Green Arrow Gets Physical in Extended Trailer For ARROW Season 5

$

0

Here's a new "extended" trailer for the upcoming fifth season of Arrow, although I put the word "extended" in quotations because the trailer is still only a minute long.

There's lots of jumping around, dive-rolling, and parkour going on here as Oliver puts a new team together, gets captured, and then takes a hilariously fake punch to the face at the 51 second mark. Seriously, why would the director put the camera in place where we can clearly see the huge distance between the fist and Stephen Amell's face in that shot? Did they learn nothing from Matt Damon's demonstration about how to stage fight choreography?

Also: if you haven't read it yet, be sure to check out Mick's conspiracy theory about DC purposefully tanking the quality of Arrow to include Amell in the live-action films. I'm sure you'll get a kick out of it.

Arrow returns to The CW on Wednesday, October 5, 2016.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Joins FX's FARGO For Season 3

Noah Hawley's Fargo is one of my favorite shows on television, and I think Mary Elizabeth Winstead is one of the most underrated actresses of her generation, so I was thrilled to hear that she's been cast in the upcoming third season of the FX drama. From EW:

Winstead will play “Nikki Swango,” a “crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing. Nikki is a woman with a plan, focused on always being at least one move ahead of her opponents.”

THR says Winstead will be able to star in the show as long as filming doesn't conflict with a possible second season of her CBS political series BrainDead, but I think the prevailing wisdom is that BrainDead seems unlikely to secure a second season anyway, so she'll probably be good to go here. She joins Ewan McGregor and The Leftovers' Carrie Coon as the major stars of season 3, which is set around 2010 (a few years after season one). McGregor will play twin brothers (read more about those characters here), while Coon will play "Gloria Burgle, the chief of the Eden Valley Police, and a newly divorced mother, who is struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them."

It's still unclear if the show will directly tie into the events of season one, but since both seasons have followed a member of the Solverson family, it stands to reason that there would at least be some connection to that family in season three. We'll find out when the show returns to FX sometime next year.

Marvel Unveils Awesome Details About Its New MONSTERS UNLEASHED! Comic Series

Earlier this month, Marvel announced a new comic series called Monsters Unleashed. At the time, there were no details revealed about what this comic reboot would entail, but that's all changed now. Marvel Comics has offered details on this series and it sounds like a ton of fun!

The news comes from EW, who reports that Monsters Unleashed will be a huge crossover event that will feature "a massive, simultaneous attack on the Marvel Universe by all of these monsters. That’s right, all of them." Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso explains:

“If there ever were a monster who stood 10 stories high or taller and created mayhem in the Marvel Universe over last several decades, they’re gonna be in the story.”

How cool is that!? I'm a big monster fan and seeing a bunch of these creatures invade the Marvel universe is going to be a blast. Editor Mark Paniccia adds:

“Our goal is to cram as many mammoth monsters of Marvel intoMonsters Unleashed as will fit on the page. If you’ve got a personal favorite, chances are very good you’ll see them causing some mayhem in this series. And if you’re worried we’ll forget one, don’t be afraid to tweet at us @Marvel using the hashtag #MonstersUnleashed.”

Many of these monsters are featured in the promo image above created by Steve McNiven. It includes monsters like Fin Fang Foom, Devil Dinosaur, Groot and more. Writer Cullen Bunn says:

“It’s an all hands on deck situation, Imagine something like the Hulk, only much bigger. With the destructive force those creatures have, the heroes will have to mobilize much more quickly. The heroes find themselves very quickly in a situation where they have no downtime, they have no chance to take a breath. They’re moving constantly against what are essentially cataclysmic threats over and over again.”

That sounds exhaustingly exciting! This thing is going have non-stop action! When talking about the history of the Marvel monsters, Alonso says:

“Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Don Heck, and Herb Trimpe – all of these guys created incredible monsters that we remember from my childhood. They’re the equivalent of those Ray Harryhausen-type monsters, those rubber suits that thrill us. To see them coming back, and to take them seriously, it’s a lot of fun.”

