AMC has released several new photos from the upcoming seventh season of The Walking Dead. They include new looks at Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, Khary Payton as Ezekiel, some nasty looking walkers, and more.

Morgan recently talked a little bit about the series, saying that with the next season fans will basically watching a completely different show. With the introduction of Negan everything changes. I’ve enjoyed the first six seasons of the show, but it really needed some fresh, different, and drastic changes. It looks like that’s exactly what we’ll be getting. In case you missed the Comic-Con trailer, make sure to check it out here.

The Walking Dead season seven will premiere Sunday, October 23rd. As in previous seasons, the show’s seventh season of 16 episodes will air in two parts, with the first eight episodes kicking off October 23rd and the final eight returning February 2017.

Visually Impressive STAR TREK Fan Film CHASING THE INFINITE SKY

You’ve got to check out this visually stunning Star Trek fan film called "Chasing The Infinite Sky." The film was created by YouTube user Alvision100, and he says he created it to express his love for the franchise.

There’s no real story or plot, but the short is set in an alternate timeline and is meant to highlight Star Fleet's passion for space exploration. It focuses on the U.S.S. Albatross traveling the universe.

The creator’s passion for Star Trek shines through in this short, and he created something incredibly cool that I know other fans will truly appreciate. I love the passion of fandom and how it sparks creativity like this! I hope you enjoy it!

Meryl Streep to Join Emily Blunt in Disney's MARY POPPINS RETURNS

Oscar winner Meryl Streep is in talks to join Emily Blunt is Disney's upcoming Mary Poppins Returns. The movie is being directed by Rob Marshall, and if Streep is cast, it would kind of be an Into the Woods reunion as they all worked on that movie together. Streep and Blunt also worked together on The Devil Wears Prada

According to Variety, Streep would take on the role of Mary Poppins’ cousin, Topsy. This is a supporting role that wasn’t in the 1964 classic. Streep would also be required to sing in the role, which isn't a surprise. She's been singing a lot in movies lately. The movie also stars Lin Manuel-Miranda as a new character, a street lamplighter named Jack. Here are some previously released details on the story:

Drawing from the wealth of material in P.L. Travers’ seven additional novels, the story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

I'm curious to see how this movie turns out. The original movie was a favorite of mine when I was a kid, and I can't wait to see how this new story plays out. Disney has brought together a talented team to develop it, so I'm hoping for the best! On top of that, Blunt is going to make a perfect Mary Poppins.

JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie Trailer Recreated in Animation and in FALLOUT 4

DC Entertainment revealed the first teaser trailer for Zack Snyder's Justice League movie during the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con last weekend. I was surprised by the trailer and the amount of fun humor that was in it. It's too early to tell if the movie will actually end up being good or not, but it looks like they are on the right track. We'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, we've got a couple fan trailers for the film for you to watch. The first video was created by meridianite, and he recreated the trailer using footage from the DC animated films. The second video was created by UpIsNotJump, and in that one, the trailer was recreated in Fallout 4. Both of them turned out to be pretty cool and you can check them out below.

"Pivotal" Mid-Credits Scene Confirmed for SUICIDE SQUAD

In case you were wondering if there would be a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene in Suicide Squad, the answer would be yes and no. ComicBook.com is reporting that there will be a mid-credits sequence that is described as being "pivotal" and "important," and it will apparently tease the extended universe. There's no other information than that, so don't worry about any spoilers.

It was also confirmed that this is no post-credits sequence at the very end of the film after all of the credits roll like what Marvel does. The report offers the following information:

After the credits sequence rolls (that's also called the "bumper," the part before the plain black-and-white names and characters part rolls), using the same stylized hyper-colored imagery they’ve used in the posters and character art, there’s one more scene waiting for you on the other side. It’s pivotal and important, too.

There is not, however, an after-credits scene. While Marvel Studios frequently makes use of both, giving a major story beat in the mid-credits, and an extra tease or sometimes a joke post-credits, it seems DC Films/WB is not following suit. Of course, this is also based on early screenings, so it could change after the film itself is released. We’ve reached out to Warner Bros. for confirmation, and should they provide it, will update.

Of course, you are more than welcome to sit around after the credits roll to see if WB did decide to add something to the final cut of the film that will be released in theaters. I'm just excited about seeing Suicide Squad next week!

What do you think the mid-credits scene will entail?

New SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Set Photos Surface and Another Avenger Might Be in the Film

Some new photos have surfaced from the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming. They feature Tom Holland all decked out in his costume walking around a wooded location wearing his backpack. This isn't really the kind of setting that we are used to seeing Spider-Man in. You can check out the photos below. Under the photos you will find some possible spoiler information on another Avenger, other than Tony Stark, who might be making an appearance in the movie.

