Deadpool gets a little cheeky in this international UK poster for the upcoming movie. 20th Century Fox released the poster on Twitter with the following note:

"Finally, a hero with worthwhile assets."

This playful poster will have to tide us over until we get a new trailer to watch. Ryan Reynolds stars in the Tim Miller-directed film alongside Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein, Gina Carano, and Brianna Hildebrand

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is set to be released on February 12th, 2016.

New A VERY MURRAY CHRISTMAS Trailer Highlights The Music

Now that it's December, we only have a few more days to wait before A Very Murray Christmas comes to Netflix. The musical variety show, directed by Sofia Coppola and starring living legend Bill Murray, hits the streaming service this Friday, and after seeing the first two trailers, I can't wait to see the final special.

Today Netflix dropped a brand new trailer to promote the event, and this one is structured like one of those old commercials that used to be on TV all of the time advertising themed compilation CDs. This one highlights the musical aspect of the show, but that's just a part of what's going to take place in the special: there's a whole story about Murray being snowed in at NYC's Carlyle hotel, and you can read the full synopsis and check out the new trailer below. Let the holiday season begin!

This winter, Bill Murray brings an extra-special dose of holiday cheer to Netflix with the premiere of an all-star musically-driven holiday special, A Very Murray Christmas. Set inside New York City’s iconic Carlyle hotel, A Very Murray Christmas opens with Murray preparing to host a live, international holiday broadcast. After a blizzard shuts down the production, he makes the best of the situation by singing and celebrating with friends, hotel employees and anyone else who drops by.

10 Fan Theories That Drastically Change How We See Popular Movies

I enjoy hearing and reading fan theories for certain movies. I've come across a few in my day that have blown my mind and changed the way that I see those movies. I love how imaginative people can get when coming up with these theories, and it's awesome how so many of them make complete sense!

Screen Rant has released a new video list called "10 Movie Theories That Completely Change Popular Films," and some of the films included in the video that they talk about includes The Lord of the Rings, Mad Max: Fury Road, Drag Me to Hell, James Bond, Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Thing, and more.

A great twist ending, big reveal or hidden meaning can make a movie even more fun to watch and watch again, but sometimes, it's the fans who end up crafting a theory that makes the original film seem even more brilliant than it could on its own. Not every fan theory is as inspired or clever as the best of them, but every so often, they make watching a classic movie twice as much fun - and can even make the original writers look bad. Here are Screen Rant's 10 Movie Theories That Completely Change Popular Films.

Possible X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Trailer Description

possible-x-men-apocalypse-trailer-description-surfaces

The first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse will be attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and I imagine it will be released online shortly before. While we wait for that, we have a possible description of the trailer for you to read through. It comes from the Italian movie site Cinefilos, and it was translated by ComicBook.com

You can always just wait for the trailer to be released, but if you're as impatient as I am, then you can read the description below:

The trailer opens with Jean Grey waking from a nightmare. She tells Professor Xavier something along the lines of, “I have seen the end of the world. There was only death.”
There’s a montage of footage of the young mutants at Xavier’s school, followed by a scene of Moira MacTaggert telling Xavier that they’ve discovered a god-like mutant who may be the origin of the species.
Cut to a shot of an intimidating hooded figure being followed by Psylocke and Storm. They search for mutants, and the hooded figure lists the many names he has been known by over the centuries. He says that the world needs to change, and be remade by mutants. The three of them find Magneto. Magneto asks, “Who are you?” The figure pulls down his hood to reveal the face of Apocalypse.
There’s a montage of the destruction caused by Apocalypse.
We see a shot of Xavier looking frightened. Either he or Jean says, “It can control all of us.” We’re shown two opposing groups of mutants (likely Apocalypse’s Horsemen and Xavier’s students and/or allies). Apocalypse sends a burst of energy through Xavier and his wheelchair, and Jean screams
There’s a slow motion scene of Quicksilver running through the hallway leading towards Cerebro.
Mystique tells Xavier, “I came to fight.”
Professor X enters the Cerebro chamber, and his eyes become black. He says, “I’ve never felt like this before,” and is possibly possessed by Apocalypse.
The final shot is of a bald Professor X.

