With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice coming out this week, Hot Toys has unveiled their Wonder Woman collectible action figure. They completely nailed the awesomeness of the costume, but I've gotta be honest... the face doesn't really look like Gal Gadot, especially in the close-up shots. Maybe this is just an early version of the figure and the face sculpt is still in the process of being created. But these photos that were released really do focus on the face, so I'm not sure. I guess we'll just have to wait and see when the final product is released. Either way, it's still a cool figure.

“I don’t think you’ve ever known a woman like me.”

The official release of the widely anticipated epic blockbuster, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is just around the corner! In addition to the Bat of Gotham and Son of Krypton, the Princess of the Amazons, Wonder Woman, has also been a character that many fans around the world has been excited for and can’t wait to see how the warrior princess will impact the DC Extended Universe!

Today Hot Toys is delighted to officially present the highly anticipated 1/6th scale Wonder Woman Collectible Figure to celebrate the movie launch!

The movie-accurate collectible is specially crafted based on the image of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the film featuring a newly developed head sculpt with long curly dark brown real fabric hair and Wonder Woman’s signature tiara, newly developed female body, specially tailored armor, detail recreation of Wonder Woman’s weapons, and a Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice themed figure stand.

Don’t miss the chance to add this Warrior Princess to your prized collection today!

KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE Could Be Getting a Television Series

Killer Klowns From Outer Space could soon have a four part miniseries debut according to its director/writer Stephen Chiodo. Bloody Disgusting writes that the director is in talks to develop what he calls a "requel" to air on cable television...

"Right now, we are currently pursuing a long arch series for cable. We wondered, should we do a sequel to the first one or do we do a remake? We came up with a ‘requel’ – it’s a sequel and a remake. We’ve been developing this for a while. It’s a trilogy in four parts, and it really follows the continuing adventures of new people who are experiencing this phenomenon of a Klown invasion, and once in a while you see some of the old guys pop up and hear their stories – find out what happened over the last 25 years. It’s fucking great."

If you want to hear the word straight from the horse's mouth, check out the Movie Crypt Podcast, which did a full interview with the director. Personally, I think this is fantastic news! My favorite remakes are franchises I care very little about!

New THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR Trailer Ramps Up The Action

The marketing campaign for The Huntsman: Winter's War has been interesting because of how much it's made me go back and forth about whether I even want to see the film. The presence of Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain certainly helps, but one of the recent trailers just made it look completely uninspired. But today there's a new trailer, and this one actually looks much better. Mind you, it's still a cheesy, action-heavy fairy tale prequel, so it's probably not going to be anyone's favorite movie of the year, but at least this makes it appear to be watchable. It's yet another testament to the power of good trailer editing. (Again, this isn't the best trailer I've seen all year [or even this week], but I think it's an improvement over the previous ones.)

The Huntsman: Winter's War comes to theaters on April 22nd. What do you think?

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes remains one of my top animated series of all time. It's a damn shame it went out the way it did, even if it did get a spiritual successor! I wish I could write a thousand posts today about how much I like this Captain America: Civil War mash-up with this show and how great it is! It would make my job hella easy for starters, plus it's that good.

Harrison Ford Talks About His Excitement For INDIANA JONES 5

We all know that The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was super painful to watch. Sad but true. With that being said, I still just can’t help but be excited for the prospect of another installment in the Indiana Jones franchise. What makes it better is knowing that Harrison Ford is excited for it too!

On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ford opened up about how he feels on the whole Indiana Jones subject:

"The opportunity to work with Steven again, and the chance to revisit this character which has brought pleasure to so many people — not to mention me. It’s great fun to play this character, it’s great fun to work with Steven. I’m looking forward to it."

I am glad that he is ready to jump into that world again. There is no word yet as to when filming will start. I am anxiously waiting for any information in regards to the movie. Until it is released, I will have to watch the original three movies. You know, for research and stuff.

Indiana Jones 5 was officially announced last week. It's set to be released in 2019 and David Koepp was hired by Spielberg to write the script. I also included a video of Ford talking about how he finally got Disney and Lucasfilm to (SPOILERS for The Force Awakens) kill off Han Solo.

