SMALLVILLE’s Laura Vandervoot Joins SUPERGIRL

Laura Vandervoot, the actress who fantastically played Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl, on The CW’s Smallville series has been cast in CBS’ Supergirl! She will appear in the fifteenth episode of the series as the villain Indigo.

The producers of Suergirl describe the character as "a living, strong-willed supercomputer that was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton. Now on Earth, Indigo will let nothing stand in her way."

I loved Vandervoot’s version of Supergirl, and when I first heard that a new Supergirl series was being made, I hoped that she would be cast. It obviously didn’t work out that way, and that’s ok because Melissa Benoist is awesome in the role! Vandervoot even supported her in a previous interview with IGN, offering Benoist some advice:

“Just make it your own. Everyone has an idea of how she should be, which I was concerned about when I played her, but, when you find a way to relate to her and then bring in your own self into it, I think people appreciate it. You can’t make everything the same, so just make it your own.”

Benoist has done a great job doing that. It will be cool to see these two actresses face off with each other in this upcoming episode. Supergirl returns with a new episode next Monday on CBS.

DEADPOOL Creator Wants Jon Hamm to Play Cable

Last year, director Tim Miller said that if he gets to make a sequel to Deadpool he would want to include fan-favorite character Cable in it. He said at the time:

"We kind of wanted a straight-man to play against Colossus. We thought about Cannonball, but he would’ve been a stupid hick character, whereas the guys wrote Negasonic as this deadpan goth teen, which was a great angle. She turned out really well. There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable. If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2, I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail."

I think it’s pretty much guaranteed we’ll see Cable in a Deadpool sequel, if the sequel happens! The big question is… who will play the character? If Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has anything to say about it, he’d want to cast Mad Men star Jon Hamm in the part, and after seeing the fan photoshop image he posted, I couldn’t agree with him more! Here’s the tweet he sent out!

Hamm recently took home the Best Actor Award in a TV drama at the Golden Globes this past weekend. Cable is a great character, and it would be great to see Hamm talk on the challenge of playing him. I think he would completely nail it.

I think Hamm and Ryan Reynolds would work really well together. On top of that, there’s a New Mutants movie currently in development that Cable could easily be a part of as he was a mentor to the young heroes in the team’s early years.

I hope Miller and 20th Century Fox read the internet because this is a casting opportunity they shouldn’t pass up on. Do you Think Hamm would make a solid Cable?

I don't think I've seen a lightsaber this detailed, not even in the Star Wars films. Martin Beyer of Graflex Saber took his custom creation above and beyond on the outside and inside! This thing has a soundboard, the ability to change colors, and an actual lightsaber crystal within that you can remove and reconstruct like you are a real Jedi!

Seriously, the level of detail on this is astounding and must have taken an extreme number of hours to build. Unfortunately, Beyer is not selling these, but you can check out this and his other 3D work on his site!

Chilling New Trailer for the Horror Thriller THE WITCH - "Paranoia"

The Witch is the best horror movie I saw last year. It's the stuff that nightmares are made out of. This is a meticulously made film, and it's one of those films that I think audiences will walk away from in awe of what they just saw. We've got a haunting new trailer for you to watch today called "Paranoia," and it gives you a little tease of the insanity that this movie entails.

The story is set in New England in the 1600s, and it revolves around the age-old concepts of witchcraft, black magic, and possession. These things are all brought together to tell an intimate story of one family’s descent into terrifying paranoia and madness. The Devil is among them, and he wants this family to be torn apart in the most brutal of ways.

The film was written and directed by first-time feature film director Robert Eggers, and he did some amazing things to bring this story to the big screen. Make sure to read my review of the movie to get my full insight on it. Here's the synopsis:

In this exquisitely made and terrifying new horror film, the age-old concepts of witchcraft, black magic and possession are innovatively brought together to tell the intimate and riveting story of one family’s frightful unraveling in the New England wilderness circa 1630. New England, 1630. Upon threat of banishment by the church, an English farmer leaves his colonial plantation, relocating his wife and five children to a remote plot of land on the edge of an ominous forest – within which lurks an unknown evil. Strange and unsettling things begin to happen almost immediately – animals turn malevolent, crops fail, and one child disappears as another becomes seemingly possessed by an evil spirit. With suspicion and paranoia mounting, family members accuse teenage daughter Thomasin of witchcraft, charges she adamantly denies. As circumstances grow more treacherous, each family member’s faith, loyalty and love become tested in shocking and unforgettable ways. Writer/director Robert Eggers’ debut feature, which premiered to great acclaim at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival – winning the Best Director Prize in the U.S. Narrative Competition – painstakingly recreates a God-fearing New England decades before the 1692 Salem witch trials, in  which religious convictions tragically turned to mass hysteria. Told through the eyes of the adolescent Thomasin – in a star-making turn by newcomer Anya Taylor-Joy – and supported by mesmerizing camera work and a powerful musical score, THE WITCH is a chilling and groundbreaking new take on the genre.

