75 Sparkling Thoughts I Had Watching STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

$

Before you go any further with this post, I must warn you that it contains bits and pieces which may be understood as spoilers. So careful. One does not simply read articles about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, especially if one hasn’t seen it yet (which in my personal opinion is highly unlikely).

After the seventh Star Wars movie destroyed box office records with estimated $517 million in ticket sales around the world through Sunday, people are still trying to recover from the experience (sometimes all the words in the world cannot describe some things) and become alert to what is happening around them in real life. And why should they do it when they can watch the awakening of the Force for the nth time?

Anyway, here is a list of 75 reactions which perfectly match the way I reacted while staring at the big screen. What about you? Can you find any similarities?

1. Oh, shit. Oh. The blue font.
2. Oh, shit. Oh. The crawl.
3. I’m officially leaking from every orifice of my body.
4. Luke ghosted?! Ghosting is a thing in every galaxy, I guess.
5. STAR DESTROYER! This got ominous real fast.
6. BB-8! I’m already so concerned for your well-being, you adorable sphere.
7. Gotta start things off with an old white dude in a brown robe. Hello, Obi-Wan’s twin.
8. Helloooo, Poe Dameron.
9. I can already feel I’ll spend most of this movie deathly afraid for BB-8.
10. Is it wrong that I’m more attracted to Kylo Ren than I am Poe Dameron?
11. What does that say about me, psychologically?
12. WOAH, HOW DO YOU STOP A BLASTER MID-AIR?
13. Ahh, Captain Phasma, AKA Disco Stormtrooper.
14. There it is. The lowercase “t” lightsaber.
15. Why did that Stormtrooper mark the other Stormtrooper with blood like Rafiki did to Simba in The Lion King?
16. Oh, that John Williams score. We’re home.
17. Was that a little doll of Luke in his flight uniform sitting in Rey’s hut?
18. Is that Luke’s helmet?! Does Rey have Luke’s helmet?
19. I would pay big money to live in an abandoned AT-AT. Big money.
20. OK, Rey is totally Luke’s daughter.
21. YOU LET BB-8 OUT OF THAT NET. HE IS A PRECIOUS CINNAMON ROLL AND WE DON’T DESERVE HIM.
22. Can Kylo Ren read minds?
23. Imagine the sexual possibilities.
24. What the hell is wrong with me?
25. Ahh, John Boyega is the Simba Stormtrooper. One day he will be king.
26. Nothing can tie a TIE fighter down! Haha. Kill me.
27. General Hux, why do you always look like you just smelled a fart?
28. General Hux, why is the air between you and Kylo Ren always thick with sexual tension?
29. Garbage, hunk of junk, the Millennium Falcon gets no respect.
30. I bet Kylo Ren gets hangry. I bet he’s the hangriest.
31. CHEWIE AND HAN. I am, again, officially leaking from every orifice of my body.
32. Rey, don’t be such a townie. Just leave Jakku for good.
33. Supreme Leader Snoke is literally a hologram.
34. I do not understand how a hologram can wield so much authority.
35. Could you not just…turn off the projector? War over.
36. OH GOD, HAN IS HIS FATHER.
37. FIND THE PROJECTOR. TURN THE BAD HOLOGRAM OFF. MAKE THIS STOP.
38. HAN SOLO CREATED A SITH LORD.
39. Rey must be his sister. Twins, just like Luke and Leia.
40. Han would only ever entrust the Falcon to family.
41. Look at the way Han looks at Rey. She has to be his daughter.
42. Maz Kanata, so wise and charming, and so similar in appearance to a dried apricot.
43. OK, but maybe Rey is Luke’s daughter, because she just touched the lightsaber and had that Dagobah-level flashback…
44. Is the only decoration in Kylo Ren’s room Vader’s melted helmet?
45. I could work around it, we could definitely make a relationship work.
46. Is Vader’s head still in there? Luke cremated him, but…
47. I could work around it, we could definitely make a relationship work.
48. It’s very difficult to accept that Bill Weasley is the new space Hitler.
49. Congratulations to Finn, the first Stormtrooper in history to ever successfully hit a target.
50. The deep, dark, secret part of me wishes they’d brought back Leia’s iconic buns.
51. I’m not sure my heart can handle R2-D2 and BB-8 in the same room. The cute would be too much.
52. HELLO, KYLO REN’S FACE. Wow, good face.
53. OH, HELL YES, REY MIND-INVADED HIM. This is some Occlumency-level shit!
54. I really do ship Rey and Finn, but I ship Kylo Ren and General Hux more.
55. Han, no. Stay hidden. I know what’s coming.
56. Ben?! As in BEN KENOBI? Oh, that sucks.
57. Fuck.
58. Well, Luke fell off the bridge and survived, right? Right.
59. Leia knew. My heart is broken.
60. YES, FINN. PICK UP THE LIGHTSABER.
61. SHIT, FINN. WHY DID YOU PICK UP THE LIGHTSABER?
62. YES, REY. PICK UP THE LIGHTSABER. SHOW HIM THE WAYS OF THE FORCE.
63. If Rey and Kylo Ren are siblings, this is some serious sibling rivalry.
64. Did she cut his face?! Is his face cut?! He’s becoming Vader.
65. Luke? LUUUUUKE.
66. Is a Jedi’s beard length directly proportional to his emotional distress?
67. How long has he just been standing on this mountaintop?
68. What has he been eating on this tiny, desolate island?
69. How has he kept his beard so trim? LUKE, ANSWER ME.
70. Take it, Luke. Take the lightsaber. LUKE. COME ON.
71. That’s it? THAT’S IT?
72. But who are Rey’s parents?! NOOOOOOO.
73. COME BACK. MORE. MOOOOAR.
74. Also, can we get an Oscar nomination for BB-8?
75. Alright, let’s all go to sleep until 2017. Then we’ll wake up for Episode 8.

