First JUSTICE LEAGUE Clip Screened Involves Barry Allen Meeting Bruce Wayne

0
0

The first clip from Justice League was screened at a press event for the film and thanks to ComicBook.com and Gizmodo, we have a pretty complete description of the scene. It involves Ezra Miller's Barry Allen meeting Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne for the first time.

The scene starts out with Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen heading into his apartment. It’s dark and seems to be part of what looks like a warehouse. It’s unconventional - high ceilings, looks old, and is powered by a circuit breaker when Barry arrives to flip its switch. When that switch is flipped, dozens of lights and TV screens hanging from the ceiling are turned on. More importantly, Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne is sitting in Barry’s apartment waiting for him.
“Barry Allen… Bruce Wayne,” Bruce says to a stunned Barry. “You say that is if it’s normal to have a complete stranger sitting in my second favorite chair,” Barry responds to several laughs from the select press members watching. Bruce quickly reveals a print out of a screenshot from the convenience store surveillance footage which served as one of The Flash’s cameos in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Bruce questions Barry about what he’s doing in the moments caught on camera, but Barry insists, comedically, that is someone who looks exactly like him but is definitely not him."

The humorous conversation between the two characters goes like this:

“That’s a person who looks exactly like me but is definitely not,” Allen replies. “Hippie, long hair, very attractive Jewish boy. He drinks milk, I don’t drink milk,” he jokes as Wayne starts to walk over to a red suit standing in the apartment.
“I know you have abilities, I just don’t know what they are,” says Wayne.
“My special skills include viola, web design…” Allen rambles as Wayne examines the suit and notes it’s made of a very specific heat resistant material. “Yeah, I do competitive ice dancing,” Allen says.
“This is the stuff the space shuttle uses to prevent from burning up on reentry.”
“…Very competitive ice dancing?”
Just then, the film turns to slow-motion as Bruce Wayne hurls one of the razor-sharp, bat-logo-shaped throwing stars he used in BvS at Allen. Allen looks at it inquisitively as it passes him in slow motion then, with a profound realization, grabs it out of the air. Silence, surprise, and then: “You’re the Batman?”
“And you’re fast.”
“That feels like an oversimplification.”
Bruce tells Allen he’s putting together a team of people with special abilities because he believes enemies are coming. Barry immediately wants to be part of it, and Batman can’t help but ask why he’s agreed so quickly. “I need friends,” says Barry, just before holding up the throwing-bat/star. “Can I keep this?”

It sounds to me like Barry Allen is going to be the one who steals the show. Justice League is going to have a presence at Comic-Con this year, and I imagine fans in attendance at the panel will not only get to see the cast of the film but maybe even a clip or two, including this one. It's sure to get the crowd of fans excited, regardless of whether they liked or hated Batman v Superman. The energy at Comic-Con is just pure excitement, so everything tends to look awesome.

Learn About The Music of SWISS ARMY MAN in This Featurette

One of the biggest reasons I'm going to see Swiss Army Man is because one of my favorite bands is involved! Andy Hull, lead singer of Manchester Orchestra, did the score for the film and did a really good job! It's unique, which falls in line with a film about a corpse that essentially doubles as a Swiss Army knife. See how it all came together below!

By the way, if you've never heard of Manchester Orchestra, they've had two songs on rock radio: "I've Got Friends" and "Simple Math." Check them out below the featurette!

KONG: SKULL ISLAND Director Promises The Film Will Have The Biggest Kong Ever

I'm extremely curious about Kong: Skull Island, the upcoming action film from The Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. From the brief early look at footage we've seen, the setting and the cast look amazing, so I'm looking forward to seeing if Vogt-Roberts can up the ante in a big way from his previous indie movie to a massive hundred-million-plus budgeted blockbuster. (Colin Trevorrow did it with Jurassic World and Gareth Edwards did it with Godzilla, but Josh Trank proved it's not always an easy task.)

But the budget and the sets aren't the only things that are going to be big about Kong: Skull Island. Speaking at a CineEurope presentation (via THR), Vogt-Roberts made a big promise about the movie's main attraction:

"This is going to be the biggest Kong there's ever been," boasted director Jordon Vogt-Roberts. "Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape."

