PARENTAL GUIDANCE Trailer with Billy Crystal and Marisa Tomei

I've missed seeing Billy Crystal up on the big screen. I've always enjoyed the movies he's made over the years, and I'm happy to see him back! He stars in a new family comedy called Parental Guidnce alongside Bette Midler, Marisa Tomei and Bailee Madison.

The movie was directed by Andy Fickman, and tells the story of "old school grandfather Artie, who is accustomed to calling the shots and who meets his match when he and his eager-to-please wife Diane agree to babysit their 3 grandkids when their type-A helicopter parents go away for work. But when 21st century problems collide with Artie and Diane’s old school methods of tough rules, lots of love and old-fashioned games, it’s learning to bend - and not holding your ground - that binds a family together."

Crystal hasen't made a movie since Analyze That in 2002. Not sure if this movie will be the best comeback for him, but I really do enjoy his comedy style. Hopefully it provides some fun entertainment to audiences. The movie hits theaters on December 25th, 2012. What's your favorite Billy Crystal movie?

Wonder Woman Pumping Iron on Muscle Beach

I love this piece of art the features Wonder Woman pumping iron on Muscle Beach as Batman, Superman and Green Lantern stare mesmerized by her muscular physique. I imagine they just realized they really need to get into shape. If you notice they're all a little bit out of shape, especially with those skinny ass legs. I also think Batman's chest hair is hilarious!

The piece was created by Jeff Victor.

James Cameron Says AVATAR 4 Will be a Prequel

James Cameron won't be shooting Avatar 4 at the same time as parts two and three, but he's got an idea for a fourth Avatar film. In an interview with MTV the director reveals that it will be a prequel to his first Avatar movie, saying "It goes back to the early expeditions of Pandora and kind of what went wrong with the humans." He goes on to explain,

I have an idea for a fourth. I haven't really put pen to paper on it, but basically it goes back to the early expeditions of Pandora, and kind of what went wrong with the humans and the Na'vi and what that was like to be an explorer and living in that world.

Because when we drop in, even in the first film in 'Avatar 1,' as it will be known in the future, we're dropping into a process that's 35 years in to a whole colonization. That will complete an arc and if that leads into more, we'll start, not imitating 'Star Wars,' but it's a logical thing to do because we'll have completed the thematic arc by the end of three. The only thing left to do is go back to see what it was like on those first expeditions and create some new characters that then become legacy characters in later films. It's a plan.

So it sounds like he's thinking of taking the Avatar universe beyond a fourth film and expanding the universe even furthur, which is what Lucas should be doing with his Star Wars universe. There's an endless supply of movies that could be made, but it will never happen. Cameron goes on to talk about the sequel's he's been developing,

We've spent two years refining the whole pipeline. It was a hideously complex process to make that film and a lot has been said about that, but we don't want it to be done in the same prototypical way as the first one, we want it to be a much smoother workflow just for creativity reasons.

He then adds that he's still working on on the script for the next two chapters of the story saying that it's a daunting process "because I'm writing two scripts together as one big thing." He then takes a fun crack at Peter Jackson and his Hobbit movies saying,

You know, Peter Jackson had it easy, he already had the books. He had the books. Now if I had a time machine I could go forward and watch the movies and then come back, but I don't!

If anyone had a time machine right now it would be Cameron. Hell, he's probably already having one secretly built!

I'd actually love to see an Avatar prequel. Maybe five to ten years from now it will eventually happen. What do you think about Cameron's concept for a prequel movie to help expand the Avatar universe even further?

First Look At Lee Pace as King Thranduil in THE HOBBIT

$

Here's our first good look at Lee Pace as King Thranduil in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Thranduil is the father of Legolas, and I love that Jackson cast Pace, he looks great in the role! After seeing these photos, do you think Pace was a good casting decision for this character?

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the character, which contains spoilers if you haven't read the books...

Thranduil first appears in The Hobbit as the Elvenking, when Bilbo and the Dwarves enter his realm in the northern part of Mirkwood. The Dwarves are captured by Thranduil's guards and locked in his dungeons when they refuse to divulge their intentions. The Dwarves were rescued by Bilbo, who had remained in hiding with his use of a magic ring of invisibility.

After the death of the dragon Smaug, Thranduil along with people of Lake-town demanded a share of the treasure of Erebor. War with the Dwarves was averted by the arrival of a goblin/warg army and the ensuing battle.