Kylo Ren's Gut-Wrenching Action in THE FORCE AWAKENS Explained by Abrams

If you haven't seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens yet, then stop reading now because this regards one of the biggest, most powerful moments in the movie.

Kylo Ren was seduced by the Dark Side, and when he learned his father, Han Solo, had the droid in his possession, he told Supreme Emporer Snoke that he wouldn't be swayed from his mission.

He proved his dedication to the Dark Side and to Snoke when he killed Han. He killed his own dad! This was something that in all honesty I didn't see coming. I was absolutely shocked and brought to tears.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, J.J. Abrams talked about the insane decision Kylo Ren followed through with and explained why he chose to take the story down this dark and sad road.

“Long before we had this title, the idea of The Force Awakens was that this would become the evolution of not just a hero, but a villain and not a villain who was the finished, ready-made villain, but someone who was in process.
“All of us bring our own experiences to it. As a father, as a friend to people who have children, I know what it’s like to see struggle, to be part of struggle. I know how painful it can be. I know how real it is. And this is, of course, an insane extrapolated version.”

Abrams went on to say they were looking for a moment to set Kylo Ren apart from Vader in a bold way.

“Star Wars had the greatest villain in cinema history. So, how you bring a new villain into that world is a very tricky thing. We knew we needed to do something f—king bold. The only reason why Kylo Ren has any hope of being a worthy successor is because we lose one of the most beloved characters.”

It worked. In my mind Kylo Ren is darker and more sinister villain than Vader was. At this point, I don't see how Kylo can ever be a redeemable character like Vader was in the end. He's worse than I could have ever imagined. I'm looking forward to seeing how his story arc plays out in the upcoming two films.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has made a record $247 million at the domestic box office and $529 million globally in its opening weekend.

Chris Pine Says WONDER WOMAN Will Be a "F**king Blast!"

Director Patty Jenkins is currently shooting Wonder Woman with Chris Pine and Gal Gadot, and it seems like things have been going well. In a recent interview with Total Film (via Heroic Hollywood), Pine, who plays Steve Trevor in the film, talked about the movie and said it's going to be a "f**king blast!" He also talks about how it's finally time that the world sees intelligent women kicking ass.

"It’ll be a f#cking blast. Patty’s got a tremendous sense of story, I couldn’t be happier to be supporting Gal in what’s going to be the first female-driven superhero film. I think in the world today we’ve had plenty enough of male-driven everything and it’s finally time to see how wonderful the world can be with beautiful, strong intelligent women kicking some major ass."

This is a great statement, but whenever anyone says stuff like that I always think, haven't they seen Aliens, Serenity, Tomb Raider, Underworld, Kill Bill, G.I. Jane, Resident Evil, and Chocolate? There are a ton of other films that also have strong, beautiful, intelligent female characters that kick major ass. It's not like Wonder Woman will be the first movie to do it. Even in the world of comic book movies, this isn't the first one; we've seen movies centered on Supergirl, Catwoman, and Elektra. Sure, they weren't the best movies, but they still focused on powerful female superhero characters. Wonder Woman is sure to be a lot better than those, though.

I'm really excited about Wonder Woman! From what I've seen of her in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gal Gagot's portrayal of the character is going to be a lot better than I initially thought. She really seems to fit the character perfectly.

Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 23rd, 2017.

"Patrick Stewart" narrates this wonderfully charming video that takes us through the fictional history of everyone's favorite new droid, BB-8. This is a fake history that has nothing to do with what is happening in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so there are no spoilers. The video is called BB-8: Behind the Circuits and it was was created by OnlyLeigh.

Russo Bros. on High Stakes in INFINITY WAR, Spider-Man, and Cap's Suit in CIVIL WAR

Joe and Anthony Russo are currently working on Captain America: Civil War, and when they are done with that they are going to jump right into developing Avengers: Infinity War. The MCU is a locomotive of awesomeness and there's no stopping it now. We just get to ride along on Marvel's adventure, and it's exciting to think about the things that will eventually happen.

