MoviePass Considering Tier System For Membership

$

MoviePass is switching things up in an attempt to make more money. Previously, members would pay around $40 dollars a month for the ability to watch unlimited movies in theaters. Now, Variety says they are looking to offer a "tier system" in an attempt to draw in more users.

The new system can be a good or bad thing depending on who you are. For example, if you're someone who casually attends movies, $20 dollars a month for 6 selected films a month sounds like a steal! If you're someone who is a film critic and sees 2 to 3 films a week, you're getting hosed under the new system. The system is still being tested right now, so make sure to check your mail if you're a current subscriber.

To be fair, however, most people in film media get free invites to advance screenings provided they have a city large enough to get them, so the service isn't really for people like us. If I weren't in the position I'm in, there is no way in hell I would spend $40 bucks a month to see all the movies I can in a month. My wife probably wouldn't let me either, so there's that.

But $20? I'll take away my freedom to choose what screenings and movies I go to for six movies a month. That's a bargain no matter which way you cut it. Do you agree? Or do you think the old model is still the way to go? Does anyone actually subscribe to MoviePass?

Daniel Radcliffe Was Legitimately Afraid of Ralph Fiennes While Filming HARRY POTTER

It would appear Harry Potter was a bit braver in facing Voldemort than Daniel Radcliffe. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Radcliffe reveals he was actually scared to interact with Ralph Fiennes (who played Voldemort) when they worked together on the set of the Harry Potter films The actor recounted the experience in the statement below:.

I remember when I was 15 doing scenes with Ralph for the first time. He was even scarier than Alan was at first...Alan was super intimidating to start off with as well, but then you get into it, but Ralph genuinely scared me for a few years.

I remember when they first revealed Voldemort in his resurrected form...it creeped me out. I would also believe that Alan Rickman would be scary to work with in character, but I've seen some behind the scenes footage where he was really good with the kids and would constantly tease and pal around with them. Maybe Ralph wasn't so cool when the camera stopped rolling?

Anyone up for a road trip? The Smithsonian has the restored original model of Star Trek's USS Enterprise. Truthfully, it's not my favorite Trek ship, but it is super trippy to see it outside of the show! See it in full in the video below.

Anna Kendrick Wants To Be Squirrel Girl

Wow, talk about a Furry fantasy. Anna Kendrick says after getting a comic from her brother, she wants to play Squirrel Girl. The actress spoke to Net A Porter (via Comic Book) about the character and said she's admittedly glib about the lore, but she's willing to take on the role!

"I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”

Yeah, that sounds like Anna Kendrick all right. I'd be good with the casting, although I'm not sure Marvel would be willing to shell out the cash for a cameo role. They would have to have a pretty awesome script to put butts in seats for Squirrel Girl. Part of me wonders if she may be a bit too out there for mainstream audiences, but then again Guardians of the Galaxy made it happen, so anything's possible!

SUICIDE SQUAD Music Video Features Lil Wayne, X Ambassadors, and More

Somehow the music video for Suicide Squad has a more diverse cast than the film. "Sucker For Pain" features Lil Wayne, Imagine Dragons, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, and X Ambassadors. The whole ensemble are wrapped into a music video that ties into the film and features some previously unseen footage! I'm a big fan of this song, and I could definitely see it getting some radio play. The music video is pretty awesome as well.

Ash and the gang are back and ready to inflict some serious damage on those Deadite bastards in this brand new image from Ash vs. Evil Dead season 2. The one and only Bruce Campbell is joined by Ruby (Lucy Lawless), Pablo (Ray Santiago), and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo), and they're armed and ready for battle.

We don't know a ton about season 2 yet, but Ash's Florida partying will be cut short when he has to return home to continue the fight against evil. We'll almost certainly learn more at Comic-Con in a few weeks. I'm also hoping to bring an Ash vs. Evil Dead-centric podcast over to PodTyrant as soon as season 2 gets up and running, so make sure to stay tuned for that. Are you excited for the show's second season?

