We’ve shared some of Richard Garcia’s art in the past, but over the past year he has whipped up a few more cool pieces featuring tike-sized geek culture heroes and villains that you’ve gotta check out. The art here features Supergirl, Justice League, Mega Man, Street Fighter, Guardians of the Galaxy, Batman, and more.
For those of you who want to relive the awfulness of Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch but don’t want to waste two more hours of your life watching it, Cinema Sins has released a new "everything wrong" video that just gives you the highlights of everything you hated about it. They managed to point out 139 sins in the movie and each and every one of them are well deserved. It’s actually kind of entertaining reliving the terrible magic of this movie.
Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to attend the Los Angeles press conference for Disney’s The Jungle Book. The conference included director Jon Favreau, Lupita Nyong'o, Ben Kingsley, Neel Sethi, Giancarlo Esposito, and producer Brigham Taylor. During the conference, they talked about several aspects of bringing the classic story of The Jungle Book to life in a way that we’ve never seen before.
They spoke about why they decided to retell this classic story now; talked about how each of them got involved with the film; shared some fun stories about working on the making the movie; offered some insight into what they think makes the movie so great; and explained why the musical score in the film really holds it all together and makes the film explode with awesomeness.
I absolutely loved The Jungle Book. It not only looked visually spectacular but it also perfectly captured the spirit of Disney’s classic animated film. You can read my full review of the film here. I also included a featurette that focuses on the voice talent of the film.
Over the past few months, we’ve shared several custom fashion designs from Elhoffer Designs. There have been dresses inspired by Star Wars, Magneto, Deadpool, and Gwenpool. Her latest dress was patterned after the costume design for Scarlet Witch, and as you can see, it’s pretty damn cool! The creator of these dresses is making the dreams come true for geek girls everywhere!

Deadline recently announced that Ryan Reynolds is potentially going to star in a rom-com called The Rosie Project. If you feel like you have heard of this movie before, you have. The film was originally was going to be directed by Richard Linklater and star Jennifer Lawrence. Both have since pulled out of the movie. It will be an adaptation of the book of the same name, written by Graeme Simsion.
The story revolves around Professor Don Tillman, a brilliant yet socially awkward genetics professor who has decided that it is time to find a wife. Being the analytically minded person that he is, he develops something called The Wife Project. The Wife Project’s sole purpose is to find him the perfect wife, according to the parameters that he has set. Then Rosie enters into his life. She is everything that The Wife Project says he will not like. Yet, he still finds himself attracted to her.
There is no word on who will be playing the female lead in this film, but we will let you know as the info comes out.
I know I am not supposed to, but now I can only think of Reynolds as Deadpool and that is what I am going to expect from him. If there are no quirky one-liners and crazy awesome explosions, I’m out. Is that wrong?

Here are two more custom-made action figures created by the Sam Kwok workshop. These feature a Batman Iron Man figure and a Deadpool Iron Man figure facing off against each other. I don’t know about you, but I would love to see these two characters fight it out! It would be one of the greatest battles ever. I love the stuff that Sam Kwok workshop is creating! You should definitely be following them to see what they come up with next.
I’ve got a fantastic animated version of a 1985 interview in which Studs Terkel is talking to Carl Sagan about extraterrestrials and our inability to communicate with them. If this kind of stuff interests you, this is definitely something that you have to watch because it’s so damn fascinating. Maybe he was teased a bit for his tendency to say “billions”, a lot.

Square Enix Play Arts' Kai action figure line has revealed the stunning figures they have created for Final Fantasy XV. There are three figures that include Inis, Prompto, and Gladiolus.

