Donald Glover's FX Series ATLANTA Gets a Cool Teaser Trailer; Show Will Premiere in September

I've been looking forward to Donald Glover's new FX series Atlanta for years, and while we still don't have an exact premiere date, at least now we finally know which month it will debut: September 2016.

The network released a cool new teaser trailer for show, which shows Glover and his friends walking backwards through the streets of ATL, and the footage plays in reverse to make it appear that they're moving forward. For a show that's been described as "Twin Peaks with rappers," it's a fitting way to set up what's sure to be a show that's visually distinct from any of its contemporaries.

Atlanta centers on Glover's character, Earnest "Earn" Marks, a loner who returns to Atlanta and is struggling to get by. His cousin becomes the city's hottest rapper, and Earn sees an opportunity to become his manager.

In addition to being an actor and an Emmy-winning writer, Glover also has a successful career as a Grammy-nominated rapper; he operates under the name Childish Gambino. Earlier this week, I wondered when we'd hear another full album from him, but it's clear he's been busy working on this show. At first, I thought the music in this trailer might be a Gambino original, but it's actually "New Person, Same Old Mistakes" by Tame Impala. Still, I'm holding out hope we get to hear at least a few new Gambino tracks within the context of the series.

Anthony Hopkins Joins TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT

The Transformers film franchise has been able to attract the names of some very respectable actors over the years like Stanely Tucci, Jon Voight, Jon Turturro, Frances McDormand, Kelsey Grammer, and more. I don't know what attracts them to these films other than money, but Sir Anthony Hopkins is the latest actor to join the upcoming film Transformers: The Last Knight. The news was posted the film's official twitter account:

There's no information on who Hopkins will be playing, but he's either going to be some kind of government official, a crazed conspiracy theorist, or maybe even the voice of one of the villains. I personally think it would be awesome if he ended up providing the voice of Unicron, who we previously speculated could be in this movie. Orson Welles provided the voice of Unicron in the original animated movie, and Hopkins' voice seems like he would fit the character.

Hopkins joins the previously cast Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, Josh Duhamel as Lieutenant Colonel Lennox, Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School) as the film’s female lead, Izabella, and Jerrod Carmichael (Neighbors) will play an unspecified leading role.

Michael Bay is directing the film, which is set to be released on June 23rd, 2017.

Sam Raimi Developing Tornado Heist Thriller, Which I Never Knew I Needed

THR is reporting that Sam Raimi is developing an original action adventure that he will produce and may also direct. The film is described as a “heist caper set in the Carolinas during a tornado storm and centers on the relationship between one man and his older mentor.”

I am all about this. Even if it ends up being bad, it is unlikely to be boring, and if this movie is even like 1% better than “Twister but with thieves,” I will definitely end up buying it on Blu-ray and watching it everyday for a month. And let’s be real, with Raimi attached, it will probably be better than Twister but with thieves.

The untitled project, which used to have the working title Stormfall, is set up at Warner Bros and is currently in search of writers for the script. I hope they get someone good, because I am all about this movie, and it’ll be a total letdown if the script is bad.

Raimi, who directed the Evil Dead films as well as the original Spider-Man trilogy, in case you needed reminding, most recently produced Don’t Breathe, a thriller due out in August

Video: PREACHER'S Dominic Cooper Talks Jesse Custer and His Past

If you haven't watched the pilot for Preacher yet, you're messing up! I know a lot of friends who were holding off until they read the comics, but I didn't have any trouble following the show having not read the series. Basically all you need to know is that something supernatural is happening in the world while all these events are going on! Pretty standard, so if that's holding you back, don't hesitate to jump in — this show is great!

For those that have seen the pilot, IGN did an interview with Dominic Cooper aka Jesse Custer on the character's motivations and how the show will move forward from here. He also discusses the brilliance in starting the show before the comics begin. Hear him go on AND WATCH THE SHOW IF YOU HAVEN'T!