The Witch comes out on February 19th, 2016 and it's one of the must watch films of 2016!

Ski-Free Is Resurrected In This Dark Short

I've never met a person who doesn't remember playing Ski-Free on their old Windows computer. I put it above Minesweeper, Solitaire, and even FX Pinball 2 on my all-time free games that come on your computer list! In this short clip we see the infamous snow monster taking vengeance on these skiers who've been on the slopes too long.

Fun fact: Did you know there is actually a way to avoid being eaten by the snow man? You just had to press F to speed up and you could get out of his grasp! Why did they never put that at the beginning of the game?!

Colin Trevorrow Talks STAR WARS: EPISODE IX and Responds to the Petition to Bring Lucas Back

The day that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow saw the petition to have him replaced by George Lucas as the director of Star Wars: Episode IX, he was giving a big inspirational speech at Lucasfilm to get everyone pumped up about working on the movie.

That must have been a little awkward. For those of you who don't know, a few days ago a petition was launched by a group of Star Wars fans who want to see Lucas come back to direct the ninth installment of the saga. The petition currently has 20,585 signatures. They can petition all they want, but Trevorrow isn't going anywhere. On top of that, Lucas wouldn't even do it if they asked.

I'm happy that Trevorrow is taking on Star Wars! I think he'll bring the trilogy to a close in an epic and bold way. During a brief interview with ET, Trevorrow was asked if he saw the petition, and he explained what he said to his Star Wars: Episode IX team in preparing to take on this highly anticipated project:

"I saw that, and it was on a day where I was at LucasFilm giving this big speech to everyone about how we want to channel the invention and just the raw creativity and the boldness that George brought to these films and not being afraid that we're going to embarrass ourselves by doing something that might be crazy.

"When George Lucas made Star Wars, a lot of people thought it was crazy. When you try to pitch what that movie's about -- if you've never heard of Star Wars before, you say, ‘Here's a character. His father's part robot, but he can also do magic. And there's a guy who can fly in a spaceship. He's got a dog for a friend!' -- it sounds insane. But it's the greatest story ever told. I just want to embrace that kind of invention and creativity that he brought to it."

I love his enthusiasm and the fact that he really wants to be bold and insane with the decisions that they make while developing this movie and embrace the creative insanity of Lucas. Having the freedom to let your imaginations run wild is pretty cool for a project like this. I'm sure some great things will come of it.

What do you think about what Trevorrow had to say about how he is going approach this project? Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters on May 24th, 2019.

Marvel Developing a Second Comedy Series at ABC

We already knew that Marvel was developing a series for ABC called Damage Control. That’s the show that will tell the story of a group of people who clean up the messes left by superheroes doing battle in the city.

While at the Television Critics Association press tour party, ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee talked to IGN and had this to say about Damage Control:

"That's the one that's going to be coming out this season. I haven't read it yet. I can't wait to see it. We hope it's going to be great."

He went on to reveal that Marvel is working on another separate comedy series. He didn’t give any information on what it would be about. All he said was:

"We definitely want to do Marvel comedies as well as dramas and of course, as you know, we supply lots of dramas to Netflix.”

Lee was then asked about the DC Comics Universe Office-style comedy Powerless, and if he was concerned about it. His reply to that was:

"Our job is to make great television. We pick up the best scripts we can, we put in the best casts. Our job is to make great TV."

Marvel has been doing a solid job with the drama series’ they’ve developed already. I can’t wait to see them take things to a comedic level. I hope these two new shows that they’re developing end up being entertaining.

George Miller Says He Will Not Do Any More MAD MAX Films

I promise I'm as heartbroken as you are reading this headline. George Miller told Page Six that Mad Max: Fury Road would mark his exit from the franchise....

"I’ve shot in Australia in a field of wild flowers and flat red earth when it rained heavily forever. We had to wait 18 months and every return to the US was 27 hours. Those ‘Mad Maxes’ take forever. I won’t do those anymore.”

