Ryan Gosling Drops out of LOGAN'S RUN

$

Looks like Ryan Gosling is no longer attached to star in Nicolas Winding Refn's remake of Logan's Run. The news comes from Variety's Justin Kroll via his Twitter, but there is no reason given as to why. It makes me wonder if Refn is actually still attached to direct. Most of the time it ends up being scheduling conflicts.

I was looking forward to seeing Gosling in this film, but maybe he's found something better to do. It will be interesting to see who gets hired to replace him. The story takes place in a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a "runner" and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.

Who do you think would make a good replacement for Gosling in this film?

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD - Action Packed International Trailer and Poster

Check out this action-packed international teaser trailer for director John Moore's A Good Day to Die Hard. There's a good amount of new explosive footage packed into this one, and it's good to see John McClane back and getting himself into trouble. The movie looks like it going to be a great addition to the franchise, and I'm looking forward to seeing it. It just looks like it's going to be extremely entertaining!

I do have to say the poster is a little disappointing. I couldn't help but role my eyes at the tag line.

Here's the Synopsis:

Since the first "Die Hard" in 1988, John McClane has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the skills and attitude to always be the last man standing, making him enemy #1 for terrorists the world over. Now, McClane faces his greatest challenge ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.

The movie comes out on February 14th, and stars Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Megalyn Echikunwoke and Anne Vyalitsyna. Are you excited for the return of John McClane?

Ian McKellen Talks About Filming THE HOBBIT, Thorin and Radagast

$

The most recent issue of Empire features a ton of great stuff from Peter Jackson's highly anticipated film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. One of those things is an interview with Sir Ian McKellen who thankfully came back to reprise his role in the new Middle Earth trilogy. He talks a little bit about the story and what's in store for the fans,

It's Thorin, not Gandalf, driving this quest. Gandalf is not quite certain that the quest is the right thing to be doing. It is, after all, just rescuing some money. He also has doubts that Thorin is up to the job. But every suggestion Gandalf makes seems to be rejected.

The magazine points out that the actor said he had no hesitation in returning to the role, but he does reveal that one of the most frustrating aspects of working on the movie was "not quite getting to work with people who were of a radically different size or entirely CG in nature."

I have a fight with Barry Humphries, playing the Goblin [King], but he wasn't around. I didn't get to work with Stephen Fry or Benedict Cumberbatch. Ian Holm and Christopher Lee both did their work here. I did get a little bit to do with Billy Connolly. And the gorgeous Bret McKenzie, one of the Flying Conchords (sic), is back as Figwit.

It's got to be incredibly hard for an actor to act against something that's not even there. It all looks awesome in the end though! McKellen then goes on to talk about the character Radagast saying,

He's a curious thing and that appeals to Gandalf's inquiring nature. Saruman... has no time for Radagast. But he's really just a simple person, in touch with nature and animals and birds... Gandalf sends him off on little jobs.

This film can't get here soon enough! I've been waiting for this my whole life, and I can't wait to to see this adventure up on the big screen!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens this holiday season on December 14th, 2012The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released on December 13th, 2013, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again will be released worldwide on July 18th, 2014.

Synopsis:

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

First Look at the New Hannibal Lecter TV Series

$

Here's a few photos from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly that gives us our first look at Bryan Fuller's new TV series Hannibal, based on the terrifying serial killer Hannibal Lecter. The photos give us a look at Mads Mikkelsen as the title character, Hugh Dancy as FBI agent Will Graham, and Laurence Fishburne as his boss Jack Crawford.

I loved Anthony Hokins in the movie role, but the casting of Mikkelsen was inspired, he's such a creepy looking guy, a great actor, and he fits the character perfectly. I can't wait to see him do his thing.

Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me) wrote and is producing the cannibalistic serial killer series. It is based on Thomas Harris’ best-selling novel Red Dragon, and the series takes us back to the beginning of the two main characters' relationship. The story will follow Graham as he tries to solve a series of murders and enlists the help of brilliant psychiatrist Dr. Lecter... unaware the good doctor is secretly a cannibalistic killer. In a previous interview Fuller talked about the series saying,

It’s before he was incarcerated, so he’s more of a peacock. There is a cheery disposition to our Hannibal. He’s not being telegraphed as a villain. If the audience didn’t know who he was, they wouldn’t see him coming. What we have is Alfred Hitchcock’s principle of suspense — show the audience the bomb under the table and let them sweat when it’s going to go boom. So the audience knows who Hannibal is so we don’t have to overplay his villainy. We get to subvert his legacy and give the audience twists and turns.

