New Trailer for the Ridiculously Silly Looking Series Reboot of MACGYVER

new-trailer-for-the-awful-looking-series-reboot-of-macgyver3

CBS has released a new trailer for their upcoming series reboot of MacGyver. This is the first footage that I've seen from the show, and I've gotta say... I'm not impressed. The show looks bad. With director James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7) behind the project and even directing the pilot episode, I thought for sure it would at least look like a decent show, but nope.

One of our writers wrote up a piece about the footage that was screened at Comic-Con, and he hated what he saw. You can read his thoughts on the series here. It looks to me like the show is trying to be clever and witty, but it just comes off as being stupidly silly and ridiculous.

The series stars Lucas Till (X-Men: Apocalypse) in the role of MacGyver; Justin Hires will play Wilt Bozer, MacGyver’s roommate; Tristin Mays will play Riley Davis, who is a computer hacker; and George Eads (CSI) will play Lincoln, a conspiracy theorist who works for the government.

MacGyver will premiere on CBS on September 23th. Checkout the trailer for yourself and let us know what you think. Does it look like a show you might enjoy? Who knows, maybe it will end up being one of those "so bad it's good" kind of things.

Marvel Comics has released a new series of variant cosplay comic covers featuring cosplayers dressed up as their favorite superhero characters. Some of those characters include fan favorites such as Star-Lord, Silk, Gwenpool, The Punisher, Scarlet Witch, Dazzler, Miles Morales Spider-Man, Squirrel Girl, and more. Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor-in-Chief, had this to say about the cosplay variant covers:

“The response to our first set of Cosplay Variants was so incredible, we simply had to do a second wave. And, of course, we were able to find a great crop of cosplayers with some truly fantastic costumes. We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on an ever-growing community that continues to show love for us and our characters.”

You can check out the thirteen covers that have been released so far below. To see the last set of cosplay covers that were released, click here.

THE FLASH Director Hints That Cyborg May Not Appear in The Movie

Yesterday, word came out that Ray Fisher's Cyborg character — who we were first introduced to in a brief scene in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice — is apparently going to be a part of the upcoming The Flash movie that stars Ezra Miller and has Rick Famuyiwa lined up to direct. That news came from Variety (read: a largely credible source), and we'd previously heard that The Flash and Cyborg were going to be buddies in the DC Extended Universe, so everything made sense.

Except...well, I suppose there's a chance Cyborg won't actually be in the movie. Famuyiwa took to Twitter yesterday and got in on the "Says Who" hashtag action that was going around:

This could very well be the director just messing around and having some fun at the expense of the Trump campaign, but it could also be a hint that this info isn't true (or maybe was true in an earlier draft of the script, but is no longer true).

I'm guessing Cyborg is really in the movie, and Famuyiwa is just screwing with us. WB and DC have already adopted Marvel's method of including its characters in other franchise movies to create a sense of interconnectedness, and I don't see that trend stopping any time soon.

The STRANGER THINGS Cast Has Some Major Musical Talent

Netflix's Stranger Things has been the show of the summer, and as soon as I finished the series, I dove headlong into a ton of articles about it. One of the things I noticed in all of my borderline-obsessive reading was that a bunch of the kids who star in the show are talented not only at acting, but playing music or singing as well. So I wanted to give a quick breakdown of some of their musical acumen in case you weren't aware:

First up, Gaten Matazarro (Dustin). This dude has some serious chops and has appeared in Les Miserables on Broadway. Take a listen to him absolutely slaying the song "Bring Him Home" from that musical two years ago:

And here he is singing something a little more modern:

Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) has a whole YouTube channel devoted to her singing pretty awesome covers, but I think I like this one of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good."

She also does a pretty excellent version of Adele's "When We Were Young," which seems like a really difficult song to pull off.

Joe Keery (Steve Harrington) is the drummer in a Chicago rock band called Post Animal, and you can listen to a lot of their stuff on Bandcamp (via Vulture).

The awesomely-named Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler) took to Twitter the other day to share a quick video of him playing a cover of Nirvana's "Lithium," and he says he'll be putting a full cover song on his YouTube page soon.

Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers) is also a drummer, and he played for a band called Comanechi before breaking out in Stranger Things:

As for Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), he appeared as Young Simba in The Lion King on Broadway. Video of that performance is a little hard to come by, but there's always this gem in which he and Gaten tried to recreate the show's awesome instrumental intro with only their mouths:

First Footage From THE DARK TOWER Will Appear in October

You will get your first look at The Dark Tower footage sometime between October 29th and 30th, according to Slashfilm. The Stephen King book-turned-film is set to show its first footage at the Entertainment Weekly Popfest in Los Angeles. The reveal was teased in a description for the event, which will include:

James Corden, the host of CBS’ The Late Late Show; Oscar-winning actress & director Jodie Foster; First footage from Stephen King’s THE DARK TOWER; Emmy-winning showrunner Ryan Murphy and friends; live Anna Faris is Unqualified podcast recording; table read of a new episode from the cast of Happy Endings; a live musical performance by the cast of the CW’s Crazy Ex-girlfriend; live read with the cast of Bob’s Burgers; a conversation between husband-and-wife YA superstars Tahereh Mafi (SHATTER ME) and Ransom Riggs (MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN); author of the Outlander series Diana Gabaldon

I haven't even read the books and I'm pumped to see Idris Elba kick some ass! Maybe if we're lucky, it'll leak out before this two and a half month wait.

