GODZILLA: RESURGENCE Will Get Released in the U.S. Thanks to Funimation

A couple of days ago an awesome new trailer was released for Toho's Godzilla: Resurgence that got fans insanely excited to see the film. At the time, I wasn't sure when or if the film would get released in the U.S., but thanks to Funimation that will happen! It was announced during the Funimation panel at Comic-Con yesterday. Gen Fukunaga, CEO and President of Funimation had this to say in a statement:

“Funimation is extremely pleased to be working with Toho to bring Shin Godzilla to audiences across the Americas. Godzilla became a science fiction icon from the moment Toho brought it to the big screen in 1954. We’re honored to be a part of its rich history."

Mike DuBoise, EVP and COO of Funimation added:

Shin Godzilla represents a brand new chapter in the 62-year history of this iconic science fiction monster. We’re excited to bring audiences this new vision of Godzilla from Toho as reimagined by directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi.”

Godzilla: Resurgence will be the 29th Godzilla film from Toho, and it looks like it could be one of the best. I also absolutely love the insane new design for the creature.

Godzilla: Resurgence was directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, who directed the live-action Attack on Titan movies. The movie is set to be released in Japan on July 29th, 2016. There's no specific U.S. release date yet, but it will happen later this year and I can't wait to see it!

Photos of the Awesome Action Figures from the Sideshow Collectibles Booth at Comic-Con

Every year at Comic-Con I have to stop at the Sideshow Collectibles booth to see what action figures and statues that they are showing off. They always manage to impress, and this year, once again, that’s exactly what they did. There were a ton of awesome collectibles on display, so, of course, I had to take a bunch of photos. They’ve got figures for Batman, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Daredevil, Deadpool, Suicide Squad team members, Ant-Man, and more. There are even some new photos of Joker's new look in Suicide Squad at the very end. Sideshow seriously has a great collection this year, and every image that you see below is of a figure that I would love to add to my collection. Of course, I’d have to be rich to afford them all, so these photos will have to keep me happy until I win the lottery one day.

JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE Coming to Toonami in October

Get ready for action, excitement, and nonstop "To Be Continued..." memes. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is coming to Toonami this October. Toonami will air the first part of the highly acclaimed series, which has skyrocketed in popularity in the past couple years.

I loved the first couple seasons of the show, and then it got a bit goofy for me. Really what I didn't like is that they changed the ending theme from Yes's "Roundabout"  to "Walk Like An Egyptian." Look at these end credits though...it's legendary.

Seriously though, the series has some really entertaining story lines and is worth a watch. I don't want to give away too much, but this is a story that spans generations. It'll be worth your time!

The New POWER RANGERS Movie Will Include Dinozords and Alpha 5

Thanks to Nerdist we've learned some new details regarding the upcoming Power Rangers movie. It was confirmed in a video they released that Alpha 5 and the Dinozords will appear in the movie! How freakin' cool is that?!

For those of you who need a refresher, Alpha 5 is Zordon's annoying saucer robot assistant who is best known for his cry of "Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi!" It will be interesting to see how the character is implemented into this film because it's going to have a darker, more serious tone than the original series.

As for the Dinozords, they were the first zords used by the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.  The rangers called on them whenever Rita Repulsa grew her monsters into giants after the team of heroes beat them in their normal size. The Zord lineup will likely include the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Mastodon, Pterodactyl, Triceratops, and a Saber-Toothed Tiger.

The more that I learn about this film, the more excited I get about seeing the movie. I can't wait to watch a trailer for it, so we can see what exactly we're in for. For more information on the movie click here.

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

The Rangers include Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, and Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger. Elizabeth Banks also stars in the movie as the main villain Rita Repulsa, and Bryan Cranston is playing Zordon.

The Power Rangers will jump into action when the movie is released on March 24th, 2017.

Warner Bros. Animation released the first trailer for their upcoming new series Justice League Action, and this show actually looks like it's going to be a ton of fun! This trailer is awesome and it's packed with all kinds of great surprises! There's a lot of action, silly humor, and ridiculousness, which l enjoyed about the trailer. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started watching this thing and I was shocked by how entertaining it was.

This series looks like it could be a hit. It has a fun classic feel to it and features characters like Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Firestorm, Lobo, The Joker, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Plastic Man, The Riddler, Supergirl, Atrocitus, Vixen, Mr. Freeze, Swamp Thing, and more!

Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman lead the DC Comics Super Heroes against their most infamous foes in adventures packed with relentless thrills, fun and action. No need to wait for the good stuff to start, each eleven-minute episode jumps in with lightning-paced action and heroics. Yesterday's panel for FX's vampire series The Strain brought many surprises, but this was by far the most unexpected. Kevin Durand, David Bradley, and Miguel Gomez all got together and did this ridiculous music video for the show, which is meant to be tongue in cheek, but it is SO WEiRD!

