Humor: Zach Woods Talks About Butt Chugging on CONAN

0
0

The guys of Silicon Valley were on Conan last night and, as usual, they were on fire! In this truly hilarious clip, Zach Woods (Jared) talks about wanting to incorporate the trend of "butt-chugging" onto the show.

I have to say, watching Conan during Comic-Con is definitely the best time to watch him if you typically don't. His guests are always top notch and he brings it for geeks all week! Great stuff!

JURASSIC WORLD 2 Returns to Hawaii to Start Filming in 2017

0
0

If you're director J.A. Bayona and you're making Jurassic World 2, I imagine you'd probably want to return to at least one of the franchise's iconic locations to give fans an update about what's happened in the wake of the previous film. According to Jurassic Outpost (via ComicBook), that appears to be the plan, because the production is slated to start shooting in February of 2017 back in Hawaii, which doubled for Isla Nublar in the films.

Jurassic World co-writer/director Colin Trevorrow, who is co-writing and producing this sequel, has said that this movie won't spend a bunch of time on the island like previous movies have because they want to change things up:

"We made [Jurassic World] with the fans very much in mind. And I’m not going to forget that, but we’ve seen a lot of ‘dinosaurs chasing people around on an island’ movies. And I think you guys and the general audience are going to be down to explore where else we can go. Owen is going to be in it, Claire is in it and neither are going to be in the same place we left them in the first movie. And even though Claire is the one who evolves the most over the trilogy, it’s her story that mirrors this changing world. Owen has shit to deal with. They’ve both opened Pandora’s Box in Jurassic World and both of them are responsible for different elements of it. And I think the way these characters are connected to these circumstances of what’s happening, it’s different than previous films. It’s not ‘let’s manufacture a way to get them somewhere’, they’re embedded into it now in a way that us storytellers are able to keep them involved without it feeling contrived."

He's also hinted at exploring the idea of open sourcing the process of dinosaur creation in a sequel, so maybe one of the sequel's characters returns to the island to get some samples or something along those lines. The production is supposedly going to film mainly in London this time around, but it appears that the island will at least be featured in some capacity, but it remains to be seen exactly how much it will factor into the new story. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will return to reprise their roles, but not much is officially known beyond that.

Jurassic World 2 hits theaters on June 22, 2018.

See a Smoky Motion Poster Teaser For KONG: SKULL ISLAND Before The Trailer Drops

Among the slate of Hollywood blockbusters that's been scheduled for the next few years, Kong: Skull Island ranks pretty high among the ones I'm most curious about. How will director Jordan Vogt-Roberts handle the transition between a small indie like The Kings of Summer and a mega-budgeted studio film? Will he become the next Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World), the next Josh Trank (Fantastic Four), or somewhere in between? Plus, he's gathered a hell of a cast for his movie, including Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and tons more.

Last night, the film's Twitter account released a quick motion poster teasing a reveal at this Saturday's Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Our team will be in Hall H for that, so stay tuned for more (and plenty more from Comic-Con) in the days to come!

AMERICAN GODS: Check Out The Starz Show's First Poster and a New Photo

0

Starz is bringing Neil Gaiman's American Gods to the small screen, and tons of photos and casting news have been rolling in over the past few months. EW has the latest pic, which features Ricky Whittle's Shadow Moon caressing his wife Laura, played by Sucker Punch star Emily Browning. In Gaiman's book, Laura dies very early on just as Shadow gets out of prison, but her death isn't the end of the character — she comes back to speak with Shadow as sort of an undead, decaying version of herself, and from the looks of that scar on her chest, it looks like the show is going to stick pretty close to the source material in that department.

For those who have no idea what American Gods is, here's the network's official description:

The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of biblical and mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.

Here's a brief quote from the guys running the new series:

“It was fun to take what Neil had created for Laura in the book and imagine her point of view from the scenario that she was in now. One of my favorite times collaboratively on this is when Michael and I were first talking about crafting and expanding Laura’s story, because it felt like we had been handed the baton of her character and could run,” says [executive producer Bryan] Fuller. “She’s always been a source of joy with this show because [executive producer Michael [Green] and I are so in sync with who she is and what she should be and what we can say through her. And the really magical thing was sitting down with Emily and hearing her perspective because I think she gave us permission to go places that we had tested but were cautious about in our approach.”

Additionally, Starz released the first poster for the show in anticipation of their Comic-Con panel tomorrow afternoon. Check that out below. American Gods will premiere sometime in 2017.

