Greg Berlanti is Developing a BLACK LIGHTNING Show Based on The DC Comics Hero

$

Greg Berlanti, the mastermind behind The CW's shared universe of superhero shows like Arrow, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl, is at it again. Deadline reports that Berlanti has teamed up with The Game and Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband Sam to develop a drama series centered on the DC Comics superhero Black Lightning, who has the power to create and manipulate electricity.

Written by the Akils, Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: he hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.

Apparently this show has been in the works for over a year, but they've finally boiled it down to its final form and they're pitching it to networks now. (The CW seems like an obvious natural fit, but who knows — they could be aiming for a larger network audience.) With Marvel and Netflix ramping up Luke Cage later this month, this is DC's chance to get their own black superhero show on TV (aside from the little-known Vixen) relatively quickly.

Dear Duffer Brothers, This is What I Want From STRANGER THINGS Season 2

On Wednesday, Netflix officially announced that there will be a season 2 of one of their hit shows Stranger Things. Entertainment Weekly also released an interview with showrunners/creators The Duffer Brothers, where they talk about some things we can all expect from the upcoming season.

When I saw the teaser announcement, I got SUPER hyped. I loved the first season. It has been the basis of quite a few discussions I have had with my friends over the past few months. After reading the EW interview, I thought about what I wanted to see out of season 2 of Stranger Things. I compiled the list, and in no particular order, here are just five of the many things that I am looking forward to in the next season of Stranger Things.

1. More of The Upside Down

The world of the Upside Down was definitely one of my favorite parts of the series. By the end of the first season, though, I still had many unanswered questions. Is there more than one monster? Are there still ways to access the Upside Down? Is anyone still trapped there? How does eating and drinking work in the Upside Down? Is there food just lying around? Does it taste the same? SO MANY QUESTIONS, and I'd love answers to all of them — especially the last two.

2. Numbers 1-10

There are a whole lot of numbers between one and Eleven, and I want know what happened to all of them. Are they dead or alive? If alive, do they live in the surrounding towns that the Duffers plan to visit in season 2? Did they form a small team of adult fighting children that live in a tree house using an insane number of acronyms and making the world a better place for kids, free from the tyranny of the man known as "Father?" Questions that need answering.

3. Nancy and Jonathan

If Nancy and Jonathan do not get together, so help me, I will throw a tantrum and lock them in the Upside Down myself until they get it together. I’m a sucker for some romance and want Nancy to be with Jonathan, although I'm not going to forget about how creepy he was at the beginning of the first season. Staking out in the woods taking pictures of people like that...NOT COOL DUDE.

4. Steve and Jean-Ralphio

This has to be one of my favorite unexplored theories in the show. It makes total sense and quite frankly this is just the Stranger Things version of R+L=J. So Duffer Brothers, go ahead and save us six seasons of fan theory agony and let’s call a spade, a spade.

5. Justice For Barb

This has to be probably one of the most contentious topics debated about Stranger Things season 1, but let me just say "Justice For Barb." They did Barb dirty. The worst part is, no one even thought twice about her going missing! The Duffer Brothers have talked about exploring the effects of Barb's death in season 2. I'm hoping it's in the form of “Barb the Petty and Angry ghost,” Barb being brought back to life, or getting her own Netflix spin-off, #LifeWithBarb. I hope we get #JusticeForBarb, but until then, Jimmy Fallon did a sketch in memory of Barb.

Bonus: More Dustin, Please!

Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin was possibly my favorite character in the show. He was just a gem. From the way he carried himself to his line delivery, he often stole the scene for me. I always just wanted a little more Dustin. So let's see some more Dustin, PLEASE!

Overall, I loved season one and cannot wait for the second season. These are just a few of the questions I want answers to or things that I would like to see. What are you looking forward to being explored, or questions you want answered, in this upcoming season?

Jon Favreau is jumping back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe! He will be reprising his role as Happy Hogan from the Iron Man films in Spider-Man: Homecoming! How awesome is that!? I was wondering if we'd ever see Favreau in the role of Happy again, and it's great to know that he's coming back! This is such a pleasant, exciting, and unexpected surprise.

There's no word on how big of a part he will play in the story, but whether it's big or small it will be great to see Favreau back in the MCU. We'll continue to keep you updated on any additional information regarding Happy or any other elements from the film as they come in.

