I Bet You Can Guess What This GAME OF THRONES-Themed Weather Report Has in Store

Pekka Pouta knows the words of House Stark from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, and he knows damn well what Sean Bean's Ned Stark looked like on the HBO series Game of Thrones. He also happens to be a Finnish weatherman (I don't know if you know this, but it's pretty freakin' cold in Finland), so he couldn't let this opportunity pass him by.

Yesterday, Universal Pictures released four character posters for The Huntsman: Winter's War featuring Chris Hemsworth as The Huntsman, Charlize Theron as The Evil Queen, Emily Blunt as The Ice Queen, and Jessica Chastain as The Warrior. We now have a brief promo teaser that shows us our first footage from the film with these characters in action. It's still hard to tell if the movie is going to be good or not, but I'm sure it will provide some fun entertainment. We also have a full synopsis for the movie which sheds some light on the story:

Long before the evil Queen Ravenna (Theron) was thought vanquished by Snow White’s blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya (Blunt), suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom. With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen—including Eric (Hemsworth) and warrior Sara (Chastain)—only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.
When Freya learns of her sister’s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power. But once she discovers Ravenna can be resurrected from its golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the darkest force it’s ever seen. Now, their amassing army shall prove undefeatable…unless the banished huntsmen who broke their queen’s cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another.

The movie is set to be released on April 22nd, 2016, and the full trailer should arrive tomorrow. In the meantime, tell us what you think about this footage.

THE KARATE KID's Johnny Lawrence Gives Great Anti-Bullying Talk

Billy Zabka, the actor who played the bully Johnny Lawrence in The Karate Kid, recently gave an anti-bullying talk. He was the keynote speaker at a dojo in Clarysville for their second annual Anti-Bullying Day. Zabka also brought along his friend Rob Garrison, who played "Get him a body bag!" Tommy. When talking about bullying in relation to the film, Zabka said:

“We were bullying, but we were also bullied. There’s a saying: ‘a bully is a victim whose story has not yet been told,’ so there’s not just black and white.”

He went on to use Johnny as an example, saying:

"There’s people who’re dishing out what’s being given to them at home. Not to excuse their behavior, but that’s why the behavior has to stop; because it’s cyclical and it progresses and it reaches us and it may be in us, but it needs to stop … Where’s Johnny’s dad? Where’s Johnny’s mom? Kreese is his dad. Who’s Kreese? He’s a guy who has his own issues. He’s got control of all these kids and teaching them a certain way. You have Mr. Miyagi who’s teaching right and Kreese who’s teaching wrong."

He points out a lot of great stuff about bullying that we see all the time. One of the other things he points out is the bullying scenes in the movie, and how there are “a whole wall of people there. There’s the bully, the targeted, and the witnesses, and they stood by.” I hate seeing those videos of people being bullied and no one does anything about it.

I love that Zabka is using his iconic role in The Karate Kid to go out in the world and share a positive message with people.

I've had my fair share of bullying in my lifetime, and I still get it sometimes, especially online. It's also something I see my kids deal with all the time. I hate bullying, and I just wish people could be a little more kind to one another.

Zabka gives a great talk, and I strongly suggest that you check it out. It's something I'll definitely be sharing with my own kids.

A VERY MURRAY CHRISTMAS Drops a Brand New Trailer as an Early Holiday Gift

$

Here's a new trailer for Netflix's A Very Murray Christmas, which marks Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola's first project together since 2003's Lost in Translation. Unlike the more cheerful vibe of the previous trailer, this one hints at a bit of melancholy running underneath as we get a better look at the actual story of this combination of musical and variety show. The narrative involves Murray hosting a show at NYC's Carlyle hotel, but when a blizzard blows in and shuts things down, he has to make the best of a bad situation.

It seems like Michael Cera might be the Grinch of the special, since he bashes Monuments Men when Murray tries to convince him that the party will be good because George Clooney will be there. But I'm guessing that by the end, Cera comes around and embraces the holiday spirit. We don't have long to wait until we find out how this fun little experiment turned out, because it'll be available for streaming on Netflix beginning on December 4th.

This winter, Bill Murray brings an extra-special dose of holiday cheer to Netflix with the premiere of an all-star musically-driven holiday special, A Very Murray Christmas. Set inside New York City’s iconic Carlyle hotel, A Very Murray Christmas opens with Murray preparing to host a live, international holiday broadcast. After a blizzard shuts down the production, he makes the best of the situation by singing and celebrating with friends, hotel employees and anyone else who drops by.

