Christopher Reeve's Superman Meets Michael Keaton's Batman in This Mashup Trailer

Here's a retro fan-made World's Finest mashup trailer in which Christopher Reeve's Superman teams up with Michael Keaton's Batman to fight the Joker and Lex Luthor. The video was created by YouTuber AdeelOfSteel, and I love that it honors the greatness of the Golden and Silver Age of comics when Batman and Superman were friends that worked together and not characters that kind of hate each other.

Sylvester Stallone Rumored to Be Cast in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

There’s a pretty cool rumor spreading on the internet that Sylvester Stallone has joined the cast of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The rumor originated at Daily News, which reports:

"Sylvester Stallone was caught on camera Friday heading to the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He is pictured holding a script, likely evidence of a role in the sequel to the 2014 blockbuster."

You can see a photo of him holding the script right here. He is leaving the Atlanta hotel where the cast of the highly anticipated Marvel sequel is staying. The site goes on to reveal that he got into a car that is usually assigned to Chris Pratt.

There’s a lot of interesting evidence here that points to the actor actually being in the film, but there is no official confirmation, so we are going to treat it as a rumor until it is confirmed.

There’s obviously no information on who he will be playing, but the report says that he only has a cameo in the film. If that’s the case, he’s most likely taking on the role of some kind of alien creature that could be CGI just like Nathan Fillion’s character in the first film

Set to the sweet sounds of Awesome Mixtape Vol. 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will continue the adventures of these galactic superheroes as they set out to find Peter Quill's father, who will most likely be played by Kurt Russell.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2  is being directed by James Gunn. The cast includes Pratt in the role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana as Gamora; Dave Bautista as Drax; Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker as Yondu; Karen Gillan as Nebula; and Sean Gunn as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Russell.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to hit theaters on May 5th, 2017.

There’s a new fan-made re-edit of the first Ghostbusters trailer that was released last week. This one features the music from the original film, it’s a lot tighter, it’s faster paced, and the comedy is presented better. So if you weren't a fan of the first trailer, then maybe this one will work better for you.

This is the second fan trailer that I’ve seen so far, and I imagine it won’t be the last. You can watch the first fan trailer that we posted last week here

VENOM Solo Film Is Set to Move Forward at Sony Pictures

Thanks to Marvel, Sony Pictures is on the path to bringing Spider-Man back in a way that we’ve never seen him before. Now that they have that figured out, they are setting their sights on other Spider-Man character franchises like Venom.

Before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released, the studio was developing a Venom film, most recently with screenwriter Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek) leading the charge. After The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fell below expectations the Venom movie fell into the abyss.

The project has found its way back into development, though, as the studio recently hired Dante Harper (Edge of Tomorrow) to write the script. The report says that the movie is being envisioned “as a franchise apart from and unrelated to the upcoming Spider-Man movie in the works with actor Tom Holland.” So, the movie is going to stand on its own.

Venom was introduced to the Marvel universe in 1988, and it created by writer David Michelinie and artists Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck. Venom is an alien symbiote that requires a human host to survive. The alien endows its human host with superpowers. During his run in the comics the character has been a villain who eventually turned into an antihero.

There’s no word on how the character will be presented to us in the film, but I imagine it would probably be easier to use the antihero version of the character, especially if they plan on building a franchise around him. It seems like it might be difficult to portray him as a villain because the movie won’t include Spider-Man, and you can’t have Venom be a villain without him fighting Spider-Man.

Venom made his big screen debut in the disappointing Spider-Man 3 in which he was played by Topher Grace. Before Kurtzman came jumped onto the project, the spin-off film had also been worked on by several other people over the years including writers and directors Gary Ross and Josh Trank. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool) also worked on a version of the script.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, who have been involved with all the Spider-Man properties, are producing and overseeing the project. They managed to get a solid screenwriter on board, and as a longtime fan of Venom, I’m excited to see what he does with it.

Deadpool Is a Hufflepuff and It’s “Deliberate Deadpool Canon”

“You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal. Those patient Hufflepuffs are true, And unafraid of toil.”

There was a comic page posted online about a week ago that features Deadpool dressed as a Harry Potter fan. On the page, he is waiting in line for the midnight release of the book Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Before he gets a chance to read it himself, some jerk-ass drives by in a car and spoils the ending of the book, and Deadpool is devastated.

As fans were able to point out, the robe Deadpool is wearing is yellow and black, which are the house colors of Hufflepuff. In case you were wondering if this was done on purpose, it was. Nick Filardi, the colorist of that issue, has come out and revealed the story behind the decision to make Deadpool a Hufflepuff.

