Mark Hamill, who is best known as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga, is launching a pop culture digital series on Comic-Con HQ called Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest. The actor will also serve as a producer on the series which is described as a documentary-style show featuring stories about passionate fans and their collections.

As you probably already know, Hamill is a big time collector of stuff like comic books, toys, lunch boxes, puppets, and artwork. He’s been collecting since the early 1970’s so he really passionate about this kind of thing. The actor said in a statement:

“I’ve been a collector all my life. This show is a natural outgrowth of that passion. Now I have an opportunity to collect other people’s collections! I can’t wait to see what’s out there and share it with the world.”

The idea for the series has been in development for about three years, and when talking about it Seth Laderman, general manager of Comic-Con HQ said:

“Passion is at the heart of all of our original series, with a goal to allow innovators like Mark the opportunity to create and bring their ideas to life.”

The series will start production later this month when Hamill is finished shooting Star Wars: Episode VIII. The series will premiere on the new Comic-Con HQ service this fall. You can watch a promo video for it below.

Comic-ConHQ.com is a venture between Comic-Con International and Lionsgate and is available for free. It will officially launch this summer on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon’s Streaming Partners Program.

Daniel Day-Lewis Is Reteaming with Paul Thomas Anderson for 1950s Set Film

Daniel Day-Lewis and director Paul Thomas Anderson are looking to collaborate on a new film project together. Back in 2007 they made the incredible film There Will Be Blood, and I'm so excited to hear that these two talented individuals will be coming together to create a new film.

There aren't many details on the plot, but Variety says that the movie is set in 1950s New York and will revolve around the world of fashion. It may not sound very interesting, but with these two talents involved with the project, it's hard to believe that it will turn out to be anything less than great.

The last film that Day-Lewis starred in was Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, and that was back in 2012. He won his third Academy Award for that film. I've been curious to see what his next project would be, and it looks like this could be it. He's currently in talks to join the project, but inside sources say that he's been loosely attached to it for "some time."

Anderson is still developing the script, and he's also meeting with young actresses who are of Eastern European descent to be cast in some of the supporting roles. I'm looking forward to learning more about this project and seeing what comes of it.

MIDNIGHT SPECIAL Star Jaeden Lieberher Cast as Bill in Stephen King’s IT

Yesterday it was announced that Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove) had officially been cast in the role of Pennywise the Clown in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s It. Now the film has gained another new cast member. Jaeden Lieberher will play Bill Denbrough, the leader of “The Losers Club” in the story. That same character was played by Jonathan Brandis in the original 1991 film.

Lieberher recently starred in the wonderful sci-fi film Midnight Special, and he did a fantastic job in that. It’s awesome to see him land another strong role in a movie. The kid seems like he's perfect for the part, and I’m sure he’ll be awesome.

It will be adapted as a two-part film. The story follows seven kids who come together to form The Losers Club. Along with battling their own personal problems with bullies, family life and such, they are faced with the challenge of battling a killer clown who is killing kids in their small town of Dairy, Maine. The first film will focus on that, and the second one will focus on these same characters as adults when they come back to face the monster again and destroy him once and for all.

Mama helmer Andres Muschietti is set to direct the films, and I really hope he has what it takes to turn this story into the best possible film adaptation. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema scheduled the first part to be released on September 18th, 2017.

James Gunn Teases GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Appearance at Comic-Con

Director James Gunn loves to connect with his fans. He regularly does live Facebook Q&A’s with them and in the most recent one, he talked a little bit more about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the possibility of a Nova Corps movie, and teased an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con.

Last year Marvel skipped out on the big event because they said they didn’t have anything to show. Well, there are no excuses this year! Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are ready to go and show off some footage if they want to. When asked if he was going to attend this year, Gunn teased:

"Am I going to San Diego Comic-Con?! That's a good question! You guys want me to go to San Diego Comic-Con? You'll have to see! I would like to go. That would be amazing, wouldn't it? I would like to come and see you all at San Diego Comic-Con and bring some friends along. That would be awful fun. That would be awful fun. I would really love to do that."

I’m sure he will, and it’s exciting to think that we’ll get our first look at the highly anticipated Guardians sequel this summer! Gunn went on to say the film is coming together well and also praised the actors:

"I don’t wanna tell you too much. I think the movie’s going great. I only have two weeks and two days left of shooting this film. I think the movie’s coming together really, really well. I think the cast has been fantastic. Every single actor that was in the first movie has gotten exponentially better. They all know their characters more deeply. Dave Bautista is absolutely killing it. Pom, who plays Mantis is killing it. Karen Gillan has had an amazing couple of weeks. She’s just been fantastic. So I think that there’s some really great stuff."