It sounds like it will be pretty similar to what was shown at San Diego Comic-Con, but I'm sure it will be more polished, with completed special effects and even some new footage.

X-Men: Apocalypse arrives in theaters on on May 27th, 2016.

This Is The Lightsaber Silverware You're Looking For

The lightsaber is unquestionably one of the most enduring elements of George Lucas's Star Wars saga. The laser sword has captured the imagination of generations of film geeks, and we've seen crafty fans come up with a ton of variations on the sci-fi weapon to fit various needs and uses, including keys, toothbrushes, BBQ tongs, flashlights, sunglasses, pens, ice pops, lamps, and more.

Now ThinkGeek is here with a different iteration of the lightsaber: as silverware. With the holidays coming up, this seems like a nice gift opportunity.

Make every meal a little bit more more civilized with this set of 3 utensils featuring lightsaber handles. The fork features Luke's lightsaber hilt, the spoon features Yoda's, and the knife features Vader's. We were pondering whether the choice of implements for the characters indicated anything, like the knife is there to tear things apart, but we couldn't really make any connections. Except that Yoda's really old. He probably likes pudding. Pistachio.
Note: These are the hilts only. They do not light up. They are not "actual" lightsabers. This is for the best. It'd be hard to use a fork that cut things every time you went to skewer it. And imagine trying to eat ice cream with a lightsaber spoon...

Sebastian Stan Discusses Winter Soldier’s Past in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

As we’ve seen in the trailer, Bucky Barnes/The Winter Solider plays a big role in the Captain America: Civil War storyline. In fact, it looks like he’s one of the main reasons that Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are at odds and looking to fight each other. Why is Stark so hell-bent on getting his hands on Bucky?

In a recent interview with Sebastian Stan he talks about his character and says that we’ll learn more about his history. Stan explains:

"Where we find him after Winter Soldier, he's in a place where he is learning about himself. And he's discovering  -- as you saw in the last scene of The Winter Soldier, at the museum -- he's starting to put the pieces together, starting to learn about the past. Where he's been. What he's done. And as you'll see in the next movie, it doesn't come without a huge price: emotionally, mentally and uh... Yeah, it's not easy for him learn about what he's done."

Winter Solider has killed an awful lot of people over the years while he was under the control of Hydra. He touches on that, saying:

“You have to remember it is the same Hydra, in a sense, that is responsible for him still being alive. And what happened before the movie Winter Soldier – and there will be a lot of things sort of made more clear in Civil War about what happened with him – kind of set up this relationship that he may always have with Hydra, one way or another. Because in a way they are like his second family. If that makes sense.”

I have a theory that The Winter Solider may be responsible for Howard Stark’s death, which is why Tony is willing to fight Captain America and his team to bring him to justice. There are other story details that can connect to that, which you can read here. I just don't want to throw it out there and spoil what those details are. Stan obviously won’t give any crazy details, but he does say this:

"Without giving anything away, all I can say is that he's a problem for a lot of people."

It’s going to be a fun experience watching all of the details of Winter Solider’s past unfold in this movie. I’m especially curious to see how it all concludes. You can watch Stan talk about all of this in the video interview below from marvelite. Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016. STAR WARS: Beautiful Madmen Lose Their Minds Over Abrams/Miranda Team-Up, Create #Force4Ham

You could argue (and I would, although not in this post) that the two biggest cultural happenings this year are Hamilton: An American Musical and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So when The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams revealed that he had secretly collaborated with Hamilton writer/composer/star Lin-Manuel Miranda on the music for a new cantina scene, twitter exploded in mashup memes and gifs. You know, the way twitter does. They are all collected under #Force4Ham, and they are worth checking out. I’ve included a few of my favorites, plus a special treat from Alex Lacamoire, Hamilton’s Music Director, orchestrator, and co-arranger.