GAME OF THRONES Season 6 to Feature The Biggest Battle in TV History

HBO's Game of Thrones returns to TV in just over a month, and Entertainment Weekly — the outlet seeming chosen by the network years ago to officially reveal any and every little scrap of information about the series — is back with another report about the upcoming sixth season and how it's going to blow our minds. They spoke with writer/producer Bryan Cogman and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss about one of the new season's most epic moments: a battle that, according to their headline, will be the biggest in TV history. Cogman explains:

“It’s definitely the biggest [action sequence yet]. We’ve always wanted to get to a place – story-wise and budget-wise and time-wise and resource-wise – where we would be able to do a proper battle, with one army on one side, one army on another side.”

But who, exactly, will we see on the battlefield? No one will say because it's spoilery, but EW does break down what kind of battle it will be: "Hundreds of human soldiers on one side of a field, another army on the other side, and then there is a clash that is highly tactical, yet character-driven, and shown from start to finish – a 'proper battle,' as Cogman put it." That sounds super ambitious, but that's exactly what I want from a show with one of (if not THE) biggest budgets on TV. Weiss talked about why we just don't see stuff like this on television:

“We wondered, ‘Why don’t you see more fully fleshed-out battles in movies and TV?’ Then you get into the nitty-gritty of what it takes to actually shoot these things in a way that isn’t just helter-skelter chaos but actually gives you a sense of battle geography and the ebb and flow, and you realize why.”

Thankfully, they're bringing back a director who should be able to handle that level of complexity and that many moving parts in an episode of that size: Miguel Sapochnik, who directed season 5's jaw-droppingly cool "Hardhome" episode.

“Miguel did such a fantastic job with ‘Hardhome’ we thought we should bring him back – this time with horses,” Benioff said. “Horses are not easy, at all. And certainly in terms of numbers – number of extras, number of stuntmen, number of shooting days – it’s the biggest we’ve done.”

Game of Thrones season 6 premieres on April 24th, so we don't have much longer to wait until we see all of this action unfold.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN IMAX Featurette and Behind The Scenes Photos

I'm still very wary about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I really want to love it, but as we'll all discover when the review embargo officially lifts today at 3pm, I've heard some not-so-great things about the film. One of the things that seems to be universally praised (at least from the quiet rumblings I've heard so far) is Gal Gadot's performance as Wonder Woman, and now we have some new behind-the-scenes photos from WB's Snapchat (via CBM) and an IMAX featurette that showcases some of Batman's dream sequence in which he sees Darkseid's omega symbol charred into the desert. There's also a cool gif that shows what the ratio will be depending on what format you choose to watch the film.

I'm seeing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice tonight, and I should have a review for you here on the site sometime tomorrow. The film opens on Friday.

Gwendoline Christie Joins Elisabeth Moss in TOP OF THE LAKE Season 2

$

The debut season of the 2013 crime drama Top of the Lake was a meditative and often dark look into the disappearance of a pregnant 12-year-old girl. It's a gorgeous show, with stunningly beautiful cinematography of its New Zealand setting and some stellar performances from its lead actors. Thanks to EW, we now know that two of TV's best supporting actresses are uniting for the series' second season. Gwendoline Christie (who plays Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones and briefly appeared as the mostly-useless Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has signed on to play a major role opposite Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss, who did excellent work in the first season and is returning to reprise her role of detective Robin Griffin. David Dencik (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures), and Ewen Leslie (The Daughter) are all on board for this go-around as well.

Set four years after the events of season 1's finale, season 2 will begin with Moss's detective character investigating the death of an unidentified Asian girl whose body washes up on the shore of Australia's Bondi Beach.

Jane Campion co-wrote season 1's episodes with Gerard Lee, who's returning in that capacity for season 2, and she directed the first season with Garth Davis, who's being replaced by Ariel Kleiman for the new episodes. Top of the Lake Season 2 will air on SundanceTV and Hulu in the U.S. later this year and on BBC2 in the UK. If you haven't seen season one, I'd recommend checking it out, but beware — it's a little heavy.

This Retro Gaming Shower Curtain Puts You in The Cartridge

ThinkGeek has a cool retro gaming shower curtain for sale that makes it appear as if you're on the front cover of a classic Nintendo cartridge when you're showering. It'll set you back $24.99, which seems pretty reasonable.

