Freaky-Ass Featurette for THE CONJURING 2 Focuses on True Story

0
0

Universal Pictures has released a crazy creepy featurette for James Wan's upcoming horror film The Conjuring 2. This film tells the true story of a family who was terrorized by a poltergeist, which became known as The Enfield Poltergeist. This featurette is called "Strange Happenings in Enfield," and it focuses on the true story aspect of the film. It includes interviews with the victims who were actually involved with this nightmarish event, including Janet Hodgson, the girl who was actually possessed, and of course, legendary paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren.

One of the creepiest and most unsettling parts of the featurette was listening to an actual recording of the possessed 11-year-old girl. It's pretty damn haunting. It definitely adds some credence to the movie. Of course, the movie is going to embellish the story, but I would love to see a documentary that tells all the gritty details of this paranormal event.

The Conjuring 2 brings to the screen another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

The Conjuring 2 arrives in theaters on June 10th.

New Footage of Krang in TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES TV Spots

Three new TV spots have been released for director Dave Green’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Two of them include new footage of the brain-like alien villain Krang as well as new footage of several of the other characters. It seems like a lot of fans are excited to see Krang make an appearance in this sequel. From what I’ve seen of the film, it looks like producer Michael Bay and the rest of the creative team wanted to heavily represent the cartoon series that many of us grew up with. That’s what fans were hoping to see in the first film. It looks like the producers heard their complaints and are trying to make up for it in the sequel. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it all turns out.

The Ninja Turtles come into conflict with T.C.R.I. scientist Dr. Baxter Stockman with the association of the Foot Clan and the return of the Shredder, who has hired Stockman to create mutants of their own in the form of Bebop and Rocksteady and an unknown invasion above New York City. To prevent the end of the world, the turtles and their human friends April O'Neil and Vern Fenwick comes to the aid with vigilante Casey Jones.

Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, and Noel Fisher are reprising their roles as Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo. Johnny Knoxville is providing the voice of Leonardo again. The movie also sees the return of Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, and William Fichtner as Eric Sacks. Some of the newcomers include Tyler Perry as scientist Baxter Stockman, WWE Star Sheamus as Rocksteady, Gary Anthony Williams as Bebop, Brittany Ishibashi as Karai, Stephen Amell as Casey Jones, and Brian Tee as Shredder.

The movie comes out on June 3rd.

Helen Mirren Set to Star in the Supernatural Winchester Mansion Horror Thriller

0
0

Helen Mirren is set to star in the supernatural horror thriller Winchester. The film is set at the famous haunted Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA, and Mirren will play Sarah Winchester, the multimillionaire heiress to the Winchester Arms fortune.

After Winchester’s husband and child suddenly died, Sarah was convinced that she had been cursed by the gun that her husband had invented and that the ghosts of the people killed by the Winchester guns haunted her. To appease the spirits, a medium sent Sarah to San Jose in 1884, and she began an insane 38 year, 24/7 construction project to build a 24,000-square foot, 160-room Gothic mansion. The mansion has become a popular tourist attraction as it is known for its many staircases and corridors leading nowhere.

The movie is being written and directed by Daybreakers helmers Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig. They will start shooting the film next year on location at the actual Winchester Mansion where all of this insanity went down.

Mirren is a hell of a great actress, and it’s awesome that they were able to get her to sign on for the lead role. That alone tells us that this project is shaping up to be a strong film. I’ve been fascinated by the history of this house since I first heard about and have even gone to it a couple of times to take the tour. It’s always a blast and I can’t wait to see how this movie turns out.

Simon Kinberg Offers Update on GAMBIT and How DEADPOOL Helped it Along

0
0

Fox’s Gambit film project hasn’t had a smooth road since it was first announced. At one point Channing Tatum was looking to drop out of the project, then director Rupert Wyatt bailed on the project and was quickly replaced by Doug Liman, and then recently the film was pulled from Fox’s release schedule. The movie is still moving forward, though!

Producer Simon Kinberg recently offered an update on the film. In that update, he explained why the film was delayed and how Deadpool helped with finding the right tone. When talking about the delay of the film, he said that they are still looking to get the script right:

"We've gotta get the script right. We just didn't get the script to the place that we all felt like that movie deserved, so we're still working on the script -- we're very close, actually, to being done with the script."

