Vin Diesel Shares Set Photos From XXX 3: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE

After launching the franchise fourteen years ago, Vin Diesel is coming back to the world of xXx with xXx 3: The Return of Xander Cage. Diesel is reprising his role as the extreme sports athlete-turned-secret-agent, and this time he's being joined by a cast that includes martial arts masters Jet Li and Tony Jaa, actresses Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries), Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black), and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, and franchise vet Samuel L. Jackson.

Diesel is finally on the set with director D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia), and he's shared some new photos with his hordes of online followers (seriously, if you didn't know, the dude has one of the biggest social media followings in the world):

First day on the sound stage...Xander...

Nothing super revealing here (other than that he refers to himself as Xander while in character on social media...which is kind of amazing), but you can hit up Vin's Instagram to see him riding waves on a jet ski during preproduction in preparation for one of the movie's many action scenes. No word yet on a release date for xXx 3, but we'll keep you posted.

AVATAR 2 Reportedly Starts Filming in April

Originally set to come out in December of 2014, James Cameron's Avatar 2 was recently bumped from its December 2017 release date and left in a limbo in which its release date is unspecified. But now a new report indicates that though we don't know when the film will hit theaters, we do know when Cameron plans to begin filming.

MyEntertainmentWorld (via ComingSoon) says that shooting is set to start in New Zealand in April of this year. Cameron recently spoke about bringing these movies to life:

"But I don’t consider [hitting a release date] to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart. I call it a meta-narrative that runs across the three movies. Each film stands alone, but it also tells one much larger story."

The plan is to film three new sequels back-to-back-to-back, so we'll see if that plan actually holds true or if he has to come up with some creative workaround to make this new trilogy.

The big question, of course, is: once these movies are done, will anyone care? It's been over six years since Avatar came out, and it essentially left no cultural footprint beyond its massive box office haul. But Avatar 2 is the follow-up to the highest-grossing movie of all time, something that even a juggernaut like Star Wars: The Force Awakens doesn't seem likely to overcome at this point. A big part of the reason for that is that Star Wars is not nearly as beloved in all international markets as it is in America, whereas Avatar did major, major business in foreign territories. Will those audiences turn out to support these sequels in the same way they did the original? Will Americans be interested in returning to Pandora again? What do you think?

The entertaining marketing campaign for Deadpool continues with a new "graphic info-graphic" banner that separates the douchebags from the heroes... with boobs. Yes, that is Deadpool smashed between boobs. Why did they make an infographic using boobs, you ask? Because Deadpool, silly! There are less than two weeks to go before we finally get to watch this movie that we've all been excitedly waiting for! Deadpool comes out on February 12th. Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy Will Be Back as Joker and Batman in New Animated Series

mark-hamill-and-kevin-conroy-will-be-back-as-joker-and-batman-in-new-animated-series

Cartoon Network is developing a new animated series called Justice League Action, and it will reunite Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and Joker. The two actors became legendary as these two DC characters when they starred in the classic 1990s Batman: The Animated Series. How freakin’ cool is it that they'll be working together again?!

Justice League Action will consist of 11-minute episodes just like Teen Titans Go! and this is the synopsis for the new show:

"Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman lead the DC Comics Super Heroes against their most infamous foes in adventures packed with relentless thrills, fun and action. No need to wait for the good stuff to start, each eleven-minute episode jumps in with lightning-paced action and heroics. Whether defending the Earth, facing invaders from space, or battling the bizarre forces of magic, the always-rotating team of Justice League heroes, are up to any challenge.”

The series will also star James Woods as Lex Luthor and Diedrich Bader as Booster Gold. As you can see in the poster above, other characters who will be featured in the series include Hawkman, Green Arrow, Zatanna, Shazam, The Flash, Blue Beetle, Plastic Man and more. I know this series won't be as good as Batman: The Animated Series, but hopefully it will at least entertain.

There’s no word on when the series will premiere, but it would make sense to me if they released it around the same time as they release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in March.

Visually Spectacular Sci-Fi Proof of Concept Trailer for ICKERMAN

Alright everyone, drop what you're doing and watch this visually stunning proof of concept trailer for a futuristic sci-fi thriller called Ickerman. Judging by what I've seen here, this project looks like it could be an impressive and awesome film. As you'll see it has a Drive and Blade Runner vibe to it that I really liked. Here's the synopsis:

Taking place in a futuristic megalopolis where new technologies and virtual reality are ruling society, ICKERMAN is an original story following a nostalgic teacher obsessed with 35 mm films and old cars. After a string of disturbing events, he falls into his imaginary world and starts acting like the characters he admires to deliver his best friend from the guru of this digital era.

