Michael Pena Confirmed To Appear in ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

THR reports that actor Michael Pena will be returning as Scott Lang's friend Luis in the sequel to Ant-Man, which is being called Ant-Man and the Wasp. The film is scheduled to be in theaters on July 6, 2018.

So far for the film this means we have Pena, Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Sharon Stone, and maybe Michael Douglas (provided Marvel gets him a contract) appearing. Production on the sequel begins early next year, and I'm excited for this one! Let's hope it can live up to the success the first film had!

Horrify Your Children With This BB-8 Fire Pit

If you're the type of parent who falls squarely in the middle of a Venn diagram of people who enjoy fire pits and people who enjoy messing with young kids, you may be in the market for this BB-8 fire pit from Alex Dodson and Burned By Design. The UK company has taken the lovable droid from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and charred him to a metal crisp, with the character now serving as an awesome-looking casing for flames in your backyard. Considering how beloved BB-8 has been since even before the film came out last December, seeing him motionless and on fire might be difficult to explain to a terrified child who may think the First Order got their hands on him and dumped him to Earth.

BB-8 isn't the only droid they've adapted into a fire pit — they've converted R2-D2 into one as well.

KIDNAP Trailer: Halle Berry Chases Her Son in What Should Be Called CAR CRASH: THE MOVIE

Relativity Media has had some extreme financial troubles over the past year or so, and right now they're slowly climbing back from bankruptcy. But if they keep releasing crap like this, it probably won't be long until they're right back in it again.

Here's the first full trailer for Kidnap, a new thriller starring Oscar winner Halle Berry as a frazzled mother who will do anything to get her kidnapped son back. If you're a fan of car crashes, this movie looks like it's right up your alley.

Yikes. Berry has been in some truly bad films over the past few years, and it seems like her character here could use some help from her character in 2013's The Call:

Kidnap hits theaters on December 2, 2016.

Trailer Finally Shows Up For Toy-Inspired MAX STEEL Movie

0

If you're someone who was ultra excited that your favorite '90s toy Max Steel was getting his own movie, I'm afraid I've got some bad news for you. There's a trailer, and it's not great, it's not terrible, it's not humorous...it's just there.

I'm not quite sure what to say about this one. Visually, it looks cool, but if there was an award for underwhelming trailers, this one would be impossible to top. Hell, even these late '90s Spanish commercials for the toy are more jam-packed with action than this!

I'm still not entirely sure why this film is being made. From what I remember in the U.S., Max Steel was not even a big deal for kids. I'm guessing he was a much bigger property internationally? That might explain the Japanese subtitles in the official trailer.

What was Mattel thinking with this one?! Max Steel releases October 21st.

William Shatner Apologizes For STAR TREK V: "I Ran Out Of Money"

William Shatner is sorry that you hate Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. For those who don't know, Shatner himself directed the film in about the worst way anyone could. The film was shot in the midst of a writer's strike, and Shatner, not being an experienced filmmaker, blew most of the film's budget prior to finishing the film. This lead to a very anti-climatic ending that still is pretty awful to this day. Now Shatner is finally speaking out about it to Entertainment Weekly:

I got the chance to direct a several-million-dollar movie, Star Trek V, and I did not get the help I needed in allocating my budget, so when it came to shooting the ending — needing a good villain and lots of computer graphics — I had run out of money. Sorry about that. [Laughs.] I had to use footage that I had already shot — and spit on it a lot. I wanted to give [the audience] earth-breaking granite monsters spewing rocks and fire. Instead, I had a few pebbles in my hand that I threw at the camera.

Basically, they shoot a God in a ship in the face and kill it. Why does a God need a starship, you ask? It's a great question:

At least he's not trying to defend it! Maybe they can go back and fix it by just deleting this film from the timeline.

Dwayne Johnson's JUMANJI Movie is a Sequel, Not a Reboot

One of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's numerous upcoming projects is a "re-imagining" of the 1995 film Jumanji, and for the longest time, we thought that meant it was a reboot. But in a couple of new Instagram posts, the producer/actor makes it crystal clear: this is not a reboot, but a "continuation."