Comic-Con Mondo Posters For Captain America and Ant-Man Revealed

It is upon us again! San Diego Comic-Con is underway and with it comes many treasures and treats, especially if you're fortunate enough to attend (which, sigh, I'm not). The super talented artists at Mondo have revealed some new posters featuring the Marvel Studios films Captain America: The First Avenger and Ant-Man. If you're interested in purchasing any of these amazing prints, you can head over to the Mondo Booth on the show floor. It must be said that all of these are exclusively available at Comic-Con this week!

The first in the gallery below is a really cool poster featuring Captain America from The First Avenger standing among some rubble and looking all bad-ass. I think he's actually looking right through my soul...

This poster was designed by Rory Kurtz, and it's limited to 350 copies at $50 each.

After that, we have a Captain America poster was created by Stan and Vince. It's another death-stare from pre-Cap suit Steve Rogers, but this time, he's breaking though some rubble while leading The Howling Commandos to, well, kill some Nazis, presumably. This one will be limited to only 175 copies, and sells for $75.

Another variation on this poster is basically the same but features Steve in full Captain America mode, will also be available to the public via online release sometime in the near future.

Then there's the first of two posters created by Ken Taylor featuring Ant-Man in all of his tiny glory. Be warned, however, if you're interested in purchasing the print: it's limited to only 175 prints, selling for $75 each. The first of the Ant-Man prints will only be available at Comic-Con, but like its Captain America companion, the alternate will be released to the general public in the near future.

There you go, folks! If you have tickets to Comic-Con be sure to stop by the Mondo Booth to grab your exclusive prints before they're gone! Remember, it's a limited supply so start sprinting, like now!

Oliver Stone's SNOWDEN Gets a Massively Improved Comic-Con Trailer

0
0

Inexplicably, Oliver Stone's Snowden had a presentation in Hall H at Comic-Con earlier this afternoon. It's not exactly the type of movie I'd expect to really bowl over the geek crowd, but I have to admit, this brand new trailer for the movie is a hell of an improvement over the previous marketing materials for it. I still think the slowed down cover of "When The Saints Go Marching In" is a terrible song choice, but that's largely because I'm over that entire cliche of slowed down covers in movie trailers as a whole, not because this trailer chose a song that didn't line up with its thematics or anything. (Still, I can't help but feel like we should all just go watch the excellent Oscar-winning documentary Citizenfour instead of this version of the story.)

In any case, Snowden — which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Tom Wilkinson, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Rhys Ifans, and Nicolas Cage — hits theaters on September 16, 2016.

Luc Besson’s Sci-Fi Film VALERIAN Kicks Ass at Comic-Con and Gets a Standing Ovation

luc-bessons-sci-fi-film-valerian-kicks-ass-at-comic-con-and-gets-a-standing-ovation

Luc Besson, the director behind films such as The Professional and The Fifth Element, has a new sci-fi film coming out next year called Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Besson took the stage this afternoon for the first time ever in Hall H at Comic-Con and he was welcomed with open arms.

Valerian is a comic book that was first published in 1967 and it’s something the director grew up reading, starting when he was 10 years old. He loved the series so much that it became a passion project for him to bring to the big screen. It took him a while to get it done. At one point a few years ago he had a script ready to go, but when Avatar came out he trashed it and started from scratch. It may have taken longer to make than he hoped, but it looks like he ended up making something pretty damn spectacular!

Dane DeHaan (Amazing Spider-Man 2, Chronicle), and Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad, Paper Towns) star in the film alongside Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, Rutger Hauer, John Goodman, Herbie Hancock, and Rihanna.

The original comic served as inspiration for films such as Star Wars, The Fifth Element and Avatar. This is a basic description of the concept:

The series focuses on the adventures of the dark-haired Valérian, a spatio-temporal agent, and his redheaded female colleague, Laureline, as they travel the universe through space and time. Valérian is a classical hero, kind-hearted, strong and brave who follows the orders of his superiors even if he feels, deep down, that it is the wrong thing to do. On the other hand, his partner Laureline combines her superior intelligence, determination and independence with sex-appeal.

Besson completed shooting the film about five or six weeks ago. He’s currently deep in the post production process, but he wanted to share a few scenes from the film with the audience. The VFX weren’t fully completed, but what he showed definitely wow’d the crowd and got us pumped up to see the movie! This movie looks bat-shit awesome! I’ll tell you about what we saw.

The first scene focused on Valerian (DeHaan), who is wearing a very cool-looking spacesuit that you can see in the new image above. He is running down the hallways of a spacecraft that he wasn’t familiar with and his partner Laureline (Delevingne) is guiding him over a communicator about where to go.