Favreau will next be seen on the big screen starring opposite his long time friend Vince Vaughn in the film Term Life.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will have a very heavy John Hughes influence, and the story centers on Spidey dealing with the perils of high school while battling supervillains and being a superhero in New York. Joining Holland in the film is Michael Keaton who will be playing the Vulture, Michael Chernus as the Tinkerer, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, and Donald Glover. Reprising their roles from Captain America: Civil War, we have Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May.

Watch: Over 80,000 Dominoes Fall to Display Characters From SUPER MARIO WORLD

There's something hugely cathartic and primally satisfying about watching 81,032 colorful dominoes fall to reveal scenes from Super Mario World, and luckily, YouTuber TheDominoKing is here to serve that up directly to us in this video. This is actually a screen link video, which means that each setup was filmed individually and then edited together to make it seem like one long, connected piece, but the fact that it wasn't technically all connected in no way diminishes the awesomeness of this display, which took an entire month to complete. Enjoy!

Metallo Cast for Season 2 of SUPERGIRL

Wow, here's something I didn't expect to see in Supergirl! EW reports that Frederick Schmidt has been cast as Metallo for the upcoming second season of the series. Metallo will be featured in at least two episodes this coming season.

For those who may not remember, Metallo is the cybernetic robot who depends on Kryptonite as a power source. He was once a human but was turned into a monster by military testing.

The news comes on the heels of the announcement that Tyler Hoechlin will be playing the role of Superman, and other character cameos include Miss Martian, Lena Luthor, and Lynda Carter portraying the President of the United States!

Supergirl may be moving to CW but man they are really pulling out all the stops for season two! I don't know about you but I think I'm going to have to make time for this series on my fall schedule. Season two premieres October 10th on CW.

Concept Art of Dwayne Johnson's JUMANJI Character "The Smoldering Dr. Bravestone"

concept-art-of-dwayne-johnsons-jumanji-character-the-smoldering-dr-bravestone3

Dwayne Johnson has released a piece of concept art giving us our first look at the character he'll be playing in the upcoming Jumanji sequel. The name of his character is Spencer, a.k.a. The Smoldering Dr. Bravestone.

Johnson makes a funny observation in the caption for the photos in which he states, "not sure where my pecs went." That was the first thing I noticed in the art. I've never seen The Rock so flat-chested! The rest of the note is as follows:

This is gonna be fun.. Me, @kevinhart4real, Jack Black, @NickJonas and the Ginger Assassin @karengillanofficial can't wait to "play the game that plays you". #JUMANJI #DrBravestone #KingOfTheSmolder#TheAdventureContinues 💀
* JUMANJI Costume Designer Laura Jean Shannon

Comingsoon also offers some additional insight on the film regarding the Bravestone/Spencer character. The site says that they've found videos of actors auditioning for the part of Spencer, who apparently discovers Jumanji. This is a conversation between Spencer and another character in the film from these audition tapes:

“This is Jumanji… It’s sort of mythical among gamers, supposedly all the copies were destroyed because people would just get too into it.”
“Too into it?”
“People thought it was dangerous or something, this was a long time ago, in the ’90s during all the parental warning crap. People were paranoid.”
“What are those?”
“Avatar names, you pick a character and you’re that one for the game.”

So they speculate that Johnson's character Dr. Bravestone is the in-game avatar of Spencer. They also make a point of noting that in the scene being read, "it doesn’t seem like the Jumanji the characters discover is the board game as seen in the 1995 original film, but perhaps a video game version or an all-new board game."

Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher, Sex Tape) is directing the film from a script written by High Fidelity and Con Air scribe Scott Rosenberg. I hope this movie turns out to be good.

A new image has surfaced from the upcoming Power Rangers movie featuring the whole team decked out in their battle suits. The image above is our most detailed look yet at the costumes that were created for the film. We've previously seen a side shot of the team and also this image here, which was touched up with photoshop.

The more I see these suits the more I warm up to them. I believe these are the best photos of the costumes that we've seen so far. These latest images offer us a closer look at the costumes and you get to see the real grit and details of them. Cool stuff!

Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

The Rangers you see here include Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, and Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger. Elizabeth Banks also stars in the movie as the main villain, Rita Repulsa, and Bryan Cranston is playing Zordon.

