Loot Crate sent me the January 2016 box full of all kinds of goodies for sci-fi lovers. The theme of this month's crate is “Invasion,” and it was packed full of stuff with themes of The X-Files, Aliens, Space Invaders, and The Fifth Element. Below you’ll find a breakdown of what is in the box.

Exclusive X-Files The Day Has Come T-Shirt (Threadless)

loot-crate-january-2016-box-review-invasion1

With The X-Files making its comeback this month the box was packed with a t-shirt that was inspired by the series. I always enjoy the shirts that Loot Crate puts in their boxes, so of course I wear them! Why wouldn’t I want to show my love for The X-Files by wearing a t-shirt?

The FBI’s most wanted t-shirt can only be found in your Loot Crate!  The result of a design contest collaboration with Loot Crate and Threadless, the winning submission is by the artist known as “nicebleed” and celebrates the return of The X-Files to network television.  Remember, the truth may be out there, but it’s also in this month’s Loot Crate!

Exclusive Alien Facehugger Plush (Kidrobot)

loot-crate-january-2016-box-review-invasion2

I don’t really have any plushes, but my kids do! I’m sure they’ll love this cute little Alien facehugger. Hopefully it doesn’t come to life and really hug your face while you sleep because that would suck.

Invading movie theaters 30 years ago, ALIENS has a fanbase that has multiplied faster than the Xenomorphs themselves!  While the big screen facehugger wasn’t all that friendly, our cuddly, new plush version has a somewhat mellower disposition.  Includes our elastic “Facehugger Band” for those of you wanting to re-create some movie memories of your own.

Exclusive Space Invaders Vinyl Figure (A Crowded Coop)

loot-crate-january-2016-box-review-invasion3

Space Invaders came out the years I was born, and it’s a game that I grew up loving to play. Growing up my friend has an original arcade version of the game in his house, so I played it all the time. This is a pretty rad vinyl figure that comes in three colors.

Here at Loot Crate, we never stop innovating.  We took a classic two-dimensional shooter game and … zap! … re-imagined it as a three-dimensional vinyl figure!  Invading your crate in one of three cool color combinations, you’ll want to collect them all!

Exclusive The Fifth Element Prop Replica Multi Pass (Quantum Mechanix)

loot-crate-january-2016-box-review-invasion5

This is a pretty cool little thing that will hold your own ID card. If you’re a big fan of The Fifth Element, then maybe this is for you.

Well, if that jolly bearded guy in the red suit failed to deliver this past holiday, we’ve got one more present you’re sure to love: a never-before-offered, officially licensed prop replica of Leeloo Dallas’ Multi Pass from one of our favorite sci-fi flicks, The Fifth Element.  Authentic in its detail, the card holder is fully functional letting you swap out your own credit card-sized I.D.  Includes a handy chain so that you can clip it to bags & backpacks and take it wherever you go.

Exclusive “Invasion” Mini Art Prints (Quantum Mechanix)

loot-crate-january-2016-box-review-invasion6

As a fan of retro sci-fi poster art, these mini art posters were a great addition to the box that I really appreciate.

As we ring in the new year, Loot Crate salutes a couple of time-honored oldies with these awesome 9″ x 6″ art prints.  Featuring movie one-sheet art from 1951’s The Day the Earth Stood Still and 1953’s The War of the Worlds, the stunning invasion-themed designs represent a cinematic pinnacle from the Atomic Era.

Exclusive X-Files LED Flashlight

loot-crate-january-2016-box-review-invasion8

Yep, it’s another tribute to The X-Files! I’m always losing my mini flashlights, so this will come in handy. Especially when looking around my home at night look for where all those creepy noises are coming from.

Scully & Mulder might’ve solved a few more cases had they been carrying this super strong, high-projector beam LED flashlight!  Water-resistant with an anti-shock switch, it’s officially licensed and helps you re-enact your favorite show scenes or lead your very own alien investigations.  And guess what … we’ve even thrown in the batteries!

Brand New and Exclusive January 2016 Loot Pin

loot-crate-january-2016-box-review-invasion9

Then there’s the Loot Crate pin which comes with every box. This is different from any other pin that I’ve seen from them before.

