10 Co-Stars Who Loathed Each Other While Working on Film and TV Projects

0
0

There’s been a lot talk recently regarding the feud between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel while shooting Fast 8. Johnson had some harsh words for his co-star calling him a "chicken shit" and a ”candy ass.” The two actors have since buried the hatchet and are getting along again. A studio source told THR:

"What happened is over, and no one expects there to be any lingering effects. When it comes time to promote the movie, this will have no bearing."

These two actors aren’t the only ones that have had issues while shooting a film or TV project. There are several others, and I thought I’d look up a few of them. I’ve come up with seven feuds between actors, and a few of them were pretty surprising.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams - The Notebook

10-co-stars-who-hated-each-other-while-working-on-film-and-tv-projects1

These two actors actually dated for awhile after they made this movie, but it wasn’t smooth sailing at first. Gosling hated working with McAdams, and one point he wanted her kicked off the set. In an interview with VHI, director Nick Cassavetes recalled the story:

“Maybe I’m not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me, and there’s 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, ‘Nick come here.’ And he’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.’
“We went into a room with a producer; they started screaming and yelling at each other. I walked out. At that point I was smoking cigarettes. I smoked a cigarette and everybody came out like, ‘All right let’s do this.’ And it got better after that, you know? They had it out… I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open. The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.”

Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker - Star Wars

10-co-stars-who-hated-each-other-while-working-on-film-and-tv-projects3

As most of you already know, Kenny Baker recently passed away. This is the man who brought R2-D2 to life in the Star Wars films, and he will be missed. R2-D2 and C-3PO kind of had a love hate relationship with each other, not only in the movies but in real life as well. Baker thought Daniels was kind of rude. In an interview with Hollywood.com Baker said:

“Anthony doesn’t mix at all—he keeps himself to himself. He never wants to have a drink with any of us. Once when I said hello to him he just turned his back on me and said, ‘Can’t you see I’m having a conversation?’ I was blazing with rage. It was the rudest thing anyone had ever done to me. I was furious. It was unbelievable.”

In a separate interview with UK’s The Mirror, Daniels was asked about this experience and he said:

“I never saw him. I mean, R2-D2 doesn’t even speak. He might as well be a bucket.”

Whoa! They obviously had a frosty relationship. In case you’re wondering what Daniels had to say about Baker after he passed away, he posted this on Twitter:

"Sad to hear of Kenny’s passing.1 of the truly original cast, so famed for his iconic role as R2. He'll always be remembered by so many fans."

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson - The X-Files

10-co-stars-who-hated-each-other-while-working-on-film-and-tv-projects6

These two actors has amazing chemistry together on screen in The X-Files, but off screen, after spending so much time together, it seemed they started to get annoyed with each other. In an interview with Metro, Duchovny said:

“Familiarity breeds contempt. It’s nothing to do with the other person. All that fades away and you’re just left with the appreciation and love for the people you’ve worked with for so long. We used to argue about nothing. We couldn’t stand the sight of each other.”

Anderson wasn’t a big fan of Duchovny either, especially when she found out he was getting paid twice as much as she was. When talking to The Telegraph she said:

“Was it sexism? Maybe. It’s like the way we were directed by the studios, I was to walk behind him, never side by side. I mean, that is fucking priceless when I think about it now. When we would get out the car and walk towards the house I would have to be behind him, even though I had equal dialogue.”

The two have obviously made up since they gave these interviews and enjoy working together. They recently did six new episodes of The X-Files, and it’s looking like they’ll be back for more!

Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy - Lawless

10-co-stars-who-hated-each-other-while-working-on-film-and-tv-projects7

LaBeouf tends to go a little nuts while getting into character in the films that he stars in. With Lawless the actor said he had a rough time bonding with Hardy. Things got so heated that LaBeouf straight up punched Hardy out. When talking to SF Gate, LaBeouf said after that Hardy “never did that roughhouse stuff with me again.”

Hardy even admitted it during an interview with Den of Geek. When talking about the incident he told them:

“I got knocked out by Shia LaBeouf, actually. [It was] behind the scenes. No, he did. He knocked me out sparko. Out cold. He’s a bad, bad boy. He is. He’s quite intimidating as well. He’s a scary dude… He just attacked me. He was drinking moonshine. I was wearing a cardigan, and er, went down. I woke up in Pnut’s [Hardy’s trainer’s] arms.”

