Even The Guy Who Played Greedo Says Han Shot First

$

0

As if anyone needed further convincing that Han Solo shot first in the theatrical cut of 1977's Star Wars, the man who played Greedo has come forward to say that's exactly how it went down on both the set of the film and in the original script. Actor Paul Blake told the New York Daily News (via Uproxx):

"...it said it all in the original script, we played in the scene in English and at the end of the scene, it reads, 'Han shoots the alien.' It's all it says and that's what happened. It was very painful."

Like the rest of fandom, Blake wants to see the original version reinstated to the movie, but he has slightly more selfish reasoning: the altered version makes Greedo look like an embarrassingly terrible bounty hunter:

"He was a bit inept wasn't he? He's a worse shot than a Stormtrooper. I don't think Jabba had him under a pension plan let's put it that way. It would be lovely to see them go back to the original version, I much preferred it, I must say. And it does give it Greedo a little more glory if he's just blown away."

Despite George Lucas's constant meddling with the footage and multiple denials of the truth, we all know how it actually went down. An unearthed version of the original script proved it, and Blake is one more voice adding to the chorus that's been wanting to see the original version for years. But Lucas won't give in, and Harrison Ford has his own thoughts on the matter.

The INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE Reboot Is Still in Development with Josh Boone

In 2014, we learned that Universal Pictures had acquired the rights to Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles series. The plan was to adapt all of these books for the big screen. Producers Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci are all attached to the project and they hired The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone to write and direct the first film in the series.

The first film in the series was supposed to be The Vampire Lestat. At the time, it was reported that "rather than a remake of Interview With the Vampire, the new film is expected to draw from the second and third books in Rice's series — The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned — and will likely be faithful to the source material."

We haven't really heard anything about this project since the initial announcement. Now today we have a major update from Boone himself, who posted an image on Instagram of his completed script for Interview with the Vampire. Obviously, the project is moving forward!

I'm sure there have been some changes to how the project will be developed since the initial announcement. We'll just have to wait and see how it comes together. I'm a fan of Rice's book series, and I'm excited to see how these film projects all come together.

Disney Princesses Reimagined as Wookiees

We all knew the day would come that some artist would reimagine all of the Disney Princesses as wookiees, and now it is here. This series of amusing illustrations was created by artist Michael Nozinich. They were created for the site OBSVE to celebrate Star Wars Day yesterday. The characters include Ariel, Jasmine, Snow White, Merida, and Belle. I’ve gotta say… they all look pretty disturbing as wookiees.

Screen Gems Is Reportedly Developing a SLENDER MAN Horror Film

We all knew that it was only a matter of time before some studio in Hollywood decided to adapt the Slender Man horror icon into a feature film. According to a report from ComicBook.com, Screen Gems is currently in the process of developing the movie, and a script already exists that was written by David Birke (13 Sins).

Slender Man is a nightmarish character, and I think there’s potential for this to be a terrifying horror film. Slender Man originated on a forum called Something Awful. User Victor Surge was part of a thread asking for “paranormal images through Photoshop.” Surge posted two photos of Slender Man with the following text:

“We didn’t want to go, we didn’t want to kill them, but its persistent silence and outstretched arms horrified and comforted us at the same time . . . 1983, photographer unknown, presumed dead.
“One of two recovered photographs from the Stirling City Library blaze. Notable for being taken the day which fourteen children vanished and for what is referred to as ‘The Slender Man’. Deformities cited as film defects by officials. Fire at library occurred one week later. Actual photograph confiscated as evidence. – 1986, photographer: Mary Thomas, missing since June 13th, 1986."

From there, the users of the forum continued to build on the mythology of the nightmarish being. Slender Man has since exploded online with fan art, a miniseries, stories, short films, video games and more.

Screen Gems seems like the right fit for the big screen adaptation as they have a solid history of producing horror films. According to the report, they are looking to start shooting this fall, and the movie should be released in 2017. I’m actually looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Here's one of the original photos that helped launch the Slender Man legend.

