Hilarious Parody Ad For Apple's New AirPods

Earlier this week, Conan showed off a hilarious parody ad for Apple's new AirPods. It's done in the style of the classic iPod commercials with the silhouettes of people dancing around, only in this one, the AirPods keep flying out of their ears and they keep losing them.

I think the AirPods are one of Apple's biggest brain farts, and I will never buy a pair. Enjoy the video!

BLADE RUNNER 2 Director Wants to Make a DUNE Movie

Before director Denis Villeneuve took on Ridley Scott's Blade Runner 2, he brought us films such as Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, the upcoming sci-fi thriller Arrival. The guy is an extremely talented filmmaker and he wants to use those talents to adapt Frank Herbert's classic story Dune for the big screen. During an interview with Variety, the director said:

"I’m always looking for sci-fi material, and it’s difficult to find original and strong material that’s not just about weaponry. A longstanding dream of mine is to adapt Dune, but it’s a long process to get the rights, and I don’t think I will succeed."

Just because he wants to direct it doesn't mean it's going to happen. However, I would love to see Villeneuve get to make a new film based on Dune. There have been attempts to bring Dune back to the big screen in the past, but so far they've been unsuccessful. Those attempts have come from directors such as Peter Berg (Lone Survivor), Pierre Morel (Taken), and Alejandro Jodorwsky, whose attempt there is the subject of a great documentary. Maybe Villeneuve is the filmmaker the project needs to push it through development and into production.

David Lynch made a film adaptation of Dune in 1984 and there was a SyFy channel mini-series as well. As much as I liked these, I've always felt that Dune could get an even better adaptation than what's been done before.

Who knows, maybe if Blade Runner 2 turns out to be a big hit with audiences, it will open the door for Villeneuve to make his Dune film.

If You're a Fan of The Film Noir Genre, Watch This Short Film THE NAKED CITY

I'm a big fan of the film noir genre. I love the whole attitude and mood of those films. If you're a fan of the genre as well, I've got a great short film that you've got to watch today called The Naked City. It was written and directed by David Parkin and released back in 2007, but it was just recently brought to my attention. The movie was shot on actual film. The video below may not be the best digital film transfer, but it's a solid film worth checking out. Here's the synopsis:

An ex-Detective investigates an ‘artist’ who photographs the crude aftermath of violent crimes, and exploits them by exhibiting this collection at a high society art gallery. Archer is forced to enter the gaudy world he despises and in the process, comes face to face with the source of his aggression.

I hope you enjoy the film!

Green Day was one of the bands that helped get me through my high school years. I'm a big fan of the band, and its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong stars in an upcoming film called Ordinary World. I had no idea this movie was a thing until I came across this trailer and it actually looks pretty good.

The film is a comedy, the story of which follows a character named Perry (Armstrong), who is a former punk rocker that is ten years into his band's "indefinite hiatus." He's "struggling with his adjustment to the real world, which includes working in his family's hardware store. When Perry's hotshot attorney wife (Selma Blair) and precocious young daughter forget his 40th birthday, his brother (Chris Messina) takes pity and gives him the money to throw a huge rockstar blowout in a fancy New York hotel. At the party, Perry's punk past clashes hilariously with his grown-up reality as he encounters crazy former bandmates, including best pal Gary (Fred Armisen) and an old-flame-turned-manager (Judy Greer), who offers him a chance to revive his stalled career, all in one outrageous day."

Ordinary World was written and directed by Lee Kirk (The Giant Mechanical Man). It will get a limited theatrical released and a VOD release on October 14th.

Cosplayer Believes His Nightwing Cosplay Inspired Batman's New Tactical Suit

Cosplayer Dynamite Webber has created a truly badass Nightwing costume based on the New 52 version of the character. He believes that his armor design inspired Batman's new tactical armor that Batman wears in the upcoming Justice League film, which you can see here. Webber posted the comparison image below and the following note:

"Good to know someone is paying attention. ;) Batflecks new tactical armor next to my new 52 nightwing armor I made a while ago ...."

There are definitely some similarities, but do you think the Justice League movie concept artists and costume designers saw this Nightwing cosplay and said, "That's the new Batman tactical armor!"? I'd say it's highly unlikely, but what do you think?

