playing the role and why he had so much fun taking it on:

"I thought it would be a lot of fun to play a classic über-Nazi, someone who thought Hitler was a pussy! [Laughs] It was fun to play; I enjoyed the outrageousness of the German accent that I employed and I enjoyed the extraordinary mask and costume, even though it was unbelievably hot inside it. I enjoy mask work; I enjoy trying to animate masks and reveal certain things that the mask itself might not reveal. V for Vendetta was another example of that, but there was less animation within that mask versus the Red Skull."

The fate of Red Skull in the MCU remains somewhat open. The last time we saw him he grabbed the Cosmic Cube and disappeared in a flash of energy. I don't believe that he died. I believe that Red Skull still is around and that he could eventually reemerge. I have no idea when, where, or how, but it's a possibility. When asked if Red Skull could show up in Avengers: Infinity War, Weaving said:

"With Marvel, it’s pretty basic stuff: accept the deal and enjoy the ride. It’s not a major stretch for an actor, but on the other hand the difficulty with the Marvel universe is maintaining a link to a human dimension within such an extraordinary, technological CGI universe. In terms of me going back and doing another one, I don’t know. I’m not sure what they’re up to with the Red Skull."

The Cosmic Cube is a component of Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet, so he will need it to help obliterate half the life of the universe. You can read more about that here in some recently rumored plot details. It'd be pretty cool if Red Skull were to be included in the story somehow. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have said that they are considering everything, so it definitely could happen.

Would you like to see Red Skull return to the MCU? Below you'll find a clip showing what happened to Red Skull at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger.

THE SIMPSONS Awesomely Parodies ADVENTURE TIME in Newest Couch Gag

The latest opening couch gag for The Simpsons pays homage to the cartoon series Adventure Time and it's freakin' glorious! If you're a fan of these animated shows, you're going to love this! I never I thought I'd see these two series crossover with each other, but here it is!

This couch gag will open up with the Season 28 premiere episode, "Monty Burns' Fleeing Circus," which is set to air on this weekend on September 25th, but you don't have to wait until then to see it because you can watch it below.

On a side note...I can't believe The Simpsons is entering its 28th season! That's just insane!

Daniel Radcliffe Wants To Join GAME OF THRONES and Immediately Get Killed Off

0
0

Game of Thrones is known for casting amazingly talented British actors, but they've largely chosen to bring in older veterans like Jonathan Pryce or Ian McShane for roles on the show. But why not add a younger, but still very experienced actor to the ranks? Daniel Radcliffe, the former Harry Potter himself, has expressed interest in being part of the show — if only for a little while.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Radcliffe spoke about the freedom he currently has when choosing projects:

"I've recently read a couple of really good TV pilot scripts," he said. "But then it's signing on for seven years. Right now, I have a little bit of freedom. So if I read a script for something that's filming next year, I don't have to turn it down because I'm not available - which I did, for a long time."

When asked if a shorter run on something like Game of Thrones was an option, he responded very enthusiastically:

"I would love to. If they want to just bring me in and f**king kill me, I would be so happy to do that."

Do I actually think this is going to happen? Probably not, since seeing an iconic actor like Radcliffe might take Game of Thrones viewers out of the experience of watching the show and draw attention to the fact that we're seeing Harry Potter in another fictional universe. But considering all of the ways that other famous actors have gotten involved in Star Wars recently, hiding in plain sight under pounds of makeup or covered in a costume, it'll be fun to wonder if Radcliffe is lurking somewhere in the back of a crowd shot next season.

Joker and Harley Quinn Get Their Own FIFTY SHADES OF GREY Mashup

Honest question: would you watch a Fifty Shades of Grey-type film about Joker and Harley Quinn? I probably would. I don't think a film like that has any chance of being made, but I'll put it out in the universe in hopes some WB executive is reading. While we're at it, I would also watch a Joker and Harley movie that leads into a Batman movie!

Back to the Fifty Shades thing, though. Nerdy Hero spent a year making this mashup trailer and it deserves your attention. Check it out below!

Paramount Delays RINGS and FRIDAY THE 13TH...Again

0
0

Patience is a virtue, but Paramount Pictures is pushing horror buffs to the limit with the company's latest decision. Variety reports that not only has the studio has delayed The Ring sequel Rings for the third time, but they've also delayed the new Friday the 13th movie.

Rings was originally set to premiere in November of 2015, but was bumped to April 1, 2016, and then kicked to October 28, 2016. Now its new date will be February 3, 2017. I don't know a ton about horror, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that moving a horror film out of a prime Halloween release date doesn't bode well for the studio's confidence in that movie.

Friday the 13th fans are also used to waiting, but while this latest delay might suck in the near future, it may not bode as poorly for the film's overall quality. Originally set to hit theaters on January 13, 2017, the new Friday the 13th will now arrive on Friday, October 13, 2017. That's a move that actually makes sense to me, and it allows the studio to reintroduce a horror icon like Jason Voorhees to audiences just before Halloween.

