Turns out the first trailer was just a taste of what to expect this season in Daredevil! This new trailer features The Hand, Elektra, and lots of kick-ass action! We are, sadly, shown very little of Frank Castle this time around, but I guess we need to leave a little mystery! It's just awesome to know we have a lot more going on this season!

If you somehow missed the first season two trailer, check it out right here.

New Daredevil premieres March 18th on Netflix!

FINAL DESTINATION Was Originally Envisioned as an X-FILES Episode

Here’s an interesting bit of movie trivia for you. The 2000 film Final Destination was originally a concept for an episode of The X-Files that was pitched to Fox by writer Jeffrey Reddick.

The info was revealed by Reddick himself during an interview with Bloody Disgusting. The title of the episode was “Flight 180,” and it involved Agents Mulder and Scully investigating the notion of people cheating death. The writer said:

“I think fans will be most interested in seeing how the kernel of the concept started in 1994. Death worked differently in this version. Since Mulder and Scully had the believer/skeptic relationship, I had to keep Death vague enough, but clear enough, to fit the concept and investigation in to a one-hour show."

Reddick wrote the episode on spec. Fox did ask him to write it, but he gave it to his agent to try and get it in front of the eyes of X-Files creator Chris Carter. Obviously the episode didn’t happen, but he sure did start a lucrative film franchise! He explained what he had envisioned for the episode, saying:

“I decided to use the basic concept of people cheating Death as the catalyst. But when you write a spec for a series, you want to follow the framework of the show and go deeper. So, I had Scully’s brother have the premonition, which made the story more personal. I won’t spoil the rest, but for the spec script, the concept isn’t front and center, it’s more about Scully, Mulder and her relationship with her brother."

For those of you who want to read the full script for “Flight 180,” click here. It’s actually really freakin’ good and would have made a fantastic X-Files episode!

A Scientist Plays With Magic in Fun Sci-Fi Short Film THE ADEPT

a-scientist-plays-with-magic-in-fun-sci-fi-short-film-the-adept

The first time I saw "The Adept" was at the FilmQuest Film Festival last year. That short is now available to watch online, and what I love about it is that it plays with both magic and sci-fi, which are two things that I’m really into. The short film was written and directed by Adam Stern for Artifex Studios and this is the brief synopsis:

A scientist with a passion for magic gets more than he bargains for when performing a new card trick.
The Adept is a sci-fi short that explores the connections between science, magic, and our understanding of reality.

This is a really well-made film, and I thought the concept was wonderfully executed. I think you’ll all enjoy what this film has to offer, so make sure to check it out when you get a chance!

Sarah Michelle Gellar Set to Reprise Her Role in CRUEL INTENTIONS TV Series

NBC is currently developing a pilot for a Cruel Intentions TV series, and Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to reprise her role as Kathryn Merteuil from the original 1999 film. Gellar made the announcement herself on Instagram with the following message:

"That's right 'everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way'#kathrynmerteuil is back!!! I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and @nbctv ) on the new #Crueltv"

She is set to appear in the pilot episode, and if a full season gets ordered she will be a series regular. I think it's pretty awesome that the actress was willing to reprise her role. I've been a fan of Gellar since her days as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but since then the stuff she's been involved with has been hit and miss. THR offers the following information on the show:

"NBC's Cruel Intentions picks up more than 15 years after the 1999 movie left off. The drama follows the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil (Gellar) as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith), son of her brother, the late Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove. Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined."

The report offers a description of Gellar's character in the series "as a master manipulator who easily hides her self-serving machinations behind a facade of charm, poise and warmth." It goes on to say:

"The woman behind the scandal involving Bash's mother, Annette Hargrove, Kathryn is now married to the wealthy Pascal Barrett and spearheads an inspiring youth rehabilitation movement, as well as being involved in a local private school. The stepsister of Sebastian Valmont, Kathryn is privately shaken by the arrival of Sebastian's son, Bash, and the re-appearance in her life of the girl she wronged years ago, Annette Hargrove Casey. A force of nature, Kathryn has many secrets in her life."

The series was created by the film's original writer-director Roger Kumble as well as producer Neal H. Moritz. I liked the film, so I'm interested to see how this series sequel turns out. Here's what Gellar posted on her Instagram page. What do you all think about her reprising her role?

#throwbackthursday (a bit early in Los Angeles) this picture was taken on the eve of production on the original #cruelintentions. Its me #rogerkumble (director) and #nealmoritz (exec producer) and the other is a picture of us now on the eve of production on the new #cruelintentions. That's right "everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way" #kathrynmerteuil is back!!! I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and @nbctv ) on the new #Crueltv

After releasing an intriguing teaser for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones, HBO is now viciously playing with our patience by releasing several new character posters. In the trailer released last week we saw Tyrion and others in the Hall of Faces, which was a bit unexpected, I have to admit. I managed to notice a few others and as shocked as I was, now I’m 100% sure that what I saw wasn’t my mind playing tricks on me. But see for yourself what I am talking about.