The two directors recently did an interview with Weeping Angel in China, and they talked a great deal about Civil War, and Captain America's relationship with Winter Soldier and Black Widow. They talk about the challenges of making the film, their approach in bringing Spider-Man to life in the Marvel universe, Cap's costume, and how the stakes have been raised for the Avengers in Infinity War.

When Joe was asked the awkward question of Cap and Bucky's relationship in the story and if it was somewhat sexual, he said:

"People can interpret the relationship however they want to interpret it. For us, we’ve always interpreted the relationship as two brothers. They’re very close characters, they have a relationship with each other that is very deep. The bond between them is very strong, [which is] what motivates the storytelling. These are both characters that came from nothing. Captain America was basically an orphan, and Bucky’s family took him in. When he was asleep for several years, he lost everything that was dear to him. And when he took the serum and became Captain America, he gave away a large part of himself for a patriotic cause. So, you have a character who is searching for the only thing that he has left from his past… and that’s Bucky. And people interpreted that relationship all kinds of ways and it’s great to see people argue about it what that relationship means to them."

He was then asked about Cap's relationship with Black Widow, which has been really fun to see grow over the years in these films. I love the kind of relationship they have, but things are going to be strained a bit in Civil War when Black Widow sides with Tony Stark.

"They do care very deeply for each other, I think, as much as any two characters in Avengers do, and I think you'll see that [platonic dynamic] again in Civil War. I think two of the most endearing scenes in the film are between Steve and Natasha. And of course, that relationship will carry forward into Infinity War. They have a real respect for each other, but they're very different and they admire the differences in each other, and they find a commonality in those differences."

The directing team is then asked how the new Spider-Man will be different from the previous iterations portrayed by Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Anthony gave the following answer:

"This is a completely new version of Spider-Man that’s introduced in Civil War. It was very important to us that we go younger with the character because what we love about Spider-Man is that he’s still a high school student. That’s a part of his vulnerability and it’s what makes him special in the Marvel Universe; he’s very unique. We wanted to play to that aspect of the character. We also wanted to think about ‘Who is Spider-Man today?’ A lot of times when you get interpretations of Spider-Man, they’re very nostalgic to the origins of the character. Sometimes there’s an old-fashioned patina to the tone of who Spider-Man is. We wanted to think about who is Spider-Man today if he’s living in Queens, what’s the texture of his life like, what’s the texture of his relationship with his aunt who lives with him. How can we make the relationship and character very contemporary? That’s our goal with the character."

Spider-Man is the character I think Marvel fans are excited about seeing introduced in this movie, and Marvel isn't giving us anything yet! They are keeping him locked up until they are ready to introduce the new Spider-Man to the world. The character is being played by Tom Holland, and Marisa Tomei is playing Aunt May, who will also appear in Civil War.

The Russos are later asked about how high the stakes will be for Earth's mightiest heroes in Captain America: Civil War as well as the two-part Avengers: Infinity War. Joe explains:

"The stakes of both Civil War and the Avengers: Infinity War movies are gonna be very high, and there will be a price to pay [for?] a lot of characters, and that’s the whole point of cumulative storytelling. We’re going to go on emotional journeys with these characters. We’ve got a lot invested in the emotion. We have responsibilities to be mindful of how these people feel about the characters and, at the same time, we also have a responsibility to carry through on the storytelling. As filmmakers, we believe in stakes. You can’t have good storytelling without strong stakes. So, there will be a price to pay in Civil War. There will be characters that..."

It trails off because you can't hear what he says in the video below. It then picks back up with Infinity War in which he explains, "the stakes will be raised to a whole new level." He continues, saying, "people should expect to be shocked when they see the movies."

As for Cap's new suit with the classic scale mail design, Anthony says:

"It is a new costume. We were trying to pull forward the work that we had done in Captain America: The Winter Soldier on Cap. So, the innovations that we made to his costume in that form are very much the tonal texture that we are pulling forward. Civil War is very much connected and rooted in The Winter Soldier. So, as far as the specifics of the costume, we don’t want to give too much away, but it is a new costume slightly different from what you’ve seen before. And it’s grounded in that Winter Soldier tone."

We've already seen a some promo art of Cap's new outfit, but it will be fun to see it brought to life. Captain America: Civil War comes out on May 6th, 2016, and there's no doubt it's going to bring all kinds of entertaining Marvel greatness.

10 Facts About The Lightsaber You Might Not Have Known

$

Sure, there are millions of fictional weapons that have been created over the years. But let's face it — we all know that lightsabers are the greatest. So, here are a few facts about the lightsaber you probably didn’t even know about. But just a quick note: like it says in the video at the end, some of the info is part of “Star Wars Legends,” and not part of the Star Wars main continuity. But it’s still fun to talk about and geek out over.

1. Lightsabers were basically created by the Dark Side. The first part of the lightsaber was called a force saber and was Dark Side energy channeled into a blade and if a Jedi picked up a force saber, he/she would risk immediately and unwillingly turning to the Dark Side just by using it. So the early Jedis made the first lightsaber in order to use it and not turn evil.

