first-look-at-eugene-arseface-root-in-preacher

Yesterday the pilot episode for AMC's Preacher series screened at WonderCon and it was incredible! Fans of the comic are going to be very happy, and even if you've never read the comic this is a series that I know people re going to enjoy. It was funny, action-packed, dramatic, and the characters were fantastically brought to life. We will have a full review up of the pilot episode later, so stay tuned.

IN the meantime Preacher showrunner Seth Rogen released a first look photo of one of the show's most popular characters in the story, Eugene Root a.k.a. "Arseface", and as you can see, it's a face you'll never forget! The character is played by Ian Colletti in the series.

Preacher is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse embarks on a journey to, literally, find God, joined by his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun).

The series premieres on AMC on May 22nd.

Cool Poster Art For Peter Jackson’s THE FRIGHTENERS

Artist Dave Perillo is the creator of this piece of poster art for Peter Jackson and Michael J. Fox’s The Frighteners. It was made for a special screening at The Hollywood Theater in Pittsburgh that took place on March 24th. The poster comes in a 18″ X 24″ regular and variant edition which features a Glow in the Dark ink Layer, which is always cool!

The Frighteners is such a fun and insane movie. It the film that led me to watch Peter Jackson’s previous films such as Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, Dead Alive, and Heavenly Creatures. Needless to say I was instantly a fan. A few years after The Frighteners, Jackson went on to make The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which are some of the great films ever made in my opinion.

If you want to order a print for yourself it’ll only cost you $25 here. To watch the original trailer for the film, you can check it out below.

JACOB'S LADDER Reboot To Star Michael Ealy

A remake of the 1990 Tim Robbins supernatural horror thriller Jacob's Ladder has been in the works for a few years now. It’s taken a big step forward recently as The Perfect Guy star Michael Ealy has been cast in the lead role. I have no idea if he’s a good actor or not, but I don’t like the fact that this film is being remade.

The original film followed a haunted Vietnam vet who attempts to discover his past while suffering from a severe case of disassociation and mourning his dead child. To do this he has to “decipher reality and life from his own dreams, delusion, and perception of death.”

The new film is described as “a modern-day paranoid action thriller about two brothers.” There are no other details, but it sounds like it’s going to be a very different kind of movie. The script was written by Jeff Buhler (Pet Cemetery, Midnight Meat Train) and Sarah Thorp (The Bounty Hunter).

The film in being directed by David Rosenthal who directed Ealy in The Perfect Guy. I didn’t see that film, as it didn’t look good and didn’t interest me at all. The critics didn’t seem to like it either — it only has a 20% Rotten Tomatoes rating. This doesn’t spark any confidence in the remake of Jacob's Ladder. It just seems like it’s going to be a waste of money. That’s a shame.

assimilate-yourself-with-this-borg-themed-star-trek-backpack

I’m a big fan of geek culture backpacks as I have a few Star Wars-themed ones that I take to the conventions with me. But I’ve never seen a Star Trek-themed backpack that I’ve wanted to buy until now. This backpack is inspired by the Borg, which is one of my favorite Star Trek villains. I always dug the creepy look of them and this backpack awesomely captures that look.

Resistance is futile, but only because this backpack is so stylin'! The Star Trek: The Next Generation Borg Backpack has been designed to look just like a piece of equipment used by the Borgs from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Made from faux leather and nylon, the bag features comfort-shaped back padding and adjustable straps along with a padded interior pocket that can fit any size laptop. Fans of TNG would love it!

The backpack is $89.99 and if you like what you see, you can order yourself one at Entertainment Earth

Jake Gyllenhaal Recalls Peter Jackson’s Brutal Response to His Awful LORD OF THE RINGS Audition

I’ve always thought that Jake Gyllenhaal was a solid actor. Ever since I saw him in October Sky, I know he was going to have a successful career. He constantly seems to be making one great film after another. At one point he auditioned for Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings for the role of Frodo. The audition didn’t go very well, and after it was over Jackson apparently told him that he was the worst actor that he’d ever seen.

While a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Gyllenhaal talked about the experience and how his agents neglected to tell him that he needed to do an English accent for the role. This big oversight led to a pretty disheartening experience for any actor. The actor recalled:

“[Jackson] literally turned to me and said, ‘You are the worst actor that I have ever seen.’ He said, ‘Did anyone tell you you were supposed to have an accent?’ I was like, ‘No!’ And he said, ‘Well, fire your agents.’”

Damn! That’s a harsh response! I don’t know why any director would say that to an actor. It a complete confidence destroyer. As much as I’m a fan of Jackson, that was uncalled for, and an assholish thing to say to anyone. As you know, Gyllenhaal went on to make some amazing movies and give some incredible performances. Jackson then went on to make a bunch of mediocre films.

That being said, Elijah Wood was awesome as Frodo and as good as Gyllenhaal is, it’s hard to imagine him in that role.

