At this point, your feelings about Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are probably as cemented as your feelings about this year's presidential election: you've all made up your minds, and it's going to take something truly monumental to get you to change your opinion. But here, check out ScreenJunkies' new Honest Trailer for the film anyway and see if there's anything in there you hadn't considered before.

Also, don't forget to read Nick's editorial about how the backlash against this film can be a good thing for the DCEU.

VAN HELSING Screenwriter Reveals Mad Max is an Inspiration For Universal's Newest Take on The Character

Universal's own MCU — the Monster Cinematic Universe — is in full swing with Tom Cruise's The Mummy, and the studio is going after top-tier talent to fill out the rest of the movies, approaching people like Russell Crowe, Johnny Depp, and Javier Bardem over the past few months. They're developing new takes on The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, and more, but one of the films we haven't heard much about is their new imagining of Van Helsing.

Hitfix caught up with Eric Heisserer, who is co-writing the new Van Helsing with Prometheus and Doctor Strange writer Jon Spaihts, and the scribe revealed a couple of interesting tidbits about their approach to the character:

“I can only say that early on, our inspiration for his behavior and his mannerisms was all in Mad Max."

The famed vampire hunter has historically been portrayed as much more of a learned man than one who keeps his mouth shut most of the time like Max, so that should be an interesting departure if that outlook on the character makes it through all the way to production.

When Hitfix suggested it might be cool to see a woman play the role, Heisserer directed them to the Syfy series Vanessa Helsing, so it seems certain that this Van Helsing will indeed be played by a man.

And finally, the writer addressed the tone of his movie and how it will fit into the larger cinematic universe:

“It’s early days right now. I can say that the decision that a lot of us made was to go and just write the best movie we could in our own corner and make sure it's good on its own...and didn't necessarily need to link arm-in arm-with anybody else. And to be tonally different from the other films. One may be a little bit more comedic, action-adventure-y, one can be very much a traditional horror piece. That kind of thing. And then we'll see what happens as the projects evolve and we all get a chance to convene and talk, and make sure the movies feel like they're all in the same world.”

Are you hyped for Universal's new incarnation of their classic movie monsters? What do you think about this approach to the Van Helsing character?

Throwback: THE SIMPSONS Voice Actors Perform For James Lipton

As long a fan as I've been of the show, I can't believe I've never bothered to look up the actual voice actors for The Simpsons performing! Reddit did it for me, and I'm unbelievably grateful that they did. This segment with James Lipton and the cast doing their voices is pretty amazing! I especially like how natural the exchange is between all of the actors. I'm sure they rehearsed some stuff beforehand, but it's still pretty cool and flows well. Check it out below.

Ash Heads Home in Bloody New ASH VS. EVIL DEAD Season 2 Trailer

I'm originally from the Jacksonville area, so it's fun for me to see the Florida city represented (even in a goofy way) in this brand new season 2 trailer for Starz's Ash vs. Evil Dead. The last trailer was super short but extraordinarily bloody, and this one is way longer, shows off tons of new footage, and is still pretty damn NSFW when it comes to violence and gore: there are beheadings, dismemberments, and all sorts of insane things going on here as we're teased with a bit more information about Ash's backstory.

Kid Cudi, of all people, debuted the trailer on Twitter:

We'll probably get some more info at Comic-Con this week, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, check out this new synopsis for the show's second season (via ScreenCrush):

The second season roars back into action with Ash leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his hometown of Elk Grove. There, he confronts Ruby. The former enemies have to form an uneasy alliance as Elk Grove soon becomes the nucleus of evil.

Ash vs. Evil Dead returns to Starz in October.

Review: Netflix's STRANGER THINGS is a Fun, Heartwarming Ride...With a Dark Side

I'm just on the other end of shotgunning eight hours of Netflix's new series Stranger Things, and I'm still reeling from the emotional rollercoaster ride. Right off the bat: if you're thinking this is a show oriented toward kids (which is sort of what I thought), you're so wrong. While creating a feeling of youthful nostalgia and adventure, Stranger Things deals with some heavier themes during its inaugural eight episode season as it constantly mines your emotions, but we'll get there soon enough. If you haven't had the opportunity to waste eight hours straight in front of a TV, and maybe you're wondering if it's worth it...