Beginning this month, you’ll see a new and improved, cloisonné style collector pin in every crate!  Each pin unlocks something epic, but you’ll need to go to lootcrate.com/pins to unlock the surprises.

The unlockable comic book this month is Letter 44 #1.

Written by acclaimed comics creator Charles Soule with art by Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque.  On Inauguration Day, newly elected President Blades is ready to reverse course on the previous President’s reign of terror.  But in a letter penned by the outgoing President, Blades learns that the wars he was elected to end were just a cover to prepare for an imminent alien invasion.  A stealth mission crewed by nine astronauts has been sent to make first contact, and they’re getting close – assuming they survive.

This was a great Loot Crate box, and I liked everything that I got. It has lots of stuff that I’ll actually put to use.

New Footage in Absurdly Silly International Trailer for GODS OF EGYPT

Clichés, failed attempts at emotion, stupid visual effects, and unnecessarily loud this-is-Sparta-like screams. Yes, these are just a few of the meh things you'll find in the international trailer for Gods of Egypt with a whole new footage.

The new adventure movie stars Gerard Butler who plays Set, a God of the Desert; Brenton Thwaites starring as Bek, Thief of Legend; Elodie Yung as Hathor, Goddess of Love; Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Horus, God of the Sky; and Chadwick Boseman as Toth, God of Wisdom.

Long story short, the God of Desert rules over the Egyptian empire, while a mortal hero named Bek partners with the God of Sky to save the world from monsters, madness, and merciless gods and rescue his love.

Gods of Egypt is going to hit theaters on February 26th, 2016.

Chris Pratt Shows off Awesome Mix Vol. 2 From GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

Holy hell, you guys! This is it! This signifies that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is really underway. Posted on his Instagram, Chris Pratt is holding in his hand Star-Lord's beloved Walkman, and inside is Awesome Mix Vol. 2! I loved the first movie, and the soundtrack truly was a character in and of itself. So I cannot wait to hear what's on this tape. I'm sure it'll set the pace, mood, and even story with inspired choices from James Gunn. Anything you're hoping for? I'll just throw this out there: David Bowie's, "Heroes".

Feels good to be back in action on Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2!!! I can't even tell you how excited I am. Ok I'll try. I'm ecstatic. I'm bursting with joy. I'm overwhelmed by feelings of enthusiasm, joy, gratitude, conviviality, camaraderie, elation, exhilaration. I just used an online thesaurus for these words. I suggest trying that. That way instead of saying "I'm very excited" say, "I'm exhilarated." Never too late to learn words. The pen is mightier than the sword. I never got that. I could whoop someone's ass if I had a sword and they only had a pen. WAIT!!! Now I get it. Cause you could use a giant pen with a dagger on one end? And a gun on the other end? No? Whatever. Point is... Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Is going to be the greatest spectacle film of all time. This is not.... bear with me... using online thesaurus..... Hyperbole! This is not hyperbole!

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Nearly Featured a Yoda Cameo

0
0

It’s not a secret that Star Wars: The Force Awakens was rewritten several times, but it was a secret until now that Yoda almost made an appearance in this particular episode.

His absence from the story was obvious, but still, many were expecting to see the great Jedi Master in one form or another. Now The Force Awakens editors, Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey, confirmed to ET that Yoda nearly made a cameo in the sequel.

They point out that:

"There was one point where we were actually thinking of having Yoda in the film, and then we decided not to. Frank Oz came in for a day and did a whole bunch of Yoda and he was over the moon to do it -- and we were tickled pink!"

Unfortunately they didn’t reveal what exactly Oz did on set.

Still, do you think the appearance of Yoda in Star Wars: The Force Awakens would have been a nice touch or was just hearing his voice enough?

Class Up Your Man Cave With These Movie-Inspired Woodcuts!

Readers and incredibly talented artists Engravers Dungeon reached out to us about showing some of their work, and I was more than happy to oblige! While most woodcuts I've seen always seem remarkably over priced, these woodcuts of Alien, Deadpool, and a ridiculous number of other films are pretty reasonable! They even have a Hellraiser Cube! Who doesn't want that? Check out the gallery below, and if you like what you see, find more at their website right here.