There are a lot of artists who will be working on this new series, and the brains behind it are making sure they will have the opportunity to do some incredible art. It's explained that each issue will be illustrated by a different Marvel artist, and some of those artists include McNiven, Leinil Yu, Adam Kubert, Salvador Larroca, and Greg Land

“All of these artists are associated with huge scale superhero action, and we’ll be giving them room to breathe. There will be plenty of two-page spreads and splashes so the book feels as big as it is. Each issue is 30 pages long, which will allow for that. Why the monsters are here now and what they want, is gonna be part of the fun of the story. For people who say they want to see heroes fighting villains, well, here you go. This is the Marvel Universe being momentarily united to deal with this common threat, because if they don’t get united, there’s going to be no Marvel Universe to live in. So that’s an interesting dynamic right there.”

I'm truly excited for this and I can't wait to read it!

Stunning Collection of Geek Culture Art Created By Craig Drake

I'm a big fan of Craig Drake's art style, which is obviously inspired by the art of Patrick Nagel. I love that his art pays tribute to pop and geek culture and the things that we love. The artist currently has an art show hosted by the Hero Complex Gallery in Los Angeles, CA, and I had to share some of the beautiful art that is on display there. It includes pieces inspired by films such as The Fifth Element, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scott Pilgrim, Ex Machina, Big Trouble in Little China, Blade Runner, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Shining, Ghostbusters, Akira, Batman, and more. Drake is one hell of a talented individual (read our review of his book of artwork) and I love what he's come up with here.

Watch Michael Mann, Al Pacino, and Robert De Niro Discuss HEAT with Christopher Nolan

$

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a screening event for Michael Mann's Heat in which Christopher Nolan hosted a Q&A with the director, Al PacinoRobert De Niro and more. It was a pretty awesome experience, and that Q&A has been released online for the rest of you to watch thanks to the Academy of Arts and Sciences, who put on the event.

A couple of the more revealing things that were mentioned was the fact that Al Pacino's character was actually "chipping cocaine," even though it was never shown on screen.

“I don’t know if this has gotten out much. I might be breaking the law now, but I’ll say it. The character I played is a guy who’s been around, he’s done a lot of stuff, and he also chips cocaine. And I always thought that was a choice we made, but yet not showing it because it would be somewhat…”

Mann interjects at this point and says “it would attract too much attention,” then Pacino continues:

“But there is a scene in it…which never got into the film. And I always wanted to say that some time, just so you know where some of the behavior is coming from. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to say that. I’ve wanted to say it for 20 years, so thanks for this opportunity.”

It was also revealed by De Niro that the amazing scene between he and Pacino in the film in the diner was never rehearsed. They just went in and did it. The actor says:

“We decided that we just wanted to talk it through and just save it for the event of shooting it. That’s the only thing we probably did that with. But I tend to not want to rehearse things to the point where I wish I had shot it. That’s a disaster. I always want to stop well short, because I think things work perfect once, and they’ll never be 100% twice. And you want that happening in front of the camera.”

Mann offered some additional information, saying:

“We talked about the scene, we analyzed the scene and we kind of read it off the page a bit, but we didn’t want to do the scene until we were at Kate Mantilini’s. It was so ingrained that I knew if we lost all the tiny, little organic details, it would be different from take to take. So what I wanted to do was shoot with two cameras, two over the shoulders. And then I also had a third camera shooting profiles that we never cut into the film. So I knew there’d be an organic unity to one take, and then there’d be a slightly different organic unity to another. If you look at it very carefully, if Bob [De Niro] shifts his hand like this a little bit, right in the middle of the dialogue, Al is doing something to counter it, because maybe he’s shifting his position to get closer to a weapon. So most of the scene is all Take 11.”

If you're a fan of Heat, you'll definitely want to watch the videos below because it's really cool hearing them talk about their experiences with making the movie.

New STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT Death Star DLC Looks Amazing in Fresh Trailer

10 Famous Actors Who Are Secretly Hidden in Popular Movies

$

ScreenRant has released a fun new video list that points out famous actors and other well-known people who are secretly hidden in ten popular movies. You might know many of these already, but there were a couple mentioned in the list that surprised me. Some of the cameos include Edward Norton in Kingdom of Heaven, Tim Burton in Hoffa, Gene Hackman in Young Frankenstein, Cameron Crowe and Cameron Diaz in Minority Report, and more. Some of them aren't necessarily hidden, but that's what the video is called.

Most of the time, movie cameos are a fun way to put familiar faces in front of audiences -- even if it’s only for a moment or two. Usually, the whole point of a cameo is that we’ll recognize the famous person in front of us. But sometimes, directors get a bit sneaky. They hide famous faces behind masks, make-up and CGI, and sometimes they just put them in roles you wouldn’t expect. And yeah, sure, this might negate the purpose of having an extra celebrity or 2 in the movie, but it also creates some fun Easter eggs for fans to discover.

Here's My Favorite STRANGER THINGS Fan Theory Explained in Video Art

I've seen a lot of fan theories about Stranger Things, especially surrounding the character Eleven, the Demogorgon, and the Upside Down. UPROXX has released a great video that breaks down my favorite theory surrounding the series and it does it through the use of drawings.

The video offers some convincing evidence that implies that Eleven and the monster are one and the same. I know you may have some hang-ups about that, but watch the video because it explains everything and it makes way too much sense for it not to be true. But we'll just have to wait and see.

New Poster for THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Released in Honor of Batman Day

In honor of Batman Day, Warner Bros. has released a new poster for The LEGO Batman Movie. It comes with the tagline, "Always Be Yourself. Unless You Can Be Batman." This movie looks ridiculously hilarious and I can't wait to see it! I included the trailer for the film that was released at Comic-Con below for you to watch.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure: “The LEGO® BatmanMovie.”  But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Will Arnett reprises his role as Batman and he will be joined by Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker, and Mariah Carey as Mayor Marion Grange.

The LEGO Batman Movie hits theaters on February 10th, 2017. Happy Batman day!

Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park recently released a wonderful new piece of concept art from Captain America: Civil War for you to enjoy featuring Giant-Man being taken down by Iron Man, War Machine, and Spider-Man. This was such a fun scene in the movie and I love this illustration that helped inspire it.

I also include a couple of cool art prints for the film that were created by artist Vance Kelly. One of them focuses on Team Cap and the other one focuses on Team Iron Man. Captain America: Civil War was released on Blu-ray/DVD earlier this week. I'm sure you all own it by now.

Imogen Poots Joins Zoe Saldana in The Fantasy Film I KILL GIANTS

Imogen Poots (Green Room, Roadies) has been cast in a new fantasy film with Zoe Saldana called I Kill Giants. They both join Madison Wolfe (True Detective, Joy), who will play the lead young girl in the film.

imogen-poots-joins-zoe-saldana-in-the-fantasy-film-i-kill-giants4

The film is based on a critically-acclaimed graphic novel written by Joe Kelly. The story follows a misfit girl named Barbara (Wolfe) who is battling both real and imaginary monsters in her life. Saldana is taking on the role of a school psychologist named Mrs. Mollé, who plays a key role by helping Barbara face both internal and external threats, forming an inspiring bond with her in the process.

There's no information on who Poots is playing, but she's a great actress that I've enjoyed watching in the films she's been in. I'm sure she'll be awesome in the movie.

The movie is being directed by short film director Anders Walter from a script written by the original writer Joe Kelly. This will be Walter's first feature film, and it sounds like a great story to take on. This has the potential to be an incredible film and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

The movie begins shooting on September 27th in Ireland and Belgium.

As a way to celebrate Batman Day, director Zack Snyder shared a photo from Justice League giving us our first teasing look at J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. As you can see, he's signaling Batman and waiting for him to show up. The character is engulfed in shadow in the photo, but we can see that Simmons is sporting the classic Gordon look. I can't wait to see Simmons' version of this character in action!

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
