"You know you're one bad day away from being me."

Netflix has released the first full trailer for season two of Marvel's Daredevil, and it's awesomely intense! It finally properly introduces us to Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, and what we see here proves that the actor really is perfect for the role. This next season looks like it's going to be insane, and the dynamic between Daredevil and the Punisher is going to take the intensity of Hell's Kitchen to a whole new level.

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios.

Bigger problems emerge when Frank Castle, a man looking for vengeance, is reborn as The Punisher, a man who takes justice into his own hands in Matt’s neighborhood. Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.

The series also stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson, and Élodie Yung as Electra. Season 2 starts streaming March 18th, 2016.

Daniel Craig Reportedly Exiting BOND Franchise; Signs TV Deal for New Series

While there has been no official word, Den of Geek is reporting that it's more than likely Daniel Craig is exiting the Bond franchise. The rumor is being stoked by the fact that Craig signed on to a starring role in a 20 episode series called Purity. No network has purchased the rights to the show yet, but several have thrown their hat in the ring after learning Craig is involved.

With such a commitment, it seems all too likely that Craig will be booked up during the time table for the next James Bond film. It could also mean we aren't seeing a Bond film for awhile, which would mean Craig's exit as well as the actor is approaching 50.

While I fully support Craig pursuing his interests and having a career post Bond, I hate that he may go out on Spectre of all films! Skyfall would've been a much better end to the Craig era.

The studio also confirmed the rumor that Benicio Del Toro has joined the cast, and added that Oscar nominee Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) has come on board, along with newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.

French Magazine Confirms Even More Cameos For BATMAN V SUPERMAN

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

CBM has unearthed some info from a French film magazine that appears to reveal what roles Jena Malone, Scoot McNairy, and Callan Mulvey will be playing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. See the photo below...

The rumors are true! Jena Malone is going to be donning the cape as Batgirl Barbara Gordon. I'm guessing we won't see her in her suit, but it's good to know the possibility will be open in future films. Scoot McNairy is playing Jimmy Olsen. He seems a bit old for the role but I'm a fan of McNairy so I'll allow it.

The strangest casting has to be Callan Mulvey as Anatoli Knyazev. It seems weird to shoehorn the leader of the Bratva into what's already a jam-packed film. Curiously enough. I don't believe we've seen the Bratva leader in Arrow before.

All this information is still unconfirmed, and foreign outlets have been known to get things wrong in the past. That said, this seems like a little more than bold guessing in my opinion. I'm gonna trust it until it's thrown in my face that I'm wrong.

Review: THE EXPANSE Lays The Foundation for a Great Space Opera

$

0

As it's currently in the running for most underrated sci-fi of the winter season, I'm sure you've heard of The Expanse. Syfy shocked more than a few with a surprisingly high budget space drama that was being called "Game of Thrones in Space." Others acclaimed it as the most scientifically accurate science fiction to grace television in a long time. In other words, it was hyped beyond belief by critics far and wide. Having binged the whole season last week, there's some claims I agree with, and others I dispute.

First, this show is no Game of Thrones, and I mean that in an apples to oranges way not as a criticism. Sure it may appear that way with the intro looking "heavily inspired" at best, warring planets, and an unknown enemy, but there's a lot more to cut your teeth on here. GOT has the advantage of bringing you into a world you know. They don't have to explain the properties of magic, dragons, sword fighting. Even most non geeks know the classic tropes of the fantasy genre.

This isn't necessarily true for fans of the space opera. For one, this is a space show without hyperspace, teleportation, or non humans of any sort. Everyone has a smart device (go figure), but it's essentially Smart Glass tech that we might see even 15 years from now. If there were any complaints I would say it's that at times things seem a little too low tech for 200 years into our future!

This is a story of Earth's colonization 200 years from now, and political tensions between Earth, Mars, and the working class people who live within the Asteroid belt, called "Belters." Really trying to explain anything beyond that without you actively watching the show will just confuse.

This video might help.

You'll learn the differences between nations rather quickly, as well as be fully immersed within the culture in no time. My best advice is to PAY ATTENTION when watching. I missed what O.P.A. meant (they say it all the time) and just now learned that it's the Outer Planetary Alliance.