Laughably Ridiculous Trailer For Alex Proyas' GODS OF EGYPT

$

After those terrible-looking posters were released for Alex Proyas' Gods of Egypt, I kinda hoped that they wouldn't reflect what the actual film would be like. But, unfortunately, they did. The first trailer has been released, and I'm not impressed by what I'm seeing at all. It looks like it will at least be just as bad as the Clash of the Titans remake and its sequel, Wrath of the Titans

The movie has a great cast that includes Gerard Butler as Set, the god of the desert; Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Horus, the god of the sky; Brenton Thwaites as Bek, the thief of legend; Chadwick Boseman as Thoth, the god of Wisdom; Elodie Yung as Hathor, the goddess of love; and Abby Lee as Zaya, the beauty of the Nile. Regardless of the cast, the movie still looks pretty ridiculous.

Magic, monsters, gods and madness reign throughout the palaces and pyramids of the Nile River Valley in this action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt. With the survival of mankind hanging in the balance, an unexpected hero takes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. With only a handful of heroic rebels opposing Set’s savage rule, Bek (Brenton Thwaites), a bold and defiant mortal, enlists the aid of powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in an unlikely alliance against the evil overlord. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen take them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the spectacular final confrontation.

The movie also stars Geoffrey Rush, Rufus Sewell, and Courtney EatonGods of Egypt is set to be released in theaters on February 26th, 2016. After you watch the trailer, let us know what you thought about it!

Corey Feldman Reveals Indiana Jones Adventure Idea For GOONIES 2

corey-feldman-reveals-indiana-jones-adventure-idea-for-goonies-2

It doesn’t seem like talk of a Goonies sequel will ever die. Why? Because Goonies never say die! Everyone involved seems convinced that one day this long-awaited sequel will eventually happen. Richard Donnor, Sean Astin, Steven Spielberg, and Corey Feldman have all discussed what the sequel should be if they ever do it. I’m sure they’ve thrown out lot sort of different ideas over the years, and in a recent interview with Yahoo, Feldman reveals one of the ideas that they talked about, and it’s a worldwide Indiana Jones style adventure. Here’s what Feldman had to say:

“What I would like to see and what the reality of the project might be will no doubt be two different things. Sean actually came up with a concept a while ago. We became friends and have remained friends throughout the years. He’s the best and has such a wonderful, talented family. I remember one night, he and I sat down and actually mapped everything out and pitched it to [Goonies director] Richard Donner. Donner was really impressed with the work we put into it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right direction. What we came up with [had] far too big a budget for what they wanted to take on. We wrote something that was Indiana Jones-type big, with the characters going to different countries on this big adventure, with all these special effects. It was maybe a little too much. But I think that’s what you’ve kind of got to do in a sequel.

As you can see, it definitely expands on the scope of the kids' treasure hunting fascination. As fun and adventurous as their pitch sounds, Donner is right about what the true diehard fans want to see. Feldman goes on to explain Donner’s idea of what the film needs to be:

“While fans do crave a bigger and better adventure, the key to a good sequel is the heart and the magic. Those two elements are necessary. Donner said to me in that meeting, I like where you guys are going, but the one thing you have to remember is we’re not trying to make a big epic movie here. We want to make something true to what the original was, which is more character-driven and full of heart.’ Any Goonies sequel has to be based in reality, and in Astoria. That’s where we met and fell in love with these characters. I think that’s the biggest clue I got to where they were heading with the sequel. That was a year ago, so who knows if that’s still the course of action.”

I’d love to see this Goonies sequel happen one day. Hopefully, one day everyone gets on the same page and it actually happens. To catch up on any previous Goonies sequel news, click here and here.

THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES Surprises Us With Two New Videos

Most of you have probably read or at least heard about the Shannara trilogy, written by Terry Brooks. The first book, The Sword of Shannara, was published back in 1977, and the first episode of the upcoming The Shannara Chronicles TV series is going to air in January of next year.

Produced by MTV, the TV series stars Ivana BaqueroManu BennettAustin Butler, John Rhys-Davies, Emelia Burns, and Poppy Drayton.