Thranduil was the father of Legolas, a supporting character in The Lord of the Rings. The gradually-established friendship between Legolas and the Dwarf Gimli, the son of Glóin of The Hobbit, helps to reconcile Thranduil's people and the Dwarves. The appendices to The Return of the King note that Thranduil withstood attacks by Sauron during northern battles of the War of the Ring, meeting with Celeborn and his people to together destroy Dol Guldur and cleanse Mirkwood of Sauron's taint of evil. Also, Legolas and the Silvan Elves later worked together with Gimli and the Dwarves to rebuild and improve Minas Tirith, capital city of Gondor, the realm of their mutual friend Aragorn. The last time Thranduil was mentioned was soon after Sauron's final defeat.

Thanks to Nznoldor for the images!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, opens this holiday season, on December 14th, 2012The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, will be released on December 13th, 2013, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will be released worldwide on July 18th, 2014.

Synopsis:

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

HULK and STAR WARS Minimalist Poster Mashup and More

Do you wish all movies could be superhero movies? I sometimes do, but artist Luiz Arthuso made it a reality with these sweet minimalist poster art. He mixed Star Wars with the Hulk, Superman with Back to the Future, The joker and The Grinch, and many more.
Here is a translated description of the pieces:
Over a series of posters minimalists where, this time, I mix some heroes and villains in films that recall its main features, such as "Saving Private Ryan" with Steve Rogers (Captain America). The book "1001 Movies to see before you die" and the magazine "The curious guide of Super Heroes" were the main sources of references, where I spent the most time trying to get ideas of combinations between characters and films. The production was the fastest part of the process, since we had such a minimal footprint, without many details and frills.

Of course I'll want to make part 2 of this series of posters, so who wants to give any idea or suggestion, leave in the comments or send by e-mail (arthusoluiz@gmail.com). Over a series of posters minimalists where, this time, I mix some heroes and villains in films that recall its main features, such as "Saving Private Ryan" with Steve Rogers (Captain America).

For those of you wanting to see more Prometheus footage, today's your lucky day. There's over ten minutes of deleted footage from the film that was included with the full French version of the film on DVD that recently leaked online.

There's nothing in this footage that really fills any of the plot holes, and doesn't make any of the scientists any less stupid, but it's still worth watching if you enjoyed the movie. I imagine there will be more of these deleted scenes included on the Blu-ray release of the film. Did you like this movie enough to want to buy it?

James Cameron's BATTLE ANGEL to get Made in 2017

$

According to producer Jon Landau, James Cameron still plans on making his long awaited sci-fi film Battle Angel. When Cameron said that all he was going to be working on from now on was Avatar movies, we were left wondering if that meant he'd never get to Battle Angel. It's not going to happen anytime soon though, Cameron won't get around to making it until after he's done making his Avatar sequels. This is something the director said in a previous interview. But, Landau gave a brief update saying,

I am confident you will see it. It's one of my favorite stories, I think it is an incredible story, a journey of self-discovery of a young woman. It is a movie that begs the question: "What does it mean to be human? Are you human if you have a heart, are you human if you have a mind, are you human if you have a soul?" And I look forward to bringing that film to audiences.

When asked about casting he wouldn't really speculate, all he said was...

Who we would want to cast today, and who we would want to cast when we get down to making the film, might be two totally different people who would be right for the role.

He then goes on to talk about when Cameron plans of making the movie,

We'll focus on Avatar for the next four or five years, hopefully right after that.

That puts production on the film starting around 2017. The story is set in the 26th century, 300 years after society fell to a catastrophic war, and it follows an amnesiac cyborg named Alita who ends up becoming a bounty hunter. It's based on a nine-volume-long series that tells the stories of the character's attempts to rediscover her past, and the people she meets along the way. You can read much more about Cameron's plans for the film here. One of the most interesting aspects that comes out of Alita's early life is the sport of Motorball. This is one of their favorite elements of the story, and it's something that they're really excited about bringing to the big screen.

Personally, I would much rather have seen Battle Angel get made than another Avatar film. What do you think?

Out of all of the movies mentioned here, what ones are you most excited about seeing?

Joss Whedon Says GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Will Be Twisted

$

0

Avengers director Joss Whedon revealed in a recent interview with MTV that he's excited about director James Gunn's vision of Guardians of the Galaxy saying, "He has a very twisted take on it, but it all comes from a real love for the material."

It was surprising to me when I first heard Marvel was looking to adapt Guardians of the Galaxy for the big screen, but I love the idea! It's different from anything else they're doing and will expand the Marvel movie universe deeper into the darkness of space, and will introduce some very cool and interesting characters.

Whedon now has a hand in all the Marvel movies being made, as one of his new titles at the studio is creative advisor. He seems very confident that Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be a great film, and most of his confidence comes from the fact that Gunn is directing the movie.