2. In George Lucas’s earliest draft of the Star Wars script, the lightsaber was called the laser sword. Luckily that did not stick and they switched it back to lightsaber.

3. Luke Skywalker's Return of the Jedi lightsaber was originally supposed to be blue, but then Lucas made the decision to change it to green because the blue lightsaber was difficult to see during the fight scene near the Sarlacc pit, as it was getting lost against the blue sky.

4. Lightsabers were illegal during Empire days, making owning a lightsaber a crime. Also a crime: trading the crystals needed to make the lightsabers, no matter what planet they grew on.

5. There are seven forms of lightsaber combat. Shi-Cho, Mahashi, Soresu, Ataru, Shien-Djem So, Niman, Juyo/Vaapad.

6. Lightsabers used to need battery packs and the earliest lightsabers (also called Protosabers) didn’t include internal power cells...mainly because they weren’t invented yet. The Sith were the first ones to invent power cells and that got rid of the cord attached to the saber.

7. The color of the lightsaber is determined by the crystals it uses to focus the energy. The Dark Side got used to red sabers while the Jedi only used blue and green. Now, Mace Windu did use a purple lightsaber but that's only because Samuel L. Jackson requested a purple lightsaber because he wanted to pick himself out in a fight scene.

8. Lightsabers aren’t the only light weapon. There was also a light whip which was like a regular whip with lightsaber crystals allowing the beam to move freely.

9. Cutting someone's hand off with a lightsaber is actually a technique. It’s called Cho-mi.

10. Lightsabers can’t cut through everything. There are a few materials that resist the lightsaber blade.

The video below, created by VariantComics, will go in detail about all the facts I listed above. It’s very fun and entertaining and you can sound like a pro next time you talk about Star Wars with friends.

Unused Storylines For THE FORCE AWAKENS Revealed By Michael Arndt

Star Wars: The Force Awakens went through various stages of story development. There are a lot of different ways the story could have gone. I personally loved what we got, but thanks to screenwriter Michael Arndt, we now have some information on a different direction the film could have gone. The writer was working on the film long before J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Arndt revealed his original vision for the story and why it didn’t work. Here’s what he had to say (spoilers ahead):

“Early on I tried to write versions of the story where [Rey] is at home, her home is destroyed, and then she goes on the road and meets Luke. And then she goes and kicks the bad guy’s ass. It just never worked and I struggled with this. This was back in 2012.”

He went on to talk about why it didn’t work. Basically, he didn't want Rey’s hero journey to be overshadowed by Luke. He explains:

“It just felt like every time Luke came in and entered the movie, he just took it over. Suddenly you didn’t care about your main character anymore because, ‘Oh f–k, Luke Skywalker’s here. I want to see what he’s going to do.’”

It’s very clear that from the beginning they wanted Rey to be the lead character in this story. They wanted people to focus on her character and the journey she went on, so it makes sense that they would put Luke on the back burner for at least this first film.

We don’t see Luke until the end of the movie, but now, of course, I want to see what Luke is going to do! It makes me wonder if they are going to keep him in the background throughout the trilogy or finally send him on his adventure with Rey.

There’s another part of Arndt's storyline that they never latched onto. The report explains that there was a section that revolved around the “search for Darth Vader’s remains, or a quest to the underwater wreckage of the second Death Star to recover a key piece of history about sacred Jedi sites in the galaxy.”

I won’t lie, both of those sound freakin’ fascinating! I’m completely happy with how the film turned out, though, and I’m excited to see that story continue.

Preview: OLD MAN LOGAN #1

Logan is back in the current Marvel U with Old Man Logan #1, just with a bit more baggage — and that’s saying something. After the events of Secret Wars, Logan finds himself in an enviable position to prevent his messed up future from happening, and no one is going to stand in his way. It should be interesting to see him interact with the other X-Men knowing what he knows, and while the premise is more than a little reminiscent of the Bishop storyline, the different futures they are trying to prevent should be enough to separate them. My biggest curiosity is if, seeing what he has seen, his future finally brings him closer to Scott’s point of view. Guess we will have to wait and see what writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino have in store for him.

JURASSIC WORLD Congratulates THE FORCE AWAKENS on Beating Its Box Office Record

During the past forty years or so, the box office record for highest opening weekend of all time has changed hands multiple times. Directors like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas would leave full page ads for each other in Hollywood trade magazines as a way to congratulate the new champion, and now that we're in the age of social media, those congratulatory messages have switched over to social media. When Jurassic World beat The Avengers for highest opening weekend box office performance of all time earlier this year, Kevin Feige and the people at Marvel Studios shared a cool graphic that featured characters from both franchises, and now the Jurassic World team is doing the same thing for the newly-crowned champions, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Jurassic World producer Frank Marshall congratulated J.J. Abrams and Marshall's wife Kathleen Kennedy on Twitter by sharing this image of a T-rex bestowing a medal on BB-8:

Pretty cool. The Force Awakens broke the record for the highest-grossing opening night ever with $57 million, and the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend ever with $529 million worldwide. You can read my review here, and my ranking of the new characters right here.