The Power Rangers will jump into action when the movie is released on March 24th, 2017. The photos here come from the Brazilian Licencing Expo via Mega Power Brazil and CBM.

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 2 Teaser Features Einstein, Looks Better Than Last Season

For a show that was about time travel, Legends of Tomorrow really disappointed me with how little they jumped around last season. I wanted more episodes where they traveled to the future and saw grizzled Oliver Queen! There's only 30 seconds to this new promo, but it looks to me like they'll be doing a lot more of that this season. That can only be a good thing, right?

If nothing else we'll apparently get to see Dr. Stein deck Albert Einstein in the face! That alone is worth the price of admission for me.

Season two of Legends of Tomorrow begins October 13th.

Robbie Amell may have had a short-lived time on The CW, but he's found a home on Netflix. The actor will be starring in the upcoming sci-fi Netflix exclusive film ARQ. From the looks of it, ARQ looks like Groundhog Day and whatever they're calling that Tom Cruise film that came out a couple years ago had a baby. The premise isn't exactly original, but the trailer looks decent enough. Check it out below and watch it on Netflix September 16th.

Kids watch a lot of commercials on television, a lot more than we see as adults. If you don't want your kid knowing every hot new toy on the market by heart, have them stream Netflix instead! A new report from Exstreamist says that the average kid between 2 to 18 watching a little under two hours of streaming a day are missing as many as 150 hours of commercials a year! That's 6 days of your child's life they aren't being bombarded with ads!

So next time someone criticizes you for how much Netflix you let your kid watch, scream in their face AT LEAST THEY AREN'T A SHEEP! I'm sure they won't bother you anymore after that.

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE Prequel Novel Synopsis Offers Some Interesting New Details

An official synopsis for James Luceno’s upcoming Star Wars novel Catalyst has been released online and shared by Stitch Kingdom. Catalyst serves a prequel novel that leads up to the events of Lucasfilm's upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The story dives into the Rogue One mythos and offers concrete details on some of the characters and their relationships with each other. The synopsis alone offers some very interesting information that you'll want to check out if you don't mind a few possible SPOILERS:

War is tearing the galaxy apart. For years the Republic and the Separatists have battled across the stars, each building more and more deadly technology in an attempt to win the war. As a member of Chancellor Palpatine’s top secret Death Star project, Orson Krennic is determined to develop a superweapon before their enemies can. And an old friend of Krennic’s, the brilliant scientist Galen Erso, could be the key.
Galen’s energy-focused research has captured the attention of both Krennic and his foes, making the scientist a crucial pawn in the galactic conflict. But after Krennic rescues Galen, his wife, Lyra, and their young daughter, Jyn, from Separatist kidnappers, the Erso family is deeply in Krennic’s debt. Krennic then offers Galen an extraordinary opportunity: to continue his scientific studies with every resource put utterly at his disposal. While Galen and Lyra believe that his energy research will be used purely in altruistic ways, Krennic has other plans that will finally make the Death Star a reality. Trapped in their benefactor’s tightening grasp, the Ersos must untangle Krennic’s web of deception to save themselves and the galaxy itself.

I just want to point out a couple of things that this description reveals. First of all, this confirms that Jyn Erso's father, Galen (Mads Mikkelsen), is involved with the creation of the Death Star. This has been rumored for some time, but now that rumor is a fact.

The other fascinating thing I want to point out is that Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), the main villain of Rogue One, actually rescued Galen, his wife, and Jyn from Separatist kidnappers. That gives Krennic and Jyn a very deep and personal history. He saved her life, she owes him his allegiance for that, but they end up being enemies. That makes for a pretty intense dynamic! That alone makes the Rogue One story that much more exciting. It's cool learning all these little layers to the characters we didn't know before.

Catalyst is currently available for pre-order and will be released on November 15th, 2016. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters on December 16th, 2016.

New GOTHAM Season 3 Promo Spot Reveals Killer Croc!

$

A new promo spot has been released for Gotham offering fans a little tease of what we can expect to see in season three, which is the "Mad City" season. The promo is set to a cover of Metallica's song "Nothin Else Matters," and we get to see the return of several old villains from the series as well as a couple quick shots of a new addition. It appears to be a young version of Killer Croc, and James Gordon attempts to fight him, but it doesn't look like he stands a chance. We also get our first footage of the new and older version of Poison Ivy.