James is what makes me think it will work. I myself was sort of like, 'Well, I liked Rocket Raccoon as a kid, but I'm not sure how that plays [to a wider audience].' And then they said, 'Well, we're thinking about using James Gunn.' And I said, 'Oh, then no, you're fine.' He is so off the wall, and so crazy, but so smart, such a craftsman and he builds from his heart. He loves the raccoon. Needs the raccoon.

This is the guy who wrote 'The Specials.' People don't understand how influential that movie was about heroes, about taking heroes and making them mundane, And [he directed] 'Super.'

Whedon goes on to say that Gunn "has barely started" on the script for the movie, but that he has a take on the story that's sure to get fans really excited.

He has a very twisted take on it, but it all comes from a real love for the material. It's going to be hard for the humans to keep up. I know he's going to come from left field and I'm going to go, 'What?' And then, 'Of course, why didn't I think of that?' And then I'm going to beat him!

I love Whedon's enthusiasm! He's like the rest of us geeks, only he has a cooler job and has a lot more money. But the fact of the matter is, he likes what we like. If he thinks something is cool, chances are we'll think it's cool as well! So that fact that he's excited about what Gunn has planned for Guardians of the Galaxy, gets me excited!

All that's been released so far is that the movie will be "about a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants."

The U.S. pilot is most likely the character Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, a gun-toting half-human/half-alien inter-galactic vigilante. Then there's the futuristic ex-cons mentioned, which would be Drax The Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos; Groot, a giant tree-man; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives; and Gamora, the last survivor of her species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles him.

What do you think about what Whedon had to say here? Are you excited about Gunn directing the movie? Do you think he'll do an awesome job bringing it to life?

Live-Action AKIRA - Opening Sequence Storyboard Art

For years Warner Bros. has been unsuccessful in trying to get a live-action Akira adaptation to the big screen. I'm not sure what the problem is, but they just can't seem to make it happen. The movie got the official greenlight in October of last year, with Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, Unknown) attached to develop the film, and Tron: Legacy's Garrett Hedlund set to star. They then shut the production down in January due to budget issues. Who knows when or if the movie will ever get made, but here's some storyboard art for the film drawn by Jeffrey Errico showing us the opening sequence of the film. Look it over and let us know what you think! Are you interested in seeing a live-action Americanized version of this movie? Or are you glad it's dead right now?

Here's the Synopsis for the remake:

Kaneda is a bar owner in Neo-Manhattan who is stunned when his brother, Tetsuo, is abducted by government agents led by The Colonel. Desperate to get his brother back, Kaneda agrees to join with Ky Reed and her underground movement who are intent on revealing to the world what truly happened to New York City thirty years ago when it was destroyed. Kaneda believes their theories to be ludicrous but after finding his brother again, is shocked when he displays telekinetic powers.

Ky believes Tetsuo is headed to release a young boy, Akira, who has taken control of Tetsuo’s mind. Kaneda clashes with The Colonel’s troops on his way to stop Tetsuo from releasing Akira but arrives too late. Akira soon emerges from his prison courtesy of Tetsuo as Kaneda races in to save his brother before Akira once again destroys Manhattan island, as he did thirty years ago.

STAR TREK INTO THE DARKNESS Title Confirmed

Over the weekend it was reported that the new title of of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel might end up being Star Trek Into the Darkness. That title has now been confirmed by Trek Movie who says,

This is a title that comes out of a long process of discussion amongst the creative team. As reported earlier, Paramount tested a number of titles for the film over the summer, including at least one title that did not include "Star Trek." Also noted in our earlier article, the title (by design) does not include a colon, like were used for the Next Generation films such as "Star Trek: First Contact" or "Star Trek: Nemesis."

According to sources, the creative team are still working on how they will officially roll out this new title. The first acknowledgement will likely be made with some kind of visual treatment, either a type treatment for the title or possibly even a teaser poster or image. Indications are that this official roll out should be coming soon.

Paramount Pictures has already secured the domain names that include www.startrekintodarkness.com and www.startrekintodarknessmovie. These are what tipped everyone off about the title in the first place.

So it looks like the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise will be heading into darkness in the next film, what lurks in that darkness has yet to be seen. In a previous interview, Chris Pine talked about the sequel saying that the crew is going to face off against a greater threat.

There's comedy, which I think J.J. does a great job of, but, like the first one, there's some serious issues being dealt with. And I'd say the threat is even greater in this one.

The force [the Enterprise crew] are met with is much more frightening. It's relentlessly action-packed and in terms of character development it goes places you'd never expect. The arc is huge for all the characters. It's a really big story—I can't hype it enough!

I loved Abrams' first film, and I'm excited to see what's in store for us in the sequel! I don't think Abrams is going to disappoint. What do you think of the new title?
