Cool Behind-the-Scenes Look at FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

$

J.K. Rowling is taking fans back to the world of Harry Potter in Warner Bros. latest project, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. She wrote the script for the film, which is being directed by David Yates. The movie is going to introduce us to a ton of new characters that existed in America in the 1920s, years before the events of Harry Potter.

The story centers on Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a British magizoologist who travels to New York City with a case full of magical creatures. The creatures in that case end up escaping, and that's what sparks the adventure.

During the Celebration of Harry Potter 2016 in Orlando, Florida, a behind the scenes featurette was released that offers up some footage and additional information from the film that fans are going to want to see. It also includes interviews with members of the cast and crew.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens November 18th.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is an all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling.
Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) stars in the central role of wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” blockbusters.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures.  Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” also stars Katherine Waterston (“Steve Jobs,” “Inherent Vice”) as Tina; Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”) as Jacob; Alison Sudol (“Dig,” “Transparent”) as Tina’s sister, Queenie; Ezra Miller (“Trainwreck”) as Credence; two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton (“In America,” “Sweet and Lowdown”) as Mary Lou; Oscar winner Jon Voight (“Coming Home,” TV’s “Ray Donovan”) as Henry Shaw, Sr.; Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films) as Gnarlack; Carmen Ejogo (“Selma”) as Seraphina; Jenn Murray (“Brooklyn”) as Chastity; young newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty; and Colin Farrell (“True Detective”) as Percival Graves.
The film marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, whose beloved Harry Potter books were adapted into the top-grossing film franchise of all time.  Her script was inspired by the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, written by her character Newt Scamander.
The film reunites a number of people from the “Harry Potter” features, including producers David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.
Collaborating with Yates behind the scenes are: Oscar-winning director of photography Philippe Rousselot (“A River Runs Through It,” the “Sherlock Holmes” movies), three-time Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig (“The English Patient,” “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Gandhi,” the “Harry Potter” films), three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Alice in Wonderland”), Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Tim Burke (“Gladiator,” the “Harry Potter” films), Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor Christian Manz (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1”), and Yates’ longtime editor Mark Day (the last four “Harry Potter” films).
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which was home to the “Harry Potter” films for a decade.  Some scenes were also shot on location in Liverpool, England.
Warner Bros. Pictures has slated “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” for worldwide release in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX on November 18, 2016.

Hey guys! Jeff Victor created a couple new pieces for his ongoing “Evolution” art series! These represent some of the famous movie characters played by Harrison Ford and Samuel L. Jackson. I’ll also use this as an opportunity to tell you that Victor has started a Kickstarter campaign for his awesome new art book, Adorkable, that is a must own if you're a fan of his stuff. If you want to donate and help him out, click here

For the Harrison Ford piece above, Victor says:

“This one is of one of my favorite actors of all time- Harrison Ford. His portrayals of Han Solo and Indiana Jones are legendary, but he's also an accomplished dramatic actor in such films as Witness and the Fugitive. I tried to give a good overview of his career, choosing his most iconic roles. Which is your favorite Harrison Ford movie? Lemme know in the comments!”

This is what he had to say about his Jackson illustration:

One of the undisputed coolest cats in Hollywood, Samuel L. Jackson is also one of the most versatile and powerful actors in the business. Trying to pick his most signature roles was a daunting task indeed. Which is your favorite of his roles? Let me know in the comments!

Trailer for the Pointless Remake of CABIN FEVER

The first trailer has been released for the remake of Eli Roth’s 2002 horror gore-fest, Cabin Fever, and it doesn’t look much different than the original film. I actually kind of enjoyed the first movie, but I have no desire to watch this remake. It’s completely pointless. It’s the same freakin’ story but with different actors. Why was money wasted on remaking this movie?

A group of five friends rent a getaway cabin in the woods and begin to fall victim to a horrifying flesh-eating virus, which attracts the unwanted attention of the homicidal locals.

The movie was directed by Travis Zariwny, who is a former production designer and camera assistant, and the cast includes Gage Golightly, Matthew Daddario, Nadine Crocker, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Louise Linton, and Randy SchulmanCabin Fever hits theaters on February 12th.

Scientists Say We Could Probably Outrun a T-Rex If We Were Chased

FINALLY, the important questions are answered. Scientists have revealed that it is indeed possible to outrun a T-Rex a la Jurassic World. Discover Magazine says that although the T-Rex was massive, scary, and an overall killing machine, it was likely rather slow...

The researchers estimated the walking speed of the T. rex to be 2.7 to 5 mph, which is much slower than, say, Usain Bolt, who clocks in a maximum sprinting speed of 27.3 mph. For context, the average walking speed for a human hovers around 3 mph. The calculated speed indicates T. rex was traveling at a slow trot, and at a speed similar to other large carnivorous dinosaurs. Still, even when walking, tyrannosaurs moved covered more ground in a single step than the large herbivores that they coexisted with and presumably hunted.

That's good... but what about when they run? Scientists say that while it was possible that a T-Rex could have run, their bone structure shows evidence that they were far more likely to walk most of the time. Seeing as they hunted larger animals, there really was never a need to do anything other than a brisk walk.