Don't let the learning curve dissuade you from watching, though! There's a rich and well developed culture that we learn about all throughout the season. From the creation of a Creole-based language to the reimagining of songs we love today. The best part is it never feels intrusive. The show does a good job of teaching you about this new world without bogging down the pace of the show.

Another strength of this show is that it is absolutely gorgeous. Truth be told, I can't think of a show I've seen (premium channels excluded) where the production value appears so high. The locations, ships, space...all top of the line in visual quality. If this show does begin to show its age 10 years out, it won't be from an aesthetic standpoint.

I'll admit my love of the show's execution kept me in for the first couple episodes. The cast is not at all easy to love right out the gate. Thomas Jane plays a native Belter detective with a chip on his shoulder and a fedora on his head, and I'll say right out the gate I was over him. By the season's end, however,  he had grown on me considerably, but nowhere near as much as Steven Strait (James Holden) and supporting cast. These guys have a natural dynamic that screams "we can hold together a show where we are in a ship 90% of the time," and I'm all for learning how their characters move forward here on out.

Things can get talk heavy (especially in the Earth scenes), but the action really makes up the bulk of it. You're guaranteed at the very least an action scene per episode, and a proper amount of gore to boot. It is SyFy after all.

By episode five you'll love this show, and I know that's a lot of time to give to something on my word, but this one takes some time to appreciate. The season finale lays the foundation for what looks to be an awesome (and already confirmed) season two filled with more action and more information about this brave new world. I'm ready. Anyone else?

Todd McFarlane Says His New SPAWN Film Is a Horror, Suspense, Supernatural Thriller

During a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane revealed at Toy Fair New York that he has completed the script for his long-awaited new Spawn film and offers some details on what we can expect to see from that movie

With the success of Deadpool in its opening weekend, I think it’s safe to say that we might very well be seeing more R-rated superhero films hit theaters. One of those films could be Todd McFarlane’s Spawn… again.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first movie. In fact, it downright sucked. But I think this new adaptation of Spawn that the artist is working on will be a lot better. When talking about the script, McFarlane said:

"I've finished the script, and I'm in the process of editing. It's 183 pages, and [producers] usually like 120. I still think it's going to end up being about 140, because I'm putting in details for myself."

McFarlane is looking to direct this next film, and he’s hoping to start production on it later this year. He said:

"I want to keep it small, keep it tight, so they'll let me direct it! I need to get him back up on the big screen again to make him relevant in a big way, which we will do.”

I was a huge fan of Spawn growing up. He was one of my favorite comic book characters, and I especially enjoy the HBO animated Spawn series. I’d love to see Spawn get an awesome movie, and McFarlane has been talking about this project for YEARS, so hopefully it actually really happens.

McFarlane went on to explain that his new movie is going to different from any interpretation that we’ve seen from the character before. This is not going to be a superhero action movie. He wants this movie to be “a hard R” film that falls into the “horror/suspense/supernatural genre.” He explained:

"If you take the movie The Departed meets Paranormal Activity, something like that."

His goal is to do something very different and unique with the character and he explained what that is, saying:

"In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn. Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be the spectre, the ghost."

He also spoke about how this new version of Spawn is like the lurking evil that we’ve seen in films like The Grudge and The Ring:

"I think they all work because there’s only one thing in the movie that’s not normal. There’s not five things, there’s one thing that’s the boogeyman. So that’ll be Spawn. He’s this thing that just whooshes in, this ghost that moves and will f*** you up if you’re in the wrong place in the wrong time, and the rest of the movie will look real, and be this real drama. He’s just this ghost, this thing behind it."

This isn’t the first time he’s shared this concept, and I’m extremely curious to see how he actually pulls it off for the big screen. Doing it this way will also allow him to keep the budget on the movie down.

"Basically, I can make this version of the movie on a budget without crazy special effects.

I would love to see this Spawn movie get made because it really has the potential to be something awesome. Jaimie Foxx showed interest in joining the project years ago, but who knows if that interest is still there. McFarlane will be shopping the project to studios soon, but I think he should just fund the damn thing himself and make it happen.