Below you can check out what HBO have up their sleeves...

Author Of AMERICAN PSYCHO Tells Us Where Patrick Bateman Would Be Today

Bret Easton Ellis, the author of the book that became cult movie American Psycho, did this awesome editorial piece on his legacy in Town And Country. In it, Ellis reminisces on the 25 years it's been since he penned the book, and where we might find Patrick Bateman today...

I often thought that this was a time Bateman could have also thrived in, especially with the advent of new technologies that could have aided him in his ghoulish obsession with murder, execution, and torture—and in ways to record them. And sometimes I think that if I had written the book in the past decade, perhaps Bateman would have been working in Silicon Valley, living in Cupertino with excursions into San Francisco or down to Big Sur to the Post Ranch Inn and palling around with Zuckerberg and dining at the French Laundry, or lunching with Reed Hastings at Manresa in Los Gatos, wearing a Yeezy hoodie and teasing girls on Tinder. Certainly he could also just as easily be a hedge-funder in New York: Patrick Bateman begets Bill Ackman and Daniel Loeb.

He does such a great job of selling it I'm already on board for another one (after 2... 2 was awful)! Also did we just confirm that Bateman really did kill everyone in the film, and it wasn't in his head? I never read the novel, so I don't know how it differs from the film.

The Memory Crystals in SUPERMAN Are Now a Reality

"I found...this crystal...uh...this is kind of hard to explain. It...called to me. It brought me here. It built this place." So go the words of Christopher Reeve in Superman II, in which he explains how the memory crystals held all the information he needed to build his fortress of solitude.

While scientists may be far off from launching our latest technology into water and turning it into a badass fortress, they have perfected the memory crystal in a very impressive way. The Creators Project writes that researchers at The University of Southampton’s Optoelectronics Research Center have created 5D crystal storage.

These small, cylindrical discs are capable of storing 360 TB (1 TB=500 hours of film) for about 13 billion years at 130 degrees Celsius (233 degrees F). That's longer than our sun has to live!

Obviously, the implications for this are staggering. This means humanity will be able to store data indefinitely for future generations, for travel to other planets, even to reopen Steven Avery's case (if Mantiwoc County will allow for it next millennia).

Super cool technology here, guys. I can only wonder what we will do with it.

16 Fun Facts About GALAXY QUEST

Galaxy Quest is one of those films that I can watch over and over again. I will never get tired of this movie. It’s not just a hilarious Star Trek parody, but it’s also just an awesome movie overall that entertains in every way.

I’m surprised I haven’t done a fun facts list on it yet, but I’ll remedy that now. I would actually love to see a Galaxy Quest sequel. It’s something the original cast would be up for. Instead, we’re getting an Amazon TV series. Hopefully, it will be good!

While we wait for any additional details on that, here are 16 fun facts about Galaxy Quest.

The following information was found on IMDb, but I’ve added my own commentary as well as images and video to show some things off.

