Chris McQuarrie Confirms Return For MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6

0
0

Last week, word came out that Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation writer/director Chris McQuarrie was in talks to write and possibly direct Mission: Impossible 6, which Paramount Pictures started developing before Rogue Nation hit theaters. Now McQuarrie has taken to Twitter to announce that he will indeed return for the next entry in the long-running spy franchise:

The interesting part is that we don't know whether McQuarrie means he'll come back as a writer/director or just as a writer. Thus far, the M:I series has featured a different director for each iteration, and as much as I liked Rogue Nation, I'd hate to see that tradition come to an end at this stage in the franchise's history.

McQuarrie has worked with Cruise multiple times in his career, on projects ranging from Edge of Tomorrow to Jack Reacher to Valkyrie, and it's no secret that Cruise prefers working with established collaborators. But since Cruise and Paramount have the most say in the matter, we'll see which aspect the actor/producer values more: working with a director with whom he's already worked in this series, or making sure that the Mission: Impossible movies remain a place to showcase a different talented director with each entry.

Like The Rest of Us, Steven Spielberg Thinks THE FORCE AWAKENS "Could Be The Biggest Movie Ever"

0
0

Steven Spielberg knows a thing or two about directing movies that make a ton of money. Right now, both E.T. and Jaws are on the list of top ten highest grossing films of all time (adjusted for inflation), and he's largely seen as being responsible for the birth of the mainstream blockbuster, which is a designation you probably have strong feelings about, depending on your tastes and opinions about today's moviegoing culture. In any case, Spielberg's opinion on which movies stand to make mega-bucks at the box office is as valid as the next person's, and he's chimed in on the prospects of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We're only a few weeks away from seeing the new Star Wars movie (a phrase I never thought I'd be able to type), and Spielberg, still making the press rounds for his movie Bridge of Spies (my review here) spoke with RTL and said the following with regards to Star Wars:

I’m a true fan of Star Wars, but I have always felt it was not in my stars to ever direct one. But it was in my stars to admire and attend and see each one numerous times. And I think this new Star Wars could be the biggest movie ever.

As Slashfilm points out, even though the director has already seen The Force Awakens three times already, we should probably take his opinion with a small grain of salt, considering he's a mentor to Abrams and a longtime collaborator with Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy. Not to mention the fact that he's seemed predisposed to liking the Star Wars films in the past due to his close friendship with George Lucas. But with The Force Awakens, Spielberg has no real skin in the game, so to speak — he didn't produce this film or have any official involvement with it, so this should come as a slightly more legitimate comment than, say, someone who actively stands to benefit from the film doing well.

But let's be honest: this isn't exactly a groundbreaking revelation. Anyone who even remotely follows film culture at all is guessing that The Force Awakens is going to make a run at Avatar, Titanic, and Jurassic World for the top spot on the highest-grossing movies of all time list. Whether it can reach that spot depends on whether people go back to see it over and over again, and, of course, whether the movie has as much international appeal as it does abroad. We won't have to wait long to find out how it performs, but I'm more interested in whether or not it's going to be a good movie. Fingers crossed that Abrams and company pulled it off...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters the night of December 17th.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Sneak Peek

It's been about four months since the last trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released at San Diego Comic-Con. Today, a sneak peek premiered with FOX's Gotham and an announcement that a new trailer will premiere on Jimmy Kimmel Live this coming Wednesday. I won't spoil the footage for you, so you can watch it and be surprised.

It's clear that Warner Bros. believes this will finally a jumpstart to a DC cineverse. Wonder Woman has already started shooting, which shows the studio's confidence in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman being a big hit.

Batman v Superman is only four months away from its March 25th, 2016 release date, which means we'll likely get one more trailer before the movie comes out. As someone who really loves Man of Steel, I'm really excited for the showdown.

Tom Hanks Has Started Work on TOY STORY 4

While appearing on The Graham Norton Show, Tom Hanks revealed that he has started the voice work for Woody in Toy Story 4. This is what he said:

"We're now recording Toy Story 4. So we're doing that and it will be out in 2018, so it takes a long time.... We are working on it right now. I have a recording session on the second of December."

He also discussed the challenges of marathon recording sessions, and the toll it takes on his diaphragm. We've known for quite some time that Pixar would be making Toy Story 4, but it was officially announced last year.

The story has been described as a romantic comedy, and it focuses on Woody and his relationship with Bo Peep. Woody and Buzz will have to team up for a new adventure to save Bo and bring her back.

Tim Allen and the rest of the voice cast from the original films will reprise their roles in the John Lasseter-directed film. The film will be in theaters on June 15th, 2018.

The CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Trailer Gets Amusing Unnecessary Censorship

As you know from Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America is one of those goody two-shoes kind of guys who likes to call people out when they use bad language. Well, now, thanks to ComicBook.com, there’s an unnecessary censorship trailer for Captain America: Civil War. There are lots of bleeps that allow your dirty mind to fill in the blanks with whatever vulgarity you can think of. It’s actually quite amusing.

This unnecessary censorship thing became popular when Jimmy Kimmel started doing it on his show. The ones he shares are a bit more polished than this one, though.

Chris Hemsworth Wants Thor and Hulk to Have a Butch Cassidy Kind of Story in THOR: RAGNAROK

The next time we see The Hulk up on the big screen, it will be in Thor: Ragnarok. The two are going to team up for some kind of cosmic adventure. Over the years, we’ve seen the two characters scuffle with each other, but they’re sure to get another shot at each other in Thor: Ragnarok. Mark Ruffalo thinks that they will fight, and now Chris Hemsworth says he thinks Thor would win if they do. In an interview with the Daily News, the actor said:

"I'd like to think I let him win last time, but because this movie is called Thor, I have to win this time.”

But does he, though? It’s always fun to see Hulk and Thor pummel each other. Hulk needs to be there to put Thor in his place sometimes. Hemsworth went on to talk about the kind of story he would like to see in Thor: Ragnarok:

"I hope it's a Butch Cassidy sort of story. That would be fun. I love Mark [Ruffalo]. I think those two characters haven't spent a whole lot of time talking to each other on screen, so it's something new, I think it would bring something different out of the characters… It's hard to have a conversation with the Hulk.”

I’d love to see that Butch Cassidy-inspired story with Thor and Hulk! The movie is obviously going to be more than that, after all, this is reportedly going to be the darkest story yet in the MCU. Of course, Hemsworth does hope there will be some fun Guardians of the Galaxy type humor injected into it.

I’ve enjoyed all of the Thor movies, and I’m excited to see how Thor: Ragnarok turns out. It’s being directed by Taika Waititi and is set to be released on July 28th, 2017. For more information on the movie, you can check out all of our related posts here.

Zoolander is making an epic comeback in Ben Stiller's Zoolander 2, and thanks to Paramount Pictures, we have an international trailer for you to check out today that shows off some new footage of the fashion model's newest adventure. It looks like it could be an incredibly funny sequel.

Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell are back reprising their roles from the original film, and on top of that, you'll be treated with a ton of cameo appearances! The first trailer for Zoolander 2 set a record for the most online views for a comedy trailer in its first week with 52.2M views. As they start down this new path, some of the hottest male models begin to be killed off and all of them died flashing Derek's legendary "Blue Steel" look. ANCHORMAN 3 Might Be About Ron Burgundy Against The Internet

0
0

Nine years after Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy hit theaters, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues debuted with a lot of fanfare (remember that insane marketing campaign? Ron was everywhere) and incredibly high expectations, but I don't think it's made quite the cultural impact that the first one did. Then again, it took a few years for people (myself included) to warm up to the antics of Ron, Brick, Brian, and Champ the first time around, so maybe people will eventually come around to the sequel and it'll become as beloved as the original.

Co-writer/director Adam McKay is on the press circuit right now promoting his new movie The Big Short (read my review from the world premiere right here), and in an interview with Yahoo, he was asked about whether the story of a possible third film in the Anchorman franchise would continue the evolution of the first two films and center on Ron Burgundy facing off against a new type of media: the internet.

That was what we kind of talked about. We talked about doing one that was about the rise of the new media. I also thought there was something to the idea — and who knows, maybe we will do one some day — I also thought it’d be cool to have Ron Burgundy get embedded in the Iraq War. We kicked around that idea. But we’ve never got that serious about it, but it would have to be the next stage of what the media has become. And I think you’re right, I think it’s the internet. The only thing is by then Burgundy would be getting pretty old. So maybe it’s a movie we make in 10 years, when Will’s aged up and it actually makes sense that you can set it in 1997 or 98.

I don't know if general audiences would be game for a third Anchorman film...in fact, I don't even know if hardcore Anchorman fans would be game for one, either. I liked the sequel better on second viewing, and I suspect I'll find it more enjoyable each time I see it, and the idea of Ron against the internet or Ron as a war reporter does admittedly bring a smile to my face, but that's just because I love spending time with those characters. Are you a huge fan? Let me know what you think below.

IP MAN 3 Behind-The-Scenes Fight Choreography With Mike Tyson and Donnie Yen

0
0

I freakin’ love the Ip Man film franchise. The movies feature some of the most beautifully stunning fight choreography that I’ve seen on film. If you want to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it took to bring these fights to life in the upcoming Ip Man 3, we have a great featurette that you have to watch. It includes some of the choreography and training with stars Mike Tyson and Donnie Yen, who will have a epic fight sequence in the movie. It looks like they had a lot of fun planning out their fight scenes.

