behind-the-scenes-look-at-the-x-files-revival-and-new-photos

If you're excited for The X-Files revival, then you'll want to watch this new featurette that offers us a behind-the-scenes look at the series.  The "First Look" promo video features the cast and crew discussing the mythology of the series, and they tease what we will see in the six new episodes they've created for us. And of course there's some cool video footage to watch.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their iconic roles as Agent Fox Mulder and Agent Dana Scully in the upcoming event series which will encompass a mixture of stand-alone investigative episodes and those that further the original show’s seminal mythology. In the opening episode, Mulder and Scully take on a case of a possible alien abductee. The all-new episodes will feature appearances by guest stars, including Joel McHale (“Community”), Robbie Amell (“The Flash”), Lauren Ambrose (“Dig,” “Six Feet Under”), Annabeth Gish (“The Bridge”), Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”), Rhys Darby (“Flight of the Conchords”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”) and William B. Davis, who reprises his role as “Cigarette Smoking Man.” Three of the episodes are written and directed by Chris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by original series veterans Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong.

The new X-Files returns to Fox with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, January 24th, and continuing on Monday, January 25th. To catch up on all of our X-Files news, click here.

Player:Piano Performs The Ultimate STAR WARS Medley

After hearing the Star Wars theme song being played on guitar by Cooper Carter, we can now find out what the song sounds like when it is being played on a piano.

Concert pianist Sonya Belousova and filmmaker Tom Grey are famous for their epic recreations of geeky music on pianos. (We've featured their work a number of times on the site already.) Now they return to amaze Star Wars fans with a beautiful and slightly gentler variant of the saga’s theme song on a modular piano. During Belousova's performance, the instrument undergoes visual changes — from Darth Vader’s outfit, to the Millennium Falcon, to R2-D2. The pianist also changes her appearance and clothes that she wears to match the look of her piano.

"We will not go quietly into the night!"

The first thrilling trailer for Roland Emmerich's Independence Day: Resurgence has been unleashed online, and this sequel looks awesome! If you're a fan of the first film, then this trailer is going to hit you in all the right spots and get you excited to see this sequel.

The movie stars Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward. It's a shame Will Smith didn't come back to reprise his role, but the movie looks like it will do just fine without him.

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Independence Day: Resurgence invades theaters on June 24th, 2016.

Hot Toys has announced a 1/6th scale version of the Batmobile that we'll see in action in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The collectibles company will unveil the Batmobile in all its glory at the Hot Toys booth (F01-16) in the upcoming Toy Soul 2015 on December 18th in Hong Kong. You can see a couple of other photos of the interior of the vehicle below.

I've also included a new promo video for the film to help build some hype. There's no new footage in it, though. It's just kind of a sizzle reel style teaser. You can watch it below the Hot Toys photos.

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters March 25th.

3 Minute Quicksilver Scene In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Took Over a Month to Shoot

We’ve already heard that Quicksilver is going to have another amazing action sequence in X-Men: Apocalypse. We got a little taste of in the first trailer for the film. We weren’t shown anything mind-blowing, but it will be in the film, and it will most likely be even better than the prison breakout scene at the Pentagon in Days of Future Past

Evan Peters reprises his role as Quicksilver, and apparently he was the hardest working actor on the set of X-Men: Apocalypse. The major scene that he shot in the film is only three minutes long, but it took him, director Bryan Singer, and the rest of the team a month and a half to shoot.

In an interview with Empire, Singer had this to say:

“There’s one sequence that took one and a half months to shoot for three minutes of film. It involves the most complex camera moves, very sophisticated explosive algorithms, 3D Phantom cameras traveling at 50mph while shooting at 3,100 frames per second. Evan worked more days on this movie than any other actor because of this one sequence.”

I can’t wait to see how this scene actually plays out. Sounds like it will end up being freakin’ spectacular! Quicksilver is going to steal the movie again! The movie hits theaters on May 27th, 2016.

Spider-Man Vs. Darth Maul in New Episode of Super Power Beat Down!