"Fun fact: I'm the colorist for that story and originally made him a Gryffindor. We went back and forth on a couple rounds of corrections and the editors insisted Hufflepuff. That isn't a casual joke. That's deliberate Deadpool canon."

When asked why he wanted to make Deadpool Gryffindor, he said:

"I just assumed you know.... bravery? Takes guts to do what Deadpool does.”

Hufflepuff is the most inclusive among the four houses at Hogwarts. They value hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play. Patience might not be one of Deadpool’s strong suits, but he was dedicated enough to put in the hard work to track down the guy who spoiled Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for him and break his nose.

I think we need to see a Deadpool/Harry Potter crossover story. I’d love to see him take a teaching job at Hogwarts and fight Voldemort!

Batman Solo Film Could Be a Prequel Exploring His Tragic Past With Robin

$

We already know that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice picks up years after Batman has already been fighting crime in Gotham City. Batman has already gone through a lot of shit, and we know this from Robin’s suit being on display in the Batcave where Bruce Wayne will always see it and be reminded of what happened. In an interview with EW, Ben Affleck explains that Batman is starting to wonder if he’s ever really saved anyone:

“He’s projecting his own sense of failure, his own sense of disillusionment, his own cynicism onto Superman.”

What exactly did happen, though? We know that The Joker had something to do with it because of what the Joker clearly wrote on the suit. According to Geoff Johns, this is a story that we will get to see. Batman v Superman is laying the groundwork for upcoming movies, and Robin and Batman's tragic story will be explored. He says:

“We’ll be exploring that. No one says specifically the name of which Robin that is.”

To me, that suggests we could very well see a solo Batman movie that is a prequel. That movie is still in the development phase, though, and Affleck isn’t really thinking about it at the moment. The actor and director told EW:

“It’s in development, and right now I’m really focused on finishing Live By Night. That’s where my focus is, and I tend to be a one movie at a time guy. So, when I’m finished with this movie, I’ll then focus on my next movie and figure out what that will be.”

Affleck is already signed on to appear in the Justice League films, but as of right now he’s only co-writing the solo Batman movie that he may direct and may star in. He's not 100% locked in yet. It would make sense if they made a Batman prequel film. After all, that’s what they are doing with Wonder Woman, so why not throw a Batman prequel in the mix as well? I haven’t even seen Batman v Superman yet, but I’m still curious to know about the backstory of this version of Bruce Wayne. Affleck revealed that he’s seen some of Suicide Squad and said:

“I’ve seen stuff from Suicide Squad,* and I can tell you that movie really works. That movie is really, really cool and fun and awesome.”

Affleck’s Batman makes an appearance in that movie as well. I’m excited about the DC Extended Universe that Warner Bros. is developing! It seems like there’s a lot of cool stuff on the way.

DARTH MAUL: APPRENTICE Is a Must-Watch, Badass STAR WARS Fan Film

$

Damn! We've seen a few really great Star Wars fan films that have been released this year that include "Rebel Scum" and "Kara." Today we have another one to add to the collection. This one is called "Darth Maul: Apprentice," and it was awesomely produced, written, and directed by Shawn Bu.

One of the best things to come out of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was Darth Maul. He not only had a cool look, but the villain also had some major kick-ass fighting and lightsaber skills. It's awesome to see the character get some love in this short film that fantastically represents him.

The film isn’t based on any book or comic story arc. This is an original piece that features an action-packed lightsaber battle in which Darth Maul takes on a small group of Jedi Knights. I’ve gotta say… The fight choreography is impressive as hell! I think you’re all gonna love what you see here.

New CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Character Posters Feature Team Cap

With Captain America: Civil War coming out in a couple of months, Marvel is about to make their big marketing push on the film. Today we have a series of character posters featuring Team Cap. Those posters include Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evens), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

These aren't really the coolest posters in the world, but we'll start seeing better marketing materials in the coming weeks. You can bet we'll see a set of these featuring the heroes of Team Iron Man. Will one of them include out first look at Tom Holland as Spider-Man/Peter Parker? With the movie coming out soon, they've got to give us our first official look at that character soon... right?

The fact that Marvel has been able to keep Spider-Man's look under wraps for this long tells me that they actually do have the power to keep things a secret when they want to. I think most of everything that does get leaked about their movies is "allowed" to be leaked.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6th.