Watch: Films on The Fourth of July Supercut

As we head into the Fourth of July weekend, it's only fitting to share this supercut from editor Nelson Carvajal for Fandor Magazine that celebrates the spirit of the holiday. There are, of course, the requisite moments from Independence Day, but mixed in are shots from movies that include fireworks sequences, many of which I'd totally forgotten about. (Did you remember that Bryan Singer's first X-Men film had fireworks going off in the background during the Statue of Liberty fight? I didn't.) So before you log off for the weekend, take a couple minutes and check this out.

GAME OF THRONES: What is Littlefinger's Ultimate Plan?

$

(Spoilers ahead for Game of Thrones season 6.)

In the world of HBO's Game of Thrones, arguably the best player in "the great game" (as Tyrion refers to it in his conversation with Dany in the season 6 finale) is Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish, the man who rose from nothing to become the Lord Protector of the Vale. Littlefinger has always been one of my favorite characters because he's constantly scheming, and he's almost always at least one step ahead of everyone else. He thrives on chaos, and excels at misdirection and pitting people against each other in service of his own agenda. But what is his ultimate plan? In last week's finale, he told Sansa that he wanted to sit on the Iron Throne with her at his side, and I thought that was it: his statement of purpose. But in an interview with Vulture, actor Aidan Gillen says — in typical Littlefinger fashion — there may be more to it than meets the eye.

Up until this point, he's been purposely vague about what he wants. But in the finale, he finally spells it out to Sansa, or so it seems.
Sitting on the Iron Throne might be a bit on the nose. Maybe we should treat that with a degree of ...
A little bit of skepticism?
A little. I think I said it before — to you, actually — that sure, it's nice to be near the throne, to be able to counsel the person who sits upon the throne, but it's less interesting and more dangerous to be the one on the throne. He has said he wants that, he has said those words, but is that really what he means? I don't know.
Maybe it's just what he's telling Sansa to stir up her ambitions?
Yeah. It's unlikely, but not impossible. It's a real push. It's about pushing buttons in other people. You say what you want in order to have the maximum effect, and it's the more interesting proposition, of course — her being on the throne. It could help me retain her trust. He's not stupid, you know? He knows her trust is a very tenuous thing, post–Ramsay Bolton. But Sansa and Jon's relationship has just taken a more interesting turn, of course!

Gillen also spoke about that final mysterious look he shared with Sophie Turner's Sansa when Jon Snow was being crowned King in the North:

Speaking for Littlefinger, it was one of those moments where you go, "Fuck! Maybe this is a bigger thing than I thought it would be. How are we going to deal with this?" Given that he enjoys chaos and uncertainty and the thrill of all of that, it was a big moment for him.

Gillan is just the embodiment of this character on the TV show, and especially since his fate hasn't been revealed yet in the books, it's unlikely he knows what happens to Littlefinger beyond what we've seen so far. What do you think is Littlefinger's ultimate plan? Is it simply to rule, or does he have more complicated aspirations?

Disgusting-Looking GHOSTBUSTERS-Themed Hamburgers and Other Food

disgusting-looking-ghostbusters-themed-hamburgers-and-other-food1

I don’t really understand the trend of movie-inspired food. We’ve seen some in the past and it always looks freakin’ gross. To celebrate the upcoming new Ghostbusters film, the Japanese restaurant chain J.S. Burgers Cafe has put a special menu together with Ghostbusters-themed food, and it looks like it will be just as awful as the upcoming film.

The menu includes the G.B. Burger, which includes hamburger, purple cabbage, a black olive, and anchovy paste. Then there’s the Marshmallow Mad Burger, which features roasted marshmallows stuffed with Oreos with a red jam-like goo dripping from the top. They also have the Slimer Smoothie, which is a kiwi-flavored drink topped with burger-shaped candy and the Black Chili Chips.

There is nothing here that looks appetizing to me. Yuck!