He also talked about finding the right tone for Gambit, and how Tim Miller's Deadpool has helped him in doing that:

"I think one of the things that I've learned on all of these movies -- and maybe the lesson was best learned for me on 'Deadpool' -- is the most important thing is getting the tone and the voice right. That the storytelling, the actual plots, are sort of interchangeable and disposable, ultimately. If I ask you what your favorite movies are, you're not going to tell me the plot, you're going to tell me you love this character, and so what we've really tried to do with 'Gambit' is make sure we get the voice of that character right, and the tone of the comics 100 percent on the page."

Let’s be honest, though, a movie needs a decent plot. The plot of the film is what drives the character! The plot plays a huge role in why we love these characters! It’s great that they are trying to get the character right, but hopefully they come up with a great story for him as well. Kingbird also said:

"There was a moment where we were going to shoot the movie at the beginning of this year, and then we felt it just wasn't ready. So, knowing -- hoping -- that 'Gambit' is, like 'Deadpool' was, the start of a new franchise within the X-Men universe, we want to make sure to get it right."

Fox and the producers are still keen on making this movie. It’s just taking a lot longer than expected. Hopefully, they can work everything out and make a great Gambit flick.

A New Season of THE X-FILES Is Coming Together at Fox

0
0

It's looking like Fox and Chris Carter are going to get another season of The X-Files! I absolutely loved the installment of the series that aired earlier this year, and I, along with many other fans, were hoping that that we would see the supernatural adventures of Agent Mulder and Agent Scully continue.

During a recent press call, Fox TV Group chairmans Dana Walden and Gary Newman were asked about their plans for another installment of The X-Files, and Walden offered a very optimistic reply:

“We have had conversations with (creator) Chris Carter and (stars) David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show.”

All of the people involved with the series are doing different projects at the moment, and they are scattered all over the world, but Walden is hopeful they will have something to announce next year. She explains, “Hopefully this season we will be able to get it done and that the same time next year (May), we will have something to announce.”

Newman went on to talk about the discussions that are taking place with Carter, Duchovny, and Anderson, and how they have included talks about “what kind of episodic order makes sense. Some of that is driven by schedules.” He went on to reiterate:

“Conversations are ongoing. I can tell you that all of them would like to do more of these, and certainly the network and studio want to do more.”

The next X-Files event season is tentatively being planned for the 2017-18 season. I couldn't be more excited to hear that the everyone is looking to move forward with more X-Files greatness!

John Boyega Says STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII Is Darker and Bigger Than THE FORCE AWAKENS

0
0

It’s been fun reading about all the story rumors about Star Wars: Episode VIII. I’m curious to see what ends up being true and what ends up being false, but there sure has been some crazy talk, which you can catch up on here. One thing we know for sure is that this next film in the new trilogy is going to be different from J.J. AbramsThe Force Awakens. We’ve heard several people involved with the film talk about Rian Johnson’s unique take on the story.

While talking about the next chapter in the Star Wars saga with Variety, John Boyega offered a few bits of information on the tone of the film. He said that it will be bigger and darker than the last movie. When asked about transitioning from working with Abrams to Johnson, the actor said:

“It’s very easy. Rian Johnson is great. It’s a different take, darker, bigger. Someone will say: ‘How do you get bigger than Force Awakens?’ But it’s crazy.”

Boyega was asked about the romance between Finn and Rey, which was kind of a silly question because there was no romance between the two in The Force Awakens. He said:

“They’re just friends. Finn is a storm trooper, so he doesn’t really know what’s going on. So the romance thing is something that’s going to be interesting in the next installment. It’s not going to go the way you think it’s going to go.”

The last question that the actor was asked was is if Finn gets darker, to which Boyega replied:

“My skin color does because of the heat on the job! That’s me dodging your question because Disney has spies everywhere. If I answer this, I get killed, and I’m not in episode nine.”

I loved the characters that Abrams and Lucasfilm set up for this next installment of the Star Wars saga, and I can’t wait to see where exactly the story takes them. I don’t think Finn will give in to the Dark Side and go back to the Empire, because it doesn’t seem like it’s in his nature. But you never know!