All of the tweets in this collection feature stills or gifs from Star Wars paired with lyrics from Hamilton. They are the most accessible to people unfamiliar with the show. If these pique your interest in the show, you can (and should!) check out the cast recording on Spotify, or sell your soul for tickets. It’s sold out through next fall.

Is MAD MAX: FURY ROAD The Best Movie of 2015?

$

0

I have a confession. I don't even know if this is acceptable to say on a site that extensively covers film, but here goes: I only liked Mad Max: Fury Road, I didn't love it. Whew — glad to have that off my chest. The movie is a phenomenal piece of filmmaking, especially from someone as old as George Miller, but while the action was cool and the visuals and world-building aspects were impressive (among a bunch of other positives), the film just didn't click for me as much as it did for seemingly everyone else who saw it.

The National Board of Review doesn't agree with me, though, because they've just named it the Best Film of 2015. Here's a selection of some of their awards:

Best Film:  Mad Max: Fury Road
Best Director:  Ridley Scott – The Martian
Best Actor:  Matt Damon – The Martian
Best Actress: Brie Larson – Room
Best Supporting Actor:  Sylvester Stallone – Creed
Best Supporting Actress:  Jennifer Jason Leigh – The Hateful Eight
Best Original Screenplay:  Quentin Tarantino – The Hateful Eight
Best Adapted Screenplay:  Drew Goddard – The Martian
Best Animated Feature:  Inside Out
Top Films
Bridge of Spies
Creed
The Hateful Eight
Inside Out
Spotlight
The Martian
Room
Sicario
Straight Outta Compton

I really like their selection of Top Films, but it's hard to get too worked up about these awards because the National Board of Review is a notoriously mysterious organization that doesn't really have much impact on awards season as a whole. The whole reason I'm writing about this is just to get you all thinking about some of your favorite films of 2015, and to see how many of you agree with their decision that Mad Max: Fury Road deserves the top slot (because, let's face it, it's not winning Best Picture at the Oscars).

Meanwhile, The Playlist points out that IMDb has released its own list of the top 10 films and TV shows of the year, according to its user ratings. There are some surprising choices in here — namely that mega-hits like Jurassic World and Furious 7 were left off — but again, as the year comes to a close, it's time to start thinking about your favorite movies and TV shows and ranking them accordingly. I know I'll be posting at least one year-end list in the coming weeks, and some of my colleagues here may be writing up lists of their own, but in the meantime, let us know what you think about Mad Max taking the top spot from the National Board of Review and start getting your own lists ready.

First Quick Teaser For The KICKBOXER Reboot, Starring Dave Bautista and JCVD

The reboot of Kickboxer is apparently still happening, and now we can take a look at the first quick teaser trailer for the film. Entitled Kickboxer Vengeance (or possibly Kickboxer: Vengeance — I'm still not sure about the official inclusion of that colon), the story follows "Kurt Sloan (Alain Moussi), a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand where he must learn the secrets of the kickboxer to avenge his brother's death at the hands of Tong Po (Dave Bautista)." Jean-Claude Van Damme, the star of the original 1989 movie, also has a role here, though he's not playing the same character he did the first time around. Instead, he'll play an updated version of the first film's Master Chow, who trains Moussi's character in preparation for the underground fights.

This first trailer goes by quickly, but its very existence hints that a better look at the film should be on the way very soon. Gina Carano and Georges St. Pierre also star, and though the film doesn't have an official release date yet, I'm guessing we'll see it sometime in the first half of 2016. Sound off below, Kickboxer fans: what do you think about this teaser?

Ben Stiller directed the film, which he also stars in. He talked about the story in a previous interview, saying:

“It’s ten years later and most of it is set in Europe. It’s basically Derek and Hansel ten years later – though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they’re not really relevant anymore. It’s a new world for them.”

The film sees them trying to reinvent themselves as they embark on an adventure to find out who is killing young male models who seem to be Zoolander loyalists.

