Jon Chu Talks G.I. JOE: RETALIATION 3D and MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE

G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon Chu recently did an interview with MTV in which he talks about the film's 3D conversion, as well as the other 1980's film project he's working on, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

I really want to push how we use the 3-D. Especially since we pushed the movie date, I want to fulfill the promise to the fans that the 3-D will be great, and enhances the experience of the movie. So every step of the way, I’m in that room, watching… It’s hurting my eyes, but we’re getting it better, and pushing it further.

I'm not the biggest fan of 3D conversion, even with big films like The Avengers, it was actually kind of pointless. It's not like 3D makes the movie better. It just costs us more to go see it. Here he talks about working with 3D on his previous film Step Up 3D and the Justin Bieber 3D doc and how that helped.

So being around that (Shooting 3-D), I know what we are actually capable of doing. If we had shot it in 3-D, there’s a lot of things that we would shot in a 3D way. Fortunately, a lot of our shots, I guess it was in my brain anyway. We had a lot of depth in our shots, or let our shots play longer. For me, if we’re going to do this, we have to make sure it enhances the experience. That’s where we are right now, and it’s a slow painful process, to be honest!

He goes on to admit that there's still a few more things he's changing, in fact he wants to shoot some more stuff in 3D,

I’m trying to convince them to give me a couple days to do a couple of enhancements. But as of right now, we’ll see what they let me do. I really want to shoot some of the sections in 3-D to give it that edge… But we’ll see if time permits, and they’re down to do that.

The film is actually finished, but apparently this will give it a little more pop. I was excited for the new G.I. Joe movie! I was a bit disappointed that it didn't get released this summer -- when it was supposed to. Now I'm all worried the movie is going to suck. I hope it doesn't! I've just been hearing so many negative things. Now on to Masters of the Universe!

I’m really excited about that one! We’re really early in the process… We’re working on the script, to make it better and stronger. We’re designing a bunch of stuff. I learned on Joe that to make it right, you have to do a lot of experimenting first, and you have to trust that during the process you’ll find where the tonal line is… It’s so delicate.

As far as casting goes for the movie, Chu has no idea yet.

A lot of people ask, who are you going to cast? We’re not even there yet, we’re just trying to get the character of the movie down. This is one of the most fun parts, where all the possibilities are open, and we’re just playing in the sandbox.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is scheduled to hit theaters on March 29th, 2013. Are any of you still excited for G.I. Joe, or has that just faded away?

Best Baby Halloween Costume Goes to... This Kid's DeLorean Push Cart

'Wait a minute, Dad. Ah... Are you telling me that you built a DeLorean... out of a push cart?' No, this isn't a sequel to Back to the Future where Doc Brown figures out how to build time machines inside the human body making Marty McFly younger -- though, that's just a stupid enough idea that Hollywood might make it. *sssshhhh*

This is lil' Cooper, who just may have the coolest Halloween costume thanks to the creativity of his mom Cody. Not bad for Cooper's first Halloween, eh?

Theses photos show all the impressive details put into this modded out kid's push cart, complete with the "OUTATIME" license plate and modern dates on the control board sending this kid back to 1985. Cody's husband Jeremy added some sweet looking EL lights, and voilà! The only thing missing from the DeLorean? The Flux Capacitor! Not that anyone would see it, since it'd be behind the kid's back, but... how do you expect to time travel without one?

To check out more photos head to Cody's Flickr page (via Geekologie).

Here's a great new fake commercial for Wreck-it Ralph that focuses on the magical hammer used by Fix-It Felix, Jr. that fixes everything. The new spot fits right in with the other fake ads that have been released including 1982's Fix-It Felix Jr. and 1997's Sugar Rush Speedway, and another one for Hero's DutyThis was such a great movie, and I'm excited for you to see it. It's one of the best animated movies that Disney has made in a long time.

Wreck-It Ralph is set to hit theaters in 3D on November 2nd! Enjoy the latest commercial!

Wreck-It Ralph was directed by Rich Moore (The Simpsons) and will feature the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, Alan Tudyk, Ed O’Neill, Mindy Kaling, Adam Carolla, Horatio Sanz, Dennis Haysbert, Edie McClurg, Roger Craig Smith, Gerald C Rivers, Rachael Harris, Stefanie Scott, Reuben Langdon and Kyle Hebert

Here's the synopsis:

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore (TV's "The Simpsons," "Futurama") take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in "Wreck-It Ralph." Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," "Step Brothers") is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, "30 Rock"), the "good guy" star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he's tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he's got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV's "Glee") from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, "The Sarah Silverman Program") from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late?

Next 2 James Bond Films will Tell One Story

Earlier today we learned that John Logan would be writing the 24th James Bond film, but apparently he's also writing Bond 25 as well, and the two films will tell a single story. Looks like we're in for one hell of a James Bond epic!

According to Deadline he's already started writing the scripts. This would be the first time one story has been played out over multiple films in the 007 franchise. I imagine the studios will end up shooting the films back-to-back.