You recognize the man above, you just don't know it. For years, Kane Hodder has been the man behind the mask of Friday the 13th's masked killer Jason Voorhees and an overall legend in the horror genre. The man looks damn good for 61 as well! That said, not every story has a happy ending and Kane took the time to make a special announcement to all his fans. Watch and continue reading below:

He had me going there for a second! Seriously, I thought he was on the verge of tears! Glad to see he's still in the game, I thought I was going to have to deliver the news to thousands of broken hearts! I thought about not posting this, but the way I was feeling watching the video made me realize the impact this guy has had on the genre and the legacy he will leave when he does eventually move on. Hopefully that's not anytime soon!

TRAINSPOTTING 2 Begins Filming, Gets Teaser Trailer

0
0

Trainspotting was a wonderful film with great acting and an incredible story. Now that I've said that I completely regret watching every second of it! Man, that's a dark film! If you've seen it before you know why, and if you haven't, I still suggest you watch it. You won't feel like doing much the rest of the day, but you'll enjoy it.

All that aside, I'm still likely going to be watching Trainspotting 2. For those not in the loop, director Danny Boyle has regrouped the original cast (with Ewan McGregor in the lead) and is creating a sequel that will follow the events of the first film 20 years later. They began filming today, and to mark the occasion they released a teaser trailer and gave us the release date! I'm going to be in theaters watching on January 27, 2017, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be happy about it!

We also have some set photos and footage below the trailer, so check those out as well!

GAME OF THRONES: Best Moments From Season 6, Ep. 4 "Book of The Stranger"

0
0

Warning: spoilers ahead for season 6, episode 4 of Game of Thrones, entitled "Book of the Stranger." If you haven't seen the episode yet, turn back now.

This season, I'm going to try to write up some quick thoughts about each episode the day after it airs. I won't get too deep into full-on recaps (you can find those all over the internet, and you've probably already read a few today if you're into that sort of thing) and will instead focus on what I consider to be each episode's best moments. This can be as many or as few as I want, and will likely vary every episode — today, there are only two. I'll also toss in some additional observations that don't fit into the "best moments" category, which you can find at the bottom of the post. For the best moments of the latest episode, click here. Onward!

2. Jon and Sansa's Reunion

It's been so long since the Stark children caught any sort of break, and it was great to see Sansa reunite with Jon in Castle Black. I was afraid they were going to do another one of those "just missed 'em" moments that have happened so many times already, so I was glad to see the two of them back together again (even if they never got along very well back in season one). Kit Harington has said in interviews that Jon comes back from the dead a changed man, but I think the show has done a pretty poor job conveying any sense of real change in the character. He basically feels like the same Jon that we knew before his death, only slightly more exhausted (it's hard to blame him for that one). I'd like to see another scene of Jon actively grappling with what it means to be resurrected in order for that sense of change to come through, but I'm not sure the show is going to make time for that.

1. Dany's Khal BBQ

The buddy procedural of Daario and Jorah continued as they tracked Dany to Vaes Dothrak, but it was the Mother of Dragons herself who took home the episode's best moment by burning the khals alive in the temple of the Dosh Khaleen and emerging unscathed from the flames. I was expecting her to use Drogon and the other dragons to convince the Dothraki to become her army, but it turns out she didn't even need them. It seems like things are finally in motion for her to head to Westeros, and I wouldn't be surprised if the season ended with her making landfall on the continent (to fry that pesky rebellion in Dorne, perhaps?).

Additional Observations

I didn't love this episode as I much as I did last week's, but the looks Tormund was throwing Brienne from across the dinner table and her reaction to them were absolutely priceless.

I thought it was a bit strange that Sansa had to work that hard to talk Jon into rescuing Rickon and taking back Winterfell. Jon just reunited with his half-sister, so I figured he'd jump at the chance to reunite with any remaining member of his family — especially considering his hostile feelings toward his surrogate family (the Night's Watch). But he didn't seem very spurred on by Ramsay's threatening letter. Sansa, on the other hand, finally feels like she has some real purpose again and the gumption to see her goals through to the end. She's come a long way from the whiny brat of season one. It's great to see her like this after the horrors she's endured.

I'm glad that Littlefinger is back, mainly because I really enjoy trying to imitate Aidan Gillen's quasi-ridiculous accent. Playing Robin Arryn like a fiddle, he united the Knights of the Vale to help Sansa, and next week's reunion between those two characters has the potential of being very interesting. Did he know about Ramsay's behavior when he sent her there? We'll find out soon. Also: his last line here, "The time has come to join the fray" made me wonder if that was a sly bit of foreshadowing by showrunners Benioff and Weiss (who wrote this episode). Will Littlefinger align himself — or appear to align himself — with the Freys (the people who killed Catelyn and Robb at the Red Wedding), or was that nothing more than a cute play on words?