Good to know someone is paying attention. ;) Batflecks new tactical armor next to my new 52 nightwing armor I made a while ago ....

Bryan Cranston Discusses Why He Wants to Play the Super Villain Mr. Sinister

Bryan Cranston recently confirmed that Mr. Sinister will be in director James Mangold’s Wolverine 3. This is a villain that Bryan Cranston said he would want to play. The actor previously explained:

"You know what I'd like to do? I'd like to do some big superhero villain in some Marvel classic. Create one from scratch… I don’t know what I would do but it would be nasty."

He later clarified saying that that big superhero villain he wants to play is Mr. Sinister. In a recent interview with Geeking Out the actor talked about why he wants to play the character:

“Mr. Sinister has always been someone. It would be very cool. I’m interested in creating a role. I’d love to do something that hasn’t been done before. Lex Luthor, there’s been a lot of that. I’ve been asked to take a look at Commissioner Gordon, and it’s like I would be one in several. I would kind of like to carve out a new identity.”

He could totally do that with Mr. Sinister since he’s never been adapted for the big screen before. Cranston would be freakin’ awesome, and I’d love to see what his vision of the character would be. It’s probably too late for him, though, as there’s a big chance that Richard E. Grant is playing the role in Wolverine 3. If Mangold hasn't cast an actor in the role of Mr. Sinister yet, they better reach out to Cranston!

If they don’t, I’m sure Marvel Studios will go after him for a role in one of their upcoming superhero films. They’d be stupid not to!

George Miller Is Reportedly in Pre-Production on a MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Prequel

For those of you who have been waiting for news regarding a new Mad Max movie, today is your lucky day. The Herald Sun is reporting that director George Miller is currently in development on a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road.  The news comes from a "highly placed onset source" who says the film is called Mad Max: Wasteland, which is a title that has been previously mentioned as being a working title, and it's currently in pre-production.

According to the report, the story will focus on Furiosa's backstory, which is something I think a lot of fans speculated could happen. They go on to say that Miller is "gearing up" for the project, which "could start as soon as later this year" at Broken Hill Film Studio in Austrailia.

Miller has previously said that he plans to make at least two more Mad Max films and that he would love to tell the story of Furiosa because she is such a compelling character. Tom Hardy is signed on to do two more films, but I'm not sure how Max would fit into a prequel story that focuses on Furiosa, unless there is a separate parallel story that deals with Max in the  same time period.

Furiosa is such an awesome and badass character, and it will be great to see Charlize Theron come back to reprise her role. Until we have confirmation from the studio, treat this news as a rumor, but it's a rumor I really hope is true!

Miller did say he was looking to do a smaller film project as his next endeavor, but maybe he decided to ditch that idea and just jump back into the world of Mad Max, which I don't think fans will have a problem with.

So Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner Could Appear in FAST 8

We hardly know anything about F. Gary Gray’s upcoming Fast 8. No plot details have been released, and as far as we knew the franchise said a sweet and heartfelt goodbye to Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner. Well, it sounds like there’s a possibility he could make an appearance in Fast 8 and maybe even more upcoming films in the franchise.

The news comes from Walker’s brother Caleb, who shared some interesting information with Entertainment Tonight. He revealed:

“I had a phone call with Vin for about an hour and we really discussed this a while back. He wanted [our] blessing. [Diesel asked if it] would be acceptable to maybe bring Paul's character back... to really kind of let his fans know he's still out there.”

He added:

"Universal wants to make sure to be respectful of Paul and his image too, and his family,"

I don’t think that O’Conner would come back as a main character, but he could be mentioned by name, be the voice on the other end of a phone call, or appear in a photo, and there are other ways he could briefly appear to let the fans know “he’s still out there.”

Walker’s brothers Caleb and Cody both stood in for Walker and helped shoot on Furious 7 after he tragically died. I guess there’s a chance they could come back to help out again in some way to bring O'Conner back to the franchise.

One thing is for sure, don’t expect O’Conner to get in on any of the main story action. Having the character come back in a very small capacity is just a way of paying tribute to Walker, which I think it cool.

Fast 8 will be released on April 14th, 2017.