The movie also stars Owen Wilson, Penélope Cruz, Christine Taylor, Kristen Wiig, and Cyrus Arnold, with cameos by Benedict Cumberbatch, Billy Zane, Fred Armisen, Justin Bieber, Kyle Mooney, Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and more.

Rachel McAdams Says DOCTOR STRANGE Is Not Like Any Other Marvel Film

$

Rachel McAdams is one of the most talented actresses working in Hollywood right now and the fact that she actually joined Marvel’s Doctor Strange is exciting. She’s definitely going to bring something special to the film in whatever role she actually ends up playing. During an interview with MTV, the actress reveals why she accepted the job, saying:

“I mean, I just love the director. I met with Scott [Derrickson] and loved his vision, he was so passionate. And the opportunity to work with Benedict was kind of a no-brainer. And Marvel makes amazing films, so it was a complete package.”

It’s good to know that she has such faith in the director. A lot of people aren’t so sure about him. A lot of his previous film are considered mediocre, but I think he’ll be able to pull it off, especially with Marvel basically spearheading the production.

There’s no official word on who exactly McAdams will be playing in the film, but there’s been rumors and speculation that it could either be Clea, who is one of Stephen Strange’s love interests, or Christine Palmer, who is one of the night shift nurses from Marvel's Night Nurse.

The actress went on to confirm that she has started shooting her part. She doesn’t really say much about the movie, but she does say that it’s going to be different from anything that Marvel has done so far. This is her direct quote:

“It’s definitely not going to be like any of the other films.”

Marvel is definitely entering some different kind of territory with Doctor Strange for the fact that it deals with the supernatural realm of the universe. I’ve seen some of the concept art for the film, and the stuff that they’ve created to bring this story to life is insanely cool looking.

Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4th, 2016.

Lucasfilm Is on the Hunt For Young Han Solo; 2,500 Actors Have Auditioned

$

Don't get cocky, kids! Lucasfilm and Disney are on a massive hunt to find the perfect actor to take on the role of a young Han Solo for the A Star Wars Story standalone film being developed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

The studio put out one of the biggest casting searches ever for the part, and according to THR, 2,500 actors have auditioned for the project so far. They've either met with casting directors or have sent in audition tapes to try and nab one of the most coveted movie roles ever.

Casting director Jeanne McCarthy is leading the charge on this mission to find the perfect young actor to put on the vest. She worked with Lord and Miller on casting the Jump Street movies. According to a casting agent in the industry:

"This has been the easiest movie to audition for. They are seeing everyone."

That's pretty cool for anyone who is interested in playing the part. This just follows the tradition of Lucasfilm casting virtually unknown actors in lead roles. Hell, Harrison Ford was a mostly unknown actor when he was cast in the role of Solo. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Hayden Christiansen, Daisy Ridley... all unknown when they joined the Star Wars franchise.  Here is a list of a few actors that have read for the role:

lucasfilm-is-on-the-hunt-for-young-han-solo-2500-actors-have-auditioned
Actors who have read in person or auditioned via videotape range from the well-known (Dave Franco, 30, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 25, and Miles Teller, 28) to the sort-of-known (Jurassic World's Nick Robinson, 20) to relative unknowns (Kickin' It's Leo Howard, 18, and The Purge's Tony Oller, 24) and also vary significantly in age. Though sources say the "sweet spot" seems to be the mid-20s, the ages of the contenders span from Chandler Riggs, the 16-year-old star of The Walking Dead, to Hunter Parrish, 28, and Mr. Robot star Rami Malek, 34.
Casting directors are not just focusing on American actors, either, considering Canadian Hemlock Grove star Landon Liboiron, 23, and English actors Ed Westwick, 28, Tom Felton, 28, and Joshua Sasse, 27, among many, many others.
Others who have thrown their hats in the ring include Fury's Logan Lerman, 23, The Fault in Our Stars' Ansel Elgort, 21, and Transformers: Age of Extinction's Jack Reynor, 23, plus TV faces like Teen Wolf's Colton Haynes, 27, and Bates Motel's Max Thieriot, 27.