What do you all think of McFarlane’s plans for Spawn? Do you think he’ll actually get around to making the movie?

James Gunn on the Success of DEADPOOL and What It Means for Comic Book Movies

$

There's no doubt that the success of Deadpool is going to bring on some change in the kinds of superhero/comic book films that Hollywood starts to develop. Deadpool proves that when something is done right it will be successful regardless of the rating.

This could pave the way for more rated-R superhero movies, but that doesn't mean they'll all be as successful as Deadpool. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently shared his thoughts on Deadpool's success and what it means for superhero movies. He explained how Deadpool could lead Hollywood to bring exciting and fun new comic book properties to the big screen, but at the same time, it could also lead to studios scrambling to rush a bunch of shitty unoriginal carbon copies into production so they can cash in on Deadpool's success.

His whole rant was sparked by a comment from an anonymous studio exec who doesn't think Marvel Studios is capable of poking fun at themselves. Here's Gunn's post:

"The film has a self-deprecating tone that’s riotous. It’s never been done before. It’s poking fun at Marvel. That label takes itself so seriously, can you imagine them making fun of themselves in a movie? They’d rather stab themselves."
That's a quote from Deadline Hollywood, attributing it to a Hollywood "suit." I love Deadline and get a lot of my film business news from them. And I love Deadpool even more - the film is hilariously funny, has lots of heart, and is exactly what we need right now, taking true risks in spectacle film - but COME THE [frick] ON. That's no reason to rewrite history. This quote has to have been said by the dumbest [frick]ing Hollywood exec in the history of dumb [frick]ing Hollywood execs.
Let's ignore Guardians for a moment, a movie that survives from moment to moment building itself up and cutting itself down - God knows I'm biased about that one. But what do you think Favreau and Downey did in Iron Man? What the [frick] was Ant-Man??!
Come on, Deadline.
After every movie smashes records people here in Hollywood love to throw out the definitive reasons why the movie was a hit. I saw it happen with Guardians. It "wasn't afraid to be fun" or it "was colorful and funny" etc etc etc. And next thing I know I hear of a hundred film projects being set up "like Guardians," and I start seeing dozens of trailers exactly like the Guardians trailer with a big pop song and a bunch of quips. Ugh.
Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.
Deadpool wasn't that. Deadpool was its own thing. THAT'S what people are reacting to. It's original, it's damn good, it was made with love by the filmmakers, and it wasn't afraid to take risks.
For the theatrical experience to survive, spectacle films need to expand their definition of what they can be. They need to be unique and true voices of the filmmakers behind them. They can't just be copying what came before them.
So, over the next few months, if you pay attention to the trades, you'll see Hollywood misunderstanding the lesson they should be learning with Deadpool. They'll be green lighting films "like Deadpool" - but, by that, they won't mean "good and original" but "a raunchy superhero film" or "it breaks the fourth wall." They'll treat you like you're stupid, which is the one thing Deadpool didn't do.
But hopefully in the midst of all this there will be a studio or two that will take the right lesson from this - like Fox did with Guardians by green-lighting Deadpool - and say - "Boy, maybe we can give them something they don't already have."
And that's who is going to succeed.

What do you all think of Gunn's thoughts here? I'll leave you with this tweet from Gunn in which he says Deadpool is a 100% perfect movie.

HORROR HOUSE Will Be THE EXPENDABLES of Horror Films

Last year Bruce Campbell talked about an idea for a horror movie that he described as The Expendables of horror films — a film that would bring together a ton of classic horror stars together in one movie. It was a great idea that got horror fans really excited and is now being brought to life. Unfortunately, it’s not coming from Bruce Campbell.

The movie is being directed by B. Harrison Smith, who has made a few movies that I’ve never heard of like Camp Dread and Zombie Killers: Elephant Graveyard. The script for the film was written by the late Gunnar Hansen, who is best known for playing Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films.

The cast of the movie is pretty impressive and includes Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Bill Moseley (House of a 1000 Corpses), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes), Dee Wallace (The Howling), Danny Trejo (Machete), Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead), Don Shanks (Silent Night Deadly Night), and Camille Keaton (I Spit on Your Grave).