3 Questions That Could Spark Great Stories in the HARRY POTTER Universe

With Harry Potter and the Cursed Child hitting stages next week, I’ve been reflecting on the Harry Potter world. J. K. Rowling has been giving us little bits of details, like confirming Dumbledore is gay, or that there are 11 wizarding schools in her world, for several years now through Twitter, Pottermore, and other releases.

This is, to an extent, awesome! I started reading Harry Potter probably in 5th or 6th grade, and I devoured those books. I was ecstatic when my grandmother took me to see the first movie in theaters! I was angry when Snape killed Dumbledore. Oops, spoiler alert! However, I feel like after 14 years of books and movies, Harry and company deserve to be left alone.

I am excited to hear that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them isn’t taking place in London with the Golden Trio. I don’t think we need more stories of Harry or even wizards in the London area; we already got seven books about that. Instead, here are three questions that could spark great stories from the Potterverse.

1) How do Technology and Magic Coexist Today?

As I already mentioned, I’m a little done with London wizards, so this could take place in America, Canada, Brazil, etc. Also, Harry Potter took place before the internet was huge and before smartphones. How do those things affect wizards? Are wizards a dying breed because they stop using their magic in favor of Candy Crush or Angry Birds? Do they finally allow for pens instead of silly quills? I understand that in Goblet of Fire they explain magic can interfere with electricity and other technology, but have they found a way to use magic and technology? That could be a struggle for a Muggle-born or a squib. They have to do normal school but can’t do their research because mom used magic and crashed their computer. Again.

2) Can Wizards Combine Magic with Martial Arts?

Can you manipulate your magic to enhance your skills and do crazy stuff like in anime? If so, is it based on your martial arts style? Tai chi can be used for water-based magic, while Mantis lets you do crazy acrobatic stunts a la Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Also, do martial arts spells involve wands at any point, or incantations, or just specific movements?

3) How do Wizards Keep Magic a Secret?

I’m sure there’s a team on each of the ministries of magic whose job it is to make sure muggles don’t see paranormal stuff like ghosts or spells. What’s a day in their life like? I can picture it now, a ghost flies by causing mischief, so the team is dispatched to keep it secret. They arrive and thankfully no one has seen the ghost yet, but wait, here comes a couple down the alley. How can we stop them from seeing this thing and freaking out?

These are all stories in waiting that Rowling could explore, make money off of since they’re in the Potterverse, and we are less likely to get sick of the characters if she keeps them varied (Note: we don’t need another seven book series on one wizard, I’d love just one book on each of those stories.) Star Wars was so beloved by fans because it had a core story (the Original Trilogy), and then it had the Expanded Universe allowing for additional stories to those that wanted them. Harry Potter has the potential to be like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. So while I’m not terribly excited to hear the story of Harry’s child, I hope Rowling branches out more like she has with Fantastic Beasts.

Kelsey Grammer Explains How He Became Sideshow Bob

Sideshow Bob is perhaps right up there with Kelsey Grammer's work on Cheers and Frasier. Who doesn't love the antics of Bart's would-be murderer? You can't tell me you don't laugh when you hear the iconic "rake scene" from The Simpsons...

Funny story, I tried to recreate that scene as a kid and busted my nose pretty bad doing so! Turns out Grammer has a story on how he came up with the character's voice years ago! Hear him share the story on Graham Norton below.

Stunning 403-Foot Infographic Tells the Entire STAR WARS: EPISODE IV Story

I love that Star Wars still inspires fans to create art for other fans to enjoy. I never get tired of seeing cool, fan-made Star Wars stuff. If you’re like me, you’ve got to check out this epic 403-foot infographic created by Martin Panchaud. It tells the entire story of Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (Special Edition). To scroll through the full infographic, you’ll have to click here.

It includes every line of dialogue, every position every character is standing in, detailed schematics of the franchise's iconic ships, and about 4,845 inches of scrollable information.

