first-house-of-cards-season-4-promo-spot-its-a-new-day-in-america

“America, I’m only getting started."

President Frank Underwood is back in the first preview for Netflix's House of Cards season four. The promo spot aired last night as a fake political ad during the GOP primary debate on CNN last night.

Kevin Spacey's sly and murderous Underwood is selling the promise and dream of a “new day” in America in the promo. Soldiers coming home from war, out-of-work people finding jobs, and people sleeping soundly at night. He's selling a country in which he wants to put people before politics. Sounds good, right? But we all know better.

The series will return on March 4th for another 13 episode run.

Even William Shatner Loved STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS!

Last night I had the opportunity to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens and was completely blown away by what J.J. Abrams delivered! Fans are going to love it! Even Star Trek legend William Shatner loved the movie!

The actor, who is best known for his role as Captain Kirk, posted a comment on Twitter calling The Force Awakens "superb." He then goes on to say it might have been better had he been in it. Here's his tweet:

Shatner recently suited up as a Stormtrooper for the CMA Awards. With all this Star Wars love he's been showing recently, maybe deep down Shatner is really a Star Wars fan and he's starting to show his true colors.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18th. That's only two days away, folks! I can't wait for you all to see it, and hear what you think about it. We'll have a discussion post on the site next week so we can all talk about it! In the meantime, you can read Ben's Spoiler Free review here.

Po's Martial Arts Journey Continues in New KUNG FU PANDA 3 Trailer

DreamWorks Animation has released a new third trailer for Kung Fu Panda 3, which continues the crazy and amusing adventures of Po. I've enjoyed the films in this franchise, and I'm actually looking forward to seeing this next chapter in the story, which includes the introduction of Po's birth father voiced by Bryan Cranston. This story also leads Po to a Panda village, where he must help them stop a new villainous threat.

When Po's long-lost panda father suddenly reappears, the reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of hilarious new panda characters.  But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the impossible—learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas!

Kung Fu Panda 3 was directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who also brought us Kung Fu Panda 2Jack Black returns as the voice of Po in the film along with Gary Oldman, Dustin Hoffman, David Cross, Angelina Jolie, Michelle Yeoh, Mads Mikkelsen, Danny McBride, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, Jackie Chan, Kate Hudson, James HongJ.K. Simmons as the new villain, and Bryan Cranston as Po's father.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is set to be released in theaters on January 29th, 2016.

Deadpool and Boba Fett Go Head to Head in Really Good Epic Rap Battle

I'll start this off by saying I'm not typically a fan of Epic Rap Battles Of History, but damn this was good. Deadpool and Boba Fett square off in a rap battle that is brutal on both ends! The amount of truth behind the disses was almost too much to handle, and while Deadpool definitely shuts it down in the first half... Boba Fett makes a comeback. While this may not make me a fan of the series going forward, maybe I'll check out a few more based on this incredibly well-done episode.

Santa Gets Freaky in MAN SEEKING WOMAN Season 2 Red-Band Trailer

I wouldn't blame you if you didn't even know Man Seeking Woman existed. It's a small show that airs on the FX Network spin-off channel FXX, and with Jay Baruchel as its main character, it doesn't exactly have traditional star power. But it's a hilarious and often painfully accurate depiction of a guy trying to find love in his 20s, and the way the show visualizes everyday occurrences makes it completely unique on the TV landscape.

The first season has tons of laugh out loud moments and is absolutely worth catching up with. Season 2 is set to premiere on FXX on January 6th, and the network has just released a red-band trailer for fans to check out. Even if you've never seen an episode, take a look at this trailer to get a sense of what I'm talking about with the visualizations here — the bit where the girl dies of boredom is a perfect example. I'll definitely be tuning into the second season. Will you?

Review: SISTERS is The Tina Fey/Amy Poehler Comedy You've Been Waiting For

$

Fans of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey won't be disappointed with Sisters, a worthy pairing of the talented SNL alumni that places the comedic duo in a situation ripe for laughs.

Poehler plays Maura, a responsible, cheery, people-pleasing do-gooder who spent her childhood making sure everyone else was having fun while she rarely had any herself. Fey plays Kate, Maura's wildly irresponsible older sister who grew up drinking, partying, and making out. When the two find out that their parents are selling their childhood home, they return to Orlando to pack up their old bedrooms. Kate is a disaster, homeless and jobless and not impressing her teenage daughter, who bails to go live with a friend for the summer. Maura, who's been divorced for a couple of years, isn't doing all that great either, and so to cheer themselves up, they decide to throw one last party at the house, inviting all the high school classmates they haven't seen in years. Kate promises to be the "party mom" for once so Maura can finally let loose and try to hook up with a hot guy (Ike Barinholtz) who lives down the street. As you might expect, the party gets out of control and the sisters' relationship hangs in the balance as things continue to escalate.