Jennifer Carpenter Joins BONE TOMAHAWK Director's New Film BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99

Last year's brutal cannibal western Bone Tomahawk was surprisingly my favorite film of the year (I'm not normally into cannibal westerns, but this is an outstanding movie), so I'm super excited to see what writer/director S. Craig Zahler does with his follow-up film. He's lined up a new movie called Brawl in Cell Block 99 with Vince Vaughn set to star, and you can read the synopsis here:

Zahler's script centers on a former boxer (Vaughn) whose life is crumbling: He loses his job as an auto mechanic and his troubled marriage is about to expire. At this crossroads in his life, he feels that he has no better option than to work for an old buddy as a drug courier. This vocation improves his situation until the day he finds himself in a gunfight between a group of police officers and his own ruthless allies. When the smoke clears, the man finds himself in prison in a no-win situation as his enemies force him to commit acts of violence that turn the place into a savage battleground.

Deadline reports that Dexter star Jennifer Carpenter has boarded the new movie, presumably in the role of Vaughn's character's wife. I generally like the actress (she was good in Dexter and the Quarantine remake), so hopefully she has something more to do than the typical nagging, complaining, worried routine that's become so unfortunately rote in these kinds of roles. (The female lead in Zahler's previous movie didn't have much to do, so maybe he's beefed up this role a little.)

Bone Tomahawk was Zahler's directorial debut, and I'm very interested to see how he handles a movie with a completely different tone. You can read my interview with him right here.

Marvel and Harley Davidson Join Forces To Create 27 Superhero-Themed Motorcycles

Marvel Comics has teamed up with Harley Davidson to create more than two dozen superhero-themed motorcycles, and most of these things are badass. Some, like the Spider-Man bike, are so colorful that they might get you laughed off the highway, but a majority of them are sleek, awesome, and just look freakin' cool. And isn't that half the reason to ride a motorcycle anyway? If you live in Australia or New Zealand, you can register to win one at the official site.

Check out the trailer below, and I'll put a few images under that so you can get a look at what they have to offer. Be sure to head over to the official site to get a much closer look at each of these, and to see the rest of the set.

Superman Dons The "Classic" Look in Picture From JUSTICE LEAGUE Set

$

A couple days after Henry Cavill teased the "Black Superman" suit, we get another set photo from Justice League that shows us a much more classical look for the iconic character. /Film dug up the photo which you can see below:

The first big thing you'll notice is he has the classic Superman curl! Maybe that's just what happens when people die for a little bit, but it looks like there's some semblance that DC will be returning to the classical look for Superman. One thing I also noticed was the color palette on his suit is a lot lighter, but then again it could always look like that and they just darken it in post production. If anyone involved with the film is reading this, I PREFER THIS COLOR! The darker colors aren't terrible, but this picture makes it feel like I'm just looking at a modernized Superman that I loved way back as a kid.

Even if the color doesn't change, I'm still a big fan of the classic hair. What about you?

Ash Choked and Lost The POKEMON League Again

The final match of the Kalos Pokemon League has concluded and after an intense battle between Ash Ketchum's Greninja and Alain's Mega Charizard...well, you can watch below.

It doesn't get more tragic than that, ladies and gentlemen. This marks the sixth time that Ash has competed and lost the Pokemon League. Could you imagine if ESPN existed in the Pokemon world? It would be devastating how the pundits would rip him apart! You would think he'd have a reputation for losing on an international scale by now!

Also, can we point out that he collapses in anguish for like three seconds before he's like "nah, I'm good." HE'S THAT USED TO LOSING, HE GETS OVER IT LIKE IT'S NOTHING.

Of course, Ash has done some other incredible things and seen basically every legendary Pokemon in existence, so I guess we can't say he's a complete failure. I'm guessing we won't see him win until the series ends and no one cares anymore.

Thanks to Kotaku for bringing us the awful news.

The Cast of ROGUE ONE Lines Up on Empire's New Cover

Empire has released a brand new cover featuring the cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, including Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso, Diego Luna's Captain Cassian Andor, Riz Ahmed's Bodhi Rook, Donnie Yen's Chirrut Imwe, Jiang Wen's Baze Malbus, and Alan Tudyk's droid character K-2SO.

There's not anything particularly exciting about this specific image, but two more covers are coming soon (one tomorrow, and one on Monday), and the magazine promises "unprecedented access to the war film transforming the Star Wars universe," so I imagine we'll be hearing a lot of new information from them in the coming days.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is being directed by Gareth Edwards, and the film hits theaters on December 16th. Catch up with everything we know about the movie right here.