Scene Description From STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII Tells What Happens When Luke Gets Pissed Off

There are potential spoilers ahead… if this rumored information turns out to be true.

A Redditor by the name of Bothan-Spy seems to be dropping some information about Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII. The guy seems to have a source deep in the production feeding him stuff, and reading his posts and responses to people, he seems extremely confident in his intel. Of course, since there is no confirmation from the studio, this is just a big rumor that we can discuss with our friends.

The rumor involves Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren, and Rey. During this scene, Luke gets pissed off and demonstrates part of the level of his power of the Force when he lets his temper get the better of him. Here’s the scene description:

“A couple weeks ago I posted a little bit of info about Ach-To being confirmed as the location of the first Jedi Temple (specifically, the large hut they built at Kerry is ‘where the Jedi began’). I also mentioned a certain member of the First Order winds up at this location in EpVIII as well. That individual is Kylo Ren.
“Here's the saucy bit: A few weeks ago they blew up-- specifically, blew apart-- an Ahch-To hut. According to my source, Kylo and Rey have a conversation that Luke does not like. Luke tries to stop them. Luke gets angry... and the whole hut they are in disintegrates (re: 'blows up'). My source did not specify as to the exact cause of the disintegration, but based on the info I believe Luke accidentally (or perhaps even purposely) does so using the Force.”

Take this information and do with it what you will. Believe, don’t believe it, you can see the whole conversation regarding this information here. Bothan-Spy has been answering questions and responding to people on Reddit.

I have no idea if it’s true or not, but it definitely sounds like a cool scene, and I’m curious to see what exactly this conversation entails if it turns out to be real. It makes me wonder if the conversation involved the death of Han Solo. That would certainly set Luke off.

Robert Kirkman Promises THE WALKING DEAD Season 7 Premiere Will Be “Awesome”

Whether you loved The Walking Dead season six finale or absolutely hated it, one thing is for sure, you’re all going to come back for season seven for the answers to all your questions. I’m not going to complain about the season finale anymore. It’s done and now fans are just forced to wait to find some closure next season.

A new issue of The Walking Dead hit comic stores today, and in the Letter Hacks section of the comic, Kirkman addresses the season six finale. He explains why they did what they did and also promises us that the season seven premiere will be awesome. It damn well better be after the disappointment they left us with. Kirkman explains:

Okay, the season 6 finale has certainly caused a fervor online. EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT. Some people love it. Some people are indifferent. Some people HATE it. We weren't trying to game the audience, we weren't trying to FORCE you to come back for season 7.... we hope you were always planning on doing that and still plan on doing that.
We did want you talk. And talk you are.
The speculation, the frustration, the possibilities, the theories... honestly, in my mind... that stuff is FUN. I honestly feel like that's something fun for the fans to do during the break. Was it Spencer? Could it have been Morgan? What about Carol? Did Negan kill Jesus?! (Note, none of them were there... I'm not giving ANYTHING away.) I know people are angry over this, but that wasn't our intent. The idea was that after 6 seasons of the show, we wanted to stay on your mind and give you somethin to talk about.
And think of it this way... a character you love and are going to miss is DEAD, and we gave you a few extra months to hope, to not grieve. Is there uncertainty? Yes. But that was kind of the idea.
But seriously. Everyone on TWD team wanted to do something cool. We wanted to do something different and we did it to change things up, get people excited and keep this show on your mind.
For some of you, that effort backfired and you're angry. And for that I'm sorry. The only thing I can PROMISE you is that the season 7 premiere is going to be awesome. And when viewed as a two-part episode (the same way EVERY SEASON of Star Trek: The Next Generation ended with the first half of a two-part episode that was a cliffhanger...), it's going to be a pretty awesome ride. And every minute of the season 6 finale was important and was setting something up that you probably won't see coming.
It's a cool episode... and remember... there's a LOT more for Negan to do. Be afraid... be very afraid. And excited!