The artist who created said:

"This long ribbon reminds (me) of the ancient Chinese script rolls that had to be rolling in and rolled out simultaneously in order to be read. I like this stretch between ages, cultures and technologies.
"However, [the] internet likes short stories and summaries ... with my work I aimed to create a contrast to that."

The end result is stunning. Trust me, you’ll want to see this thing!

Batman Series Stars Adam West and Burt Ward Are Developing a New Project Together

The stars of the original 1960s TV series Batman, Adam West and Burt Ward recently attended MegaCon, and during a Q&A panel they teased a new project that they are working on with each other. They didn’t offer many details, but they did seem pretty excited about it. During the panel West said:

“Well, I have a gag order...However... No no, me and Burt have been working on a new project that's just gonna knock your socks off, and believe me, it's our Batman and Robin!"

There no other information than that. This thing could be a TV show, a web-series, a comic book, or even a film project. When the host asked if the new project would be released in November, West didn’t give him an answer, but I assume that it will happen sometime later this year.

I wonder if it’s the animated Batman movie that they announced last year. They will be providing their voices as the Batman and Robin characters in the film, but I haven’t heard anything about that project since. We’ll find out if these two projects are the same or not eventually.

The panel itself is actually pretty entertaining, and you can watch a shaky video recording of it below.

Funny Trailer Reimagines Tinder as a Superhero Movie

“When I swipe left, people die!”

I’ve got a fun and entertaining trailer for a fake film called Tinder: The Superhero Movie. it reimagines Tinder as a superhero who has the power to kill people by swiping left. A lot of people in the world are using these hookup and dating apps, and this concept includes a few others such as bumble and E-Harmony, who is the villain. Here’s a brief plot summary that came along with the trailer.

As an army of bots descends upon the earth, Tinder fights to save humanity from extinction, one swipe at a time.

Enjoy the ridiculousness!

Fantastically Frightening Trailer for the Turkish Horror Film THE BOOGEYMAN 3: BLACK MAGIC

I’ve got a great trailer for a wickedly terrifying looking Turkish horror film called Üç Harfliler 3: Kara Büyü, which seems to be loosely translated as The Boogeyman 3: Black Magic. There’s some really cool and terrifying imagery in the trailer, and I love the bold dark tone and nightmarish vibe.

The story seems to heavily revolve around a young girl, black magic, and some extremely creepy looking demons who are after the girl. This looks like one hell of a trippy horror movie, and I can’t wait to see it! This trailer doesn’t screw around.

10 Hidden Movie Connections You May Have Never Noticed

$

It's always fun to notice Easter eggs that connect one movie to another. One of the most well-known is the Star Wars connection with Indiana Jones. If you recall, there are Star Wars hieroglyphics of the walls of ancient structures that Jones goes into to explore. ScreenRant released a new video that points out ten film connections like that that you may not have known about before. Some of those movie connections include Blade Runner & Alien, Star Trek & Sherlock Holmes, The Rock & James Bond, Daredevil & TMNT, Star Wars & E.T., and more. There are a few mentioned in the video that I hadn't known before. Here's the note that came with the video:

Shared universes are all the rage these days and have become the norm for major film studios. Whether it’s Marvel, DC, or Star Wars, interconnectivity is the name of the game in Hollywood. While these are the most obvious examples of the phenomenon, they may not have been the first of its kind. Filmmakers have seemingly been toying with shared universes for years, though being far subtler with the process than studios are today. You may never look at one of your favorite films the same way again. Here are 10 movies you had no idea share the same universe.

Artist Shawn Lim has recreated Wolverine in berserker rage and his good friend Cyclops in the style of fantasy RPG characters. The designs of the characters are pretty cool, and it would be fun to see an entire series of fantasy style X-Men RPG characters. Wolverine is reimagined as a typical fantasy RPG berserker class, and Cyclops is reimagined as a fantasy RPG mage, suitable for long-range energy blast attacks.

