10 Great Actors Whose Careers Started Out Strangely

0
0

All of the great actors who star in many of the movies we love today had to start somewhere and work their way up. None of them were really instant stars. It’s always interesting to find out how some of these actors actually did get their start, and thanks to ScreenRant, we have a video that lists ten of them including Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Chris Pratt, Aaron Paul, Robert Downey Jr., and more. There’s a few on this list that I wasn’t aware of, like Jackie Chan going into porn for a short period of time.

If you wanna make it in Hollywood, it’s all about who you know. There are always new contacts to be made and networking to be done. Occasionally, the planets align and someone has the good fortune to be born into showbiz. But the majority of people you see onscreen had to hustle pretty hard to get where they are, and make ends meet along the way.
But hey, everyone’s gotta start somewhere, even the famous people. Here are Screen Rant’s 10 Actors Whose Careers Started In Shocking Ways.

Sensational First Teaser Trailer for Disney Animation’s MOANA

0
0

I’ve been excited about Disney’s upcoming animated film Moana since I saw the first footage from it at D23 last year. This looks like it's going to be an incredible film that tells a wonderful story in a visually stunning way. Today we have the first trailer for the film for you to watch, and if you're a fan of Disney, there's no doubt that you're going to love what you see. It seems like it has the makings of another Disney animated classic.

Moana was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog), and it follows Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) who is guided by the demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) on an adventure in the South Pacific. Here’s the full synopsis:

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why.
From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”) and produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”),

Moana sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016.

Possible Details Leak about X-23 in WOLVERINE 3

0
0

Some potential new details have surfaced about a character that is going to be in Wolverine 3. The details come from a casting call for the film that the Hashtag Show managed to get ahold of. That casting call is said to be for a character name Zoe, but it’s believed that the name Zoe is just a cover for the character Laura Kinney, a.k.a. X-23, who is the female clone of Wolverine. You’ll understand why after you read the following description. This character has been rumored to be a part of the story. That rumor gained credence when Bryan Singer said he pitched the character to the studio as a replacement for Wolverine when Hugh Jackman hangs up his claws, and now we have this:

"20th Century Fox are seeking a a 11 - 14 year old girl to play the role of Zoe in a brand new movie!!  [ZOE] 11 to 14 year-old girl. Still a child, but a wounded badass, a pound puppy, raised in captivity in a time of battle, without support systems of normal childhood. She has no family and until now, has never left the compound in which she was born. She has an authentic intensity – her expressions and body language speak volumes, without words. Once released in the outside world, everything is new – every experience and every image a first. This does not mean everything is wonderful or wondrous. Some things she sees (things we might regard as conventional) may scare her or anger her and things we may find interesting may bore her. She has not been instructed in many social conventions – she can eat like an animal. She studies and often mimics people’s behavior. She has a high IQ, but is also a temperamental, impulsive and feral creature that can raise genuine mayhem. She is a girl that has never been kissed. Looking for a REAL girl - not made up or done up. Also with genuine edge, not made up or put on. Martial arts or gymnastics experience preferred but not necessary – but actress must be extremely physical and able to improvise scenes without necessarily resorting to speech. Do NOT play it 'cute.'"

There’s no word on how old this casting call is, the character could have already been cast, and there’s a chance that we’ve already had out first look at her. Over the weekend, we posted some photos from the set of the film featuring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and a mysterious young girl who could easily be playing an 11 to 14-year-old girl. Could that be our first look at X-23? Only time will tell.

The James Mangold-directed movie is currently shooting in New Orleans, Louisiana. It’s set to be released on March 3rd, 2017.

Will The Hulk and Bruce Banner Face Off in THOR: RAGNAROK?