I’m sure you all want to know what the movie is about, so here’s the synopsis:

The Death House is the Area 51 of Evil… a subterranean government facility that holds humanity’s worst on nine levels. Hell, Dante’s ninth level, holds the Five Evils… the “dark stars” of Death House. These individuals are so heinous they can never walk among society again. They may also be supernatural.
Agents Toria Boon and Jae Novak have their own dark pasts, arriving at Death House to tour its levels and observe its denizens first-hand as well as the medical and mental experiments of Drs. Eileen Fletcher and Karen Redmane. Their depraved experiments date back to the Nazi doctors of WWII.
Prison cells are virtual reality holo decks that recreate prisoner environments before they were incarcerated. A special hallucinogenic gas keeps inmates under control. The victims are homeless, bused into Death House to play literal victims while killing habits are studied. The results are sick, but only a hint of what goes on here.
Hell literally breaks loose inside the facility when an EMP device detonates, killing all power and communication and… releasing every prisoner. Boon, Novak, and Fletcher are caught in a race against advancing prisoner hordes led by occultist Neo-Nazi Sieg. The monsters are freed, and they’re going down.
Boon and Novak’s fight through Death House turns into a house of horrors gauntlet; their only hope of escape is descending into Hell and enlisting the help of the Five Evils. Events culminate in a violent face-to-face standoff with absolute evil… only to find that they have traveled down a rabbit hole and through a looking glass. Black is white and white is black and the definitions of good and evil no longer apply.
Who are the monsters? Who will escape?

This actually sounds like a fun concept. Hopefully, the creative team is able to pull it off and deliver a decent quality horror film. The movie will be released sometime in 2017.

100+ Easter Eggs Within DEADPOOL All Covered in This Video

Sorry, DEADPOOL's "Even More Raw" Director's Cut Isn't Happening After All

A couple of weeks ago, Deadpool actor T.J. Miller spoke at a fan event and revealed that the film's director's cut was going to be "even more raw" than the hard-R theatrical cut that fans went nuts for this past weekend. But it looks like the actor may have been misinformed or the plan has changed, because at a more recent Q&A with Collider, Deadpool director Tim Miller shut down the notion that there would be a director's cut at all.

“I don’t wanna be all Joss Whedon on you, but no there’s not [a director’s cut]… There are some deleted scenes that have some extra stuff, but I’m pretty happy with this cut. I like it.”

It sounds like they shot some extra violent material that Miller wanted to include, but producer Simon Kinberg talked him out of it:

“There’s some stuff on the DVD extras, I had a little more workshop fight in there that I liked—that’s the beat that we were talking about, [Simon’s] like, ‘Tim it’s violent enough, please’ and I’m like, ‘Oh no but man when he stomps on his face it’s awesome,’ and Simon’s like, ‘No we’ve got enough.’ (laughs)”

Sorry, Deadpool fans. Looks like you'll have to make do with some bonus features and the theatrical cut...at least until the sequel, that is.

Supercut: Amusing Similarities Between Luke and Owen Wilson

Owenergy Studios, the same team that put together supercuts of Owen Wilson saying "wow" and the actor whispering in his movies, is back with a new video, and this time they're expanding the subjects to not only Owen, but his brother Luke Wilson as well. The video shows off the hilarious similarities in speaking patterns between the two. It's not surprising that they would share so many speech patterns — I'm sure youv'e noticed that when you spend a lot of time around a friend or loved one, you start using the same mannerisms and phrases — but it's still funny to see them all play out in supercut form. I think the moments when the video plays their voices at the same time are the funniest. Check it out:

SING Trailer: Matthew McConaughey Judges AMERICAN IDOL For Animals

Illumination Entertainment has The Secret Life of Pets coming up this summer, but the studio already has another animated film on the way that returns to the world of animals once again. This time, though, they're not pets going wild when their owners are away: they're anthropomorphized creatures participating in an American Idol-style singing competition judged a koala named Buster Moon (voiced by Matthew McConaughey). Appropriately enough, the film is called Sing, and the new teaser features a showcase of different animals crooning to different pop hits. This looks like it could be fun.

Sing hits theaters on December 21st, and it has a great cast that includes McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, Tori Kelly, John C. Reilly, Nick Offerman, and Taron Egerton.

Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal optimist—okay, maybe a bit of a scoundrel—who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.
Five lead contestants emerge: A mouse (Seth MacFarlane) who croons as smoothly as he cons, a timid teenage elephant (Tori Kelly) with an enormous case of stage fright, an overtaxed mother (Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon) run ragged tending a litter of 25 piglets, a young gangster gorilla (Taron Egerton) looking to break free of his family’s felonies, and a punk-rock porcupine (Scarlett Johansson) struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend and go solo. Each animal arrives under Buster’s marquee believing that this is their shot to change the course of their life.

The Joys and Frustrations of Geek Culture: We're Damned If We Do, We're Damned If We Don’t

I’ve been a geek my whole life. I couldn’t help it! It’s something I was just born into. My childhood was filled with action figures, cartoons, comic books, movies, and video games that consisted of things such as G.I. Joe, Transformers, Star Wars, He-Man, E.T., Marvel, DC, The Goonies, and Star Trek, and that barely scratches the surface of the awesomeness I was exposed to! These things helped mold my personality, tastes, and style. They are all the reasons why I started this website!

There’s something about being a geek that makes a person very opinionated and that’s awesome. If you’ve been a reader of GeekTyrant for awhile, you know I’m a very opinionated individual, and those opinions spark the opinions of others geeks which makes for great fun conversations — and then, of course, sometimes they bring out a lot of hateful remarks. It’s just the nature of being a geek. If someone doesn’t like my opinion about something or the opinions of our other writers, the reader reacts in two ways. The first is in a civilized manner that respectfully disagrees and offers a constructive argument or criticism. Then there’s the other extreme, which could involve death threats. It’s madness! But that’s seriously how passionate people get about the things that they love.

One of the most recent examples that comes to mind is Ben's Deadpool review. Even though I didn't fully agree with it, it's good to get a different perspective on a film. Some readers appreciated what he was saying while others were telling us to fire him for sharing his opinion. Why would we fire someone because they have a different voice? That's the complete opposite of what GeekTyrant stands for. We want people to have a unique voice and an opinion. It's something we encourage.

I’ve been running GeekTyrant for over seven years now and in that time we’ve paid attention to our readers and what they are saying. We read your comments we see your enthusiasm and we’ve also seen your complaints. In that time we’ve adjusted certain aspects of the website to try and meet everyone’s needs, but in the crazy world of geekdom there’s one universal truth that I’ve learned, and that is that no matter what we do, we're damned if we do and we're damned if we don’t.

I have the kind of personality where I like a lot of stuff. I’m an easy person to please. Most of the reviews I write for the site are positive because it’s easy for me to see the good qualities of a movie. One of the reasons why I started GeekTyrant is because I freakin’ love watching movies and playing video games! I watch movies every chance I get, both good and bad. I find joy in watching movies and so when I write a review, I like to write about the things I enjoyed about them. I tend to get a lot of crap from some people because as I've been told, “I like everything,” but then when I actually write a negative review about something I really didn’t like, there’s a whole new group of people ready and waiting to pounce on me and tear me apart for not liking a movie. It’s a rare thing for me to write a bad review, but when I do write one it’s because I’m affected so much that makes me want to unleash the firey fury of a thousand suns. Thus…I’m damned if I like everything and I’m damned if I don’t. The fact of the matter is if I didn’t have as much fun as I do watching movies then what in the hell would I want to do this job for? So yeah, I like a lot of movies and for the most part, I’m a positive individual unless something sucks to high hell...then I let the ranting commence.

It’s simply impossible to make everyone happy. As much as I would love to do that, it’s not going to happen. So first things first, I have to be honest with myself. Every article I write, every review I post, I am giving you my truthful, unbiased opinion and a piece of myself. We are an independent site that’s not owned by any big corporation — unlike a lot of the other sites out in the online universe. This allows myself and our writing staff to let their personalities flourish and shine on the site. Everyone is different and that’s what makes being a geek so damn amazing! Geeks are a colorful group of people, so why not encourage it? The studios don’t tell us what to write and they certainly don’t pay us to write positive reviews. If they did, I’d be a rich man!

