Costume designer and prop-maker Shawn Thorsson has created some of the most detailed, realistic, and badass costumes and props in the cosplay world. He jumped into the world of cosplay after seeing the trailer of Jon Favreau’s 2008 film Iron Man. He built Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor and then just kept going from there.

Wired released a short little spotlight video that centers on this man and the work he has done in the cosplay world. It’s a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at seeing what makes this guy tick.

Trailer For The Psychological Sci-Fi Thriller 400 DAYS with Dane Cook and Brandon Routh

We’ve got a great trailer for an upcoming sci-fi film called 400 Days, which comes from SyFy Films. Even though the movie was made by SyFy, it is getting a theatrical release. I guess the movie turned out a lot better than expected if they are going to be releasing it in theaters.

400 Days comes from writer/director Matt Osterman and it stars Brandon Routh, Dane Cook, Caity Lotz, Ben Feldman, Tom Cavanagh, and Grant Bowler. This is the story description:

400 Days is a psychological sci-fi film centering on four astronauts who are sent on a simulated mission to a distant planet to test the psychological effects of deep space travel. Locked away for 400 days, the crew's mental state begins to deteriorate when they lose all communication with the outside world. Forced to exit the ship, they discover that this mission may not have been a simulation after all.

The movie will be released in theaters and VOD starting January 12th, 2016.

J.J. Abrams Admits STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Had “Story Problems"

$

Star Trek Into Darkness ended up disappointing a lot of fans. I heard that it was even voted the worst Star Trek film of all time at a Star Trek convention. That’s some pretty harsh criticism, and director J.J. Abrams recently admitted that the film had some problems. While talking with Wired, Abrams discussed how he didn’t want to approach Star Wars: The Force Awakens without knowing their story, and that’s when Star Trek came up:

"I didn’t want to enter into making a movie where we didn’t really own our story. I feel like I’ve done that a couple of times in my career. That’s not to say I’m not proud of my work, but the fact is I remember starting to shoot Super 8 and Star Trek Into Darkness and feeling like I hadn’t really solved some fundamental story problems."

At least he understands where he went wrong in those films, and people learn from their mistakes. He goes on to explain the benefits of keeping things secret with the movies he makes:

"There’s a really positive side to keeping quiet. You can protect the audience from spoilers or certain moments that, in a way, obviate the movie experience. But on the other hand, you risk being seen as coy or as a withholding shithead. That’s never my intent."

I think he and Lucasfilm have been handling the Star Wars: Force Awakens marketing perfectly. They aren’t giving us too much, but they also aren’t giving us too little. They’ve found a sweet spot that seems to be making fans happy.

foam-battle-ready-light-up-lightsabers-are-coming

As many of you already know, International Fight With a Lightsaber Day was launched last month, and I sure do wish that these foam light-up lightsaber existed at the time! A company in Canada called Calimacil has created high-quality durable foam LARP weapons that they called "LEDsabers." These are things that you could actually engage someone in full-on battle with. The company started a Kickstarter page to fund the project that you can check out where you can find more details on what they are looking to do:

Simulated sword fighting is the core of our soul at Calimacil. In the last decade, we have created the most advanced foam gear in the world for live action role play (LARP).
From that experience, we decided to push the limits of design by creating the most iconic sword of all: the lightsaber.
The challenge was to build a lightsaber made of foam for safe play. To integrate light, we had to enhance the foam formula we normally use to build our products. Moreover, we had to develop a new technology into the handle to enable both light and sound. Thus our journey began, and we successfully achieved the creation of a fully immersive foam LEDsaber!

You can watch a demo of the saber in action below. The models range in price from $172 to about $383 for a single blade, with shipping slated to start on May of 2016.

They don’t have the license to actually sell this yet, but they are working on it.

2 New Clips For THE GOOD DINOSAUR - "Wanna Know How I Got These Scars?"

I've truly been impressed with what I've seen from Pixar's latest animated film, The Good Dinosaur. Not only does it looks like it will tell an adventurous and heartwarming story, but the animation looks spectacular, especially with the background settings, as they went with a photo-realistic look.

While we wait for the movie to be released, we have a couple new clips to share with you that were provided by Disney. Both of them show the young dinosaur Arlo learning a few things from the T-Rexs.

The Good Dinosaur asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.

The Good Dinosaur hits theaters on November 25th.

Haunting Post-Apocalyptic Short Film - THE LAST MAN

The Last Man is a dark post-apocalyptic thriller written and directed by Gavin Rothery. The story revolves around a Deep Reserve soldier who wakes up from hibernation to find that the world he knew has been ruined by war. It’s a haunting and tense story that is told through beautifully gritty visuals.