So LaBeouf is obviously an actor you don’t want to screw with.

James Franco and Tyrese Gibson - Annapolis

10-co-stars-who-hated-each-other-while-working-on-film-and-tv-projects8

James Franco went full on method acting when he worked on director Justin Lin’s Annapolis. The movie told the story of a young cadet at the U.S. Naval Academy, played by Franco, who doesn’t get along company commanding officer, who was played by Gibson. Real life wasn’t much different.

Apparently while they were shooting, Gibson wasn’t a big fan of Franco’s method acting. Franco went all out on him while they were shooting the boxing match scenes, and he was allegedly really punching Gibson. He told Franco to calm down and back off, but that didn’t help. Franco just kept wailing on him. During an interview with Elle, Gibson was asked whose house he’d blow up, and this was Gibson’s answer:

“James Franco. James Franco is a method actor. I respect method actors, but he never snapped out of character. Whenever we'd have to get in the ring for boxing scenes, and even during practice, the dude was full-on hitting me. I was always like, ‘James, lighten up, man. We're just practicing.’ He never lightened up.”

Franco later apologized to Gibson, telling GQ in a separate interview:

“I take full blame for any problems on that film. If he had a bad experience working with me, I was probably a jerk. I was not purposely cruel to him, but I was probably so wrapped up in my performance that I was not as friendly as I could have been.”

It seems like method acting turns everyone who practices it into a jerk.

Zany Full Trailer for BATMAN: RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS Animated Film with Adam West

A new full trailer has been released for the fantastic looking animated film Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders! Not only does the quality of the film look great, but it also features the voices of Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar, who are reprising their roles as Batman, Robin, and Catwoman. This latest trailer gives us out first look at the villains in the story including The Joker, Riddler, and Penguin.

I love the movie pays tribute the classic 1960s TV series, and it’s fun to see that look and charm brought back to life in an animated form. I can’t wait to watch this thing and see how it turns out.

"It’s back to the 1960s as Batman and Robin spring into action when Gotham City is threatened by a quartet of Batman’s most fiendish foes – Penguin, The Joker, Riddler and Catwoman. This time, the four Super-Villains have combined their wicked talents to hatch a plot so nefarious that the Dynamic Duo will need to go to outer space (and back) to foil their arch enemies and restore order in Gotham City. It’s a truly fantastic adventure that will pit good against evil, good against good, evil against evil … and feature two words that exponentially raise the stakes for both sides: Replicator Ray. Holy Multiplication Tables!"

The film will be released on Digital HD starting October 11th, and it will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on November 1st, 2016.

New Details Revealed About Black Widow’s Past in the MCU Should Be a Movie or Netflix Series

0
0

Ever since Scarlett Johansson was introduced as Black Widow in Iron Man 2, we’ve gotten little bits and pieces about her past. Our best look at her past so far in the films was given to us in Avengers: Age of Ultron when we saw how the Red Room shaped a young Natasha Romanoff. We also got a little background on an early version of the program that Natasha was a part of in Agent Carter.

One of the most intriguing details about Natasha’s past comes from the novelization of Captain America: Civil War. Movie Pilot managed to get a copy of it, and it reveals one of the experiences that she had to endure to survive the program, and these little details could seriously be its own movie!

This is the excerpt from the book in which Black Widow shares her experience with Captain America:

Natasha studied Cap’s expression of resolve. Finally, she said, “In Russia, in the Red Room, there were dozens of us. All girls, all young. We lived together. They let us be friends. Then they dropped us in the tundra, two weeks’ walk from home, with just enough supplies for one of us to survive.”
Cap looked at her, understanding her meaning.
“Don’t let them push us into the cold,” she said.

She doesn’t go into any details, but that’s still freakin’ intense! Dozens of girls who were friends dropped into a frozen wasteland where only one of them is forced to survive?! We obviously know who that was. That’s a basic plot to an incredible story that would make for one insanely awesome movie! Hell, that could even be a full on limited series on Netflix. That story could easily be drawn out into ten episodes. I watch the hell out of it!

It’d seriously be a waste of an idea and a shame if that never happened.