Yeah, it's worth it.

Set in 1980s Indiana, Stranger Things begins with the escape of an unseen creature from a secure government lab, which serves as the starting gun to a series of mysterious and eerie events that overtake a small town, mainly involving the disappearance of young Will Byers (Noah Schnapp). We follow Will's D&D-obsessed best friends Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) as they attempt to solve the growing mystery after taking on a strange and powerful new friend named Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). There's a lot more to unpack in Stranger Things, but before I get into spoiler territory I'll give a small non-spoiler review, just in case you're on the fence.

Stranger Things grabs you from its first moments and doesn't let go. Sure, it might loosen its grip momentarily here and there (mainly due to one particular character), but it's very quick to reel you back in with its seamless blend of humor, joy, sorrow, romance, and action, constantly pulling your emotions back and forth until you come out on the other side. Although I'd say the kids are the main characters, most of the main players have good reason to get in on the action while leaving the rest of the 'normal' folk questioning, or ignoring, the surrounding weirdness. The cast collectively knocks it out of the park — especially the kids. The dialogue between them is warm and funny, but more importantly, it's believable. They all have such a tight and delightful chemistry it almost leaves you wondering if they are indeed best friends in real life.

While the kids shine in heartwarming and youthful exuberance, it's wonderful how creators Matt and Ross Duffer switch between the perspectives of the kids, teens, and adults, showing us how each is reacting and processing the extraordinary circumstances in their own way. Stranger Things moves along at an almost perfect pace, never lingering on one plotline for too long and organically stepping characters through the story with fluidity. The Duffer Brothers have successfully created a well-shot, well-written world full of colorful and lovable characters while maintaining a dark and foreboding undercurrent that deals with some uncomfortable themes.

All right. If you haven't watched Stranger Things, avert your eyes now! If you have, or simply don't care, follow me! SOME SPOILERS FOR STRANGER THINGS AHEAD! YE BE WARNED!

Cast/Characters
This cast is full of outstanding actors, who seem to have benefited by the direction of either The Duffer Bros' themselves or Shawn Levy. I can't name one standout from the series, as each member of the ensemble brings something great to the table. I can name a weak link, however. Let's break 'em down, shall we?

The Kids
I was blown away by the performances from the youngest members of Stranger Things' cast. Not only did they convey a warm and youthful innocence, they beg you to enter your memories and place yourself in the shoes of your inner 12-year-old. You're along for the ride with them, living these events because they perfectly convey the wonder, fear, sadness, and joy of each moment. It's fun to see through their filter, doing things like equating Elle's powers to Professor X or The Monster as a creature from Dungeons & Dragons. Each child has their own moments to shine too, whether it's Dustin's slingshot, Lucas' unbreakable loyalty and constant humor, or Mike's bravery. Arguably, the best moments of Stranger Things come from the interactions between them; more often than not, they're charged with welcome humor. Solidifying their party is a mysterious little girl named Eleven, or Elle for short. Hiding out in Mike's basement, Elle is a powerful telekinetic child who has escaped shadowy government agents who'd been using her to gain intelligence from Russia during The Cold War. Brown's performance as Elle is deep and emotional. She's introverted, rarely speaking more than three words at a time, but conveying torment and loneliness through her eyes and facial expressions. There's plenty of cool moments involving Eleven and her powers too, especially when she's breaking bones with the flick of her head.

The Teens
Perhaps the coolest thing about Stranger Things was the aforementioned ability to create a story that can be seen from the perspective of each age group, which is successful in attacking our nostalgia and inspiring a deep investment in the characters. The Duffer Bros make it just as easy to sidle right into teenage bliss, angst, and ignorance. We're lead here by Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers (Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton, respectively), who give us the familiar trope of opposing teenage lives: the outcast and the normal girl. Nancy is just a normal suburban girl. She's looking for attention from the coolest guy in school and is subsequently invited to a party when his parents are out of town. She sneaks out behind Mom's back, shotgunning beers — Nancy, how could you! Jonathan is a loner, always looking at people through his camera and detached from the rest of society. He'd been given the role of 'Man of the House' when his father left and is constantly affected by it. When Will disappears, he finds himself investigating through nearby woods where he comes across Nancy and the party, where he proceeds to take some creepy voyeuristic photos that reveal the monster, which really brings our teens together.