6 Big Questions Raised in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, With Theories That May Answer Them

$

0

I've seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens three times already, and it won't be the last time I see it in theaters. It's such an awesomely entertaining movie, but by the end of it, we were left with just as many questions as were answered.

After talking to friends about the film, I came up with a list of six of the biggest questions I had for the film. I tried to find information on them, and then offered up my own theories on what it means, or what we could see in future films.

Look over what I've come up with below and feel free to share your own thoughts, questions or theories in the comment section below.

Who are Rey's parents?

One of the biggest questions that I've seen Star Wars fans talking about is who Rey's parents are. Some say it's Han and Leia, but I didn't get a sense of that at all. Han and Leia clearly weren't familiar with who she was. They were focused on their son.

The popular theory is that Rey is Luke's daughter. That seems to be the most likely scenario, but it just seems too predictable for something Abrams and Kasdan would do. I think there's more to it than that. But why is the lightsaber calling to her!? Does she have to be a Skywalker? Why didn't Han or Leia recognize her? If she was Luke's daughter, they must have know he had a kid, right?

Could she be related to Ben Kenobi in some way? He did have the Skywalker lightsaber for years before he gave it to Luke. We also hear him in Rey's vision say, “Rey, you’ve taken your first steps.” We didn't hear Anakin Skywalker say anything.

The Force.net offers a theory on how Rey could be a Kenobi, explaining:

Anyone who has watched Clone Wars will know Obi-Wan had a relationship with Duchess Satine Kryze leader of the Mandalorians. In fact when Obi-Wan was still a Padawan he and Qui-Gon protected her for over a year. Obi-Wan and Satine grew so close that Obi-Wan stated he would have renounced his vows to the Jedi order had she asked. Now Qui-Gon was certainly no stickler for the rules, but fathering a child is in fact not against the Jedi code. The attachment that usually comes with such things is the issue. So Obi-Wan could easily have fathered a child with Satine and remained a Jedi so long as he was detached enough from the situation. This child being of both Mandalorian and Jedi descent would have to be kept a secret. It would have been an affront to the mandalorians seeking to return to the old ways and a target of assassination as a result.

There's also the slight possibility that she could be related to someone else entirely. In The Empire Strikes Back, after Luke leaves Yoda's training Obi-Wan says, "This boy is our last hope." And Yoda replies, "No, there is another." Many of us just assumed that someone was Leia, but maybe for this trilogy, it was made to be someone else will in this new story arc and that's who Rey is related to.

How was Rey so good at using The Force so quickly?

For someone who didn't know she was a Jedi, she sure did learn to use the ways of the Force rather quickly with very little help or guidance. It didn't even seem like she knew she was Force sensitive while growing up on Jakku. But by the end of this movie, she used the Jedi mind trick, she used the Force to get a hold of the lightsaber, and she was able to take on Kylo Ren both mentally and physically.

This makes me think that she was at least trained in the ways of The Force as a child by Luke before she was abandoned on Jakku. It is possible that whoever left her there used their Jedi powers to lock some part of her mind so that she couldn't use The Force to protect her from being killed like the rest of the younglings that Luke was training.

It wasn't until Kylo Ren started messing around with her mind that the Force was unlocked in her and she started using it. He obviously stirred something in her, and from there it just got stronger and stronger. It seemed like there were some memories coming back to her regarding what she may have been taught as a child. It was also in this scene where we learned she had a memory of the Jedi temple where Luke was in hiding.

Who the hell is this Snoke asshole?

We hardly got any information regarding Supreme Leader Snoke. He obviously rose from somewhere between Episode VI and VII. It seems like he has been around much longer than that, though. We've just never been introduced to him until now.

Over the years, it looks like he's been through some serious shit. The guy is physically messed up, and I imagine whatever happened to him only fueled his hate for the Jedi. The creature designer of the Snoke, Ivan Manzella, had this to say about the character in the book, The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

“J.J. [Abrams] wanted to base Snoke on the Hammer Films horror movies, giving the design a ghoulish look. We made a bust out of marble powder, because we talked about him being very pale. And I imagined him to be a beautiful marble sculpture, so dark and menacing, but actually quite beautiful to look at.
"It’s almost like Snoke was quite handsome when he was younger. And in my mind, the more powerful he’s become, the more the Dark Side consumes him. We made his eyes really pale, pale blue so the whites of his eyes are almost the same color as his skin and costume. Piercing.”

Maybe Luke actually battled Snoke at one point!? Maybe Luke is the one who jacked him up royally. We know that Snoke helped Kylo Ren turn to the Dark Side, though. We also learned from him that Ren's training is incomplete and that Ren has to return to wherever Snoke resides to complete his training. I assume Snoke will be the one to teach him.