Oh, and you could definitely leave a T Rex in the dust if you had a Jeep.

So basically, as long as you aren't in an open field with nothing larger to eat ,you'll likely survive your encounter with a T-Rex. I like those odds! Somebody call up an eccentric billionaire with an island!

Let Your Testosterone Rage with the Trailer for BOYKA: UNDISPUTED

$

Ever since its birth, the Undisputed franchise has gotten a bad rep. Critics universally panned the original film in which Wesley Snipes battles a heavyweight champion in prison to gain his freedom.

While I'll admit the series has been far from Oscar-worthy, it's still enjoyable to me. Then again, I'm the kind of guy that enjoys sitting through bad kung fu films with ridiculous premises. On that note, let's bring you up to speed on the state of the franchise. Yuri Boyka (played by Scott Adkins) is a bad ass Russian who's one goal in life is to kick ass.

I'll admit I haven't watched Undisputed 3... but somewhere between 2 and now, Yuri went from being the main villain to the goodish guy. The plot doesn't really matter. What matters is there is ass kicking and serious dialogue to the point of hilarity. Watch the trailer escalate from 1 to off the charts in a ridiculously short time.

This one will likely be a straight to DVD release, so keep an eye on Netflix for it in the near future.

Samurai-inspired Designs for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Characters

feudal-samurai-inspired-designs-for-star-wars-the-force-awakens

Over the years, we’ve seen a few cool sets of art featuring Star Wars samurai redesigns, but now we have a series of them that were inspired by the characters of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

The collection of art was created by Nikolas A. Draper-Ivey and it is pretty damn awesome! All of them are great, but one of the pleasant surprises that I wasn’t expecting was BB-8 being redesigned as a dog. It works so perfectly!

The characters include Samurai Kylo Ren, Feudal Rey, Ronin Finn, Commander Poe, Samurai Taichou Phasma, Ashigaru Nines, and Akita BB-8.

We Might See a More Verbal Hulk in THOR: RAGNAROK

$
0
0

About a month ago, Mark Ruffalo was talking about how the Hulk will be portrayed in Thor: Ragnarok. At the time, he said, "The Banner/Hulk consciousness is beginning to meld a little bit." Throughout the course of the films we've heard the Hulk say little things like "puny God," but it sounds like the character might be more verbal in the upcoming Thor movie. During an interview with HitFix, director Taika Waititi sids that certain element of the Hulk is still being discussed. He explained:

"It's interesting, because at the moment, there's a big conversation that's happening about how far to push that. Whether or not The Hulk should be [verbal/conscious]. I think a lot of those conversations have more to do with what's going to come up in future movies. So I think a lot of those decisions are larger group decisions, rather than anything to do with just me or the writer. They have a lot of stuff that they have to consider. But I do think that's the best way to track it. I think we all want that. I think we all want to see that development and the evolution of that character. I also think you can do it in a fun way."

Ruffalo revealed that Marvel has planned an epic story arc for Hulk that will start in Thor: Ragnarok and play through the two Avengers: Infinity War films. So if he talks more in this film, you can bet that will evolve even more as his story continues in the MCU.

As you may have seen, there have been some concerns over Waititi bringing more humor into the upcoming Thor film. I've seen some people say to the director, "you better not f**k it up!" The story of Thor: Ragnarok is an apocalyptic event, in which the realm of Asgard unknowingly experiences an endless cycle of death and rebirth. That doesn't mean there can't be humor! And if you've seen the work that Waititi has done with the previous films he has directed, then you know the guy has a talent for perfectly balancing drama and humor. In regards to those complaints, the director said:

"It's not going to be a crazy comedy, like over the top. But that’s definitely my strength and that's what they were looking for when they approached me. So, I think that is the thing I can bring to it to give it a different spin and freshen it up a bit."

Let's face it, Thor hasn't been the most popular standalone franchise for Marvel. Lots of fans complain about the Thor films, more than the others. Thor could definitely use a fresh take, and when talking about his focus on the film the director said:

"My focus really is making sure that Thor is the best character, though... Yeah, well that is my goal! Because he's got to be. And it should be that way."

I think that Waititi will give us the best Thor movie yet, and if you're a fan of the character, then this is a movie to get excited about. The movie hits theaters on November 3rd, 2017.

Watch LG's Super Bowl Commercial Starring Liam Neeson Directed by Ridley Scott

This is a prime example of something that sounds great on paper, but looks really poor in execution. Maybe I'm being too harsh. It is, after all, just a television commercial. Still, you would imagine Liam Neeson and Ridley Scott could've mustered up something maybe just a bit greater than what LG gave us in 60 seconds!

The commercial is seeming to get universally panned with sites like The Verge calling it a "bad TRON ripoff."

Even if the commercial is "not bad," it's definitely not winning any buzz awards here. Watch and react below.

Spine-Tingling New Trailer for THE WITCH - "Peek-A-Boo"

spine-tingling-new-trailer-for-the-witch-peek-a-boo

The Witch is one of the darkest and most psychologically disturbing horror films that I've seen in a long time. I saw the movie last year at Sundance, and it made my list of best movies that I saw in 2015. It is a must-watch film, especially if you're into watching some twisted shit. That's not the only reason to see it, though! The story, acting, cinematography, writing, music, and setting are all amazing! You can read my full review of the film here.

