New LUKE CAGE Video Talks About Music and The Show's Connection To Hip-Hop

0
0

You can expect a lot of hip-hop music to be at the forefront of Marvel and Netflix's Luke Cage. In addition to the soundtrack, the score will also have a very hip-hop feel as well. With help from guys like Method Man, A Tribe Called Quest, and A$AP Ferg, it sounds like this score will be just as awesome as the tunes we've heard so far.

A bulk of it is hip-hop, but it looks like jazz, R&B, and some other genres make their way into the mix as well. Personally, I haven't been displeased with anything I've heard from the videos so far, and this one is no exception! Check it all out in the video below.

Luke Cage premieres September 30th on Netflix.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman Clean Up Well in New SHERLOCK Season 4 Photo

We know that there's a chance season 4 of the amazing BBC series Sherlock could be its last, but if that does end up being the case, at least it appears to be going out with a bang. (For the record, I'm guessing it'll stick around for at least one more season after that.)

In any event, stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are lookin' slick in this brand new promo photo for the upcoming fourth season. Is it just me, or is Watson's hair more gray than it has been in the past? Maybe Sherlock has been stressing him out more than usual lately — or maybe it's caused by added stress due to the fact that he and Mary are having a child this season?

Promising laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases...series four will begin with the nation’s favourite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge - becoming parents for the first time.

Season 4 is set to debut sometime in 2017.

Jacob Tremblay is Terrifying in Trailer For SHUT IN

Well, there goes any notion I had that Room star Jacob Tremblay is cute. Naomi Watts and Charlie Heaton are also in tow for Shut In, a story about a desperate mother and an evil child. When her son is put into a vegetative state after a car accident that also kills her husband, a child psychologist adopts a foster child who is presumably evil.

Really we can't be sure of anything watching the trailer as it seems there's more going on here than meets the eye in this supernatural thriller! I will say this movie really set itself up for success with its casting line-up. To get America's cutest child actor to play something scary and the perturbed teen from Stranger Things in the same movie?! Plus Naomi Watts, but you know...she's always a big deal.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. Provided they don't go the way with the plot that I think they could go, I believe this one will be a big box office seller. Watch the trailer (via USA TODAY) and watch out for it in theaters November 11th.

Netflix Announces Talk Show With Bill Nye The Science Guy

Netflix and Bill Nye The Science Guy are teaming up for a "talk show." Bill Nye Saves The World will tackle science and its impact on politics, culture, and society in general. Variety reports the show is slated to begin in Spring of 2017. Nye issued the following statement:

“Since the start of the ‘Science Guy’ show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science. Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little."

I'm sure if nothing else, Nye will definitely make waves when his show premieres! Whether that's a good or bad thing, we will find out. Sounds like Netflix is trying to make their own Last Week Tonight and I don't know if Nye has the comedic chops of John Oliver!

Video: Fans Act Out The Entire First Season of STRANGER THINGS in Three Minutes

Stranger Things has dominated this summer in a huge way, and though there was a period of time when I thought maybe the entire internet (GeekTyrant included) was going a little overboard with all of the coverage, this morning's announcement about a confirmed second season and learning more details about it has made me come all the way back around to being super excited about the show again.

So Stranger Things mania continues in full force, and I want to share this video with you from the comedy group Superfruit (via LS), who, with what appears to be a budget of approximately $30, have recreated the entire first season of the show in three humorous minutes. Enjoy. (Warning: major spoilers ahead.)

CBS Adds "Ad Free" Option To Streaming That Still Has Ads

For an extra $5 a month, you can pay for an "ad-free" version of CBS All Access that will still have ads. Variety reports that although the network is promoting its upgraded subscription will be "free of ads," you'll still most certainly see them on the service. While you'll be able to watch your on-demand shows without advertisements (minus promotional cut-ins...which many would consider ads), the live TV service will still feature the commercials you see on television.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect CBS to change the way they do their broadcast television, but it sounds like this "upgrade" just means "a few less ads than you had before."

I hate to beat a drum like I'm bashing it, but I still think it's bull s*** this new Star Trek series is exclusive to their streaming platform! Especially when I get the news that the series will be heading to Netflix in other countries! I'm hoping with their continuing issues that CBS just throws their hands up and gives people what they want...but that's not likely.

The Nazgûl Loom Over Frodo in Cool New THE LORD OF THE RINGS Art Print

I've always loved the idea of the Nazgûl in The Lord of the Rings. Like The Terminator, one of their key traits is that they will never stop hunting their prey...ever. That's a truly terrifying notion, especially for some little hobbits who are way out of their depth.