This is My Favorite JAWS Poster Ever Created

This wonderfully horrific poster of Quint a few moments before he is about to be eaten by the shark might just be my favorite Jaws poster ever. The art is called "Quint’s Swan Song," and it was created by John Barry Ballaran. I love the sheer terror on Quint’s face in this thing. The guy never really showed an ounce of fear in the movie, until right before his death, and this captures it perfectly. In regards to his piece, the artist said:

“Conceptually focusing on the sheer power of Bruce [the shark] and the fear he instils in his greatest adversary Quint, during his final moments meeting his maker.”
“A homage to Spielberg's 'what you can't see is more terrifying' way of filming Jaws.”

This poster got to me late because it went on sale last week. You can check here to see if there are any prints left from the limited edition size of 195.

Fred Armisen to Voice Krang in TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2

Paramount Pictures brought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows to WonderCon this weekend. It was there they announced that former SNL comedian Fred Armisen would be providing the voice of the alien villain Krang in the movie. This is a very interesting and unexpected casting choice.

During the panel, producer Andrew Form talked about how good of a fit Armisen is for the character and says, “Anyone who’s a fan of Krang will love what Fred is doing. It’s unbelievable." So I guess that's something that fans of the film franchise have to look forward too.

As most of you already know, Krang is an alien brain warlord from another dimension who reside in a giant android exoskeleton. It's one of the most ridiculous things from the franchise, but thats why I loved the series so much as a kid!

Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, and Noel Fisher have reprised their roles as Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo. Johnny Knoxville is providing the voice of Leonardo again. The movie also sees the return of Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, and William Fichtner as Eric Sacks. Some of the newcomers include Tyler Perry as scientist Baxter Stockman, WWE Star Sheamus as Rocksteady, Gary Anthony Williams as Bebop, Brittany Ishibashi as Karai, Stephen Amell as Casey Jones, and Brian Tee as Shredder.

Elijah Wood Set to Star in Max Landis' DIRK GENTLY Series

Elijah Wood is set to take on the co-lead role in a new series for BBC America called Dirk Gently. The series is based on the book series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency novels by Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy author Douglas Adams. The series was written by Max Landis (Chronicle, Victor Frankenstein), and it's set to debut in fall 2016.

I've never read the books, but it sounds like it will make for a fun series. Dirk Gently is "a comedic thriller that follows the bizarre adventures of eccentric 'holistic' detective Dirk Gently and his reluctant assistant Todd (Wood), as they wend their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery a season, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth."

The report goes on to offer more details on the character Todd, saying that he "does not consider himself a sidekick. He is just flat-out better than Dirk at a lot of things. He always attempts to solve matters with the fewest steps possible; despite being a compassionate, sweet, smarter-than-average man with biting wit, Todd often finds himself at the intersection of morally gray crossroads. Thus, his bad habits of lying and stealing have dire consequences that he can’t put off forever, even though he tries. As Todd describes himself to Dirk: 'I am not your Watson, asshole. I am not available for side-kicking on something I am not involved with. I am my own messed up person with my own messed up problems.'"

The first season will be eight episodes long. It's being co-produced by AMC Studios, Ideate Media, and comic book publisher IDW Entertainment with Circle of Confusion also producing.

Enemies Will Unite in Heart-Pounding New Trailer for WARCRAFT

“Dark forces are upon us.”

Warcraft is one of my most anticipated films of the year. This movie looks so freakin’ awesome to me, and it’s weird for me to see a lack of excitement for the film from people I’ve talked to. I love this kind of stuff, but even some people I know who are really into the fantasy genre are being really stubborn about this movie, and I just don’t get it. This thing not only looks visually stunning, but it is going to be an action-packed adventure film with what looks like a solid story. The icing on the cake is the fact that it was directed by Moon director Duncan Jones who is a hardcore fan of the game that the movie is based on. I really hope this movie doesn’t have the same fate as John Carter because this has potential to be an awesome franchise.

We have a new extended spot for you to watch that has some cool new footage worth checking out. I have such high hopes for this one, and I hope people start getting more excited for it the closer we get to its release.

The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

Warcraft hits theaters on June 10th, 2016. Are you pumped up for this movie? If not, I’m curious to know why.

International SUICIDE SQUAD Trailer with New Footage and Photos Released

This weekend Batman v Superman was released in theaters, and regardless of what you thought about it, the film completely blew up at the box office and made a ton of money. I had a blast watching the movie regardless of its faults, but I'm still more excited for David Ayer's Suicide Squad. I think Suicide Squad is going to be a far superior film.

We've got a great international trailer for you to watch today for that film that offers us some new footage to enjoy. I love the energy these trailers have. Suicide Squad is going to be one hell of a ride. I also included a couple new images from the film that feature the team of villains who will save the world. The director told USA Today the movie takes “these people who are rejected by the world, who think they aren’t good people, beyond just ‘Hey, we’re villains and we do bad things’ but are really people who believe they are deserving of love and friendship.”

The characters included in the photos are Diablo (Jay Fernandez), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), and Katana (Karen Fukuhara). Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5th.