Nancy and Jonathan are older, and with that age comes the absence of innocence portrayed by our kids, and the inception of confusion. Above everything, it's believable. They're teenagers that are trying to overcome the redundancy or dysfunction of their parents, constantly trying to carve out their own way in life without the pressure of outside influence. It's through these unexplainable and extraordinary events where they find themselves as individuals, their strengths/weaknesses, and their will to fight through a crazy situation full of adversity. I may have only detailed two of the main characters, but honestly, the rest of the secondary teens are just as believable and lend important weight to the overall story. Chief among them: Nancy's sometimes douchey, sometimes charming boyfriend: that damn Steve Harrington. Seriously, though, he'll be selling cars sometime in the future, right?

The Adults
It might sound like I'm all in for this show, but there were honestly a few elements that I wasn't very fond of (not many, admittedly). The adult characters in this show are mainly represented by Chief Jim Hopper and Joyce Byers (David Harbor and Winona Ryder), but expand into a few other important pieces of the puzzle — mainly a silver-haired, scarily calm government doctor named Martin Brenner, played by Matthew Modine with an underlying love for power and information. He truly seems to love Elle, but because of what she can do for him, not who she is. Much like the kids and teens, we are able to see the situation from Hopper's changing perspective, but most interestingly, he seems to understand each perspective. Jim Hopper was, outside of the main group of kids, the most memorable character of the season. If you needed a laugh? Hopper to the rescue. Someone needed a straight-up rocking to the face? Hopper will be there. Questioning reality? It takes him a second, but Hopper will wear a tin-foil hat with you. Not only was Harbor's performance believable, he gave us reason to travel up and down the emotional spectrum with him. Arguably his character arc was the most well-written and fleshed out, starting him at the bottom of the barrel with a lackadaisical attitude for his boring town and progressing him naturally, letting his character grow with the story and ending up with some redemption that's pretty sure to make you at least a little bit misty-eyed. Here's a perfect time to break my streak of positivity with some bad news. While Ryder really goes for it with her performance of the grief stricken and anxious Joyce Byers...it just doesn't work. She's constantly cranked up to 10, overacting most of the screen time she receives in the first six episodes and almost coming off like she wanted more spotlight than the rest. In fact, she is one of the only elements of Stranger Things that periodically removed me from the experience, showing a lack of nuance and almost trying way too hard to deliver. She does redeem herself somewhat in the final two episodes, and when she actually tones it down, her performance fits quite nicely, complimenting the stellar efforts of those around her.

Writing/Direction/Story
Stranger Things is an obvious homage to lovable '80s films with most of its influence seemingly coming from Spielberg in his prime. It invokes similar feelings to E.T., The Goonies, and Close Encounters of The Third Kind while carving out something completely original and intriguing of its own. Due to its breezy eight episode count, the season never feels too short or too long, but just right. You're never bored with a certain plot or sub-plot because it cracks along and moves forward at a snappy pace while simultaneously keeping you on your toes. Characters aren't just running into each other for the writers' convenience, either. It feels like everyone's path has been carefully thought out and pieced together in order to converge them in a concise and sensible way. Although there are some tropes that weren't avoided (i.e. when Elle saves Mike from his fateful plunge for friendship at the last second), they rarely feel shoehorned, nor do they come from thin air. There are some twists and turns that yank on your heartstrings, especially the moment where Will's body (not so much) is dragged from the lake. The lead-up to said moment is executed perfectly, giving just enough misdirection to throw you off exactly what's going on, and pays off with the visceral autopsy scene involving Hopper and Will's (not so much) body. It's a genuine moment of cringe-worthy horror that succeeds in putting you in the character's shoes, wondering with Hopper what his actions will lead to.