I'm thinking about getting either the Alien woodcut or the Groot one for my man cave.

The Top 5 Performances from HAIL, CAESAR! Ranked

0
0

This list may seem a bit deceptive for someone who has not watched Hail, Caesar! Honestly, I cannot say any role in the film was not played perfectly! Just because Scarlett Johannson and Jonah Hill didn't make the list doesn't mean their appearances were somewhat disappointing or unfit for the film. I echo Ben's notion that this is a damn good movie, and while everyone was fantastic, these five really had me the whole movie.

5. George Clooney — Baird Whitlock

It's a film where all Clooney really had to do was show up. Sure, this is a star-studded cast, but he's the name that's guaranteed to put butts in seats. While his performance isn't as shining as some of the other cast, he gives his all to the scenes he's in and really plays the douchey movie star role a little too well!

4. Channing Tatum — Burt Gurney

If you were to bring this film five years from now and ask me what I remember from it, it'll likely be Channing Tatum dancing in a sailor costume. The scene stretches on for quite a while, and I can only imagine the amount of time it took them to pull the entire sequence off! We don't see much of Burt Gurney, but the parts we do are worth it every time. My only wish is that he could have been in more of the film.

3. Tilda Swinton — Thora Thacker/Thessaly Thacker

Like you needed to be told Tilda Swinton was talented. She's great in nearly everything she does, and this was no exception! Without revealing too much, Swinton plays a set of twin sisters and plays them with such distinction I could tell them apart... unlike most identical twins I've met.

2. Alden Ehrenreich — Hobie Doyle

By far the biggest surprise of the film. He didn't even get a poster for the film's marketing, and he needs one! The least-known actor coming into this role absolutely steals the show as cowboy actor Hobie Doyle. All his scenes are laugh out loud funny and had most of the audience in stitches. I walked out of the theater hoping this film would serve as a big jumping off point for his career. "T'would that it were so simple," unfortunately.

1. Josh Brolin — Eddie Mannix

If Hail, Caesar! is a slew of eccentric and entertaining celebrity cameos, Josh Brolin is the glue that holds it all together. His straight man leading character makes the funny moments all the more funny, and really embodies every stereotype you could imagine of a good, hardworking, Catholic man of the 1950s. Eddie Mannix was a real man, and Brolin makes him feel real when you see him on screen. He probably won't win one, but Brolin deserves an award for the way he steers this ship.

Video Breaks Down How Long Phil Spent Stuck In GROUNDHOG DAY

When asked about how long Bill Murray's character Phil was actually stuck in Groundhog Day, director Harold Ramis originally said that Phil was trapped for around 10 years, but many people have speculated it's much longer than that. WhatCulture did a video a while back trying to guesstimate how much time it would take for the character to master all his skills, and the number they came up with is staggering. My only regret is that I'm not on my third Groundhog Day so I could've shared this when it was most relevant...

AMERICAN PSYCHO Filmmaking Team Developing Charles Manson Film THE FAMILY

american-psycho-filmmaking-team-develop-charles-manson-film-the-family

The filmmaking team who developed the 2000 cult hit American Psycho is getting the gang back together to make a film that tells the true story of Charles Manson. The movie is called The Family, and it’s being directed by Mary Harron from a script written by Guinevere Turner.

The film will tell the story of the infamous Manson family murders, and it will be told through the eyes of graduate student Karlene Faith as she works with three young, brainwashed women who were part of the cult.

The movie is based on Faith’s nonfiction book The Long Prison Journey of Leslie van Houten: Life Beyond The Cult and Ed Sanders’ controversial 1971 book about the infamous murders, The Family. According to Deadline, “the film is a procedural that will focus on Faith’s time attempting to teach the three women and on their personal transformations as they slowly grasp the reality of their crimes.”

If anyone can properly bring the horror of what Manson brought onto this world into movie form, it’s this talented team of filmmakers. There have been a few films that tell the story of Manson over the years, but none of them have been great or have been able to appropriately capture the story. Maybe this will be that film. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Casting is underway, and they are looking to start shooting the film this summer in Los Angeles.