We haven’t seen much about the Shannara adaptation ever since the release of the NYCC official trailer in October, but now we have two new videos. Despite the fact they are really short, there are one or two very intriguing scenes which are worth watching. But there are also words worth hearing:

"The events leading us to this moment have been unfurling for centuries. We share a destiny, a greater purpose and the sooner you accept that, the better. This is only the beginning..."

Well, at least the filming didn’t really “unfurl” for centuries, even though some fans of the book might feel like it's taken that long for an adaptation to finally come to life.

7 WEEKS until the series premiere of The Shannara Chronicles. Can you handle it?

Watch: LEGO Versions of STAR WARS Vehicles Gloriously Destroyed in Slow Motion

Wired has put together a video series with a diabolically simple and immensely satisfying concept: they build LEGO versions of Star Wars vehicles and drop them onto a platform so they shatter apart, filming the entire thing in beautiful slow motion so we can truly appreciate the crunching destruction and massive amount of debris that explodes outward. This has been going on for a little while now — they're currently on their fifth entry and I'm just now discovering this — but since they just released a new one today of the Millennium Falcon getting shredded after a crash on the surface of Jakku, I figured it's a good time to share these with you. Check them out below, and let us know which one is your favorite!

TOMB RAIDER Reboot Gets a Director

A reboot of Tomb Raider has been in the works for a long time, and now THR reports that MGM and Warner Bros. have finally found someone to direct it. Roar Uthaug, who directed the Norwegian disaster film The Wave, has been hired to bring the story of Lara Croft to the big screen.

This film won't be a continuation of the two previous Angelina Jolie-starring films, and will instead take a page from the recent video game reboot and go back to explore the origins of Lara Croft. Evan Daugherty, Marti Noxon, and the writing team of Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have worked on earlier versions of the script, but Transformers 5 co-writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet is now in discussions to write the screenplay. It's unclear whether she'll start from scratch or work from those earlier drafts.

It looks like the producers have either chosen to go away from their original idea to have a female director for this project, or those earlier rumors were never true to begin with. Like most American filmgoers, I'm not familiar with Uthaug's work, but I've heard good things about The Wave and I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of style he brings to this adventure story. No word yet on casting (I remember a rumor that Megan Fox was once wanted for the part, but that was back in 2009), but we'll keep you posted as soon as we hear anything.

THE GOLDEN APPLE — Animation Inspired by Balkan Mythology

$

I’ve always been a fan of mythology-based and mythology-oriented stories because they tend to be inspiring and evocative. Despite the fact that a huge part of movies and books of this kind lack this didactic dimension, they often contain something else: sacred narratives that carry distinct moral messages.

The Golden Apple is one such animated fantasy series which amalgamates the mythology and folklore of the Balkans. The narrative deploys a fantasy setting which is highlighted by complex modern-day problems. Interesting combination, isn’t it? The mythological world is complicated by issues such as social exclusion, results of industrialization, climate change, and so on. All of these represent ideas that are skillfully inscribed into the soon-to-be-released series.

War is about to break out between the industrious city of Khan and the spirits of Vulkan mountain. Seeing no other way to help her parents – her mother Iskra, mayor of the town, and her father Vulkan Zmei, leader of the spirits – who have now found themselves to be the leaders of two opposing fractions, Vihra sneaks out of Khan and heads towards Kuber Mountain. She wants to find the golden apple, hoping to save her home and restore the ancient treaty which guaranteed peace between the humans and the spirits.
[…] the apple itself signifies a pain free, seemingly fast external solution to their internal problems, while the conflicts in their journey push them to make hard decisions, choose sides, take responsibility for their actions and face their worst fears.

The characters of The Golden Apple are adventurous, brave and a bit mysterious. The best thing about them? They are relatable which allows the audience to really find something similar between themselves and Vulkan, Vihra, and the rest.

Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara Could Return For THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB

$

Last week, word came out that producers Amy Pascal and Scott Rudin are developing a sequel to David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but neither Fincher nor stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara would be back to reprise their roles. Ex Machina and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. star Alicia Vikander's name was brought up as a potential replacement in the role of Lisbeth Salander, but Mara has since stated that "As far as I know I'm doing it until someone tells me otherwise." So there appears to be some confusion going on behind the scenes.

EW (via The Playlist) adds to that confusion by reporting that Craig and Mara could actually both end up coming back to star in the new movie. It seems like the project is in very early stages right now, and once Pascal and Rudin have a better idea of what the final script looks like and what their budget is going to be (as of now, they're reportedly looking at a $60 million movie, about $40 million less than Fincher's Dragon Tattoo), they'll probably start making legitimate offers to actors.