The Duffer Bros' and Levy split directorial duties for the first season, and it's easy to tell that it aids in making the season cohesive. It's filmed with warmth and love and it's obvious that the team behind Stranger Things loves their characters. This isn't a show that was thrown together haphazardly, rather a strategically built piece of art with great story, visuals, and good writing. We explore classic themes of good and evil in a fun and adventurous way, but the creative team is never afraid to plunge into darkness, tackling heavy themes like premature death, mourning, and grief. The darkened alternate dimension, referred to as The Upside Down, could be viewed as a metaphor for hell and the devil lurking below. The Upside Down is an intriguing place: a cold and desolate mirror dimension that seemingly exists right below our physical reality, but it's left mostly shrouded in mystery. The climax involving the monster fight and Hopper/Joyce's foray into The Upside Down was a little weaker than the rest; everything just felt a little too easy and rushed in the show's final half hour, but it doesn't stop inspiring an emotional response, and definitely doesn't tarnish the experience.

The Duffer Bros' choose to resolve the Will Byers and Monster storylines this season, but leave things open for the future. Big things! What is The Upside Down, exactly? Are there more children like Eleven from the government program? Why was the monster keeping Will alive? What the hell was up with Will at the end? Is that actually Will at the end, or did he puke up another monster? Where the hell did Hopper go in that car? Was he brainwashed after? C'mon! It's fun to have these lingering questions that will most certainly hook most of us in for a second season and beyond. It's difficult to be negative about Stranger Things. It's too lovable and engaging — it has a handful of memorable characters, moments, dialogue, twists, and turns. It's fairly easy to be optimistic about the future of The Duffer Bros' creation. They've left us with the feeling that something special is just beginning, and if the first season is indicative of what's in store, stranger things are indeed coming.

J.J. Abrams Says They Won't Recast Anton Yelchin’s Chekov in STAR TREK

A lot of fans have been wondering if Paramount Pictures would recast Anton Yelchin’s Pavel Chekov in the future Star Trek films that they plan on developing. I was really hoping that they wouldn't. Yelchin owned that role in these new films, and it would have been a shame to see him replaced.

Fans can breathe a sigh of relief now because according to producer J.J. Abrams, they will not be recasting the role. During an interview with the Toronto Sun, Abrams said:

“I would say there’s no replacing him. There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better.”

I think Yelchin's fans will wholeheartedly agree. There's no information on how they will handle Chekov's departure from the franchise or how they will replace the character. When asked if they would kill off the character Abrams said:

“I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it."

Fair enough. I'm sure they will figure out a way to do it and to honor Yelchin and the character in the best possible way. Paramount Pictures is already in the process of developing the fourth Star Trek film in the rebooted franchise, and it will see James Kirk come face to face with his dad George.

Windblade Prelude Episode for TRANSFORMERS: COMBINER WARS

The final prelude episode for Transformers: Combiner Wars has been released, and this one focuses on the female robot character Windblade. In my opinion, it’s the best prelude episode so far. Windblade is described as follows:

Windblade, once an official 'City Speaker' to the gigantic 'Titans' is tired of the bureaucratic non-action of the Council, who seem to sit idly while her people and her cities on Caminus perish. She decides that the only way to end the Combiner Wars is to take matters into her own vengeful hands.

The video offers you a bit more information about the character. I’ve really enjoyed the prelude episodes, and I’m definitely excited to watch the actual series, which is going to be a more adult oriented Transformers series targeted to fans who grew up with the original cartoon series.

To watch the first three prelude episodes, click on the following links: Optimus PrimeVictorion and Starscream.

There will be eight episodes of Combiner Wars, and it will premiere on August 2nd! We’ll make sure to get to episodes up on the site for you to watch when they go live.

The Upcoming Darth Vader VR STAR WARS Experience Will Apparently Make You Cry

$

Over the weekend at Star Wars Celebration we learned that screenwriter David Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy) is working on developing a Darth Vader project with Industrial Light & Magic’s ILMxLAB. It was initially described as being a story-based experience that will revolve around the legendary Sith Lord. Goyer explained:

“When we looked at all the characters, places, and worlds in the Star Wars universe available to us, we asked ourselves, ‘What haven’t we seen before? Who are we curious about?’ Darth Vader is the perfect ambassador to usher us into theStar Wars VR universe.”