Watch: Mario and Luigi Star in GOODFELLAS Parody

Martin Scorsese's classic gangster movie Goodfellas has been parodied countless times, but I've never seen one with this particular spin on it. Goodplumbas takes the familiar story and mashes it up with the Mario Brothers in the lead roles and characters like Peach, Daisy, and Bowser in supporting parts, leading to some fun twists on famous scenes you know from the real movie (the "what do you mean, I'm funny?" scene has an especially great pun).

Beware, this is NSFW for violence and language.

SUICIDE SQUAD's Jared Leto Joins BLADE RUNNER 2

$

Oscar winning actor Jared Leto has been added to the cast of Blade Runner 2. Variety reports that the Suicide Squad actor's role in the film is being kept under wraps, which isn't a surprise. Practically everything about this movie is a mystery — the plot, most of the characters, etc. — but we do know who's involved with making it, and that'll have to be enough until we find out more.

Harrison Ford (who seems really stoked about this movie) is reprising his role as Rick Deckard from the first film, and he'll be joined by Leto, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, MacKenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, and Dave Bautista. Director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners) is handling the directing duties on this one, reteaming with legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins. (Side note: Villeneuve's upcoming sci-fi film, Arrival, looks very intriguing.) Blade Runner 2 — or whatever it's eventually called — hits theaters on October 6, 2017.

What kind of role do you think Leto will play in the movie? And do you think he'll end up having more screen time in this film than he did as The Joker in Suicide Squad? I'm guessing Harrison Ford wouldn't react too well Leto's Method acting bullshit on set (can you imagine Ford's face if he received a dead pig in the mail?), so he'd probably be better off avoiding that type of behavior on this movie.

Jonah Hill Talks About How Martin Scorsese Gets The Best From His Actors

Jonah Hill appeared on HBO's Any Given Wednesday with Bill Simmons and told an awesome story about director Martin Scorsese. In the clip, he talks about how Scorsese helped him "get out of his own head" while they were filming The Wolf of Wall Street. Me trying to describe the story is an injustice to the way Jonah tells it, so I'll leave it to him. I will take this opportunity, however, to say that I've been watching this show from the start and Bill Simmons is one of the best interviewers on television! His show primarily focuses on sports, but I would say it bleeds over into most male interests in general. Check it out on HBO if you get a chance — or at least watch his Bill Hader interview!

Here Are The First Images From BLACK MIRROR Season 3

We've praised Charlie Brooker's twisted TV series Black Mirror a lot here on the site, and for good reason: it's an excellent show with pitch perfect casting, deep thematic resonance, and purposeful, artful direction that results in a show that's not quite like anything else.

We know that the third season is going to be split in two, with six episodes hitting Netflix this October and six more coming sometime in 2017, but now Brooker himself has revealed four new images from the first two episodes of the new season.

Take a closer look:

Black Mirror s3 2.JPG
Black Mirror s3 3.JPG
Black Mirror s3 4.JPG

The header and first image in the set above come from “San Junipero,” which stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis in an '80s-centered episode, and the last two are from "Nosedive," an episode that stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Alice Eve, and James Norton in a story about social anxiety. Rashida Jones and Mike Schur (Parks & Recreation) wrote the latter episode, which Brooker described as "kind of like a cheerful pastel nightmare," and that certainly looks accurate from those photos.

I don't know about you, but I'm really excited about the high quality talent Brooker has acquired for season 3, and I wish I was going to the Toronto International Film Festival, where these two episodes will premiere in September before they hit Netflix in October.

First Teaser Trailer For Jean-Claude Van Damme's Amazon TV Series, JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON

$
0
0

Amazon is trying to step up their game in the original series department, reaching out to movie star personalities like Woody Allen in the hopes that their new shows attract some attention. Well, the company has reached out to about as different a movie star from Allen as you can think of, action star Jean-Claude Van Damme, and he's starring in a new show called Jean-Claude Van Johnson in which he plays a...well, basically himself, but a real-life version of a lot of the kinds of characters he's played on the big screen. Check out the synopsis:

If you need to eliminate a political rival, debilitate a multinational corporation, or overthrow an entire government—and you need it done with the utmost secrecy—there’s only one person to turn to: one of the most internationally recognizable movie stars in the history of film. Jean-Claude Van Johnson stars Jean-Claude Van Damme (JCVD) playing “Jean-Claude Van Johnson,” a global martial arts and film sensation…and, operating under the simple alias of “Johnson,” the most dangerous undercover private contractor in the world. Lucky for the world’s bad guys, he’s been retired for years…unlucky for them, a chance encounter with a lost love is about to bring him back to the game…and this time, he’ll be deadlier than ever. Probably.

The show's first teaser trailer, however, doesn't tap into much of that plot at all. Instead, it's a much more subdued look at JCVD wandering around his house in a bathrobe, microwaving Pop-Tarts like a maniac (seriously dude, use a toaster!) and reading articles about Max Landis in Variety. It's...weird.

The pilot will be available to stream on Amazon Prime starting tomorrow, so we'll see if it gets a big enough response that the show gets a full season order.