It's unclear at this point whether Kong ever actually leaves Skull Island in this movie, but even if he stays put for the whole film, it should still be pretty stunning to see a 100-foot ape stomping through the jungle. Kong: Skull Island stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Corey Hawkins, Toby Kebbell, Jason Mitchell, and John Goodman, and it arrives on March 10, 2017.

Abandoned STAR WARS: UNDERWORLD TV Show Would Have Made Us Feel Sympathy For Palpatine

The description of classic Star Wars villain Emperor Palpatine on the character's Wikipedia page ends like this:

Since the initial theatrical run of Return of the Jedi, Palpatine has become a widely recognized popular culture symbol of evil, sinister deception, tyranny, and the subversion of democracy.

With a description like that, did you ever think there may have been a way for the creatives at Lucasfilm to make us feel any sympathy for that character? I certainly didn't. But in a new interview with VentureBeat (via io9), Cory Barlog — the director of the new God of War and a former LucasArts employee — talks about getting his hands on some of the scripts for Star Wars: Underworld (the live-action Star Wars TV series that was abandoned before it ever went into production), and it turns out "sympathy for Palpatine" was going to be one of the major surprises of the series. When asked about approaching God of War's angry protagonist Kratos in a new way in the new game, Barlog brought it back to his time working on Star Wars and gave us some details in the process:

...A character can go from one extreme to another. They can go from a character you loathe to a character you love and root for.
Probably the really small beginnings of this idea, the germination of this — when I was working at Lucas, I was allowed to go up to the ranch and read the scripts for the [canceled live-action Star Wars] TV show. It was the most mind-blowing thing I’d ever experienced. I cared about the Emperor. They made the Emperor a sympathetic figure who was wronged by this fucking heartless woman. She’s this hardcore gangster, and she just totally destroyed him as a person. I almost cried while reading this. This is the Emperor, the lightning out of the fingers Emperor. That’s something magical. The writers who worked on that, guys from The Shield and 24, these were excellent writers.

As if we needed another reason to be heartbroken that this show never came to life! Lucasfilm has said they're interested in mining those unproduced scripts for ideas for future projects, but they've cautioned that we won't see a live-action TV show any time soon. THE FORCE AWAKENS Star John Boyega Joins Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit Riots Film

I've been anxiously awaiting Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow's follow-up to 2012's excellent Zero Dark Thirty, and after months of her appearing on fan lists of ideal candidates to direct a superhero movie, it appears she's finally settled on her next project: an untitled drama written by The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty scribe Mark Boal detailing the Detroit riots of 1967. That sounds great by itself, but there's even better news: Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega has been cast in the lead role. The actor made the announcement on Instagram:

I've teamed up with Kathryn Bigelow for a movie based on the Detroit riots in 1967. Kathryn's talent is undeniable and I'm really looking forward to collaborating with her on such an important story.

A photo posted by BOYEGA (@jboyega_) on

Further details about the movie are scarce at this point, but it tracks the five-day riot that broke out in the city in 1967 that resulted in 43 deaths, almost 1,200 injuries, over 7,000 arrests, and over 2,000 buildings being destroyed. The subject matter is sadly still relevant in the aftermath of the events of Ferguson and the fallout from those riots, and Bigelow's movie is aiming for a 2017 release.

THE BIRTH OF A NATION Trailer: Nate Parker Leads a Righteous Rebellion Against Slavery

All the hard work of writer/producer/director/star Nate Parker seems to have paid off in a big way with The Birth of a Nation, his Sundance sensation that received rave reviews from critics (including Joey) and sold to Fox Searchlight for a staggering $17.5 million. We saw the film's first teaser a little while back, but now the studio has unveiled its first official trailer, and it's a moving, powerful depiction of rebellion against suppression. Parker stars alongside Armie Hammer, Aja Naomi King, Mark Boone Jr., Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis, Dwight Henry, Esther Scott, Roger Geunveur Smith, and Gabrielle Union with Penelope Ann Miller and Jackie Earle Haley.