Rothery was part of the production team that worked on Duncan Jones Moon, so you’ll see the influence from his work in that in some of the imagery in this short. The production value is solid, and the attention to detail really helps makes the film pop.

I think you’ll like what you see, so make sure to take the time and check it out when you get a chance! After you watch it, let us know what you think!

Every Easter Egg and Reference in THE FORCE AWAKENS Japanese Trialer

Freelance editor and reviewer Mr. Sunday Movies is back with another video that points out all of the hidden Easter eggs and references that were in the Japanese trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This is my favorite trailer to be released so far. I think it's worth checking out to make sure you didn't miss anything in all the times that you've watched in already. You may have missed a couple of things. There was one thing he pointed out in the video that I didn’t notice before, and that is that the new TIE Fighters can shoot backwards.

I also included a second video from GamesRadar that you might want to check out as well.

Disney is Adapting THE EXPLORERS CLUB Into a Movie

Disney is teaming up with producer Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Captain Phillips, Moneyball) to bring us a big screen adaptation of a book series called The Explorers Club. That’s the first book in a trilogy written by Adrienne Kress. The book won’t even be released until the Fall of 2016, but Disney obviously thinks it will make a great film franchise.

The story revolves around two ordinary kids who discover a secret clubhouse for explorers. These kids set out on an adventure to reunite and perhaps rescue a group of famous adventure-seekers who call themselves the Filipendulous Five.

This sounds like it could be a fun kid adventure film, kind of like The Goonies. Here’s an official description from the book:

The story follows a precocious boy whose life is sent spiraling into adventure after he discovers a pig in a teeny hat and returns it to its home at the mysterious Explorers Club.
Set in a similar world to Kress's other Children's Novels (ALEX AND THE IRONIC GENTLAMEN and TIMOTHY AND THE DRAGON'S GATE), two kids, Sebastian and Evie, set out to reunite the formerly famous explorer team the Filipendulous Five, who disbanded many years ago and no one knows why, in order to rescue their leader (who also happens to be Evie’s grandfather and only remaining living relative).

new-poster-for-the-flash-and-arrow-crossover-and-extended-tv-spots

Earlier this week, we got our first photo from the upcoming 2-episode crossover event with Arrow and The Flash. Today we have a new poster for you to check out featuring our two heroes. The crossover is called “Legends of Yesterday,” and it airs in three weeks. Below you'll find the synopsis and two extended spots for the upcoming episodes of each of the series:

Last year, the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark matter storm that struck forensic scientist Barry Allen — bestowing him with super-speed and making him the fastest man alive. But Barry wasn’t the only person who was given extraordinary abilities that night. The dark matter also created meta-humans — many of whom have wreaked havoc on the city. With the help of the S.T.A.R Labs team, Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon and Dr. Harrison Wells, Barry protects the people of Central City from these powerful new threats as The Flash. Following the defeat of Allen's arch-nemesis Eobard Thawne (aka Reverse Flash), Team Flash must quickly turn their attention to the singularity swirling high above Central City, consuming everything in its path. Armed with the heart of a hero and the ability to move at super speeds, Barry charged into the eye of the singularity, but can he actually save his city from impending doom?
After defeating his most formidable foe to date and riding off into the sunset with longtime flame Felicity Smoak, Oliver Queen (a.k.a. The Arrow) left Starling City with the hopes of beginning a new life. But will Oliver ever truly be able to leave behind his past as the Arrow, and, if so, what becomes of the team he has worked so hard to assemble? Will Diggle, Thea, and Laurel be left to continue Oliver’s crusade without him? And with Malcolm Merlyn having ascended to the top of the League of Assassins as the new Ra's al Ghul, is anyone really safe?

The Flash has been pretty amazing, especially that last episode with Zoom! As for Arrow, I’m kind of losing interest and have some catching up to do.

Exhilarating Fourth TV Spot for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

As excited as I am every single time they decide to release something new related to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I keep thinking to myself that if they don’t stop doing this anytime soon, they will release the whole movie before December 18th.

The exhilarating wave of TV spots, posters, images, details from J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm, and Disney is somehow threatening the whole mystery. But then, I might be totally wrong. Enjoy the new spot with some “freshly baked” and unseen scenes.

THE WITCH Has a New Poster and Creepy Website

The Witch is one of the best films that I've seen this year. I had the opportunity to see it at Sundance earlier this year, and you'll get your chance when it's released next year. You can read my review for it here.

A24 released a new poster for the film along with a new website that is kind of unnerving. The horror thriller was directed by first-time director Robert Eggers, and he won the Best Director award for his work on the film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. On top of the incredible story, acting, and cinematography, the movie has also been praised for its period authenticity.