Thanks to /Film, we now have more details on this project. According to Lucasfilm writer Pablo Hidalgo, this Darth Vader VR is going to be an emotional experience. So much so that it will apparently make you cry. Hidalgo says:

"What we’re working on right now, is a way to get in your hands an original Star Wars story that can only be told through Virtual Reality. And it will be exclusive and cinematic in that realm."

Goyer then explains that this Darth Vader project is not a game and shares some thoughts about what the experience will be like for us:

"I’ve worked in games, in first person shooters, and [with this] no, you’re not a player. This is not a game. This thing we’re working on, you’re not a player. You are the visitor in this story, happening in and around you, which to a certain extent, you may have some affect on.

"We’re doing these builds, these proof of concepts. And the difference between cinema, television and VR especially at the fidelity that this team is doing it, is you really feel like you’re there. The sense of presence, and its not just a buzz-word, when you guys get to experience it you will feel like you’re there."

That sounds like it could be really freakin' cool. There's a future with VR entertainment, we just don't really know how far it will actually go. Goyer goes on to talk about how the experience will play with your emotions of sadness and fear:

"It’s surprisingly very emotional. It can make you sad. It can make you lean in and feel for a character in a way you haven’t before. In a way you really can’t do in any other medium, in books, in film… And it can scare you, trust me, in a way you’ve never been scared before. It’s experiential storytelling and there’s the plot but its surprising how much you feel and how emotional it is. Even as we’re experimenting with it, there is stuff that makes you tear up and cry, and its really phenomenal."

I can't wait to give this thing a try! It sounds like it's going to be an incredible experience. I'm really curious to see what story they plan on telling about Darth Vader that will be so emotional. I hope this VR technology is successful because it could be a whole new crazy way of experiencing movies.

Adam Savage’s TED Talk “My Love Letter to Cosplay”

Most of you know Adam Savage as one of the hosts of the awesome series Mythbusters. The guy is an insanely talented individual with a fun and imaginative personality. He’s got the skills to build and create some pretty awesome and elaborate props and costumes, some of which you can see here. He even dresses up in his costumes to walk around various geek conventions.

Savage recently did a TED Talk in which he talked about his childhood and how he became the kind of man that he is. It’s the story of his evolution, and it's also his love letter to cosplay. One of the things he said is:

“Cosplay as storytelling is really personal to me. It’s also probably the hobby I’m most embarrassed about. Even more than prop collecting, it’s a weird thing to be driven to do. And yet it’s important.
"We're connecting with something important inside of us. The costumes are how we reveal ourselves to each other."

It’s a great talk and worth watching when you get a chance. The video came with the following description:

Adam Savage makes things and builds experiments, and he uses costumes to add humor, color and clarity to the stories he tells. Tracing his lifelong love of costumes — from a childhood space helmet made of an ice cream tub to a No-Face costume he wore to Comic-Con — Savage explores the world of cosplay and the meaning it creates for its community.

If you're a fan of Adam Savage, this TED Talk will make you love him even more.

We’ve got a brand new photo from the new Power Rangers movie for you to check out today that features the heroes of the stories wearing their costumes but unmasked. My first thought when I saw the photo was, "Whoa! They look more like the Silverhawks than they do Power Rangers!” I’m not saying that in a bad way, it’s just an observation, and I would love to see the Silverhawks movie get made. Anyway, the costumes look interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing what the characters look like in action. I suspect we’ll get our first look at some footage at Comic-Con later this week.

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

The Rangers you see here include Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, and Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger. Elizabeth Banks also stars in the movie as the main villain Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston is playing Zordon.

The Power Rangers will jump into action when the movie is released on March 24th, 2017.

Adorable International Trailer for Disney’s MOANA Features a Playful Ocean

Disney has released a new international trailer for their upcoming animated film Moana. It features some charming new footage that was previously only screened for Disney fans at the D23 Expo last year. The footage focuses on Moana as an adorable young toddler who finds herself on the ocean shore. As she approaches the water, it starts to play with her.

Director Ron Clements has previously explained that the Pacific Ocean is a very important character in the movie. When doing research for the film, he found that the people of the South Pacific interacted with the ocean like a person and treated it like a friend. I don’t see how anyone can watch this trailer and not be left with a smile on their face.