Book description for The Long Prison Journey of Leslie van Houten: Life Beyond The Cult:

At The Age Of Twenty-One, Leslie Van Houten was sentenced to death, along with Charles Manson and his other disciples, for the infamous murder rampage spanning two nights in August 1969. Leslie, who was present at the Rosemary and Leno LaBianca stabbings, serenely accepted her sentence, wishing only that she had better served Manson in carrying out his apocalyptic vision of "Helter Skelter." When the United States temporarily suspended its death penalty, her sentence for murder conspiracy was converted to life in prison. Today, at the age of 51, after three trials and with no parole in sight, Leslie has become a remarkable survivor of a living nightmare. This work presents the first in-depth look at how this "girl-next-door" became one of Manson's "girls." It also tells about Karlene Faith's thirty-year friendship with Leslie, whom she met while teaching in prison. To everyone who encountered Leslie - including prison staff and television journalists - she was not the demon typically portrayed by the media, but rather a gentle, generous spirit who mourned her victims. But why didn't this intelligent young woman see the evil in the "messiah" who had sexually exploited her, preached a racist ideology, and ordered her to murder? Faith pieces together the puzzle, starting with Leslie's spiritual quest within the sixties counterculture and her immediate attraction to Manson during a chance meeting. We learn of Manson's ability to look into her mind and commiserate with her turmoil. We also see his own need to control women and how his brainwashing techniques enabled his followers to embrace him as God, giving them little choice but to obey. Leslie's journey out of Manson's grasp is a riveting feminist and spiritual story of recovering one's self. Why this rehabilitated woman, long punished for one man's madness, has not been able to leave prison is another story Faith brings to light. Filled with accounts of political injustices, this powerful book moves the reader to rethink the meanings and limits of guilt and punishment.

Book description for The Family:

In August of 1969, during two bloody evenings of paranoid, psychedelic savagery, Charles Manson and his dystopic communal family helped to wreck the dreams of the Love Generation. At least nine people were murdered, among them Sharon Tate, the young, beautiful, pregnant, actress and wife of Roman Polanski. Ed Sanders' unnerving and detailed look at the horror dealt by Manson and his followers is a classic of the true-crime genre. The Family was originally published in 1971 and remains the most meticulously researched account of the most notorious murders of the 1960s. Using firsthand accounts from some of the family's infamous members, including the wizard himself, Sanders examines not only the origins and legacy of Manson and his family, but also the mysteries that persist. Completely revised and updated, this edition features 25 harrowing black and white photos from the investigation. "One of the best-researched, best-written, thoroughly-constructed, and eminently significant books of our times…. A masterpiece."

See Bernie Sanders Play a Rabbi in a Low-Budget '90s Comedy

Don't take this as a political endorsement of any kind! We at Geektyrant try to remain as neutral as can be when it comes to stuff outside our geek expertise. We do concede, however, that a lot of the internet has been feeling the Bern, so I thought it would be interesting for you to see Bernie Sanders' debut on the silver screen. Reddit unearthed this low-budget comedy from 1999 called My Ex-Girlfriend's Wedding Reception.

The movie doesn't have too many people of note...Dom DeLuise and Mo Gaffney are its biggest names, if that tells you anything.

If the guy ever becomes president I'm sure whatever DVDs are floating around will become collectors items. See his cameo below!

Universal Sets Release Dates for FAST & FURIOUS Parts 9 and 10

Universal Pictures has no plans for slowing down their Fast & Furious franchise. The engines are revving, and they are going to get as much money as they possibly can from this. Vin Diesel revealed that the studio has announced release dates for the ninth and tenth installments of the franchise. Diesel has been saying for awhile that Furious 8 would be the first installment of a new trilogy. This obviously confirms the studio's plans for a total of ten films.

Who would have thought when The Fast and the Furious was released that it would turn into such a monster of a franchise!? Diesel says that these films are in part meant to honor the memory of Paul Walker, which is cool, but we all know the biggest factor in the decision to make these films is the money that will flood into the studio.