0
0

From what we know about Thor: Ragnarok, it's gonna be to be the most epic, craziest Thor adventure yet. Especially if the story includes elements from Planet Hulk, which was previously rumored

During a recent interview with ColliderMark Ruffalo talked a little bit more about the film and The Hulk and teased that the Green Goliath could face off with Bruce Banner:

"I think the arc that he is ultimately making in his relationship with The Hulk and how that's gonna resolve itself, that's really where ... nobody has gone to that place. He's always been running from him or trying to deny it but they are coming for a collision course with each other and i think that could be pretty exciting if we can figure out a way, how to do it — multi-dimensionally."

At that point during the interview, Ruffalo turned to his Now You See Me 2 co-star Woody Harrelson and excitedly said:

"Hulk versus Banner! Yeah, baby!"

They high fived each other. Then the actor dropped this comment:

"The only person in the world that The Hulk is scared of, or thing, is Banner."

For those of you have read the comics, you know that Hulk and Banner have been separated in certain storylines. That plot point was used in Marvel's animated film Hulk Vs. Thor, which was written by Craig Kyle and Chris Yost. That film features Loki separating Hulk from Banner and Hulk going on an epic rampage through Asgard. Those two writers just happen to be the same guys who wrote the initial script for Thor: Ragnarok

We already knew there was a chance that we could see Hulk and Thor fight from previous rumors, but I would love to see the whole Hulk and Banner separation thing happen in the movie. It's a story element that I can easily see being implemented in the film.

The movie also stars Chris Hemsworth in the title role, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban as Skurge.

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by filmmaker Taika Waititi and is set to be released on November 3rd, 2017.

Norman Reedus Wants to Play GHOST RIDER! Hell Yeah!

0

Norman Reedus has become a household name thanks to his role as Daryl in AMC's The Walking Dead. He's become quite popular in the fan community, and it all started with his starring turn in The Boondock Saints. Since then he has also appeared in several other projects including American Gangster and Marvel's Blade II.

Reedus now has another new show for his fans to enjoy. It's a reality series on AMC that follows the actor on a cross-country motorcycle road trip. While on a press tour for this series, he was asked about Ghost Rider, and if playing the comic book character is something he would be interested in doing if Marvel moved forward with a reboot. This was his exciting response:

"Hell yeah! It would be a blast. Do I get a skull face that’s on fire and all that stuff? F$$$ yeah. I’m down."

I've always liked Ghost Rider, he's just such a badass character. Unfortunately, Nicholas Cage wasn't the right actor for the job, and the filmmakers hired to write and direct those movies could never really get it right.

Well, Marvel has the rights to the character back, and I would absolutely love to see the character adapted again by the Marvel creative team. I personally think Ghost Rider would make a hell of a great series on Netflix. Of course, if they did decide to make a movie I wouldn't complain.

Reedus would be the perfect actor to take on the role of Ghost Rider, and if Marvel does end up adapting the character again for film or as a series, the actor has got to be at the top of their list!

It would be so cool to see this character introduced into the MCU and fighting alongside some of the other heroes in the universe.

DC Announces SUPER HERO GIRLS Full-Length Animated Film with Trailer

0
0

Over the weekend, I posted an article that introduced you to an animated web-series called DC Super Hero Girls. This is something my kids made me aware of that they enjoy watching. I’ve since learned that DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. animation are now developing an animated feature film, which is not only based on the web-series but also a toy line.

The movie is called DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year, and it features DC characters such as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumblebee, Poison Ivy, and Katana as they come together to try and survive the struggles of high school. Mary Ellen Thomas, WBHE Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing, said this in a statement:

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is thrilled to team with DC Entertainment to release DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year on DVD. We’re excited to bring DC Super Hero Girls to life and create an immersive world to help inspire young women like never before. These characters were developed with girls 6-12 in mind and will deliver epic story lines featuring strong females. It truly embraces and celebrates girls as they discover their own unique abilities.”

This Super Hero Girls franchise is pretty cool, especially given the fact that it’s targeted to little girls like my daughters who are looking for this kind of thing to watch. As a geeky dad, it’s fun getting into conversations about these characters with my kids! Then I can be like, “Now, you’ve gotta check out this other series I grew up with called Batman: The Animated Series which has some of these characters you like and a lot more!”

