Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy Appear in First Trailer For BIOHAZARD: VENDETTA

The first trailer for the new CG Resident Evil film Biohazard: Vendetta has appeared, and I'm already psyched! In this short video, we see Leon Kennedy examining a bunch of dead bodies in a morgue and Chris Redfield storming the original mansion from the game. I have no idea how the two will be connected, but I'm really excited for this movie. It looks like it will finally do some justice to the video games!

Biohazard: Vendetta is set to hit theaters sometime in 2017. Check out our original announcement for the film on GameTyrant

JURASSIC WORLD 2 Won't Have a $260 Million Budget

Update: /Film has a source close to the Jurassic World 2 production that tells them "development hasn’t even reached a point where a budget can be finalized," and their source says "the budget will not be anywhere near $260 million." No word whether the comments from Bayona were merely mistranslated or made up entirely. Our original article follows.

The Jurassic World sequel will have a budget of over $100 million more than its predecessor, according to Spanish magazine El Pais Seminal. They spoke with director J.A. Bayona, and he revealed the new film would be receiving a $260 million dollar budget, which is considerably larger than Jurassic World's $150 million.

Who knows what you can do with a quarter of a billion dollars of CGI money, but were gonna find out come 2018! Maybe Chris Pratt will be able to work with LIVE raptors?! Let's just hope they aren't setting themselves up for a massive flop like John Carter was with its similar budget.

Supercut of The "Minnesota Nice" Accent in The Coen Brothers' FARGO

The FX series Fargo is one of the best shows of the current Peak TV era. Before the show started, I went back and watched the Coen Brothers' 1996 film on which it's loosely based, and was shocked at how great it was. I'd seen it once probably ten years ago, but this second viewing really impressed me. Not only does it still completely hold up twenty years after its debut, but it's arguably one of the Coens' greatest cinematic achievements.

While we can talk all day about the more serious aspects of the movie, one of the simple pleasures I enjoy about it is hearing the Minnesota accents. I've lived in the southern part of the U.S. for all my life (on both coasts), so it's an accent that's completely alien to me. In a new piece at Fandor, Candice Drouet put together a supercut of all the best accent moments from the movie, and explained the purpose of why the Coens utilized it so much in the film. Check it out, yeah?

The use of ‘Minnesota Nice’ in Fargo serves three purposes. First, it creates an eccentric, even exotic atmosphere for what might otherwise be seen as the heart of middle America at its most well-mannered and “normal.” Second, the variety of distinctively regional figures of speech and vocal tics spoken by a cast of atypical characters provides a kind of musical rhythm to the dialogue. Lastly, the pleasantness of these first two effects contrasts sharply with the severity of the crimes committed over the course of the film, creating a distinctly dark humor that’s unique among all films, even the Coens’.

AMANDA KNOX Trailer: Netflix Wades Back into True Crime Waters

With Making a Murder winning big at the Emmys for Netflix, the streaming service looks to once again capitalize on the nation's obsession with true crime stories. The latest piece of media to add to the resurgence is Amanda Knox, a feature-length documentary directed by Rod Blackhurst and Brian McGinn which explores the bizarre case of Knox, who was accused of murdering a woman named Meredith Kercher back in 2007. I wasn't paying much attention to the details of the story back then, so while part of me wonders if I'm playing too much into the hands of these companies by eating up all of these true crime properties, another part of me is certainly intrigued in the story and wants to know what happened.

I've pasted the synopsis below, as well as three trailers for the doc. The first one is brand new, and the second two are set up in a "suspect her" and "believe her" format, with each one coming at the story from a different perspective. The doc hits Netflix on September 30th, so let us know if you'll be checking it out.

The 2007 murder of British exchange student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy has become a case study in the vagaries of crime and punishment. Seattle native Amanda Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted and — after four years in prison — acquitted for Kercher’s murder, though just what happened on that November night remains shrouded in mystery. This gripping, atmospheric documentary from directors Rod Blackhurst and Brian McGinn revisits the story with unprecedented access to its key players and poses troubling questions as to why both the legal system and outside observers got so much wrong about the case.
Knox arrived in Perugia to start university that September. She was 20. Kercher was her roommate. Nothing about Knox’s behaviour or girl-next-door charisma suggested she was capable of a vicious killing. This was what made her an enticing suspect: the notion that a femme fatale could appear so innocent. “Either I’m a psychopath in sheep’s clothing,” declares Knox, “or I’m you.”
Perugia prosecutor Giuliano Mignini, one of the film’s most fascinating subjects, regards Knox as “a little bit of an anarchist.” Journalist Nick Pisa, who speaks candidly about the media’s hunger for sensationalism, attests to the allure of painting Knox as a depraved sex maniac. As the trial progresses, the real Knox and her possible motives recede into the background.

