Check out this awesome collection of sculptures based on classic geek culture characters made out of soda and beer cans. These were created by Japanese artist Makaon, and some of the characters represented here include Mario, Buzz Lightyear, Darth Vader, Batman and more! All of them turned out great! Check out this great retro propaganda poster art for Guillermo del Toro's incredibly epic looking sci-fi action film Pacific Rim. The poster is exclusive to New York Comic Con and Del Toro will be signing copies of it at the Legendary Pictures booth on Friday, October 12th at 2 pm.
The art was created by Spanish artist Raúl Monge (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy 2), who was one of the concept artists on Pacific Rim. The director made the following statement about the artist and the poster design,
Raúl is one of my top concept designers. The idea with this particular piece was to emulate an old WWII propaganda poster/flyer that went along with the world we were creating. It symbolizes rationing - voluntary work force, no guts, no glory kind of heroism.
Del Toro will also announce a Pacific Rim graphic novel that will serve as a prequel to the movie. It will give us more details on the characters and lead up to the story arc of the movie. The comic was also written by the film’s writer Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans), and it's written in three distinct parts covering the in-world history from the first attack up to just before the movie.
The movie stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Idris Elba (Thor), Rinko Kikuchi (The Brothers Bloom), Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy). The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.
It's set to be released on July 12th 2013, and I can't wait! What do you think of the poster design?

One of my favorite parts about Halloween is the Jack-O-Lantern art that starts to show up. It's amazing to see the the things people can do with pumpkins these days. I also enjoy making them myself with my kids! It's always fun stabbing the giant pumpkins and pulling their guts out, and slicing into them.

These pumpkins are all part of the amazing Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular in Providence, Rhode Island. The event is hosted every year with a different theme. These are from the “All the World’s a Stage” show, happening now at Roger Williams Park Zoo from through November 3. The Spectacular features more than 5000 pumpkins carved with scenes from well-known movies, Broadway hits and television series, and as you can see here, comic books. Additionally, there’s a section just for pup-o-lanterns, which showcases incredible pumpkins carved with an “amazing variety of dog species,” and a kids-only section with classic Halloween jack-o-lanterns. Proceeds support the Roger Williams Park Zoo education and conservation efforts, and assist with zoo maintenance and improvement funding.

John Carpenter's classic horror movie Halloween gets the Mondo poster treatment thanks to artist Ken Taylor.
The poster was created for a screening of the film taking place on October 26th and 27th at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, CA. This is part of the Debra Hill Film Festival being hosted by the Producers Guild of America. Hill was a movie producer who passed away in 2005. She produced such films as Escape from New York, Clue, Adventures In Babysitting, and The Fisher King.
Each limited edition poster is a 24 x 36 inch screenprint, and will only be sold at the event. Tickets will run you about $100 for a regular seat or $500 for a VIP seat. Carpenter will be at the event as well along with Paul Reubens because the are also screening the film Big-Top Pee Wee, which Hill also produced.
Debra was a trailblazer, an expert storyteller and a deeply committed member of the Producers Guild. In the years since her passing, we have worked to keep her spirit alive, holding her passion and professionalism as a model for a new generation of emerging producers. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to revisit her work and celebrate her inspirational legacy.

I love it when studios get creative with their posters. It doesn't happen often, mostly for conventions like this. But when it does happen it's a nice breath of fresh air. What do you think of the poster art?

Here's the synopsis:
After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. Kathryn Bigelow follows up the acclaimed The Hurt Locker with a movie about the hunt for and killing of Osama Bin Laden by Navy SEAL Team 6. This full trailer gives us a taste of the style Bigelow is employing. What I found interesting was the now familiar Bin Laden compound viewed in night vision, which makes me wonder how that sequence is going to be shot.
The film stars Chris Pratt, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Frank Grillo, Kyle Chandler, and James Gandolfini.