What do you think about what Kirkman had to say here? Are you excited for the return of The Walking Dead?

CAPTAIN AMERICA Directors Want Wolverine to Join the MCU

There’s been a lot of talk lately from the Marvel filmmakers of both Fox and Marvel about combining their universes. It started off with Spider-Man and Deadpool coming together, and then Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo said they’d love to have Deadpool jump in the MCU. That’s not the only character that Fox has control over that they like to see join their universe. During a recent interview with Collider, the directors were asked who else they would like to play with in the MCU and their answer:

"Joe Russo: Wolverine.
Anthony Russo: Yeah.
Joe Russo: First favorite character growing up was Spider-Man, second was Wolverine. One of my most-prized possessions is Incredible Hulk #181. It was his first appearance.
Weintraub: Do you have it graded or is it just in your collection?
Joe Russo: It’s in my collection. It’s sitting in a safe. I won’t disclose where it is.
Anthony Russo: I know where it is. And I would say Wolverine as well, for all of the exciting reasons that we all gravitate to."

Of course, they want Wolverine! Hell, we’d all love to see Wolverine join the MCU! I have no idea if there are really any serious talks between Marvel and Fox executives regarding a crossover deal, but if they aren’t, there should be.

Last year Marvel and Fox made a deal to develop the X-Men inspired TV series Legion and Hellfire, which tells me the two studios are willing to work with each other. Then, of course, Marvel and Sony were able to work something out which tells us nothing is impossible.

Holy shit! Could you imagine a live-action movie in which we get to see Hulk and Wolverine fight each other?! Could that actually be a reality?! Damn… I’d sure like to think it is.

Boba Fett Was Originally the Main Villain in STAR WARS: EPISODE VI

Wow! What a missed opportunity to do something awesome for one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe. During the early development of Return of the Jedi, there were already plans for three more films that would focus on Luke Skywalker taking on Darth Vader and the Emperor. That was the original story arc for Episodes 7, 8, and 9. That means Return of the Jedi would have been something completely different.

During an interview with Inverse.com, former Lucasfilm fan relations officer Craig Miller revealed that Episode VI would have focused more on Boba Fett as the main villain and Han Solo as the hero. Miller explained:

"Originally Boba Fett was set up in Empire as a character, and the third movie’s plot was going to be more about Boba Fett, rescuing Han Solo and all of that. Boba was gonna be the main villain… That was set up, why he was taking Han Solo away, why there was a thing with him in the Christmas special."

When the second trilogy of films was canceled, the plans for Boba Fett's story arc were also scrapped. Miller goes on to say:

“When George decided not to make a third trilogy, he completely jettisoned that story line, which is why in the first ten minutes, Boba Fett gets bumped into and falls into the mouth of a giant monster. So he took what was planned for the third trilogy, which was the confrontation between Luke and Darth Vader, and the battle with the Emperor, and that got squished down from three movies to one movie. And that became the plot of Jedi.”

How crazy is it that Boba Fett went from having this epic storyline to stupidly getting killed off!? So why did George Lucas dump his plans for more Star Wars films at the time? He lost interest in it!

“At first there was one film, and then George originally announced that it was one of 12, and there were going to be 12, and then that changed to, oh there was never 12, there was only 9, and he was going to make 9. And then during all of it, George kind of lost interest in continuing it… While we were working on The Empire Strikes Back, George decided he was going to complete the first film trilogy and that would be it.”

Miller then recalls the day when Lucas told him he was going to make the Star Wars movie then retire from making big movies to make experimental films:

“And I remember sitting in a mixing room with George, working on Empire, and he told me he was just going to make the third movie, which didn’t have a title at that point, and then stop. He was going to retire from making big movies and make experimental movies. And that’s why the whole plot of the third movie, what became Return of the Jedi, completely changed.”