Donnie Yen (upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2) ignites the screen in a return to the role that made him an icon - as Ip Man, the real-life Wing Chun grandmaster who mentored Bruce Lee. In this explosive third installment of the blockbuster martial arts series, when a band of brutal gangsters led by a crooked property developer (Mike Tyson) make a play to take over the city, Master Ip is forced to take a stand. Fists will fly as some of the most incredible fight scenes ever filmed play out on the big screen in this soon-to-be genre classic.

Ip Man 3 will be released in Hong Kong on December 24th and in the U.S. on January 22nd, 2016. I can’t wait to see it! If you haven't watched the trailer for this movie yet, click here.

RAMBO: NEW BLOOD Father and Son TV Series in Development

0
0

Looks like we are going to get a Rambo TV series at Fox called Rambo: New Blood. The Network just closed a development deal, and Sylvester Stallone is on board as an executive producer. According to Deadline, there's a chance that Stallone could also star in the series, but that is not set in stone. They do say he's expected to reprise his role, which he has played in all four Rambo movies that have been made. The series is said to center around him and his son.

The series is being written by Jeb Stuart (Die Hard, The Fugitive), and according to the report, it "pays homage to the films, exploring the complex relationship between Rambo and his son, J.R., an ex-Navy SEAL." We've never heard of J.R. before. This is a new character who has not been in any of the movies. It sounds like Rambo is a key player in the series, and I don't see how this series would even work without Stallone as Rambo. There would be no point in doing it.

This isn't the first time that producers have made a live-action small screen attempt at Rambo. Nu Image/Millenium Films and eOne were trying to get it going back in 2013. There have also been attempts to get a fifth film off the ground, but with this series in development, it doesn't look like that movie will happen.

As many of you already know, Rambo did get an animated series in 1986 called Rambo: The Force of Freedom. I used to watch the show all the time, and I loved it as a kid, but damn... it did not stand the test of time.

This series has potential and could be pretty awesome if Stallone actually stars in it. If he doesn't, I don't see any reason to get excited for it.

Jared Leto Hints That His Version of The Joker Will Make Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger Proud

The three live-action film incarnations of The Joker are unique, specific takes on the iconic Batman villain, and it appears that Jared Leto is putting his own bizarre spin on the character in Suicide Squad. People seem very divided on him thus far, and while I'm not willing to say he's going to be amazing yet (considering we've only seen a couple of images and a few moments in a single trailer), I'll point to Heath Ledger's casting as The Joker in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight as the only example we ever need to not underestimate an actor hired to play this role.

It looks like Leto is very aware of the character's legacy, and he took to Instagram last night and hinted that his version will make both Ledger and Jack Nicholson proud:

💚

A photo posted by JARED LETO (@jaredleto) on

To be fair, this doesn't look like an image he created himself (that would be wildly self-centered, don't you think?), but by sharing this presumably fan-created image, he endorses the message all the same. Like the rest of you, I'm very curious to see what Leto brings to the role and how he'll fit into the dynamic of the Suicide Squad team. The movie arrives in theaters on August 5th, 2016, so we have just over nine months to wait until we find out. What do you think — can Leto's version live up to those previous two towering performances?

Patton Oswalt Enlisted for MST3K Reboot!

The past couple days have been positive for fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000. The project's Kickstarter campaign has surpassed its goal of $2.5 million and announced that Felicia Day would be added to the cast. Now Entertainment Weekly has more good news as they're reporting geek comedian Patton Oswalt will be joining as the evil henchman "TV Son Of TV's Frank." The series is guaranteed at least a six episode run but has not found a home to put it on the air. Let's hope this won't be a web only deal...maybe Netflix will step up to the plate?

The Kickstarter still has a couple days remaining. If you want to contribute, click here.

Greg Berlanti Denies SUPERGIRL and THE FLASH Crossover Rumors...For Now

0
0

Just a few days ago, a rumor hit the internet stating that, despite the networks' seeming aversion to the idea, a crossover episode between Supergirl and The Flash was indeed in the works, contingent upon Supergirl getting picked up for more episodes in its first season. Well, Supergirl did indeed land a full season order yesterday, so the assumption is that the crossover episode is going to happen, right? Not according to creator Greg Berlanti.

A reporter from CBR was among a group of journalists who spoke with Berlanti yesterday, and someone asked him whether initial discussions have occurred about a possible crossover between the two shows. Berlanti responded:

"No, only because we just received the pick up. Not at this point."

