Why Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider Was Chosen for AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

It was officially announced at Comic-Con that Ghost Rider will be making his debut in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The version of the character they will be using in the series is Robbie Reyes, not the original Johnny Blaze version. Either way, it’s a version of Ghost Rider, and fans seems to be pretty excited about his inclusion in the series. The character will play a big role in the upcoming season, and in an interview with ComicBook.com, Executive Producer Jeph Loeb talked about his excitement about using the character in the series and explained why they went with the Reyes version of the character.

“It’s incredibly exciting, and I know a lot of people were speculating on it. Not only is it exciting to be able to tell people that it's Robbie Reyes, but that we have this unbelievably cool car, that 1969 black Charger that’s still on the floor of the convention, and then on top of that that we’ve just announced that Gabriel Luna, who is an extremely talented young actor who people may know from Matador on El Rey. It’s going to be a hell of a season.”

In case you missed the reveal of the 1969 black Charger, you can check it out here along with a promo teaser for the character. Loeb went on to explain why the creative team behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to go with Reyes:

“We picked Robbie, actually, because our show, at the end of day, is always about family, and the fact that Robbie’s relationship with Gabe [Robbie’s developmentally disabled brother] is so much a part of his character, and the world of east LA, which is not a place that we’ve ever gone to in the Marvel universe, was just a really exciting way.”

I’ll admit, I was kind of hoping for Johnny Blaze, but it makes sense that they would go with Reyes. I don’t think Marvel Studios would have allowed them to use Blaze in the first place. Using Reyes leaves the option open for a Ghost Rider movie with Blaze if the studio decides to do that one day. If they ended up using that character in the series, the possibility of a movie with him is basically gone.

Robbie Reyes is a solid character, though, and it will be interesting to see how exactly he’s portrayed in the series and how they will utilize him.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC on September 20th, 2016.

First Footage of JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Animated Movie Featured in Sneak Peek Video

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a sneak peek video for DC Entertainment’s upcoming animated film project Justice League Dark. Guillermo del Toro was working on a live-action feature film version of this for years, but it looks like the studio opted to do something different with it, and it looks like it could be a lot of fun, but not as awesome as what Del Toro would have done with it.

The video features interviews with the talented crew that are currently working on the film, and it offers us our first look at some of the footage that has already been completed and some concept art. The film includes characters like John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, Black Orchid, and more. Creative Director Mike Carlin talks about the film in the video saying:

“Justice League Dark is what it sounds like. It’s the dark side of justice. A group of supernatural heroes who band together loosely to take on occult threats, supernatural threats, threats that the real Justice League may be powerless against.”

The classic Justice League characters like Batman and Green Lantern will also be making an appearance in the film. Carlin goes on to say:

“The mainstream heroes are not the right guys for the job. These are not guys who go to meetings and sit around a table. They kind of appear and disappear when needed.”

Producer James Tucker also talks about the supernatural team and how they are viewed by others when they show up to help:

“It’s a Justice League movie, but it’s not....They don’t look like your typical superheroes. They’re outcasts. No one is happy when they show up. If anything, with Justice League Dark, everyones' frightened when they show up. They misunderstand them, so having monstrous people do heroic things is always kind of cool.”

I’ve always liked these characters, and it’s great to see them coming together in a new animated film. Justice League Dark is being directed by Jay Oliva, and it will hit Blu-Ray, DVD, and VOD later this fall.

Director Jon Watts on Why The Vulture Is the Villain in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

We’ve already had a taste of what Spider-Man will be like in the MCU, but I’m extremely curious to see how Marvel handles The Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. We got a really quick glimpse of him in action in the footage that was screened at Comic-Con, but there’s still no word on who exactly is playing him, or how he will tie into the story.

There are rumors that Michael Keaton is playing the character, but that has not been confirmed, so we’ll just have to wait and see. While we wait, director Jon Watts talked about why they chose The Vulture to be the main villain of the story. This is what he told ComicBook.com in a recent interview:

"Well, we wanted to sort of go back to the origins of what made Spider-Man and Peter Parker so unique you know, and that's why we just sort of really doubled down on the idea that he is a kid. He is a high school student in this crazy universe. He has to keep his identity a secret, which a lot of the other characters in the MCU don't, um, and just, in general, going back to those origins ya know. The Vulture is really the first supervillain that Spider-Man ever fights in Amazing Spider-Man, the second issue, after the chameleon, so it just felt like the right thing to do, to go back to the roots in that way."