With Mission: Impossible and Transformers taking the year off and the pain of a big flop like Ben-Hur still fresh in the studio's memory, it feels like Paramount needed a couple of wins this year. But they recently took a $115 million write-down for an upcoming movie (believed to be the goofy-looking family film Monster Trucks), and now they won't have Rings to help them out in the Halloween season. Yikes.

Duncan Jones' MUTE Takes Place After MOON, and We'll Find Out What Happened to Sam Rockwell's Character

0
0

Duncan Jones' Moon is a terrific sci-fi movie, and I was pleased to hear that his longtime passion project Mute — which he begins shooting next week — takes place in the same cinematic universe. I haven't paid too much attention to the details in the intervening years (Jones has been wanting to make Mute for a long time, even before Moon came out in 2009), so while this may be old news to some of you, I just learned a couple of new details about the connection between the two films and I wanted to share them with you.

First of all, here's the synopsis for Mute in case you have no idea what I'm even talking about:

Berlin. Forty years from today. A roiling city of immigrants, where East crashes against West in a science-fiction Casablanca. Leo Beiler (Alexander Skarsgard), a mute bartender has one reason and one reason only for living here, and she’s disappeared. But when Leo’s search takes him deeper into the city’s underbelly, an odd pair of American surgeons (led by Paul Rudd) seem to be the only recurring clue, and Leo can’t tell if they can help, or who he should fear most.

Now I'm going to drop some spoilers for the end of Moon. At the end of that film, one of the Sam Bell clones (played by Sam Rockwell) escapes from the Lunar Industries facility, returns to Earth, and blows the whistle on the company's unethical practice of using clones instead of humans to run the show up there.

So here's the connection. Mute takes place eleven years after Lunar Industries first set up the moon-based facility, and Rockwell is supposed to cameo in the new movie as a way of providing some answers about what happened to that Sam Bell clone who made his way to Earth. /Film points out that Jones wants to make a third film that takes place in this universe as well; not much is known about that one, other than that it has a female lead, but as Jones told Bleeding Cool a few years ago:

You’ll definitely see the world expanding. As far as the epilogue of Sam Bell’s adventures there are going to be… the plan was to doMute first. Mute is a sci-fi story that takes place in Berlin. It’s very much a city film. Moon’s obviously a film about isolation, about as isolated as you can get on the far side of the moon. And there’s a third science fiction film, which will hopefully be the next film, which is a very different thing, which I can’t say too much about right now. But all three of those are connected in that they all take place within the same universe and each one of them will have just a couple of little fingers into each other’s story, so you’ll… just a little link between them all. So you’ll find out a little bit more about what happens in Moon in Mute and in this other film.

I'm very excited to see Jones expand the universe he created seven years ago, and pay homage to films like Blade Runner and Casablanca in his own unique way. Mute sounds awesome, and I'm glad he's finally able to get it off the ground.

The Entire Series of SMALLVILLE is Headed To Hulu

Just when I thought it was a solid move to cancel my Hulu subscription, this happens. EW announced that the entire series of Smallville is on its way to the streaming service. This will be the first time that the series has been available for streaming since it ended back in 2011.

You'll be able to see the entire series starting October 1st and relive the magic! I've sat in on panels for the show, met various actors, and Michael Rosembaum is from my hometown...and I've still never seen this show. I'm assuming you're going to say it's worth my time to check out?

Peter Capaldi Will Appear As The Doctor in DOCTOR WHO Spin Off CLASS

0
0

Peter Capaldi will appear as The Doctor in the young adult spin-off series Class. io9 writes that the cast confirmed the news in a recent Q&A, as well as revealed that the new show will air alongside series 10 of Doctor Who

The show is about kids attending Coal Hill Academy and coping with living in the unique Doctor Who universe, where aliens and monsters run rampant throughout the ever-changing timeline.

Class is set to premiere next month, which is absolutely insane because there's been little to no promotion, footage, or really anything besides its initial announcement. I think the last time I heard about it was several months ago, and now this?!

I'm glad we'll be seeing the Doctor in tow, but I still know almost nothing about this new series, which is being labeled as YA...but technically, isn't Doctor Who geared towards that audience as well? Is this some kind of Disney Channel-type series? I NEED TO KNOW.

I guess we'll find out soon.

Video Explains How BREAKING BAD Episode "Ozymandias" Defines The Entire Series

Nerdwriter is one of the best people on the web at schooling me in things I never gave a second thought to while watching. In this video, he examines the Breaking Bad episode "Ozymandias" and draws parallels between the show's theme and the writing piece it was named after.

One thing I really think he hit the nail on the head with that I always noticed was Walter White's inability to see himself as others see him. There would always be statements he would make in the show or situations that would directly contradict how Walt actually was vs. how he thought he was.

This is a really interesting video, if you've finished the series, I highly recommend you watch it!