It really is a love story, for lack of a better description, between these two characters. As Hannibal has said [to Graham] in a couple of the movies, ‘You’re a lot more like me than you realize.’ We’ll get to the bottom of exactly what that means over the course of the first two seasons. But we’re taking our sweet precious time.

NBC has ordered 13 episodes for the first season and the pilot episode was directed by 30 Days of Night director David Slade. Check out the photos, and let us know if you're excited about this new series?

Twistedly Bizarre Short Film about Mutated Human Appendages

The Origin of Creatures is a distururbingly bizarre short film created by Floris Kaayk. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic furtue overrun by these strange human mutated body parts. This is seriously something right out of a nightmare.

Here's a description of the story:

A futuristic vision of a world after a catastrophic disaster. In this dark parable mutated limbs are looking for cooperation, but due to miscommunication this mission is doomed to fail.

The storyline of The Origin of Creatures is based on one of the most well-known tales about collaboration, the Tower of Babel. This tale is transformed and twisted and is set in an imaginary future, after the world is hit by a catastrophe. Among the remains of a devastated city lives that what is left of humanity. Human bodies are divided into separated parts of the body and are fused to special beings. Together, these creatures form a colony, they can only survive when collaborating. In the rubble of destroyed buildings they are trying to build a nest as large and as high as possible, so that the colony’s queen gets enough sunlight to reproduce, but due to miscommunication this mission is doomed to fail.

Watch the short below and let us know what you thought of it!

Cool Set of STAR WARS Eyeglasses

I don't wear glasses, but if I did I would most definitely have to get a pair of these extremely cool Star Wars inspired eyeglasses!

The Star Wars eyewear comes from Japan’s Aigan and includes five awesome designer frames. Each one represents a different character from the movies. The frame designs include Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2 and Stormtrooper.

Gizmine will be importing these from Japan starting at the end of October, and you can pre-order them now. They will run you $499.99(USD) a pair, so they’re not exactly cheap, but doable if you really want them.

The best part about these is they aren't over the top or ridiculous looking, at least I don't think they are. Check out the series, and let us know which pair you would want!

BEVERLY HILLS COP TV Series Finds its Lead Actor

CBS is looking to cast character actor Brandon T. Jackson in the lead role of their small screen adaptation of Beverly Hills Cop. Jackson has had roles in several films that include Tropic Thunder, Lottery Ticket, Fast & Furious Percy Jackson; Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and more.

Jackson would play Aaron, the son of Eddie Murphy's character Axel Foley. Murphy is also planning to reprise his original role in a guest-star capacity. His son would be the main focus of the series, helping take down the criminal elements of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills while trying to escape the shadow of his larger-than-life father.

The series is being developed by The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, and like the film, the series will be a mix of action and comedy. I think Jackson is a solid choice to take on the role, what do you think?

Britain Hosts Its First Klingon Wedding

I imagine when most girls think of their dream wedding they imagine themselves with a prosthetic forehead and a coarse black wig exchanging guttural vows with her husband to be. What's that? No little girl has those dreams! Then what's with all the Kilingon weddings??? We've seen our fair share here in the States, but apparently Britain just held their first one.

After seeing the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode in which Worf marries Officer Dax in a traditional Kilingon ceremony (I actually remember this one), this Swedish couple, 23-year-old bride Jossie Sockertopp and 29-year-old groom Sonnie Gustavsson, decided to perform their nuptials in the same heartfelt fashion. The bride explained,

We saw the clip from the series...and we thought it was very romantic about beating hearts and a battle for each other.

One plane ride and three bangs of gong later, the couple tied the knot in front of 17,000 people at the Destination Star Trek London event where all five captains from the Star Trek TV series are scheduled to appear on stage for the first time together. Check out the video of the ceremony and interviews with the couple. The interview with the man who performed the wedding, who had to quickly learn some Klingon phrases, is pretty funny.

E.T.: THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Review

Steven Spielberg's' E.T.:The Extra-Terrestrial 30th Anniversary Blu-ray arrived on shelves on October 9, just in time to get the Halloween season off to a glorious start. This is the second Spielberg classic to get the Blu-ray special treatment, with JAWS recently being released as well. The movie stars Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore, Peter Coyote, Dee Wallace, Robert MacNaughton and K.C. Martel. Watching this again, I was reminded of how special this film is. E.T. looks the best I have seen it in a long time on Blu-ray with it's beautifully restored filmic 1080p video transfer. The sound is equally impressive, with a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 This is enough of a reason to buy this film, but the added special features make this purchase a no-brainer.