Fan Art Shows the Return of Superman in JUSTICE LEAGUE

Since Justice League has been in production, we’ve learned that Superman will return with long hair and wear his black suit. Artist George Evangelista is an illustrator and concept artist who took these two elements and whipped up an image of Henry Cavill’s return as Superman in the upcoming Justice League movie. There’s more fan art out there that envisions the return of Superman, but this is the best one I’ve seen. The artist says:

“I have much bigger plans for this version of Superman coming very soon. Despite the negative and mixed reviews DC has been getting lately I am still pumped to seeing more of the Universe.”

I'm looking forward to seeing this new piece he’s working on. I'm hoping for the best for Zack Snyder's Justice League movie. I'm sure the movie will be entertaining and action packed, but I'm not expecting to be blown away by it. I'm curious about seeing Superman's new look.

Emma Stone Sings in New "Audition" Teaser Trailer for LA LA LAND

emma-stone-sings-in-new-audition-teaser-trailer-for-la-la-land

One of the things that I love most about this La La Land movie is that it has the same feel and vibe as the films of classic Hollywood, only it's set in modern day. The movie comes from writer and director Damien Chazelle, who previously directed Whiplash, which is a favorite film of mine. If you haven't seen Whiplash yet, you should watch it because it will blow you away.

La La Land stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and this latest teaser trailer, which is called "Audition," features Stone singing a lovely song of the same name. This looks like it's going to be a delightfully elegant movie, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the story plays out.

The film tells the story of Mia (Stone), "an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams."

Venice festival director Alberto Barbera had this to say about the film:

“La La Land is a surprising tribute to the golden age of American musicals, from An American in Paris by Vincent Minnelli to New York, New York by Martin Scorsese. It is a film that does not merely reinvent the musical genre, it gives it a brand new start. If Whiplash was the revelation of a new filmmaker, La La Landis his definitive, albeit precocious, consecration among the great directors of Hollywood’s new firmament.”

La La Land also stars J.K. SimmonsJohn LegendFinn WittrockSonoya Mizuno, and Rosemarie DeWitt. It will get a limited theatrical release on December 2nd and will then open wide on December 16th.

Fred Savage, Keegan-Michael Key, and Cobie Smulders On Board For Netflix Series FRIENDS FROM COLLEGE

Netflix is getting some TV series veterans for its latest comedy about life after graduation. THR says Friends From College has acquired Key and Peele's Keegan-Michael Key, How I Met Your Mother's Cobie Smulders, and The Wonder Years' Fred Savage to star in a show that follows the middle-aged life of Harvard graduates. The show will be headed up by Nick Stoller who directed Forgetting Sarah MarshallNeighbors and Judd Apatow's cancelled television comedy Undeclared

Stoller and his wife will be developing the eight episode series which chronicles a group of Harvard graduates and the success (or lack of) they are experiencing in their post-graduate lives. The show is scheduled to begin production this fall.

I'm excited about this show! I'm fresh off a Wonder Years binge and I've always loved Key and Peele! I'll learn to forgive HIMYM someday.

Creepy New STRANGER THINGS Concept Art Offers Alternate Version of Barb's Last Scene

Warning: spoilers ahead.

Another piece of concept art has surfaced for Stranger Things and this one features a version of Barb's demise that's different than what made the final cut. This vision of her death is even more jacked up than what we ended up seeing in the series. Check it out:

new-stranger-things-concept-art-highlights-barbs-horrific-death

The art was created by Aaron Sims, and in an interview with ScreenCrush, he explained what the original plan for Barb's death was:

“Based on our original discussion with the Duffers on this design, we wanted to go really graphic with it to highlight the horrific aspects of Barb being eaten, and something then growing on top of her—thus, the ribs poking out of her stomach in the first shot.”

There's another piece of concept art that you can see below with a few different changes. For example, she's got a spider crawling out of her mouth. Sims explained why:

“In the script for that episode, there was specifically a description of a spider coming out of her mouth, which we incorporated into the design of that second shot.”

So why didn't they go with these designs of Barb's death in the series? It was because she was too unrecognizable. Sims went on to say:

“It wasn’t an issue of it being too graphic, but rather, that the viewer needed to see something that was very recognizably dead.”

I think anyone paying attention while they were watching the show would have recognized who it was, but the Duffer Brothers wanted to be safe. The creators of the series previously talked about Barb and how there will be justice for her in the second season. You can read about that here.