I'm looking forward to seeing what story they end up telling, but if it's covering two films we know it's going to be big. It will be interesting to see a Bond film actually end with a cliffhanger. Logan is a very talented writer that has worked on a ton of great movies in his career such as Gladiator, The Aviator, The Last Samurai, Sweeny Todd, Rango, Hugo and the upcoming Noah.

There's no word on if Sam Mendes will return to direct, but I hope he does. Especially after hearing that he's made the best Bond movie so far.

What do you think about this James Bond news?

SOUTH PARK Does The Avengers

For those of you who missed South Park last night, Matt Stone and Trey Parker "dressed up" as Kyle, Cartman, Stan and Kenny as The Avengers for Halloween in the episode "A Nightmare of Face Time". Here's a couple of screenshots showing them off in costume. In case you missed it, head on over to South Park Studios now to watch the episode!

Here's the synopsis for the episode:

The boys are all ready to dress up as their favorite foursome, the Avengers, for Halloween. After months of planning their costumes, at the last minute Randy tells Stan he can’t go trick or treating with his friends. Instead, Stan has to pitch in and help his father with a new business venture.

Paul Thomas Anderson Is A Fan of Nolan's Batman Films

0
0

Here's a cool little morsel for fans of Paul Thomas Anderson. The director of The Master, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and more has spoken out about Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, and surprisingly, he's a fan. Cigarettes and Red Vines has a transcript of a recent PTA interview (via Slashfilm) in which he said:

I’ve never really been asked to do [big tentpole blockbusters]. You look at what Christopher Nolan did with Batman, that’s like the meeting of the highest level of artistic skill & a kind of commerciality and appeal to a wide range of people which is what anybody would want. It’s kind of unparalleled actually, and they don’t come to me with those. And that’s alright.

Interesting. It seems like Anderson almost wishes that a studio would offer him a big project like that, but if he did take on a blockbuster tentpole, I can't imagine how it would end up. That's part of the reason everyone was so excited to see a Darren Aronofsky-directed version of The Wolverine before it eventually went to 3:10 to Yuma director James Mangold. How do guys who have made mostly arthouse pictures reconcile those sensibilities with big budgets and superhero storylines? Nolan has arguably done it best, and it's cool to hear that PTA recognizes the artistry in the work of his peer without acting pretentious and pretending like superhero films are below him in some way.

But hey, now that Nolan is stepping down from the director's chair in the Batman franchise, the slot is currently vacant. What do you think about the concept of Paul Thomas Anderson directing the next Batman movie?

Bill Murray Joins George Clooney's MONUMENTS MEN

FOX has teamed up with Sony Pictures to develop George Clooney's next film project Monuments Men. It was also revealed that Bill Murray has joined the cast of the film, which also stars Cate Blanchett.

Clooney is set to direct, star, and produce the film, which is based on the World War II novel by Robert Edsel. The story follows the art historians who landed at Normandy to rescue art looted by Adolf Hitler. In a previous interview the actor had this to say in a statement,

It’s an amazing story, and Grant and I are already thinking about how great the casting can be, and there’s also a great love story. Hitler was an art fanatic, and he stashed masterpieces everywhere. He hid 27 Rembrants in a coffin.

The love story part of the story will revolve around Rose Valland, who is a member of the French resistance that tracked the location of the stolen art.

Clooney said the book recounts a story not only largely unknown but also filled with fish-out-of-water intrigue. The group of 11 civilian art experts included Lincoln Kirstein, the founder of the New York City Ballet; George Stout, who worked at Harvard’s Fogg Art Museum; and James J. Rorimer, from the Metropolitan Museum.

The team had never trained for combat, and yet they faced live fire—two of them even died on the mission. Even though the experts were mere privates, they occasionally had to shout out battlefield instructions—'Don’t aim your tank over there, that’s the Leaning Tower of Pisa!' Clooney suggested—to preserve the works of art they were charged to find.

There's no word on who Murray will play in the film, but he's a great actor that will, like always, do a fantastic job! What do you think about the concept for this movie, and what do you think about Murray joining the cast?

Here's a description of the book:

At the same time Adolf Hitler was attempting to take over the western world, his armies were methodically seeking and hoarding the finest art treasures in Europe. The Fuehrer had begun cataloguing the art he planned to collect as well as the art he would destroy: "degenerate" works he despised.

In a race against time, behind enemy lines, often unarmed, a special force of American and British museum directors, curators, art historians, and others, called the Momuments Men, risked their lives scouring Europe to prevent the destruction of thousands of years of culture.

Focusing on the eleven-month period between D-Day and V-E Day, this fascinating account follows six Monuments Men and their impossible mission to save the world's great art from the Nazis.

What are your thoughts on Clooney's next film project?

How GHOSTBUSTERS Pissed Off One of the Greatest Sci-Fi Authors

0
0

Here's a fun little bit of trivia about Ghostbusters from Blastr. With all of the laughs and fun that Ghostbusters has brought us over the years, it's hard to believe that the sci-fi comedy classic could make anyone angry. But apparently, while filming on location in NYC, it pissed off a bunch of New Yorkers, including one of the world's greatest sci-fi authors, Isaac Asimov.