The latest episode of batinthesun’s Super Power Beat Down features an epic fight between Spider-Man and Darth Maul. This is a battle that I can honestly say I never expected to see, but it sure is awesome! There’s a lot of witty banter from Spider-Man as he fights Darth Maul, which I enjoyed. The fight choreography is also pretty spectacular. Oh! And there’s a cameo in short that I didn’t see coming at all! I had a blast watching these two characters fight, and I thought the way it ended was perfect. I won’t tell you who survives, but after you watch it, let us know what you think! You can skip ahead to the 6:40 mark in the video to watch the fight.

Ridley Scott Reveals That Every Version of The Xenomorph will be in ALIEN: COVENANT

Remember that time when Ridley Scott was promoting Prometheus and he kept saying that it wasn’t connected to Alien? We all knew he was full of it. Now he’s embracing the Alien aspect of the franchise like he’s never embraced it before. He plans on making three new films that will lead up to the events that take place in his original Alien movie.

The first film in this new trilogy is called Alien: Covenant, and during an interview with The Wrap, Scott reveals that the entire breadth of the Xenomorph lifecycle will return. He explains:

“We’ll have them all. Egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy.”

The official synopsis for the film explains that this first movie will in some way connect directly to Scotts 1979 sci-fi horror classic. Covenant centers on a new team of explorers bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy.

“The crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”

Scott goes on to say:

“They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made. Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it."

I’m curious to learn what the answers to all of these questions are. if there are going to be eggs, I wonder if we will see the Queen Xenomorph as well. I like that Scott is ready to fully dive into this Alien mythology, hopefully, he ends up making a new trio of awesome movies that all fans will embrace, unlike Prometheus

Alien: Covenant opens in theaters on October 6th, 2017.

Wonder Woman Is Ready for Takeoff in New QMx Q-Fig

QMx is responsible for the Q Pop series (otherwise known as Q Figs) of DC Collectibles, and they've chosen the warrior amazon to be the newest entry in the line. Wonder Woman takes her invisible jet to the skies in this adorable PVC figure, and it's just delightful. I love how sweet her expression is, and while the figures in the series are small, they are pretty reasonably priced at $15 to $20. Every entry in the line also features a small whiteboard to write messages on, but they are quite small, so a few words is all you're going to get.

You can pre order the figure here. It releases early next year.

Rock Out to the First Trailer for STAR TREK BEYOND

$

Holy crap! This first trailer for Star Trek Beyond has a very very different feel and vibe to it than any of the other Star Trek films that have been made in the past. The trailer is carried by the classic Beastie Boys song "Sabotage," which was used in Star Trek, directed by J.J. Abrams. The trailer is very fast-paced, action-packed and chaotic. A lot of the trailers we've seen in the past have had a magical, mysterious feel to it to set that classic Star Trek mood. This trailer has none of that!

I'm curious to hear what fans think about it. It was really jarring for me. I was watching the trailer I was thinking to myself, "What is this!? This doesn't feel like a Star Trek movie at all!" I've watched the trailer a few times already, and I'm still not sure what to think. I need to see more. I do wish it felt more like a Star Trek movie, but this is obviously going to be a Star Trek film for a new generation.

The movie was directed by Justin Lin (Fast and Furious movies), and it stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John ChoAnton Yelchin, Idris Elba, and Sofia Boutella

Star Trek Beyond opens in theaters on July 22nd, 2016. Let us know what you think of the trailer!

There Will Be a Bigger Villainous Threat Than Doomsday in BATMAN V SUPERMAN

there-will-be-a-bigger-villainous-threat-than-doomsday-in-batman-v-superman

A lot of fans complained about the last trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice because some people think that it showed way too much. I was actually really surprised that they threw Doomsday in there. I thought that element would have been something they'd want save for people to see when they saw the movie, but I guess not.

Doomsday made his debut in 1992's "The Death of Superman" story arc, and as you saw in the trailer Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) creates the monstrous villain using Zod's (Michael Shannon) dead body. This threat will unite Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot).