The at one point during the conversation, he was asked about the possibility of a Nova Corps movie and this was his reply:

"I think there is always a chance of a Nova movie. I don't think it's something I would do. But it's possible."

The Nova Corps aspect of the universe seems like it would be suited better as a Netflix series. That's something I'd personally like to eventually see. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to be released on May 5th, 2017.

heres-what-brie-larson-could-look-like-as-captain-marvel1

A couple days ago it was revealed that Brie Larson is in talks to play Captain Marvel, and a lot of fans seem to think she is a solid choice. I think she’d be great in the role! Now, thanks to Boss Logic, we have an idea of what the actress could look like as the character. I doubt Marvel will go with a costume like this, but it’s still pretty fun to see what one of many possibilities could be.

I’m excited for Captain Marvel, especially with someone like Larson involved. The studio is also in talks with a couple of talented directors to take on the project. Those directors are Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) and Niki Caro (Whale Rider, McFarland, USA)

Captain Marvel is set to be released on July 6th, 2018.

Unsettling Trailer for the South Korean Horror Film THE WAILING

crazy-trailer-for-the-south-korean-horror-film-the-wailing1

I always enjoy a good insane horror film, and it looks like this South Korean film The Wailing will give us something nightmarishly creepy and unsettling. The movie was directed by Na Hong-jin, and the story focuses on a mysterious evil supernatural force that invades a small village and terrorizes it. We have a trailer for you to watch today that teases the wicked madness that the film entails.

In this unbelievably tense supernatural thriller, a foreigner’s mysterious appearance in a quiet, rural village causes suspicion among the locals — suspicion which quickly turns to hysteria as the townspeople begin killing each other in brutal outbursts for seemingly no reason. As the investigating officer watches his daughter fall under the same savage spell, he agrees to consult a shaman for answers — unknowingly escalating the situation into something far more dangerous.

Over six years in the making, director Na Hong-jin’s meticulously crafted follow-up to the globally acclaimed THE YELLOW SEA and THE CHASER (his third to premiere at the Festival de Cannes) smashed box office records upon its debut in South Korea, where fans are already making return viewings to catch new clues and debate what’s sure to be the most talked-about ending of 2016.

The Wailing gets a limited theatrical release starting today, June 3rd. I've gotta find out where this film is playing because I want to see it! It stars Hwang Jung-Min, Chun Woo-Hee, Kwak Do-oni, and Jun Kunimura.

The Intensity of J.K. Simmons' WHIPLASH Insanity Gets a Musical Remix by Eclectic Method

Whiplash is one of those rare films that came completely out of nowhere and completely blew my mind. Who would have thought a movie set in the world of jazz could be so damn intense?! This is by far J.K. Simmons' greatest performance, and he deservedly won an Oscar for it. He played one of the most insane and interesting characters ever put on film.

Eclectic Method’s Johnny Wilson and 16-year-old DJ/producer Genranon recently teamed up to create a musical remix using the intense and insulting dialogue of Simmons' character. They set it to an electronic jazzy beat, and this is the note that came along with the video:

In true respect to jazz this is one of those rare electronic tunes that goes through multiple keys in a 2-5-1 chord progression in 5/8 time signature...... Only joking it's a 4 to the floor smasher totally disrespectful to jazz as a whole but totally in keeping with the yelling rage of band leader Terence Fletcher. The modern classic that won 3 Oscars and was nominated for 5 has been cutup, rejiggled and made into a dance floor DJ friendly remix by Genranon and Eclectic Method.

You may like what they created, you may not. But if you want to listen to it, here ya go! Also, if you haven't seen Whiplash yet... what are you waiting for?!

The Film Rights to NAMOR THE SUB-MARINER Are Back With Marvel

the-film-rights-to-namor-the-sub-mariner-are-back-with-marvel

Back in 2014, a rumor surfaced that Legendary Pictures was developing a feature film based on Marvel's Namor the Sub-Mariner. Universal Pictures apparently owned the rights to it. Later on, Kevin Feige said that things were a bit more complicated than that.

Well, it sounds like the complications are no longer an issue because Marvel CCO Joe Quesada has indicated that the rights to the King of Atlantis are back with Marvel. During an appearance on Kevin Smith's Fat Man on Batman podcast, Quesada was asked if Namor is part of the MCU and if they had the film rights, and this was his reply:

"I can't speak for studios...As far as I know, yeah we do. It’s not at Fox, it’s not at Sony...Yeah."

As CCO, Quesada is a pretty well-informed guy at Marvel, and this is something I believe he would have knowledge of. When asked if Namor would end up being a part of the MCU, he said:

"I cannot confirm or deny, sir."