The movie is set to be directed by French filmmaking duo Raphaël Hernandez and Savitri Joly-Gonfard. Ickerman will be their first feature film. The movie project is still in the process of finding the funding to make it, and the filmmakers are looking to start shooting the full film in 2017.

The trailer you are about to watch was shot in one night in Paris, and the VFX were completed in three months with one VFX artist working on it. On top of that, it was made on a small budget of only 1,000 euro. After you watch it, make sure to let us know what you think!

Dark Disney: The Real Stories Behind 10 Disney Animated Films - Part 2

A few months ago we posted a video that broke down some of the actual stories behind many of Disney's popular animated films. You can watch that here in case you missed it. ScreenRant decided to keep the ball rolling on this subject, and they've released a second video for you to watch. This one includes films such as Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, and more. There's lots of great information included here for those of you who aren't familiar with the darkness of the stories that Disney likes to turn into kids films.

Despite being kids movies, Disney films have a reputation for including dark elements like the death of a parent or villains hiding behind a pretty face. But the original stories many Disney movies are based on are even darker and more gruesome than what makes it into the final animated feature. We've already gone over the twisted tales behind Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and other popular animated films, but we've got even more dark stories that inspired Disney movies. Stick around until the end for a link to our other video about Dark Disney Stories! Here is Screenrant's Dark Disney: 10 REAL Stories Behind Popular Disney Films Part 2.

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE: Mary Elizabeth Winstead Talks About The Film's Secrecy

I've been a big fan of Mary Elizabeth Winstead for years, but I was as shocked as anyone to find out that her new "trapped in a basement" movie Valencia (sometimes called The Cellar) is actually going to be released as 10 Cloverfield Lane, a surprise title change from J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions. It remains to be seen exactly how the two movies will connect (is the monster from the first movie outside? Did John Goodman's character know about the New York attack before anyone else?), but you should definitely watch the trailer if you haven't already.

In a new interview, Winstead (who stars with Goodman and John Gallagher Jr.) spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the secrecy behind the new movie:

“There is this veil of secrecy to it from the very beginning. We were making this movie in this little bubble where nobody else knew what we were doing and there’s really only three actors in the whole thing, so it kind of felt like this really intimate experience. Now that it’s about to come out, it’s sort of crazy — like, ‘Oh yeah, people are excited to see this movie.’ I forgot that that was going to happen...
“It’s so much about just the actors interacting with each other and that tension that builds, just all wondering if they are who they say the are, if they’re telling the truth or not, and really wondering what’s outside."

When the film's poster was released, I speculated that maybe Valencia wasn't testing quite as well as the studio was hoping, so they did some rewrites to set this story in the Cloverfield universe in order to create more interest. It's a solid plan that seems to have worked, but Winstead claims the rewrites weren't very significant:

“We always have the script. We know where it’s all leading to. As production went on there were rewrites, as there usually are, but nothing that was major. It was always something that I knew we weren’t going to be able to talk about until people saw the movie.”

Hmmm. I don't know if I believe her, because as you all know, Bad Robot has a bit of a reputation when it comes to secrecy. I'm not sure we'll know the full story on this until years from now, because I'm guessing whatever is said at the press junket might not be the whole truth. We'll find out very soon. Meanwhile, /Film has a good breakdown of the viral marketing campaign that's slowly ramping up by activating a dormant site that was promoting the first film.

The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who rose to prominence when his short film Portal: No Escape went viral a few years ago. 10 Cloverfield Lane opens in theaters on March 11th, 2016.

Watch: STAR WARS Reimagined as an R-Rated Grindhouse Film

Mashable is back with a new entry in their Watercooler video series, which recuts the original Star Wars into an R-rated grindhouse film. George Lucas's space epic was so technologically advanced, it's sometimes easy to forget that the types of movies this trailer parodies were actually being released at the same time. I love the insane face Mark Hamill is making when they freeze-frame on him at the end of this video.

Revenge is a dish best served... in SPACE. What if Star Wars was originally produced as a grindhouse film? We cut a brand-new trailer to find out!