Charming Music Video Clip from the 1980s Set Film SING STREET - “The Riddle of the Model”

$

One of my favorite films to come out of the Sundance Film Festival this year was Sing Street. It was one of the most buzzed about films at the festival because it was just so damn good! The movie is set in Dublin in the 1980s and centers on a boy named Conor who starts a rock band. We have a clip for you to watch today that features one of the many styles of his band as they are shooting a music video for a song called “The Riddle of the Model.”

The movie was written and directed by John Carney, who previously brought us music-themed films such as Once and Begin Again. I loved both of those films, but Sing Street is my favorite of his so far. It had a great mix of comedy and drama, and I absolutely loved the '80s setting and the original music that was written for the film. You can read our review of the movie here, and this is the synopsis:

SING STREET takes us back to 1980s Dublin seen through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy named Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) who is looking for a break from a home strained by his parents' relationship and money troubles, while trying to adjust to his new inner-city public school where the kids are rough and the teachers are rougher. He finds a glimmer of hope in the mysterious, über-cool and beautiful Raphina (Lucy Boynton), and with the aim of winning her heart he invites her to star in his band's music videos. There's only one problem: he's not part of a band...yet. She agrees, and now Conor must deliver what he's promised - calling himself "Cosmo" and immersing himself in the vibrant rock music trends of the decade, he forms a band with a few lads, and the group pours their heart into writing lyrics and shooting videos. Inspired by writer/director John Carney's (ONCE, BEGIN AGAIN) life and love for music, SING STREET shows us a world where music has the power to take us away from the turmoil of everyday life and transform us into something greater.

Sing Street will get a limited theatrical release on April 15th. It a film that’s definitely worth check out if you get a chance.

ASSASSIN'S CREED Sequel with Michael Fassbender Is Already in Development

$

New Regency's first Assassin's Creed movie doesn't hit theaters until December, but the studio is already starting on developing the sequel. The news comes from The Tracking Board who says that Michael Fassbender is already on board to reprise his role.

Director Justin Kurzel previously worked with Fassbender on Macbeth with Marion Cotillard, who also stars in the movie. Fassbender plays a new character in the franchise named Callum Lynch, "a man who discovers that he’s the descendant of a secretive society of deadly assassins, who are at war with the Knights Templar. Through a machine, Lynch becomes able to tap into the memories of his ancestor Aguilar, an assassin in 15th century Spain. Commanding his ancestor’s incredible skills, ability, and knowledge, Lynch sets forth to take on the Knights Templar in the present."

Macbeth was such a heavily visual film, and because of that, I'm curious to see how the director brings this world of Assassin's Creed to the big screen. The studio obviously likes what they see if they are already pushing a sequel forward. This doesn't mean we'll see a sequel. The first movie will have to have been a box-office success to get the official greenlight. But, if the first film is a success, then 20th Century Fox will be ready to push a sequel into production quickly.

The reports don't say if the director will be back for Assassin's Creed 2, but they do say the rest of the production team is attached. The names mentioned on that team include Jean-Julien Baronnet, who is producing for Ubisoft Motion Pictures, and Frank Marshall, producing through his Kennedy-Marshall Company. Fassbender and Conor McCaughan are also producing through their DMC Films production company. Matt Phelps is set to oversee the project for Ubisoft, while Pam Abdy will oversee for New Regency.

I'm a big fan of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and I would love to see this movie succeed. Fassbender has said in the past that they have done something special with this film, and I can't wait to see what that is! The movie set to hit theaters on December 21st, 2016.

Harley Quinn's Original Jester Costume Almost Made it into SUICIDE SQUAD

When we got our first look at Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, a lot of fans were disappointed that the character wasn't wearing her signature black and red "Jester" outfit. It was different from anything that we had seen before, but I embraced the new look. I think it was expected that we were going to get something different, but apparently they almost didn't.

During an interview with HelloGiggles, Robbie said that they actually had a version of Harley’s original costume that she tried on for the movie, including several other versions that didn't make the final cut. She explained:

“We tried on every variation of the costume. I cannot emphasize enough how many outfits, and how many variations of the Harley Quinn costume we tried. We tried the court jester costume, we tried the corset and skirt, we tried leather pants, we tried literally every type of costume possible for her. I really love where we ended up. And who knows, maybe in the sequels we’ll go with the court jester one. I think there’s a world of possibilities.”

I think the look they ended up with works great, but I wouldn't complain if she ended up in the classic Jester outfit somewhere down the line in a sequel or something. It was recently revealed that Warner Bros. has already started developing a sequel, so we know that's going to be something to look forward to in 2017.

Maybe one day those photos of Robbie wearing all those different Harley Quinn costumes will leak out. I'd love to see how those other costumes look! Suicide Squad is scheduled to be released on August 5th, 2016.

