This Art Is Everything SPIDER-MAN 3 Wasn't

What can I say about this art by Lady Orange that I can't say about Spider-Man 3? It shows an epic struggle, it's awesome, it doesn't involve the hitting of pipes and church bells or Tobey Maguire dancing. Yeah, that's about it really. I'm a big fan of Lady Orange's work, and you will be too when you check her out!

Stephen King Confirms Idris Elba For THE DARK TOWER and New Film Details Revealed

It's hard to believe that after all these years, Stephen King's The Dark Tower series is actually going to start shooting soon. This film production has had a long history of ups and downs, but it's finally happening, and I couldn't be more excited to see Roland’s harrowing journey to the Dark Tower come to life on the big screen.

King recently confirmed on Twitter that Idris Elba will in fact play Roland in the film, and that was followed by a couple tweets from Elba and Matthew McConaughey, who is playing the film's villain.

Then there's an interview on EW in which King and director Nikolaj Arcel talk about the film. During that interview Arcel reveals that the first film in the series will start shooting in South Africa in seven weeks. He also talked about casting Elba and McConaughey as the film's hero and villain.

“What Stephen King does best is mixing the everyday, or what you might call the mundane, with the fantastical. In my view, [The Dark Tower] novels are a mix between sci-fi and fantasy and modern times. That exact mix is so Stephen King.”

King went on to reveal that the movie will open with the first line from The Gunslinger, but that the film will jump into the middle of the story instead of starting with the first book. He understands that this might upset some fans, saying:

“[The movie] starts in media res, in the middle of the story instead of at the beginning. Which may upset some of the fans a little bit, but they’ll get behind it, because it is the story.”

Arcel added that a lot of the film takes place "in our day, in the modern world." This could mean that the film is based on the third book in the series, The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands, which sees Roland making an attempt to bring a young boy named Jake into their world from New York City. I guess we'll have to wait and see what exactly they are doing with this story. Remember this is only the first of three films and a TV series that Sony Pictures is developing for The Dark Tower, so they will be able to tell a good amount of the full story.

As far as casting Elba goes, the director explained:

“For me, it just clicked. He’s such a formidable man. I had to go to Idris and tell him my vision for the entire journey with Roland and the ka-tet. We discussed, who is this character? What’s he about? What’s his quest? What’s his psychology? We tried to figure out if we saw the same guy. And we absolutely had all the same ideas and thoughts. He had a unique vision for who Roland would be.”

Arcel then talked about casting McConaughey, saying:

“Matthew is an incredible actor who can do anything. That’s how I feel about Walter Padick. He could do anything…He is this timeless sorcerer, and being a Stephen King fan, I’ve read and experienced Walter in various iterations. He has a very interesting way of seeing the world. He sees it with a sort of delight, even though he is obviously on the wrong side of the light-and-dark spectrum. He’s someone I’ve been having a lot of fun with.”

The movie is set to be released on January 13th, 2017, and we can expect to see even more announcements about the film in the near future, so stay tuned! While we wait for that, tell us what you think about what King and Arcel said in this interview.

DEADPOOL Director Says "That Wasn't THE Helicarrier," But Really We Know What's Up

Tim Miller is doing the old saying one thing, but winking as he says it when asked about the mysterious Helicarrier present in Deadpool. Comicbook is saying Miller made the following statement...

"No, it's clearly not the Helicarrier," Miller said with a smirk to Collider. "I just want to say for the record, there's a lot of groups in the Marvel universe who use flying combat platforms. It's not just the Helicarrier. A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) has some. It could have been anything but a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Because that would be outside of the purview of the Fox/Marvel arrangement."

So yeah it is the Helicarrier, but for legal reasons it's not. I wish we could go back in time and slap whomever made the decision to separate the Marvel brand in terms of film franchises? I get tired of all this legalese between film studios!

Ben Affleck Hides in the Batmobile and Confronts Fans Who Say Superman Is Better

Of all the Omaze videos we have seen thus far, this one is my favorite. Ben Affleck hides in the batmobile during a WB tour and confronts fans who say Superman is better than Batman. I think what gets me laughing the hardest is he doesn't do this as Batman, but as Ben Affleck! Imagine the batmobile opens and you see The Dark Knight staring you down. You'd probably freak out and be like "whoaaaa."

Instead you get Ben Affleck going, "Hey man, wtf?!" I don't know why it's making me laugh so much, but it is. Omaze is still holding their competition to win a red carpet experience for Batman v Superman with Batman, Superman, or Lex Luthor. Enter it here!