Robin Arryn = a little lankier nowadays, but still extremely off-putting.

There are two plotlines that have been treading water for a long time: Tyrion, Varys, and the rest of what's happening in Meereen, and the constant prattling (to use a Cersei term) of the High Sparrow. Both moved forward slightly in this episode, as Tyrion used his political savvy and allowed the masters of Slaver's Bay seven years to end the practice, while the High Sparrow gave another long and boring speech about atoning for sins. WE GET IT, DUDE. I'm so sick of scenes of Jonathan Pryce sitting in that room and monologuing at people. It just sucks all of the energy and momentum out of an episode. At least we saw some movement from the Lannisters, seemingly teaming up with the Tyrells with the intention of finally taking power back in King's Landing. But like the politics of Meereen, we all know that the squabbling of King's Landing is going to be ultimately meaningless in the grand scheme of the White Walkers vs. Dragons ending that the story seems to be leading toward.

I figured Osha would be a goner by the end of the season, but I didn't guess her death was coming so soon. Did anyone think she'd be the one to bring Ramsay down after all he's done? The show did a valiant job of making us think that was a possibility, but ultimately she got a knife in the neck for her troubles. Here's a list of scenes I never need to see again on this show: Ramsay killing someone in a way that's supposed to be shocking (I've been bored with him as a villain for a long time now), the High Sparrow speaking anything other than his dying words, and Tommen being unsure of what to do. Dany's fire scene mostly redeemed this episode for me in the end, but here's hoping next week's episode picks up the pace a little bit more.

PREACHER Gets New Trailer and an Aftershow Announcement

0
0

Chris Hardwick took to Instagram to drop two big Preacher-related tidbits. The first is a new trailer running through the characters in the series:

Here's a brand new #Preacher trailer! This show is going to make you happy in every way whether you read the comics or not. It's a violent, action Western w/ GREAT characters and a Coen brothers-esque vibe. Preacher premieres next Sunday May 22nd at 10p in between the @feartwd & @amctalkingdead mid-season finale and then we're doing a special Talking Preacher on May 29th w/ @sethrogen Evan Goldberg, Sam Catlin and Dominic Cooper (who plays Jesse/Preacher). ENJOY!!!

A video posted by Chris Hardwick (@hardwick) on

The second announcement, which you can read about in his video description, is that he is doing yet another recap show with AMC. Talking Preacher will, as you can imagine, feature interviews and recaps of what you just saw in the episode. I know the ratings for these things are high, but for me personally, I don't see the appeal. If they were dropping major information, sure, but it's usually just fluff. I'll probably watch the first episode of Talking Preacher, however, as it will likely have a high Seth Rogen involved, and you can never pass that up.

Kevin Smith is Trying to Reboot THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI as a TV Show

0
0

I alienated friends because of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension. It's a super weird B-movie from the mid-80s in which the title character — a neurosurgeon, physicist, test pilot, and rock 'n roll star — leads his friends, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, on a mission to stop alien invaders. Peter Weller (Robocop himself) stars alongside Jeff Goldblum in a cowboy outfit and John Lithgow playing a villain. Here, just watch the trailer.

As you can see, that's definitely not a movie for everybody, so when I invited a group of my friends in high school to watch it, I should have suspected that a few would give me weird looks after it was over and hardly speak to me again after that. To be fair, I had no idea just how insane the movie was; it was our first time watching it, and while I embraced the craziness, I can see how some would find it to be a little too much to handle.

The end credits for the movie promised a sequel called Buckaroo Banzai Against The World Crime League, but unfortunately that movie was never made. It may never see the inside of a darkened theater, but if writer/director Kevin Smith has anything to say about it, fans will see that story eventually come to life on the small screen instead.