J.K. Rowling Offers a Fascinating History of Magic in North America in 4 New Stories

The upcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will open up the Wizarding World of Harry Potter even more as it will take audiences on their first adventure to America and the wizards that reside there. Before that movie is released, though, J.K. Rowling will be releasing four new stories on Pottermore that will be published under the title "History of Magic in North America."

These stories will explore some fascinating history that will include topics such as The wizard school of the United States, which is called Ilvermorny; the Skin-walkers, which is a Native American legend of shapeshifting people; the Salem witch trials, a formative event for the country’s national magical identity; and the US version of the Ministry of Magic, which is the Magical Congress of the United States of America.

These are all exciting things to learn about, but I'm most interested in learning how the Skin-walkers and Salem witch trials fit into the Wizarding World that Rowling has created. Just the ideas behind those would make a whole new series of awesome novels that I hope Rowling writes one day.

The first “History of Magic in North America” story will be released tomorrow, March 8th, at 9 a.m., and we will get a new story every day until Friday, March 11th. You can watch a trailer that was released for these new stories below thanks to EW .

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released in theaters on November 18th.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Was Influenced by SE7EN and THE GODFATHER

I've been hearing nothing but great things about Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America: Civil War. According to people who have already seen it, it's the best Marvel movie so far. During a recent set visit, Comingsoon had the chance to talk to the directors about the film and what other movies influenced them as they were bringing this story to life.

They surprisingly drew inspiration from films such as David Fincher's Se7en and Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, as well as other espionage and conspiracy thrillers of the 1970s. Anthony Russo explains:

“In general, just as a framing we always thought about Winter Soldier very specifically as a political thriller. This movie we think of more as a psychological thriller. It’s connected to what we’re doing in Winter Soldier, but it evolves into a more sensitive, complicated character thriller. Again, I think based upon the fact we’re dealing with our protagonists clashing with one another.”

Joe Russo adds:

“The movie we’ve been referencing a lot on this one is Se7en, weirdly. We like smashing genres into each other, so if you can find something that’s really idiosyncratic in respect to superhero genre and you can smoosh it into it you usually wind up with something fresh and different. Se7en, Fargo, just as far as we’re not making comparisons in terms of quality, we’re just talking influences. The Godfather, because that’s a sprawling film with a lot of characters that tells very intricate stories. Each character has an arc."

That's so cool! I love those movies, so it's great to hear that they helped inspire what we will see in Civil War. Anthony goes on to mention director Brian De Palma as an influence. They previously talked about the influence he had on The Winter Solider, but it will carry on into this movie as well. He says:

“De Palma is the one carry over between both movies. Because he’s so good at tension and empty space.

They also referenced the western genre because of the character showdowns. It makes complete sense that they would look at westerns for this chapter in Captain America's story because the story obviously focuses on two teams of superheroes having a showdown.

Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6th, and this talk of the directors' influences got me even more excited to see what they've created for us!

Next TOMB RAIDER Film Will Be Inspired By RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and New Games

$

Last year we learned that Warner Bros. and MGM hired Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug to direct their reboot of Tomb Raider. This is the director behind the Norwegian disaster thriller The Wave, which actually looks like a great movie. We haven't heard much about the film project since Uthaug was brought on board, but during an interview with IGN, the director opened up a little bit about his vision for the film and what will influence it.

The first thing that the director confirmed was that this will give us an origin story for Lara Croft and that it will be similar to the 2013 video game reboot, which is something we've previously heard. He explained what he wants to do with the character, saying:

"I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that's definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well. I think we'll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I'm hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise."

I've been a fan of Tomb Raider since the first game was released in 1996. I spent way too much time playing this game. I'd never seen anything like it before! Uthaug is a fan of the game since it was released as well, which is why he's so excited to take it on. He said:

"I've always been a fan of strong female characters and I think I've had strong female characters in all my previous movies, so that's something I thought was interesting."

The director also discussed how he has always wanted to make an action-adventure film, and explained how Raiders of the Lost Ark influenced him to take on Tomb Raider:

"Raiders of the Lost Ark was one of my favorite films growing up, so it's definitely a dream to work in that kind of genre. I think we'll want to make it feel like a modern action movie and to make what's going on feel like it's going on for real."

One of my biggest complaints about the first could of Tomb Raider movies is that they didn't feel like an Indiana Jones film, and I think the film needs to have that. Indiana Jones set the standard for adventure movies! It sounds like Uthaug has an understanding of that.

The script for Tomb Raider is being written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Transformers 5), and I'm excited to see how it turns out.