Furious 7 went on to pull in $1.516 billion worldwide, and Fast 8 is currently in development and set to be released on April 14th, 2017. The next film is being directed by Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray, and the usual suspects are set to reprise their roles. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are also expected to return. Part 9 will be released on April 19th, 2019 and Part 9 will hit theaters on April 2nd, 2021. I wonder if they'll keep making these movies after that. All I know is that these films have become incredibly entertaining and as long as the studio keeps making them, I'll watch them.

Here's what Diesel posted to Instagram:

Artist Creates Awesome HARRY POTTER Nordic School of Myth and Magic

artist-creates-awesome-harry-potter-nordic-school-of-myth-and-magic

Blizzard artist Even Amundsen had an idea to create a Nordic school of myth and magic in the Harry Potter universe. He brought his idea to life with these illustrations of the characters that would run the school which he calls Vølurheim.

J.K. Rowling has said that there are a whole new range of schools that exist in the Harry Potter universe. So it makes sense that there would be an ancient Nordic school, and there's no doubt it would be badass.

Look at this teaching staff! You'd have to be an extremely tough and hardcore student to make it through a school like this. Of course, if all the students are Nordic badasses, I'm sure they'll be fine. I've also included descriptions of the characters below each illustration. Here's the first for the character above:

Grimstav Draugsleiven: Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts

Here is another member of staff, the fearsome Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts, and veteran warlock of the Troll Wars, Grimstav Draugsleiven. Being one of the few wizards to have closely befriended and studied dwarf kind and has many of his tales engraved on his body in the form of tattoos that have been magically imbued with runes of protection and power, making him a very powerful wizard indeed. Even though dignified and reserved most of the time, he will make settling grudges a point of honor, and when irked might throw his robes aside and appear as one sees him here, ready teach some life lessons.

Kari “Mannevond” Sigfridsdottir: Professor of Charms and Curses

artist-creates-awesome-harry-potter-nordic-school-of-myth-and-magic1
Areit! Here is the second member of the faculty, Kari "Mannevond" Sigfridsdottir, professor of Charms and Curses at our little school. Areit! On to the next one:D

Torbjørn Jotunhorn: Headmaster of Vølurheim

artist-creates-awesome-harry-potter-nordic-school-of-myth-and-magic2
So I finished the Harry Potter books (again) not so long ago, and got the idea that it was incredibly unfair that we didn't have a school for the magical arts in Scandinavia. I mean, if they can see fit to open such establishments in England, France and Bulgaria, I think it only fair we have one up north as well, so here is our headmaster Torbjørn Jotunhorn

Mumrikk Stigandur: Professor of Herbology

artist-creates-awesome-harry-potter-nordic-school-of-myth-and-magic3
Areit here is our next wizard. He is a rather mellow type, a wanderer, thinker, a friend to the shy and the timid, and a true son of nature. Mumrikk Stigandur is the Professor of Herbology at our little school, when he is not wandering far and wide throughout the magical world. The design of this guy will probably be quite familiar to those of you who are fans of the Moomin series, as he is heavily inspired by the character Snufkin, who goes by Snusmumrikken in norwegian. Could not pass up a chance at giving one of my favorite characters of all time a little nod^^

Ragnhild: Professor of Dragon Lore and Care

artist-creates-awesome-harry-potter-nordic-school-of-myth-and-magic5
Third member of the faculty is the professor of Dragon Lore and Care, a specilaized class for senior students. Ragnhild Stubbemoen is a well known face in all circles where dragonlore is appreciated and is a world authority on the Norwegian Ridgeback. Ragnhild has held a teaching position at Vølurheim for an impressive 79 years and she is well known to get along better with her charges than with her students.

Hulda Kvænangsdottir: Professor of the Healing Arts

At last! The final member of the Vølurheim staff is Hulda Kvænangsdottir. She is the Professor of the Healing Arts, and for advanced senior students she also teaches a course in Ancient Blood Magic. She is one of the best known hulders to live openly amongst humans, and while it is common amonst her kinsmen to have a hard time feeling at home, she has found her place by sheer will of force. Her fascination with the old magicks, and her belonging amongst the hulderfolk, has her sympathetic to trolls and tusser (nordic feral goblins) and has her in almost constant conflict with Professor Draugsleiven

Dagfinn Snauholt: Keeper of Keys and Lights at Vølurheim

This is Dagfinn Snauholt, Keeper og Keys and Lights at Vølurheim. He is the sole nisse on staff, and wages a never ending war against the mice that make the school their home, accompanied by his proud steed, Knerten.