Turns out there is actually going to be more to it than that, and there's something big in the story that hasen't officially been revealed yet. During an interview with Premiereproduction designer Patrick Tatopoulos talked about the film and assured fans that the there are a lot of things being kept under wraps for this movie. He said:

"We are able to tell a story in a fresh way. Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of 'The Death of Superman' story, but this is handled in such a new way."

He goes on to explain Lex's actions in the story:

"When the film is called Batman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn't just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex's plan to protect the world. Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod... then how would that evolve into Doomsday."

He goes on to tease a dangerous threat that is even bigger than Doomsday, saying:

"Doomsday isn't just the final act. Those feeling they may know too much this early are going to be in for a true surprise."

Tatopoulos then explains that "timeframe of how things fall into place will surprise fans" invloving this "larger threat." We're just going to have to wait until March 25th to see what it is. I can't help but think that it will involve Darkseid, a character that has been rumored to be part of the DCEU in the past.

SNL STAR WARS Toy Commercial Makes Fun of Adult Collectors

Yep, when the new line of Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys were released, I went out and bought myself a few of them. I've collected Star Wars toys throughout my life, but I'm not as bad as I was when I was younger. Having grown up on Star Wars, it's hard not to want to get my hands on some of these toys!

As you know, there are a lot of adult collectors like me out there. Many of them are even crazier about it than I am, and that's ok! This weekend, Saturday Night Live had a little fun at the expense of adult Star Wars toy collectors and how we don't want to take the toys out of the box, how toys are for display only, and how they are not to be played with.

You can watch the hilarious video sketch that pokes fun at us below. It's all true!

The Fate of Will Smith's INDEPENDENCE DAY Character Revealed

Learn How Will Smith's INDEPENDENCE DAY Character Steven Hiller Was Killed Off

It's no secret that Will Smith is not reprising his role of Steven Hiller in Independence Day: Resurgence. Director Roland Emmerich tried to get him back, but Smith turned him down, and the sequel was made without him. The first trailer was released over the weekend, and it was surprisingly pretty awesome! It's a shame Smith didn't come back.

Well, thanks to a viral website that has been launched, we have some details on the history of the Earth in the wake of the alien battle from the first film. It reveals that Hiller was killed while test piloting an alien hybrid fighter jet. The news is dated April 27th, 2007, and the slide reads as follows:

“While test piloting the ESD’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller. Hiller’s valor in the War of 96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan.”

It was previously announced that Vivica Fox will reprise her role of Jasmine Hiller, and Jessie Usher is taking on the role of her son, Dylan. The movie also stars Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward.

We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

The film will be released in theaters on June 24th, 2016. Why would Smith agree to do Men In Black III and not do this one!?

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Gets a Funny New Holiday Special

When the Star Wars Holiday Special was released all those years ago, we saw the warning signs that George Lucas might have been losing it. Fans let it go thinking it was some kind of fluke...then he made those prequel films.

Funny or Die has created and released a new Star Wars Holiday Special in celebration of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which comes out this week. This is just as absurd as the first one, but the fact that it’s done intentionally makes it funny and worth watching.

In the special, BB-8 is anxious to get home for a holiday called Droid Day. For some reason, Kylo Ren is accompanying him on his journey, and Captain Phasma is hunting down the droid. Why? Because the droid is so loved that she thinks he can inspire the First Order.

It's completely ridiculous, but that's the whole point!

Even Jennifer Lawrence Thinks Its "Too Soon" For HUNGER GAMES Prequels

A few days ago, the entertainment vice chairman for Lionsgate revealed that the studio is very serious about making more Hunger Games movies, and they're most likely going to be prequels so they can return to the arena-based carnage of the first film in the franchise. Many fans seem to be against this idea, and now we can add one more person to the list of those who think this is a bad idea: The Hunger Games franchise star Jennifer Lawrence.

In an interview with Variety, Lawrence was asked about her thoughts on the prequel idea and whether or not she would return to reprise her role of Katniss Everdeen:

“I wouldn’t be involved. I think it’s too soon. They’ve got to let the body get cold, in my opinion.”