There are a ton of villains that they could have chosen from, but I’m happy that The Vulture is the character they went with. Watts also said that one of the other reasons they picked him was because it could offer some cool visuals during the fight sequences:

"We talked about a lot of different things but The Vulture always sort of rose to the top and just the opportunity to have Spider-Man versus a guy that can fly really lends itself to some pretty cool visuals."

We got a little taste of what one of these scenes could look like thanks to some concept art that was released, but I’m excited to see what some of these visuals look like on the big screen. Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7th, 2017.

The showrunner for CBS's new show Star Trek: DiscoveryBryan Fuller, hosted a panel with William Shatner, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, Jeri Ryan, and Scott Bakula inside Hall H during San Diego Comic-Con. The former cast members talk about their experiences in the production of their shows and social impact Star Trek has had on culture. Fuller dropped some hints about Discovery and what it might be about. The biggest revelation was its structure and the title of the show. If you haven't seen the teaser trailer for Star Trek: Discovery, watch it here.

STRANGER THINGS Side-By-Side Comparison with Movie Inspirations from the '70s and '80s

If you are a fan of the new Netflix series Stranger Things, you have got to check out this video that offers a visual side-by-side comparison of the series with scenes from the several classic sci-fi, horror, and adventure films from the '70s and '80s that inspired it. The series perfect captured everything that I loved about growing up in that magical movie era.

The films included in the video are The Goonies, E.T., Alien, Firestarter, Poltergeist, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Shining, Stand By Me, Carrie, A Nightmare on Elm StreetCommando, and even Explorers, which was a favorite film of mine when I was a kid. It's really cool to see scenes from these movies compared to scenes from Stranger Things. Enjoy the video!

SAMURAI JACK’s Comic-Con Footage Proves The New Series Will Be Ultra Badass!

I had the opportunity to attend the Samurai Jack panel at Comic-Con this past weekend, and if you are a fan of the franchise, you are going to absolutely love what Genndy Tartakovsky is doing for the return of the series!

Tartakovsky is going to take this series to a whole new level and is going to cross lines that have never been crossed in the series before. With the series set to continue on Adult Swim, there’s a lot they can do that they couldn’t do before.

While talking about the series Tartakovsky showed off an animatic of the first scene of the first episode of the upcoming series. He explained that as the images played out on the screen he was going to pitch it to the audience the same way that he would pitch it to the studio. It was incredibly entertaining, and it’s one of those things you just had to be there for to really appreciate. Tartakovsky was so into it and the crowd exploded in laughter and cheers as he pitched the scene.

In the scene a alien mother and daughter are being hunted down by a horde of villainous beetles. As the beetles surround them, the mother and daughter speak to each other in the form of emoji symbols between their antenna’s on their head.

As they are saying good-bye to each other, there’s a rumbling in the distance, and we see the silhouette of a warrior riding on a motorcycle coming in to save the day. The warrior is wearing this elaborate armor and a helmet with long horns coming out of the top of them. The beetle’s heads turn and look as he rides in to greet them and from there the warrior just goes ballistic!

He just starts tearing into the beetles and brutally destroying them. The warrior has a spear with razor sharp places on one end and an electric shocking device on the other, and he’s just rocking their world. At one point we see him stick the spear into one of the petals and the shot follows the spear into the guts. It cuts back to the warrior twisting the spear then cuts back to the insides as we see the guts bloodily twisted. The warrior then pulls out the spear with an explosion of blood.

As the warrior is fighting, his helmet gets knocked off, and we come to learn the the warrior is Jack, forty years older, with long hair and a beard. We’ve already seen a image of him and he is freakin’ badass! Jack continues to fight, and at another point he gets on his burly motorcycle and as he pops it up for a wheelie the front tire ejects some crazy looking spikes. He then proceeds to rev the engine as the front wheel spins wildly onto the head of one of these beetles and he just completely obliterates it!

After Jack has demolished the horde of beetles, he picks up his helmet, puts it on, and rides off into the sunset without saying a single word to the mother and daughter. They are just left there among the blood and guts of their dead attackers. The little girl thanks Jack with her emoji talk as he rides away.