Moana was also directed by John Musker (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog), and it follows Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) who is guided by the demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) on an adventure in the South Pacific. Here’s the full synopsis:

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why.
From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.

Moana sails into U.S. theaters on November 23rd, 2016.

Ash and Xena Team Up in ARMY OF DARKNESS and XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS Crossover Comic!

We’re going to get to see Ash Williams team up with Xena in Dynamite Entertainment’s Xena, Warrior Princess and Amy of Darkness crossover comic that they just announced. This is a four-part miniseries called Army of Darkness / Xena, Warrior Princess: Forever… and a Day, and it is being written by Scott Lobdell (Red Hood and the Outlaws) and illustrated by Elliot Fernandez (Harley Quinn and Power Girl).

Xena will call upon Ash to help her battle an army of the undead. It looks like they are going to get into a little fight first, but in the end they will work together to save the day. Here’s the official description of the series:

You're Xena the Warrior Princess and your thousand strong army has fallen to an implacable and ancient evil. What do you do? You suck it up and summon the only ally who stands any hope at all of helping you prevent the end of the world. Unfortunately, that lone man is the wise ass, ass kicking, time traveling, woman kissing, boom sticker known as Ash!

Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher, had this to say about the comic:

"Ashley Williams will always be one of my favorite characters, because there's so many great AOD tales to tell, and he was the first Dynamite title we ever published. You never forget your first. As one of the most unlikely heroes in pop culture, it makes it impossible not to love him... unless, of course, you're a battle-hardened warrior like Xena, who has a little less tolerance for such shenanigans. It's an odd couple pairing that fans of both franchises will love!"

It’s kind of funny because Bruce Campbell and Lucy Lawless currently star together in Starz's Ash Vs. Evil Dead, but this comic actually brings together the characters that we’ve enjoyed seeing them play in the past, and it looks like it's going to be a fun story!

The comic is set to be released in October of this year. Below you'll find some art from the comic including some variant covers.

Awesomely Fun Trailer for Ethan Hawke’s Western IN THE VALLEY OF VIOLENCE

in-the-valley-of-violence-trailer

"Those men left me with nothing, I'm going to leave them with less."

The first trailer has been released for director Ti West’s new film In The Valley of Violence. The movie looks awesomely entertaining, and it has a great cast that includes Ethan Hawke, Karen Gillan, and John Travolta

In the Valley of Violence tells a revenge story that follows a drifter and his dog as they are trying to make their way through the desert and into Mexico. Along the way the stumble upon a small town named Denton where they find some trouble. The movie looks like a good old-fashioned western packed with violence and some witty and amusing dialogue.

West is best known for the hour films that he’s made such as The Innkeepers and The House of the Devil. His latest project is outside of the horror genre, and it looks like he had fun with it and did a great job telling the story. I’m looking forward to checking it out! Here’s the synopsis:

A mysterious drifter named Paul (Ethan Hawke) and his dog Abbie (Jumpy) make their way towards Mexico through the barren desert of the old west. In an attempt to shorten their journey they cut through the center of a large valley – landing themselves in the forgotten town of Denton – a place now dubbed by locals as a “valley of violence.” The once popular mining town is nearly abandoned, and controlled by a brash group of misfits and nitwits – chief among them, the seemingly untouchable, Gilly (James Ransone) who is the troublemaking son of the town’s unforgiving Marshal (John Travolta).
As tensions rise between Paul and Gilly, Denton’s remaining residents bear witness to an inevitable act of violence that starts a disastrous chain reaction, infecting the petty lives of all involved and quickly drags the whole town into the bloody crosshairs of revenge. Mary-Anne (Taissa Farmiga) and Ellen (Karen Gillan), two bickering sisters who run the town’s only hotel, try to find the good in both men, while desperately searching for their own salvation. A couple of weeks ago it was reported that Marvel would be unveiling a 13-foot bronze statue of Captain America at San Diego Comic-Con before heading to Steve Roger's hometown of Brooklyn. Well, today was the day of the reveal, and we've got an official photo of it for you along with the details behind the statue.

The statue was designed by Comicave Studios and immortalizes the All-American hero. It's an awesomely beautiful design. I have yet to see it in person yet, but it's on my bucket list of things to do before Comic-Con is over.