It's also pretty funny if you're a fan of the show to see these guys acting like this. See the video below.

Trailer For Final Season of TEEN WOLF is as Awful as The Panel

In order to get a good seat for the Luke Cage panel, I had to sit through a grueling hour-long panel for MTV's Teen Wolf. I never watched the show, but after an hour listening to Tyler Posey scream, throw up metal fingers, and swear at the audience, I don't think I'm ever going to. If you're interested in a trailer for what will be the show's final season, here you go.

I have absolutely nothing against you if you like the show, but man, that panel was about the worst thing I've ever sat through. Tyler Posey is an insufferable dude, and I don't think he was silent for more than 15 seconds throughout the entire thing. I really can't even do justice to how bad he truly was. Let's just say I'm glad to see the show go and I've never seen it.

Kristen Bell Teases a VERONICA MARS Mini-Series

I missed out on Veronica Mars when the show was originally airing, but a few years later, when I caught wind of what the series was about, I tore through the DVD box set of the entire series and loved it. The show was unlike anything else that was on TV at the time, blending film noir tropes with a high school setting that reminded me a little of a poppier version of Rian Johnson's Brick.

Then the Kickstarter-funded movie came out a couple of years ago, and as much as I wanted to love diving back into that world, it seemed to have lost something. I'm not sure if it's as simple as the cast got a little older so some of the novelty of seeing a young private eye wore off, but this felt like a made-for-TV fan-fic movie that didn't quite have the spark I was hoping to see. Still, that doesn't mean we're done with Veronica forever, and after the spin-off webseries, last year Rob Thomas spoke briefly about the idea of bringing the series back for a limited run. Now, star Kristen Bell is echoing those sentiments and (half-heartedly) keeping fan's hopes alive. In an interview with TVLine, she said:

“Yes, well, yes. You know I want to be up front, because that’s how we are with our fans. We’re not going to be clandestine and try and keep it from everybody. Rob [Thomas, show creator] and I definitely want to make more Veronica Mars. There are a variety of variables, like my tv contract, his tv contract, what platforms will allow us to do something truncated, like 6 episodes or 8 episodes that won’t demand a full 22, so there’s a variety of things we have to consider. But we are definitely striving to do it again and I think the idea that is bouncing around right now is some sort of miniseries that we can put on a platform that would have us. And obviously if the audience still wants it, because Rob and I definitely want to do it.”

Personally, as much as I like and respect everyone involved in the franchise, I think I'm sort of done with Veronica Mars at this point. I'll always have the original show to fondly look back on, and I feel like dragging it back may damage its legacy even more than the movie did. What do you think?

WONDER WOMAN: Gal Gadot Unveils Colorful New Poster

Power. Grace. Wisdom. Wonder.

These four words emblazoned on this brand new Wonder Woman poster set a remarkably different tone than what we've seen in the DC Extended Universe so far (and what I imagine we'll see in Suicide Squad, if the trailers accurately represent the final film). Not only that, but while Man of Steel and BVS had a darker color palette and Suicide Squad looks like the offspring of a neon sign factory and a Hot Topic, this poster appears to have some primary colors in it. Hopefully we see a trailer at the WB panel tomorrow.

Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 2, 2017.

CBS' MACGYVER Reboot Looks Craptacular — SDCC Panel Reaction

$

When you think of the name MacGyver, the image that comes to mind is the beautiful feathered mullet of one Richard Dean Anderson making amazing things out of next to nothing. That was the beauty of the show: regardless of what peril RDA was facing, you always believed that he was MacGyver and he would get out of the situation because he was MacGyver. Now we have a new MacGyver, played by the one and only Lucas Till (who played Havok in the most recent X-Men films). Let me tell you, it looks horrible.

Let me start out saying that the MacGyver reboot will be on CBS, so maybe I am not old enough to truly enjoy the slower action sequences and soft hitting humor that the octogenarians that actually watch this channel love and deserve. I fully understand that I sound bitter and I admit I am. I spent all day in Ballroom 20 listening to the drivel that CBS was spewing and I can’t get that time back. ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS WATCH THE LUKE CAGE PANEL! However, after watching the MacGyver panel I feel the need to warn those out there that despite all the hype that they are going to throw at us soon, it won’t be worth it. Please don’t be fooled that they got James Wan to direct the SECOND pilot for this series. If you saw a preview for this show a few months ago, you can forget about that because that has been scrapped and a new pilot has been filmed. If you were wondering if it is THAT James Wan, you would be correct. The guy who brought us Saw, Furious 7, and The Conjuring is now trying to bring us a new version of MacGyver. The panel consisted of Wan, George Eads, Lucas Till, and Peter Lenkov.