There are fan theories that suggest Snoke is actually Darth Plagueis, who is a character that was mentioned in the prequels. Abrams has denied this in the past, but he also denied that Khan wasn't in Star Trek Into Darkness

Emperer Palpatine once described Darth Plagueis:

“Darth Plagueis was a dark lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise. He could influence the midichlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the Dark Side, he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.”

But then Palpatine claimed to have killed Plagueis in his sleep. I personally don't think that Snoke is Plagueis. I think he's a different character entirely.

Where are the rest of the Knights of Ren?

Kylo Ren is a part of a group who relishes in the Dark Side called the Knights of Ren. We've talked about them a few times in the past, but we only got a glimpse of them in The Force Awakens during Rey's vision.

In that vision, we see that they lashed out against the Jedi and killed many of the new Jedi that Luke was training. We saw many of them dead, lying in the mud.

We know Kylo Ren was a part of that group, but where are the rest of them now? Are they with Supreme Leader Snoke, still in training? Are they in other parts of the galaxy hunting down Luke Skywalker and other rising Jedi? I'm sure they'll play a bigger role in the upcoming films, but it's hard to tell how exactly they will play into it, though.

Why did Luke really go into hiding?

We learned in the film that Luke went to train a new generation of Jedi. This is what Yoda instructed him to do when he told him to "pass on what you had learned." While doing this something bad obviously happened, and an evil arose within the group. Apparently it was really bad, and he felt responsible for what happened that he felt he needed to run and go into hiding. So he embarked on a journey to find the first Jedi temple. Why the first Jedi temple? Maybe to find some kind of answers or a solution to the growing problems of the Dark Side. I'd like to think that maybe he's been conversing with Yoda, Obi-Wan, and his father while he's been there!

Judging by Rey and Kylo Ren's age, he's been gone for maybe 15 years. So why wait all that time for someone to find him? Why didn't he come back to help? Does he really think the galaxy would be better off without him? Because we all know that's bullshit — I never saw Luke as some self-loathing person that wouldn't help.

Luke's journey in this new trilogy hasn't even started yet. I'm confident that we'll learn a lot more about what happened in Rian Johnson's Episode VIII. Will he start Rey's training in the ways of the Force? If Yoda and Obi-Wan have anything to say about it, yes...he will!

How did Maz get ahold of Luke and Anakin's Lightsaber?

Luke lost the lightsaber in Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back after Darth Vader cut his hand off. Maz says that she came across it many years ago, but failed to explain how. She just said it was a story for another time.

When the movie was in early development, a rumor surfaced about how The Force Awakens would start. After the classic Star Wars crawl ended, it said that instead of a spaceship coming into frame, it would be the severed hand of Luke in space holding on to the lightsaber, and that it ends up falling onto a desert planet where one of the characters would find it.

It was originally rumored the character was Rey, but that obviously changed. Rey was meant to come across the lightsaber in Maz's watering hole. But maybe some of these details are part of the story of how Maz came across it. Also, in an original version of the script, Rey didn't find the lightsaber on her own. According to a previous report Maz leads Han, Finn and Rey into a chamber where the lightsaber is and she begins to tell them a flashback story. Here are some of the points of that story:

There are dead bodies are on the ground like we saw in the movie. Only in this version Luke shows up. After this carnage there is a more peaceful scene and R2-D2  is saddened as his master departs.

There is a hand that takes the lightsaber at the start of the film. This peasant drops the saber, starts a fire, panics and then returns. A local trader had got his hands on the saber, and he's seen leaving with it. This trader then makes a sale of a wealthy man. After that, there is a fierce battle with the lightsaber being use by a "Clan" against "The Seven." I assume The Seven are the Knights of Ren. While this battle is taking place, Maz, who was apparently originally named Rose, takes “the object,” which I assume is the saber that may have been dropped in battle.

These were all presented as bullet points, so it's hard to piece together what exactly happened, but that should give you an idea. I'm sure the mystery of how Maz actually came across it will be revealed in Episode VIII.

20th Century Fox continues to build on the already exciting Deadpool hype by releasing the IMAX trailer that screened with Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as an IMAX poster.

The trailer doesn't offer much new footage from the film, but it does deliver the laughs in regards to Deadpool's comparison of IMAX to a giant chimichanga. As for the poster, it basically features the entire cast engulfed in flames, with Deadpool riding on top of Colossus' shoulders. He's also battling Ajax at the bottom. There's also a Stan Lee cameo in the bottom right corner!

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

The new, full trailer is set to be released on December 25th during the day's NBA games, so stay tuned! Deadpool will rock theaters on February 12th.

7 Underseen 2015 Films You Should Seek Out

As 2015 comes to a close, I wanted to look back on a few movies I saw this year that I didn’t think got enough attention from audiences. Here are seven underseen 2015 films you should seek out if you’re looking for something good to watch.

Big Game

If you’re a fan of the kinds of over-the-top action movies that littered cineplexes in the 1990s, Big Game is for you. Don’t be put off by the fact that takes place in Finland and features some Finnish subtitles — this is a fast-paced, action-heavy survival thriller that’s all about big, broad fun. Bonus: it features a nice Samuel L. Jackson performance as the U.S. President who’s being hunted by terrorists and must team up with a 13-year-old Finnish boy to survive.