Watch: 20 Minute Video Essay About STAR WARS: SPLINTER OF THE MIND'S EYE

Movie studios attempt to jump-start franchises all the time, coming hot out of the gate with big ideas for a trilogy (or more) and sometimes greenlighting sequels before the first entry even hits theaters. When the first movie doesn't catch on with audiences, those studios are usually forced to tuck their tail between their legs and cancel plans for continuing the franchise (see The Golden Compass as an example). Usually, that's the last we hear about a property, and the studio moves on to something else.

What if George Lucas's original Star Wars had tanked? We never would have seen The Empire Strikes Back, but Lucas planned a story called Splinter of The Mind's Eye as a much lower-budget sequel, and a novelization of that script was commissioned.

Some fans have already read Alan Dean Foster's novel and know all about it, but for those who haven't taken a deep dive into the former extended universe, Mr. Sunday Movies has a video in which he breaks it down:

James Gunn Doesn't Care About The Marvel vs. DC Feud

0
0

Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn and director Greg McLean sat down with Variety during the Toronto International Film Festival to talk about their new movie The Belko Experiment (which Gunn wrote). It's a nice interview that includes the revelation that the inspiration for the movie came from a dream in which Gunn saw the whole trailer in his mind! Very cool. Near the end of the chat, the discussion turned to the ongoing creative battle between Marvel and DC in the world of movies.

“I just don’t find any room in my headspace for thinking my movies are superior or inferior to someone else’s,” he said. “I really just think about how can I make, for instance right now, how can I make ‘Guardians Vol. 2’ the greatest spectacle film of all time? That’s all I care about so that’s what I concentrate on. I don’t really think about Marvel versus DC. And also any time a Marvel movie comes out that isn’t as good as I wished it was or anytime a DC movie comes out that isn’t as I wished it was, I’m disappointed because I love these characters. I grew up reading Marvel and DC comics. I want them all to be good. I also want them all to be good just for selfish purposes because when superhero movies are good, people go see other superhero movies. It's not like only Marvel or only DC can make money. If they both make great movies, they both help each other make money."

That's the most level-headed way of looking at it. Fans have drawn major lines in the sand over this issue, and it's kind of crazy to think that people would deprive themselves of high quality entertainment by only supporting one side against the other. Gunn's right on the money here: if both companies make great films, everyone wins. I'm glad he's got his eye on the prize with Guardians Vol. 2, and I'm confident he'll be able to deliver something spectacular with that one.

Supergirl and Superman Team Up in New Promo Spot For SUPERGIRL Season 2

supergirl-and-superman-team-up-in-new-promo-spot-for-supergirl-season-22

The CW has released an exciting new promo spot for the upcoming second season of Supergirl. It features our first footage of Kara (Melissa Benoist) teaming up with her cousin, Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), as they take to the sky to help protect Metropolis from a catastrophic event.

As a fan of the first season, I'm truly excited to watch Season 2 with my girls, who ask me almost every day if the next season has started yet. I've never seen them so impatient about a show before.

Anyway, it's awesome seeing Supergirl team up with Superman, and I'm looking forward to seeing what new adventures are in store for them.

In Season One, Supergirl soared fighting crime and battling various villains, chief among them two Kryptonians who were intent on destroying earth, but she has yet to find that same empowerment as Kara Danvers. Now, in Season Two, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO., protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.

Supergirl returns on Monday, October 10th.

Video: 90-Year-Old Angela Lansbury Sings BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Theme Song at 25th Anniversary Screening

Last night, Angela Lansbury gave a surprise performance of the title song during a 25th anniversary screening of the Disney animated classic Beauty and the Beast. The actress (who's arguably just as famous for her work on the stage as on the screen) is 90 years old and will turn 91 in less than a month, but her voice is just as excellent as it was 25 years ago. Plus, at the very end of the video, there's a little extra bonus for fans of the movie that she threw in that's sure to put a smile on your face.

Beauty and the Beast hits Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow, September 20, 2016, and Disney's new live-action movie arrives in theaters on March 17, 2017.