As for the other Avenger character, photographer @AtlantaFilming recently implied on Twitter that Black Widow was in the movie, as she was apparently spotted on the set of the film. All he said was:

There's no official confirmation of this, but It's not hard to believe that Black Widow could make a brief appearance. I hope she does! I love Black Widow, and it would be great to see her and Spider-Man share a moment together in the film.

There's been a lot of new news regarding this film over the past week. To catch up on that news, or see if you missed anything, click here

Watch All Six Unsettling AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 6 Promo Spots

We've already seen three promos for American Horror Story Season 6, but three more have been released. You can watch all six of them below, and as you'd expect, they all featuring strange and creepy imagery and sounds.

As of right now the next season is being referred to and ?6. After watching these spots I really have no idea what to expect other than the series is “set in two time periods.” Perhaps part of the series deals with hillbillies because I'm kind of getting that weird vibe from some of these videos, but I don't know! I'm just making guesses. What do you think the sixth season of American Horror Story will be about?

This Homemade Poké Ball Launcher Will Catch Any Pokémon You Want!

Turns out we’ve been playing Pokemon Go wrong all along. Youtuber Joerg Sprave of The SlingShot Channel shows us how we should actually be playing Pokemon Go. By actually building a slingshot, a.k.a. the Pikachu Hunter 1400, to catch the Pokemon in the game. But it seems Sprave hasn't really grasped the concept of what Pokemon actually is. The further you watch the more you'll understand what that means. But I won't spoil anything for you.

It’s actually a really entertaining video to watch. It’ll make you raise some eyebrows and have a little laugh.

CW To Air SUPERGIRL Season One Beginning In August

CW will begin airing season one of Supergirl beginning August 1st. A couple months back, it was announced the show would be making the switch from CBS to CW with a reduced budget but new opportunity for crossovers between brands. CW will air two episodes back to back beginning Monday.

I began to watch the series on CBS, but ultimately left it behind as it interfered with other shows I was watching at the same time. I was planning on binge watching on Netflix, but seeing as it's coming sooner to CW, I might just watch it there! See the official video announcement from Melissa Benoist below.

Humor: The Singing Sarlacc Pit

It's a good thing George Lucas doesn't have the rights to Star Wars anymore...he might actually try to make this happen! David Unger is back with his whacky movie edits and has really outdone himself with this Return of the Jedi meets Little Shop of Horrors mash-up!

I'm kind of embarrassed by how much I enjoyed this. There's something about the scene where C-3PO appears as though he's screaming over the singing so that he can be heard... that really got to me!

The U.S. Trailer for Park Chan-wook's THE HANDMAIDEN Gets Crazy Weird

Director Park Chan-wook has made some incredibly awesome and twisted films in his career. Some of those films include Oldboy, Lady Vengence, Thirst, and Stoker. All of these films are beautifully made, and you're going to that same stunning visualization in this new U.S. trailer for his next film The Handmaid. I've enjoyed all of Park's films, and this one looks pretty damn insane. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

From Park Chan-wook, comes a ravishing new crime drama. Park presents a gripping and sensual tale of two women—a young Japanese lady living on a secluded estate and a Korean woman who is hired to serve as her new handmaiden, but is secretly plotting with a conman to defraud her of a large inheritance. Inspired by the novel Fingersmith by British author Sarah Waters, THE HANDMAIDEN borrows the most dynamic elements of its source material and combines it with Park Chan-wook’s singular vision to create an unforgettable viewing experience.

The Handmaiden opens in theaters on October 14th.

Video Shows Representation of Drug Culture in Films Through the Decades

Did you know Thomas Edison directed America's first film featuring drugs...and it wasn't a negative film?! Turns out people were surprisingly okay with the use of drugs, but that all seemed to change in the mid '40s to '50s. Why did this happen? What was its effect on American society? I could break it all down for you, but The Court of Source already did it for me and included a bunch of fancy pictures as well.

Director Joe Carnahan Set to Write the UNCHARTED Movie for Sony

Joe Carnahan, the director of films such as Smokin' Aces, The A-Team, The Grey, and the upcoming Bad Boys 3, is set to write a new script for Sony Pictures' big-screen adaptation of the hit video game Uncharted

The film project has been in development for years, but the studio seems to trust that Carnahan can deliver a solid script. I can only imagine that his script will be very unconventional like the rest of this movies are.  Carnahan will not direct the film. While talking to Variety, he said he wouldn't have the time unless the production date is pushed back. He told them:

“In a perfect world I would love to do both, but right now, I’m only on board to write the script.”