The Lonely Island's New Movie Gets An Official Title and Poster

Comedians/musicians The Lonely Island — Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer — have been working on a top secret movie for a while now, snagging Judd Apatow as a producer last year. Until last night, the project had simply been known as Top Secret Untitled Lonely Island Movie, but Samberg debuted the first poster and the movie's official title on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

It's called Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, and it's a fake documentary about a fake rapper named Conner4Real (Samberg) who has to reunite with his former boy band. Check out the official press release below:

Universal Pictures’ POPSTAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING is headlined by musical digital-shorts superstars Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, collectively known as The Lonely Island.  The comedy goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all.
The latest comedy from blockbuster producer Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, Superbad, Knocked Up) co-stars Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows and Maya Rudolph and many of the biggest names in comedy and music in cameo performances.  Co-directed by Schaffer and Taccone and written by The Lonely Island trio, POPSTAR is also produced by Rodney Rothman (producer of Get Him to the Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall; co-writer of 22 Jump Street), as well as Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone.

This sounds great to me, and with Schaffer and Taccone co-directing, that means the minds behind MacGruber and Hot Rod are combining their powers to hopefully bring us a movie that should have a ton of visual gags and great moments. Now let's just hope all of the cameos aren't spoiled before the movie hits theaters.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping opens on June 3rd.

ROGUE ONE Star Diego Luna Will Be Resurrected in FLATLINERS Remake

Having wrapped up work on the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, actor Diego Luna (Milk, Elysium, Contraband) has joined the cast of the remake of the 1990 film Flatliners.

The Wrap reports that Luna will star opposite Ellen Page, and he'll play one of two men in a core group of medical students who essentially learn how to kill themselves and bring themselves back from the dead (and as you can imagine, things become pretty complicated from there). The original movie starred four men and one woman — Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt, and Julia Roberts — but this version will rework the ratio a little and feature two men and three women, and it's "expected to be more inclusive and international" than the original.

Production starts this summer under the direction of Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Mr. Robot), from a script written by Source Code's Ben Ripley. Are you excited to see a new iteration of this story on film?

Malaysian makeup artist and mother of two Saraswati has created a unique way to use her makeup skills and hijabs to cosplay as Disney characters. Alice, Mulan, and Tinker Bell are just a few of her impressive creations.

I’ve seen a lot of Disney cosplay over the years, ranging from steampunk to regular and everything in between, but I think this is the best I’ve seen so far. It's also the most unique twist for cosplaying these classic animated characters.

If you want to follow her she goes by Queen of Luna on Instagram, where she already has many, many followers.

Nickelodeon is Reviving LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE and HEY ARNOLD as TV Movies

$

As the pendulum of youth culture's nostalgia continues to swing away from the 1980s and slide firmly into the area of the '90s, Nickelodeon is seeking to capitalize on that by bringing back two of its beloved television shows in the form of TV movies. Variety reports that the network is working on a live-action adaptation of Legends of The Hidden Temple, the classic game show that aired from 1993-1995.

In “Hidden Temple,” three siblings must conquer a series of obstacles to remain alive, mirroring the theme of the original game show. The TV movie, slated to appear in the fourth quarter of 2016, will nod to other elements from the original show, including Olmec, a talking head who knows the secrets behind the temple; the Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad for the mission; and cameos from a green monkey, red jaguar and silver snakes, among others. Isabela Moner, known from her role on Nick’s “100 Things to Do Before High School,” will star. The “Arnold” movies are slated to appear in 2017.

And if that isn't enough to scratch your nostalgic itch, Nickelodeon is also bringing back Hey Arnold! as a two-part TV movie, though it's unclear whether any members of the original voice cast will return to reprise their roles or whether the original creators will be involved in any way. I have fond memories of the show, even at one point proclaiming to my wife that it's one of the 50 best shows in TV history. After she rolled her eyes and calmly started listing dozens of other amazing shows, I had to sheepishly admit that I overvalued the series in the heat of the moment; while I acknowledge that being in the top 50 shows of all time is probably ridiculous, it's tough to deny Hey Arnold! was consistently producing terrific, high quality episodes throughout its entire run.

The biggest question I have about this news is this: will fans tune into Nickelodeon to actually watch these TV movies? Are they just going to be excited about them in theory, or will they really devote time to tracking down more information about when exactly they'll air (again, Hidden Temple is scheduled for sometime in late 2016, while Hey Arnold! will be in 2017) and make time to tune in? What do you think?

Seth Meyers Parodies MAD MAX: FURY ROAD in REASONABLE MAX

Mad Max: Fury Road took home way more Oscars than I thought it would this past weekend, and Late Night host Seth Meyers paid loving tribute to the movie in a new sketch called Reasonable Max. He plays a War Boy who points out the logical flaws in guzzling gasoline on the way to retrieve gasoline, and tries to convert Immortan Joe into a more eco-conscious warlord by offering up an alternative method of travel that doesn't go over very well.

Steven Soderbergh Executive Producing Western Limited Series GODLESS at Netflix

I'm on a big western kick right now, so when any information about new westerns pops up, it piques my curiosity. But when a project has people like Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank are involved, it has my full attention. The two worked together on the crime drama Out of Sight before Frank moved on to write Minority Report and The Wolverine, also writing and directing The Lookout and A Walk Among The Tombstones. (Soderbergh's impressive list of credits needs no recap — you know them already.) Now THR reports that the duo is reuniting for a limited series at Netflix called Godless, a western set in 1884 that will span six one-hour episodes. Soderbergh will executive produce, while Frank will write and direct.