Surprising Details on Scoot McNairy’s Role in BATMAN V SUPERMAN

Ever since it was announced that Scoot McNairy was cast in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, everyone has been speculating who exactly he will be playing in the film. There were some set photos that leaked out early one featuring the actor wearing green knee-high socks which means there will be some kind of digital effects used, but for what?

Some people speculated that McNairy would be playing Metallo, others thought that he would be playing Jimmy Olsen, who was rumored to have been badly injured during the battle between Superman and General Zod in Man of Steel.

You can see McNairy sitting in a wheelchair in two places in the trailer. He is in the shots by the memorial for the Battle of Metropolis, and he’s in the shot when Superman shows up at a Senate hearing. Latino Review has found out what his character’s role in the story is, and it’s actually pretty surprising.

SPOILER WARNING:

"McNairy's wheelchair-bound character will be brought in to testify against Superman to the U.S. Senate, but also becomes a victim of Lex Luthor's campaign against the Man of Steel. One of Luthor's schemes in the movie involves turning McNairy's character into a human bomb of sorts, radicalizing him, in an attempt to get him close to Superman and to hurt him."

That’s sounds pretty damn intense. Is Lex going to use him to see how powerful Superman actually is, and if he could survive an explosion!? Lex sure is one evil bastard. I assume McNairy isn’t going to make it through this movie alive.

Daniel Radcliffe's SWISS ARMY MAN Is Ridiculously Fart-tastic - Sundance Review

$

0

The final film that I saw at the Sundance Film Festival this year was Swiss Army Man. This is one of those movies that people either loved or hated. I fell on the side of the people that loved it! It was such a strange, different, quirky, and original film. There was a lot of news about the film at Sundance because of how many people were walking out of the screenings.

In the film, Paul Dano plays a young man named Hank who is stuck on a tiny deserted island. The movie starts out with him preparing to kill himself when a dead body washes up on shore. The dead body is played by Daniel Radcliffe, and he is a farting corpse that is full of all kinds of crazy and surprising tricks, which is why the movie is called Swiss Army Man. The body basically becomes a tool for Hank to use to help him survive and find his way back home to the woman of his dreams.

For example, within the first 20 minutes of the movie, Hank is riding the dead body off the island and into the ocean like a motor-powered jet ski because of the powerful and constant farts that the body is unleashing. It’s amazing! There’s a lot more to the film than that, though. There’s a great, charming story with fantastic characters that makes this movie worth watching. The utter weirdness of the film is just the icing on the cake. These two characters embark on a wild adventure together.

The movie was directed by “The Daniels,” a music video directing duo that consists of
Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan. They let their insane creativity explode on the big screen with this film. It’s ridiculously absurd in the greatest of ways, and it’s full of unexpected surprises that I couldn’t help but love. It is such a fun adventure that also offers audiences a wide range of emotions, and it explores the awesomeness of what it is to be alive.

There are so many things to talk about regarding this film, but if I started to open up about it with you, then I would spoil a lot of aspects of it that made it such a unique and touching story. This is easily the strangest film that Dano and Radcliffe will ever make in their careers.

Swiss Army Man is a movie that must be experienced to fully appreciate! You cannot miss this one because it’s seriously unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. It has been picked up for distribution, so one day you’ll get your chance to check it out.

Villain and Star-Lord's Dad Have Been Cast in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

Marvel and director James Gunn have already cast the actors who will play Star-Lord’s father and the film’s villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Gunn confirmed the news himself during a Twitter Q&A. Of course, he didn’t reveal who had been cast, so we are still left to speculate on what exactly the director has planned.

It makes sense that these characters have already been cast. After all, the director recently did a script read with the full cast of the film, and I imagine these actors were present for that. Kurt Russell has been rumored for the role of Star-Lord’s dad, which would be amazing if that were actually the case.

We still have no confirmation of who exactly Star-Lord's dad is in the film, or who the main villain will be. My favorite Theory is that his dad is Starfox, and there was a recent rumor that Ego the Living Planet might be one of the villains, which would sure be interesting.

The movie is set to be released on May 5th, 2017. With the movie deep in development, I’m sure Marvel will start releasing some additional information in the near future. I also included a recent photo of Gunn rehearsing with a few of the actors that the director posted. It came with the following caption:

When someone's screwing up a scene during rehearsals I show them Dave Bautista (Batista) as an example of good acting. With Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, and Sean Gunn. #GotGVol2 — with Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista (Batista) and Sean Gunn.