He's gearing up to direct Will Smith in Bad Boys 3 soon. He seems extremely excited to have the opportunity to be involved with Uncharted, though. The filmmaker went on to say:

“Archaeology today is in itself an antiquity, but that world has always fascinated me. Especially when you go to a museum today and wonder how a piece got there to begin with. Plus, the property itself is so popular that it was hard to turn down an opportunity to work on it.”

Carnahan's films are a blast to watch, so there's no doubt that he'll give us something thrilling. I do hope that he sticks to the vibe of the games and what makes them so awesome. David O. Russell and Mark Wahlberg were previously attached to the project at one point, and I would have loved to see Russell's take on the property, but that ship has sailed.

The story for the game focuses on a treasure hunter named Nate Drake, who is a descendent of explorer Sir Francis Drake. He believes he has learned the location of the legendary golden South American city of El Dorado from a cursed statue. While on his search El Dorado, things take a turn when a rival treasure hunter joins in on the search. Along the way, Drake faces crazy creatures, mutated descendants of Spaniards, and even Nazis.

Previous scripts for the film were written by Mark Boal (Zero Dark Thirty) and Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (National Treasure). Do you think that Carnahan is the right guy to take a crack at the script for Uncharted

The latest episode of Naruto Shippuden finally gave fans a moment from the manga they've been waiting a very long time for. Kotaku says last year the manga gave us an unfiltered look at Kakashi Hatake's face, and now the show has finally given us an animated look at the ninja instructor's dashing goods looks.

Are you ready for this? Here you go.

This is a big anime moment for me. Bigger than, dare I say, when we finally saw Brock open his eyes.

What other big mysteries of anime are we waiting to be revealed?

Marvel Action Figures for Netflix’s The Punisher and Jessica Jones

It looks like the characters from Marvel’s Netflix series are getting their own action figures. Hasbro revealed figures at Comic-Con last week for Jessica Jones and The Punisher. I’m surprised that there’s not a Daredevil figure here. I'm sure it will follow, along with Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and more, but this is what they’ve revealed so far. Each of the figures wonderfully captures the character. There’s no other information on the figures yet, but they are definitely coming.

Check Out Karl Urban’s New Look for Skurge in THOR: RAGNAROK

Karl Urban was awesomely cast in the role of Skurge the Executioner in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, and today we have a photo from the actor that shows us Urban’s drastic new look for the role. As you can see, Urban is definitely looking like a complete badass. It will be cool to see what his costume looks like. The image below came with the caption: "Thanks for the haircut !!@TaikaWaititi @thorofficial"

Skurge is an Asgardian warrior who was an enemy of Thor in the comics but eventually fought alongside Thor. In a previous interview Urban talked about the character saying:

“The character is fantastic. He's got a great arc to him. Obviously, I can't say too much about it, but I'm really thrilled to be a part of the Marvel universe and to be working on Thor: Ragnarok."

We saw some incredibly cool concept art for the film at Comic-Con last week. A lot of it focused on Thor and Hulk. Thor had short hair and Hulk was wearing his Planet Hulk battle armor, and we even saw an image of him battling a giant flaming beast! It was pretty awesome.

Thor: Ragnarok started shooting on July 4th, 2016, at Village Roadshow Studios in Oxenford, Gold Coast, Queensland in Australia. Filming will also take place throughout Queensland, in Brisbane, and in Sydney, and is expected to continue through October 2016.

The movie will be released in theaters on November 3rd, 2017.

The Secret History of Cosplay Explored in Fantastic Video Presentation

$
0
0

Did you know cosplaying did not start off in Japan? Well, I didn’t. The word "cosplay" was invented by a Japanese reporter sent to the '84 WorldCon held in Los Angeles. He made the word cosplay to describe what he saw at the Con, people dressing up in costumes taking the words costume and play. Mashing them together he made the word ‘cosplay.’

The very first cosplays were actually sci-fi related, and the very first documented cosplayer was actually Forry Ackerman in 1939 at WorldCon (Science Fiction Convention) held in New York City. His sci-fi costume was a sensation at the con.

When Ackerman returned to the con 17 years later, everybody was dressed up like he was 17 years ago. Cosplaying went from sci-fi to comic books in the 1970s. Then cosplaying went global with the rise of anime and video games in the 1980s. Japan then became the center of the cosplaying universe, making cosplay today a multibillion dollar industry.

Sure, not everyone is a fan of it, though. Columnist James Pethokoukis thinks cosplay is bad for the US economy because it encourages young people to escape from reality instead of finding work (Even though there are actually cosplayers making money from it).

“When you’re disillusioned with the reality of your early adult life, dressing up like Doctor Who starts looking better and better.” ~ James Pethokoukis.

There are a lot of reasons people cosplay, though. It helps boost self confidence, many find it a form of art, others do it to pay bills, but for many, it’s the community that comes with cosplay and it does help people escape from the real world. But I mean, is that really a bad thing?