The sequel is going to be based on The Girl in the Spider's Web, the fourth book in the Millennium series, which was written after original author Stieg Larsson's death. Assuming Fincher won't return because of the smaller budget, would you like to see The Girl in the Spider's Web feature a whole new cast of actors (including possibly Alicia Vikander), or would you prefer it if Craig and Mara came back?

Is Andy Serkis' Supreme Leader Snoke 25 Feet Tall in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS?

$

Until last week, we knew next to nothing about Andy Serkis' Supreme Leader Snoke character from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The actor recently spoke up and offered a few details about the character, namely that he's an "enigmatic character" who's "strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful," and he has a "huge agenda."

Now, in a new interview with Empire Magazine, Serkis opened up a bit more about his mysterious bad guy, revealing that his agenda may not be the only "huge" thing about him:

"It was quite an unusual situation. I worked specifically with Domhnall Gleeson and with Adam Driver. My first day was basically standing on a 25-foot podium doing Lord Snoke without the faintest idea what he looked like... or in fact who he was! I was very high up, totally on my own, away from everybody else, but acting with them.
"[Snoke] is severely damaged. Although he's a powerful leader, he comes across as vulnerable. Very scarred and disfigured.
"We used sort of a ‘Kongolizer’ method of having sound come out of speakers to give a sense of scale and distance for the character. So it was very challenging and scary, in fact probably one of my most scary film experiences I’ve ever had."

Wait a second...does this mean that Supreme Leader Snoke is 25 feet tall? When he mentioned being on that podium, I first thought that meant that his character was actually elevated up above the other characters in whatever scene they were playing, but that last part about the "Kongolizer" and having to use speakers to create a sense of scale for the character makes me think that Snoke himself is actually just that massive.

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK is Reportedly Eyeing These Actors To Star

$
0
0

Guillermo del Toro developed Justice League Dark (aka Dark Universe) for years, and the writer/director recently decided that he wasn't going to direct the supernatural superhero project after all. But that doesn't mean the film is dead: after del Toro dropped out, mega-producer Scott Rudin came aboard and is trying to get it ready to film sometime next year. The story involves "a series of ancient tomes stolen by a madman hellbent on the destruction of humanity. When he learns of this, occult detective John Constantine seeks out a group of heroes that specialize in the mystic and arcane in order to save the world."

Now Latino-Review has some very interesting information about who might star in the film.

Del Toro wanted his long-time collaborator Ron Perlman to play Swamp Thing, and it seems like Warner Bros. agrees with that decision. The studio wanted A-list talent for the role of Constantine, and LR claims the frontrunner is Colin Farrell, who's currently filming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them for the studio, although they mention that Ewan McGregor has also been approached for that same role. (They also say that whoever doesn't end up with the role of Constantine could end up playing Jason Blood, the human version of Etrigan the Demon.) The studio is reportedly looking for "a comedic presence" for the character of Deadman, and a hispanic or black actress to play Zatanna, but Italian bombshell Monica Belluci "looks like the top choice to play magic user Madame Xanadu." If that's true, I hope she has a lot more to do than she did in the latest Bond film Spectre, in which she was criminally wasted in just a couple of scenes.

The report also speculates that they could bring Cara Delevingne's Enchantress from Suicide Squad over to Dark Universe, which sounds like a great fit and a good way to connect the films if that's what DC is aiming to do. No word yet on who will direct, and I should clarify that none of the actors mentioned above have signed on yet, but if this is true, it shows that Warner Bros. is serious about this movie and its place in their new DC movie lineup. What do you think about this film? Who would you like to see direct and star in it?

Enchanting New Teaser Trailer for THE LITTLE PRINCE

$

A new trailer for the animated big screen adaptation of The Little Prince has been released, and I couldn't be more excited to see this movie. I'm a fan of the 1943 book written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and after seeing how well Charlie Brown was handled in The Peanuts Movie, I think there's a good chance that this could be just as great a film. I love the style of this movie, it looks like it stays true to the spirit of the story, and it simply looks magical and charming.

