What happens when you remove all of the dinosaurs from Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park? You're left with just a park, that's what — but the characters of Dr. Grant, Dr. Sattler, and Dr. Malcolm are still humorously astonished at the pristine beauty of a simple, natural landscape. Visiting this place seems like a nice, pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

Keanu Reeves Teases JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO, Reveals Laurence Fishburne's Role

If Keanu Reeves was the only recognizable actor appearing in John Wick: Chapter Two, I'd still be stoked to see it. But as it turns out, Reeves will be surrounded by a solid cast, including a new addition to the franchise with whom the actor worked on one of the most iconic science fiction movies of all time: The Matrix. Laurence Fishburne has come on board, but until now, his role has been a complete mystery. But thanks to a new interview with IGN, Reeves himself talked up his once and future co-star and gave us a few more details on what to expect with the upcoming sequel:

“For us it was just what is the next chapter? What is the continuation of this story? Opening up the world – the underground world. The world behind the world in terms of the assassins. Kind of evolving the action – if the first one was a black belt, then this one is third degree black belt. It’s such a fun project and a great character.”

YES. They had to take it up a notch this time around, and it sounds like that's exactly what they've done. This one takes place in Rome, so they're going global with the action and I can't wait to see what the increased scope does for the worldbuilding. As for Fishburne's involvement, Reeves revealed that character's name:

“Laurence has this fantastic role as a character in the Underworld called The Bowery King. He plays such a great character in the piece and he brings of course humour, intelligence, charisma and fascination – he’s such an incredible actor and it was a pleasure to work with him again. And Peter Stormare – Stormare has more of a cameo in it but again he brings such fun and mystery and this mixture of groundedness and the surreal.”

The rest of the cast includes Ian McShane, Orange is the New Black's Ruby Rose, Riccardo Scamarcio (Burnt), Common (who's playing one of the villains), John Leguizamo, Bridget Moynahan, Tom Sadowski, and Lance Reddick.

John Wick: Chapter Two blows into theaters on February 10, 2017.

Josh Brolin and Miles Teller to Play Firefighters in Joseph Kosinski's Action Film NO EXIT

Joseph Kosinski has had some trouble getting projects off the ground in recent years, but the Tron: Legacy and Oblivion director has another potential movie in mind that's slowly inching toward the starting blocks.

Variety reports that Josh Brolin and Miles Teller have joined the cast of No Exit, a firefighter action thriller that "tells the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of firefighters that faced one of the deadliest wildfires in history in order to save an Arizona town, resulting in the tragic death of 19 crew members." There have been a handful of firefighter movies throughout history — The Towering Inferno, Backdraft, Ladder 49, etc. — but none in the past few years, so it's about time for that trend to reemerge like a phoenix (nailed it).

No start date has been scheduled for the production yet, though, so even though the fact that these two talented actors have come on board is a good sign, I'll wait until they physically start shooting to even start considering getting excited about this one.

CONVERGENCE — Interview with Director Drew Hall

I once had a graveyard shift job painting some rooms in an old hospital that was going through serious renovations. There’s always the supervisor or facility manager who just has to toss in that common story involving warnings like “don’t go in room (such and such)” or "if you hear any rattling down the hall, that’s just the janitor that died in there back in 1960-something." “Sure thing, boss!” was my usual response, as they never had to worry about me drawing any floor pentagrams or performing any seances when no one was looking. Really I just wanted to earn my paycheck and get the hell out of there and get home to play Oblivion and ponder how work sucks for a lot of people in their 20s. This life experience of working in an empty hospital came rushing back when I felt the paranormal unease that hangs over the majority of the atmosphere in Convergence by director Drew Hall.

The protagonist wakes up in an empty hospital after being attacked during a terrorist investigation. It’s immediately clear that he’s caught in the middle of something extremely sketchy with signs that the people running the joint have a fascination with the occult. Demonic apparitions begin making their presence known to him as many scenes play out in the corridors of an empty hospital, adding another element of dread to the situation.

It’s clear to see that Stanley Kubrick had a lot of influence in the use of visual flow of locations, as well as establishing the drama before introducing the horror. Old Hitchcock films and newer movies such as The Babadook also come to mind when it comes to this kind of pacing, which I highly appreciate. About an hour in, Convergence introduces a new layer into the story, kicking things into a brand new perspective on the situation. It was a huge payoff, and my enthusiasm was expressed to Hall via chat during that moment. As Hall’s first try as director and writer, this is a sign of amazing things to come for those who enjoy genre-bending films that reward your attention to detail.