So this is what I have gathered so far from this show. The two lead actors, Till and George Eads, seem to genuinely get along and enjoy working with each other. However, that is where my good feelings for the show end. They showed us a clip from the reboot pilot, and it was on the level of a first-year film student. It shows MacGyver running to catch up with an airplane as it was taking off — yup, that happened. Once he has caught up with the plane as it taken off, we get a lovely narration of how he was a kid and climbed a tree and now he is scared of heights. BLAH! Once the monologue was over and the plane had been in the air with Mac in the wheel well for like three minutes, he finally pulls out his trusty pocket knife and proceeds to cut a wire that looks like every other wire but that specific one makes it so the plane must land. When the plane has touched down and is to an almost complete stop, Mac jumps from the wheel well and does one of the worst rolls ever caught on film. Luckily for us, that is all they showed. I don’t think I could handle any more excitement.

All in all, I can safely say that MacGyver is going to be CBS’s newest hit and the old people of the world will rejoice. I, however, will never put myself through that pain again. At least until I am 80 and CBS will be all that I know.

Batman Teams With The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a New Comic

Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been staples of entertainment for years. Through multiple generations, the two properties have evolved, adapted, and thrived for new audiences, delighting kids and adults alike with movies, TV shows, live stage shows, and every conceivable marketing opportunity under the sun. But they both started as comic books, and now the two will join forces in the pages of a brand new comic series called Batman/TMNT Adventures.

Nerdist brings the news, and they describe the story like this:

The story will follow Batman, in the style we know and love from Batman: The Animated Series, in his pursuit of his usual band of foes after they break free—as they always seem to do—from the confines of Arkham Asylum. The assorted criminals will find their way across canons into New York City, where Bats will have no choice but to call upon the help of the pizza-loving goofballs devoted to keeping the Big Apple safe. It won’t only be Batman’s foes who stand in the way of justice, however; the Turtles’ collective of enemies will step in to ensure the longevity of this new taste of chaos. And of course, we’re likely to see some contribution from the heroes’ pals—perhaps Robin, Alfred, and Commissioner Gordon will lend a hand, ditto April O’Neil and Casey Jones.

Writer Matthew K. Manning and illustrator Jon Sommariva are teaming up to bring this crossover to the page, with the first issue of this six-issue limited series expected to debut on November 9, 2016. What do you think? Excited about the possibilities of these two franchises colliding?

Of all the places you shouldn't play Pokemon Go, this is probably one of them. AMC's The Walking Dead wrapped up its sixth season with its most controversial decision yet: the show ended on a cliffhanger: Negan killed someone, but the show refused to reveal who his victim was. Understandably, fans were not happy — Joey wrote an impassioned rant against it here — and now the network is continuing to tease fans with their new teaser trailer for season 7, which you can watch below:

I'm pretty sure a real full trailer will be coming during the show's Comic-Con panel, but in the meantime, sound off in the comments with your guesses of who bit the big one.

New DOCTOR STRANGE Banner and a Closer Look at the Eye of Agamotto

We already have some GeekTyrant staffers waiting in line to get into Comic-Con's famous Hall H for what's sure to be a packed day of entertainment tomorrow, but the cherry on top of the whole experience is sure to be the Marvel Studios panel tomorrow evening. The studio does a pretty good job of consistently making a huge impact on the fans by dropping new footage or making huge announcements about its upcoming schedule, so while we wait to see what they have in store for us this year, take a look at this new Doctor Strange banner from the folks at BadTaste. It (above) and a close up photo of Strange's Eye of Agamotto, which almost certainly doubles as the Time Stone in the MCU.

Stay tuned to GeekTyrant for much more from Comic-Con.

Marvel's THE DEFENDERS and THE AVENGERS Will Differ Greatly, Says Jeph Loeb

$

We're right in the middle of San-Diego Comic-Con, and juicy news is pouring out at a rampant pace. Along with new looks at Luke Cage and Iron Fist, we learned that Daredevil will be returning for a third season. We all know that The Defenders has been a planned series for Netflix, but while talking to Cinemablend, Marvel Studios' Head of Television Jeph Loeb shed some light on the much-anticipated series, and how exactly it will differ from the epic and grand-scale Avengers films.