Another scene shows Laureline wearing a similar spacesuit and being escorted somewhere by a couple of guards. She tells them that they should cuff her because she was thinking about escaping. She acts like she’s going to make it easy for them but then proceeds to beat the living shit out of them. She steals a gun from one of them and as she’s running through the hallways she comes across three or four alien creatures, points her guns at them, and demands information.

Then there was a crazy and strange scene in which Valerian and Laureline are flying around in a spacecraft joking about Laureline’s driving skills. They end up landing the ship on a planet where there are a group of post-apocalyptic type scavengers waiting for them. Apparently they need the help of Valerian and Laureline, who meet them wearing tourist-type clothing and acting wacky. This whole thing turns into an action-packed sequence where they are being chased down by a rabid alien. This whole scene had a lot of Mad Max-style action as they were trying to get away from the alien.

Ethan Hawke shows up as a street salesmen trying to lure people into his club where they can see a show. The scene is set in a Blade Runner type of futuristic city and Hawke’s character gets Valerian into one of these shows; as he sits down, a dancer comes on stage ready to perform. When her head turns to the camera, we see that it’s Rihanna.

My favorite scene that was screened was the very last one and it was absolutely awesome! Valerian activates his suit and we see his helmet transform around his head. From that point he just starts running towards a wall and breaks through it. We continue to follow him running in a long continuous shot as he runs through all kinds of weird and colorful environments, and this eventually turns into some cool sci-fi parkour as he uses his gun to help him jump around on little pods. This sequence is so freakin' fun and I can’t wait to see how the full scene plays out.

When talking further about the movie, Besson said that the story takes place over the course of 24 hours. There’s also a scene during the beginning of the film that apparently takes place between two different dimensions! The director went on to say how crazy it was to shoot this scene and that it will be awesome for audiences to watch.

The movie looks like it’s going to be a blast and if you’re a fan of the kinds of films Besson makes, you are going to absolutely love this! Hopefully you get to see a trailer soon, but in the meantime, here’s the official synopsis:

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner — blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.
Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time — uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will hit theaters one year from today on July 21, 2017, and I'll definitely be checking it out!

As promised, here's the red hot trailer for Marvel and Netflix's Luke Cage, straight from the show's Comic-Con panel. A few members of the GeekTyrant team were in the room when this footage debuted, so I'm sure at least one of them will have some deeper thoughts for you about that experience either tonight or tomorrow, but for now, I'll just shut up and let you bask in the glory of star Mike Colter kicking ass and taking names as "the Wu-Tang-ification of the Marvel Universe" begins.

Luke Cage hits the streaming service on September 30, 2016.

Marvel Announces DAREDEVIL Season 3!

Marvel just announced that Netflix has renewed Daredevil for a third season! I know we all had a feeling that this was going to happen, but now we can all sleep soundly at night because it's official! Executive Vice President of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb and Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment Joe Quesada made the big announcement during the Marvel/Netflix panel at Comic-Con today.

Marvel started their whole Netflix journey with Daredevil and the insanely violent adventures of Matt Murdock and his posse will continue in season three. I have no idea what's in store, but there's no doubt that it's going to be awesome! Will it be better than the last season? Only time will tell, but I'm confident that Marvel is going to give us another incredible season.

There's no word on when Daredevil Season 3 will be released, but it probably won't happen until after The Defenders.

The show will feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist teaming up to face evil threatening New York, and if this voiceover is to be believed, first they'll have to save themselves. Check it out and let us know what you think below.

Earlier today, Marvel and Netflix had its panel presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, and they announced a third season of Daredevil and revealed brand new trailers for both Luke Cage and The Defenders. I thought that's all we'd see for the day, but later in the evening, they also unveiled our first look at Iron Fist in action. Take a look at the teaser trailer:

There's also a two-minute sizzle reel from the presentation that features Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and (briefly) The Punisher, and you can check that out below. I'm pretty sure there's some never-before-seen Luke Cage footage in there. Which Marvel Netflix show are you looking forward to the most?

Eerie Trailer for the Supernatural Horror Thriller BEFORE I WAKE with Thomas Jane

If you're a fan of horror films, then you might be interested in checking out this trailer for the horror thriller Before I Wake, which centers on a young kid who is scared to death of falling asleep and he should be! Why? Because his dreams become real as he sleeps. I guess that's not the best thing for an imaginative kid who dreams up spooky shit.