Television proudly continue our annual Preview Night tradition, with exclusive world premiere screenings of the pilot episodes of five of the most highly anticipated series of the 2016–17 television season — Riverdale, Powerless, People of Earth, Frequency and Time After Time — as well as a brand new episode of Teen Titans Go! and the debut of Justice League Action. Ballroom 20

Frequency: Based on the New Line feature film, Frequency is the story of a father and daughter who are supernaturally reunited two decades after his suspicious and untimely death. New York detective Raimy Sullivan was only seven when her father, undercover cop Frank Sullivan, abandoned his family in pursuit of a case that led not only to his family’s breakup, but also his eventual death undercover. Always believing her dad died in disgrace as a corrupt cop, Raimy set forth to surpass him in law enforcement, rising through the ranks to detective. But everything she knows changes when somehow Raimy and Frank connect — across two decades — over Frank’s vintage ham radio in the garage. Where once Frank was lost in the shadows of his undercover work in 1996, he has now miraculously been found by his now-grown daughter in 2016. As they forge a new relationship while working together in two time periods to close an unsolved serial murder investigation, their emotional connection transcends time to not only repair the broken bonds of their family, but also defy fate and change the course of destiny. From Lin Pictures in association with Warner Bros. Television, Frequency premieres Wednesday, October 5 at 9/8c on The CW. Jeremy Carver (Supernatural), Toby Emmerich (Frequency film), John Rickard (Horrible Bosses), Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes films), Jennifer Gwartz (Veronica Mars) and Brad Anderson (Fringe) are executive producers.

Time After Time: Using the 1979 novel and movie as a launching point, Time After Timechronicles the epic adventures of a young H.G. Wells. At the age of 28, the 19th century scholar has yet to publish any of his landmark science fiction novels, but his idealistic thinking and radical ideas have led him to actually create a time machine. When his longtime friend — the charismatic (and secretly psychopathic) Dr. John Stevenson, aka Jack the Ripper — finds himself cornered by the authorities at Wells’ London home, he escapes to present-day New York City using the time machine. Naturally, Wells follows, but instead of the Utopian society he imagined would be in the future, he finds a world more aligned to Stevenson’s temperament. Fortunately, Wells meets up with Jane Walker, an assistant curator at a museum staging an exhibition on Wells. As Wells and Jane come together, they will not only play a dangerous endgame with Stevenson, but also find themselves involved with the incredible characters and scenarios that inspired Wells’ War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, The Island of Dr. Moreau and more. An epic love story charged with danger and adventure, Time After Time gives an unpredictable spin on the mythology of H.G. Wells by looking at the world of today through the eyes of yesterday. Based on the novel written by Karl Alexander and produced by Outerbanks Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television, Time After Time premieres midseason on ABC. Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries) and Marcos Siega (The Following) are executive producers.

6:30 p.m.–7:20 p.m. Riverdale Pilot Screening and Q&A — Things aren’t always what you expect in Riverdale. Based on the iconic characters from Archie Comics and produced by Berlanti Productions (The Flash, Supergirl, Blindspot, Everwood), this one-hour drama is a bold, subversive take on the surreality of small-town life. As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music — and not follow in his dad’s footsteps — despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel). Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him — certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind — as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves — which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother, Alice (Mädchen Amick) — aren’t the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between she and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)… Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows. Riverdale makes its Comic-Con debut with a screening of the complete pilot episode, followed by a Q&A with series stars and executive producers. Riverdale is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Blindspot), Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Supergirl, Glee), Sarah Schechter (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Blindspot) and Jon Goldwater (Archie Comics). Riverdale premieres midseason on The CW. Room 6BCF

7:25–8:15 p.m. Frequency Pilot Screening and Q&A — Based on the New Line feature film,Frequency is the story of a father and daughter who are supernaturally reunited two decades after his suspicious and untimely death. New York detective Raimy Sullivan was only 7 when her father, Frank Sullivan, an undercover cop, abandoned his family in pursuit of a case that led not only to his family’s breakup, but also his eventual death undercover. 8:20–9:15 p.m. Time After Time Pilot Screening and Q&A — Using the 1979 novel and movie as a launching point, Time After Time chronicles the epic adventures of a young H.G. Fortunately, Wells meets up with Jane Walker, an assistant curator at a museum staging an exhibition on H.G. Wells, the Father of Science Fiction. Time After Time makes its Comic-Con debut with a screening of the complete pilot episode, followed by a Q&A with executive producers Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries, Dawson’s Creek, The Following, Scream movies) and Marcos Siega(Blindspot, The Following, The Vampire Diaries, Dexter, Cold Case, Veronica Mars) and series starsFreddie Stroma (Harry Potter films, Pitch Perfect, Game of Thrones, 13 Hours, UnREAL) and Genesis Rodriguez (Identity Thief, Man on a Ledge, Entourage, Big Hero 6). LITTLE HERO is an Adventurous and Charming Comic Strip About a Boy's Imagination

