I don't know why this gave me the feels it did, but I got ridiculously emotional in my office today watching Dick Van Dyke singing in a Denny's! I never even liked the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but it's amazing to see a man of 90 still performing like he's in his prime. I can only hope I'm that healthy in my later years.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly Reteam For New Comedy HOLMES & WATSON

We may never see a sequel to Step Brothers, but stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are reuniting in front of the camera for a different kind of buddy comedy. Deadline reports that they'll star in Holmes & Watson, a new comedy for Sony Pictures that's inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. They're aiming for a PG-13 rating.

Ferrell will play Sherlock Holmes while Reilly will play his sidekick, Dr. John Watson. Back in 2008, the project was moving forward with Sacha Baron Cohen in the Holmes part and Ferrell playing Watson, but it's obviously taken on a different configuration in the intervening years. Etan Cohen (who wrote Tropic Thunder and directed Ferrell in Get Hard) is directing, and filming begins after Thanksgiving this year.

Deadline says that because Holmes stories are so popular right now, there's the hope that Sony and these filmmakers can just go headlong into a full-on comedic version with the audience already knowing who everyone is. Sounds like a recipe for a potentially hilarious riff on detective tropes, and I'm always down to see Ferrell and Reilly share the screen together, so I'm cautiously excited about this one.

The POKEMON Movie Will Be Written by GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and GRAVITY FALLS Scribes

Legendary Pictures is moving forward with the development of their Pokemon movie, and they are hiring Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor) and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) to write the movie.

The production company landed the rights to the Pokemon property in July, and the film will be based on the upcoming video game Detective Pikachu. Here's a description of that game:

The game follows a peculiar talking Pikachu who, despite not being as powerful and nimble as other Pikachu of his kind, is rather intelligent and claims to be a great detective. One day, Pikachu encounters a boy named Tim Goodman, who is able to understand what he is saying. Thus, the two begin working together to solve various mysteries revolving around Pokémon in the city.

I’m surprised they aren’t making a game based around Pokemon Go because that’s the hot item right now. I doubt that the upcoming Detective Pikachu game will be as popular.

Even though Pokemon Go is exploding, and the property has had a resurgence in popularity, I’m curious to see if this Detective Pikachu film will actually attract this new found audience or if it will just attract the longtime, hardcore Pokemon fans.

Only time will tell, but at least the film has got a couple of solid screenwriters to work on the project. Hopefully, they deliver a solid script.

Great-Looking Trailer for a Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Short Called LUNATIQUE

I don’t normally post trailers to short films. I’d rather just post the full short for people to watch, but sometimes one catches my eye and impresses me. That happened with this trailer for a post-apocalyptic sci-fi short called "Lunatique." I liked what I saw so much that I had to share it.

The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world and follows a lonely woman who is struggling to survive in the crazy world that is full of strange creatures. I really dig the gritty grey style, setting, and character design. It’s got a fun, retro kind of feel to it. It also features some impressive production design and VFX work.

This trailer may be for a short film, but it has the quality of a feature-length professionally made film. The movie was helmed by Brazilian director Gabriel Kalim Mucci, and I can’t wait to see the actual film! I’ll make sure to post it when it is available to watch online.

Check out the trailer and let us know what you think!

Cyborg Is Set to Appear in THE FLASH Solo Film

It looks like Ezra Miller’s The Flash will be joined by another member of the Justice League team in his solo film. According to Variety, Ray Fisher will reprise his role as Cyborg for the film.

The report doesn’t offer any details on the character or how big of a role he’ll play in the film, but it was safe to assume that The Flash would be joined by one or two of the other members of Justice League team in his film. After all, Marvel does it with their films. Hell, look at Captain America: Civil War, that was basically an Avengers movie.

We’ve got a good idea of what we can expect from The Flash, and I love Miller in the role. I’m still waiting to see more from Cyborg. The character looks cool, but it’s still hard to tell how his character will actually turn out. We’ll have to wait until Justice League before we get that.

I’m sure The Flash and Cyborg will make for a fun team up, but personally, I’d rather see The Flash end up alongside Harley Quinn because those two characters together would be a great and amusing dynamic.

The Flash is set to be directed by Rick Famuyiwa, who directed the Sundance Film Festival hit Dope, which you can watch on Netflix now. The movie is set to shoot later this year in London, and it will hit theaters on March 16th, 2018. Cyborg will eventually get his own film, but it’s not coming until the year 2020, so we’ve got a long way to go.

Full Director's Cut of the Star Wars Fan Film TK-436: A STORM TROOPER STORY

Earlier this week Lucasfilm announced the winner of their Star Wars Fan Film Awards. The winner of Filmmaker Select award went to a film called TK-436: A Stormtrooper Story. This short was awesome, and it’s easy to see why it won the top award.

The film tells the gritty tale of an Imperial stormtrooper who is forced to confront his past in the heat of a battle. I like that it tells the personal story of a Stormtrooper and shows that even though they look like disposable soldiers, they are real people with real lives.

The version that was submitted to Lucasfilm for the competition was only 5 minutes long, but there’s a director's cut that has been released that is over 12-minutes long, and you can watch it below. If you liked the short version then you'll definitely enjoy the long one.