I find it sort of hard to believe that "initial discussions" haven't even taken place about the idea yet, considering all of the internet hype about it. Sure, it might not be a done deal, but they haven't even talked about it at all? That seems unlikely to me. It's worth noting, though, that Berlanti's language doesn't indicate that a crossover won't ever happen, just that the conversations needed to make it happen haven't taken place...yet. So we'll see if a crossover ends up happening anyway, possibly during sweeps week in May to boost ratings. It would certainly get a lot of press, so it seems inevitable that it'll happen at some point.

Gwendoline Christie, the actress who plays Captain Phasma in J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Force Awakens, modeled this high fashion gown designed by Giles Deacon. The gown features images of Captain Phasma, and it was designed as part of a collaboration with Bloomingdale's and Force 4 Fashion. It will be auctioned off for charity after being displayed at the Bloomingdale's flagship store in New York City, beginning December 2nd. The photographs were taken by John Akehurst, and you can read more about the gown at Vanity Fair. I think it’s awesome that they actually got her to model the dress, and you can watch her talk about it in the video below.

Full Trailer For Tom Hiddleston's Hank Williams Biopic I SAW THE LIGHT

0

"Boy, I'm a professional at making a mess of things."

Tom Hiddleston seems to perfectly portray country music legend Hank Williams in this upcoming biopic called I Saw the Light. The movie premiered at TIFF a few months ago and although Hiddleston's performance was praised, the movie itself wasn't met with the greatest reviews. From what I've heard, the film was recut after that screening and the release date was pushed back.

The film was written and directed by Marc Abraham and it also stars Elizabeth OlsenDavid KrumholtzBradley Whitford, and Cherry Jones. Here's a detailed synopsis:

Hank Williams wrote and recorded some of country music’s most enduring songs before his untimely death at age twenty-nine. These songs were fuelled by a blend of turmoil and heartbreak — not surprising considering the Alabama-born balladeer’s private life, which director Marc Abraham brings to the screen with a clear-eyed appreciation of the man’s complexity. Taking stock of the central moments in Williams’ too-short career, which began when he was barely a teenager, I Saw the Light focuses, as it should, on the flaws of an artist who was endearing to his audience and enraging to his wives and lovers.
At the core of this film is Tom Hiddleston’s magnificent performance as Hank. Not only does the English actor capture the singer’s charm and caprice, he also sings all the songs.(Hiddleston appears elsewhere at the Festival in Ben Wheatley’s High-Rise.)
When Hank marries Audrey Mae Sheppard (Elizabeth Olsen) at a gas station in 1944, success is only a few years away, but Audrey proves a challenge as she replaces Hank’s mother as the prime influence in his career. Though ambitious, Audrey is a woman of limited talent, and Williams is caught between listening to friends who tell him to remove her from his act and a wife who will listen to no one.
With fame, Williams grows increasingly erratic in his behaviour as alcoholism and drug abuse begin to take their toll. And yet the story really gets rolling when, at one of his concerts, Hank spies the young Billie Jean (Maddie Hasson), an aspiring singer who will eventually become his widow.

I Saw the Light opens on March 25th, 2016.

HAMILTON Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda Wrote New Cantina Music For THE FORCE AWAKENS

0

I haven't seen the mega-hit Broadway show Hamilton yet, but it has incredible word of mouth and a soundtrack that is driving people crazy (the show tells the story of Alexander Hamilton through hip-hop music). You can listen to the score through Spotify if you haven't heard it, though I'm waiting for the show to come to Los Angeles so I can see it in person. The musical is the brainchild of Lin-Manuel Miranda, and on The Tonight Show last night, J.J. Abrams revealed that he collaborated with Miranda on new music for Star Wars: The Force Awakens — and it's going to appear in their version of the cantina scene from the original film:

Miranda jumped on Twitter to elaborate a little bit further:

It's cool that J.J. also worked a little bit of his own musical skills in there, too. You may know that he created the opening theme music for LOST and you might remember he plays the keyboard from this video that dropped a few years ago:

So there you have it: yet another reason to be excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Guess what? It's officially December, so the movie comes out this month!

Reese Witherspoon Developing Movie About The Creator of Barbie

0
0

Reese Witherspoon's production company has acquired the rights to Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World’s Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her, a book about Barbie creator Ruth Handler written by Robin Gerber. The film is being eyed as a starring vehicle for Witherspoon, who has had a string of mixed efforts recently. This reminds me a bit of another female-centric project: the Jennifer Lawrence biopic Joy, which opens later this month and tells the story of the creator of the Miracle Mop; both sound like they have strong roles for women who start their own empires.

This project shouldn't be confused with the live-action Barbie movie Sony is currently developing. That one, which is being written by Juno scribe Diablo Cody and slated for a 2017 release, is actually going to center on the character of Barbie, not her creator. We'll see which one of these projects ends up making it to theaters first.