STAR WARS: THE TRIFORCE AWAKENS — Nintendo Characters Invade A Galaxy Far, Far Away

We're less than three months from the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so some of you may have already put last year's The Force Awakens out of your mind as you gear up to see Lucasfilm's newest adventure in a galaxy far, far away. But a new parody video called Star Wars: The Triforce Awakens asks you to relive the magic of J.J. Abrams' blockbuster all over again, but this time with a slight twist — the characters are all blends of Star Wars characters with ones you'd recognize from the Nintendo universe. It's a really cool mixture of two properties that have huge fandoms and a lot of crossover between them, so I'm confident that a decent percentage of you will dig this.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Actor Scoot McNairy Joins FARGO Season 3

0
0

Hot on the heels of last Friday's news that 10 Cloverfield Lane star Mary Elizabeth Winstead has joined the cast of FX's spectacular crime series Fargo for the show's third season, we have another addition to the already-stacked group of actors. TV Line spoke with Fargo creator/showrunner Noah Hawley last night during the Emmy's, and he revealed that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actor Scoot McNairy has come on board for the third season.

While it was revealed that he'd have a recurring role, the outlet wasn't able to confirm any information about who he'd be playing in the show.

The third season takes place sometime around 2008 or 2010 and will take on the rise of selfie culture. At this point, it's still unclear exactly if or how it will tie back in to the events of the previous two seasons. Ewan McGregor will star in dual roles as twin brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy; Emmit's a successful businessman known as the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, while pot-bellied Ray is a down-on-his-luck parole officer who blames his brother for his lot in life. Carrie Coon (The Leftovers) plays the chief of the Eden Valley police, and Winstead will play Nikki Swango, a “crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing."

Most will instantly know McNairy as the wheelchair-bound man from BVS, but he's built up an extremely impressive resume over the past ten years in movies like Monsters, Argo, 12 Years a Slave, Frank, and Gone Girl. He's also starring on AMC's Halt and Catch Fire. McNairy is slowly proving himself to be one of the best character actors around these days, and I'm excited to see him mix it up with the rest of these talented players in the new season of Fargo. Filming is supposed to begin later this year and season 3 is slated to arrive on FX sometime in 2017.

FIFTY SHADES Star Jamie Dornan in Talks To Play Will Scarlet in ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS

0
0

Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan has found a role of a different shade...Scarlet. Variety reports that the actor is in talks to play the character of Will Scarlet in Lionsgate's Robin Hood: Origins, which will star Kingsman actor Taron Egerton as the title archer. A different Jamie — Mr. Foxx — is lined up in the role of Robin Hood's number one sidekick Little John, while The Knick's Eve Hewson will play Maid Marian.

Peaky Blinders director Otto Bathurst is directing from a script by Joby Harold, who also wrote Guy Ritchie's upcoming King Arthur movie. As the title might indicate, this movie "follows the titular hero as he returns from the Crusades and forms a band of outlaws to deal with corruption."

Traditionally, Will Scarlet is the half-brother of Robin Hood and one of his Merry Men. Christian Slater played the character in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Based on what I've seen of his work so far, Dornan doesn't have the level of charisma that I'd like to see from a supporting player in a movie like this, one where presumably there's going to be a lot of emphasis on the banter between the Merry Men. Does anyone think I'm being too harsh? Have you seen Dornan show a flash of promise that you think might be more fleshed out in this movie?

Tom Holland Was Pranked on The Set of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

Tom Holland's performance as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War made a huge impression on the geek community. His take on the character (aided, of course, by the script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely) finally felt closer to the Spider-Man many of us recognize from the comics — not too dickish or arrogant, willing to sling some zingers along with his webs, and a sense of youthful wonder at being in the presence of all of those heroes.

We're stoked to see what Cop Car and Clown director Jon Watts does with Spider-Man: Homecoming, and while we've seen some smooth moves and high-flying antics from the set, Holland took to Instagram today to share that he's been the victim of a prank during filming.

Loving my new set chair. Thanks guys. Should you really be treating number one like number two. #norespect hahaha 😂

A photo posted by ✌️ (@tomholland2013) on

Just to be clear: this isn't some weird situation where he's nicknamed himself "number one." Because he's the star of the movie, Holland is "number one" on the call sheet, and I'm sure you understand the rest.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters next summer on July 7, 2017.

Capcom's MONSTER HUNTER Game Is Currently Being Developed as a Film

This past weekend at the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom producer Ryozo Tsujimoto revealed that there is a big screen adaptation in the works for their video game franchise Monster Hunter.

There are currently no details on the project, but Kotaku reports that Tsujimoto said the movie is currently progressing through development.

In case you're not familiar, Monster Hunter is a series of fantasy-themed action role-playing games that all started in 2004 on the PlayStation 2. The game centers on a hunter in a fantasy world who embarks on quests to hunt out specific kinds of monsters to kill or capture them.