GeekTyrant would be a pretty boring website to read if there was a uniform style and if all the writers sounded exactly the same. It’s the same with the readers and the commenters. I love that we have such a wide variety of personalities sharing their opinions with us. I don’t want that to ever change.

Of course, all those different personalities come with its own set of issues and chaos that we have to manage and I’d be lying if I didn’t say it was frustrating at times. For example, we always try to avoid putting spoilery information in the title of our posts and this is received in a few different ways. We try to hit a medium ground by giving you enough information for it not to be considered clickbait, but we also don’t want to spoil anything for our audience. This is something we are still constantly playing with because we have a group of people that call us out on clickbait which we don’t mean to do, and then we get called out for spoiling stuff, which we don’t mean to do either. The post has to have a title, though! This is another one of the many scenarios in which we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

I just want you all to know that we really are trying to make sure people are happy with the articles we post and how they are presented to you. We are also trying to do that without sacrificing the integrity of the site, our writers, and our relationship with you, the readers. I freakin’ love our GeekTyrant community and I just want to make it better, bigger, and stronger.

Jeff Nichols' Sci-Fi Road Movie MIDNIGHT SPECIAL Gets a Powerful New Trailer

Jeff Nichols, the director of Take Shelter and Mud, is back with his first studio film, Midnight Special. The movie, which was heavily influenced by films like Close Encounters, E.T., and Starman, is currently making the film festival rounds, and from what I've seen so far, it's received a lot of positive reviews. I'm a huge fan of Nichols' work, so I'm excited to check this one out for myself.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the film, and for all the talk about this being a sci-fi chase story, this trailer makes it very clear that there's more going on than just surface level thrills. Check it out below. Midnight Special hits theaters on March 18th.

In the sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special,” writer/director Jeff Nichols proves again that he is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time, as a father (Michael Shannon), goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), and uncover the truth behind the boy’s special powers.

What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government. Ultimately his father risks everything to protect Alton and help fulfill a destiny that could change the world forever, in this genre–defying film as supernatural as it is intimately human.

Simon Kinberg Says X-FORCE Movie Could Be Rated R

In the wake of Deadpool's massive box office success, it shouldn't be too long until we hear about an X-Force movie officially getting the green light and moving into production at 20th Century Fox. Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow wrote a script a couple of years ago (creator Rob Liefeld loved it) and was supposed to be directing the live-action feature, but that never ended up happening. But Ryan Reynolds has spoken about X-Force as "a priority," and considering how much money Deadpool made this past weekend, I'd guess Fox will push that plan through fairly quickly.

At the same Q&A in which the sad news came out that Deadpool won't get a director's cut, Collider asked producer Simon Kinberg, who basically serves as the godfather of Fox's superhero films, if there were any other properties he thought could end up being rated R, and this is what he said:

“I think there are some stories that could be R-rated. I don’t know what they are, I mean I think the mainline X-Men movies have their own tone, which is a more operatic tone. It’s more dramatic, it is more PG-13 in a way. X-Force I could see being R-rated, and who knows?”

And before you start jumping for joy, Kinberg didn't confirm that the film would 100% have an R-rating. “I’m saying I could imagine a universe in which [X-Force is R-rated],” he clarified. With Deadpool 2 in development and the X-Men movies about to undergo a handoff to a new cast in this year's X-Men: Apocalypse, Fox is surely looking for ways to maximize profits with its superhero fare, and now that Deadpool has proven that R-rated Marvel films can be financially viable, perhaps the studio will allow an X-Force movie to appeal to an older crowd. We'll keep you posted when more about an X-Force film inevitably comes to light.

Someone Gave A Brilliant Reason For Why E.T. Came Back From The Dead

One thing I love about geek culture is we analyze meaningless stuff to an insane degree. Of course it's not meaningless to us, we get it, but the general population thinks we are wasting our time. While the layman could describe the death and resurrection of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial as "movie magic," Greg Reimer of Medium gives a much more detailed reason! Steven Spielberg, if you're reading this, make this canon!