On a recent episode of his Hollywood Babble-On podcast (via Uproxx), Smith revealed that the overwhelmingly positive reaction to his episode of The Flash (which aired this past week) opened some "weird doors" for him and has allowed him to set up three new projects, one of which is a TV reboot of Buckaroo Banzai for MGM. Smith cites the original film as a big inspiration that's "largely responsible for the weird shit that I make." He explained how his version of the project came about:

"MGM said, 'Hey, we heard you like Buckaroo Banzai...we took Fargo and turned it into a TV show and it's won awards, and we have another property we want to do that with, and we're wondering if [you're] interested.' So I went in and met with those cats, and we talked about 'What would you do to turn it into a series?' That's what we want to turn it into. I was like, 'Oh my Lord, well I've loved this movie for forever. If you're going to do that, basically you just do the entire movie for season one, and then season two you finally do the sequel we've all dreamed about, Buckaroo Banzai vs. The World Crime League...in the next month, we take it out and try to find a home for it."

Would you watch a Buckaroo Banzai TV series? Smith sounds like he might actually be a good fit for this franchise. He has an interesting idea for roles the original cast members could play in the TV show, and you can hear all that and more starting at the 11:30 mark below:

Shia LaBeouf To Play Tennis Legend John McEnroe in BORG/MCENROE

0
0

File this one under one of the better castings I've seen this year! Flavorwire reports that Shia LaBeouf will be playing the part of tennis legend and hot head John McEnroe in the sports film Borg/McEnroe. The film will feature the on-court rivalry between McEnroe and Björn Borg, who faced off 14 times in the '70s and '80s. The film will be directed by Janus Metz.

Here's why Shia LaBeouf will rock this role:

Hell, LaBeouf even sounds like McEnroe in his younger years! I can't wait to see this film!

IRON MAN 3 Was Supposed To Have a Female Villain, and Here's The Not-So-Shocking Reason It Didn't

0
0

It seems like Iron Man 3 has become a worse movie in the collective eyes of fandom in the years since it debuted, but I still love it and think it's one of Marvel Studios' strongest films. I know a lot of people got all riled up about the Mandarin and Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery, but I'm still of the opinion that the fan outcry about that was solely because the fanboys didn't like the experience of being tricked. (Did anyone really want to see an outdated, racist caricature of a villain face off against Iron Man? Really?) Now some information has come to light about the film's other villain: Killian, who was played by Guy Pearce, was originally going to be a woman, but the filmmakers received a note from on high about how that decision was unacceptable and had to be changed to sell more toys. Writer/director Shane Black explained it to Uproxx in a new interview:

All I’ll say is this, on the record: There was an early draft of Iron Man 3 where we had an inkling of a problem. Which is that we had a female character who was the villain in the draft. We had finished the script and we were given a no-holds-barred memo saying that cannot stand and we’ve changed our minds because, after consulting, we’ve decided that toy won’t sell as well if it’s a female.
What?
So, we had to change the entire script because of toy making. Now, that’s not Feige. That’s Marvel corporate, but now you don’t have that problem anymore.
Ike Perlmutter is gone.
Yeah, Ike’s gone. But New York called and said, “That’s money out of our bank.” In the earlier draft, the woman was essentially Killian – and they didn’t want a female Killian, they wanted a male Killian. I liked the idea, like Remington Steele, you think it’s the man but at the end, the woman has been running the whole show. They just said, “no way.”

I like the Remington Steele comparison. That would have been great.

I remember Remington Steele probably better than it is. But just so you know, too, I’m a Kevin Feige fan. If you ever say anything about decisions made at Marvel, I hope you’ll qualify it by saying that Kevin Feige is the guy who gets it right. And I don’t know if it was Ike, I don’t know who it was. They never told me who made the decision, we just got that memo one day and it was about toy sales. That’s all I know.

Wow. We've heard stories about Marvel Studios kowtowing to overseas interests in order to make more money internationally (Doctor Strange is the latest source of these talks), and here's another example of how they let the numbers influence their creative decision-making. This sounds like another bone-headed move that very much aligns with the personality and track record of Ike Perlmutter, the notoriously cheap head of Marvel who, according to some reports, is the reason why there has been a massive dearth of female superhero toys for young girls. Remember the whole Black Widow thing that got so bad, even Mark Ruffalo complained about it? That was reportedly Perlmutter's doing.

Luckily, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige doesn't report to him anymore and essentially has creative control over the film division now, which has resulted in something of a Golden Age within the organization. (Read this great piece at BMD for more.) It should be crazy to think a character would have to be completely rewritten in order to sell more toys (which, by the way, assumes that girls wouldn't buy toys of a female villain, which is kind of a dick assumption to make in and of itself — give them the chance to buy it before you shut the door on them completely), but sadly, stories like these are all too frequent in modern Hollywood.