This is one of those games that I remember renting from Blockbuster. I remember it was a pretty fun game, and it it could make for a great epic film, if it moves past the development stage and into production.

Are you a fan of this game series and would you be interested in seeing a feature film version of it?

Nathan Fillion Reveals a Crazy Opening Scene for FIREFLY That Was Never Shot

0
0

This past weekend I attended Long Beach Comic Con where a Firefly reunion panel took place! As you know, the classic sci-fi series only lasted 14 episodes before Fox prematurely pulled the plug on it. Since then fans haven't given up on saying that they want more.

Nathan Fillion (Captain Malcolm Reynolds) was in attendance along with co-stars Summer Glau (River Tam), Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb), Jewel Staite (Kaylee Frye), and Sean Maher (Dr. Simon Tam).

During the panel, Fillion revealed a crazy pitch for an opening scene of an episode that was never made. It's a shame because it sounds so cool!

"Joss once described an opening scene to me where we are looking at a planet with a ring around it and as we come in close, we see the ring is actually rocks and pieces of ships and old derelicts. It's a junk ring. It's the junkyards... we mentioned it in Firefly one time. We see little bits and we're jumping slowly from bit to bit and as we get closer we see Serenity floating lifeless and these little people getting on and coming through it, and as they get into the airlock and they close it, they come and there's Malcolm Reynolds, bleeding and cut, strapped down with giant guns and not looking great. He's got these two giant guns, and he says, 'Get off my ship.'"

How freakin' badass is that!? I would have loved to see that scene play out, and maybe one day we would have had the show not been canceled. Fillion also talked about what it was like after he found out the show was canceled:

"We had three more days of shooting after we were canceled and I remember thinking, 'this is going to be the worst. Every day is going to be painful reminder of what we're losing and it's going to be one of the saddest, most horrifying three days of the shooting.' And it turned out to be amazing. Everyone was determined to squeeze any last remaining drops of joy we could get from this wonderful experience. I was really impressed with how people pulled together."

I love that they all had this great positive attitude of finishing off their series strong. It was so sad to see that series end, and it would be so cool if we got some kind of limited revival series like Fox did with The X-Files, but I doubt that will happen. When talking about the fans wanting more, Fillion said:

"I totally get wanting more. I hear it all the time. 'Is there going to be more? When is it? Could there be? What if there was?' And I get it. At the same time, we all had, what I would call, my dream job. It was the perfect position. Everything was great. Even the challenges we faced, we faced them together. We were all in it together and we were all pulling for the same thing, to make a great show. And I loved every minute of it. It's really hard to look at that kind of stuff and say 'give me more.'  Because enough is enough. Oh my god. It was everything. It was everything. How can everything not be enough?"

In a way, it hurts to hear him say that because Firefly could have been so much more had Fox let it keep going. But I completely understand what he's saying. Firefly has its legacy, it has its hardcore fan base, and we will alway love what Joss Whedon and his team did with this series n the time that they had to do it.

Thanks to THR for the quotes.

A Man Is Tormented by the Stuffed Animals He Gave His Ex-Girlfriends in Hilarious Comedy Short

You've got to watch this great horror comedy short film called "Teddy Bears Are For Lovers." The story centers on a 20-something Casanova who becomes haunted and tormented by the teddy bears and other stuffed animals that he gave to all of his ex-girlfriends.

The movie was directed by Almog Avidan Antonir from a script written by David Ernesto Vendrell, and as you'll see, the short is fantastic. I love this concept, and it was hilariously executed by the filmmaking team. I really hope you enjoy this bit of craziness!

Stunning Trailer for Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence’s Sci-Fi Film PASSENGERS

0
0

I got my first look at the film Passengers earlier this year at CinemaCon and I was blown away by what I saw. This movie, which stars Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, looks absolutely spectacular and today we have the first official trailer for you to watch. This is a fantastic trailer with a lot of exciting footage and intense footage. I love what I’ve seen of this film so far.

The story centers on a group of 5,228 people who are traveling across the universe in a ship to colonize a new planet. That planet is 120 years away from earth so the people are put into a hypersleep so that they can survive the journey. 30 years into the trip there’s some kind of malfunction, and two passengers wake up from their hypersleep. Unable to put themselves back in hypersleep, they are destined to live out the rest of their lives on this journey.

The two passengers are Jim (Pratt) and Aurora (Lawrence) and as they begin to fall in love with each other they learn that the ship is in grave danger so they set out on a mission to save the passengers who are still in hypersleep.

Passengers was directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus). It’s set to be released on December 21st, 2016. This is a movie that you won’t want to miss. Check out the trailer below.