The film stars Thomas Jane and Kate Bosworth as the parents of the kid who is played by Jacob Tremblay. It looks like it could be a decent horror film. I love horror movies, so, of course, I'll be checking it out. Here's the official synopsis:

In this intense and heart-pounding supernatural thriller, Jessie (Kate Bosworth) and Mark (Thomas Jane) decide to take in a sweet and loving 8-year-old boy, Cody. Unbeknownst to them, Cody is terrified of falling asleep. At first, they assume his previous unstable homes caused his aversion to sleep, but soon discover why: Cody’s dreams manifest in reality as he sleeps. In one moment they experience the incredible wonder of Cody’s imagination, and in the next, the horrific nature of his night terrors. To save their new family, Jessie and Mark embark on a dangerous hunt to uncover the truth behind Cody’s nightmares.

The movie has had some issues as it was completed in 2013. It was then acquired by Relativity Media in 2014 and set to be released on May 2015. It was then delayed a couple more times due to Relativity's financial issues. Now it will be released on September 9th, 2016.

Comic-Con Convention Floor Video - Marvel, DC, and Sideshow Booth Awesomeness

Yesterday Mick, Billy, and I walked part of the convention room floor at San Diego Comic-Con. It’s so crowded, but there was so much cool stuff to see, and we have a few things for you to check out in a live video that we shot yesterday. In case you missed it, we walked around the Sideshow Collectibles booth where they had a ton of awesome action figures and statues that they are distributing. We also walked through the Marvel booth to see the costumes for Doctor Strange. That’s where I got in trouble for jumping on stage. We also went to the DC booth to check out the costumes they had on display for Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad. If you weren’t able to make it out to Comic-Con this year, this video will give you an amusing look at what part of the floor looks like this year. Check out the video and let us know what you think!

DreamWorks Announces VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER Season 2!

dreamworks-announces-voltron-legendary-defender-season-2

At Comic-Con, DreamWorks Animation announced that they will be renewing their Voltron: Legendary Defender Netflix series for a second season! This is awesome news, and I was hoping we would get a second season!

Executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos and co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery did an incredible job rebooting the classic '80s cartoon series. The will both be back to lead the charge on season two with writer Tim Hedrick.

The best part is we don't have to wait very long! The second season will premiere later this year! According to the press release the second season will follow Team Voltron "in the wake of Haggar's disruption of their wormhole as they are scattered across the universe."

If you haven't watched it yet, you really need to check it out because it's a freakin' blast! I loved it, my kids loved it, and it seems like many of the other fans who grew up on the original Voltron series loved it. I'm excited that the story will continue!

THE ROCKETEER Gets an Eye-Popping Mondo Poster

0

The Rocketeer is one of my personal favorite movies of all time, and I always love seeing fan art for the movie all these years after it was released. That excitement is jacked up even more when the art is as high quality as these great Kevin Tong prints from Mondo, which show Cliff Secord in full costume flying in the foreground with the flaming zeppelin falling away in the background. My only gripe — and it's a super tiny one — is that the jet pack he's wearing here looks more like the vacuum cleaner from the movie instead of the actual double-barreled rocket pack. (For a look at the real prop from the movie, check out my photos from the film's 20th anniversary event.)

Check out Mondo's website for more information, and Tong says the variant is available at Comic-Con if you happen to be in San Diego and want to get your hands on this awesome piece of work. What do you think about these? I actually dig the brown and tan color scheme of the variant more than the original.

Hilarious Comic-Con Red-Band Trailer for SAUSAGE PARTY

A new red-band trailer for Seth Rogen's R-rated animated film Sausage Party was unveiled at Comic-Con, and it's pretty damn hilarious. The trailer is NSFW as it is full of vulgarity. The movie looks absolutely ridiculous, but it also looks like it's gonna be an incredibly fun flick!

The film follows the story of one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store, and it's a living hell that they have to try and survive.

The movie also stars Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek

Ballistic Marvel Comic-Con Sizzle Reel for LUKE CAGE, DAREDEVIL, and JESSICA JONES

"You want to go to war? I'll take you to war."

The first thing that fans were treated to during the Marvel and Netflix panel yesterday was an adrenaline-fueled sizzle reel featuring footage from Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones. It definitely got fans pumped up for what was to follow. Later on during the panel we got to see some Luke Cage footage and teaser trailer, a rockin' teaser for The Defenders, and a first teaser for Iron Fist. Oh yeah! They also announced Daredevil Season 3.

The sizzle reel also offers some bone-crunching new footage from Luke Cage that you don't want to miss! The Marvel/Netflix panel was easily the best and most exciting panel I've been to at Comic-Con so far. They've got some great things coming, and I think fans are going to be very happy with what they deliver.