There's a strong supporting cast on display here, including Maya Rudolph as a snotty, grown up mean girl from the sisters' class that looks down on them, and John Leguizamo, who perfectly captures the essence of the sort of pervy guy who's never gotten out of his hometown. Barinholtz does good work playing a normal dude (a far cry from his spastic but lovable loser character Morgan on The Mindy Project), and Bobby Moynihan has a bunch of huge, drugged out moments that, for me, actually alternated between being hilarious and tiresome. The film has a ton of recognizable archetypes — the theater nerd who never hit the big time, the couple with a stale marriage, the kind of sad woman coming to grips with her age — but they often aren't quite fleshed out enough to feel like more than just stock characters. (In the press conference, writer Paula Pell said that there were initially full arcs for each of the side characters, but much of that footage ended up being edited out.)

The film does a good job of capturing a specific kind of vibe for people who are of a certain age. I imagine it won't play as well to a teenage crowd, but for anyone who has moved away from their hometown, gone back to visit, and run into friends you used to know at a different point in your life, this should feel pretty relatable. Even though the world feels a little heightened here, it's good to know that among the barrage of jokes, there's also a real emotional truth to what's taking place on screen.

There's no way I'm going to convince anyone to go see Sisters instead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opens in theaters on the same day, but if fans of Fey and Poehler are looking for another movie to see during the holidays — perhaps if you're visiting your hometown and you run into a bunch of old high school friends — this is a funny, enjoyable runner-up.

New GODS OF EGYPT Trailer is Just as Ridiculous as The First

$

If there was any chance the laughably ridiculous trailer for Gods of Egypt may have been a fluke, that chance has vanished with this new look at the movie.

Lionsgate has released a second trailer for Alex Proyas' new epic, along with a couple of images that look like Transformers were dipped in liquid gold for some reason. This whole movie just seems like a spectacularly bad idea, and it looks like Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (who's great on Game of Thrones) made a grave mistake associating himself with this. Gerard Butler walks around shouting like he never left the world of 300, but while that film at least felt reminiscent of the comic on which it was based, this feels more like George Lucas' Star Wars prequels: nothing but green screens as far as the eye can see, and no real weight to the action. I suspect this might make money international, where audiences seemingly don't care as much about narrative and characters as they do about visual effects and watching things blow up, but I'm guessing this will be DOA when it hits U.S. theaters on February 26th, 2016.

In this spectacular action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt, the survival of mankind hangs in the balance as an unexpected mortal hero Bek [Brenton Thwaites] undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. In order to succeed, he must enlist the help of the powerful god Horus [Nikolaj Coster-Waldau] in an unlikely alliance against Set [Gerard Butler], the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt's throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict.  As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the epic final confrontation.

3 New BATMAN V SUPERMAN Character Posters

Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman grace the covers of these new character posters that were just released for Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Our three heroes are looking determined to save the world from a new evil that's threatening it. Of course, Batman and Superman will have to fight each other first!

The latest trailer that was released for the film had a lot of mixed reaction from fans. Some were excited, others were pissed off that it gave away so much, and then there were some who were confused about how to feel. One of my favorite comments from a reader sums it up pretty well when he said:

"There was something TERRIBLE about this. But there was also something AWESOME about this. I'm so confused and thrilled."

There's one thing I think we can all agree on: whether it's good or bad, this movie will be entertaining to watch.

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Jason Momoa will be making his first appearance as Aquaman.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to open worldwide on March 25th, 2016.

Guess Who Provided The Voice For BB-8 in THE FORCE AWAKENS?

$

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hasn't even hit theaters yet, but the cute little droid BB-8 has already become a fan favorite character. Want proof? Check out all of the stuff we've already written about that's been tagged with "BB-8." The droid is a jaw-dropping practical creation that fits perfectly into the world of the film, and it practically steals the movie. The character will surely become even more beloved over the years (rightfully so), but here's something that might be surprising to fans right now: two awesome actors actually did voice work to give the character a vocal personality.