2 Action-Packed BATMAN: BAD BLOOD Clips - “Nunjas” and “Airdrop”

$

Watch Nightwing dressed up as Batman team up with Batwoman to battle off a horde of Nunjas (Ninja Nuns) in one of two new clips that have been released for DC Entertainment’s animated film Batman: Bad Blood. The scene features the two “[encountering] a fortress heavily guarded by well-armed nuns.” It’s pretty damn entertaining to watch them beat the living hell out of these nuns. The second clip shows Batwing, Batwoman, Nightwing, and Robin dropping in to take on the bad guys.

When Batman goes missing, it will take the entire Bat “family” – including new additions Batwoman and Batwing – to keep the peace in Gotham City and unravel the mystery behind the Dark Knight’s disappearance in Batman: Bad Blood.

The voice cast features Yvonne Strahovski as Katherine Kane / Batwoman, Gaius Charles as Luke Fox / Batwing, Jason O'Mara as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Stuart Allan as Damian Wayne / Robin, Sean Maher as Dick Grayson / Nightwing, Morena Baccarin as Talia al Ghul, and Ernie Hudson as Lucius Fox.

The movie will be released on February 2nd, 2016 on Blu-Ray Deluxe Edition, Blu-Ray™ Combo Pack and DVD. It will also be available in Digital HD on January 19th, 2016.

Possible Details About a New Villain in ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY

$

We've all had a lot of fun speculating about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now tons of rumors have been circling around Star Wars: Rogue One with the same Force!

Now that the appearance of Darth Vader has been pretty much confirmed, we’ve got some details about a brand new villain who is going to have a huge role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. According to MakingStarWars, this character will be just as iconic, dangerous, and unmerciful as the powerful Sith Lord himself. Their inside source also reveals that the character wears an impressive white cape with a slit in the back. He is a leader of some sort and will also have a bad-to-the-bone sidearm and a fierce name.

MakingStarWars claims that in one scene he will be walking through Stormtroopers’ and Imperials’ squads. And by the look of it, the shot will mimic the scene when Darth Vader meets Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Information about who will star as the new villain in the standalone Star Wars movie hasn’t been unveiled yet, but it might be Ben Mendelsohn.

Whom do you think might be the actor behind this (hopefully) soon-to-be-announced character?

Here’s a fun series of art that features several Disney princesses made to look like X-Men characters. I know there might be some Disney Princess fatigue out there, but these are just too awesome not to share.

They were created by illustrator Diego Gómez, and as you can see, most of them were created using scenes from the movies that the Disney characters appeared in. Each one perfectly matches up with the X-Men character that he turned them into. My favorite in the bunch is Snow White as Jubilee.

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Teases Team Up With Golden and Silver Age Heroes

Legends of Tomorrow is raising the hero show bar in a big way for fans of DC comics. io9 reports that some pictures DC linked on their instagram account actually represent one silver age and three golden age heroes whom the legends will be teaming up with in the near future. Looks like the legends will soon be teaming up with Sgt. Rock, Hourman, Sandman, and Ma Hunkel...who was the original Red Tornado.

Comic fans are probably scratching their head at the last one. Why would DC choose to feature the original Red Tornado, who was literally an old woman without powers and fought crime with a pot on her head?

Of course, this isn't the first time some of these heroes have appeared in DC television. The JSA was mentioned briefly in episodes of Smallville...

If you haven't gotten on board with this show yet and you're a fan of alternate timelines and small time heroes getting their shine, THIS is the show for you!

Satanists Give Official Thumbs Up to THE WITCH

While it's not uncommon to hear The Vatican give its opinion on popular films, I can honestly say this is a first. NYMag reports that the The Satanic Temple has given The Witch 666 thumbs up and will be hosting four screenings at its headquarters. Temple leader Jex Blackmore went even further and said the movie was "more than a film" and "a transformative satanic experience."

I can't stop laughing. If you happen to live in LA, Austin, New York, or Detroit, you can attend their screenings. As for the rest of you, I guess you'll just have to draw a pentagram on your head or something.

The Witch comes out February 19th.