MTV points out that Lawrence has spoken about this subject before, telling them:

“I think the most likely thing that will happen when everybody tries to suck this thing dry is probably going to be a prequel with younger actresses,” she joked. “But if I had my way, it’d be a Woody Allen dystopian future and Cate Blanchett would play me.”

At least that would be a creative take on telling more stories in this universe. I imagine it'll be infinitely more interesting than whatever the studio actually ends up doing. But since Lionsgate is intent on making sure this franchise will "live on and on and on," we're probably in for at least a couple more trips to Panem before this franchise is allowed to rest peacefully.

J.J. Abrams Talks About Rian Johnson's Script For STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII

$

0

It's finally happening. Star Wars: The Force Awakens premieres in Hollywood tonight and Joey and I will be seeing it at a press screening tomorrow, so we'll have plenty of thoughts for you in the coming days, including a spoiler-free review at midnight on Tuesday (12:01am Wednesday) and then a spoiler-filled discussion piece after the movie officially opens. I know writer/director J.J. Abrams will be thrilled to see the film open so he won't have to contain all of its secrets any longer, and he'll be back as an executive producer on the next two movies in the saga trilogy.

The next film, Star Wars: Episode VIII, is being written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper), and though Kennedy spoke very briefly about that in the recent press conference, I haven't heard Abrams talk too much about the sequel since he's been so busy with his own movie. But /Film spoke with him about developing the new trilogy, starting with writing the screenplay for The Force Awakens:

We don’t write a treatment but there are countless times we came up with something and said “oh, this would be so great for Episode VIII!” or “Thats what we could get to in IX!” It was just that kind of forward moving story. But we knew this had to neither be a backwards moving nostalgic trip only nor a beginning of a movie without a satisfying conclusion, and that was part of the balancing act — embracing what we have inherited and using that where and whenever possible to tell a story that hasn’t been seen yet. We also knew that certain things were inevitable in our minds but that didn’t mean it would be inevitable for whoever came in next.
When Rian who I admire enormously and adore, came on board, we met and talked with him about all the things we were working on and playing with, and he as a spectacular writer and director has taken those things and has written an AMAZING script that I think will be an incredible next chapter, some of which incorporating things we were thinking of and other things are things we could never of dreamed of.

I'll have a piece for you later today on why the future of the Star Wars franchise is very exciting, but for now, let me just say that I don't think this is your typical Hollywood B.S. from Abrams. I don't doubt Johnson truly has written an amazing script and I'm thrilled to see how the trilogy continues after The Force Awakens. As soon as everyone rabidly consumes Abrams' movie, Star Wars fans are going to be thinking about nothing but Episode VIII until 2017.

Tom Hiddleston Narrates First Teaser Trailer For HIGH-RISE

$
0
0

It's become commonplace for most studios to release viral videos for their big films in addition to trailers as a way to engage with fans before the movie actually arrives in theaters. But this new video for High-Rise is unique because it seems to serve as both a viral video and a teaser trailer.

For those who don't know, High-Rise is directed by Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Sightseers, A Field in England) and based on the 1975 book by J.G. Ballard. It stars Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, and Elisabeth Moss, and it centers on "a young, respectable doctor, Robert Laing (Hiddleston), who moves into a new luxury apartment seeking anonymity. The building, a Brutalist concrete tower block, is inhabited by eccentric tenants who let off steam in endless rounds of themed parties and raucous, drink-and-drug-fuelled orgies. Sitting literally atop this insular society is the high-rise’s architect and owner, Mr. Royal (Jeremy Irons), whose penthouse suite beggars description and has nothing to do with the rest of his design. As Robert settles into his new abode without ever really unpacking properly, the tower and its social complexities begin to take over his life."

The teaser trailer not only reveals the first footage from the movie, but also works as a viral video promoting the high-rise building in which the main character lives. The film has received very mixed reviews from its festival run earlier this year, but we'll all get a chance to see it and decide for ourselves what we think about it when it hits theaters sometime in 2016.