Finished strong and on to the next. That's an officially wrap on #FastAndFurious8. Thank you to our director @fgarygray for the vision and execution. Thank you UNIVERSAL for being tremendous partners as always, thank you to all my fellow co-stars for the daily effort and grind. Scott Eastwood you handsome sumbitch! Natalie Emmanuel I have a cold Budweiser ready for you and Tyrese Gibson you still have the biggest smile and forehead I've ever seen.😂 And a huge THANK YOU to our hard working production crew - the backbone of our business. Your kind words meant a lot to me last night - thank you! In the end, we all rallied, as great teams do, kicked ass and will deliver an amazing movie to the world. Proud of our entire FAST FAMILY. And now in two weeks I'll reunite with ol' friends Kevin Hart & Jack Black and we have the honor to introduce a whole new generation to the amazing world of #JUMANJI. *(for the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome JUMANJI story). It's also crazy to me how much me, Kev and Jack look like triplets when we're together. 👶🏽👶🏻👶🏿. Man this is gonna be FUN. #WheelsUp #ThatsAWrap #FromFastAndFurious #StraightIntoJumanji #BigBrownBaldTattooedMan #DarkChocolateComedicRockStar #BrillaintCrazyCurvyCaucasion #TheseHashtagsAreRidiculous #INeedSleepAndCARBS #ButIWillSettleForTequila

Yo.. Lots of positive 👍🏾 chatter now on something I should've clarified months ago when we announced we were making JUMANJI. This new movie will NOT be a remake or reboot of the original. It will be a CONTINUATION of the awesome JUMANJI adventure 20 years later. As a producer on this movie and someone who loves the original, you have my word we'll honor the legend of "Alan Parrish" and properly introduce a whole new generation to the fun and crazy JUMANJI universe that so many of us loved and grew up on. Our director Jake Kasdan and lead producer Matt Tohlmach are focused and ready go. They also have no f*cking idea what they've gotten themselves into by hiring Me, Kevin Hart and Jack Black aka "The Cray Cray Triplets" as the stars of this movie.😂💀 Shooting begins in 4 weeks. And on a personal note, it's such a cool thing for me to bring the production of this movie to Hawaii. The positive ripple effect it has on local businesses and families in terms of creating jobs and additional income makes me very happy. I grew up on the island thru hard times and good times, so it means a lot to this local boy. Hell, I used to steal a Snickers candy bar every day from 7-11 when I walked to the gym as my pre workout meal when I was 14yrs cause I was too broke to buy one. When I return to Hawaii, I will go back to that 7-11 (on Kapiolani Blvd) and finally buy that Snickers bar after all these years. Then I'll proceed to my psychiatric therapy session cause clearly I'm still messed up over that broke time in my life. #JUMANJI #HAWAII #SonyPictures #SnickersForTheWholeCrew

Sounds good to me. Generally speaking, I prefer when filmmakers try to expand on the worlds/universes we've see in a film instead of just doing a straight remake or reboot, because it shows that they care enough about the stories that came before it to actually incorporate those events into their new vision. I'm not sure if this Jumanji sequel will be any good, but at least it sounds like it'll pay homage to the character Robin Williams played in the '95 movie and it (hopefully) won't just be a beat-for-beat retread of what we've already seen.

Jumanji (it'll probably receive a subtitle before too long) hits theaters on July 28, 2017.

Ian McKellen Turned Down Over $1 Million to Officiate Sean Parker's Wedding Dressed as Gandalf

Looks like money can't buy everything.

A new report from the Daily Mail says that back in 2013, Napster founder Sean Parker offered Sir Ian McKellen 1 million pounds to officiate his The Lord of the Rings-themed wedding dressed as Gandalf, but McKellen said no. McKellen himself recounted the details:

"I was offered one-and-a-half million dollars to marry a very famous couple in California, which I would perhaps have considered doing but I had to go dressed as Gandalf. So I said, 'I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings.'"

It would have been incredibly easy for McKellen to bank an extra 1.5 mil by doing this, and it's actually kind of nice to see someone retain a little bit of dignity and integrity and turn down a substantial amount of money. That being said, I can't blame Parker for trying.