Jon Bernthal Says The Punisher Will Be Difficult To Like In DAREDEVIL

0

Jon Bernthal said some things to IGN about playing The Punisher that sent chills down my spine. After reading his comments about portraying Frank Castle in season 2 of Daredevil, I'm thinking fans are really going to be impressed with his portrayal. This guy gets it! Just hearing him talk about how he plays the role gives me goosebumps!

"I think this guy lives in a world of darkness that no other person in this universe can compare with. My goal here was to put myself in that darkness and bring that up and to never pull punches, to never do half measures, to never be apologetic, to never pursue likability at all, to be completely unapologetic at all times,"

Damn right. You don't have to feel sorry for The Punisher, he doesn't even feel sorry! For those looking for darkness this season, it's looking like Bernthal is going to deliver:

"You can lose the audience by episode 2. They could just be like, 'No matter what happens with this man, no matter what we learn about him, his actions in episode 1 and 2, I can’t get behind. In this day and age, with everything going on, I can’t get behind this man.' I love that because my goal and the team’s goal is to win them back and explain it and fill in the blanks and whether you can get behind him or not, you’ll understand him."

I'm seriously impressed with his analysis of Frank Castle. Bernthal is looking at him at a level on which I never examined the character! I'm ridiculously excited for this season now. If you want to read the full interview, check it out here.

Anna Kendrick and Miles Teller GET A JOB in New Comedy Trailer

0
0

Here's a trailer for a movie I thought might be buried forever. Get a Job was shot back in 2012, before Miles Teller was a star, right around the time Anna Kendrick gained some steam with the first Pitch Perfect, and when the topic of getting a job in a tough economy was a lot more topical (it's still tough out there, and I'm not an economist, but it seems that things have improved in the past four years). For whatever reason — Kendrick has speculated in the past that there was some issue with the distributor — the movie was shelved, but now it appears that it's finally getting a theatrical release...and they're not wasting any time, since it's coming to theaters next month.

I'm not sure that the delay has anything to do with the film's quality (remember how The Cabin in The Woods sat on a shelf for years?), but take a look at the trailer and see if it looks like something you'd dig. At the very least, it has a terrific cast, including Teller, Kendrick, Bryan Cranston, Alison Brie, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Marcia Gay Harden, John Cho, John C. McGinley, and more. Get a Job hits theaters and On Demand starting on March 25th.

Miles Teller, Anna Kendrick, and Bryan Cranston star in this wickedly funny comedy about making it in the real world. Life after college graduation is not exactly going as planned for Will (Teller) and Jillian (Kendrick) who find themselves lost in a sea of increasingly strange jobs. But with help from their family (Cranston), friends and coworkers they soon discover that the most important (and hilarious) adventures are the ones that we don't see coming.

Watch: 100 Years of Zombie Evolution in Pop Culture

Xbox has created a timelapse video to promote Dying Light: The Following that features an actor being made up to look like a bunch of different zombies that have been seen in pop culture over the years. It hits a couple of the high watermarks of the genre (Night of the Living Dead, The Walking Dead, etc), but even though I'm not an expert on horror movies, I feel like this is an incredibly simplistic trip through the history of the zombie on screen. Still, the makeup is pretty impressive. Take a look below:

Hot on the heels of yesterday's poster reveal, Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the studio's romantic drama Me Before You. Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) stars as a young woman running out of job prospects who takes work caring for a rich young man who's confined to a wheelchair. It looks like a very earnest love story, and it's co-written by Jojo Moyes (on whose book this film is based) and (500) Days of Summer writers Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, who also wrote The Fault in Our Stars and The Spectacular Now. Check out the trailer below, and let us know if you're going to check this one out.

Me Before You hits theaters on June 3rd.