Toby Jones Playing The Villain in Season 4 of SHERLOCK

0
0

The Sherlock Christmas special, The Abominable Bride, seemed to draw mixed reactions from a lot of fans, but that doesn't mean we're any less excited to see Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return to the roles of Sherlock and Watson in the upcoming fourth season (or "series," as the Brits call them) of the hit BBC show. They've been filming for a little while already, and now the network has confirmed that Captain America actor Toby Jones will play a villain in the second episode.

Toby Jones says: “I'm excited and intrigued by the character I shall be playing in Sherlock..."
Co-creator, writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, says: "Delighted to have Toby Jones on board, bringing to life one of Doyle’s finest villains."
Co-creator, writer and executive producer Mark Gatiss adds: "We're thrilled to welcome one of our finest actors to the Sherlock family. I know Toby will embrace the part with true relish!"
Sue Vertue, Executive Producer for Hartswood Films, says: "Great to have [director] Nick Hurran back after his fabulous work in series three [he directed "His Last Vow"], and I've been wanting to work with Toby for ages, so this is a real treat."

So Jones will play one of Doyle's finest villains, but who could that be? The whole Moriarty thing is...complicated at this stage in the story, and Sherlock recently "took care" of season 3's villain (Magnusson). I don't know Doyle's books, so I'm at a loss as to who the new villain could be — unless there's some sort of insane reveal that Jones was actually Moriarty the whole time and Andrew Scott was a bizarre surrogate. I wouldn't put anything past this show. What do you think?

I'll leave you with the synopsis for the fourth season below:

Promising laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases, it was announced last month that series four will begin - with the nation’s favourite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil - as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge - becoming parents for the first time.

There's a Petition to Save AGENT CARTER and Bring The Series to Netflix

0
0

Last week, fans of Agent Carter were met with the devastating news that ABC had cancelled the highly-regarded Marvel series. Agent Carter was so much of a better show than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but due to low ratings, ABC felt the need to cancel it.

Now it's time for the fans of the series to step up and try to save Agent Carter. A petition has been going around that is attempting to convince Netflix that they should give Agent Carter a home. It's time for the fans to unite and show their support!

As of right now there are 57,931 fans who have signed the petition and they are looking to reach 75,000. There's still a ways to go to reach their goal, but it can be done. All you have to do is head over to Change.org to sign!

I have no idea if this will help, but if anyone is going to be able to resurrect the Agent Carter series, it's Netflix, which already has a great working relationship with Marvel. They've saved other shows, why not take a chance on Agent Carter?

Margot Robbie and Warner Bros. Are Developing a Harley Quinn Spinoff Movie

0
0

The DC Extended Universe needs a big win, and they may have it with this summer's villain team-up movie Suicide Squad. As all of you know, Margot Robbie is set to bring the character of Harley Quinn to life for the first time in live-action in that movie, and fans are super excited about seeing her portrayal of the Joker's leading lady. And while a Suicide Squad sequel is already in the works, it looks like Robbie has no intention of walking away from that role any time soon.

THR brings word that the actress is attached to produce and star in a spinoff movie that won't be a Harley Quinn solo film, but instead will center on a handful of DC's female heroes and villains. Word is that Robbie had such a strong reaction to the character that she dove into the comic books to learn everything she could and fell in love with DC's female characters. She brought a female writer (identity currently unknown) on board to write a script for a spinoff, and when they took it to WB, the studio "snapped it up."

As for what the movie will actually be about, we're not sure, but THR has heard of a few characters that may pop up:

Details are being closely guarded but names such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey have surfaced, although in what capacity, it’s not clear.

If the fan reaction to Suicide Squad is as strong as we all think it's going to be (people LOVE those trailers), a Harley-centric female-heavy spinoff seems like a best-case scenario for the studio. We don't know enough about the script at this point to speculate about it, but let's assume that the story is great: that will mean that the studio that's bringing Wonder Woman to the big screen for the first time will also have another movie that appeals to all genders but is geared specifically toward fangirls. That's something even Marvel Studios hasn't been able to do yet, and depending on if/when this movie makes it through pre-production and starts filming, it even has a chance to beat Marvel's Captain Marvel movie into theaters. That's exactly the kind of win DC needs, and here's hoping Robbie and her writer can craft a story that lives up to those iconic comic characters.