BEN-HUR Flops With $11 Million Opening Weekend

0
0

The Ben-Hur remake has flopped with an overwhelmingly disappointing $11 million opening weekend. THR reports the film was budgeted at $100 million and finished fifth, just ahead of Pete's Dragon this weekend. The film was outshined by Suicide Squad (in its third week), Kubo and the Two Strings, War Dogs, and Sausage Party, which all finished ahead of it.

I assume they were trying to pull in lovers of old Hollywood and an older movie-going audience who may not see some of the aforementioned films, but it doesn't look like that plan was too successful. While the film did majorly flop in America, it did pull in about $30 million internationally, so there could be hope yet it makes its money back. They won't be getting my money, but what about you?

Humor: Your Editing Lacks Continuity

If you're someone who has a great attention to detail, you probably go nuts watching films. Even the best films have continuity errors. Most are small, like a drink having more liquid than it did a previous scene, but others are far more noticeable. This video from Jacks Films was originally posted a few years ago, but it's trending on Reddit right now and I hadn't seen it before, so I figured it was worth sharing. In it, he pokes fun at the difficulty of keeping continuity in film in the humorous short below.

Is Jason Momoa's Khal Drogo Coming Back to GAME OF THRONES?

0
0

In case the question mark wasn't enough, let me just clarify right up front that the thesis of this article is heavily speculative. OK, now that that's out of the way...

Guys. Is Jason Momoa going to reprise his role as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones? I think enough time has passed since the show first began airing that it's OK to mention that his badass warrior character died in the first season, and the last time we saw him was in a brief vision Dany had back in season two:

Momoa revealed on his Instagram page that he's in Ireland visiting showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss:

Ireland I AM HOME. @Guinness hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha😜😜😜😜👿👿👿👿👿 so happy to be back. ALOHA DROGO

A photo posted by Jason Momoa (@prideofgypsies) on

Cheeeeehhoooooooooo. @Guinness in Ireland. Drinking mothers milk With my brothers @captainriff dan and david. Love ya GOT greatest show on earth ALOHA DROGO

A photo posted by Jason Momoa (@prideofgypsies) on

Those "ALOHA DROGO" captions may be just the actor messing around and having fun, but they could also be a harbinger of the character's return. If Drogo does come back to the show, it would likely be in another vision. Jon Snow was resurrected last season, but I'm guessing Drogo has been dead for too long to be brought back now (and now that I think about it, it would be pretty damn awesome to see him as an undead warrior fighting alongside the Night King...sorry, I was just thinking about about Jon vs. Drogo fight scene for a second. It should go without saying that probably won't happen). But with Dany finally approaching Westeros and seemingly ready to take on anyone who stands in her way, I can see there being a scene where she looks back at how far she's come and interacts with the ghost of one of her true loves in the process.

What do you think? Is this Momoa just hanging out with old friends, or is there a chance we see him in Drogo's war paint and braid once again?

The Guardians Get in Space Fight With Massive Alien in Awesome New Concept Art From GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is one of my most-anticipated films of 2017, and I didn't even get the chance to see the footage from the movie that played at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. By all accounts, that footage blew the roof off of Hall H, and we're slowly starting to see some teases of what we can expect from the new movie.

Writer/director James Gunn took to Facebook to reveal Andy Park's spectacular new concept art from the film that appears in Empire Magazine:

I absolutely loved the first Guardians movie and I have incredibly high hopes for the sequel. If it approaches the scale that we're seeing in images like these, I have a feeling Gunn is going to be able to deliver in a big way. We already know he'll be able to depict the interpersonal dynamics of the team and tug on the heartstrings if the situation calls for it, but images like this hint at a much crazier, much larger playground for the characters (and look at the adorable little Baby Groot hanging out in the bottom left corner).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.

ROGUE ONE Gets More Empire Covers With Alan Tudyk's K-2SO and Ben Mendelsohn's Orson Krennic

Last week, I wrote about Felicity Jones on the cover of Empire Magazine's new issue promoting Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and in that article I mentioned that the magazine planned a couple more reveals for fans in the coming days. Those reveals have now occurred, and we have not only two more alternate covers, but also a new image feature Jones' Jyn Erso, Diego Luna's Captain Cassian Andor, and Alan Tudyk's droid character K-2SO.

We expect some of the details from the magazine's coverage will start hitting the internet this week, and we'll be sure to keep you posted about anything particularly interesting.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16, 2016.