Louisa “Lou” Clark (Clarke) lives in a quaint town in the English countryside. With no clear direction in her life, the quirky and creative 26-year-old goes from one job to the next in order to help her tight-knit family make ends meet. Her normally cheery outlook is put to the test, however, when she faces her newest career challenge. Taking a job at the local “castle,” she becomes caregiver and companion to Will Traynor (Claflin), a wealthy young banker who became wheelchair bound in an accident two years prior, and whose whole world changed dramatically in the blink of an eye. No longer the adventurous soul he once was, the now cynical Will has all but given up. That is until Lou determines to show him that life is worth living. Embarking together on a series of adventures, both Lou and Will get more than they bargained for, and find their lives—and hearts—changing in ways neither one could have imagined.

Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, and Zach Galifianakis Head to Space For THE SOMETHING

I'll watch just about anything that combines the talents of Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, and Zach Galifianakis, so the new sci-fi movie The Something already has me intrigued.

This is a passion project for Rodney Rothman, the writer of 22 Jump Street (awesome) and Grudge Match (yikes). THR says he'll make his directorial debut with this film about a crew of male astronauts who discover another ship out in space. This is a project that was first discussed about six years ago, and around that time, Rothman spoke with Collider about the movie, which was then billed as a horror/comedy:

“[It's] about four guys in space who have been there for five years and hate each other and it kind of becomes Alien.” He says he wants to cast “a couple of the really funny actors I know and then a couple other left-field actors. And they basically end up boarding a ship that has women on it. It’s the first time they’ve seen women in five years. And then shit just goes crazy.”

It's unclear whether the script has been changed where there are only three male astronauts now, or whether one remains to be cast. Either way, this sounds like it has the potential to be really funny, so we'll definitely be keeping our eye on this one and pulling for it to make it through the Hollywood development machine this time around.

Willem Dafoe is Marilyn Monroe in Snickers Super Bowl Spot

I've been seeing a lot of Super Bowl commercials hit the Internet recently, but so far this Snickers ad is the best and funniest one that I've seen. William Dafoe, who is best known for his role of the Green Goblin in the Spider-Man films, plays Marilyn Monroe in the commercial and it might just be his greatest and most ridiculous role to date! I love it.

The commercial recreates the iconic scene from 1955's The Seven Year Itch in which Monroe is standing over a subway grate and her skirt is blown up — only Defoe is the one wearing the dress! The spot also features a fun little cameo from Eugene Levy (American Pie) playing a fan operator.

We're less than two weeks away from the release of a live-action, R-rated Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds, which is a sentence I never thought I'd actually be able to accurately type. Our friends at IMAX sent over a new video that features Deadpool director Tim Miller presenting his geek bona fides to the audience and to try to convince you to see the film in the biggest possible format. Frankly, if you've been one of those people who've been excited about the possibility of a Deadpool movie for years, it only makes sense to experience this movie on the biggest screen you can, just to drink it all in.

Check out the featurette below, along with two international TV spots for the film. Deadpool hits theaters on February 12th.

THE FLASH and SUPERGIRL Crossover Episode Confirmed!

We've been hearing about a possible crossover between The Flash and Supergirl ever since Supergirl was first officially announced. Well, after a lot of back and fourth talk and conflicting information we've heard over the past several months, it has now been confirmed that the crossover between these two great shows is actually going to happen!

The CW has announced that The Flash star Grant Gustin will guest star in an episode of Supergirl and that episode is set to air on March 28th. There are no major plot details that have been revealed yet, but it will "bring Barry Allen (Gustin) to National City to meet titular heroine Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist)." Executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg had this to say in a joint statement:

“We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we started making ‘Supergirl’ – The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up! We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.”

Before this, it didn't sound like we would see a crossover like this happen anytime soon. Berlanti's tone was a lot different when he previously explained:

“[CBS] has said publicly at this point they’re going to keep her to themselves. I always approach the shows as a fan first, so I would love to see [a crossover]. I think in success, all things are possible. But there’s a lot that would have to happen before everybody might say yes to that.”

It's great to know that everything that needed to come together actually came together and that everyone said yes! These are two great shows with fantastic characters that I'm really enjoying and it's exciting to know that this crossover is officially happening. It will be interesting to see where it leads.