I really wish you could see that all for yourself because it was pretty damn epic. Like I said, they take Samurai Jack to a new level of insanity that fans of the series are going to love. The wanted to do something special and different with the series, and it looks like they succeeded in that.

They talked about the series during the panel and explained that they’ve allowed time to pass and they wanted to come a different point in Jack’s life. They explained that he’s been on a quest for so long and this series will pick up at the tail end of this quest. Jack is feeling lost in this world, and they are going to play with what is going on in his head. They also talked a lot about being inventive with the style of the new series and being bold by trying new things that they didn’t do before.

The panel ended with an actual animated clip from the series in which we see a group of Aku worshipers in a cave/temple wearing black cloaks. There is a woman giving birth on a rock and over the course of the scene she gives birth to seven babies who are all laid out on an alter in front of an Aku shrine. The woman giving birth is screaming and the babies are crying. The woman who lays the babies on the alter says, “Seven daughters to do your bidding master. They will succeed where so many others have failed and we will find favor in your glory.” That's where the clip ends.

So much greatness awaits fans of this series and what we saw was just a little taste of what is to come! I can’t wait to see the return of Samurai Jack

Watch: RICK AND MORTY's Hilarious Recreation of a Completely Bonkers Court Transcript

0
0

Last month, you might have seen a court transcript making the rounds on the internet because of the totally insane, vulgar statements made between a defendant and his judge in Georgia. This has to be one of the most outrageous transcripts in American history, with the defendant telling the judge to "suck [his] dick" multiple times, dropping F-bombs left and right, and the judge telling him he "looks like a queer" and demanding that the defendant jack off in front of him in the courtroom. You can read the entire thing here, but instead of doing that, you should really watch this video from the Rick and Morty panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which hilariously recreated the scene using animatics of the show's main characters — complete with voices done by co-creator Justin Roiland. There's a very good chance you won't see anything funnier for the rest of the day.

Warning: this is extremely NSFW.

James McAvoy Has Multiple Personalities in Trailer For M. Night Shyamalan's New Thriller SPLIT

Universal Pictures has just released the first trailer, teaser poster, and images for M. Night Shyamalan's newest movie, Split. James McAvoy stars as a man with multiple personalities who kidnaps three young girls (led by Anya Taylor-Joy from The Witch) for mysterious reasons. It looks like a combination of 10 Cloverfield Lane and Psycho, and I can see why McAvoy would want to be a part of this because it looks like it gives him plenty of room to explore fascinating new territory as an actor. I'm not quite sure what to make of this, but Shyamalan has reunited with Blumhouse Productions for this movie, and that worked well for him with The Visit last year, so maybe his comeback will continue here.

Split hits theaters on January 20, 2017.

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs with Split, an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind.  Following last year’s breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, The Gift) for the film.
While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.
Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others.  Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

Paul Feig Producing Drug-Fueled Survival Story SUPERMODEL SNOWPOCALYPSE

Paul Feig, who produced Freaks and Geeks and currently has his take on Ghostbusters in theaters, has lined up a crazy new project. It's a movie called Supermodel Snowpocalypse, and it's based on an Elle article that tells the wild true story of a group of models, photographers, and executives who traveled to Chile in 1977 for a photoshoot. A snowstorm locked them all in the resort for a week with no phone access, so they basically threw a cocaine-fueled party, complete with a makeshift fashion show, gambling, and, of course, sex. Eventually they started to concoct an escape plan...but you either wait for the movie or read more in the article if you're interested in how it ended.

THR reports that Feig will not direct, but he'll produce the movie for Paramount. The story seems tailor made for the big screen, and we'll keep you updated with news about casting, writers, and a director as soon as we hear it.

Video: The Root of BATMAN V SUPERMAN's Failure is Not Lack of Comedy

I'm a big fan of YouTuber Nerdwriter1 and his analysis on films. Typically he brings ideas to the table that I never previously thought about, but make sense when I hear them. In his latest video, he talks about how people are proclaiming Justice League is a win solely because it has the humor that Batman v Superman lacked.