Last week, Warner Bros. revealed several release dates for some of their upcoming films. One of those release dates was for an "Event Film" that would be released on October 6th, 2017. According to Heroic Hollywood, that "Event Film" is in fact the studio's new Tomb Raider reboot.
The report also points out the studio has registered the domain name thetombraidermovie.com, which suggests that the title of the Lara Croft origin story will be The Tomb Raider. Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is currently in the process of developing the film and Daisy Ridley is up for the lead role.
The action adventure film will be inspired by 2013 video game reboot and it will focus on the origin of this badass female character. The director is hoping to bring a Raiders of the Lost Ark vibe to the film. I would be thrilled if we get a Tomb Raider film that captures that magic! I'm also still rooting for Ridley to land the lead role because that would be fantastic!

I don’t know if you follow comic artist Scottie Young’s blog or not, but the guy is always sharing awesome art work that he whips up. He’s always posting these great daily sketch comics that are incredibly amusing. These comics include several of our favorite geek culture characters such as Deadpool, Harry Potter, Joker, Alf, Superman, Batman, Akira, Mega Man, Hellboy, Garfield, The Incredibles, and more. The first clip from Captain America: Civil War was released tonight during the MTV Movie Awards, and it gives you a little tease of the badass action that you are going to see in this movie! It features Captain America, The Falcon, and Scarlet Witch working together to kick some ass and take out a small army of soldiers led by Crossbones. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what this film has to offer in terms of action. Enjoy!
We've got a brand spankin' new trailer for you to watch for Suicide Squad, and this thing is overflowing with incredibly awesome new footage featuring every character in the film including Batman, Joker, and, of course, Harley Quinn. The trailers for this film just keep getting better and better! This movie looks wonderfully insane and as far as DC films go, this looks like it could be one of the best ones ever made. Obviously my expectations are high, but with this cast and director David Ayer at the helm, I have a feeling my expectations will be met. Anyway, this trailer makes me so damn happy!