Trailer for Doug Jones’ Creepy Horror Film THE BYE BYE MAN

$

Doug Jones is such an insanely nice guy, but he has perfected the craft of being one of the creepiest men alive by playing some of the creepiest characters ever put on film. His latest project is a horror film called The Bye Bye Man, which seems to be inspired by horror legends like Freddy Krueger and the Slender Man. This new supernatural creature, The Bye Bye Man, is played by Jones, and it is another great terrifying role for him to take on.

The story follows three college students who move into an old house off campus. In the process “they unwittingly unleash a supernatural entity known as The Bye Bye Man, who comes to prey upon them once they discover his name. The friends must try to save each other, all the while keeping The Bye Bye Man’s existence a secret to save others from the same deadly fate.”

The film also stars Carrie-Anne Moss (Jessica Jones, The Matrix) as a cop who obviously doesn’t believe anything she is being told about what is going on… until things go really bad. It looks like a fun film worth checking out if you’re into horror or you’re a Jones fan.

The Bye Bye Man was directed by Stacy Title, and it opens in theaters on January 13th, 2017.

HBO's WESTWORLD Gets Two Great Promo Spots and a Featurette - Live Without Limits

HBO has released two new promo spots and a featurette for their upcoming new series, J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan's Westword. This series, which is based on Michael Crichton's 1973 film, looks awesome! I loved the original movie, but this series takes the story and concept to a whole new level. I love both the western and sci-fi genres so mixing them up like this to create a great story is exciting for me.

In the featurette the cast and crew talk about the series and this world that was created for the story. It offers an in-depth explanation of the story, the world it is set in, and the meaning behind it. It's actually really fascinating and worth checking out.

Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

The series has an incredibly talented cast of actors that includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Jimmi Simpson, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Simon Quarterman, Angela Sarafyan, Luke Hemsworth, and Clifton Collins, Jr

Westworld consists of 10 episodes, the first of which will premiere on Sunday, October 2nd.

Red-Band Trailer for DEATH HOUSE Brings Together Horror Movie Icons for Absolute Insanity

$
0
0

This weekend I went to the Son of Monsterpalooza horror convention and attended a panel for a new horror movie coming out called Death House, and this movie looks absolutely insane!

The movie was directed by B. Harrison Smith, who says that he made Death House as a way to help reinvigorate the horror genre. He's an ambitious guy who hopes the film will be a cultural timepiece for the genre. The team behind the film didn't set out to make a cheap-ass horror film for the sake of making a cheap-ass horror film. They wanted to make something great, something that hardcore horror fans would respect and appreciate. The movie is also packed full of horror movie Easter eggs.

Dee Wallace (E.T., Cujo, The Hollowing) is one of the film's stars, and she says that Death House is one of the most unique horror film projects that she's ever been a part of. SHe's been in a lot of horror films over the years, so that's saying something.

The director went on to reveal that this is the first in a series of five Death House movies that they want to make. The script for the film was written by the late Gunnar Hansen, who is best known for playing Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films.

The cast of the film also includes Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Bill Moseley (House of a 1000 Corpses), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes), Danny Trejo (Machete), Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead), Don Shanks (Silent Night Deadly Night), and Camille Keaton (I Spit on Your Grave). That's largest collection of horror actors in a single film.

Here’s the detailed synopsis for the film:

The Death House is the Area 51 of Evil… a subterranean government facility that holds humanity’s worst on nine levels. Hell, Dante’s ninth level, holds the Five Evils… the “dark stars” of Death House. These individuals are so heinous they can never walk among society again. They may also be supernatural.
Agents Toria Boon and Jae Novak have their own dark pasts, arriving at Death House to tour its levels and observe its denizens first-hand as well as the medical and mental experiments of Drs. Eileen Fletcher and Karen Redmane. Their depraved experiments date back to the Nazi doctors of WWII.
Prison cells are virtual reality holo decks that recreate prisoner environments before they were incarcerated. A special hallucinogenic gas keeps inmates under control. The victims are homeless, bused into Death House to play literal victims while killing habits are studied. The results are sick, but only a hint of what goes on here.
Hell literally breaks loose inside the facility when an EMP device detonates, killing all power and communication and… releasing every prisoner. Boon, Novak, and Fletcher are caught in a race against advancing prisoner hordes led by occultist Neo-Nazi Sieg. The monsters are freed, and they’re going down.
Boon and Novak’s fight through Death House turns into a house of horrors gauntlet; their only hope of escape is descending into Hell and enlisting the help of the Five Evils. Events culminate in a violent face-to-face standoff with absolute evil… only to find that they have traveled down a rabbit hole and through a looking glass. Black is white and white is black and the definitions of good and evil no longer apply.
Who are the monsters? Who will escape?