Nerdwriter says the problems with Batman v Superman didn't lie with taking itself too seriously, but rather that the film is built around moments as opposed to scenes that propel the story forward. Looking at the film now, I can agree with that. The plot takes a backseat to some of the film's larger moments. Batman and Superman meeting for the first time, the first battle, the end...the scenes serve as minimal snippets to fill until the next moment in the film.

While I'm not going to deny I really liked the Justice League trailer, it does leave me wondering if humor is enough to bring this film together in the long run.

THE SIMPSONS Are Doing an ADVENTURE TIME Crossover and a POKEMON GO Episode

The Simpsons team have no plans of slowing down as the show heads into its 28th season! Entertainment Weekly reports that the team has big plans for a Robot Chicken couch gag, a Pokemon Go episode, and even a crossover with Adventure Time!

The Pokemon Go episode is still being pitched, but was teased earlier this month with a clip showing Homer playing the game:

The Adventure Time crossover appears to be a couch gag as well, with the beginning of the show becoming the intro to Adventure Time, but "Simpsonized." Guest stars for this season include Patton Oswalt, Allison Janney, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and former NFL Quarterback Matt Leinart.

Pretty exciting stuff if you're still following the show! I don't keep up with it as much as I used to, but I manage to catch the marathons on FX every so often! What about you?

BLACK MIRROR and POKEMON GO Collide in Amazing Video

Black Mirror is a show that focuses on our technology-obsessed world and shows us the consequences certain technology can have on our lives — for better or worse. If you've never seen the show, it's usually for worse. Patrick Willems captures the show's style amazingly well and blends it with Pokemon Go for a dark look at how our obsession can lead us down dark paths.

It's not going to stop me from playing anytime soon, but it is pretty hilarious! Watch it below.

STARTUP Trailer: Martin Freeman Tries to Take Down a Tech Company in New TV Show

0
0

Here's the first trailer for StartUp, a new TV series starring Martin Freeman about the rise of a tech company putting forth a new digital currency (with obvious similarities to Bitcoin). It's set in Miami and looks very stylish, but the biggest problem with it is that it's on Crackle, Sony's streaming network. I was about to complain about how I don't want to have to pay to subscribe to yet another service like that, but apparently Crackle is free (I don't currently watch anything on there, and I don't know if I ever have). So I guess the biggest problem is going to be remembering that this show exists in the first place and heading over to Crackle to check it out.

Here's the official synopsis, and let us know what you think about the trailer below.

Launching Tuesday, September 6, 2016, the 10-episode, one-hour series is set amongst the unconstrained, yet opportunistic streets of Miami and weaves a complex and exciting narrative, focusing on the high-stakes struggle of what one will do to reach ultimate success. But this is not your average startup incubator story. StartUp is about the emergence of GenCoin, a brilliant, yet controversial tech idea centered around digital currency-an idea that gets incubated on the wrong side of the tracks by three strangers who don’t necessarily fit the mold of “tech entrepreneurs” and a crooked FBI agent who will go to any length necessary to take them down.
Martin Freeman (“Fargo,” “Sherlock”) plays FBI agent Phil Rask, specializing in financial crimes. Rask crosses paths with Nick Talman, played by Adam Brody (“CHiPS,” “The League”), a sharp and intelligent financier at a boutique firm in Miami, but it’s not Talman that Rask is after–it’s his father. Nick has a problematic relationship with his wealthy, irresponsible father, who disappears and forces Nick to stash his ill-gotten gain—instead of going to the FBI, he decides to hide the money by investing in a tech startup pitched by the unorthodox Izzy Morales, a tech whiz out to change the world, played by Otmara Marrero (“Graceland”). Edi Gathegi (“The Blacklist,” Twilight) also stars in the series as Ronald Dacey – second-in-command of the local Haitian gang. When Ronald discovers that the money he left with Nick’s father has vanished, Ronald moves on to the next best thing—his son. An unexpected partnership forms between Ronald, Nick and Izzy which culminates in a dangerous alliance that make them a target for Rask (Freeman), who plans to take a journey to the very pit of darkness to take down the unsuspecting trio.
The cast also includes Wayne Knight (“Seinfeld”) who plays Benedict Blush, a wildly successful entrepreneur with blue collar sensibilities; and Aaron Yoo (21, “Blacklist”) who plays Alex Bell, a premiere tech venture capitalist that everyone wants in their corner.