There's also a special tie-in comic that will incorporate the statue into the continuity of the Marvel universe. The comic will be available at SDCC, and there are also special Captain America events that will take place in the near future.

You can read all about the statue and the event information in the press release below:

Since his creation in 1941 by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, Captain America has gone through numerous evolutions, butalways remains as one of the world’s most influential and inspiring Super Heroes. Kicking off a new phase of the year-long celebration of 75 years of Captain America, Marvel Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media have unveiled a slate of heroic activations taking place at San Diego Comic-Con and beyond to honor the First Avenger, along with a wide range of celebratory merchandise.
Headlining the Captain America 75th anniversary celebration, Marvel has collaborated with high-end collectibles maker Comicave Studios to create a one-of-a-kind Captain America statue that will be displayed at the Marvel booth #2329 at Comic-Con International on July 20. Comicave Studios worked closely with Marvel artists in New York and a Brooklyn-based sculptor to design the bronze tribute, standing at over 13 feet and weighing 1 ton. The statue will continue to stand tall on the show floor throughout San Diego Comic-Con for photo ops with fans, and 1/12-scale bronze replicas of the statue will be available for purchase. Plus, a custom comic book was created by Marvel Publishing writers and artists to integrate the statue into new storytelling.  This one-of-a-kind comic will be available in limited quantities at San Diego Comic-Con and future Captain America events.
Following SDCC, the commemorative statue will journey via truck across the country to Brooklyn, NY – the hometown of Steve Rogers – for a limited engagement in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Fans can follow the truck along its cross-country route through photos on social media sites like Marvel and StyledByMarvel Instagram. The statue will be on display in the Children’s Corner of Prospect Park for a two-week temporary installation, kicking off with a dedication ceremony and community event on August 10th from 1-3pm. In the evening, a special viewing of the recent blockbuster film, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, will take place in Prospect Park as part of the culmination of the Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams’ “A Summer Movie Under the Stars” program, which will be airing four Captain America-focused movies every Wednesday from July 20th to August 10th.
“To the rest of America and the world, he’s Captain America; to us, he’ll always be Steve Rogers, ‘just a kid from Brooklyn,’” said Borough President Adams. “Brooklyn is proud to be the base of celebrations for Cap’s 75th anniversary, which will be capped by a larger-than-life statue traveling around our borough — befitting of this larger-than-life character. Prospect Park is the place to be this summer to enjoy the Captain America!”
After the half-month stop in Prospect Park, the Captain America statue will move to the plaza outside Barclays Center on Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues for September, during which several Marvel fan activations take place. From late October through the remainder of the year, the statue will adorn the soon-to-be-opened Bed Bath & Beyond® in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Fans of all ages will enjoy a specially re-designed statue base, for heightened interactivity and photo opportunities with Captain America, as well as see and shop for a variety of unique Marvel items, including limited quantities of scaled replicas of the bronze statue itself.
“Since 1941 Captain America has remained one of the most influential Super Heroes in comic book history,” said Paul Gitter, senior vice president, licensing, Marvel at Disney Consumer Products. “He has evolved as a character throughout the years, but remains constant as a moral compass within the Marvel Universe and leader of the Avengers. The tribute statue and other activations are the perfect way to honor 75 years of this iconic Super Hero and to celebrate the borough of Brooklyn in New York City.”
Also joining the 75th celebration at San Diego Comic-Con are Marvel’s leading merchandise partners including Hasbro, Funko, and Jakks Pacific who will be commemorating “Cap” through new collectibles. As previously announced, Comicave Studios will also be offering different scales of replicas of the bronze statue itself at San Diego Comic-Con.  Additional licensees including Mad Engine, Mighty Fine, Freeze, C-Life, Her Universe, What’s Your Passion, Nick Graham, Café Press, Jay Franco, Kiddesigns, HJC Helmets and more will all feature new Captain America merchandise at major retailers this Fall.  These collections will highlight Captain America’s iconic shield and cover categories including apparel and accessories for kids, women and men, home goods, electronics, and toys. There will even be new Brooklyn-themed artwork available for a range of apparel and accessories.