NARCOS Season 2 Has a Poster and an Exciting New Trailer

0

We have a fresh new trailer for Narcos for you to feast your eyes on! If you aren't familiar with the real life events of Pablo Escobar, you probably want to avoid that hashtag, although I think it's safe to say most people watching know how it ends from either hearing about it or seeing it play out on Entourage. Here's the poster for the upcoming season:

Pablo is out of prison and on the run for what we can assume will be the last season that his character is featured in. If I had to guess, I would say this season all leads up to the final showdown at his stronghold, but you never know — they could stretch it out.

I hope the show continues post-Pablo and features some of the other battles between the DEA and the cartel during this period, as I've really enjoyed it thus far! Who else is on board with that idea? Thanks to Coming Soon for the tip!

Maisie Williams Hypes GAME OF THRONES Season 7: "Nothing Will Prepare You For This"

When it comes to Game of Thrones, it's pretty common for cast members to hype the heck out of an upcoming season. But when that happened previously, fans who had read George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels at least had an idea of what events the cast members were teasing. Now that we're far enough along in the show to be almost entirely beyond the events of the existing books, we're all back to the wild west of having to use our imaginations and wonder what they're talking about.

Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) is the latest to start up the hype train for the upcoming shortened seventh season, going on a Twitter run yesterday afternoon that has fans cursing the long wait until the show returns to HBO:

I'm steeling myself for the inevitable deaths of characters I really care about. Feel free to sound off in the comments with who you think is going to die in season seven.

Odin is Looking Rough in New THOR: RAGNAROK Set Photo

Yesterday we were treated to some set photos of Thor: Ragnarok which featured both Thor and Loki in civilian clothes. Today, Collider points us to a picture of Anthony Hopkins once again portraying Odin, but with a radically different look:

He's a hobo! I'm guessing there will be some jokes to be had with that one. Side note: Anthony Hopkins is really good at looking gross.

I figured most of this story was taking place on another planet aside from Earth, but now I don't quite know what to believe. Joey pointed me to a post we did earlier this year which rumored Odin to have fled to Midgard to pose as an "end is nigh" hobo to warn humans about the upcoming Ragnarok (aka apocalypse). Looks like that rumor checks out now! Thor: Ragnarok opens November 3, 2017.

Crazy Russian Superhero Film GUARDIANS Gets Full Trailer

Earlier this year we brought you news that a Russian Avengers-type film was on its way to theaters overseas. Today, we bring you the first full trailer for that film! I'm not completely sure what everyone on the squad's abilities are because I was too concerned there's a HUMANOID BEAR ON THE TEAM.

Here's a description for the film:

Set during the Cold War, a secret organization named "Patriot" gathered a group of Soviet superheroes, altering and augmenting the DNA of four individuals, in order to defend the homeland from supernatural threats.

The group includes representatives of the different nationalities of the Soviet Union, which each one of them have long been hiding their true identity. In hard times, they settled down to business and gather to defend their homeland.

The effects on this film actually look pretty impressive. Check it out:

The film is out in Russia in February 2017. It's unlikely we will see it in the States, but hopefully Netflix gets ahold of a subtitled copy!

Idris Elba is Training To Become a Professional Fighter For Discovery TV Series

0
0

Actor/producer/DJ/all-around-badass Idris Elba is about to add one more line of badassery to his resume.

Deadline reports that Elba is gearing up to star in a new show for Discovery called Idris Elba: Fighter, in which he will "undertake the physically and mentally demanding task of training to become a professional kickboxer — ultimately competing against a seasoned brawler in a no-holds-barred bout."

During training, Elba discovers what it really takes to be a professional fighter and will push himself to the limit to overcome pain and fear, master specialized techniques and skills, and ensure both his body and mind are fit. He will receive mentoring from former world champions, trainers and coaches, and travel the world to incorporate unorthodox training methods and regimens to increase his chances for the main event.

Awesome. Most actors wouldn't dare do anything like that in fear of hurting themselves or jacking up their faces so they might not be able to work immediately afterwards; Elba apparently doesn't give a crap about that. He's wanted to do this for a long time, so he's freakin' doing it.

“It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to fight professionally. Entering the ring to further test myself as a human being is a challenge I have been looking to take on for quite some time.”

This is going to be a three hour long docuseries that's shot on location in the UK, Thailand, Japan, Cuba, and South Africa. The show will air early in 2017 in both the UK and the United States, and even though I don't regularly watch Discovery, this seems like something worth tuning in for.