Some things in this world are just too beautiful for words. This isn't one of them, but it's damn close. Makeup artist Kiki G. turned herself into rough and tumble Pawnee legend and Parks and Recreation character Ron Swanson using a bit of makeup, a wig, and a fake mustache. She also posted a picture of her breastfeeding with the full face on, but I'm not going to share that. Some things are better left unseen.

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Season 5 Could Begin Filming in Early 2017

0
0

Ever since Netflix picked up Arrested Development and the lackluster and splintered fourth season hit the streaming service, fans have wanted to see if creator/showrunner Mitch Hurwitz could right the ship with new episodes. At one point we were theoretically supposed to see the fifth season right about now, but Hurwitz has promised that a fifth season will definitely happen, and now we have the latest update about when that might come to pass.

THR reports that Hurwitz was on a panel promoting another show at the Television Critics Association press tour, and the first question out of the gate was about Arrested Development.

"Of course that's what we're here to discuss," Hurwitz cracked, before giving a hopefully nebulous answer.
"We're very close," Hurwitz promised. "It's a thing I really am desperate to do. We've got a lot of the stories broken. We're kinda ready to go. I'm so appreciative of the fans wanting more, I hate to tease them with information that there is going to be more until we know for sure, but it's what we're trying to accomplish and if does happen it looks like shooting would be at the start of 2017. That's what I'm hoping."

The idea of them being "ready to go" sounds like the scripts are all in place, so that's a great sign. My biggest hope is that he's learned from the mistakes of the fourth season and will convince Netflix to pay the cast enough money to carve out time to shoot the new episodes together instead of separately. There were moments in the fourth season in which an actor was green-screened into a group scene because of all of the scheduling problems they had, and that really hurt the chemistry between actors that made the show so great to begin with.

Geek Nostalgia: Celebrating 11 Years of ASK A NINJA

0
0

Can you believe it's been 11 years (I missed the boat on the 10 year anniversary) since the start of Ask A Ninja?! Think of what a different place the world was back in 2005. First off, I remember first watching his videos on my friend's iPod because subscribing to iTunes videos was a thing. I also remember Naruto was hitting its American spike in popularity, which is why we were so obsessed with ninja stuff to begin with.

Ask A Ninja had relatively little to do with ninja culture. It was comedian Douglas Sarine dressed as a ninja and making waves in the new genre of "vodcasting" with the help of his friend Kent Nichols. At the height of their popularity in 2007, the two were making $100,000 a month in ad revenue!

The show was known for its quick biting humor, erratic camera angles, and that ridiculously catchy song:

They even did a collaboration with Mythbusters!

Since then, the show has suffered a stumble of sorts. They attempted a relaunch in 2010 with moderate success, but nothing near the levels they first achieved. The last video was published over a year ago and has a widely different style than when it first launched:

Who knows why the show suffered a decline? Maybe ninjas aren't as popular as they once were? Maybe the ninja went into hiding after the bright lights of Hollywood became too much? Here's what I do know: with all the issues happening in 2016, I need to ask a ninja questions more than I ever have before. WHERE ARE YOU?!

Gareth Edwards and Kathleen Kennedy Deny That Han Solo ROGUE ONE Rumor

0
0

The production of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story included some reshoots not too long ago, and a rumor popped up that Alden Ehrenreich's young Han Solo would be included in that movie. It was the kind of rumor that seemed 100% plausible even though it wasn't confirmed: Rogue One takes place just before A New Hope, and with Ehrenreich signing a three-picture deal with Disney and Lucasfilm, maybe Rogue One would end up being one of those three.

But now director Gareth Edwards has stepped up to squash that rumor before it goes any further. In an interview with Extra (via /Film), he flatly denied that Han Solo would appear in his film:

If for some reason you don't believe him, how about hearing it from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy herself?

Sure, they could by lying to us about this. But Kennedy is incredibly intelligent, and she has to be aware of the backlash that her Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams received when he took that tack with fans about Star Trek Into Darkness, so I don't think she'd see any upside to lying like that.

So I think it's safe to, as Edwards says, put this one to bed. And from the look of it, Rogue One is going to be just fine without Han Solo anyway, so I don't think they even need him in the first place.