We've got a new trailer for you to watch today called "Peek-A-Boo," and after you watch it, you may not ever want to play peek-a-boo with a baby again. It offers a little taste of how unsettling this movie is. Here's the synopsis:

Set in New England circa 1630, The Witch follows a farmer who get cast out of his colonial plantation and is forced to move his family to a remote plot of land on the edge of an ominous forest rumored to be controlled by witches. Almost immediately, strange and unsettling things begin to happen-the animals turn violent, the crops fail, and one of the children disappears, only to return seemingly possessed by an evil spirit. As suspicion and paranoia mount, everyone begins to point the finger at teenage daughter Thomasin. They accuse her of witchcraft, which she adamantly denies…but as circumstances become more and more treacherous, each family member’s faith, loyalty, and love will be tested in shocking and unforgettable ways.

The Witch was the feature film debut of Robert Eggers, who created something incredible. It's one of those films that I'll never forget. The movie stars Anya Taylor-Joy, and it's set to be released on February 19th! This is a movie you do not want to miss!

Out of all the things I'm excited to see in Hail Caesar! near the top of the list was Channing Tatum singing in one of those old school musicals. You also gotta love the innuendo in this one as well.

I've got an incredibly cool series of Disney-inspired poster art for you to check out that reimagines several of our favorite Disney characters in the style of Tim Burton. The illustrations include Pinocchio, The Little Mermaid, The Beauty and the Beast, 101 Dalmatians, Snow White, AladdinBambi, The Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, and Dumbo. Now I just want to see all of these movies reanimated in this style. All of the voice work and sound effects can stay the same, but the look of the film in this style would be pretty damn awesome.

The poster art you see here was wonderfully created by artist Andrew Tarusov, and I hope you enjoy the collection!

Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg On Recasting Wolverine: "I Can't Imagine Anyone Else Playing The Part"

$
0
0

It was a given that Hugh Jackman couldn't play the role of Wolverine forever, and a while back, the actor announced that the third solo Wolverine film would be his last time donning the claws. Naturally, 20th Century Fox is going to want to keep pumping out X-Men movies for as long as they can so the rights to the characters don't revert back to Marvel Studios, which led many fans to believe that the studio was going to be recasting Wolverine after Jackman bows out. (Conan O'Brien has some casting suggestions.) But X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer and writer/producer Simon Kinberg don't seem to be convinced that's how it's going to happen.

In an interview with Digital Spy, the duo agreed that it would be incredibly tough to recast the role:

For all the recasting that's already gone on in the X-Men series, Singer and Kinberg were unanimous on one point: recasting Wolverine would be impossible. "I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories," Kinberg allowed. "So either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chicken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward. Honestly, I can't imagine anybody else playing the part, and there's not too many characters I can say that for."

Fans would probably love to see Jackman continue to play the part for as long as possible, but let's get real: I find it very difficult to believe that the studio would just stand by and not recast him should he decide that Wolverine 3 really is the last time he'll play the character. Thanks to Jackman's stellar work playing him for over fifteen years, Wolverine is too iconic to be relegated to the back burner. So as nice as Kinberg and Singer are being about it here, when the time eventually comes, you can bet that someone else will be rocking those adamantium claws, chomping on a cigar, and calling people "Bub."

Jackman's (supposedly) last movie as Wolverine, a still-untitled collaboration with The Wolverine director James Mangold, is scheduled to hit theaters on March 3rd, 2017.

Hero Complex Gallery Unveils New Scarlett Johansson Poster For HAIL, CAESAR!

Hero Complex Gallery is one of the coolest art galleries in the country, and one of the best places in Los Angeles to see awesome pop culture-inspired artwork of all kinds. They've teamed up with the Coen Brothers and Universal Pictures to work with artist Chuck Sperry on a premiere poster for the new movie Hail, Caesar!, which hits theaters on February 12th. Check it out below:

16.75" x 35"
10 Color screen print on cream paper
Metallic inks and sepia glaze
Signed and Numbered
$60

Sperry had this to say about the project:

"I am incredibly honored to have been asked to make a poster for the Coen Brothers' newest film, "Hail, Caesar!" to celebrate the movie's premier.

"The Starlet" is my movie poster of Scarlett Johansson, in her role as the brassy, troubled movie star of 1950's swimsuit extravaganza.
I wanted to cast my poster in a Film Noir style. I limited the palette, but increased the number of colors printed to ten colors, to give my poster a classic movie poster appearance. Two metallics, two spot colors, and a sepia toned shadow glaze combine with five additional colors to create an atmospheric 1950's Los Angeles backlot studio office."

The piece goes on sale at 10am PT this morning, and will only be available while supplies last. This is a really cool style — I love those classic diagonal lines running across Johansson's character. For more, be sure to visit Hero Complex's official site. I'll have a review of Hail, Caesar! when the embargo lifts on Wednesday, so stay tuned for that.