Amazon Developing TV Series Based On THE DEPARTED

The iconic mob vs. cop film The Departed is getting reworked into a television series on Amazon. Obviously, if you're familiar with the film, none of its stars will be reprising their roles. Deadline reports the new series will shift locations from Boston to Chicago and feature a young cop who infiltrates a Latino gang.

Here's hoping it's good! The Departed was the first rated R film that I paid to see in theaters and probably one of my favorite movies, so I have high expectations. We will keep you updated as we learn more details!

Watch: THE REVENANT Reimagined as an 8-Bit Video Game

0

It's been a while since I've seen an 8-Bit Cinema video from Cinefix, but they're back now putting their spin on Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu's meditative revenge thriller The Revenant. I love the way they depict the early fight sequence between Leonardo DiCaprio's character and the bear, and there are a few other nice detailed touches in there for those who really remember the specifics of the film. I loved the actual movie, but I have to admit there's something extremely appealing about seeing it in this form (maybe it's the two minute runtime). Let us know what you think below!

Charlie Cox Reveals The Insanely Tiny Connection Between DAREDEVIL and LUKE CAGE You Might Not Have Noticed

0
0

At this point, everyone knows that Netflix and Marvel TV's superhero shows take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While nothing in those series regularly appears on the big screen, they utilize Marvel Studios' method of crossing characters over into each other's shows to create a sense of interconnectedness and to build out a larger world on television, which will soon culminate in the upcoming crossover series The Defenders. But a new detail revealed by Daredevil star Charlie Cox indicates that even more thought goes into the shared universe than I thought.

At Wizard World Chicago (via io9), Cox explained just how serious the people at Marvel are about making connections between shows:

“One thing that I thought was really cool is that in the second season [of ‘Daredevil’], we had a scene together and in the storyline we hadn’t seen each other for a long time and it takes place at the hospital. Rosario had — Claire Temple has a cut in her eyebrow. So I was like, ‘What is that?’ Apparently it had nothing to do with our world but it’s part of ‘Luke Cage.’ The timeline had been thought through and worked out so that whatever’s going on in ‘Luke Cage,’ which we don’t know, I don’t know, somehow at some point during that show, the next day she’s in the hospital talking to me.”

I don't know if I ever would have noticed such a small detail, but I agree with Cox — that is super cool that people care that much about continuity within this universe that they're willing to think these things through that far in advance and incorporate it into filming before the other show even starts shooting. We'll see the other side of this particular equation when Luke Cage hits Netflix on September 30th.

Fun Supercut Celebrates Some of Cinema's Best Weirdo Characters

The bizarre tics of strange supporting performances are often ignored or overlooked in favor of more traditional work from headline-friendly superstars, but there's something charming about those actors who build a career out of playing total weirdos. This supercut, from editor Jon Lefkovitz, celebrates a few of these moments in cinematic history in a delightful way that's sure to put a smile on your face. I thought I was the only one who appreciated that very specific moment in Back to the Future when George McFly says he'll finish Biff's reports and "run 'em on over first thing tomorrow" and does that weird full body contortion/quasi-dance move, but that — and many other moments from a ton of great films — appear here. Let us know your favorites in the comments.

Patrick Wilson to Play Liam Neeson's Sidekick in Action Thriller THE COMMUTER

0
0

I feel like Patrick Wilson is one of those consistently solid actors that not enough people appreciate for being as talented as he is. He regularly churns out strong work and has settled into a nice stage in his career playing meaty supporting roles, and it appears that streak is going to continue: he's just been cast in a new action thriller.

THR reports that Wilson has joined the cast of The Commuter, the latest Liam Neeson-led movie directed by Unknown, Non-Stop, and Run All Night helmer Jaume Collet-Serra. The movie "centers on an insurance salesman (Neeson), in the midst of his daily commute, who is forced by a mysterious stranger to uncover the identity of a passenger before the train’s last stop." The "mysterious stranger" is being played by Vera Farmiga, who has worked with Wilson on the two Conjuring films, so this will mark a cool little reunion for the two of them. Wilson himself has a "key role," playing "the salesman’s trusted friend who helps him along the way."

As you may have gleaned, I'm a fan of Wilson's work, so I think he'll be a nice addition to this movie; his presence (as well as Farmiga's) should help add a hint of legitimacy to a story with a fairly ludicrous concept. Filming is happening now in London, so I expect this one to hit theaters sometime early next year. Hopefully it'll be fun...or at least bonkers enough to stand out in some way.