Melissa Mathison wrote this wonderful screenplay that not only introduces audiences to a different side of Aliens, but also takes us inside of a broken family. As a kid, I was mainly interested in seeing E.T. in the film, and could relate with Elliot since I was about the same age. Watching the film now, I realize that there are so many wonderful layers to the characters and the story. The film follows E.T., who is stranded on Earth and befriends a young boy and his sister. While attempting to contact E.T.'s home planet, the children have to escape the government agents and scientists who want to experiment on the extra-terrestrial. E.T. has everything you could ask for in a film, and takes fans through a range of emotions and experiences.

The entire film is entertaining, the characters are engaging, and there are so many cool moments throughout. One of my personal favorites is near the end, where the NASA scientists dressed in their space outfits slowly and with heavy breathing enter the house to get E.T. This scene is wonderfully shot, and has wonderful elements of tension thanks to the score. There are also some very touching and heart-wrenching moments.

I love the special features for this disc, but my favorite is the "E.T. Reunion", which gives us insight into the main characters then and now. There are so many cool stories from the production that can be gained from watching this feature. Unfortunately, there isn't a commentary track, but there is a featurette I enjoyed called "Spielberg and E.T." that is close enough.

Special Features:

  • Steven Spielberg and E.T.: Spielberg gives us as close to a commentary track as we are going to get. Hearing him talk never gets old, so this is required viewing for fans wanting to take a close look at everything that went into the movie from start to finish.
  • The E.T. Journals: This feature is a bunch of on-the-set videos that show the young cast and all sorts of cool stuff.
  • Deleted Scenes: I can not imagine these scenes making it into the film, so I am glad that Spielberg cut them.
  • A Look Back: This feature was part of the 2002 20th Anniversary Edition DVD release, and it unfortunately is not shown in HD.
  • The Evolution and Creation of E.T.: Another feature from the 20th Anniversary Edition DVD, and features a bit of redundancy. For super fans, there really is never redundancy though.
  • The E.T. Reunion: As I mentioned above, the reunion is one of my favorite bits. It features Spielberg, Thomas, MacNaughton, Barrymore, Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote and producer Kathleen Kennedy sharing various memories from their experience.
  • The 20th Anniversary Premiere: If John Williams' score is not cool enough, you can see him performing it for a live audience at the films 20th Anniversary premiere at the Shrine Auditorium. I would have loved to have seen the whole performance, but this is only 18 minutes long.
  • The Music of E.T.: John Williams talks about music, nuff said.
  • Designs, Photographs and Marketing: This includes six image galleries that are all pretty cool.

SLENDER MAN and ZERO DARK THIRTY Trailer Parody

$

0

The Slender Man urban legend has become very popular these days. YouTube user Whatstrending has posted this great fake trailer that places Slender Man right in the middle of the Navy SEAL movie Zero Dark Thirty. Instead of hunting down Osama Bin Laden they are hunting Slender Man.

Zero Dark Thirty is Kathryn Bigelow's white-knuckle thriller based on the true story of the manhunt for Osama bin Laden. Now, What's Trending re-imagines the film if it applied to the most nefarious and terrifying of all YouTube memes - the Slender Man.

Slender Man (or Slenderman, if you prefer) was born out of a Something Awful forum, where users tried to create a scary online hoax. The tall, thin, faceless, frequently-tentacled foe has now been featured in numerous (hopefully fake) images and videos around the Web, and is even the star of his own video game, "Slender."

This actually looks like it could make for a fun movie. Enjoy the trailer!

Cool POLTERGEIST Movie Poster Art from Hopko Designs

Here's another great piece of poster art by Hopko Designs! This one is for the Steven Spielberg and Toby Hooper film Poltergeist, which is one of my favorite horror movies of all time! I watch this movie every year around Halloween to help get into the spirit of the season, so it makes for a great Halloween post.