To some, the bathroom is a room for taking care of business; to others, it's a room full of fun. For us, it's totally fun. You can play in the bathtub, you can draw on the fogged up mirror, and you make beautiful music (we mean singing... okay, we mean something else, too). And now you can add one more thing to your bathroom. That's right: old-school gaming. Just hang up a Retro Gaming Shower Curtain, and suddenly the shower is your new gaming console.

Shower old-school style with this Retro Gaming Shower Curtain without having to worry about getting water in the cartridges. Its see-thru panel lets you be the star of Super Shower Time, instead of one of those stupid plumbers. Although that sort of works now that we think about it. Plumbers. Shower. Anyhow, lather up with your Cleantendo - now you're sudsing with power!

Horror Film CLOWN, From SPIDER-MAN Director, Finally Getting Released This Summer

We first wrote about the horror film Clown back in 2010, when it was only a fake trailer that got the attention of director Eli Roth. The Weinstein Company ended up acquiring the movie before it went into production a couple of years later, and then the full feature was eventually completed, only to sit on a shelf collecting dust.

Now Deadline reports that The Weinstein Company is finally going to give the movie a limited theatrical release starting on June 17, 2016. The film has looked creepy as hell ever since its first trailer debuted, but now there's likely going to be an added element of curiosity from fans: the director of the movie is Jon Watts, the same guy who's been hired to direct the next Spider-Man movie for Sony and Marvel. (He also directed Cop Car, an underrated indie thriller from last year.)

We've been talking about Clown for so long now that I just assumed it was released and I somehow missed it, but horror fans should mark their calendars for this summer to see if the movie is worth the wait.

5 Anime That Would Make Badass Live-Action Movies

$
0
0

We’ve now seen a couple of instances of filmmakers wanting to take an anime show and turn it into a live-action movie, and every time it has been a flop. The obvious examples are of course The Last Airbender and Dragonball Evolution. However, what if people did these adaptations right? We picked some of our favorite anime shows that could potentially pull off the live-action treatment.

Supernatural Genre

Yu Yu Hakusho

The Story: Yu Yu Hakusho is an anime from the '90s about Spirit Detective Yusuke Urameshi. Yusuke goes around with his friends fighting off demons to save the world. This could be adapted really well into a live-action movie using the Saint Beast story arc. We’d start off with Yusuke, already having his powers, receiving the call to Maze Castle, where the four Saint Beasts reside. Yusuke and supporting characters Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama would, of course, defeat the Saint Beasts, but those fights could be really fun to watch if done properly. The story from this arc is great yet compact enough to fit into a 1.5 or 2-hour movie if planned correctly.

Other Thoughts: The demons could all be made with prosthetics, giving it a more real feel. Although some may not be able to be done with prosthetics (Genbu, for example), that doesn’t mean we can’t use them in a different way. The fights could also use a style similar to those in kung fu movies, or even Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Honorable Mentions: Witch Hunter Robin, Bleach

Mecha Genre

Zoids — New Century/Century Zero

The Story: Zoids is a fantastic show from the early 2000s about people piloting giant robot animals to fight. There's not too much there in terms of story, except at the end of the show. The last five episodes of Century Zero are the story of the Royal Cup, which is the best narrative section of this series. The narratives are better in Chaotic Century, but they're also next to impossible to break down to one movie. The Royal Cup is long enough that you can have the same narrative, play with a couple of the details (we don’t need 15 minutes of the Blitz Team goofing off at the beach), and make some of the battles longer/more detailed. Let’s face it: when watching a mecha movie, we’re not looking for the best story as much as we’re looking for a really fun time.

Other Thoughts: The animal nature of Zoids would be a nice break from other giant robot movies like Pacific Rim and Transformers.

Honorable Mentions: Gundam Wing, Neon Genesis Evangelion

Sports Genre

Haikyuu!!

The Story: Haikyuu!! is by far the biggest breakout sports anime of the past two years. Based on the JUMP manga, this show follows Karasuno High School’s boy’s volleyball team in their quest for victory. This show is praised for its realistic portrayal of sports (compared to other shows in this genre) and we think a live-action adaptation would help celebrate how true-to-life the action really is.