While THR and most other outlets don't have any more information on the series than that, Frank actually spoke with Collider about the project many years ago and gave them a great rundown of the plot:

"It is essentially the story of a severely wounded outlaw who ends up in this mining town in New Mexico, where all the able-bodied men have died in the mine. It’s run all by women. He ends up on a ranch just outside of town with the one woman the other women have ostracized and who’s nursing him back to health. Who he realizes are coming after him are his old gang members or fellow outlaws, laying waste to every town they come to, and you realize they’re coming here soon and it’s really that’s sort of the bare bones of the plot. It would be like me telling you 'The Lookout' is about a guy who robs a bank. It’s all about these characters and the relationships between all these people, and his relationship with the guy who’s coming for him. It all comes to a head in the middle of this town full of women."

That sounds absolutely fantastic, and as someone who's somewhat obsessed with westerns right now, I'm grinning like an idiot at the thought of seeing it. Production starts soon in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

STAR WARS Helmets Made Out of Recycled Metal

Remember how cool it was seeing Darth Vader's burned, twisted helmet show up for the first time in the early teasers of Star Wars: The Force Awakens? The iconography of helmets in the Star Wars universe is strong, and Schwark Metal is making its own helmets inspired by those from a galaxy far, far away...except these are made out of recycled metal. Helmets for Vader, Boba Fett, and Kylo Ren have been created so far. Pretty cool, huh?

Trailer For The UFO Film THE PHOENIX INCIDENT and Exclusive Motion Posters

trailer-for-the-ufo-film-the-phoenix-incident-and-exclusive-motion-poster

Do you remember the crazy UFO sightings in Phoenix, Arizona back in 1997? It was a huge deal, as it's the largest UFO sighting in North America. It became known as the Phoenix Incident, and now there's a movie being released that's based on this unexplained event called The Phoenix Incident. We have a trailer for the film for you to watch below, along with five motion posters.

I've always been fascinated with the history of UFOs and those lights hovering over Phoenix were pretty damn interesting. I have no idea if UFOs are real or not, but the stories, videos, pictures, and interviews sure make for some interesting subject matter. Here's the synopsis for the upcoming film:

Blurring the line between fiction and reality, the fact based, sci-fi thriller revolves around a military conspiracy and the controversial missing person’s case surrounding the infamous 1997 event. With the support of the victims’ families, along with classified military documentation, cockpit recordings, Air Force pilot interviews, actual FLIR footage, and first-hand recovered video evidence, The Phoenix Incident exposes the military’s engagement with extraterrestrial contact, and the collateral damage of 4 civilians.

The movie was written and directed by Keith Arem, and this is his debut feature film. He has a background in the video game industry, though, and has worked on games that include Call of Duty, Titanfall, Saints Row, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, and more. The film also stars famed gaming actor Troy Baker

The Phoenix Incident will be released through Fathom Events on March 10th. Below the trailer, you'll find five motion posters and a description for each one.

These four men have been reported missing since March 14th 1997, a day after the infamous "Phoenix Lights." Years later, "The Phoenix Incident" film is finally shedding light on what happened that night, possibly revealing a massive government coverup that extends far beyond these four men. Marshall Applewhite, leader of the infamous cult "The Heaven's Gate" called for his cult members to commit suicide during the late 90's around the passing of the ale Bopp Comet -- the closeness to the Phoenix Lights could not have been a coincidence.

Watch: Spike Jonze's Latest Short Film Stars Stephen Colbert and Grover From SESAME STREET

Filmmaker Spike Jonze — the guy who brought us Her, Being John Malkovich, Where The Wild Things Are, and Adaptation — was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night to talk about the launch of the new TV channel Viceland. To switch things up a little, he asked if he could make a short film for the show, so in place of the regular intro, this video kicked off the program:

I like the inexplicable inclusion of a Sesame Street character, and seeing Colbert in a context like that made me wonder if he'd be interested in pursuing acting in movies or TV shows outside of the late night or talk show formulas. If you're interested in what Jonze had to say on the show, I've embedded his interview below:

THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE International Trailer Finally Made Me Understand Why This Movie Exists

$

Ever since it was announced that an Angry Birds movie was in development, my only thought about it has been "why?" (Aside from just trading in on the sheer name recognition as a way to make money, of course.) A movie based on such a simple mobile game seemed incredibly unnecessary to me, and I didn't think writers would be able to come up with a worthwhile way to translate those game mechanics into a story worth telling on the big screen.

Whether or not the story is worth telling remains to be seen, but at least this new international trailer for The Angry Birds Movie has given me a better sense of why someone might pay to see this film. By revealing the larger scope of the action and giving these characters real motivation, it's actually starting to resemble a normal narrative, which I honestly wasn't sure was something the studio cared to achieve. It still hasn't completely sold me and made me excited about seeing the movie, but now at least I get what they're going for.

The Angry Birds Movie opens in the UK on May 13th and in the United States on May 20th.