Sound familiar? That's because we've heard Lucas say the same thing several times before. Apparently, that's what Lucas is supposed to be doing now since he sold Lucasfilm to Disney. I guess we'll never know because he said he would never release any of these "experimental films."

I would have loved to see that original Boba Fett and Han Solo storyline for Episode VI, and a full trilogy dedicated to Luke Skywalker going up against the Emperor and Darth Vader could have been epic!

The New POWER RANGERS Costumes Look Like Tony Stark Designed Them

For those of you who have been wondering what the new Power Rangers costumes would look like in the upcoming movie, here you go! This image was released by Entertainment Weekly, and it looks like something Tony Stark would have come up with. Talking about the costume designs, production designer Andrew Menzies says:

"It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume. Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”

I never expected the costumes in this film to be spandex. I think we all knew they were going to get some kind of heavy armor-type upgrade like this, so I'm not really surprised. The suits look fine, and it will be cool to actually see them in action.

We've previously seen photos of the team without their costumes, which you can see here. The group is comprised of actors Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as Trini the Yellow Ranger, and Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger. Then of course, there's Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

Power Rangers is currently in production, and it hits theaters on March 24th, 2017. What do you think of the new Power Rangers costumes?

Director Chris R. Notarile has been busy this year releasing short films outlining the origin of Freddy Krueger and how he became The Nightmare on Elm Street. He's just released his fifth installment in the series which shows the lead up to the boiler room fire we are all familiar with! The production value isn't the greatest, but I love the concept of watching the events that led to his creation! I would love to see this series redone as a television series or something! See the latest installment below, and check out their Youtube for the prior episodes!

Thanks to Dread Central for the tip.

SUPERGIRL Could Be on The CW for Season 2 With a Lower Budget

$

With two weeks to go before CBS announces its fall schedule, we still have yet to learn the fate of Supergirl. The Wrap has the scoop that the reason for the delay is the initially high viewership of 13 million falling to about half that for the season finale, and the show's enormous budget. At $3 million an episode, it's hard to justify that cash on an audience of just over 7 million, but CBS wants to the show to continue as it is successful.

An interesting proposition has been to move the show to The CW's lineup, but Warner would like the show's budget to be lessened before committing. Who knows if that will dissuade fans of the series, who are used to a much higher production value than Flash or Arrow. This would definitely be difficult as Supergirl kind of needs those effects to look... super!

I know a lot of people want to see a second season of the show, but would it be worth it if it's a shell of its former self? Is the story strong enough to survive a budget decrease? What's your take?

Five Characters The Russo Bros. Want to Explore More in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

$

0

Everything that we've ever seen in the MCU has in one way or another been leading up to what is going to happen in the Avengers: Infinity War films. They are going to have a ton of characters to work with when developing this story arc, but there are five characters in particular that they are hoping to focus on.

During an interview with /Film, Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo talked about how some of the relationships and dynamics of these characters could play a role in the Infinity War films. The five characters they mention are Captain America, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Bucky. Here's what they revealed in their conversation.

Minor Spoilers for Captain America: Civil War follow:

Joe Russo: Certainly Scarlet Witch and Vision. It’s a very compelling story. Obviously, it’s one ripped from the comics that, for many years, there was some very interesting storytelling and characters. One character is searching for how to identify with humanity, another who is on a journey away from her humanity towards becoming a very powerful being.
Anthony Russo: I would also say Captain America and Iron Man is central. Can those guys ever repair their relationship? What is their relationship ever going to be like moving forward from this?
Joe Russo: Should they repair it?
Anthony Russo: That’s as complicated as anything. The other relationship that’s still exciting to us is, again, Cap and Bucky. The wonderful thing about this movie, which started in Winter Soldier, is that Cap had a belief in him, that there’s still a human being inside the Winter Soldier that he can save and that he can reach, and he’s gone to incredible lengths now, with incredible faith, that that’s waiting for him if he goes there. He’s found that human being inside Bucky Barnes, but who is that guy going forward? Just because he’s found and he’s there, he’s still this crazy, bastard hybrid of who he used to be in The First Avenger and this killing machine.
Joe Russo: If he’s not Bucky Barnes or The Winter Soldier, then who he is?
Anthony Russo: He’s somebody new now. What kind of relationship will him and Cap have moving forward?