While much of the film was filmed in Los Angeles, most of the exteriors -- including the iconic Ghostbusters firehouse, and the shots at Columbia University -- were filmed in New York City. While filming the movie's final showdown atop a New York City apartment building in Manhattan's Upper West Side, the crew had to shut down traffic on several major Manhattan streets.

By the time they were done, half of midtown Manhattan was at a standstill, and unfortunately for the cast, one of the thousands of New Yorkers who got stuck in traffic was Isaac Asimov.

Asimov was so incensed by the delay in his commute that when he found out what was causing the holdup, he made his way to the film's set and vented his frustration to star Dan Aykroyd.

This would probably have just been a fun story to tell for Aykroyd, but according to co-star Harold Ramis, Aykroyd was such a huge admirer of the author that he was "crushed" by the incident. Since Asimov passed away in 1992, we're left wondering whether or not he ended up seeing the film and if he liked it.

New Photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger in THE LAST STAND

Lionsgate has released a new photo from Kim Jee-Woon's action film The Last Stand. It features bloodied up Arnold Schwarzenegger standing outside of a cafe. This looks like it's going to be a fun movie, and I'm excited to see Schwarzenegger blowing people away again. If you haven't watched the trailer yet, make sure to click here and check it out!

The movie also stars Zach Gilford, Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman, Rodrigo Santoro, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Eduardo Noriega, Peter Stormare, Harry Dean Stanton and Genesis Rodriguez

The movie is scheduled to be released on January 18th.

Here's the synopsis:

After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy.

With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow.  Cortez’ path: straight through Summerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement, including Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker) will have their final opportunity to intercept him before the violent fugitive slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately rallies his team and takes the matter into his own hands, setting the stage for a classic showdown.

Weta Installs Giant Gollum Statue at Wellington Airport

Here's a few photos of a giant Gollum statue that was set up and being displayed at New Zealand's Wellington Airport. I'm a huge fan of this Middle Earth franchise, and this thing is awesome!

Rob Gillies and Sarah Morris. Richard made a short speech to thank the team that made the incredibly realistic sculpture – a testament not only to their talent and hard work, but also to the technology and skills Weta has developed. He also thanked the “excellent” team at Wellington Airport, who have been a pleasure to work with in creating something that would bring delight to Wellington’s visitors. Airport CEO Steve Sanderson said the airport was proud to work with Weta and have such a magnificent sculpture on display. “Everyone will be amazed when they enter the terminal."

Maybe one day I'll make it out to New Zealand to see this in person!

Great New Trailer for THE BONES BRIGADE

0

Here's another great trailer for Stacy Peralta's latest documentary Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, which follows the rise of skateboarding in the 1980's. This was such an incredible documentary, and a must see for anyone that is a fan of Tony Hawk and the skateboarding scene. Hell, even if you're not, it's still an amazing documentary worth watching!

The Bones Brigade is a skateboarding team that was organized by 70's skateboarding legend and the film's director Stacy Peralta in the early 80's. He set out to start his own team of skaters, gathered together a group of no-name kids that had a deep passion for skateboarding, and mentored them to the top. This team produced some of the greatest, most legendary skateboarders of all time including Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain and Rodney Mullen, who I admired as a kid growing up in the 80's. These guys took skateboarding to a whole new level of awesomeness, brought the sport into the mainstream, and turned it into a booming business that they could make a ton of money from. For example, Hawk was pulling in $20K a month right out of high school. These were the people that invented modern skateboarding as we know it, and everything we know today, including all of the tricks and the language of the sport. You can read my full review of the film here.

Check out the new trailer below and make sure to watch the documentary when it becomes available.

Here's the Synopsis:

It's not a death metal band, an extreme diet club or historic dominoes association -- the Bones Brigade was a talented gang of teenage outcasts. Unmotivated by fame or popularity, they completely dedicated their lives to a disrespected art form. For most of the 1980s, this misfit crew headed by a 1970s ex-skateboard champion blasted the industry with a mixture of art and raw talent becoming the most popular skateboarding team in history. The core unit of the Bones Brigade built an empire that covered the world. They dominated contests, made hundreds of thousands of dollars, created the modern skateboard video, reinvented endemic advertising, pushed skate progression into a new era, and set the stage for a totally new form of skating called street style. There's nothing comparable in today's skateboarding.

Paralta also directed several other great docs that include Riding Giants, Dog Town and the Z Boys and Crips and BloodsMade in America. I'm not sure when or where you can watch this movie right now, but I'm sure it will pop up on Instant Netflix one day, and when it does, you need to check it out!

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark!

Have you ever heard of the creepy kids horror book series Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark? I grew up on these book growing up, and as a kid I thought they were pretty awesome. They definitely screwed with my head. The art created for the books were incredibly dark and terrifying.

I was talking with my brothers about these recently and thought I'd see if I could find them online, and thanks to Youtube all three of the audio books are available to listen to right now! Each videos also contains the art used in the books.

Finding these was actually really exciting for me, so I thought they would make a perfect post especially since Halloween is right around the corner! They may be a little cheesy now, but they're still fun, especially if you grew up reading the books or listening to the tapes. I hope you enjoy them!