Drew McWeeny at Hitfix noticed that two guys are credited as "BB-8 Vocal Consultant": Saturday Night Live and Trainwreck star Bill Hader, and Ben Schwartz, who played the incomparable Jean-Ralphio on Parks and Recreation and stars on Showtime's House of Lies. Drew reached out to Hader to ask him about his experience, and the actor described it like this:

"JJ f**king around with this sound effects app on his iPad that was attached to a talk box operated by me. It looked ridiculous but it made BB-8's voice. At first I tried doing a voice, but we all agreed it sounded too human."

What a cool piece of trivia! As you all know, The Force Awakens opens in theaters tomorrow night. You can read my spoiler-free review right here.

Watch: STAR WARS Cast Sings A Cappella Theme Song, and Oscar Isaac Croons Like Bill Murray

I don't know if you've heard, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out this week. If you're trying to avoid spoilers, you can check out my spoiler-free review here, but if you don't want to see any more footage or know anything about the movie at all before you see it, then I have two fun videos for you that will scratch your Star Wars itch with zero chance of being spoiled.

First up, here's the cast singing an a cappella version of John Williams' iconic score on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, accompanied by Fallon himself and The Roots:

Fun, right? To continue the music theme, The Force Awakens' Oscar Isaac busted out an acoustic guitar for GQ and started playing "Broadway" before turning it into a cover of Bill Murray's famous SNL crooner Nick Winters' version of the Star Wars theme song. You know the one. Isaac, who used to be in a ska band in the '90s (!), recently showed off his singing skills in the Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis, so of course he does a great job with this.

Quentin Tarantino Accuses Disney of "Going Out Of Their Way To F—" Him with STAR WARS

$

0

Looks like just one Quentin Tarantino controversy isn't enough for this holiday season.

The writer/director of The Hateful Eight went on The Howard Stern Show to air his grievances with The Walt Disney Company, who he claims is "going out of their way to f*ck" him with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It's not that Tarantino thinks his film stands any real chance at competing with the space epic at the box office, but that he claims Disney is screwing with his film's planned release strategy in order to keep The Force Awakens in a certain theater for a longer period of time.

We were gonna play at the Cinerama Dome on the 25th. We were gonna open there and play there exclusively for two weeks. And Star Wars was gonna play the two weeks before us. And I grew up in Los Angeles, so I think of the Cinerama Dome as a real big deal and imagine seeing it at the Cinerama Dome. So the thing about it was, Disney, who owns Star Wars, decided, 'Well, you know what? Maybe we wanna play throughout the entire holiday season. So we’re gonna go to the Cinerama Dome and say that they can’t honor their contract with us to show the Hateful Eight.'
And the Arclight people that own the Cinerama Dome, said 'No no, you can’t do that. We have a deal with The Hateful Eight people, and showing it in 70[mm]. That’s what we do.' […] As of yesterday, Disney came to the Arclight people and said 'No, you are going to play Star Wars in the Cinerama Dome for the entire holiday season, and if you don’t, if you honor your deal with The Hateful Eight, we will not allow you to have Star Wars, the biggest movie in the world, we will not allow you to show it at any of your Arclight movie theaters.'

Wow. That seems like a real dick move on Disney's part. Tarantino continued:

They’ve got the biggest movie in the world. We’re talking about one effing theater…they are going out of their way to fuck me […] It’s vindictive, it’s mean, and it’s extortion. They literally threatened the Arclight. They didn’t need to be this vindictive. There’s a few movies coming out around the same time…none of us are any serious competition to Star Wars.

Stern put a call out to Disney CEO Bob Iger and to J.J. Abrams (whom Tarantino does not blame — he blames "the Disney people" making those decisions, not "the Star Wars people") to fix this, so we'll see if they end up taking back their threat. I mean, we're talking about one theater in Los Angeles. It definitely wouldn't make a huge difference in the long run with Star Wars' performance, especially since it has a full week to play there before Christmas Day anyway. This seems like a typical Hollywood power play, with some executive trying to establish dominance, but we'll see if by getting awareness out there, Tarantino is able to remedy the situation.

Here's Deadpool's Crazy HOME ALONE-Inspired Battle Plan

"#12DaysOfDeadpool just got real, ya filthy animals."