Here's a few bits of fun trivia about the film that you might not know about:

  • Stephen King was briefly approached to write the screenplay. It would have been the first written by King directly for the screen, but the parties could not agree on the terms.
  • The film was originally given a R rating, but the filmmakers protested successfully and got a PG rating (the PG-13 rating did not exist at the time). When originally released in the UK the film was given an 'X' certificate, prohibiting anyone under 18 from seeing the film.
  • The hands which pull the flesh off the investigator's face in the bathroom mirror are Steven Spielberg's.
  • Heather O'Rourke, who played the little girl Carol-Anne, and Dominique Dunne, who played the teenage daughter, are buried in the same cemetery: Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Dunne was strangled into brain-death by her boyfriend in 1982, the year of the film's release. Six years later, O'Rourke died of intestinal stenosis.
  • The shot of the chairs that position themselves in the amazing balancing act on the table was all done in one take. As the camera panned along with JoBeth Williams, who was getting some cleaning materials, several crew members quickly set an already organized pyramid of chairs on the table, then took the single chairs away before the camera scrolled back.
  • Both of the terrors that plague Robbie came from Steven Spielberg's own fears as a child, a fear of clowns and a tree outside his window.
  • Drew Barrymore was considered for the role of Carol Anne, but Steven Spielberg wanted someone more angelic. It was Barrymore's audition for this role, however, that landed her a part in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
  • In reality, Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams are only 14 and 11 years older than Dominique Dunne, who plays their teen-aged daughter.

Thanks Scott Hopko for the heads up on the poster!

Eli Roth Shows Villagers Their First Movie - Luckily, Not One of His Own

$

Eli Roth is set to direct his first full length feature film since Hostel II, The Green Inferno, which is based on the 1980 Italian movie Cannibal Holocaust. The story follows an "idealistic student and a group of naive do-gooders who are captured by cannibalistic Indios after their plane crash lands in the Peruvian jungle."

The full cast for the film has been announced, and Roth is ready to put them to work in some crazy conditions! He will be shooting the film near a remote native village located on the Amazon river in Peru. This place has no electricity or running water. The director took a small film crew to the village to get permission to shoot there from the locals, and while they were there they showed the residents there their first movie. The movie he ended up showing them was Cannibal Holocaust, and guess what? The natives thought it was hilarious! In an interview with Movieline Roth said,

"The location that we found is truly spectacular. It’s so far up the Amazon, no one has ever shot there. The last person anywhere near there was Werner Herzog for Aguirre, the Wrath of God. We said, ‘Can we shoot here?’ and talked to them, and our producers said ‘We have to explain to them what a movie is. They’ve never seen a television.’ So we brought a generator and set up a television. I thought they were going to show them E.T. or The Wizard of Oz, but they showed them Cannibal Holocaust to see how much they could handle….The villagers thought it was the funniest thing they’d ever seen.”

If you haven't seen Cannibal Holocaust, check it out... it's not so funny. In fact it's been banned in several countries because of its depiction of extremely graphic sexual assaults, violent beatings and animal cruelty.

I think it's cool that the movie will be shot in such a remote location, it will definitely add some very cool production value to the film. I was never a big fan of Roth's Hostel films, but I hope The Green Inferno turns out good. The world could use another good crazy cannibal movie.

According to the recent press released, the movie will start shooting on November 5th, and the cast includes Lorenza Izzo (Aftershock), Ariel Levy (Aftershock), Aaron Burns, Daryl Sabara (John Carter, Machete), Kirby Bliss Blanton (Project X), Magda Apanowicz and actress/singer Sky Ferreira

Are you looking forward to Roth's next movie?

Here's what the rest of the Press Release included:

Worldview Entertainment is financing and producing the horror thriller, which is directed by Roth and based on a screenplay he co-wrote withAftershock co-writer Guillermo Amoedo. Exclusive Media is handling the international sales to the film that will be presented to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market by Alex Walton, Exclusive Media’s President of International Sales and Distribution. CAA, which arranged financing for the film, is handling domestic rights.

Roth is producing The Green Inferno alongside Worldview CEO, Christopher Woodrow, Worldview COO, Molly Conners, and Sobras International producers Miguel Asensio Llamas and Nicolás Lopez. Worldview’s Maria Cestone, Sarah Johnson Redlich and Hoyt David Morgan will executive produce. Filming will take place over the next few weeks in Peru before moving to Santiago, Chile.

This will be Roth’s directorial follow up to the successful Hostel franchise, which collectively grossed over $300 million worldwide. Most recently Roth co-wrote, produced and starred in Aftershock; produced and co-wrote The Man with the Iron Fists for Universal Studios, starring Russell Crowe, RZA and Lucy Liu with Quentin Tarantino presenting; produced The Last Exorcism Part II with Strike Entertainment for StudioCanal; and is currently filming his new series “Hemlock Grove” for Netflix.