As much as I love every second of this anime, there’s no way to fit all of season one into a movie. If we simply focus on the Karasuno vs Seijou rivalry, however, I think we can do it justice. This would mean cutting out everything involving Nekoma and requiring different explanations for both Coach Ukai joining the team, as well as Asahi’s return. With these changes, the plot would still focus on Hinata joining the team and how the team has to learn to come together to defeat Seijou, but after Karasuno’s first practice match against them, we’d simply jump into a training camp montage before the tournament arc starts. The movie would end the same way that season one does.

Other Thoughts: This film would be most successful if it was shot in the style that 2004’s Miracle was, where the camera followed the action on the ice, as opposed to showing a bird’s eye view of the games, like you would see in the Olympics. This would allow for the same dynamic action that the anime portrays so well.

Honorable Mentions: Free!, Kuroko’s Basketball

Action Genre

Soul Eater

The Story: Soul Eater is an anime from 2008 that takes place at a school where there are two types of students: weapons and meisters. These students team up to fight evil and collect corrupted souls. For this movie, we’d focus on the team of Soul and Maka, and the adventures that they go on in season one. These would lead up to the battle at the school in episodes 18-24 that involves Maka and her friends trying to prevent the evil witch Medusa from awakening the monster known as the Kishin.

Other Thoughts: My only concern for this film is that it would be very easy to be extremely cheesy. Lame weapon props, crappy effects, or even poor set design could instantly strip away all of the awesomeness that this series brings to the table.

Honorable Mentions: Yu-Gi-Oh!, Bleach

Romance Genre

Your Lie in April

The Story: Kousei was a brilliant piano player when he was young. But after he lost his mother, he could no longer hear his piano playing, despite his ears being fine. This forced him to give up his beloved piano until high school, when on a bright warm day in April, he met a violinist named Kaori. Through Kaori’s encouragement, Kousei was able to conquer his mental block, continue to play piano, and most importantly, fall in love with Kaori. While everything got better for Kousei, life played a cruel joke on Kaori: she was very ill.

“Do you think you will be able to forget? I’m not holding back. So that people who’ve heard me will never forget me. So that I can live in their hearts forever. That’s my reason for existing. I am a musician, after all! Just like you.” — Kaori Miyazono

Other thoughts: I was listening to Kreisler’s Liebesleid (Love’s Sorrow) while I was writing this article. Kaori and Kousei were supposed to play this song together on stage, but they were unable to because of Kaori’s health problems. Your Lie in April is a beautiful story, but it is also sorrowful, like the kind of love that Kaori had for Kousei. Even when she was very sick, she still tried to be brave and supportive. This love story took place in April between two talented teenagers. Maybe it was a lie, but it was the most beautiful lie.

Honorable Mentions: Itazula Kiss, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Ben Affleck's LIVE BY NIGHT and More Warner Bros. Films Get Official Release Dates

$

Ben Affleck's fourth directorial film, Live By Night, was delayed when he was sidelined by other jobs, but since he wrapped production on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he was able to devote more time to the movie and now Warner Bros. has given it an official release date. The period piece will hit theaters on October 20, 2017. The Prohibition-era story centers on a character named Joe Coughlin, "who rebels against his cop father and becomes a career criminal, eventually joining a mobster. He rises up the ranks as the action moves [from Boston] to Tampa, Fla., then Cuba and features rumrunners, femme fatales, betrayals and good men committing plenty of sin." Count me in.

Next up, WB dated its horror sequel Annabelle 2 for May 19, 2017, putting it head to head with Paramount's Baywatch film. We're still not sure exactly what the story is going to be for this film, other than that it will be based on the possessed doll that was found in the case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren (seen in The Conjuring).

New Line Cinema and Village Roadshow's comedy Fist Fight will hit theaters on February 17, 2017. That film stars Charlie Day, Ice Cube, and Christina Hendricks. Day plays a mild-mannered English teacher who is put to the test when a colleague (Cube) who thinks he is trying to get him fired challenges him to a fist fight after school. Fist Fight will battle it out against The Dark Tower, The Great Wall, and the third Maze Runner movie (if lead actor Dylan O'Brien recovers from his recent on-set injury quickly enough for production to resume in time to make that date).

The studio is also dating a mysterious "event film" for August 11, 2017 to go up against Sony's Emoji Movie, but I'm not certain what that film could be. It's too early for another Harry Potter, and the same is probably true for another DC Cinematic Universe film, so I'm not sure what other "event films" WB has in its possession...maybe another LEGO movie?