There's always the chance that it could happen. A couple years ago Feige was asked if Marvel would make a Namor movie. He said yes and then explained the complications of the film rights:

"Yes, but it’s slightly more complicated than that. Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy. There are older contracts that still involve other parties that means we need to work things out before we move forward on it. As opposed to an Iron Man or any of the Avengers or any of the other Marvel characters where we could just put them in."

So it seems like may they have actually worked those things out. If they have, according to Feige, one day we will Namor introduced in the MCU. Unless he changed his mind after they got the rights back.

Enlightening Video Essay Explores the Genius of Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN 2

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is still my favorite Spider-Man movie ever made, and it's even one of my favorite superhero films in general. Everyone is hyped about what Marvel is doing right now and what they will be doing in the future, especially with their new version of Spider-Man. But let's not forget that Raimi made an incredible Spider-Man film! I'm sure it's been awhile since a lot of you have seen it, but maybe it's time to revisit it and be reminded of how amazing it was.

Films&Stuff released a fantastic video essay that explores Spider-Man 2 and explains why they feel it is Marvel at their best. They explain in the video description:

While we indulge ourselves with the recent superhero summer blockbusters, I think it would be good to explore the best film of the genre - Spider-Man 2. Here I explore how Sam Raimi blends comedy, action and drama into a comic book masterpiece.

Everything they point out is spot on, and even though I already had a high appreciation for this movie, this video essay made me appreciate it even more. You've gotta take the time to watch this! Trust me, it's worth it.

Action-Packed New Sizzle Reel for VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER

I’ve already seen the first episode of Voltron: Legendary Defender, and I absolutely loved it! I will have a full review for it later, but this is a series that you don’t want to miss, especially if you're a fan of the original.

The series was produced at DreamWorks animation by Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery, who both previously worked on The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender. These guys are huge fans of the original cartoon, and they did a stellar job bringing Voltron back as an animated series.

We’ve got a new promo spot video for you to watch for it today that offers up a lot of cool new action-packed new footage. It should definitely get fans excited to see more.

Five unsuspecting teenagers, transported from Earth into the middle of a sprawling intergalactic war, become pilots for five robotic lions in the battle to protect the universe from evil. Only through the true power of teamwork can they unite to form the mighty warrior known as Voltron.
Witness the rebirth of the legend with this ambitious reimagining of the fan-favorite science-fiction saga, promising galaxies worth of action, comedy, and adventure, as good battles evil in an intergalactic war ten thousand years in the making.

The series is set to launch with an hour-long origin story called “The Rise of Voltron,” and that will be followed by 10 episodes. The series is set to premiere on June 10th.

4 Possible Titles for Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE Films Revealed

$

There are four possible titles that have been revealed for Zack Snyder's Justice League films, and four more release dates for other DC films have been added to WB's schedule.

The Justice League movies are currently known only as Part One and Part Two, but some working titles have found their way online thanks to Heroic Hollywood. The site does warn that these are just rumors, so until anything is officially announced, treat them as such. Here are the four titles that they came across:

  • Justice League: United
  • Justice League: Angels and Demons
  • Justice League: Gods Among Us
  • Justice League: Gods Among Men

Subtitles are a big thing with superhero films these days. You just can't have Justice League Part 1 and Part 2. The title has gotta have something more to grab people's attention. I'm really not a big fan of any of these titles, though.

Justice League: United is too close to X-Men: United, Justice League: Angels and Demons reminds me of Tom Hank's film Angels and Demons, and the other two titles just remind us that these characters are gods among men. Except for Batman, unless they turn him into a god.

As for the new release dates, they say more DC films will be released on October 2nd, 2020, April 16th, 2021, July 2nd, 2021, and November 5th, 2021.  All of these are subject to change. As of right now we have Wonder Woman coming on June 2nd, 2017, Justice League Part 1 on November 27th, 2017, The Flash on March 23rd, 2018, Aquaman on July 27th, 2018, The Batman on October 5th, 2018, Shazam on April 5th, 2019, Justice League Part 2 on June 14th, 2019, Untitled Film on November 1st, 2019, Cyborg on April 3rd, 2020, and Green Lantern Corps on July 24th, 2020. There are also Harley Quinn and Booster Gold films that could go into any of the four new release dates.

Not even fictional Star Wars characters can escape the election madness in the U.S. Did you know Princess Leia is a cold blooded killer?! I've got an amusing political ad from The Star Wars Show that attacks Princess Leia and brings to light all of the dark things in her life that she's been hiding.

There’s a lot you don’t know about Princess Leia. A lot she doesn’t want you to know. Find out more in this damaging Star Wars: Bloodline attack ad, first seen on The Star Wars Show.