You can watch the trailer for the animated movie below. DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year will be released digitally on August 9th, with a home video version on August 23rd.

For those of you who have a hankering for more Suicide Squad goodness, we’ve got two great new TV spots to share with you! This film looks like it’s going to be a ridiculously fun flick, and I really hope that it blows Batman v Superman away both critically and financially. This is the movie that has the power to restore my faith in this new slate of DC films. Hopefully, it delivers!

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Suicide Squad opens worldwide in 3D, 2D, and select IMAX 3D theaters beginning August 5th, 2016.

Wicked Cool 3D Animated Sci-Fi Short Features Robot Battle

What you are about to watch is a 3D animated short film called "Max Man & Maya Man," and it serves as a promotion video for new versions of the 3D animation software Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Maya. The film brings the personalities of the software to life as robots, and they face off with each other. There's a lot of work that went into creating this animation, and as you’ll see, it turned out to be incredibly cool. Here are the details that came along with the short:

WOW has produced a 4K battle movie that personifies 3D animation software, “Max Man & Maya Man.” The special movie in conjunction with the announcement of the release of new versions of 3D animation software packages “Autodesk 3ds Max®” and “Autodesk Maya®.” This film features a battle scene between robots that personify the unique features of each software package, “Max Man” and “Maya Man.” WOW was in charge of planning, character design, and movie creation.
Autodesk’s special site, the 3D model data for the two characters in the film, “Max Man” and “Maya Man” are made available free of charge for use within the software applications. Also, by providing free trial versions of the software packages and an environment that makes it easily accessible, they hope to spark an interest in VFX among new users and the younger generation. They plan to release 3D print data for Max Man and Maya Man, so it will be easy to make 3D prints of the characters.

Raptor-Human Hybrid Concept Art for Early JURASSIC PARK 4 Film Project

0
0
raptor-human-hybrid-concept-art-for-jurassic-park-4

Some new concept art has been released for a very early version of Jurassic Park 4. Before Colin Trevorrow jumped on board to direct Jurassic World, there was a script written in 2005 by screenwriters William Monahan (The Departed) and John Sayles (Spiderwick Chronicles). The story that they wrote involved dinosaur and human DNA testing gone terribly wrong and the tests resulted in some crazy looking human-dino hybrids. These intelligent hybrid creatures, who had the ability to shoot weapons and solve complicated problems, would break free in the story and wreak havoc on the park.

The latest piece of concept art comes from Carlos Huantes, and it features a genetically modified raptor-human hybrid. We've previously posted some different concept art of various other human-dino hybrid creatures that you can check out here

This would have been an incredibly weird Jurassic Park movie! It was completely the wrong direction to take the story, so luckily they ended up ditching the idea and making Jurassic World. If anyone ever makes a movie involving weaponized dinosaurs, it has to be an adaptation of Dino Riders!

Study Confirms Superman Is the Greatest Superhero of All Time, Batman Worst

0
0

What are they teaching the kids in school these days?! Gizmodo reports that students at the University of Leicester have used science to confirm Superman is the best, and Batman, unfortunately, is the worst. The study used a number of considerations to see which hero is most "well-equipped" when it comes to fighting crime. Superman came in first, and Thor and Wolverine both had impressive stats. You can see the chart below this...

I didn't make a chart or use any deductive reasoning, but this study is some bull s***! First off, Ice Man is an Omega class mutant! He can absorb enough moisture to create a vacuum within a room, grow enormous in size, and do tons of other stuff. As much as I hate to admit it, yeah it would be tough for a real life Batman to take on the likes of Superman, but Ice-Man?! Come on.

Flawed results aside, I guess it's cool that people can do this in college for class assignments!