Set in New England circa 1630, The Witch follows a farmer who get cast out of his colonial plantation and is forced to move his family to a remote plot of land on the edge of an ominous forest rumored to be controlled by witches. Almost immediately, strange and unsettling things begin to happen-the animals turn violent, the crops fail, and one of the children disappears, only to return seemingly possessed by an evil spirit. As suspicion and paranoia mount, everyone begins to point the finger at teenage daughter Thomasin. They accuse her of witchcraft, which she adamantly denies…but as circumstances become more and more treacherous, each family member’s faith, loyalty, and love will be tested in shocking and unforgettable ways.

The movie stars Anya Taylor Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger and Lucas Dawson. This is a movie not to be missed, and it comes out on February 26th, 2016. I also included the trailer for you below to watch.

STAR WARS-Inspired Chewbacca Can Cooler

Drink your soda like a furry Wookiee champion with this Star Wars Chewbacca Can Cooler. This is definitely the weirdest can cooler I’ve ever seen and I’d hate to get the furry stuff in my mouth while drinking my soda, but you know what? I still have to get myself one for fun!

You think damp Wookiee fur smells like wet dog fur? Maybe it does, but nobody mentioned it on Hoth because when you compare it to the smell of the inside of a Taun Taun, it's negligible.
Carry your drink around in Chewie’s can cooler. Or, rather, a little can cooler that looks like Chewie. Nobody will dare try to take your drink, because they know they’ll be faced with a mighty roar if they do.

It’ll cost you $10.39, and you can purchase one at ThinkGeek.

First Photo from the Set of WONDER WOMAN Shows Chris Pine as Steve Trevor

An interesting photo from the set of Wonder Woman has found its way online, and it features Chris Pine as Steve Trevor and new cast member Saïd Taghmaoui, who posted a couple of photos on his Instagram page.

What’s interesting about this first look is that the two actors are sporting some 1930/1940s area clothing. This confirms the period setting for the film that has previously been rumored.

Patty Jenkins is currently directing the film from a script by Jason Fuchs. Wonder Woman also stars Gal Gadot, and it was most recently reported that Nicole Kidman could be involved as well. The movie is scheduled for release on June 23rd, 2017.

The Stormtooper armor design has always been an iconic staple of the Star Wars universe. Now New York City designer Blank William has put a weird and wacky spin on that design by reimagining the helmet designs for animals.

His collection is called “The New Order,” and the animals they represent are for the elephant, hippo, and rhino. Let us know what you think below.

PROMETHEUS Sequel ALIEN: PARADISE LOST Is Now Called ALIEN: COVENANT

$
0
0

Not long ago Ridley Scott announced that Prometheus 2 would be called Alien: Paradise Lost. Well, it seems that title didn’t sit well with the director, so he has changed it again! Alien: Paradise Lost is now called Alien: Covenant.

Scott did a Q&A session at the AFI Film Festival recently, and while talking about how he got involved with The Martian, he explained:

"I was going to be doing what will be called Alien: Covenant, which starts shooting next February, and we were struggling then with the screenplay there and then there was a phone call, somebody saying, ‘Listen, we’ve got this thing which is completely written called [The] Martian,' and I said, 'Huh.’ And I sped read it in an hour and by mid-afternoon, I talked to Fox and said, ‘I need to talk to Drew [Goddard]…"

There’s a theme with all these titles that Scott has used for the title of this sequel. It was originally called Prometheus 2, and the name Prometheus is in reference to the story of how a man stole fire from the gods for mankind. He was eternally punished for doing that. Alien: Paradise Lost was the second title for the sequel, and it was inspired by the title of John Milton’s poem that focuses on original sin and the fall of man. Now we have Alien: Covenant and in terms of this film franchise, I imagine covenant means an agreement between man and god.

Of course, if humanity breaks that agreement, there will be consequences. Scott has previously talked about this and how humanity did break that covenant when we allowed Jesus, who was one of the Engineers, to die. Scott explained at the time:

"If you look at it as an 'our children are misbehaving down there' scenario, there are moments where it looks like we've gone out of control, running around with armor and skirts, which of course would be the Roman Empire. And they were given a long run. A thousand years before their disintegration actually started to happen. And you can say, 'Let's send down one more of our emissaries to see if he can stop it.' Guess what? They crucified him."

So now those Engineers want to wipe the people off the face of the earth. Those plans were obviously interrupted when humans have ventured into space where they found the home of the Engineers and discovered their plans to wipe us out. I guess they didn’t see that coming.

From my understanding, Alien: Covenant will continue the story of The Deacon, the Xenomorph-like creature formed following the Trilobite's impregnation of the Last Engineer and how it will be used as humanity's ultimate punishment. The movie will be released on May 30th, 2017.