This SUPER MARIO BROS. Watch Costs $27,000

We've written about a bunch of cool geek-centric watches over the years, and now Kotaku points us to this Super Mario Bros.-themed piece designed by Swiss watchmaker Romain Jerome. This sucker will set you back a staggering $27,000 — presumably because there are only going to be 85 of them made. When something is released in a limited run that small, I can understand why the price skyrockets like that. Would I pay nearly 30 grand to own this thing? Absolutely not. Frankly, it's not even that cool — if you're gonna drop that much for a ridiculous watch, I'd recommend this Star Wars piece instead.

THOR: RAGNAROK — Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh Will Reportedly Compose The Score

0

I've always wished the Marvel Studios movies could have established instantly iconic musical themes for their characters. There was such a huge opportunity there to create cues for these larger than life heroes that are just as recognizable as John Williams' best tunes, but I think the studio really dropped the ball in this department. Thankfully, they hired Michael Giacchino to compose the score for Doctor Strange, and their latest hire also has the potential to give us something memorable: The Wrap reports that Kevin Feige and company have hired Mark Mothersbaugh to compose the score for Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok.

Mothersbaugh is well known as the frontman for the band Devo, but he's also been composing music for movies since 1987's Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise. Some of his notable credits include Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic, Lords of Dogtown, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the Jump Street films, and The LEGO Movie. Here's hoping he gives the movie — which I'm getting more excited about by the day — the kind of out-of-this-world vibe it needs to do more than just blend into the background.

Two Sinister New Promo Spots for BLAIR WITCH

When I first learned that we were getting a new sequel to The Blaire Witch Project I was pretty excited. I was a big fan of the original film, but the first sequel that followed sucked ass. This latest sequel, which is called Blair Witch, looks great, though! I’ve heard that it’s actually really freakin’ scary and that it’s a solidly made film. I honestly wouldn’t expect anything less from director Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Next).

We’ve already seen one trailer for the film, but today we have two promo spots from Lionsgate that you can check out below. One of them gives us some background on the Black Hills Forest and the search for the Blair Witch. After all of the positive hype I've been hearing, I can't wait to see this!

A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James' sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.

Blair Witch will be released on September 16th, 2016.

Pokémon Is So Popular Right Now That There Are Now Pokéburgers

With the popularity of Pokémon on the rise, I’ve seen a ton of people and businesses trying to capitalize off of it. In Sydney, Australia a Down N’ Out CBD popped up, and they are selling Pokéburgers.

The burgers include Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Charmander and they are available in “limited supply” until Sunday, September 3rd for $15 ($11.44 US).

According to Nerdalicious, the flavors and ingredients in the burgers are inspired by the character, and each burger is served with a “Pokéburg” card that explains what’s inside. Gotta eat them all!

Guy Ritchie’s SNATCH Will Be a TV Series Starring Rupert Grint

0
0

Guy Ritchie's classic film Snatch is being adapted into a series for Sony’s streaming network Crackle. I’m a huge fan of the film Snatch, and I even had a role in the film’s marketing campaign before it was released in 2000. I never thought I’d see it end up being a series, but it’s happening, and Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint has landed a lead role. According to Deadline:

Snatch will carry the spirit of the setting in the film, while creating a new world with new characters. Inspired by a real life heist in London, Snatch, centers on a group of twenty-something, up-and-coming hustlers who stumble upon a truck load of stolen gold bullion and are suddenly thrust into the high-stakes world of organized crime. The boys must quickly learn to navigate the treacherous waters of London’s underworld as rogue cops, gypsy fighters, international mobsters and local villains descend.

Sounds like it could be fun! I’m happy that it’s not going to be a direct remake and tell the same story. This seems like it’s going to expand more on world that the film set up. According to the report, Grint will play the “dynamic, frustratingly chaotic and utterly posh con man, Charlie Cavendish.” Dougray Scott (Fear the Walking Dead) will play Vic Hill, “who continues the con game from inside prison,” and Ed Westwick (Wicked City) plays night club owner Sonny Castillo.

The series starts shooting next week in Manchester, England, and there will be ten episodes total in the first season. The show is set to premiere sometime in 2017.