The Birth of a Nation arrives in theaters on October 7.

Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat's preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities - against himself and his fellow slaves - Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.

Witness The World's Largest NERF Gun in This Amazing Video!

It's NERF or nothin'? More like this will NERF you into nothin'! Seriously, I would not want to take a hit from what is recorded to be the "world's largest NERF gun." Created by Mark Rober, the gun is powered by a paintball air canister and shoots pool noodles with plungers on them at about 40 miles per hour.

As for strength? We see it's strong enough to break glass and stick to street signs, but then we see a kid take one to the leg. I would hope maybe he didn't go full power with that shot, but then how else will these kids learn respect?

Killability or not, could you imagine whipping this bad boy out at the park?

Paul Feig Says He Has Ideas For SPY 2 Involving Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham's Idiotic Secret Agent

0

I'm convinced not enough people gave Paul Feig's Spy a chance last year because the trailers made it look terrible. You may have skipped it, but in my review, I called it one of the best action comedies ever made, so it's pretty clear that I loved it and think more people should seek it out. It's one of the extraordinarily few movies that actually utilizes Melissa McCarthy correctly, and Jason Statham's hilariously overconfident secret agent Rick Ford was one of the aspects that really took the film to another level.

Good news for those of us who loved the film: co-writer/director Paul Feig says he has plans for a sequel, and both McCarthy and Statham would be involved. He told Empire:

“That’s another world that I don’t want to walk away from. It's the first thing I did that I set up to be a possible franchise and Melissa is dying to do it. I have a story for it, and a funny idea that will kick it off that involves Statham."
"Susan Cooper is one of my favourite characters I’ve ever come up with,” continues Feig, "but Rick Ford is possibly the one I’ll take to the grave with me. Will he get any more self-aware in the sequel? No, god no. He’ll get less self-aware.”

I can't wait to see that. Spy didn't perform especially well at the box office, but maybe it made enough of a splash in the home video market that a studio will greenlight this sequel. In the meantime, check out this excellent video that imagines an animated version of some of Rick Ford's bold claims:

Video Essay Explains Why INDEPENDENCE DAY's Script is So Effective

Like most kids who were twelve years old when Independence Day came out, I loved the movie. But rewatching it in recent years, some of the magic vanished as I concentrated more on the cheesy dialogue. But a new video essay from Lessons From The Screenplay examines the movie on a detailed structural level I'd never really considered before, tracking how — despite its occasional cheesiness — it's an impressively efficient piece of screenwriting that ties all of its action to character moments (something many of today's blockbusters forget or fail to do). Watching this made me reconsider and appreciate the film a little more, and maybe it'll do the same for you.

Independence Day: Resurgence comes out this Friday.

ARCHER Renewed For Three More Seasons of Eight Episodes Each

0

Good news for fans of the Figgis Detective Agency and the world's most famous former superspy, Sterling Archer: Adam Reed's hilarious FX spy comedy Archer has been renewed for three more seasons, according to Variety. But there's a little bit of bad news, too (well, not bad, but slightly disappointing) — all three new seasons will only contain eight episodes each. Seasons one and seven had 10 episodes each, while every other season featured thirteen, so this is less Archer than we're used to.

But the fact that the show is coming back at all should be cause for a huge sigh of relief for those of us who watched the most recent season of the show, which — SPOILER ALERT if you haven't caught up yet — ended with Archer seemingly dead floating face down in a pool. I can't wait to see how the writers write their way out of that one.

“We can’t say enough about what Adam, Matt and the entire Archer team at Floyd County [Productions] have done to keep this series so insanely funny and vital through seven seasons,” said Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions. “The move to Los Angeles this past season as private detectives was just the latest twist in Archer’s legendary exploits and the next three seasons will to be just as amazing and unpredictable. We are thrilled to continue making great TV with our friends and colleagues at Floyd County.”