  • Sam Rockwell based the portrayal of his character on Bill Paxton's performance in Aliens. You can see that influence on his hysterical fear of being killed and his mental collapse upon seeing a motion detector that shows their enemy closing in on them. You can enjoy some of his best moments below.
  • Director Dean Parisot and star Tim Allen have said that the original tone of the film was supposed to be much darker. It was supposed to have more scenes of violence. After test screenings, though, the film was recut to focus on the comedy and get a PG rating, which I think was the best choice.
  • The scene in which Allen is in a men's room overhearing how the cast of Galaxy Quest are nobodies and all the costars can't stand him is similar to an experience William Shatner had. He discovered the exact same things about himself when he attended a Star Trek convention.
  • Galaxy Quest was one of the earliest films to have its own internet domain and web-site, GalaxyQuest.com. It doesn’t exist anymore, but you can see an image from it below. The site was made to look like a fan page to keep in line with the fan theme of the story.
  • When the film was released in theaters is was presented at 1.85:1 ratio for the first twenty minutes. Then when Allen first realizes he's on a real spaceship and the vista of Thermia is revealed, the screen image widened to a 2.35:1 ratio. I never noticed that!
  • This was Justin Long and Rainn Wilson’s big screen debut.
  • Sigourney Weaver didn’t know that Rockwell’s Guy character was going to scream in terror the way he did when the crew arrives on the ship via the  'pods' and he sees the Thermians without their human appearance generators. You can actually see her very real reaction at that moment in the video below:
  • The N.S.E.A. Protector's serial number is N.T.E. 3120. The N.T.E. stands for Not The Enterprise.
  • The rock monster is a mock tribute to Shatner. He desperately wanted to have rock monsters in the climax of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, but they had to be cut out due to budget constraints.
  • "On the rock planet, Lt. Laredo chides Dr. Lazarus for holding his tracking device upside down, claiming that he actually thought Dr. Lazarus' character was "smart or something" by the way he was leading the group to find the nearest Beryllium sphere, before realizing he was using the device incorrectly. This is a subtle reference to the first season of the original Star Trek, where Mr. Spock often held his tricorder upside down due to Leonard Nimoy being not yet familiar with the prop."
  • According to the writer of the film, David Howard, the continuously melodic and monotone voice of Thermian Commander Mathesar was an original idea that Enrico Colantoni brought to the character. Everyone on the set loved it so much they kept it.
  • Harold Ramis was originally supposed to direct the film, and he wanted to cast Alec Baldwin in the lead role. Steve Martin and Kevin Kline were also considered, but the role went to Allen and Ramis ended up not directing.
  • The design for Sarris' starship is a cross between the designs for the Planet Killer from Star Trek: The Doomsday Machine (notably the massive, glowing maw in the front of the ship) and a D'deridex-class Romulan warbird from Star Trek: The Next Generation (the open design of the rear nacelles).
  • Rockwell almost backed out after winning the lead role in an independent film, but Kevin Spacey convinced him to stay on. That was a great call! Spacey saves the day! I can’t imagine this movie without Rockwell.
  • The design of the Protector is the Enterprise in reverse. Each of the Enterprises have a round command section and long cylindrical engines. The Protector has a long cylindrical command section and round engines.
  • "The character of Guy Fleegman was an intentional homage to a very busy Star Trek: The Next Generation actor Guy Vardaman, who not only played several no-name extras in the series, but also served as a stunt/stand-in double for Brent Spiner (Data) and Wil Wheaton (Wesley). His reaction to the homage: 'I just about fell out of the chair!' having forgotten being told that the character would appear in a film someday."

Below you’ll find a trailer for the film, a couple fake documentaries that were made to help market the film and are incredibly entertaining, as well as a collection of deleted scenes.

Teaser Posters For SPACEBALLS 2: THE SEARCH FOR MORE MONEY Appear in NYC Subways

Look what's showing up in the New York City subway...

Slash Film is telling us to take the news with a grain of salt. They believe if there were actual news confirming that Spaceballs 2 was anywhere past Mel Brooks mentioning it offhand there would've been talk before this. I'm of the mind that it could be Brooks subtly pushing for another Broadway adaptation, although it is interesting to reread his thoughts from late last year about a possible sequel to Spaceballs...

“If I did a movie that came out right after Star Wars comes out — maybe a couple of months later — I’d have a big weekend, you know? No matter what, even if it fell on its ass and didn’t get its money back…but that first weekend, the anticipation of seeing Spaceballs 2, would…I still have Daphne Zuniga and I still have Rick Moranis if he’d do it, and I’ve still got me.”

I'd love to see Rick Moranis return to film myself! The guy was such a big part of my childhood film watching! Would you be down for Spaceballs 2?

J.J. Abrams Has Plans For a Third CLOVERFIELD Movie

$

With Bad Robot's mysterious 10 Cloverfield Lane coming up very soon, and many still speculating about the connection between that film and 2008's hand-held disaster movie Cloverfield, it's not surprising that people want to know everything they can about what producer J.J. Abrams has in store for us. Well, if things go his way — and this is Abrams we're talking about, so when haven't things gone his way? — fans will probably be treated to a third film in the Cloverfield universe.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Abrams mentioned that a "larger conceit" was at play with this franchise, saying:

"I would be lying if I didn’t say there was something else that, if we’re lucky enough to do it, could be really cool that connects some stories.
This is just this movie, and it’s only two films that we’re talking about right now. There is something else that we’d like to do, and hopefully we’ll get a shot.”

I've seen speculation that the third movie could be other mystery box-based projects the production company already has in development, like God Particle or Collider, but since those projects have been kicking around for a while already, and it's my understanding that the decision to turn Valencia into a Cloverfield sequel was made more recently (relatively speaking), it doesn't seem likely those two projects are connected here.

I'm fascinated by the ideas behind this unconventional franchise, and I really like the anthology aspect of it. Here's hoping Dan Trachtenberg's 10 Cloverfield Lane turns out to be great, and Bad Robot decides to move ahead with plans to connect these stories in an even bigger way.

In his latest video, we examine the "meta-cinematic" nature of Christopher Nolan and his ability to merge that with immersion. If none of that made sense just now, the video will clear it up.

A bulk of this analysis is done with The Prestige, which, outside of Batman, is my favorite work of his! Do you think the premise of The Prestige was strong because we wanted to be fooled, or did you really not see it coming?