In this interview, we talk about the making of the film as well as what films inspire him as a director. It's a definite must-listen for those who are fans of psychological thrillers, horror movies, and filmmaking in general!

Something is Coming: Great IMAX Poster For 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE

I'm really looking forward to 10 Cloverfield Lane, Bad Robot's upcoming Cloverfield sequel (that reportedly won't feature the same monster that terrorized NYC in the first movie). I have my expectations in check as to what kind of movie it will be — which seems very important for this particular film — but even if it's just a contained thriller without many noticeable connections to the original at all, I'm curious to watch the feature directorial debut of Dan Trachtenberg (former co-host of The Totally Rad Show and director of Portal: No Escape) and see what he does with that great cast (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman, and John Gallagher Jr).

In the meantime, /Film has debuted the poster at the top of this page, which is by artist Ape Meet Girl (real name: Kevin M. Wilson) that was created at the behest of IMAX and producer J.J. Abrams. I love the visual of Winstead's character trapped in the mailbox, and how this poster incorporates elements of the traditional one sheet as well. It's a really cool design.

10 Cloverfield Lane hits theaters on March 11th.

NINA Trailer: Zoe Saldana Becomes Nina Simone in Musical Biopic

A biopic of musician Nina Simone has been in the works for years, and Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe Saldana has finally brought it to life. Saldana stars in Nina, which takes the "slice of life" approach to the genre that has become commonplace after Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story skewered the cradle to the grave method. Nina joins Don Cheadle's Miles Ahead and Ethan Hawke's Born to Be Blue in this year's lineup of musical biopics.

Cynthia Mort makes her directorial debut with this film (she wrote it, too), which arrives in theaters on April 22. As far as pure looks go, I'd say SNL's Leslie Jones bears a better resemblance to the real woman than Saldana, but biopics aren't all about looks; it remains to be seen whether the actress will be able to do justice to the story of "The High Priestess of Soul." EW premiered the first poster, while Today has the first trailer:

Morgan Freeman Goes To Bat For Christian Bale's Batman, Doesn't Think Affleck Will Be Better

With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finally arriving in theaters this month three years after Man of Steel, fans are practically rabid with anticipation. But there's one person associated with the Batman franchise that's a little more measured about the whole thing: Morgan Freeman.

The former Lucius Fox recently spoke with ETOnline and expressed his doubt that the movie will be as good as Christopher Nolan's films and that new Batman Ben Affleck will be able to top Christian Bale's interpretation of the character:

"You know, I'm happy for Ben, but I don't know how that's gonna work. Because The Dark Knight was almost 'it.' Pretty much 'it.' Did you see Batman Begins? I don't think you can beat that."

I love that Freeman asks the reporter if she's seen Batman Begins, as if there was a chance that someone working in any aspect of the entertainment industry hasn't seen that movie by now. As for Bale himself, he says he's seen the trailers for Dawn of Justice and is looking forward to the movie — while also giving an appreciative nod to Freeman for backing his version of the World's Greatest Detective:

"Everyone brings their own element to that -- Ben [Affleck] will do that as well. I think the trailers are looking great and I'm looking forward to that. But right on for Morgan for saying no one will ever be that, I very much like him."

Thankfully we don't have much longer until we can start doing updated Bat-comparisons of our own. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters on March 25.

Pac-Man Pint Glass Changes Colors When Filled With Liquid

If you're looking for a cool gift for the old-school gamer in your life, or just looking to pick up a new addition to your own cupboard, you could do a lot worse than this Pac-Man pint glass from OddityMall. It starts out with all of its designs being white, but changes colors when cold liquid is added to the glass.

This Pac-Man drinking glass is made to change into color mode once it senses a cold liquid within the cup. By default the Pac-Man designs on the glass are all white, but once a cold liquid comes into contact with the print, it turns colorized, with all of the ghosts turning into their normal colors of pink, orange, red, blue, etc, the dots on the glass turning to yellow, the borders of the game turning blue, and even the fruit turning into their own colors. Once the cold liquid is gone or the liquid inside starts to warm up, the colors on the glass will begin to fade back to white until more cold liquid is added to the pint glass.

Looks like a nice way to throw back a few cold ones after a long day.