SUICIDE SQUAD Gets Some Colorful, Eye-Popping Character Posters

The trailers have been mostly weird and pretty bonkers, but if you're looking for a sign that Warner Bros. and DC are trying to position Suicide Squad as far away as they can from the grim grittiness of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, look no further than these newly-released character posters. These are the brightest, most ridiculously flashy character posters I've seen in a long time (maybe ever), coming hot on the heels of the real movie poster reveal yesterday, and the execs at WB are clearly going out of their way to convince people that this is going to be a tonal 180 from Zack Snyder's movie. The colors, Duke, the colors!

Bryan Cranston Cast as Zordon in POWER RANGERS Movie!

0
0

Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) has brilliantly been cast in the role of Zordon in the upcoming Power Rangers movie. Zordon! Can you believe it?! If you can't, the news comes from Cranston himself! This is the tweet he sent out earlier today:

I would have never thought in a million years that Cranston would be cast as Zordon in the Power Rangers movie, but it's happening, and it's awesome! Zordon serves as the Power Rangers' mentor, and Cranston is going to great as the character!

In case you didn't already know, this isn't the first time the actor has been involved with the franchise. He previously provided voices for series' earlier projects. He was so popular with cast and crew that a character was actually named after the actor. That character was Billy Cranston, the Blue Ranger. It's so cool that he's making a comeback to the franchise.

Cranston joins the previously cast actors that include Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. You can see what the Power Rangers' costumes look like here.

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

Power Rangers is currently in production, and it hits theaters on March 24, 2017.

Details on The Flash’s 148 Piece JUSTICE LEAGUE Costume

0
0

We’ve got some more information on Zack Snyder’s Justice League film to share with you today starting off with some interesting new intel on The Flash costume that Ezra Miller will wear. We got our first glimpse of The Flash in Batman v Superman and we even got a small glimpse of the costume in a set photo that was released.

In almost every on-screen incarnation of the suit that we’ve seen it’s been a one-piece costume, but they are taking things to a new level in Justice League. Barry Allen’s suit for the movie has 148 pieces! During an interview with ComicBook.com, costume designer Michael Wilkinson explains:

"So the question was how many pieces go into a Flash costume. I believe the count is 148. So you can see in this diagram here – one of my favorite documents is how to put together your own Flash costume. And you can see here all of the notation, and all of the different parts. They all have numbers right and left and they all go together when these great costumers are assembling these costumes."

He also went on to share the story behind the look of the costume they came up with, saying:

"Okay, so when Zack and I started talking about Flash, he loved the idea that because this is the first time we're establishing this character in our cinematic universe, that's it's kind of like a prototype suit. He's discovering his powers, he's working out what his thing is, and he is testing things. Some things work, some things don't work. Some things are in development. And so this suit is incredibly beaten up. This is a suit that's being assembled. If you look this way, that is the full suit how it appears in the movie. It's a prototype suit. It's something that is designed to protect him when he moves incredibly fast through space. And so we studied aerodynamics and vehicle design. What moves through space the fastest? We have this sense of rigid pieces at the front that deflect towards the back....There's a sense of a blade like in a plane wing here, and then venting back here. So it all feels very aerodynamic. He's testing different materials. You can see smooth materials like tech materials. We figured he's an incredibly smart, resourceful young man. He moves very fast, so perhaps he's stolen 3D printers. I'm not saying anything. Maybe he's nipped into NASA and stolen some of the materials that they're developing there."

It was also revealed that one of the suits spotted on the set of the film featured a WayneTech corporate logo, so it looks like Bruce Wayne is going to be helping out with the development of his costume, much in the same what that Tony Stark helped Spider-Man with his in Captain America: Civil War

Hopefully, we actually get to see what this costume looks like soon. Who knows, we might get a good look at it at San Diego Comic-Con next month. Yesterday we posted some information regarding two suits that Batman will be sporting in the film in case you missed that. To catch up on all of our Justice League news, click here.

Justice League is currently shooting and is set to be released on November 17th, 2017

Karl Urban Reportedly Confirms DREDD 2 Is in Development

0
0

This past weekend Karl Urban appeared at Denver Comic Con, and apparently during his panel he revealed some exciting information regarding Dredd 2

According to ScienceFiction.com, the actor was asked if he would do a sequel to Dredd even if it was poorly written just for the money. Urban joked about how he needed a new house and then said:

"Yes. ‘Dredd 2′ is in development."