There's a wide variety of actors there, and that just a few of thousands! It's said that they are looking for someone who looks "at least a bit like a young Ford and can be funny and charming as well as handle the expected action scenes." There are also a few young comedians that have have been asked to read for the part.

The script for the film is being written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. The project is being developed under the code name "Red Cup."  The movie is scheduled to start production in January 2017 and is set for release on May 25th, 2018.

Lucasfilm has plenty of time to cast someone in the role, and with all of these actors auditioning, it will be really interesting to see who ends up playing the iconic character.

Carrie Fisher Was Pressured to Lose 35 lbs for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

$

Obviously, Lucasfilm and Disney wanted Carrie Fisher back to reprise her role as General Leia in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but they wanted her to lose weight for the part. In a recent interview with Good Housekeeping, she reveals that that she was pressured to lose at least 35 pounds. She says:

“They don’t want to hire all of me – only about three-quarters! Nothing changes, it’s an appearance-driven thing. I’m in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance. That is so messed up. They might as well say get younger, because that’s how easy it is.”

Despite her frustration of having to drop the pounds, Fisher ended up slimming down for the part. She went on to talk about the magical secrets of losing weight, saying:

“I did it the same way everybody has to – don’t eat and exercise more! There is no other way to do it. I have a harder time eating properly than I do exercising. It’s easier for me to add an activity than to deny myself something. When I do lose the weight I don’t like that it makes me feel good about myself. It’s not who I am. My problem is they talk to me like an actress but I hear them like a writer.”

She wasn’t the only one who was asked to lose weight, though. Mark Hamill also had to slim down for the role of Luke Skywalker, and you know what? From what I’ve seen of them since The Force Awakens has started shooting they look great and healthy. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with staying in shape and eating healthy. She said herself that it made her feel good about herself. I can see the pressure of slimming down for a movie role being discouraging, though.

I wonder how Hamill felt about having to get back into shape because over the years he kinda let himself go. Like I said earlier, though, they both look great, and I'm excited to see how their character story arcs play out of the course of this upcoming trilogy.

Entertainment Weekly has released their most recent magazine cover promoting Marvel's Captain America: Civil War. As you can see, it features Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, and our most detailed look yet at Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther. Talking about the film with the magazine, Evans says:

“In most of the movies, there’s no question who we should be siding with. We all agree Nazis are bad, aliens from space are bad. But this movie’s the first time where you really have two points of view. It becomes a question of morality and I don’t think [Cap] has ever been so uncertain with what right and wrong is.”

Cap has always been determined to fight for what he believes is right, and if that means fighting his friends in the process... so be it. I was completely blown away by the first trailer Marvel released, and I'm sure we'll end up see a lot more awesomeness from the film as we get closer to the release date of May 6th, 2016.

The Flash and Arrow crossover event concludes tonight with the second half, which is called "Legends of Yesterday." Last night's episode was just as fun and entertaining as I expected it to be. Our heroes are taking on Vandal Savage, who is seemingly unbeatable. But they and their teams are trying to figure out a way to take him down. I'm sure they'll succeed because they almost always do! Here's the synopsis:

PART TWO OF THE EPIC CROSSOVER WITH “THE FLASH” — Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Barry Allen (guest star Grant Gustin) take Kendra Saunders (guest star Ciara Renée) and Carter Hall (guest star Falk Henstchel) to a remote location to keep them hidden from Vandal Savage (guest star Casper Crump) while they figure out how to defeat him. Malcolm (John Barrowman) arranges a meeting between Vandal, Green Arrow and The Flash that doesn’t go as planned. Meanwhile, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), Thea (Willa Holland), Diggle (David Ramsey) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) work with Team Flash to come up with a weapon powerful enough to destroy Vandal Savage. Thor Freudenthal directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim and teleplay by Brian Ford Sullivan & Marc Guggenheim (#408).

I also included a video featurette that takes us behind-the-scenes of the event. What did you all think of last night's first crossover episode?