It should be noted that Miller was slated to shoot this film back in 2010, but had to stop once the area for filming had a ridiculous amount of rainfall and transformed the desert wasteland into a green zone with wildflowers. The process took much longer than Miller would've liked, and while I think he still enjoys the franchise, he's probably looking at his age and thinking he'd like to do a couple more movies as opposed to half of one.

Obviously, this is a big disappointment to all of us, as Fury Road was easily one of the best films of last year. It's a shame it was snubbed at the Golden Globes. So if Miller is out, who would you like to see in?

Watch the First Minute from THE X-FILES 2016 Premiere!

The premiere of The X-Files revival series is only a couple weeks away, and I'm giddy as hell! To give you an idea of how excited I am for this, The X-Files coming back like this is just as big for me as Star Wars: The Force Awakens was. This is one of the greatest series ever created, and it's coming back! Hopefully it's just as strong and powerful as it was when it came to an end.

While we wait for the series to launch, Fox has released the very first minute of the premiere episode. In it, Fox Mulder gets us all caught up on his past and how his obsession led him to taking on the X-Files. Just because the FBI shut it all down, it doesn't mean he's going to stop. He wants to know the truth of all things.

The new X-Files episodes return to Fox with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, January 24th, and continuing on Monday, January 25th. To catch up on all of the news that we've posted for the upcoming series, click here.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their iconic roles as Agent Fox Mulder and Agent Dana Scully in the upcoming event series which will encompass a mixture of stand-alone investigative episodes and those that further the original show’s seminal mythology. In the opening episode, Mulder and Scully take on a case of a possible alien abductee. The all-new episodes will feature appearances by guest stars, including Joel McHale (“Community”), Robbie Amell (“The Flash”), Lauren Ambrose (“Dig,” “Six Feet Under”), Annabeth Gish (“The Bridge”), Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”), Rhys Darby (“Flight of the Conchords”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”) and William B. Davis, who reprises his role as “Cigarette Smoking Man.” Three of the episodes are written and directed by Chris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by original series veterans Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong.
The X-Files originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder (David Duchovny), as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

A Minor FLASH Villain May Have A Much Larger Role Next Season

*Spoilers for The Flash are abound in this article...don't read it if you don't want to know*

The TCAs have provided a wealth of information as far as fans of The Flash are concerned. A couple days ago we learned that Kevin Smith will be directing an episode, and now Collider is saying a minor villain will likely be the primary antagonist of next season! Who? Gorilla Grodd...oddly enough. Yes I know he's one of Flash's primary villains in the comics, but in the terms of the show he's been in what...two episodes? Many are taking the statement made by executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, who stated he'd like to do multi-episode storyline with the villain...

“I would liken the Gorilla City thing to Ra’s al Ghul. You know, you hear about 'the man from Nanda Parbat' in [Arrow] Season 1, and 'the man who showed Malcolm the way,' and then you met Nyssa, then in Season 3 you met Ra’s. So, it’s a long-term thing.”

I'm not opposed to the idea, but I am wary at Grodd having so much screen time. The CGI on him is "alright" for television standards, but man... If you have him on screen for any extended amount of time it's really noticeable there's a computer character on screen. Maybe if they found a way to make it a little more animatronic or threw some extra money at the budget I'd be down.

New Trailer For The Coen Brothers' HAIL, CAESAR!

Here's the latest trailer for the Coen Brothers' 1950s-set comedy Hail, Caesar!, which is set in the middle of Hollywood's Golden Age and revolves around a missing movie star (George Clooney) and the studio fixer (Josh Brolin) tasked with tracking him down.

This trailer is incredibly repetitive, but it's not the first time the Coens have used repetition in their advertising to good effect. Remember the trailer for A Serious Man? It's not the same thing, but you can see where I'm coming from with the comparison:

In any case, this might not be the best representation of Hail, Caesar! since I'd guess that this exchange probably won't happen in the film (at least not in the length it happens here). But knowing the basic plot (below), the talented cast, and the writer/directors involved, I'm hoping this turns out to be one of the better Coen Brothers comedies instead of something along the lines of The Ladykillers. We'll find out when the film hits theaters on February 5th.

Four-time Oscar®-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, True Grit, Fargo) write and direct Hail, Caesar!, an all-star comedy set during the latter years of Hollywood's Golden Age.  Starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Channing Tatum, Hail, Caesar! follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix.

Hear Linkin Park's "In The End" Sung By 183 Movies

So many people nowadays want to hate on Linkin Park. Fact is, these guys were killing it back in the day and not a damn person was talking bad about them back then! Granted, they lost quite a bit of cred when they became the official soundtrack theme song providers for every Transformers movie...but I digress. What I'm trying to say is I really, really, really like this video of 183 films singing "In The End" made by The Unusual Suspect. If you remember when Linkin Park was the business, you will too.