After seeing Captain America: Civil War, it was safe to assume that many of these characters would return for Infinity War. The one I wasn't so sure about was Bucky, but it's great to hear that he is at least being considered to return. He's such an interesting character, and I love his relationship with Steve Rogers. All of the relationships mentioned here are definitely worth exploring more, and I'm curious to see what exactly they end up doing with them and how they turn out in the end. At the end of the day, a ton of characters and their relationships with each other will be explored in the two Infinity War films.

Infinity War – Part 1 opens in theaters May 4th, 2018, and Part II is set for May 3rd, 2019.

Girl Shares Awesome Method of Creating STAR WARS Character Names

$

After watching this video, I believe that Jenny Nicholson has cracked the code to creating the names of Star Wars characters. Her process is pretty simple:

  • If they are human, give them a normal name and then add real words as a last name OR take two normal names and change a letter or two to make it space-sounding.
  • If they are alien, take random sounds or other languages and combine them.
  • Sith lords, you just add Darth and then part of a word

It works out pretty well as the video will show!

Trailer For Nicolas Cage's WWII Thriller USS INDIANAPOLIS: MEN OF COURAGE

Remember that horrific war 1954 WWII story that Quint recounts in Steven Spielberg's Jaws about the USS Indianapolis? It involved the ship being sunk by the Japanese, leaving 1100 of its crew stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean for a horde of shark to feed on. When I first heard that story in the film, it absolutely terrified me.

Well, that story is finally getting its own movie. It's called USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, and Nicolas Cage plays Capt. Charles Butler McVay, who was sent on a top secret mission with his crew to deliver the parts of the first atomic bomb. It was on the way back from delivering those parts when they were attacked by Japanese submarines.

Because the ship was without an escort, the Indianapolis was not reported missing until four days later. Of 1,196 crewmen aboard, approximately 300 went down with the ship, while the rest faced exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning and shark attacks as they waited for assistance. Only 317 sailors survived, and McVay was court-martialed, then exonerated more than half a century later.

We've got the first trailer for the film for you to watch today thanks to Variety and it looks solid! I've been fascinated in this story since I first heard about it in Jaws and I'm excited to see this how this film brings it to life.

The film was directed by Mario Van Peebles (Empire, Once Upon a Time), it features Tom Sizemore, and Thomas Jane co-stars as the pilot Chuck Gwinn, who spotted the crew of the USS Indianapolis on the fifth day after it sunk. I also included the clip from Jaws in which Quint tell his own version of the story.

Bummer: Ava DuVernay Won't Direct Lupita Nyong'o in INTELLIGENT LIFE

Ava DuVernay has some serious heat in Hollywood after directing Selma. She met with Marvel about directing Black Panther (she ultimately passed), and she'll soon direct Disney's live-action adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time. At the same time that project was announced, word was that DuVernay was also in talks to direct a sci-fi film for DreamWorks called Intelligent Life, which was written by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly and has Lupita Nyong'o lined up to star. But THR reports that DuVernay has now left the project due to conflicts with A Wrinkle in Time and a new TV series she's working on called Queen Sugar.

Intelligent Life centers on a U.N. delegate tasked with being Earth's representative after humanity makes contact with alien life, and then he falls in love with a mysterious woman (Nyong'o) who turns out to be an alien.

It's unfortunate that she won't be sticking around to direct this project, because it sounded like a good fit for her talents and I was excited to see what she could do with Nyong'o. But maybe she'll end up collaborating with Trevorrow again sometime down the line, because this Twitter exchange definitely seems like they're still friendly:
