Ridley Scott May Direct Film Adaptation of Sci-Fi Classic THE PRISONER

0
0

The 1960s British TV series The Prisoner, which was co-created by, written by, directed by, and starred Patrick McGoohan, had a massive influence on pop culture, with ramifications felt in mystery-based properties ranging from Twin Peaks and The X-Files to Lost. Sadly, I've never made the time to check out the original show for myself, and I missed the 2009 remake that aired on AMC with Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen in the lead roles.

One more person the show seemingly had a large impact on is director Ridley Scott, and Deadline reports he is in negotiations to direct a movie adaptation of the classic show. Their description of the property is as follows:

The Prisoner (known only as Number Six) is a former government agent who abruptly resigns from his job and finds himself imprisoned in an idyllic yet bizarre seaside village isolated from the world by the sea and mountains. He can’t escape because he knows too much, but that doesn’t stop others trying to capture him for his knowledge. What he wants is to keep them at bay and find his way to freedom.

Christopher McQuarrie and The Departed scribe William Monahan have worked on the script at various stages, and the outlet claims that another writer (or writers) will likely come aboard to further shape it into something Scott likes. This could be the film Scott ends up making after Alien: Covenant, although he did recently show interest in helming a movie based on Don Winslow's drug-based novel The Cartel.

Have you seen The Prisoner? What do you think about Scott directing a movie version?

New Trailer For Martin Scorsese's HBO Series VINYL

0
0

As you all probably know by now, Martin Scorsese is reteaming with his Boardwalk Empire collaborator Terrence Winter and rock 'n roll legend Mick Jagger to launch a new HBO series called Vinyl. What you might not know yet is that Scorsese, who executive produced but only directed the pilot of Boardwalk, will be even more hands-on with this show. He told Deadline:

“I’m in all stages of production, selecting directors, working in the tonal meetings and, of course, selecting the music. When I first started using recorded music it was in Mean Streets, and this project is something natural and close to my heart. I’m going to continue to be involved as much as possible in all episodes and I hope that I can out time to direct a few more shows.”

Also a cool piece of trivia: the show was originally envisioned to be a movie, but the economic crash of 2008 meant that they had to retool it into a series because a three hour movie about the music industry no longer seemed like a viable option. Watch the brand new trailer below, and check out Vinyl when it comes to HBO on February 14th:

J.J. Abrams Responds to Claims That THE FORCE AWAKENS is Just "A Rip-Off" of The Original STAR WARS Trilogy

0
0

I loved Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but even in my initial review, I mentioned how director J.J. Abrams seemingly recycled and updated a ton of familiar moments from the original trilogy. There were just enough of these moments where it didn't distract me too much, and I was still able to mostly enjoy the film on its own terms, but I've seen a lot of people get hung up on that to the point where they couldn't enjoy the movie at all and just called it a glorified remake of the original trilogy. Abrams has seen those comments, and he's responded to that criticism to THR:

"I knew that, whatever we did, there would be a group of people — and I was just hoping and praying that it would be smaller than not — that would take issue with any number of things," Abrams says in the latest episode of THR's Awards Chatter podcast, admitting that everything about the project initially scared him. "But I knew we weren't making the movie for any other reason than we believed that it could be something meaningful and special and entertaining and worthy of people's time."
"I can understand that someone might say, 'Oh, it's a complete rip-off!' What was important for me was introducing brand new characters using relationships that were embracing the history that we know to tell a story that is new — to go backwards to go forwards."

To those who still think Abrams and company relied too much on the beats from the original trilogy, I ask: what would you have done differently? I feel like Abrams did the absolute best he could considering the monumental pressure not only from a corporate standpoint (there are billions of dollars on the line), but from a story perspective. This movie is 100% a step in the right direction for this series after three faceplants of the prequels, and though Abrams is taking some heat right now, I think in the years to come it's going to become even more clear how insane it was that he managed to get the series back on track while introducing new characters that audiences love.

Jesse Eisenberg Was Originally Eyed For A Different BATMAN V SUPERMAN Character

0
0

When Jesse Eisenberg was cast as Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there was a mixed reaction from fans. Some saw potential for a Mark Zuckerberg-esque younger incarnation of Superman's nemesis, while others thought Eisenberg was being typecast and wouldn't be able to bring the same charm and charisma Lex has had in the past. It remains to be seen how Eisenberg will do in the end, but he spoke about the character in a new interview with The L.A. Times:

"The character has a core of reality. [Luthor] has a back story that's tragic and an emotional inner life that's authentic. That's in the movie. It was my interest in playing the character with a real emotional core, and this writer, Chris Terrio's interest in creating a character that seemed viable in reality."
"To call [Lex] self-aggrandizing is to say that the Titanic was a sailboat. He is a narcissist of the first order but complicated in that way as well in that he is terribly troubled and competitive and vengeful. He looks at Superman not as somebody to destroy but as genuine threat to humanity."

But the most intriguing part of the interview is actually with director Zack Snyder, who reveals that he initially approached Eisenberg with a totally different character to play in the movie:

"Let's call it a secret, but nevertheless it was the exact opposite of Lex Luthor," Snyder said.

I wonder if the role Snyder had in mind for him was The Flash, who's long been rumored to make an appearance in the movie. I can see Snyder thinking the motor-mouthed Eisenberg might be a good fit for a cinematic version of that character, and the fact that he's eventually a member of the Justice League kind of fits in with the "exact opposite of Lex" comment. (He clearly wasn't offering him the role of Superman, since Henry Cavill is probably going to be playing that part for at least the next five years.) But since I haven't read the script, I'm not even 100% sure that character will show up at all, so maybe it was someone else entirely. I'd love to hear your guesses in the comments.

new-photos-from-disneys-the-jungle-book-and-alice-through-the-looking-glass

Disney has released new photos from a couple of the studio's highly-anticipated upcoming films, Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book and James Bobin's Alice Through the Looking Glass. I'm definitely more excited about The Jungle Book than I am about the Alice in Wonderland sequel, but I'll still end up seeing both because that's what I do!

The Jungle Book is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong'o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela.

The Jungle Book swings into theaters on April 15th, 2016. To catch up on all of our previous news for the film, click here.

In Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” an all-new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. Directed by James Bobin, who brings his own unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on screen in 2010 with “Alice in Wonderland,” the film is written by Linda Woolverton based on characters created by Lewis Carroll and produced by Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd and Tim Burton with John G. Scotti serving as executive producer.

Alice Through The Looking Glass stars Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Rhys Ifans, Stephen Fry, Matt Lucas, Andrew Scott, Ed Speleers, John Sessions, Michael Sheen, and Sacha Baron Cohen as the villain.

The movie will be released on May 27th, 2016.

Trailer For Lou Ferrigno’s Action Thriller INSTANT DEATH

0
0

I’ve been a fan of Lou Ferrigno ever since he played The Incredible Hulk in the classic TV series. A lot of fans have had the opportunity to meet him over the years since he is always attending conventions. He’s never really been leading man material in film, but that all changes with an independently-made action thriller called Instant Death where fans will get to see him kick some ass. We have the first trailer for the film for you to check out, and here’s the synopsis:

A vicious gang war for drug dominance draws in a disturbed Special Forces veteran John Bradley (Lou Ferrigno). Trying to adjust to normal life and haunted by inner demons of a violent past, the underworld's retribution on his last connection to humanity, a daughter and grandchild leads to a descent of fury and violence that not even the brutality of gangland is prepared for.

There’s no word on when or how this movie will be released. Even though the production on the film is cheap, I’ll be watching it because Ferrigno goes ballistic and kills a lot of people!

10 Cool Scenes in Movies That Didn't Make The Final Cut

0

I enjoy learning new things about movies that I never knew about. Almost every film made includes certain scenes that didn't make the final cut of the movie. These scenes are cut out for several reasons. Sometimes they just don't work with the film, and other times they needed to be cut for time. Screen Rant released a video list called "10 Amazing Movie Scenes You've Never Seen," and it includes films such as Interstellar, The Shining, Vacation, Star Wars, Kill Bill, and The Wolverine.

No matter how skilled a writer, director, or editor might be, there are always going to be scenes or sequences that end up cut from a finished film. Whether it's original endings that didn't work with audiences, or scenes that just couldn't fit the running time, these scenes and alternate takes are ones fans need to know about. Here are Screen Rant's 10 Amazing Movie Scenes You've Never Seen.

There, Peggy meets Ana (Lotte Verbeek), Jarvis’ free-spirited and devoted wife to whom she takes an immediate liking.
Eventually, the odd investigation leads Peggy to quirky yet charming scientist Jason Wilkes (Reggie Austin), who quickly becomes an ally — and sparks fly. As Peggy continues to find clues in this peculiar case, she is introduced to the machinations of Whitney Frost (Wynn Everett), a movie starlet, brilliant physicist and the true power behind husband and senatorial candidate Calvin Chadwick (Currie Graham). Fantastic New Trailer For Natalie Portman's Western JANE GOT A GUN

"You so much as flinch and I will blow your head off!"

The Weinstein Company has released the official US trailer for director Gavin O'Connor's action western Jane Got a Gun, which stars Natalie Portman. I've been looking forward to seeing this film since it was first announced and it actually looks like it could be a solid movie. I haven't seen Portman in a film since Thor: The Dark World in 2013, so it will be nice to see her back up on the big screen in a strong badass role like this. The movie has a great supporting cast as well that include Ewan McGregor, Joel Edgerton and Noah Emmerich.

Jane Hammond (Natalie Portman) has built a life on the rugged western plains with her husband Bill "Ham" Hammond (Noah Emmerich) and young daughter. When Ham stumbles home riddled with bullets after a run-in with the relentless John Bishop (Ewan McGregor) and his gang, she knows they will not stop until her family is dead. In desperation, Jane turns to Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton), a man from her past, for help. Haunted by old memories, Jane’s past meets the present in a heart-stopping battle for survival.

The movie hits theaters later this month on January 29th. I love that we've been seeing more westerns at the movies lately.

Patrick Stewart Says He'd Reprise His STAR TREK Role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard

patrick-stewart-says-hed-reprise-his-role-of-captain-jean-luc-picard

The last time we saw Patrick Stweart in the role of Star Trek's Jean-Luc Picard, it was in 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis. It's hard to believe it's been 13 years since then! Over that time, he has taken on the mantle of Professor X in the X-Men films, but he'll always be Jean-Luc to me!

While doing a Facebook Q&A hosted by Entertainment Weekly, the actor was asked by a fan if he would ever consider coming back and reprising his role of Captain Picard, and this was his answer:

“Absolutely... if it were a really good script. But, the poor soul is getting old and long in the tooth. He would probably need some help mounting his horse unlike the youthful captain of 30 years ago.”

I would absolutely love see Stewart reprise his role in a new Star Trek movie! I know the franchise has made some drastic changes since J.J. Abrams came into the picture, but it seems like it would be crazy if Paramount Pictures didn't try to do at least one more film with the cast of The Next Generation. I grew up on the series and it'd be so freakin' cool to these characters embark on one more adventure.

I doubt it will ever happen, but I can keep the hope alive! Another fan asked Stewart who he would like to see take on the role of a young Captain Picard if something like that ever happened and he said:

“I would have to say it must be the actor, my son, Daniel Stewart.”

Stewart’s son Daniel actually appeared in an episode of The Next Generation. It was a season five episode called “The Inner Light,” and it's widely considered to be one of the best episodes of the show.