As a fan of the series, I'm excited to see where season three takes these characters, and I'm looking forward to the new ones that will be introduced.

With Season Two’s thrilling conclusion, Detectives Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock remain at the forefront of the fight against crime in this dangerously corrupt city. Throughout the past season, Gordon’s moral compass wavered more than ever, as villains emerged from the city’s darkest places. With the help of Hugo Strange (guest star BD Wong), a brilliant psychiatrist secretly conducting horrifying experiments for Wayne Enterprises’ black-ops program, Indian Hill, familiar faces arose, including Azrael, formerly Theo Galavan (James Frain); Mr. Freeze (guest star Nathan Darrow); and Fish Mooney (guest star Jada Pinkett Smith). Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne, with the help of his trusted butler and mentor, Alfred Pennyworth, and his ally at Wayne Enterprises, Lucius Fox, found out there are more secrets to uncover regarding the Waynes’ murders.
Heading into Season Three, GOTHAM will continue to follow the evolving stories of the city’s most malevolent villains: The Penguin; Edward Nygma/The Riddler; Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman; and Barbara Kean. GOTHAM also will dive into the origin stories of The Mad Hatter and the Tweed Brothers, and will peel back the curtain on the Court of Owls.

Gotham returns to Fox Monday, September 19th.

Dwayne Johnson Almost Starred in a Hard R Adaptation of SAINTS ROW with Dan Trachtenberg at the Helm

$

With Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell, and several more video game movies currently in development, it's proof that Hollywood has shifted their attention to video game adaptations in hopes that they finally figure out how to make great films out of them. Only time will tell if they succeed.

Turns out there was a feature film adaptation of Saints Row that was in development from video game developer THQ. They had a "strong script" written by Peter Aperlo (Watchman: The End is Nigh, 300: March to Glory) with producers Lloyd Levin (Boogie Nights, Watchmen, United 93), and Andrew Cosby (Haunted, Eureka, 2 Guns) leading the charge.

This was being developed as a hard R adaptation, which is what you'd expect from Saints Row, and Dwayne Johnson was interested in starring in it. They were also looking to bring on 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to helm the film. According to Fandom, the film "felt like a modern-day Escape from New York, only bigger and with that Saints Row attitude."

Aperlo opened up about the film in an interview with the site and revealed all kinds of details. He talked about his approach to the film explaining:

"The first treatment had a new character initiated into the Saints via a reality show, a sort of urban Survivor with real bullets. (I believe I even had Jeff Probst get his head blown off at one point.) New gangs were moving into town, and the character was joining up to get revenge for the death of Carlos in SRII, thinking the Boss was responsible. Anyway, the producers liked it but felt we needed to go back to more of an origin story to get an audience used to the Saints and what the franchise would become.
"So, our plot ended up hitting a lot of the same notes as SRII, with the Boss as a Count of Monte Cristo figure coming in to reclaim what was once his. Throw into the mix Dane Vogel wanting to convert a chunk of Stilwater into a private prison (something that’s still relevant today) and a lot of over-the-top action and darkly humorous social commentary (a la the original RoboCop), and that was essentially our SR."

He then went on to reveal that Johnson wanted to be a part of the project and star in the film, but the hard R rating proved to be a problem. The screenwriter explained:

"Dwayne Johnson was very interested at one point. One of the worries, for me anyway, of having a big star like that, was that we’d have to tone things down. This was going to be hard R, balls to the walls. Sure enough, I was asked to prepare a draft that was PG-13. Soften the violence, no nudity, only one “f***” allowed. If you’ve played the game, you’ll know how hard that would be and still keep it SR. I couldn’t even use the “Phuc Mi Phuc Yue” Vietnamese Seafood sign I wanted to have!

"In the end, they couldn’t get anyone to bite and THQ imploded soon after. The IP got sold off and the new owners didn’t seem interested in making a movie. It was frustrating because the process was so fun, to be immersed in that world of larger-than-life gangstas and corrupt corporate tools. A little cartoony, sure, but we had something to say, and this was one movie that I really wanted to see up on the big screen."

It sounds like they had a good handle on what they wanted to see in this movie. It's a shame that this version of the film will never happen now. With this kind of talent, this Saints Row movie could have been badass.

Below you'll find some concept art for the film that was created by Clay Staub.