Cop Car

A taut, edge-of-your seat thriller that reminded me of what Stand By Me would have been if it was written and directed by the Coen Brothers, Cop Car didn’t have a huge marketing push behind it when it was released earlier this year. But because it’s directed by Jon Watts (the director of Marvel and Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot), it has a terrific Kevin Bacon performance, there’s a ton of natural-sounding dialogue between its two young leads, and it treats the kids like real characters instead of typical “movie kids,” I’d highly recommend giving this one a chance.

Bone Tomahawk

A crackling screenplay from a first-time writer/director, a superb cast, and a plot that dips the western genre in a bubbling vat of horror, Bone Tomahawk caught me completely off guard in the best possible way. Since Tombstone is one of my favorite movies, it made me happy to see Kurt Russell as a western sheriff again, and his relationship with the absolutely fantastic Richard Jenkins (in one of the best roles of his storied career) takes this to the next level. And speaking of “next level,” make sure you have a stomach for tremendous violence if you decide to give this one a go. There’s a scene that happens near the end that will sear its way into your brain forever, and you’ll never be the same again. This movie made me incredibly excited to see what writer/director S. Craig Zahler does next.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl

So many coming-of-age stories are told from male perspectives — both in front of and behind the camera — that a sense of sameness can often permeate them. When I watched the critically acclaimed (but disastrous box office performer) Me and Earl and The Dying Girl this year, I felt a little like I’d seen this story told a handful of times before, with small tweaks to it. (Caveat: Yes, I’m familiar with the idea of every story being comprised of one of seven basic plots, so no need to bring it up in the comments.) And even though The Diary of a Teenage Girl could be dismissively described as “just another coming of age story” about a sexual awakening, the fact that it has a female protagonist (Bel Powley) and a female writer/director (Marielle Heller) gives it a fresh perspective and a non-judgmental quality that you don’t often see in films like this. It’s won a handful of awards already, and it’s a truthful, enjoyable indie film that you should track down if you’re sick of seeing a dorky high school guy fall for the hot girl and somehow goof his way into her heart.

The Final Girls

It seems like a small crime that The Final Girls wasn’t an instant smash hit upon its release, but because it only came out in a handful of theaters and probably attracted most of its audience through VOD, it’s tough to measure its financial success. But creatively speaking, this movie completely knocks it out of the park. It’s a rare slasher movie parody that isn’t cheap, annoying, or stupid — not only is it very funny, but it also has a shockingly emotional core to it. Legitimate emotion is not something I expected to find here, but the way the film handles it’s main relationship between a daughter (Taissa Farming) and her actress mother (Malin Ackerman) is genuinely moving. This is one of my favorite movies of the year, and it’s a shame a lot of people have never even heard of it.

Mr. Holmes

Sir Ian McKellen as Sherlock Holmes. What more do you need to know? How about that he plays the world-famous detective across three different time periods, adopting different makeup and postures for each? He’s wonderful in this film, and while Oscar nominations have not been released as of this writing, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get a nomination for Best Actor. With Sherlock Holmes very much in the public consciousness right now with shows on the BBC and CBS as well as the threat of a third Guy Ritchie/Robert Downey Jr. movie, Mr. Holmes provides a cool look at the character at a point in his life which we don’t often see him. I wouldn’t go as far as to call it one of the best films of the year or anything, but if you’re an Ian McKellen fan (and who isn’t?), it’s definitely worth catching up with on a rainy day.

Room

A harrowing, gut-wrenching experience, Room largely succeeds on the backs of its two lead actors, Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. The youngster gives what might be one of the best child performances in any movie ever made, and Lenny Abrahamson’s direction puts you in Tremblay’s character’s shoes, capturing childhood sensations in a way I haven’t seen on film before. If you’ve never seen a trailer and don’t know anything else about the movie at all, that’s the best way to see it — but even if you know the premise and know how the story plays out, it’s still a tense, heart-pounding movie. It’s unfortunate that this film didn’t get as much attention as I thought it deserved this year, but maybe some of you will give it a shot if you haven’t yet.

Details on The Vision's Role in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Revealed

Captain America: Civil War is going to be one of the biggest movie events of 2016. It's going to take the MCU to a new level, and it will raise the stakes for our favorite heroes, not only in this film but in the films to come.

Earlier this year, The Vision was introduced into the MCU in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He's an awesomely fascinating character whose story will continue in Captain America: Civil War. The film pits hero against hero. They turn on each other because of the Superhero Registration Act.

In Captain America: Civil War, they are either for or against the Sokovia Accords, which state that the heroes "shall no longer operate freely or unregulated, but instead operate under the rules, ordinances and governances of the afore mentioned United Nations panel, acting only when and if the panel deems it appropriate and/or necessary."