This year has been and looks to be one of the best movie years we have had in a while. On that note, let us talk about one of the movies that I am truly excited about, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them features Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) who plays as world-famous magizoologist Newt Scamander, Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) as Tina; Alison Sudol (Dig, Transparent) as Tina’s sister, Queenie; Dan Fogler as Jacob; Jenn Murray (Brooklyn) as Chastity; Ezra Miller (Trainwreck) as Credence; Colin Farrell (True Detective) as Graves; Samantha Morton (In America) as Mary Lou; and Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty
In X-Men: Apocalypse several classic characters are being brought back to the big screen, but this time we will be seeing younger versions of these characters as they become X-Men. Two of these characters are Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops (Tye Sheridan). As you know they have a very romantic past, but X-Men: Apocalypse will focus on them as teenagers struggling with their new identities as mutants.
EW explains that Scott isn’t too keen on going to Xavier’s school because he’s blind due to his energy beams. Director Bryan Singer goes on to offer us some insight on the early relationship between Cyclops and Jean and how they first meet in the story and also discusses where they are at in their lives:
“In the beginning, she’s the last thing he’s interested in. When he first comes to the mansion, Scott’s blind so he can’t see her. Suddenly he gets some glasses and now he can see her and he’s like ‘Oh! That’s Jean Grey.’ Both of them are misfits in a way. Other mutants have settled in with their powers. This is all new to Scott Summers and he doesn’t like it and he doesn’t like school. And Jean she has not only has he telekenisis and her telepathy but she also knows inherently that something darker and more powerful is growing inside her and she doesn’t quite know what it is.”
Turner and Sheridan are stepping into big shoes as Cylcops and Jean Grey were previously portrayed by Famke Janssen and James Marsden, who were perfect in the previous X-Men films. I’m sure they’ll be great in the film, though, as both of them are talented young actors.
A new international TV spot has been released for Captain America: Civil War, and it's pretty damn bizarre. What makes the spot so awkward is the music. I don't think I've ever seen a international spot for any Marvel film quite like this. However, the spot does include a quick new glimpse of Spider-Man at the very end. You have to look really hard, though, as he runs into battle with Team Iron Man. In case you haven't already heard, this movie is freakin' awesome, and you can see what other people have to say about it here.
Entertainment Weekly also released the Captain America: Civil War foldout cover for their upcoming issue. As you can see above, it features Team Cap and Team Iron Man going head to head. It includes every main character except Spider-Man. Even though he’s already been introduced, Marvel continues to be stingy with him and refuses to give fans any more of a look. It’s ok, though, because what you see of him in the movie is going to make you want to jump out of your seat and cheer.
Yesterday, I went to the press conference for Captain America: Civil War, which was a lot of fun. All the actors let loose and get goofy when they're together. One of the most interesting things to come out of the press conference, though, was when Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige was asked about The Wasp and why they didn't include her in the film. This was his response:
"There were drafts where Wasp participated in the splash panel fight, the airport battle. And the truth is, it took away the fun of seeing her suit up for the first time, seeing her on that road to being a hero. We experienced that with Ant-Man in his own movie... and we had big plans and we later announced the title of Paul's sequel, which is Ant-Man and the Wasp."
He went on to explain that they wanted to give her more of a full movie instead of just a small moment in Captain America: Civil War. It makes perfect sense that they would want to do that, and I'm glad that they didn't include her this time around, but it's interesting to know that they did strongly consider it.
In a separate interview with Collider, the film's screenwriters, Christopher Markus and Marcus McFeely talked a little bit more about it:
"You know, almost everybody made it in. There was a period where we talked about bringing Wasp in here was actually a draft Wasp was in because she was so almost on the edge of being in Ant-Man, but then you’re taking something awesome out of the Ant-Man team’s quiver if it’s like, 'Well, we’re doing her!' Plus she had a similar skill set, so it’s like 'Well, maybe we just isolate it to Scott.'
"When you see the movie, you see that Scott is his own comic relief so it would change that a little bit. They would be this pair. Everybody else we would talk about them and then they’d go away, but we got most everybody back."
She really didn't need to be in the movie. It worked perfectly without her and without Thor and Hulk. There was just so much going on, and the story was so enthralling that you didn't miss them. Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6th, 2016, and Ant-Man and The Wasp will arrive on July 6th, 2018.
Like the rest of us, comic artist Phil Noto was extremely excited after seeing the first trailer for Rogue One: A Story Wars Story. He was so excited about it that he just had to whip up this awesome fan poster for the film.
Noto is currently working on Marvel’s Poe Dameron comic series, and even though he’s busy with that, he was inspired to create this piece as soon as he could. He says:
"I haven’t been this excited since the first teaser for TFA. I desperately wanted to make this right after I saw the trailer but had finish up some Poe Dameron work. It’s all crazy and wonderful."
The art features a few of the new characters from the story who are played by Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen. The movie is set to be released on December 16th, 2016.
I'm trying not to read too much before I see it for myself, but I know that critics who saw an early screening really enjoyed Captain America: Civil War. That's a great sign, because I was worried that the increased number of characters would be too much for one movie to deal with and the MCU would start to sag under the weight of its own ambition. But it sounds like the Russo Brothers pulled it off, and that's very, very good news for one key reason: the next two Marvel movies they make are going to be even bigger.
Avengers: Infinity War is starting to peek over the horizon, and speaking with ComicBook.com, the directors teased the appearance of two more heroes who will appear in at least one part of that juggernaut of a movie — including coming about as close as possible to confirming the long-rumored Guardians of the Galaxy crossover:
Anthony: "The movies are intended to be a culmination of everything that's happened before in the MCU so you don't want to get into spoilers but I'm a big fan of what James Gunn has done. [Joe Russo and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done. Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you'd be very excited."
Joe: "I'm excited to work with Thor. They're doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he's gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he's gonna have a real emotional motivation after that."
So it sounds like both Star-Lord and Thor are going to be getting in on the action. Not super surprising, but it's still nice to hear. Now all we need is for someone to get the directors to confirm whether or not the MCU characters from the Netflix shows are going to show up in the movie at some point.
Captain America: Civil War arrives on May 6th; Thor: Ragnarok rains down on November 3, 2017; Avengers: Infinity War — Part 1 hits on May 4, 2018; and Part 2 blasts into theaters on May 3, 2019.