Ryan Reynolds has revealed the twisted battle plan that Deadpool has come up with. As you can see, it was inspired by the classic Christmas movie Home Alone. Of course, his plan includes Komodo dragons, honey badgers, medical waste syringes, canons, booby traps, flamethrowers, and a red-hot spring-loaded nut-punching door knob. The plan was created by Deviant Art user Heidi, who offers the following note:

The countdown continues!  The world's most unconventional antihero, Deadpool, is jingling his bells and stroking his yule log on day three of #12DaysOfDeadpool with this spring-loaded, nut-punching battle plan.  And you'll only find this exclusive piece of content, in all its crayon-y glory, here on DeviantArt!

With the holiday season upon us, Deadpool pays homage to classic 'Home Alone' memories by answering the question, "What would happen if Deadpool was the one left to defend his house?"  Never one to miss out on giving a pounding, Deadpool puts a new spin on Kevin's plan by beefing up booby traps and sprinkling liberally with honey badgers.

There's a new trailer for Deadpool set to be released on Christmas Day, so stay tuned for that awesomeness!

OITNB's Taylor Schilling Joins Sam Worthington in Sci-Fi Film THE TITAN

$

I'm only familiar with Taylor Schilling's work on the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black, in which she plays the show's lead character, Piper Chapman. Piper is the worst, and Schilling makes her fun to hate (or at least strongly dislike). But it looks like Schilling is heading from a women's prison to the world of sci-fi, because Deadline reports that she's joining Avatar star Sam Worthington in a new sci-fi movie called The Titan.

Set in a not-too-distant future, it tracks the journey of a military family that is relocated to take part in a groundbreaking experiment of man’s genetic evolution into space.

Could that description be any more vague? I don't know if the producers are trying to keep the story details under wraps because the movie is dependent on twists and surprises, or if they just did a terrible job writing a compelling synopsis.

I've mostly been able to avoid Worthington since Avatar, but he actually popped up in three movies I reviewed here in 2015: Kidnapping Mr. HeinekenThe Keeping Room, and Everest. He's about to come back in a big way with three of James Cameron's Avatar sequels planned for the next few years, and unless he shows tremendous growth as an actor, I'm not looking forward to casting directors remembering he exists and his inevitable resurgence in movies I want to see.

As for Schilling, though, I'm very interested in seeing what she can do outside the walls of Litchfield Penitentiary. I've heard good things about a dark comedy she was in this year called The Overnight that I still want to check out, and we'll see how she does in the sci-fi genre with this one. Production starts in Europe next month, with rookie helmer Lennart Ruff directing from Max Hurwitz's (Hell On Wheels) screenplay. Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins, Rush Hour, Michael Clayton) also stars. What do you think?

Looking for a short video to raise your spirits and put a smile on your face?

Luke Skywalker may be hidden from almost all of the marketing for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the man who plays him, Mark Hamill, grabbed Darth Vader and R2-D2 and headed over to Children's Hospital Los Angeles to hang out and play with the kids there.

A hospital full of Padawans...trained by Luke Skywalker! Huge thanks to Lucasfilm, Mark Hamill, Steven Blum, and the The 501st Legion for visiting the kids at CHLA. Still smiling, our kids are. Yeesssssss. #‎StarWars Day at CHLA!

Marvel Releases Updated Synopsis for CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

0

Marvel Studios has officially released a new, updated synopsis for Captain America: Civil War. I know we pretty much know what to expect from the film from the first trailer that was released, but in case you're aching for something more regarding the film, other than seeing Spider-Man, then this synopsis should tide you over for the day.

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, and Frank Grillo, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl

Anthony and Joe Russo are directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War opens in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2016.

How LUKE CAGE Series Will Be Different from DAREDEVIL and JESSICA JONES

$

0

We got our first taste of Mike Colter as Luke Cage in Marvel’s Jessica Jones series. I absolutely loved the character, and I wondered how his standalone series would be different from what we’ve already seen Marvel do with their Netflix series. Well, now I have a better idea of that, thanks to an interview Collider conducted with Colter. The actor explained:

"I feel like they all have their own story and their own thing that they’re doing, and they’re not going to be compared to one another, except for the fact that they are in the same genre. Jessica’s storyline is so different from Daredevil’s storyline. Daredevil’s storyline is so different from mine. There’s a social aspect involved with Luke Cage, there is a criminal element involved, and there is a procedural element involvement. We focus on a variety of different things. I think it will be a surprise."

Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones definitely brought their own unique vibes and styles, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Luke Cage brings to the table in terms of setting its own tone.

With all of these different styles being developed for these characters, it's going to be interesting to see how they all blend together when The Defenders rolls around.

Season one of Luke Cage will debut on Netflix in 2016.