Would you like to see Stewart reprise his role of Captain Picard again?

Have a question for Patrick Stewart, star of IFC Films' #Match and of course, X-Men Movies' Professor X? Leave your question in the comments below and he may answer!

The Batmobile Bounces Off Superman in New TV Spot for BATMAN V SUPERMAN

We've got a great new TV spot for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for you to watch today! It features Batman driving his car toward Superman like he's going to run him over. Of course, the Batmobile just kind of bounces off him. Superman then confronts Batman and gives him a "piss off" kind of look after Batman asks if he bleeds. It's a very entertaining little tease of what's sure to be a longer scene in the movie. I think you'll all enjoy this one!

You already know how much I enjoyed Krampus. Hell, it ended up on my list of favorite films of 2015. If you’re a fan of the movie as well, then you’ll want to check out this small collection of wonderfully creepy concept art that shows off Krampus, an evil Gingerbread man, and some dark elves of death.

The artwork you see here was created by Edvige Faini, Jared Krichevsky, and Luca Nemolato. Also, in case you haven’t seen it yet, check out a cool special effects featurette for the film below that Weta Workshop released. It showcases the work and old-school practical effects that they used to bring this Christmas horror film to life.

Last week, we shared some cool Star Wars-inspired dresses created by Catherine Elhoffer. She has released an new dress for you to check out that was inspired by Magneto’s look from Marvel’s X-Men. This dress is absolutely stunning.

This was a commission dress, so she won’t be selling these unless you commission one of your own! Elhoffer talks about the dress, saying:

“This dress is so luxurious!! The split cape in the back is a people georgette, so it's thin and billowy. The squared neckline and inset belt is a deep purple violet duchess satin backed with coutil (my #Corsetry background has me spoiled with the best lining fabrics). And the deep red striped double backed scuba has an amazing stretch and drape. Don't look at the hashtags for the hint! ;)”

Maybe someone commissioned it for the X-Men: Apocalypse premiere!

Ok, nearly complete with my #hautecouture commission. Any guesses as to my #geek #inspiration on this piece??? ;) a few of you got it in my sneak yesterday! I'm always shocked by how fast I can #sew when I'm #inspired. This dress is so luxurious!! The split cape in the back is a people georgette, so it's thin and billowy. History Channel Orders SEAL Team Six TV Series

0
0

The History Channel is looking to embark on a mission with The Weinstein Company. They’ve teamed up for a new military series called Six, which will center on SEAL Team Six, the team that brought down the Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Operation Neptune Spear.

This will be an eight-episode military action drama that will tell the real life stories of the team and their missions, “capturing SEALs’ complex personal lives, and the life and death decisions they make, with each season set in a different location, starting with Africa.” The series is being written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter and Vietnam veteran William Broyles (Castaway, Jarhead) and his son David Broyles, a military special operations veteran. They were obviously brought in because they have first hand experience.

Why are they starting with Africa? Harvey Weinstein said:

“The idea originally came to me when I read about Boko Haram kidnapping school children in Africa. I thought about how would our world react and it brought on the idea of creating a series about the world of SEAL Team Six because the story felt as poignant and timely as ever. Each year will feature a different theater of war – the first starting in Africa. Six is a series that recognizes this country’s great heroes and soldiers, and there’s no doubt that it will make for some of the most important, provocative television seen in ages.”

Paul Buccieri, President of A&E and History added:

“The backdrop surrounding this elite team of American soldiers – from their lives at home to the astonishing bravery they display serving our country – provides an amazing canvas for stories that deserve to be told.”

Then Jana Bennett, President & General Manager of History, had this to say:

“Six represents the type of authenticity History values from our creative and writing teams. This series will reflect the network’s renewed focus on core programming which embraces our recent history as well as our deeper past.”

This show could be freakin’ incredible. The History Channel has been doing great things with their shows recently, and as a fan of military films and stories, I’ll be looking forward to watching this!