I have no idea if this information is legit or not. I haven't seen it reported anywhere else, but if a Dredd sequel is in development... awesome! The actor recently said that he would like the sequel to Dredd continue as a series on Netflix or Amazon.

There's no other information given, but Dredd 2 being in development could mean several things. It could involve people coming up with a story, writing the script, conversations going on with between talent or other things. When the project actually goes into production, that's when it's time to get extremely excited.

The reason a Dredd sequel hasn't been a slam dunk is because the first movie released in 2012 didn't do very well at the box office. That's because the marketing for the film sucked ass. The movie eventually found its audience on DVD and Blu-ray.

Urban went on to add that now there's an "interest from established creatives and that he would do the sequel if he felt it had depth and substance."

When Dredd 2 finally does happen, the fans better show up and represent! Otherwise we'll probably never see another Dredd film or series again.

Ben Affleck Discusses How Batman Is Seeking Redemption in JUSTICE LEAGUE

0
0

As you all know, Ben Affleck's Batman went way dark in Batman v Superman, and he went on a mean steak brutally beating the shit of people and not caring if anyone who got in his way met their demise. Some fans didn't like it, while others, like me, enjoyed that hardcore brutality of Batman.

Well, some of you will be happy to hear that Batman is going to be on the road to redemption in Justice League. During an interview with ComicBook.com, Affleck talked about bringing Batman out of the darkness and into the redeeming light. This was alluded to in the recently released synopsis:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Affleck expanded on that a bit, saying:

"Batman went to a very dark place that was rooted in this trauma occurred to the people that he loved and worked with and what he saw. This really is not about that issue for him so much anymore. He's no longer extreme in that way. From the experiences of the last movie, he sort of learns some things I think and now is ... I'm trying to say it without giving away any spoilers, but he's feeling like he's wanting to redeem himself and he's wanting mankind to be redeemed and he's wanting to make the world better, having learned lessons that were important in the last movie."

That should be fine, as long as he continues to kick some serious ass as he's finding his redemption. You can still have a lighter tone and kick ass! Marvel is able to do it very well. Of course, Affleck believes that the DC film will still retain some of the darkness that the comic book fans love.

"DC movies are, I think, by their nature still a little bit more Gothic or more mythic rather than some comic book movies are, but [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice] was a heavy, dark movie. It was really rooted in Dark Knight Returns, which is a heavy, dark book. This is not that. This is a step in evolution from that about bringing together all these characters, ones who had their origins and it's about multilateralism and it's about hope. It's about working together and the kind of conflicts that you have trying to work together with others. It's a world with all these other superheroes that exist."

We've been learning a lot about this film recently, and I'm actually kind of excited about what Zack Snyder, Affleck, and the rest of the creative team are doing with it. I'm just hoping that Warner Bros. and that team of people have actually learned lessons from the previous film and they will use those lessons to make the future films of the DCEU better.

What do you think about the Affleck's ideas on the Dark Knight seeking redemption in the upcoming film?

Justice League hits theaters November 17th, 2017.

"That's right. Maybe I'll rip your arm off, beat you to death with it."

I enjoyed the hell out of Jack Reacher, and it's awesome to see Tom Cruise back in action for the sequel! Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and if you thought the first movie was good, then it looks like you won't want to miss out on the sequel.

The story follows Reacher "as he returns to Virginia to meet the head of his former unit. But she's missing, he's being charged with a crime committed nearly 20 years ago, and he may even have a daughter. Making things right will lead him on a cross-country chase to uncover the truth - and maybe even a family."

Cruise is joined by Cobie Smulders in the film as well as Danika Yarosh, Patrick Heusinger, Aldis Hodge, Austin Hebert, and Holt McCallanyJack Reacher: Never Go Back hits theaters on October 21st.

The previous trailer we saw was one from Entertainment Tonight. This new one includes new footage and doesn't have all of the annoyances, so enjoy!