/Film has debuted a couple of great new art prints featuring these shadowy Ringwraith badasses from artist Karl Fitzgerald for NYC's Bottleneck Gallery, one of the coolest pop culture galleries in the country. This is the first of many officially licensed prints coming up from them that will be based on Warner Bros. film titles. (That also includes DC properties, so expect some awesome stuff on that front soon.) First up is Fitzgerald's regular edition:

Screen print 24 x 36 inches Numbered edition of 325 $50

Screen print
24 x 36 inches
Numbered edition of 325
$50

And here's the black and white variant:

Screen print 24 x 36 inches Numbered edition of 150 $60

Screen print
24 x 36 inches
Numbered edition of 150
$60

/Film says the prints go on sale tomorrow, Thursday, September 1st, 2016, at 12pm EST at BottleneckGallery.com, so bookmark that page and jump on that immediately if you want one of these bad boys to hang on your wall.

The Live Action FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST Movie Has Completed Filming

0

After 3 months of filming, the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist film has wrapped, according to Crunchy Roll. Filming began in Italy in June and then moved to Japan for the final half. We reported on the film earlier this year when the first pictures of the cast began to surface, but haven't heard much since.

Previous reports indicated that the film would be heavily focused on the manga rather than the acclaimed television shows. I'm still leery about live action anime, as I haven't seen any that I thought were particularly good, but I really did love the Fullmetal Alchemist series! I have my fingers crossed that this one will not suck!

Celebrate The 15th Anniversary of BAND OF BROTHERS With This Video Tribute

The team at TheGaroStudios, who have created a bunch of cool Game of Thrones tribute videos recently, turned their attention to another beloved HBO property: Band of Brothers. The miniseries celebrates its fifteenth anniversary on September 9, 2001.

If you haven't seen this show, you owe it to yourself to watch it. It's not only one of the greatest shows of all time, but it's also maybe the single best piece of media that exists about war. The scope of it is incredible, and even though it has incredible actors in it (and a ton of famous people have cameos or small roles), it completely sucks you in to the point where it almost feels like watching a documentary. It's unbelievably good, and earns the highest recommendation possible from me. Watching this tribute video makes me want to go back and watch the whole series again.

Craig Robinson and Adam Scott Teaming Up For "Comedic X-Files" TV Series GHOSTED

0

Craig Robinson and Adam Scott co-starred in Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and for years they appeared (separately) during NBC's comedy line-up in The Office and Parks and Recreation. Now Deadline reports that the two are joining forced for a new show for Fox called Ghosted that's being described as a "comedic X-Files."

Tom Gormican (That Awkward Moment) is the mastermind of this show, which "centers on Leroy Wright (Robinson), a cynical, hilarious skeptic, and Max Allison (Scott), a genius “true believer” in the paranormal, who are hired by the Underground Investigative Service to look into the rampant “unexplained” activity in Los Angeles — all while uncovering a larger mystery that could threaten the existence of the human race."

Gormican will write, while Robinson and Scott will executive produce and star. This sounds like a potentially hilarious show, and I love the idea of these two guys headlining a series together, so I'm excited for this one. What do you think?

Watch: Disney's ZOOTOPIA Recut as a Crime Thriller

0
0

Walt Disney Animation's Zootopia surprised me with its use of allegory about race, and I thought the film handled the sensitive topic extraordinarily well. But what if all of that was stripped away, and the movie was a cop-centered crime thriller that just happened to feature animated characters? That's what CineMash's new re-edit imagines, and since the actual movie has a ton of procedural elements to it anyway, there's a lot for them to work with here.

Side note: if you haven't seen Zootopia, for whatever reason, please do yourself a favor and check it out. If you've seen it, avoid The Secret Life of Pets and watch this again.

Natalie Dormer Joins Mel Gibson and Sean Penn in THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN

0

Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games star Natalie Dormer has scored one of the female leads in The Professor and The Madman, a movie about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary that's being headlined by Mel Gibson and Sean Penn. THR has the breakdown of the story:

Gibson will play Professor James Murray, who in 1857 set about compiling the OED, one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken. Penn will play Dr. W.C. Minor, who submitted more than 10,000 entries but also was an inmate at an asylum for the criminally insane.
Dormer will play a widow whose husband was killed by Penn and whose family he wants to help. A complicated romance ensues.

Complicated, indeed. Sounds bizarre, but that seems to fit pretty well with this whole movie, which seems like a really strange project to begin with.