So essentially the whole theory is hinged on the fact that E.T. comes from a species of aliens that are reliant on communication through the use of telepathy and psychic links. Through the use of their "hive minds," the species are able to heal their own tissue and remove waste internally in their chests (hence the red glow).

The stress of healing themselves and others is in no way a burden to the species when working in unison, but very hard on an individual without a psychic link to his companions. Reimer elaborates:

"The range of this telepathy appears to have limits comparable to—or slightly beyond—the scale of planetary orbit. Thus, when E.T. is first stranded on Earth, his situation is more dire than it appears. Separated by a vast distance from his fellows, his physical deterioration begins immediately. In order to survive, E.T. quickly establishes an ad hoc hive mind with the first conscious being he encounters; a young boy named Elliot. This link is of course evident throughout the film, particularly when Elliot shows symptoms of intoxication after E.T. ingests alcohol. The connection is nevertheless weak, and has the unfortunate side effect of taxing Elliot’s own vitality, but by re-purposing Elliot’s brain as a surrogate computer, E.T. buys himself enough time to build and deploy a distress beacon."

E.T. isn't just trying to get off our planet because he's homesick, he needs to be with his friends to survive! This also explains why Elliot magically recovers once E.T. is essentially clinically dead. You really need to check out the full article to appreciate the awesome amount of thought that went into this!

Do you agree with me that it should be canon? Or do you think it's just extensive fan fiction?

Angelina Jolie's Spy Movie SALT Getting a TV Adaptation

Remember Salt? The 2010 spy thriller didn't leave much of a cultural impact, and it's probably still best known for having Angelina Jolie star in a lead role that was originally meant for Tom Cruise. But despite the fact that Sony tried unsuccessfully to get a sequel off the ground — twice, in fact — the studio is apparently developing a TV adaptation of the movie and is currently pitching the project at the European Film Market.

Screen Daily has the report, which comes along with a quote from Diego Suarez, the senior vice president of international television production at Sony Pictures Entertainment:

"We want to bring it to Europe in a completely different way."

What exactly that means remains unclear. One interpretation is that they could, for example, partner with a European company like Luc Besson's EuropaCorp to produce this show. Or, Suarez could simply mean that they plan to eventually shoot the show overseas. Either way, it seems strange that they'd choose Salt as a property to sink more money into. The film did well at the box office, pulling in almost $300 million worldwide, but it's been six years since it came out and I haven't heard or read anyone say a single thing about it since it came out, with the exceptions of those couple of blips of reports about a possible sequel.

Obviously, casting is going to play a huge part in this show's potential watchability, along with what network or cable channel it ends up on. But assuming those elements align with your personal tastes, are you interested in watching the further adventures of Eveyln Salt play out on the small screen?

BORN TO BE BLUE Trailer: Ethan Hawke Gets His Own Jazz Biopic

Just a few days after Don Cheadle appeared in a new trailer for his biopic of jazz legend Miles Davis, Ethan Hawke has popped up in the trailer for a quasi-biopic of a different jazz musician. Hawke plays trumpet master Chet Baker in Born to Be Blue, a new film from IFC Films that blends fact and fiction, and actually features someone playing Miles Davis in a supporting role. Carmen Ejogo plays Baker's love interest, and Robert Budreau directs. Interestingly, Budreau tackled this subject before in a short called The Deaths of Chet Baker back in 2009.

Born to Be Blue will hit theaters on March 31st, only a day before Cheadle's Miles Ahead arrives on the big screen.

Ethan Hawke lights up the screen as jazz legend Chet Baker, whose tumultuous life is thrillingly reimagined with wit, verve, and style to burn. In the 1950s, Baker was one of the most famous trumpeters in the world, renowned as both a pioneer of the West Coast jazz scene and an icon of cool. By the 1960s, he was all but washed up, his career and personal life in shambles due to years of heroin addiction. In his innovative anti-biopic, director Robert Budreau zeroes in on Baker’s life at a key moment in the 1960s, just as the musician attempts to stage a hard-fought comeback, spurred in part by a passionate romance with a new flame (Carmen Ejogo). Creatively blending fact with fiction and driven by Hawke’s virtuoso performance, Born to Be Blue unfolds with all the stylistic brio and improvisatory genius of great jazz.