The Green Inferno is Worldview’s second collaboration with Roth after teaming up to finance and produce Ti West’s (The Innkeepers, The House of the Devil) horror thriller, The Sacrament, currently in pre-production in Savannah, Georgia.

Patrick Wilson and Liv Tyler Star in 70s Sci-Fi Dramady SPACE STATION 76

Patrick Wilson, Liv Tyler, Matt Bomer, Jerry O’Connell, and Marisa Coughlan all star in a new sci-fi dramatic comedy called Space Station 76, and it's already finished shooting! The movie was written and directed by actor Jack Plotnick

The film is described as being set in a 1970s version of the future, and the story "centers on the goings-on in a space station. Tyler plays a new assistant captain whose arrival causes tension amongst the crew while Wilson is the bitter and suicidal captain. Bomer is a technician with a robotic hand who is married to a manipulative woman (Coughlan)."

This is Plotnick's first time directing a feature film, and he did it under the radar. According to THR he was trying to use the space station as a metaphor for his life growing up in 1970s suburbia. He explained,

People think that the 1970s were about the discos and the free love, but in the suburbs you were left feeling, ‘Where’s the party?’ So the emotional story is what I felt in the '70s. My parents weren’t happy together and they stuck it out for the kids. It’s an homage to them. And in one way, I think we’re like these solitary ships in space trying to connect.

It's really interesting to see how the movie came together. He basically used his acting relationships to get the ball rolling on it. "He sent the script to Wilson via a mutual friend; Wilson’s subsequent boarding gave the project legitimacy. Tyler came into the picture via Plotnick’s acting website; he knew the actress had downloaded his tutorial videos and purchased books and was keen to work with him." From there everything just seemed to fall into place, which is awesome!

It sounds like a great and interesting concept and he's got a great cast to back it up. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

Animated Film TURKEYS Coming from Relativity Media

Even though it's not even Halloween yet in 2012, Relativity Media is already looking ahead to Thanksgiving of 2014.

The studio is partnering with Reel FX to produce Turkeys, an animated comedy featuring the voice talents of Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson. Jimmy Hayward, who directed Horton Hears A Who! and the disastrous Jonah Hex after Neveldine/Taylor vacated the project, is returning to animation and tackling the directing duties on this one. (I think we can all forgive him for Jonah Hex considering he was an animator on Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo.) John Strauss and David I. Stern wrote the screenplay (rewrite by Dan Mazin), with regular Kevin Smith collaborator Scott Mosier producing.

The movie is described as "an irreverent, hilarious, adventurous buddy comedy where two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history - and get turkey off the menu for good."

The time travel element certainly sounds like fun, and with the goofy voices of Wilson and Harrelson leading the charge, kids will probably have a blast as well. I had a friend who was working on this project over a year ago, so it's been in the works for quite some time already. It sucks that we have to wait a whole two years to see it, but I get it - animation takes time. Hopefully they can avoid the excessive pop culture jokes like the old DreamWorks Animation films used to rely on and deliver something fresh to go along with our holiday meals in a couple of years.

Excited about this one?

Stephen King's GRAMMA Will be Directed by Peter Cornwell

$

Universal Pictures has hired Peter Cornwell (The Haunting in Connecticut) to direct the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's short story Gramma, from a script written by Matt Greenberg (1408, Halloween H20). They even already have an actress set to star in it, A.I.'s Frances O'Connor. One of the coolest things about this story is that it includes characters, creatures, and unearthly powers that are featured in the works of H.P. Lovecraft, so the story is set in the Cthulhu Mythos.

The story is part of King's 1985 short story collection Skeleton Crew. It follows two young boys who go with their single mother (O'Connor) to take care of their elderly, senile grandmother named Mercy, only to discover that she's a witch who made a pact with a dark force many years before.

The basic plot kind of sounds like where the Paranormal Activity story is going. Of course this was written long before Paranormal Activity came around, and it's a better story. Speaking of which, Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum will produce the movie with McG. This is all part of a deal he made with the studio last year in which he would develop low-budget films.

The story has been adapted before as an episode of 'The New Twilight Zone' back in 1986. Greenberg is also working on another King project, he's writing the script for the Pet Sematary remake. There's some talented people attached to the project, and as a fan of King's work, I'm excited to see how it turns out!