Farhad Safinia, who wrote Apocalypto for Mel Gibson back in 2006, is directing this project, which Gibson has been trying to launch since 1998.

I'm really hoping this ends up being a juicy role for Dormer, and I can't wait to see her dig into some big parts as Game of Thrones comes to an end. Even if she turns out to be not much more than a token wife character here, this movie should get a lot of attention because of its...let's call them "volatile" leading men, and either way, she's trying to make her own luck by co-writing and starring in a revenge thriller called In Darkness that sounds pretty great.

Games To Get: ABZU is a Visual and Auditory Masterpiece

Netflix Hates Your Cargo Shorts

0

The debate about whether it should be socially acceptable for guys to wear cargo shorts has been raging for years, but it may have finally come to a head now that Netflix has inexplicably weighed in with their thoughts about the functional but fashion-unfriendly clothing items. I was firmly on #TeamCargoShorts for years (what can I say, I loved having that room in the pockets), but I think it was once I turned 30 that I finally decided to let go of my old ways and move on.

I'm still not sure why Netflix decided to get in on this discussion, but the final text that appears in this video makes it seem like they're pretty serious about it.

Video Essay Digs Into The History and Versatility of Bugs Bunny

Kaptain Kristian's latest video dives into the origins of one of American animation's true icons: Bugs Bunny. The YouTuber details how Bugs has been able to evolve over the years as different creatives put their touch on him, and how even though he's the corporate mascot of Warner Bros., he hasn't become neutered like Disney's global mascot, Mickey Mouse. Bugs exudes a sense of effortless cool, and this video gives us a sense of the people who imbued the character with that sensibility. Take a look:

Intense Trailer for Nicolas Cage's WWII Film USS INDIANAPOLIS: MEN OF COURAGE

0
0

I've been fascinated with the WWII story of the USS Indianapolis ever since I first heard about it when Quint recalled the story in Steven Spielberg's Jaws. After that, I researched the hell out of it and hoped that one day it would get its very own movie. Well, that movie has been made. It's called USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, and it stars Nicolas Cage as Capt. Charles Butler McVay.

McVay was sent on a top secret mission with his crew to deliver the parts of the first atomic bomb. It was on the way back from delivering those parts when they were attacked by Japanese submarines and the ship went down in the middle of the ocean.

Because the ship was without an escort, the Indianapolis was not reported missing until four days later. Of 1,196 crewmen aboard, approximately 300 went down with the ship, while the rest faced exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning and shark attacks as they waited for assistance. Only 317 sailors survived, and McVay was court-martialed, then exonerated more than half a century later.

The film was directed by Mario Van Peebles (Empire, Once Upon a Time), features Tom Sizemore, and co-stars Thomas Jane as the pilot Chuck Gwinn, who spotted the crew of the USS Indianapolis on the fifth day after it sunk.

There's no word on when the film will be released, but I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Watch the TRANSFORMERS Band The Cybertronic Spree Perform the Classic "Dare"

If you're a fan of the original animated Transformers: The Movie, you've got to watch this video in which a Transformers-themed band by the name of The Cybertronic Spree perform the classic song "Dare" by Vince DiCola and Stan Bush. As you can see, the band awesomely dresses up as characters from the 1986 movie. I've never heard of this band until now, but I'm an instant fan! I also included another video of the band performing the song "Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way." Enjoy the videos!

Fox Is Developing a King Arthur Cop TV Series Because Hollywood Is Crazy

0
0

Fox has come up with a crazy idea for a TV series based on King Arthur with a twist. The twist is, it's a cop show. The series is called Camelot, and according to THR, it "reimagines the legendary stories of King Arthur in a police procedural." The report goes on to offer up the following plot summary:

When an ancient magic reawakens in modern-day Manhattan, a graffiti artist named Art must team with his best friend Lance and his ex, Gwen — an idealistic cop — in order to realize his destiny and fight back against the evil forces that threaten the city.

Camelot was created by Dan Frey and Ru Sommer, and they will write and produce the project with Gail Berman and Joe Earley. This series seems like it will follow the same kind of formula that we've seen with Sleepy Hallow and Lucifer, only this one will focus on the legendary King Arthur, and it sounds completely bonkers.

King Arthur is hot right now as we've got a new Guy Ritchie film coming out soon called King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and then there's Transformers: The Last Knight, which will implement the legend of Arthur into its story. Now we've got Camelot

This is a crazy idea that could turn out to be fun and entertaining or a complete dud. What do you think of this King Arthur cop series?