Ian McShane Set to Star in Neil Gaiman's AMERICAN GODS Series

Ian McShane is set to star in Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel American Gods. He will take on the role of Mr. Wednesday. The character is described as a "powerful and charismatic — a Casanova of sorts — who is a con man and an incarnation of All-Father Odin, who's traveling America recruiting his fellow forgotten deities to wage an epic battle against the new American gods." This is a role that is perfect for McShane and he's going to be awesome as this character. In a statement talking about McShane's involvement with the series, Gaiman said:

"When you write a beloved character (beloved with, or despite, or because of all his faults) like Mr. Wednesday, you get to watch the Internet trying to cast the role. I've seen a hundred names suggested, but few make me grin like Ian McShane does. I've already been lucky enough to have him in one film (he was bright blue in it, animated, and probably Polish). Now I count myself even luckier: he's made the journey from Lovejoy to American Gods. Yesterday was Super Tuesday. Today is Wonderful Wednesday."

The story focuses on "a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of biblical and mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon (Ricky White), is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities."

Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Hannibal) has been developing the series and he has previously said that it will be like the Marvel Universe with gods instead of superheroes. He explains:

"In success we may have spin-offs of American Gods that follow lesser gods in greater detail than you might in the main series, but there’s all sorts of potential for this show that we’re very excited about and I hope the audience is as enthusiastic as we are so we can bring those dreams to fruition."

Production on the series is scheduled to start in April and David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) is set to direct the pilot episode and some additional episodes. This series has potential to be epic and if anyone can pull off a great series, it's the team of talent currently developing it. Zack Snyder Discusses BATMAN V SUPERMAN and Says There's No Winning for Superman

$

With the release of the much-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice just around the corner we are going to be bombarded with interviews from the cast and director. So, here we go!

(WARNING! THIS POST MAY BE CONSIDERED SPOILERISH! So, if you are anti-spoiler then stop reading and enjoy the next post.)

In two different interviews, director Zack Snyder has talked about his upcoming film. The first is with DC ALL ACCESS discussing what the mindset of the three main characters will be in this film. First up, Superman:

"Over the last two years he's basically been Superman as pop culture would know him. He's been righting wrongs, there have been floods, mines have collapsed, bridges have collapsed, churches have caught on fire. He's basically been a hero. When we find him, he's been dealing with the everyday world of being a superhero, but there's a paradigm shift happening in that the unintended consequences of some of those rescues are starting to come into fruition. He's starting to see that every action has a reaction. Like, if you're just taking a cat out of a tree, you can't touch anything or the arborists will say, 'He damaged the tree branch when he got the cat down.' Or, 'The cat wasn't neutered, so now there's thousands of cats.' There's no winning anymore for Superman."

Now Batman:

"It's interesting to see how Batman perceives Superman, because he doesn't know who Superman is. All he knows is the public face of Superman. And if you have an idea about someone or if you start to doubt someone's intentions, you can always read in the media, you can always see the face that you want to see, based on how it's reported. Batman's seen the destruction of Metropolis. That's the thing he knows for a fact. So if thousands die, is that okay? What's next? Millions? Is everyone okay with that? Because I'm not. That's Batman's point of view."

And now for a little about the choice of Jesse Eisenberg for the infamous Lex Luthor:

"Jesse's done a really cool job with Lex in making him contemporary and multi-dimensional. He's smart, he's difficult to place, he's all the things you want from a villain, in the sense that when you think you've got him figured out, he reveals something else about him."

When the cast of this movie was announced I was not very excited. However, now I have changed my stance and am actually eagerly anticipating this film.

The second interview comes from Wired magazine via Superman Homepage. In the interview he touches again on the mindset of the heroes. Check it out:

"To me, the killing of Zod is not as big a deal as the destruction of Metropolis," said Snyder. "It's important that these movies have consequences, that there is collateral damage. In Batman v Superman I wanted to show how Bruce Wayne feels when reduced to a sideline sitter. Batman is frightened by his impotence in the face of that."

He also talks about his need to base these individuals with extraordinary powers in reality:

"We've been strict with our rules. What they can do - Batman, Superman, Flash, Cyborg - we really are hard on ourselves because we want all those things to have a reality, a mythological grounding."

For those of you who didn’t know, Mythology = Reality.

He finishes with how he sees Wonder Woman:

Female empowerment is a thing I've gone after in all my films. They all have strong female representation. It's about time Wonder Woman was represented correctly.

I don’t care what the dude says, I am still stoked to see this movie.