Hansen's final wish before he passed away was to get Death House made, and they did it. The movie is described as having an '80s horror film tone, and it's explained that this isn't a mashup of these actors' onscreen personas, "rather it is a fresh horror/sci fi/action story that dares to be different and give audiences something new in an age of reboots, remakes, and regurgitation."

There's no release date for the film yet, but as a fan of the horror genre, I can't wait to see it!

Today, Flickering Myth is bringing us what could have been as we see early concept builds of suits for both Cyborg and The Flash for Justice League! I can't really say I'm a fan of either of these early designs! Cyborg looks like Slade Wilson, and The Flash looks like something out of Tron! While I'm still not a huge fan of the final design for The Flash, I can say it's for sure an upgrade from the concept suit! Check out the full picture below and let us know your thoughts.

Scouts Battle The Winged Titan Basilisk in Awesome Fantasy Short LOOKOUTS

$

You have to watch this incredibly awesome short film called Lookouts. It’s seriously the best short film I’ve seen all year. This thing is freakin’ stunning! The story centers around a troop of scouts who have to battle a legendary creature called Basilisk, which is a deadly winged titan.

The short was shot and directed by David Bousquet, who was inspired by the Penny Arcade comic series called Lookouts. He did an incredible and impressive job bringing this story to life. I was completely blown away! One of the coolest aspects of the project is that it was shot practically with “live visual effects.” It’s also explained that all of the sets, costumes, and monsters you see in the film were inspired by the creatures created by Jim Henson. Here’s the synopsis:

On their final trial as village LOOKOUTS, a troop of young scouts are ambushed by the very creature they were hunting. After a violent battle the lone survivor, Pehn, escapes into the shadows of the Eyrewood, a mysterious and deadly forest that is home to all manner of wild creatures. The most horrifying of all is the Basilisk, a winged titan with the power to turn its prey into stone. This is the beast the troop of LOOKOUTS were seeking, and now it hunts for Pehn.
This short film is our first exploration into classic narrative filmmaking and it was an absolute joy to create. LOOKOUTS gave us an opportunity to explore new storytelling techniques as well as play with gear and tools in a format outside of advertising. The majority of the film is shot practically with live visual effects. We built sets, costumes, and monsters inspired by Jim Henson’s creations from our childhood, then brought all of those resources together with a wonderful cast and crew into the misty overgrowth of Mendocino’s redwood forests for a production experience we’ll forever cherish.

I’m pretty confident you’re all going to love the hell out of this thing! I want to see a feature film version of this!

GAME OF THRONES Showrunners "Not Interested" in Helming Prequel Series

$

While whispers of Game of Thrones prequels and spin-offs continue to stir around Hollywood, its current showrunners would like to dismiss any notion that they will be a part of them. TVLine says David Benioff and D.B. Weiss responded with the following when asked about the possibility of a prequel:

“You might want to ask George about that...It’s a great world that George created. It’s a very rich world. I’m sure there will be other series set in Westeros. But for us, this is it.”

As for creator George R.R. Martin, he didn't say no, but he did say it's not currently on his list.

"There’s a wealth of material there, and I’m still writing more....At the moment, we still have this show to finish, and I still have two more books to finish.”

Hopefully, Martin has a talented writer in his bloodline because at the pace he's writing, there's no way in hell he's finishing two books before his death.

I think it would be cool to see a prequel to the series just to see the world under the Mad King and Eddard Stark at his peak, but I would be more interested in a "tales of Westeros" series. There's plenty of stuff mentioned in passing in the books that would make for some entertaining one-off episodes!

Are you interested in a Game of Thrones prequel?