I’ve got a wonderful comic strip here created by Patrick Quach called Little Hero. It tells the story of a young boy who, bored in school, gets sucked into his imagination where he embarks on an adventure to save a girl from a villainous octopus-like creature. It's a wonderfully charming story. I enjoy stories that dive into the imagination of children because that’s the kind of kid I was growing up — I would get lost in my imagination, and these kinds of stories bring back some of those nostalgic memories. I'd love to see someone animate this and bring it to life.

Footage From Marvel’s Cancelled DAREDEVIL Video Game Surfaces

Before Ben Affleck’s Daredevil movie was announced, 5000ft Inc. was developing a video game based on the character for the PlayStation 2. Marvel and Sony were developing the game, but there were a lot of issues that hurt the development of the game because they couldn’t agree on certain aspects of it.

The game was supposed to feature a series of vignettes, each one highlighting some of Daredevil's most iconic story arcs and characters. Apparently, Frank Miller’s run on the comic served as a heavy inspiration and the game would have included characters like Elektra, Bullseye, Kingpin, and even the Punisher.

Things on the game really started falling apart after the movie was announced. That changed the whole thing and it went into an open-world Grand Theft Auto type game. Things seemed to be going well with the changes, but Sony and Marvel just had different visions that ultimately killed the project. Sony wanted inventive gameplay mechanics and Marvel water to stick closer to the simple stuff and adhere to the character’s roots. They just couldn’t get on the same page, which led to the project’s demise.

The video comes from DidYouKnowGaming and it gives us a history of the game along with some of the first footage that’s been released. It looks like it could have been cool!

In 1977, NASA launched the Voyager 1 and 2 into space, and they are still exploring our solar system today. Voyager 2 has made its way past Uranus and Neptune and it is expected to enter interstellar space sometime this year, where it will provide the first direct measurements of the density and temperature of the interstellar plasma.

The Voyager spacecraft are expected to be able to operate science instruments through 2020, when limited power will require instruments to be deactivated one by one. Sometime around 2025, there will no longer be sufficient power to operate any science instruments.

Santiago Menghini has created and released a stunning tribute to the Voyager Space Program that you’ve got to watch. It came with the following description:

Travel along with the Voyager spacecrafts as they traverse the solar system on their planetary expedition spanning over three decades.
This film showcases the images and sounds of the solar system through the real photographs and plasma frequencies received by the voyager crafts.

This kind of stuff is so cool and mind blowing! Enjoy the video!

Wayne Berendhuysen from EHV Props created this incredibly cool cosplay of Tony Stark’s Mark 39 ”Gemini" Iron Man armor. This is the Sub-Orbital suit that was briefly introduced in Iron Man 3. The armor come complete with realistic-looking rocket thrusters coming from the hands and jetpack.

The effect was created by using CO2 and 10-watt floodlight LEDs. He describes this his Iron Man armor cosplay as his “Eleanor,” which is in reference to the film Gone In 60 Seconds.

You can see the suit in action in the video below.

10 Actors Who Hated Their Comic Book Movie Costumes

I imagine dressing up in a superhero costume in a comic book film could be a little weird at first for some actors. I think they’ve got to just let themselves go and not think about it. Some actors weren’t very happy with their costumes in some of the films they’ve starred in and ScreenRant has released a video list featuring ten of them, some of which include Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Ron Perlman as Hellboy, Ben Affleck as Batman, and more. Even if the actors didn't like them, there are a ton of cosplayers that do and who go out of their way to craft them and wear them.