"The question that we want people to ask is, 'What happens when these people meet each other?' Because they each look at the world in a very different way. So when that happens, that's ultimately what Defenders is all about. It's not about 'Who is the bad guy?' or 'What's at stake?' or any of those things. We're still working in a very real, grounded world. The sky is not going to open up, and aliens aren't going to come flying out of it. That's The Avengers job! That's what they're supposed to do."

He also goes on to praise Joss Whedon's films but explains how they're scaling it down for Netflix's thirteen episode team-up.

"The street level heroes always come from a very real place. If The Avengers are here to protect the universe -- and nobody loves those movies more than I do -- that's an epic, action-adventure story that has great humor and great pathos. What we're trying to do is tell stories about men and women who are here to save, in some cases, the neighborhood, and in some cases themselves. And if that's the case, and you're involved, and you'll stick around for 13 hours, that's an enormous commitment that we want!"

I find it pretty hard to believe that some neighborhood drama will warrant the gathering of this team, and I have to expect some sort of greater threat. It'll be pretty tough for a lot of people to invest in this if they're just beating on some normal thugs. I don't think the sky should open up or anything like that, but there was an undercurrent of mysticism in Daredevil season two that left us with the hint that some magical elements will be coming into play. Doctor Strange is also entering the MCU this year, which will certainly introduce us to some mind-bending magical and metaphysical elements that could tie in quite neatly to the shadowy group The Hand from Daredevil. Only time will tell, however, and there hasn't been much reason to lack faith. It's definitely exciting to hear some information on The Defenders, and it's good to hear that it's not going to be the same sort of team-up that we've already seen.

J.J. Abrams Says STAR TREK 4 Features His Favorite Story So Far

Days before Star Trek Beyond officially hit theaters, Paramount announced that they're making a sequel that will unite Chris Pine's Captain Kirk with his father, George Kirk. It's the role that launched Chris Hemsworth to international fame, and even though his character died in the opening minutes of 2009's Star Trek, he'll be back to reprise the role in the untitled Star Trek 4.

EW caught up with producer J.J. Abrams at Wednesday night's Comic-Con premiere of Beyond, and Abrams had some very interesting things to say about the story of the newly-announced fourth film: he said it's his "favorite Star Trek story that we've had."

"So one of the reasons I'm hoping [Star Trek Beyond] does well is so that we can, without question, get that movie made. It really is an amazing story. It's really the reason we made the deal with Chris Hemsworth as soon as we could because we really wanted that story to be told, so fingers crossed."

On one hand, it's a little odd to hear him come out and admit that the story for a movie they haven't made yet is better than the one he's currently promoting, because the general attitude in Hollywood is to just hype the thing that you're selling in that moment. But on the other, I guess he's sort of indirectly promoting Beyond by saying that the only way Star Trek 4 will actually get made is if people go see Beyond. Weird.

Are you looking forward to Star Trek 4? If you've seen Beyond, let us know what you think of that one as well. You can read my review here.

Let's Rank The New Comic-Con Posters For FANTASTIC BEASTS, SKULL ISLAND, and More

$

I must have missed the memo about Friday being the day studios release all of their Comic-Con posters. A ton of new posters have hit the web over the past few hours and instead of devoting a whole article to each one, I figured it would be vaguely entertaining to present them to you in a ranked format to switch things up a little bit. That way, you can argue with me about which ones you like better in the comments. Let's get on with it, then.

5. Kickboxer: Vengeance

I don't think this is technically a Comic-Con poster — I don't think Kickboxer: Vengeance has a presence in San Diego at all for this year's convention — but let's face it: when you try to enter the news cycle during Comic-Con, you're lucky if anyone pays attention at all. This one gets the bottom spot, and it should be thankful I included it at all.

4. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Guy Ritchie's new movie could go either way for me, and this poster appropriately reflects my half-and-half attitude towards the film. I'm not crazy about the white background and desaturated pic of Charlie Hunnam, but I like the font and I really dig the purple color, especially since you don't often see that almost lavender color used in movie posters these days. Points for originality in that department.

3. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Your mileage will vary on this one, but I'm personally not crazy about the art deco style in this context. Maybe it's all the harsh lines and strange emblems, but for some reason this one reminds me of Nazi imagery. That's crazy, I know, but hey, I'm just reciting my gut responses to you here.

2. The LEGO Batman Movie

Love this. I hope we see a lot of Will Arnett's Bruce Wayne in this film, because I want to see him play with the dichotomy of those personalities. Should be a lot of fun.

1. Kong: Skull Island

This one's the clear winner for me. Yeah, it's not much more than the motion poster that came out the other day, but that hulking Kong emerging through the shadows is badass, and that combination of green smoke and a puny human standing on top of a giant skull puts it over the top.

Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong in the comments below.