A Disabled Boy Creates a Fantasy World to Escape His Reality in Short Film JAMES

I’ve got an incredible, must watch short film for you to watch today called "James." It centers on a young boy who has a disability that limits him. One top of that he has a distressed family life and he’s being bullied at school. To help him cope with this hard life that he’s been dealt, he creates a sci-fi and fantasy world in his mind to escape and also try to heal his fractured family and face his tormentors at school. Here’s the full story description:

James is the story of an 11-year-old by with a degenerative bone disease called, Legg-Perthes Disease. Like most degenerative bone diseases, Legg-Perthes is expensive to treat and especially when one of your parents has lost her job and the other has no health insurance.
It's also bad news if you want to blend in at school or potentially avoid bullying because you have to wear obtrusive leg braces as part of the treatment.
The disease does provide James with a lot of time alone to imagine and create a world for himself. A world he thinks can solve the problems of his family. A world where his braces become battle armor and his action figures talk back to him. And he fights aliens...and can fly into space.

The short was directed by Kyle McCauley back in 2012. It was completed over the course of 2+ years on mornings, nights, weekends, and maybe some "down time" at work. The end result is fantastically well made and honest story about dealing with the hardships of life, and it’s told in a really cool way. I hope you enjoy it.

Batmobile Infographic Breaks Down the Speed, Cost, and Specs of Movie Vehicles

I’ve got a cool infographic here for you to check out that offers some interesting details on all of the Batmobiles that have been used in the movies over the years. It tells us the speed of each one, what they are worth, and other specs and features that they have.

For example, did you know that the fastest Batmobile ever built was the one used in Batman and Robin? It has a top speed of 350 mph. The infographic comes to us from NetQuote, and they offered up the following details that came along with the infographic. I’ve also included other infographics focusing on other iconic vehicles that we’ve seen in the movies.

Contrary to popular belief, the circa-1966 original Batmobile was not the first of its kind, but it is undoubtedly the most important, according to Aaron Miller at Thrillist.com. “Hollywood legend George Barris was given so little time to make the car that he took a decade-old concept car, the Lincoln Futura, made what really amounted to just a few minor cosmetic changes, and made history,” he said.
But for many fans, it pales in comparison to the 1989 Burton Batmobile, the first truly futuristic design with bat wings on the back, a turbine engine on the nose, and relatively simple but potent gadgets. “It’s a car that is bold and yet mysterious, which is a quality that no other Batmobile embodies,” said Rudie Obias at MoviePilot.com, who placed this Batmobile at the top of his list.
As for the Batmobile of 1995, it is easily the worst Batmobile ever designed by human hands – or the devil’s hands, according to Tom Baker at WhatCulture.com. The clunker came complete with lights under the car and rims. Luckily, it was destroyed halfway through “Batman Forever.”
The Batmobile of 1997 is better than the previous monstrosity for only two reasons, Miller added. First, it was designed to pay homage to the Delahayes of the 1930s and, second, it was real. Other than that, the car is all style with very little substance. It’s completely forgettable.
“Batman Begins” in 2005 represents a turn for the better. It was the year the Tumbler was born. When Bruce Wayne sees it, he only has one question for Lucius Fox: “Does it come in black?”
It certainly did. The Tumbler upset some Batman purists, but for the most part, the military take on the Caped Crusader’s ride made a bold statement, and it was a complete game changer. Specifically, the 2008 version that appeared in “The Dark Knight” really blew minds. Christopher Nolan added the Batpod, a motorcycle that Batman uses as an escape pod during a famous chase scene with Joker.
The newest on-screen Batmobile, as seen in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” is a “balance between the sublime and the ridiculous, which we are certainly fans of,” said Tom Baker at WhatCulture.com. “Not quite the militarised tank of the Tumbler and not quite as stylised as Adam West’s ride, the new Batmobile is somewhere in between. It’s got influences from all the previous on-screen incarnations, successfully blending them into a unified Batmobile that’s definitely not something you’d see any conventional army using during combat, but it isn’t complete comic book fantasy.”

You can check out all of the infographics they created below. There are five images total.