HEY ARNOLD Voice Actors Discuss the Show in Throwback Clip

I know someone here other than me has to appreciate this! I uncovered this old behind the scenes clip of the Nicktoon Hey Arnold and thought it was really interesting. For starters, I had no idea that the kids were actually voiced by kids! Usually, it's adults with high pitched voices!

No real stuff of substance here, but the nostalgia reminded me of a lot of the reasons why I loved this show growing up. Check it out!

NARCOS Season 2 Comes to Netflix September 2nd

The second season of Narcos is coming this fall! Netflix announced via a short video that the series would debut its second season September 2nd. If you missed the first season, the series features the American hunt for Pablo Escobar in the early '90s. It's much better than the version they made on Entourage in my opinion, but to each their own.

I fell out after a couple episodes as it was a bit too gory for my wife's liking and never got back in. I'll have to binge it sometime soon to catch up!

GAME OF THRONES: Best Moments From Season 6, Ep. 8 "No One"

0
0

Warning: spoilers ahead for season 6, episode 8 of Game of Thrones, entitled "No One." If you haven't seen the episode yet, turn back now.

This season, I'm going to try to write up some quick thoughts about each episode the day after it airs. I won't get too deep into full-on recaps (you can find those all over the internet, and you've probably already read a few today if you're into that sort of thing) and will instead focus on what I consider to be each episode's best moments. This can be as many or as few as I want, and will likely vary every episode — today, there are three. I'll also toss in some additional observations that don't fit into the "best moments" category, which you can find at the bottom of the post. For the best moments of earlier episodes this season, click here. Onward!

3. Arya vs. The Waif

On a gut level, this confrontation was satisfying because the Waif has been straight up kicking Arya's ass for multiple seasons at this point, so it was cool to see Arya lure her into the darkness, where she's proven to be a better fighter thanks to her extended blindness (I don't think candles work that way, though — wouldn't the lit end have remained illuminated as it fell to the floor?). She settles her debt with Jaqen and the Many-Faced God by adding the Waif's face to the hall, and though this action apparently earns her the final approval of Jaqen (she finally became "no one"), Arya immediately rejects the title and heads for home. That, too, is satisfying, but when I step back and look at the larger picture of Arya's storyline over the past couple of seasons, I can't help but think there was an awful lot of wheel-spinning going on for this to be the final outcome of her training. Sure, she's good at fighting in the dark now, and yeah, maybe she gained a better sense of self in the process, but at this point I'm not sure the whole excursion to Braavos was worth it. Hopefully the rest of her plotlines in the show include many more moments that directly correlate to her time there in order to further justify it.

2. The Hound Reunites With The Brotherhood

The Hound tracks down the defecting members of the Brotherhood Without Banners who murdered Brother Ray and his village last week and absolutely destroys them with his axe, eventually reuniting with Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr (who looks a lot like William Hurt), and the remaining members of the true Brotherhood. After a hanging, the gang tries to talk the Hound into joining, and whether or not the Hound eventually takes them up on their offer, it looks like they're all going to be heading north together soon. Far enough north to have any impact on next week's events at Winterfell? That's probably too much to ask for. (I thought we were going to see Lady Stoneheart in this episode for sure, and if you don't know who that is, don't Google it because it's a massive spoiler and could technically still be a reveal in the finale.)

1. Brienne and Pod at Riverrun

Well, that siege didn't last long. With the Blackfish (apparently) dead and Brienne and Pod rowing off into the distance with Jaime Lannister's approval, that whole subplot seems to have come to an end rather quickly. But I don't really care that much about the machinations at Riverrun — the best moments in this episode were character-based, like Bronn and "Podrick fucking Payne" messing around outside the tents while Jaime and Brienne spoke. The latter two have a complicated relationship and it was nice to see some flickers of that in their conversation, though it doesn't seem like they'll be seeing each other again any time soon. It's important to note that Jaime giving Brienne Oathkeeper for good is a big deal because it's a Valyrian steel sword, and as we've seen elsewhere, those and dragonglass (obsidian) are the only things that can kill White Walkers. (One thing I didn't realize: co-showrunner D.B. Weiss said in a post-show interview that there are probably only ten of those swords left in the world.) But my favorite lines in the episode were in the exchange between Brienne and Pod when they first arrived at Riverrun:

"Looks like a siege, my lady."