The ad goes off on how Leia isn't really a Princess, how she went on to marry a known criminal, and more.

Producer Charles Roven Talks Eyes of The Adversary, The SUICIDE SQUAD's Mysterious Foes

$

Warner Bros. and DC's Suicide Squad comes out in just over two months, but remarkably, we still don't know much about who exactly our team of supervillains is going up against. Check out the official synopsis:

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Even the trailers haven't revealed too much of that "enigmatic, insuperable entity," so when producer Charles Roven spoke with Total Film (via CS) and revealed the name of the group of bad guys as Eyes of The Adversary, we perked up:

“Let’s just say, when they’re called in to do this mission by Amanda, these are one of the things they encounter,” Roven said. “They don’t know how they got here, but they’re weird and dangerous and yet they’re wearing military uniforms.”

Turns out the "eye" part is literal. I never paid close enough attention before, but looking through the trailers, it appears these creatures (or whatever they are) are covered in eyes. Check out a couple of screenshots:

SS eye thing 2.png
SS eye thing.jpg

Who is The Adversary, I wonder? Is it Enchantress, who was rumored to be the main villain months ago? Or, what seems more likely to me, does it somehow tie in with the larger plan of the DC Extended Universe? (I wouldn't be at all surprised if The Adversary is Darkseid, for example.) I'd love to hear your theories in the comments.

In that same interview, director David Ayer talked about keeping the story grounded:

“You have to be true to the source material, but at the same time, I want to give the characters a real psychology and make them feel of our world. For me the fun is creating the illusion that you can walk down the street and run into Harley Quinn, or see the Joker driving along.”

And naturally, he spoke a bit about Jared Leto's Joker, who seems to be getting all of the attention when it comes to this movie:

“You’re looking at one of the best-known villains in western literature. He has to be very respectful and elegantly crafted, because you’re following in the footsteps of giants. He’s very loyal to the canon, but with some modern twists… With Jared, it’s interesting because how do you come at that character? It’s like treading on hallowed ground. It requires a strange combination of both respect and fearlessness. I don’t want to reveal too much about the magic trick…”

Suicide Squad fires into theaters on August 5, 2016.

Robots Perform "Running Man Challenge"

The latest internet fad is coming to a close, but that because there aren't too many ways you can top the "Running Man Challenge." For those who don't know, the challenge is based off of the Ghost Town DJ's song "My Boo" and started when someone noticed how ridiculous the dance moves in the music video are...

This sparked many parodies which you can find all over Youtube. One of my favorites is this particularly geeky one...

Now my favorite "Running Man" video has been topped by the robotics team at UCLA. They teamed up with Wired to make a "robot" version, and it's just fantastic. Enjoy!

Bill Hader Heads To HBO For a Hitman TV Series Called BARRY

Here's some cool news for fans of Bill Hader (which should include everyone who's ever seen him in anything): Deadline reports that Hader is getting his own TV show on HBO. It's a hitman comedy called Barry, and the former SNL actor and hilarious comedian stars and made his directorial debut with the pilot. He co-wrote the show with Silicon Valley executive producer Alec Berg, and HBO execs liked the pilot so much that they picked it up to series.

Barry centers on an ex-Marine (Hader) who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles to kill someone and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the LA theater scene.
The series, which co-stars Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau, an inspiring acting teacher; Stephen Root as Fuches, a man who arranges Barry’s hits; Sarah Goldberg as Sally, an aspiring actress who is Barry’s entree into LA’s theater scene; Anthony Carrigan as Noho Hank, a Chechen gangster; and Glenn Fleshler as Goran Pazar, a Chechen gangster, will shoot in Los Angeles in 2017.

In addition to his recent film appearances in Trainwreck, Inside Out, The Angry Birds Movie, Popstar, and Finding Dory, Hader has done a ton of TV work since leaving Saturday Night Live. This seems to be something of a passion project for him, so I'm excited to see how it turns out. Sounds promising!

Creator of Classic Viral Video Animation vs. Animator Shares Story 10 Years Later

I cannot believe it's been 10 years since this video was first posted online! I remember seeing this on Newgrounds and ebaumsworld back in the day, and while I thought it was cool, I never followed its creator much. Since then, Alan Becker has had a huge amount of success in animation. Today, on the 10th anniversary of the video's release, Alan shares the story of his infamous animation.

You'd be surprised how crazy this guy's story is! He's been all around the web and dealt with some of the larger sites of the early 2000s, which wasn't always a good thing. This video took me on a huge nostalgia trip and even convinced me to travel back to YTMND after several years (it's changed), so check it out if you're down to relive 10 years back for a considerable amount of time!