The movie was directed by Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda), and it was created using a mix of CG and stop-motion animation to bring the story to life. That story has a stellar voice cast that includes Riley Osborne as the Prince, Marion Cotillard as The Rose, Rachel McAdams as The Mother, James Franco as The Fox, Jeff Bridges as The Aviator, Benicio del Toro as The Snake, Ricky Gervais as The Conceited Man, Paul Giamatti as The Teacher, Albert Brooks as Businessman, Bud Cort as The King, and Mackenzie Foy as The Girl.

At the heart of it all is The Little Girl (Mackenzie Foy), who’s being prepared by her mother (Rachel McAdams) for the very grown–‐up world in which they live – only to be interrupted by her eccentric, kind–‐hearted neighbor, The Aviator (Jeff Bridges). The Aviator introduces his new friend to an extraordinary world where anything is possible. A world that he himself was initiated into long ago by The Little Prince (newcomer Riley Osborne). It’s here that The Little Girl’s magical and emotional journey into her own imagination – and into the universe of The Little Prince – begins. And it’s where The Little Girl rediscovers her childhood and learns that ultimately, it’s human connections that matter most, and that what’s truly essential can only be seen with the heart.

The Little Prince opens on March 18th, 2016.

Fun New Trailer for the Action Comedy THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY

The Brothers Grimsby is a crazy looking action comedy that stars Mark Strong and Sacha Baron Cohen. We’ve already seen one red-band trailer for it, but now a new theatrical trailer has been released online. This movie looks funny as hell. I just hope it's as good as these trailers make it out to be.

This latest preview starts out very similarly to the first one, but then it offers a good amount of new action-packed footage for you to enjoy with some POV shots of Strong kicking some ass. It then ends on a comedic note with Cohen, who shows us how much of a whacked out football hooligan he is.

This movie looks like it could be completely ridiculous… in a good way! Here’s the synopsis:

Nobby (Sacha Baron Cohen), a sweet but dimwitted English football hooligan, reunites with his long-lost brother Sebastian (Mark Strong), a deadly MI6 agent, to prevent a massive global terror attack and prove that behind every great spy is an embarrassing sibling.
Nobby has everything a man from Grimsby could want, including 11 children and the most gorgeous girlfriend in the northeast of England (Rebel Wilson). There's only one thing missing: his little brother, Sebastian, who Nobby has spent 28 years searching for after they were separated as kids. Nobby sets off to reunite with Sebastian, unaware that not only is his brother MI6's deadliest assassin, but he's just uncovered plans for an imminent global terrorist attack. On the run and wrongfully accused, Sebastian realizes that if he is going to save the world, he will need the help of its biggest idiot.

The Brothers Grimsby was directed by Louis Leterrier (The Transporter, The Incredible Hulk, Clash of the Titans, Now You See Me), and it arrives in theaters on March 4th, 2016.

Frank Miller Will Write DARK KNIGHT IV and Wants a Carrie Kelley Spinoff

It looks like Dark Knight III: The Master Race won’t be the last story in the Frank Miller saga. In a recent interview, he revealed that he will also write Dark Knight IV.

The Master Race is being written by Brian Azzarello, but Miller says that the fourth chapter in the saga will come from his own hand. While talking to Newsarama Miller said:

"I thoroughly applaud what [Brian's] doing. But now that he's doing his, it's now a four-part series, I'm doing the fourth."

Miller went on to explain that he is aware of Azzarello's story, and he told the site that he supported it. However, "he said that after he reads DK3 in full, he intends to create his own fourth chapter.” It’s this fourth chapter that will presumably close out the saga.

Dark Knight III: The Master Race is an eight-part mini-series. The first issue of which will be released on November 25th. I’m curious to see how it turns out. Hopefully, it’s good enough that the fans will even want to see a Dark Knight IV.

During another interview with Comic Book, Miller is asked whether he was surprised by the lasting appeal of Carrie Kelley — Robin from The Dark Knight Returns — and he says that would like to do a mystery-type spinoff series. Here’s his comment:

“Well, to me, she always has had the potential for longevity. I would love to do a series — in fact, I intend to do a series of her and her alone that would be very much like a comic book Nancy Drew series. It would be her detective stories. They would be smaller-sized, they would be designed to that they could be, even though they would be comic books, they would be comic books for children. That’s something I intend to do. Just picture a small figure of Robin on a cover holding a magnifying glass.”

That actually sounds like a great idea! It’s something I know my girls would enjoy reading! I’d like to see it happen.