Punk Rockers vs. Neo-Nazis in Red-Band Trailer for GREEN ROOM

$

0

I had the opportunity to see Green Room at Sundance recently, and it was one of the best movies that I saw at the film festival. It is a hardcore film that is absolutely brutal. The movie stars Anton Yelchin as a punk rock guitarist who ends up playing a gig at an isolated neo-Nazi club in Oregon. Through a series of unfortunate events, he finds himself a witness to a murder, and he and his band get locked in a bloody battle for survival against the leader of these neo-Nazis, who is awesomely played by Patrick Stewart.

We have a red-band trailer for the film that gives you just a little taste of the crazy intensity that this movie has to offer. Green Room was written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier, who previously directed the incredible Blue Ruin. Green Room is his follow-up film, and I loved it! You can read my full review of the film here. One of the things I liked about this movie most is that it kept you guessing until the very end. This is one of those movies that was completely unpredictable for me.

Green Room opens in limited release on April 15th before getting a wide release on April 29th,.

GREEN ROOM is a brilliantly crafted and wickedly fun horror-thriller starring Patrick Stewart as a diabolical club owner who squares off against an unsuspecting but resilient young punk band. Down on their luck punk rockers The Ain’t Rights are finishing up a long and unsuccessful tour, and are about to call it quits when they get an unexpected booking at an isolated, run-down club deep in the backwoods of Oregon.  What seems merely to be a third-rate gig escalates into something much more sinister when they witness an act of violence backstage that they weren’t meant to see.  Now trapped backstage, they must face off against the club’s depraved owner, Darcy Banker (Stewart), a man who will do anything to protect the secrets of his nefarious enterprise.  But while Darcy and his henchmen think the band will be easy to get rid of, The Ain’t Rights prove themselves much more cunning and capable than anyone expected, turning the tables on their unsuspecting captors and setting the stage for the ultimate life-or-death showdown. Intense, emotional, and ingeniously twisted, Green Room is genre filmmaking at its best and most original. Saulnier continues to build his reputation as one of the most exciting and distinctive directors working today, with a movie that’s completely different from his previous, highly acclaimed Blue Ruin, but which is just as risk-taking and even more full of twists. The entire cast deliver first-rate performances, but Patrick Stewart gives a transformative and brilliantly  devious turn as Darcy-elegant yet lethal, droll yet terrifying, Stewart makes the film simply unforgettable.

Study Reveals Romantic Films Cloud People's Judgment When It Comes to Being Creepy

Have you ever loved someone? Have you ever had an unrequited love? Have you ever randomly showed up at a woman's house and watched her through her window while she changed, slept, or watched TV on her couch? Of course you haven't, because that's messed up, as well as a felony if you get caught. Yet all the time we are shown these actions as what the most desperate of men do to get the girl, and it's messing with our minds!

Glamour talks about a study that revealed women who watch a lot of romantic films are far less able to spot dangerous situations when it comes to stalkers, and even sometimes mistake stalking for acts of love. At first I laughed this off as a "who actually believes this" kind of thing. Then I started reading that 76% of women murdered by an intimate partner were first stalked by that person before starting a relationship with them.

Ladies... you don't date the guy who will drop notes at your door at 3 am but won't approach you in broad daylight. Guys, don't use romantic films as a model for how to pursue a relationship...you will get arrested.

Remember, if they're crazy enough to follow you around for a week straight and make mixtapes to your life, they're also crazy enough to stab you 40 times when you tell them you have plans Friday night.

Wildly Crazy TV Spot for ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

Disney has released a TV spot for their upcoming fantasy adventure film Alice Through the Looking Glass. This is the sequel to Alice in Wonderland, which I wasn’t the biggest fan of. This next chapter in the story continues the wild and crazy adventure of Alice as she goes on a journey through time to save the Mad Hatter. I’m not that excited about this movie, but my kids are, and it's a movie I don’t mind taking them to see.

Alice Kingsleigh (Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland and her friends the White Rabbit (Sheen), Absolem (Rickman), the Cheshire Cat (Fry) and the Mad Hatter (Depp), who is not himself. The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends – and enemies – at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race to save the Hatter before time runs out.

James Boin (The Muppets) directed the Tim Burton-produced sequel, and it stars Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, and Helena Bonham Carter along with the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, and Timothy Spall. The movie also stars Rhys Ifans and Sacha Baron Cohen as the villain.

Alice Through the Looking Glass opens in theaters on May 27th, 2016.