QUANTICO Star Priyanka Chopra In Talks For BAYWATCH Movie

Paramount Pictures' film adaptation of Baywatch may have recruited a new lifeguard.

Variety reports that Quantico star Priyanka Chopra is in negotiations to join the cast alongside Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, and Kelly Rohrbach. Seth Gordon (The King of Kong, Horrible Bosses) is directing, and the most recent draft of the script reportedly comes from writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

The movie, an adaptation of the popular '90s TV series, is a comedy that surrounds "a by-the-book and very serious lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young rule-flouting hothead (Efron) in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon."

No word yet on Chopra's potential role, but filming is supposed to begin sometime soon, so we'll keep an ear to the ground and bring you more info on this movie as we hear about it.

Fans of David Bowie are still reeling at the news that he passed away two nights ago, and one of those fans is talk show host Conan O'Brien. On last night's episode of his TBS show, he shared this montage of his favorite moments spent with the singer/actor over the years, highlighting Bowie's kindness, sense of humor, and willingness to play along with Conan's loveably dumb antics. Take a look, and maybe it'll bring a smile to your face:

TRIPLE 9 Gets An Action-Packed New Trailer

The upcoming action thriller Triple 9 is one of my most anticipated movies of 2016, and with a cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Norman Reedus, Aaron Paul, Anthony Mackie, Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Gal Gadot, and Clifton Collins Jr, you can probably see why. Open Road has released a brand new trailer for the movie (via iTunes and ComingSoon), and as much as I want everyone to be as excited about this film as I am, I've gotta say that I think the trailer gives away one too many moments from the movie that I would have rather seen in context for the first time. I think this marks the last piece of advertising I'll watch for this film since I'm already all-in on the concept and what director John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road, Lawless) seems to be going for here.

Triple 9 hits theaters on February 26th. Watch this new trailer at your own discretion.

When a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist, they realize the only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. The chaos that ensues when a police officer is shot in the line of duty is just the diversion they’ll need to do the job, but whether they have the will to kill one of their own is an entirely different matter. Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action packed finale tangled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.

Watch: THE WALKING DEAD's Ross Marquand Does Spot-On Celebrity Impressions

When True Detective was at its peak in its first season, The Walking Dead's Ross Marquand released a video parodying Matthew McConaughey's Rust Cohle character and the AT&T commercials that were inescapable at the time. It's pretty excellent — you can watch it here if you missed it.

In a new video for Vanity Fair, Marquand continues to show that he has an exceptional talent for impressions. He drops a couple McConaughey bits in there, but he also takes aim at Harrison Ford, John C. Reilly, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Al Pacino, and more. The best part is the mundane scenarios in which he imagines these celebrities as he does the impressions, like Jason Statham with a charlie horse or Antonio Banderas forgetting his password. I've never paid much attention to Marquand before, but he certainly has my attention after this display:

WORLD WAR Z 2 Left Without Director Juan Antonio Bayona

$

The World War Z sequel will need a new helmer as Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible) left the project due to bad timing. Paramount Pictures confirmed that with the following statement to Deadline:

“Because of pre-existing film commitments, Bayona is not able to make World War Z this year, and it is our ambition to do so. He is a wonderful director, and we hope to work with him soon.”

Those “pre-existing” commitments (to his new movie A Monster Calls) obviously became restraints that would prevent the follow-up zombie apocalypse film from meeting the studio's intended release date deadline.

Undeterred, Paramount and Plan B are planning to start filming World War Z 2 this summer. Many will be happy to know that Brad Pitt is returning to play the lead role again.

With the movie scheduled to hit theaters on June 9, 2017, finding a new director becomes priority! Who do you think may take Bayona’s chair?

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Won't Get an Extended Version

The prospect of seeing extended DVD versions of blockbusters has always excited fans. The excitement is twice as much when talking about one of film's greatest sagas, Star Wars. And despite the fact that it is still too early to expect the release of The Force Awakens on DVD, discussions and questions are already circling around the Internet.

Well, don’t get too excited about an extended cut because director J.J. Abrams is ready to disappoint you. He told reporters at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena that:

“There will be deleted scenes, but not an extended version.”

Since we are not getting an extended DVD of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, perhaps we will at least be given the chance to enjoy some of the deleted scenes we saw in the trailer. That might be enough…maybe.