"You have a keen military mind, Pod."

Additional Observations

Tyrion seemed pretty pleased with himself that Meereen is back to some semblance of normalcy, and his parting with Varys seemed bittersweet in the way that often happens in TV shows and movies which indicates those two characters will never see each other again. Meanwhile, we get yet another scene of Tyrion attempting to get Missandei and Grey Worm to loosen up. This was the best one, but it was interrupted by the slavers attacking the city, which lead to one of the episode's worst moments: Dany strolling into the Meereen pyramid after being dropped off by Drogon off-screen. She's just going to stand there and not say anything? Do the showrunners pay Emilia Clarke by the word or something, and they're trying to save money? Talk about anti-climactic.

Bummer about Lady Crane. It was nice to see her put Arya's suggestions into practice and change the script in the play, but for God's sake, get a flask or something! Did you see how she was about to drink from that unattended pitcher in her dressing room even after she nearly died doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago?

Tommen banishing trial by combat seems like a pretty big blow to Cersei's grand plan to use the Mountain as her not-so-secret weapon, but it's an even bigger blow to the fan theory about "Cleganebowl," which guessed/hoped that Cersei would choose the Mountain as her champion and the Faith would choose The Hound, so we'd get to see the two brothers face off in a battle to the death. But Cersei has something far more incendiary up her sleeve (that mysterious "rumor" she spoke about with Qyburn), and I'm guessing we'll see it play out in the season finale in two weeks.

What did you think about this week's episode?

Netflix Signs Off On Animated BIG MOUTH Series By Nick Kroll

Nick Kroll just finalized a deal with Netflix for an animated series called Big Mouth. The show will be Kroll's take on puberty, which already sounds hilarious. Kroll will be joined behind the scenes by Family Guy writer/producer Andrew Goldberg, and voices will feature the likes of Jordan Peele, Jenny Slate, Fred Armisen, and more. Kroll had this to say about his new series:

“Andrew and I have been best friends since 1st grade, so this show is over 30 years in the making. I can’t wait to tell all the stories that make up the glorious nightmare of puberty.”

Expect to see the show sometime in 2017!

HBO's Limited Series THE NIGHT OF Gets an Atmospheric New Trailer

0
0

A few years ago, James Gandolfini was slated to star in a limited HBO series called Criminal Justice. But then he unexpectedly passed away, and Robert De Niro stepped in to replace him in the project. De Niro bailed soon after because of scheduling issues, but HBO kept it in development anyway. The project got a new name — The Night Of — and John Turturro ended up taking on the lead role, starring opposite Nightcrawler and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Riz Ahmed. You may have seen brief teaser trailers for the limited series airing on HBO over the past couple of months, but now the network has released a new one that gives us our best look yet at what to expect.

THE NIGHT OF delves into the intricacies of a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones. The story examines the police investigation, the legal proceedings, the criminal justice system and the feral purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused await trial for felony crimes.

Steven Zallian, the Oscar-winning writer of Schindler's List, Mission: Impossible, Gangs of New York, and American Gangster, is the main creative force behind the scenes here, having written all of the episodes and directed the majority of them. The Night Of premieres on HBO on July 10th at 9pm.

Video: Things You May Not Have Known About THE RING

I've only seen The Ring once in my life. That was enough to make me question any blank VHS I will ever see for the rest of my days. Luckily that doesn't happen so much anymore, and even if I did find one, I would have a hell of a time trying to find somewhere to play it! I'm getting off topic here...

Screen Crush created a "did you know" video about this iconic horror film, and while I knew some of it already, a lot of it was new info for me. Enjoy! You have 7 days!