Bryan Singer Reportedly Developing R-Rated RED SONJA Series

$

I’ve been a fan of Red Sonja for a long time, and I’ve been waiting to see the character get a new live action adaptation for years. Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in a Red Sonja film back in 1985, and there have been plans for a new film since 2008. At that time Robert Rodriguez was attached to develop it with Rose McGowan, then Simon West was going to take it on with Amber Heard in the lead role. The last year I heard, Christopher Cosmos (Game of Thrones) was hired to write a new script. There’s been no news on the project since.

Now Bleeding Cool is reporting some news from a “reliable source” that director Bryan Singer is currently developing an R-rated TV series adaptation that will bring the “She-Devil with a Sword” to life. This is one of those series that could potentially land on HBO, Netflix, Starz, or any of those cable or streaming services.

I was really excited for a new movie, but I’d gladly watch a badass TV series! The report goes on to explain that the owner of the property, Luke Lieberman, is an executive producer along with Singer’s production company Bad Hat Harry. On top of that, Singer is reportedly going to direct it. This is all just a rumor at this point. If it is true, there's no word on if Singer will do it before or after 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Red Sonja made her comic debut in Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian #23 back in 1975 from writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith. She was loosely based on Red Sonya of Rogatino in Robert E. Howard's 1934 short story "The Shadow of the Vulture."

Red Sonja is the greatest swordswoman of the Hyborean Age and more than a match for any man in combat. She has become the archetypal example of the strikingly beautiful warrior woman clad in her iconic bikini-like armor.

This 1976 STAR TREK Convention Was Captured on Video and It’s Amazing!

The video you are about to watch is a segment from a local news station in Denver, Colorado, that gives us a look at what a Star Trek convention was like in 1976. The convention was held at the Northglenn Mall in Colorado, and as you’ll see, Star Trek fans haven’t really changed much.

One of the earliest Star Trek conventions occurred in 1976 at the Northgenn Mall in Denver Colorado in Fall of 1976. Only 7 years after the series ended, Star Trek already had a very strong cult following in the US and even abroad. There were small fan clubs popping up all over the world, so after a while it had such momentum that someone began organizing these gatherings into conventions... At homes, schools, malls, they eventually had to rent large convention halls to accommodate the throngs of devoted 'trekkies'.

The reporter in the video is unintentionally hilarious, and you get to see cool props, models, art, and cosplay. It even includes shots of Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and James Doohan (Scotty). It’s always fun to see how passionate Star Trek fans are, but to see what that fandom was like in 1976 is pretty damn cool.

Ridley Scott Producing Thrilling New Anthology Series THE TERROR for AMC

AMC is moving forward with the development of a new anthology series called The Terror, and this sounds like it’s going to be an awesome show! The series is based on a novel written by Dan Simmons, and the script will be written by David Kajganich (True Story, A Bigger Splash).

According to Variety, the series is set in 1847, and it centers on a “Royal Naval expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage.” In the process, they are attacked by “a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and their crew in a suspenseful and desperate game of survival.”

Ridley Scott and his Scott Free Productions are producing the series, which has received an order of 10 hourlong episodes from AMC. As of right now, they are looking at premiering The Terror in 2017, and they’ve hired Kajganich to be a co-showrunner on the series with Soo Hugh (The Killing). Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV had this to say in a statement:

“We’ve been focused on developing this incredible story for television with these great partners for a couple of years, and we think it provides rich dramatic material but also an opportunity to explore the anthology format, which is something we’re extremely interested in and offers some unique possibilities. Originality is still something that gets our attention every day, and the very unique mixing of historical non-fiction with a gripping and imaginative science fiction overlay in Dan’s novel is something that we hadn’t seen before. That, combined with an exceptional team behind the project made this something we really wanted to bring to air on AMC.”

Kajganich added:

“Dan’s novel is that rare combination of fascinating actual history, ground-breaking genre storytelling, and the complex character work of literature. The chance to launch a series that will incorporate all of these elements going forward, and with a team of this caliber, is extraordinary.”

With AMC and Ridley Scott leading the charge on the series, there’s no doubt it going to be a top quality production, and I’m excited to see how it turns out. Here’s the official book description:

The men on board HMS Terror have every expectation of finding the Northwest Passage. When the expedition's leader, Sir John Franklin, meets a terrible death, Captain Francis Crozier takes command and leads his surviving crewmen on a last, desperate attempt to flee south across the ice. But as another winter approaches, as scurvy and starvation grow more terrible, and as the Terror on the ice stalks them southward, Crozier and his men begin to fear there is no escape. A haunting, gripping story based on actual historical events, The Terror is a novel that will chill you to your core.