It amazes me how many stories from King still have yet to become movies. I enjoy everything he writes!

Check out the Twilight Zone episode below!

Here's a detailed spoiler filled plot summary of the story:

An eleven-year-old boy named George Bruckner is at home with his mother when the two find out that elder son Buddy, age thirteen, has injured his leg playing baseball. George's mother must go into the city, an hour away, to visit Buddy in the hospital, but someone must stay home to watch her own mother, a huge, cantankerous, ancient, bedridden woman. George reluctantly volunteers.

As George sets about the kitchen after his mother leaves, he begins to think about his "Gramma" and recalls the first time she came to the house. He had been six years old, and the old woman demanded that he come to her that she could "give him a hug." George was terrified of this concept, and he cried endlessly. His mother eventually pacified Gramma, promising that he would hug her "in time."

George waits for his mother to return. As the hours pass, strange thoughts - events he had witnessed earlier - begin to surface in his mind. He recalls overhearing his mother's siblings begging her to care for the old woman: "You're the only one who can quiet her down, Ruth." Eventually, Ruth was forced to leave San Francisco and move to Castle Rock, Maine to care for their mother. George also recalls that Gramma had been kicked out of her church for owning particular books. He finally remembers that the woman had been infertile for a long while, any pregnancies she did achieve ending in miscarriages or stillbirths and it was only after being excommunicated that she became pregnant and gave birth to a healthy child.

George suddenly hears a scraping sound on sheets; he imagines Gramma's long, ragged fingernails rubbing against her bed. He enters to check on her and watches the obese, white, almost formless woman for a few moments. Quite suddenly, he recalls other memories: his Gramma uttering strange words one night, and relatives dying the next morning. George abruptly realizes that his grandmother is a witch, having gained dark powers from reading the forbidden tomes.

As George makes this realization, he realizes that his Gramma has died. Though terrified, he checks her pulse and holds a mirror before her nose, making sure. Once he is convinced, he prepares to make a phone call to the doctor, only to find that the phone is dead. George opts to wait for his mother to come home, and thinks of the praise he will gain for handling the situation so calmly...until he realizes that he did not cover his grandmother's face. He imagines his brother tormenting him endlessly for this "cowardly" action.

Determined, George enters the dead woman's room and places a sheet over her flabby face. As he does, her hand suddenly wraps around his wrist and holds it for a few moments. George flees the room, injuring his nose in the process. As he tries to rationalize the movement, he hears groaning from the next room, as though the corpse was trying to get off of the bed. He then hears his Gramma calling him: "Come here, Georgie...Gramma wants to give you a hug."

George is terrified and races from the room. He hears the enormous woman stumbling after him, and even guesses that as a witch, she waited until she was alone with him to die. His Aunt Flo calls, and he tries to explain the situation as Gramma enters the kitchen. Aunt Flo tells him that he must invoke the name of Hastur and tell Gramma to "lie down" in his name. Gramma knocks the phone from his hand, and George screams the phrase repeatedly: "You have to lie down! In Hastur's name! Liedown!" Gramma wraps her arms around him.

The story jumps to an hour later, with George sitting calmly at the kitchen table. When Ruth returns, George runs to her, explaining that Gramma died. His mother fearfully asks if "anything else happened." George denies it and goes off to his room to sleep. It is implied that Gramma has possessed George, turning the boy into an evil warlock, as he used a spell to strike down his Aunt Flo with an aneurysm. The story ends with George grinning wickedly, imagining the kind of torture he will be able to inflict on his brother.

Though his past few live-action movies haven't connected with audiences - Jack & Jill and That's My Boy - last month, Adam Sandler caught a break with his sophomore animated feature, Hotel Transylvania as the voice of the overprotective Count Dracula. However, his next film, Grown Ups 2 will be the last he does with long-time distribution partner Sony Pictures. The reason for his departure is being linked to Sony saving up for Ghostbusters III. He will be moving to Paramount Pictures with his newest project, a Western comedy called Ridiculous 6.

The title is an obvious parody of the famous Western film, The Magnificent Seven (itself a literal Westernization of Seven Samurai). From the sound of it, it looks like we are about to get yet another ensemble comedy from Sandler and his Happy Madison friends. Sandler has dabbled in being a cowboy in one of his previous films, Walt Disney Pictures' Bedtime Stories. Is he ready to saddle up again or should he hang up his hat?