Matthew Vaughn Reveals KINGSMAN Sequel Title, Story Details, and Concept Art

Thanks to director Matthew Vaughn, we have some new details to share with you regarding his upcoming Kingsman sequel. While talking to Empire, he revealed that the movie will be called Kingsman: The Golden Circle. He also shared some concept art and offered up some details on the story.

It's previously been announced that Julianne Moore had been cast as the main villain and that Halle Berry will also have a role in the film as the head of the CIA. They will join Taron Egerton who will reprise his role as Eggsy. The sequel will take the action from the Kingsman group to the Statesmen, which is the U.K. organization's U.S. equivalent.

"I didn't know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot."

He went on to talk about the expectations of the fans:

"You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you've never seen before."

Those sequences apparently involves skiing, a barroom brawl, robot dogs, one-armed henchmen, and the heroes being attacked by what Vaughn calls, "a massive f***ing frankfurter." Sounds awesome to me! I absolutely loved the first film. It's going to be hard to top, but hopefully Vaughn is able to pull it off.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle comes to theaters on June 16th, 2017. Check out the concept art below:

James Wan Says His AQUAMAN Will Be Cool, Badass, and Have Sea Monsters

$

Over the weekend Aquaman was introduced into the DC Extended Universe in Batman v Superman, and it was one of the most disappointing moments in the movie. We've heard a lot of talk about the character being a badass version of the character, but there was nothing badass about that intro. It was pretty lame compared to the other Justice League members.

Aquaman is being directed by James Wan, who showed up to WonderCon this weekend to talk about The Conjuring 2. I'm a huge fan of this director, and regardless of how the character was briefly portrayed in Batman v Superman, I am still excited to see what Wan does with him.

While talking to IGN at the convention, Wan opened up about what he is looking to do with the film and the character. Asked if the movie would have the same kind of dark tone as Batman v Superman Wan said:

"The kind of filmmaker that I am...even my darker horror films generally are still very fun and I think that's important for me and the kind of films I make.
"Aquaman is a character that a lot of people have made fun of over the years and I just think it's fun to actually show a really different, cool, badass side to this character, but at the same time, let's not forget to have fun with it."

It will be interesting to see the kind of fun that Wan is planning to have with this character. In a separate interview with /Film, he teased that some of that fun might include sea monsters and creatures.

"I think, like most people, we are familiar with Aquaman.  We grew up reading or watching this character on the peripheral. I was never so in depth with Aquaman as, let’s say, I was with X-Men. I grew up loving X-Men, Spider-Man and Batman. Those are obviously the key big ones, but there’s always something kind of cool about Aquaman still, the idea of creating a huge world that is on our planet. That’s the thing about Aquaman that’s cool is he’s not an alien, right? He’s from our planet and he’s from a society that we’re not privy to in the context of the story. Isn’t it crazy to think that we’ve explored space more than we have explored the depths of our ocean? That just fires up my imagination about potential sea monsters and cool creatures, that kind of stuff."

It will be interesting to see what kind of sea monsters he actually brings into the mix. Geoff Johns' solo Aquaman comic featured The Trench, in which vicious sea creatures resided in a giant crack on the ocean floor. Some other creatures include Creature King, Deep Six, and King Shark.

I'm sure Jason Momoa's Aquaman will have a much stronger introduction in the upcoming movie. Wan is a talented guy, and I think he'll give fans something spectacular.

Creepy Trailer for the James Wan-Produced Horror Thriller LIGHTS OUT

creepy-trailer-for-the-james-wan-produced-horror-thriller-lights-out

Over the weekend at WonderCon, producer James Wan unveiled the first trailer for a great looking new horror thriller called Lights Out. It is based on a short film of the same name that was released in 2014. The short went viral and producer Lawrence Grey contacted director David F. Sandberg and told him they wanted him to adapt it into a feature film. They brought Wan on board to help in the process, and it looks like they came up with something incredibly fun, creepy, and inventive.

The movie stars Teresa Palmer, Gabriel Bateman, Alexander DiPersia, Billy Burke, and Maria Bello, who plays a mother with an eerie imaginary friend. The director explained that usually in horror films it's the kids with the creepy imaginary friends. So the fact that in this movie it's the mom, and her kids are put in the situation where they have to deal with that kind of craziness is refreshingly unique. Here's the synopsis:

A tale of an unknown terror that lurks in the dark. When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.

Lights Out is set to be released on July 22nd, and if you're a fan of the horror genre, you won't want to miss out on this.

New Trailer for THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Pokes Fun at Other Batman Films

$

Because he's Batman and he's so awesome, the upcoming film The LEGO Batman Movie gets not one, but two trailers within the span of a week! This one is even funnier than the first teaser trailer. The majority of the trailer takes place in Wayne Manor and includes a humorous conversation between Batman and Alfred. In the process, the trailer pokes fun at some of the other Batman films that have been made over the years and shows him teaming up with the LEGO Justice League as well as fighting a team of very familiar villains including Clayface, Bane, and Harley Quinn.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

The movie features the voice talent of Will Arnett as Batman, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker, and Mariah Carey as Mayor Marion Grange. The film is being directed by Chris McKay and is set to be released on February 10th, 2017.