The film comes from directors Samtubia and Samgoma Edwards and they made a great Star Wars movie! To watch all seven of the short film winners, click here.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Promo Poster Released

It looks like we've got our first promo poster for Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming. The image of the poster was posted online by the Tom Holland Media Twitter feed. According to CBR, the poster was allegedly spotted at the Magic Las Vegas trade show for apparel vendors.

I guess there are some poor quality versions of the poster floating around online. This is the only one that I've seen. As you can see, it features Spider-Man hanging upside down by a web and giving the classic Spidey salute.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will have a very heavy John Hughes influence, and the story centers on Spidey dealing with the perils of high school while battling supervillains and being a superhero in New York. Joining Holland in the film is Michael Keaton who will most likely be playing the Vulture, Michael Chernus as the Tinkerer, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, and Donald Glover. Reprising their roles from Captain America: Civil War, we have Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7th, 2017. For all of your previously released news on the film, click here.

Fox Reportedly Wants Liam Neeson as Cable in DEADPOOL, But Director Tim Miller Doesn’t

It was recently rumored that Kyle Chandler is wanted for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2. I think he’d be an interesting choice, but there’s another name that has surfaced that might be causing some contention between the studio and the director.

According to Umberto Gonzalez of Heroic Hollywood, Fox actually wants Liam Neeson in the role. Miller, on the other hand, doesn’t. Here's the tweet that Gonzalez posted when he was asked what star a studio wants in the role:

There's no information on who Miller wants, but if we connect the dots, he’s probably the one who wants Chandler to play the character. Neeson was never rumored to be up for the role, but he was suggested by fans.

Here’s the thing, Miller, Ryan Reynolds, and their creative team were pretty much able to do what they felt was right for the first film, and it worked out perfectly. Now all of a sudden the studio wants to stick their hands in and tell the creative team who they think they should cast in the role?

Look, Neeson is an awesome actor who would no doubt be great as Cable. But judging from what Miller gave us the first time around, I completely trust his judgement and his vision for Deadpool 2. If he and the studio are having a disagreement on who should be cast as Cable, I hope Miller gets his way.

There’s no confirmation that any of this is true, and I was just speculating that Chandler could be Miller’s choice. Who knows, maybe the actor that lands the role will be completely different. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Peter Parker’s SPIDER-MAN 3 Dance Scene Is Even More Awkward with No Music

Sam Rami’s Spider-Man 3 started out as a great film, but it ended up losing me halfway through when Peter Parker weirdly goes emo. The most awkward part of the movie is when he weirdly dances down the streets of New York.

That scene just got even more creepily awkward with a video in which the music is removed and replaced with realistic audio. The video comes from Mix Minus, and it’s incredibly amusing. You know what, though? This just seems like something you might really see in New York City. Enjoy!

The Opening Shot of THE LEGEND OF CONAN Revealed By Writer Will Beall

The Legend of Conan has been in development since 2012 with producer Chris Morgan and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I thought for sure by now the movie would have been shot and released, but that's obviously not how things played out. I've heard so many great things about the story, tone, and setting, and I really hope that one day the movie actually gets made. I'm not sure why it's taking so damn long, but /Film recently caught up with co-writer Will Beall who revealed how the film would open, saying:

“It opens with this [hand on the chin]. It’s where you have to. It’s the sequel that we were promised and never got. I’m 11 when my father took me to see Conan the Barbarian which you should never take an 11-year-old kid to. It was a life changing thing. It’s an unbelievable movie. It comes back to [director John] Milius, right? There’s nobody better and it’s a real movie. It’s a truthful movie. Chris and I from the very beginning said there’s no reason to do it unless it’s a worthy sequel to Milius’s Conan and I think we’ve got that. I really do.”

If you've seen the original movie, then you know it concludes with Conan sitting on his throne with his hand on his chin. I think opening the upcoming film with the same shot is absolutely perfect.

Beall goes on to say that Legend of Conan is still in active development. He and Morgan "are continuing to hone." He then says that he thinks it's “going to be a great movie actually.”

So it has basically been confirmed that the movie will pick up right where the classic 1982 film left off with an older King Conan sitting on his throne, deep in thought, wearing the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon his brow. The movie will ignore Richard Fleischer's 1984 Conan The Destroyer and the ridiculous 2011 reboot with Jason Momoa. Morgan previously talked about Conan author Robert E. Howard and the inspiration behind their new movie, saying:

"We look at all the source material and we love things that kind of speak to that tone. We’re incredibly respectful to Howard. I’m a huge fan of the stories and books, but I’m a super-huge fan of the first movie, because that crystallised and distilled it all for me. [John] Milius just killed it. He did such a good job. And Legend Of Conan is really resonant and it really digs into the legacy of that original film. I'm already very proud of it."