I'm curious to see what Marvel does with The Vision in this storyline, but we have a pretty big hint at where it will go thank to and interview with Sina Entertainment. While they were talking with directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and they simply asked if Vision plays a big role in the film, and this was the writer/directors' response:

"Vision is a captivating character, and he does play a critical role in the Civil War. The comic fans might be able to guess what he is going to do."

That a huge tease! I'm surprised they said that. It's easy to guess what that is. Before I get into a possible major SPOILER, let me give you a brief rundown of The Vision's role in the Civil War comic arc. Vision rebelled against what the government was doing and ended up on team Captain America. He also played an important part in the climatic battle against Iron Man and his team. However, in the film, Vision sides with Iron Man. I'm not sure why they did this other than the fact that Jarvis' A.I. is a part of Vision.

I'm now entertaining SPOILER territory!

The Vision probably won't stay on Iron Man's side in the film. I think he'll end up helping Captain America. What I think the Russos are referring to in their comment is the part in the comic where Vision uses his powers to disable Iron Man's armor during the final battle. This gives Captain America the opportunity to beat the living shit out of Tony, which he does!

If this is what the Russos were alluding to, I think it's awesome that they are actually going to use that aspect of the comic. When they put Vision on team Iron Man, I wasn't sure if that would be the case. The movie hits theaters on May 6th, 2015.

You’ve gotta check out this fantastic Star Wars tribute video that was created in the style of the slick intros used in movies in the 1970s. The video was created by Backlight Studio and they did something really cool with this. It’s fantastically fun, fast-paced, and features everything we love about Star Wars! This is easily one of my favorite Star Wars fan videos that has been made. It's short and sweet. Check it out!

EVERYBODY WANTS SOME Trailer: Richard Linklater Heads Back to School

Writer/director Richard Linklater has directed a number of coming-of-age movies set in and around schools (School of Rock, Dazed and Confused, and Boyhood instantly come to mind), and now he's heading back with Everybody Wants Some, his directorial follow-up to Boyhood that's been billed as a spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused.

Dazed and Confused has one of my favorite soundtracks, and from the poster (above) and the trailer, it seems like that trend is going to continue with this story that features Linklater's take on college life in the '80s. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. Everybody Wants Some hits theaters on April 15th, 2016.

Easter Eggs, Cameos, and References in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

There is so much fun stuff packed into J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I'm sure you weren't able to catch everything on the first viewing. I've seen the movie three times already, and every time I see it, I find something new to geek out over.

For those of you who enjoy Mr. Sunday Movies’ videos, then you’ll want to watch his latest episode which points out all of the Easter eggs, cameos, and references in the film. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, then you probably won’t want to watch this as it contains SPOILERS! Here’s the note that came along with the video:

All the Easter Eggs, references and cameos from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We’re talking Easter Eggs and nods to the original Star Wars Trilogy, the prequel trilogy, JJ Abrams tropes and some cameos you wouldn’t believe (that you’ll probably believe).
A lot of Star Wars: The Force Awakens pulls directly from A New Hope including the Starkiller super weapon being pretty much a bigger Death Star, Jedi mind tricks and a hero stranded on a desert planet to just name a few. Then we get into how Finn’s Stormtrooper number harkens back to Princess Leia’s imprisonment, limb loss and how a stack of original Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art informed the look and design of so many elements of The Force Awakens including the new X-Wings and a whole lot of unused material.
As mentioned the prequels aren’t entirely left out with hints towards podracing, Jango and Boba Fett, Cloning an army and more. Darth Vader obviously informs a lot about Kylo Renn (he does posess his ashes and helmet after all) but he also has a lot in common with some expanded universe charaters including Jacen Solo and Ben Skywalker.
There’s so much ore though! Links to not only the expanded universe (now not canon) but the new expanded material including the origin of Po Dameron, how Han Solo lost the Falcon and Princess Leia’s flashback to Darth Maul on Naboo. Check out all that and more in the video and if you could leave anything I’ve missed in the comments that’d be super.

One thing I want to point out that isn't in the video below, is something we see during Rey's vision. That includes a quick glimpse of the hallway where Luke and Darth Vader fought each other on Cloud City.

Ok, now you can watch the video! If there's anything else the video missed, please let us know in the comment section below! I want to know what you all saw!

Another trailer has been released for the creepy upcoming horror film The Forest, which stars Game of ThronesNatalie Dormer. It looks like could be a decent horror flick, and for some reason my 11-year-old daughter is begging me to take her to see it! She rarely begs to go see movies, so the fact that she has latched on to this one is interesting. She just says that it looks like a really good and creepy scary movie.

The film is set in the legendary Aokigahara forest in Japan where people go to commit suicide. The story follows "a young American woman who comes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone's warnings not to 'stray from the path,' she dares to enter the forest to discover the truth about her sister's fate, only to be confronted by the angry and tormented souls of the dead who now prey on anyone who crosses their paths."

The movie was directed by Jason Zada from a script written by Sarah CornwellThe Forest hits theaters on January 8th, 2016!