Zero Dark Thirty arrives in theaters everywhere on December 19th. This trailer looks simply badass, what do you think?
Carlton Cuse has found his next producing gig, according to Deadline. He is reportedly producing an adaptation of Oni Press' graphic novel Sixth Gun for NBC. The drama about "six mythical guns in the Old West" is set to be produced by Universal TV. Ryan Condal has signed on to pen the script and will executive produce with Cuse. Also producing is Eric Gitter and Andy Bourne of Oni Press’s sister company, Closed on Mondays Entertainment.
The story is described as follows:
When the Sixth Gun, the most powerful and dangerous of the group, resurfaces in the hands of an innocent girl named Becky Montcrief, dark forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing Becky. Only Drake Sinclair, a self-serving gunfighter, stands in evil’s way.
This sounds like a great TV show for NBC, which has been having bad luck lately launching quality shows. Do you think Cuse is the person to help launch this property?
Jodie Foster last directed The Beaver, which I really enjoyed, and now she has picked her newest project. Variety reports that the actor/director is attached to direct the indie drama Money Monster.
Grimm's Alan DiFiore wrote the script with Jim Kouf (National Treasure). The film follows "a TV personality whose insider trading tips have made him the money guru of Wall Street. When a viewer who lost all of his family's money on a bad tip from the money expert decides to hold him hostage on air, ratings soar as the entire country tunes into this media frenzy."
Money Monster will be produced by Daniel Dubiecki, who received a best picture Oscar nomination for Up in the Air. Casting will begin immediately, with production scheduled to start early next year.
This will be Foster's fourth directing job. She also directed Home for the Holidays and Little Man Tate. She recently starred in Carnage and will star opposite Matt Damon in Neill Blomkamp's Elysium. Foster is a great actor and a solid director. I am interested in seeing what she does with this material.
Following the Aurora theater shootings, Warner Bros. went into recovery mode in order to reshoot and re-edit their new movie Gangster Squad to erase a sequence in which a bunch of people are shot in a movie theater. We can debate whether or not they should have made those changes some other time, but right now, we have a brand new trailer for the movie (which now has a January release date), and this one is really solid.

Penn looks like an old school Dick Tracy villain, with a flattened face and bizarre features, and the whole vibe of this movie is terrific. Those of you who played the video game L.A. Noire will certainly recognize many of the similarities, and I'm glad we're getting a big budget period piece with such a talented cast to tell this story on the big screen, regardless of the controversy surrounding it.

Seems like Ridley Scott has been dominating the news cycle lately, even though his latest sci-fi film Prometheus came out earlier this summer. It's release to Blu-ray has a whole new round of press interviews going with the iconic director, and some of his recent remarks have been riling up fanboys left and right.
Scott gave Metro (via ComingSoon) a few choice quotes about rumored sequels to his sci-fi projects, clearing up a couple of things and then, in typical Prometheus fashion, not quite answering every single question and instead posing a couple of his own.
Prometheus evolved into a whole other universe. You’ve got a person [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] with a head in a bag [ Michael Fassbender’s David] that functions and has an IQ of 350. It can explain to her how to put the head back on the body and she’s gonna think about that long and hard because, once the head is back on his body, he’s dangerous...I wish it was that easy. They’re going off to paradise but it could be the most savage, horrible place. Who are the Engineers?
That's what we want to know, Mr. Scott. But with all the folks who felt burned by Prometheus, I'm not sure they'd be willing to go along for another ride on a sequel. And as for that Blade Runner sequel, Scott seems sure that we'll actually see it one day:
It’s not a rumour – it’s happening. With Harrison Ford? I don’t know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don’t know how long he can live [laughs]. And that’s all I’m going to say at this stage.
I had heard somewhere that there was no way that Ford would be involved with this (and something about a lead female Replicant, too), but with Scott tossing his name out there like this, it's clear that the story hasn't been broken yet and there's still room to center the film around Ford if he elects to join up. The question for geeks is, as it ever will be surrounding Blade Runner: do you want to know what happens to Harrison Ford's character? Because then that will definitively answer the question of "is Deckard a Replicant?", something that has been the source of discussion for years on end.

The trailer for Texas Chainsaw 3D didn't really do anything for me, but I really like this new poster for the film giving us a terrifying look at Leather Face. The poster was released as a NYCC '12 exclusive. One of the latest bits of other news I heard recently about the movie was that it would also include footage from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, so that's pretty cool. It will be interesting to see how they implement it.
The story centers on a young woman named Heather who discovers that she's a direct descendent of the insane Sawyer family from Tobe Hooper's original film, and she goes back to Newt, Texas to learn a little more about her family history.
Several of the original cast members from the first movie have returned for this one including John Dugan who will reprise his role as Grandfather, Marilyn Burns, Bill Moseley and Gunnar Hansen. It also stars Alexandra Daddario, Tania Raymonde, Sue Rock, Scott Eastwood, Trey Songz, Keram Malicki-Sanchez, Shaun Sipos, Thom Barry, Paul Rae and Richard Riehle.

Many stars would hide away in their multi-million dollar homes if they had a sex tape recently leak, but not Hulk Hogan. The wrestler, actor, and recently tabloid mainstay embarked on a nationwide press tour recently. His latest stop was at The Howard Stern show, where he had some interesting things to say.
While there he said that he wants to star in The Expendables 3, which sounds good to me. He then went on to say that Darren Aronofsky had offered him the role ultimately played by Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler. Not long after that statement, Aronofsky tweeted denying Hogan's claim.

Hogan may have received the script and automatically assumed he was being offered the lead role. I don't think that Hogan meant to to lie outright, but I believe Aronofsky. A role in Expendables 3 makes comeplete sense, and surprisingly has yet to happen even though Sylvester Stallone is friends with Hogan.