Morgan also previously described his version of Conan, which is initially what got me incredibly excited for this project:

"I want the warrior whose joints have started to fuse together, who has to crack the cartilage so he can pick up a sword again. I want the guy who’s not necessarily lost a step, but there’s some rust he has to shake off. I want to embrace that. It makes it a greater hero story.
"Conan needs to be faced with challenges. The greatest challenge to him isn’t the armies that are set before him. It’s, on some level, self-doubt, a little bit of slowing down and forcing yourself to be heroic beyond what people expect of you. What I don’t want is for him to step back in and look the same. That would defeat the purpose of our story. "

It's great to know that the sequel is still alive and in development. I hope they push it into production soon. This movie needs to happen! I believe it could be one of the best things that Schwarzenegger does in his career.

Trailer for THE IRON GIANT Documentary - THE GIANT’S DREAM

The Iron Giant is my number one favorite animated film of all time. There’s a new Signature Edition coming out soon, and it will include a documentary on the making of the film called The Giant’s Dream. We have a trailer for you to watch for that doc today that gives us a glimpse at some of the insight that will be included in the film.

As you’ll see, director Brad Bird was a very excited and talented young filmmaker looking to shake things up and do something completely different in the animation world. He wanted to do something that had never been done before. He seems like a punk rock animator who had a bold vision and an optimistic attitude. In one of the first scenes of the trailer, we see video footage of him going off on Disney and pointing out the issues with their films that he completely wanted to avoid with The Iron Giant

He went on to create one of the greatest animated films ever made that bombed at the box office because of poor marketing by the studio. The trailer came along with a quote from /Film that called the film "a beautiful and heartbreaking look at the Hollywood animation process, a must see."

We’ll all get our chance to see it when the Signature Edition of The Iron Giant is released on September 9th.

Watch: Honest Trailer For GLADIATOR

This Honest Trailers installment was a hard pill to swallow for me. Gladiator is one of my favorite films of all time, so I found plenty of ways to poke holes in the humor the video had. It's easy to hate on this film in a Game of Thrones world, but as you'll see, this film is one of the best offerings its genre has to offer. For what it's worth I also think it's in the top three of Ridley Scott's greatest work.

I can still take a joke, though. I'll admit I laughed. I WAS ENTERTAINED. Good work, Screen Junkies.

20th Century Fox Rolls The Dice with a Remake of CLUE

If you're anything like me, you've spent hours playing the classic Parker Brothers board game Clue, but even more hours watching and cracking up at the cult classic 1985 film. (Check out Buzzfeed's outstanding oral history of the movie.) It's a terrific movie with an absolutely stellar cast and a crackerjack script that still holds up extremely well, a feat that's all the more impressive considering how a modern board game movie like Battleship failed so spectacularly. Hollywood and Hasbro have been itching to remake Clue for a while now, with Universal once hiring Gore Verbinski to direct a movie that took the board game setting and expanded it to a global stage. Now The Tracking Board reports that the movie is moving forward again, this time across town at 20th Century Fox.

It's unclear if Verbinski is still involved with this remake, and while story details are being kept under wraps, apparently Hasbro has retained the global scale of the script that was in development a few years ago.

I'm guessing there are plenty of our younger readers who may not have seen Clue, and I can't recommend it enough. It works in that perfect sweet spot of homage and actual entry into a genre, spoofing Agatha Christie-type murder mysteries but also delivering enough fun plot twists and memorable moments to work on that level itself. Obviously the script is vitally important here (as it is for every film), but casting for this one is going to be especially key for the studio to take the action global and try to turn this into a franchise. Head to the comments with your casting ideas for each of the main characters.

Video Explores Why JURASSIC PARK's VFX Still Hold Up Today

There's a long-standing misconception that the original Jurassic Park holds up so well because of its reliance on animatronic dinosaurs. While it is true that animatronic dinosaurs were used for parts of the film, a bulk of the scenes were still performed using CGI and stop motion animation. In the video below, KaptainKristian shares more on the process and how it hasn't been replicated since.

One of the most popular anime of the '00s is making the inevitable jump to live action. Crunchyroll reports an early look at the August 22nd Shonen Jump shows that a live-action film version of Bleach will be based on the manga and release in 2018. This has disappointed some hardcore fans who hoped that the series would be getting a new animated series, but I'm sure plenty of people are excited for this news. Are you?

BATMAN: RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS Trailer Reunites Adam West and Burt Ward

Adam West and Burt Ward became household names playing Batman and Robin on the 1960s Batman TV series (and starring in the 1966 movie), and they've retained their celebrity status to this day. Last year, the Dynamic Duo promised that they'd be lending their voices to a new Batman animated movie, and they hyped it again a couple of months ago. Now, EW has the first trailer for Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, which you can watch below:

West is about to turn 88 years old next month, and his shaky voice certainly sounds like it in that trailer. Still, there's a charm to hearing these guys return to their iconic roles, and maybe it'll be easier to fall into the rhythm of the audio in a full movie instead of a short video.

The film hits Digital HD on October 11th and Blu-ray on November 1st.

If only all villains in life were as hilarious and incompetent as Team Rocket. What Jesse, James, and Meowth lacked in skill, they made up for in making us laugh and having an incredible resilience to falling from large heights and explosions. The official Pokemon channel uploaded their favorite "blasting off" moments. Having rewatched a bulk of the first season recently, I can agree these are the cream of the crop!