It's been a long time since we've heard anything about Eric Powell and David Fincher's CG animated feature film adaptation of The Goon, but today I bring you some great news! They've launched a KickStarter campaign with Blur Studios to raise the money to make a Story Reel that will hopefully lead to the movie getting major funding.
It's been a couple years since the test trailer and footage was shown at Comic-Con, and it's great to see they are trying everything they can to get the movie made. They have a goal of getting $400,000, and they are on their way to reaching that!
I have no doubt The Goon will make an incredible movie. I've loved everything I've seen from it, and I'm excited to see that there's now a real chance that it will get made thanks to KickStarter! For those of you who want to help get the movie made and learn more about the project CLICK HERE.

All the work you've seen (animation footage, trailers, artwork, etc.) has been produced independently and out-of-pocket by the creative team of David Fincher, Eric Powell, Blur Studio and Dark Horse Entertainment. We created "proof of concept" footage to show Hollywood the incredible potential of a Goon movie. It was very well received BUT because this movie isn't a sequel or filled with dancing animals we'll need more to bust open the gates and UNLEASH Goon and Franky on Hollywood. Of course I marveled at the characters and was smitten with the mise-en-scene, but it was the language—that uncategorizable: Dead End Kids Meets Abbot and Costello Meet the Mummies—that unlikely Powellian patois that absolutely hooked me. If this is your first time, you are in for a treat—if not, you already know how lucky you are."

Risks and Challenges:
Our biggest challenge is simply to create a great story for a film people want to see. Being funny is hard work and sometimes the jokes don't come on schedule. At the big studios they work on reels like this for YEARS--and we know making it great will be a monumental task.
And it takes the right people to achieve greatness--we'll need to identify the best people and add to our team to make this film"blueprint" amazing. There's a lot of talented folks out there but finding the ones that share a passion for the unique world and characters in the Goon is key--it will take time and diligence.
Lastly on the rewards: we will update the production blog as diligently as possible but bear with us with any delays between posting. We want to focus our main efforts on making the storyreel and will update the blog when we can. As for those who pledge enough for the original drawings from Eric--please allow some time to get those done. Eric's got a busy schedule getting the comic itself out to readers.
Thanks for the support and thanks in advance for putting up with any delays we may encounter in delivery. Blur has done a lot of creative work over the years but we've never done anything quite like this before--including the whole rewards thing and it will be a new challenge for us--but we're looking forward to it!
Summit Entertainment has released a new emotionally intense UK trailer for their great looking disaster drama The Impossible. The movie is based on a true story of survival about a family who is torn apart by the deadly tsunami that hit Southeast Asia in 2004. The movie was directed by Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) and stars Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts.
Here's the Synopsis:
Maria (Naomi Watts), Henry (Ewan McGregor) and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking forward to a few days in tropical paradise. Microsoft and 343 Industries have released the second episode in the Halo web-series on Machinima Prime, Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.
Cadet Michael "Sully" Sullivan continues to decode the hidden ONI combat video as Lasky's struggle with his place in the UNSC ignites with fellow cadet Walter Vickers. After a classroom confrontation with Captain Mehaffey and a challenge from Chyler, Lasky pulls Hastati Squad back from the brink...at a terrible physical cost to himself.
The story will unfold weekly through a series of five episodes, and will lead up to the worldwide launch of Halo 4 on November 6th. So far this web-series has been quite impressive, and I can't wait for the next episode! Master Chief is also expected to make an appearance in the series at some point.

Directed by Stewart Hendler (“H+,” Sorority Row), written by Todd Helbing and Aaron Helbing ("Smallville," "Spartacus") and backed by a top-tier production team, including Executive Producers Lydia Antonini and Josh Feldman, former Warner Bros. and Playtone executives, respectively, Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn features a diverse cast of established and up-and-coming Hollywood talent, including Tom Green ("Dance Academy") as Thomas Lasky, Anna Popplewell ("The Chronicles of Narnia") as Chyler Silva, Daniel Cudmore (X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, "The Twilight Saga") as the Master Chief, Ayelet Zurer (Angels & Demons, Munich) as Mehaffey, Mike Dopud (Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol) as General Black, Enisha Brewster (Footloose) as April Orenski, Masam Holden ("Grey’s Anatomy" Elizabethtown) as Michael "Sully" Sullivan, Osric Chau (2012) as JJ Chen, Iain Belcher ("Supernatural") as Vickers, and Kat De Lieva as Dimah.
An extended, 90-minute Special Edition featuring additional footage and bonus content will be available Nov. 6 in the Halo 4 Limited Edition, and on Blu-ray, DVD, Xbox Video, iTunes and video on demand services this Dec. in the U.S. and Canada.
